this post is not like my usual on this blog, but I feel it is important to share. As an American living in the U.S, I have high concern and fear of the next four years for a number of reasons. One of those concerns is the banning of books. My middle & high school years took place between 2011-2017, and A LOT of books I had to read back then are no longer teachable/available in public school libraries, bookstores, etc. This should not be happening as the banning of books if a form of censorship. Those who are at the forefront of banning these books do it under the guise of protecting the younger generation, but let's be real, they do it because they do not like the material/themes in the books.

Reading is political, the consumption and critical analyzation of literature is political. Censoring books is a form of control. Read banned books!!

Below the cut I've listed banned books everyone should read. Several of these have been banned for decades, and some over the last few years. You'll probably recognize a lot of them and might even be shocked at some. I'll also list books/series that focus on dystopian/totalitarian governments that you should read as how the governments in these books reflect issues present today or were inspired by real events, as well as book recs involving themes of sexuality, race, gender, etc.

And then I have some ME characters coming Stars are Other Suns and they all are OC's so the names will likely mean nothing to everyone except for the first one for those that have read the story: Admiral Lorelai Wilde, Commander Eneki Wooddell, Admiral Ade Detmer, Admiral Raleigh Frost, Captain Jett Cruz.

I have way more names for both stories for side characters of various degrees (who may become main characters in the future, who the hell knows what will happen??) because I can't not flesh out entire crew rosters for the various ships, even if they are mentioned only in passing, because what if one day that ship and her crew come back to the story?? I have my own internal wiki and family trees for my stories. I am maybe a little insane.

From The Great Rewrite, Volume #3: Daybreak

“Turian brandy?” Anderson offers once they’re in his cabin. Nihlus sits down on the sofa, legs jutting out at odd angles. Furniture is never as universal as it should be. “Please.” They sit and drink in silence for a few minutes. It gives Anderson time to think, maybe time he doesn’t need to think, because his thoughts are drawn to twenty years ago when he was the top of the shortlist and he was assigned a turian Spectre to oversee his abilities, who’d go with him on missions. Determine if he could make the cut. Obviously, he hadn’t. Now Shepard is top of the shortlist and damned if Anderson doesn’t want to protect her in ways he was never protected. Of course, no one knew what to expect, then. They had ideas, but nothing concrete. So far, Nihlus is nothing like Saren was. Of course, pinning it all on Saren isn’t exactly fair. Anderson is the one who abandoned the mission, because Kahlee was involved. And he liked her. Maybe loved her, already. He’s had a long time to think about everything he did that mission, and while he’s not bitter anymore like he used to be, and while he still feels Saren has it out for humanity, bottom line is when push came to shove, Anderson went for the girl. Shepard won’t. He only knows this because she didn’t on Elysium. She didn’t even have an assigned mission at the time. No orders. Just a marine on shore leave with her girl and the slavers chose that day to hit Elysium and ran into the implacable wall that was Shepard — and failed. Not one batarian made it past whatever line she drew, and she was always redrawing that line, claiming more territory. Anderson had been so fucking impressed when she calmly presented the situation, still in her civvies, covered in blood, smoke and dirt, ruined sniper strapped to her back and a borrowed pistol flashing a low ammo block warning. She wasn’t the highest ranking marine on the ground. Hell, she wasn’t even assigned to Elysium, though everyone wanted her to be after that. But everyone on the ground who’d survived that day answered to her. And after it was all done, then — and only then — did she go looking for her girl. Anderson was there for that, too.

HIGH SCHOOL REUNION

twelve years into the future a group of former classmates come back together to reconnect and reminisce about their glory days. as tensions rise and secrets unravel, the reunion transforms from a night of nostalgia into a psychological horror show.

PAST: when popular boy noah invites outcast nina to their senior prom, she believes it is sincere and feels a glimmer of hope. however, it turns out to be a cruel prank orchestrated by jocelyn and sabrina, the mean girls who thrived on humiliating others. on prom night, nina is called on stage after being selected as prom queen, only for the girls to interrupt her moment. they expose the truth about her night with jake and play a humiliating video showcasing some of nina's most embarrassing moments. this moment of public shaming shatters her confidence, and all the classmates who had ever bullied her play a part in her humiliation.

THE CHARACTERS

NINA DELGADO: nina grew up in a small town, often feeling like the odd one out. from a young age, she showed a passion for art, using creativity as her escape from a world that often felt unwelcoming. as she entered high school, her unique interests and eccentric demeanor made her an easy target for bullying. still haunted years later by the memories of her humiliation, nina begins to channel her pain into a desire for revenge.

JOCELYN MERRICK: jocelyn thrived in high school as the queen bee, wielding her popularity with sharp wit and ruthless tactics. she became a successful marketing executive, but her cutthroat approach alienated her colleagues. as she climbed the corporate ladder, jocelyn realized her bullying ways left her isolated. nina delgado and kris dawson were the main targets of jocelyn's bullying. SABRINA CHASE: sabrina, often in jocelyn's shadow, struggled with her identity throughout high school. she eventually pursued a degree in psychology, motivated by a desire to understand how the mind works. now a school guidance counselor, sabrina works to help young people build self-esteem and navigate their emotions while working through her guilt of bullying nina delgado in the past.

NOAH ASHFORD: noah's charisma and talent made him a standout player in high school, and he received several scholarship offers to play at the collegiate level. however, a devastating injury during his sophomore year of college shattered his professional career. after graduating, he shifted his focus to sports management, using his connections to carve out a successful career in the industry. noah was pressured into inviting nina delgado to prom.

KRISTINA "KRIS" DAWSON: kris grew up in a turbulent household, finding solace in music as an escape. after high school, she attended college and became a successful composer for the tv and film industry. despite her accomplishments, kris feels a lingering sense of alienation and seeks validation from her former classmates. once nina delgado's best friend, she chose to be a bystander during the prom incident, which continues to weigh on her conscience twelve years later.

MARCO REYES: marco grew up as the class clown, using humor to cope with feelings of neglect at home. in high school, he thrived on making others laugh, believing it would earn him acceptance. however, as an adult, he struggled to find his footing and pursued a career in stand-up comedy, facing repeated failures and rejection. he recorded the entire incident that happened to nina delgado at prom.

FINN NOVAK: finn grew up as the quiet nerd, often overlooked by his classmates despite his creative talents. passionate about filmmaking, he became a successful director, using his skills to tell compelling stories. driven by a mix of jealousy and insecurity, jocelyn convinced finn to make the humiliating video that exposed his crush nina delgado's most embarrassing moments. he didn’t fully grasp the consequences at the time, but he now grapples with guilt and regret for contributing to her humiliation.

as for your question... i actually don't know, haha. that sounds like something that would have been revealed in one of our Tourist Talks, but i'm not sure where. joey (RR's wonderful writing assistant, who's contributed a lot to the greetings) made a thread on twitter compiling all of the publicly posted Tourist Talks, and i did find this one from Finn where he confirms that his hat and boots were a gift from his dad? that sounds like something he'd wear every day.

he does at least take it off briefly sometimes, though, as we see him do that in Episode 2 :)

I had a silly thought about Brad from Reality Resort. I might be the only one that finds it funny, but I thought I would share.

Episode 2 revealed Brad is a psychology major, which gave me this idea he might do some little experiments on the other houseguests to figure out their reactions to certain things.

For example, he might take Marcus's wallet (will give it back when the experiment is over) and see how he reacts to being unable to find it, ranging from grumbling complaints to total meltdown. As a point of comparison, he takes Finn's too (also will give it back) to see if he reacts differently than Marcus, or the same.

Anyway, that's my silly thought. I hope you like it.

This is a really great headcanon! In the game, I could see that he might be too conscious of making enemies of other contestants to attempt stealing their stuff. (Even if he plans on giving it back, that couldn’t stop someone from getting mad at him in the middle of the act.)

However, I could totally see him pulling this off at his frat. Or, if/when Brad is eliminated, he could try it out at whatever Loser’s Motel/Ponderosa may exist at Reality Resort (I genuinely have no idea if it does). Thank you for sharing your silly thought :D I do like it!
