Otherworldly, Part 2.
Sunset over still water and coquina off the Florida coast. This is a composite, part of my ongoing project of surreal landscapes that I plan to eventually print and show here in Europe. Interestingly, not too much processing is done to either shot, just some sharpening and levels - which shows just how crazy the Florida scenes can be. Shot two different days during the same stormy week, from the exact same location, making the blending much easier.
Exposure for the sky and horizon shot with a split NDgrad filter, properly exposed (maybe a little dark). Foreground is a 30 second exposure to give the misty water effect. The only part I’m still not too sure about is the horizon, which I may continue to adjust before print, but for now, this is a natural as I could achieve - especially considering it is pulled straight from the exposure for the sky. This was also shot looking north, thus giving a good view of the sunset despite the fact it being shot oceanside.

In such cases, the decision to wait for inspiration or to actively brainstorm…

Pixel Weather, "October Showers Over Muskegon Beach"
I wanted that unique amber light of early October. This concept has been hanging around my studio since March. Originally comped up in Photoshop for a physical painting, the painting did not gel and never was finished. Then, the first attempt at a digital artwork stalled. Finally, I came back to it this week. It has morphed as I worked to define areas creating as much a fantasy work as a representation of the actual place.
