User Research/ Expert evaluation?
1. Do you have a need for such a workshop? a)Yes because of the outside influence, helpful tools and a local community for the everyday inspiration. b)Yes because sharing is caring. It is a good way to share your creative process with others without censoring yourself at your actual workplace.
2. What are your expectations from such a workshop? a)A center where it is a work space but also has a place to get educated about other forms of art and going back to resources and how to get better in my skills. b)I would expect this place to scream DESIGN by its decoration, set up, the atmosphere and people.
3. Would it completely replace your home office? a)No, because i believe in self discipline and working in your own place and comfort zone without outside influence. Need my own habitat. b) No, because even though this could be inspiring, this is not realistic to think that i would always leave the comfort of my house. 4. Would you subscribe to a premium membership to have an access to all the services or a basic membership for your basic needs? a)It should be a flat hierarchy because the idea is similar to co/op where the community pays just enough for everyone to have the same resources and overall experience. b) Don't like the idea for subscribing to different plans. Your needs might change depending on your project. The premium membership places already exist, don't know how it is different from them. Also, if premium means a lot more expensive, this goes completely against the principles of sharing. This is what is missing.
5. If you had to recommend this workshop to a friend, how would you describe it? a)Diverse, educational, eclectic, a safe creative working environment. b)All us creatives have been saying for too long that we would get the sh* done and thanks to this place we have all the tools to make it happen.

Brainstorming - everything is possible.
(come up with all crazy ideas) (The crazier the better.) Afterwards sorting out what can be and what cannot. To sketch out 10 different ways to show the structure of the app/website, the functionality and the visual (would be a plus). in 2 pairs of people. How to solve the problem of concentration - where the things are happening (meeting and socialise with people etc) Design Challenges. - How bringing people together? ‘’Define Work space’’ written in the P.vision - talk about it in the brainstorming how do you define it, how people find the correspondent spot. (again,go crazy) How to convert the daily Work space into a ‘’Workshop’’ space. (come up w an example) Different rooms depending on the Artistic Field. - How to avoid stuff to get stolen - supplies - How to keep the equipment and tools up to date and provide new ones when the old ones are overused. - what is the intention of the puppy system? - how to secure the supplies and tools? - what happens if a member stops coming to the studio intensively? - we need a system to detect the use of supplies and services and define the reasonable rates - can someone attend a course without being a member? - how to make a space for different classes - how to make everybody to keep going and meeting there at the same time - people who do not want to socialise can come there and sit somewhere more quiet(?) - bringing big things in and out / trucks we create the ideas in a team of two. everything is done in pencil and paper: the drawing and sketches the brainstorming is also in pencil and paper. Use A4 and a lot of paper. use new sheet of paper for every idea(?) find the good and bad ideas, recycle reuse rihanna blog is the overview in photos (what?) A4 paper format

Student1:
1.) usually i meet other design students in uni, or through the friends i made in uni
2.) It helps me a lot because they discuss with me and help me when I don’t know any further.. maybe they have other skills in other areas and we try to teach each other.. its really quite helpful ans inspiring too, sometimes.. they also tell me, when they dislike something and help me get a fresh view on my work. We help each other out.
3.) it depends on the project.. but usually the projects are about one week or two .long and i try to work on them every day a little bit.. which in not always possible and then i work two or three days very intensely on them. 1.) 2.) yes defiantly, i like working with other creative minds a lot. it gets you in the right working spirit and flow.. even though if you are not working on the same thing. 3.) Ok, i have to admit, sometimes the others also distract me and we start talking about other stuff too, but we always return to the work.. 4.) we usually meet up in working cafe’s like westberlin or betahouse.. we don’t wanna spend more time in uni than we do anyways, thats why i don’t work there but I also dont wanna sit alone in my tiny room and work there, that doesn’t help my concentration neither. Of course the noise and the talking of the other people is distracting sometimes, but also inspirational sometimes.
5.) usually i only speak with the group i went there with, and not to many others, because I’m a little bit shy.. but my friend frequently asks other people in the cafe’s for their opinion and tips and suggestions.. I think it doesn’t always help her, but sometimes she gets goos ideas through that, and it probably will help her for later on, because she gets used to talking to strangers about her work. Probably good for a future designer.
6.) once i am in a good flow, i can work for like 5 hours straight.. but for sure i take a couple coffe and smoking breaks.. it is always good to get your eyes off your project, even just for 5 minutes or so.. but it alway also depends on how much fun i have with a project or how important it actually is..
7.) I usually order all of my supplies online.. but even there they are quite expensive so, i cant always get just what i want, or i have to wait or ask my parents for money.. yeah thats a bit difficult.
Student 2 / 3:
1.) we usually meet other design students in Uni and communicate through fb & whatsapp.
2.) inspirations, different point of view, new ideas and techniques, ask others for materials
3.) it depents on the task and on the time and if it is a personal project of if you have a deadline.. for school: 2-3 hours a day.. personal: 4-5 hours a week.. yeah about that.
4.) yes, me and my friends meet up in cafes or in one of our houses to work on shared projects. I actually can’t concentrate so well in coworking situation or it depends on the people, the space and the project.. but If I am at home I won’t start working at all, its about finding and giving each other motivation.
5.) no we usually don’t speak to other people much and rather stay in our group.
6.) once I’m in a good concentration flow, i just work through.. it’s hard for me to get in that mode though, thats why i also can’t afford to take many breaks usually.. when I can’t concentrate anymore, I stand up and walk around and try to focus on something else.
7.) we don’t buy too many supplies.. I usually work more on the computer, but If i do,I usually go to stores like modulor and boesner, but I try not to buy too much stuff, because it is expensive and usually i don’t even need all of it (usually only for one project.. and the rest just keeps laying around and keeping space in my apartment
Older guy in Coworking space:
1.) / 2.) I’m a freelancer and I usually prefer working alone at home in peace but there are painters right now, so I can’t work there at all. I also don’t really like meeting up and connecting with other designers. I’m not much of a fan of that scene and it doesn’t really help me.. i rather have the feeling it slows me down and distracts me.. If you meet up with to many other people, they try to influence you too much and that kills individuality. I also don’t try to follow trends or fashions so much. I like to be my own, true inspiration.
3.) I usually work for about a week for like 6 - 10h a day on one project and as soon as that one in finished, i start working on the next one.
4.) / 5.) As i said, i don’t really like this coworking spaces. It is distracting and loud, short not the right working atmosphere for me, for other people that might me helpful.. but i need my quite and a surrounding I`m used to, to be effective.
6.) once I’m into my stuff and in a good flow, I don’t really take breaks, i work through.. my concentration span is not the best, but once I get it, i can work for hours without a break.. i also don’t smoke, maybe that is a helping factor..
7.) I don’t need any supplies, my only tool is the computer.

assignment 5–6
project assignment to bring in for lesson 6
For this assignment the teams of each design project form small groups (group recipes app; group art centre; group flea markets). Important: the three product makers act for now as product maker on their project (Helga joins the recipes app group, Hannah the art centre group, Daria the flea markets group, performing the product maker role).
▪ each group sets up an online conversation (e.g. on facebook) from tuesday to sunday to work on this assignment;
▪ each group sets up an online list that all the group members can edit (an online to-do list could work, or something like evernote);
▪ the goal of the assignment is to generate a lot of functionality ideas; you must have the feeling it is too much functionality; you should get a little bit scared by it;
▪ the role of the product maker in each group is to encourage the others to find ever more functionality ideas, by—
⁃ pointing out existing competitors (other recipe apps and community websites; other creative training centres; other flea markets around the world) and say ‘hey look what they got!’
⁃ pointing out similar systems (other info and experience sharing communities; art schools and skill sharing collectives; other market systems—bazars?) and again: ‘hey look what they got!’
⁃ pointing out new topics to generate ideas around—‘what about buying obscure ingredients?’ ‘don’t these art people needs to eat and drink?’ ‘music playing at the market?’
▪ everyone in the group contributes functionality ideas and adds them to the online list; everyone helps to keep the list orderly and organised in logical sections;
▪ no one can say ‘no’ to functionality others put on the list (not even the product maker); in next week’s class the excesses will be weeded out.
Remember: functionality is the what (e.g. music plays at market), not the how (e.g. stereo equipment and loudspeakers, or a mobile playlist; who is going to choose the music?).
Do not think about or discuss the ‘how’ for a single minute. It is a waste of your time, right now. If someone wants to start a ‘how’ discussion, politely steer them back to making more ‘what’ ideas.
what to bring to class
1. a printed version of the list as it stands on monday morning 9:00 (no changes to list after that deadline); the product maker ensures that one person in the group (who can print for sure) is tasked with this;
⁃ print the functionality list on normal paper, to be displayed to the group; A4 is good enough; text must be 18pt (or larger). This is not a communication design assignment; do not spend more than 2 minutes on the design of your output.
2. one computer that can edit the online list ‘live’ during the weeding out session in class; at the end of that session, your list is final.

Product Vision
The art studio centre is an inspiring building at an historical location, where all art & design students of Berlin meet and connect. It’s a homely, welcoming place, where one can easily spent the entire day.
Users rent a defined space in one of the large, shared lounges to focus on their art/design, with no distractions. A limited number of private cloisters is also available.
Supplies and equipment—at a reasonable rate of use— are included in the rent. Extra supplies can be bought at discount prices. In the evening there are courses in (computer) art & design skills.
The art studio centre is for intensive use. A good mix of students with artists and designers from older & younger generations is maintained. Everyone keeps going there —for the people.
