Forbidden Dream
This is all of my Adventure Time AU in chronological story order. Thanks to my friend for proof-read.
Act I: Prismo and Betty
This takes some time after the events of F&C. Prismo and Scrabby inhabit the TR(TimeRoom) and Golbetty has gotten restless with her time in space. She decides to reach out to other multiversal beings, but no one wants to associate with Golb. She finally finds someone that puts up with her ..that being the Wishmaster.
Prismo is scared of Golbetty at first, especially Scrabby since he has a little bit of history with her. He scurries off or hides behind Prismo when she is in the TR. To Scrabbys surprise, Pris and Betty hit it off and become good friends. They find they have something in common, which is their “human” past. Theyre both mortals turned to immortals.
The duo start off by drinking and making fanfics together, but then Betty proposes the idea of making these fics “real”. Prismo is hesitant at first but lately he doesn’t mind breaking the rules.
At first they visit universes that Prismo considers safe. They treat them like vacations, and a lot of these worlds do not have the typical AT characters. Theyre peaceful docile places. Prismo gets daring, telling Betty that he wants to feel alive again. The two of them agree to visit a dangerous world, the Vampire Kingdom.
Notes:
- Betty chose her physical form to look like magic Betty because she felt it would be strange to appear as she normally did in the past.
- Prismos physical form is what he looked like as a younger human. He thought it would be more fitting for the “adventure”. Also.. He hates how clothing feels on him, so the see-through garments suffice.
- Scrabby is not happy about their friendship. He feels that Prismo has gotten even lazier, foregoing his Wishmaster responsibilities and even worse, ignoring him. The scarab thought he found someone that was happy to spend time with him for the first time, But feels like he has gone back to being the “forgotten” one.
EP II: Vampire Kingdom
Once Pris and Betty teleport here, theyre immediately caught off guard by a group of vampires that whisk Prismo away and the two are separated. Betty gets surprised by a starved vampire!Simon, who at first doesnt recognize her until he gets a good look at her face.
He refuses to believe its actually Betty and rather a wizard attempting to play tricks on him. Marcy calls his name and he flys away, leaving Betty stunned.
The vampire world is an AU where Vampires take over, but Simon never died and was able to stay with Marcy. Marcy isnt evil here. Simons crown was stolen before he could make a complete transformation into IceKing, and his sanity was kept in part to Marcy turning him to save him from a group of hungry vampires. One curse was replaced with another.
Marcy was turned at a younger age by the VK, but Simon saved her by scratching at the VKs eye (his face scar). Even though the King is furious at Simon for this, he thinks it is more amusing to keep Simon alive and suffering from vampirism. Vampires are starved in this world just like “The Star” episode, but Simon proposes the idea to wrangle human (and animal) survivors and keep them on a reserve to supply the Vampires with a food source. He inevitably becomes the person in charge of the Blood farms. Keep in mind, Simon did this to save humans, otherwise they would have been hunted to extinction.
Unlike the safe worlds PrisBetty visited, this world has most of the original cast in them. Finn is a survivor of the Blood Farms, swearing to kill Simon who he believes imprisoned him in there (which.. is true). The farm is surrounded by booby traps all around the perimeter, no one can get in or out without some level of flying.
Finn always managed to get close to escaping But eventually gets caught in one of the traps. The last attempt caused him to cut his own arm off to be freed and helped by Huntress Wizard. She is one of the few wizards to help the freedom fighters, a band of humans and candy people led by Commander PB. Wizards are hated by Vampires since theyre the few beings that can overpower them. They try to stay out of each others business But huntress is an exception as she feels that the vampires are disrupting the balance of nature.
The Candy Kingdom is fortress walled with wooden spikes and garlic (I thought it would be silly Lol). PBs armor consists of wooden stakes and reminiscent of Golb who she is a follower of. She has access to the Enchiridion and sees Golb as a being that she should harness the power of if the vampires happen to overwhelm her people someday.
The end of the story would involve PrisBetty helping Simon overthrow the VK after Marcy discovers the vampires ability to “drink red” instead of blood. They team up with the help of PB and Huntress. Simon never truly reconciles with Betty as his defense mechanism is to push any feelings of his past away. But he does have a newfound respect for her and tells her to visit him again. Simon will assume the role of Vampire King and free the humans afterward.
Notes:
- Simon is the only vampire dressing in traditionally “Dracula” clothes. Because hes a nerd and thinks its fitting.
- Marcy is raised by Simon here instead of VK, so she is a lot kinder and sympathetic to the humans and candy kingdom (even if she doesnt show it for a while).
EP III: Winter Kingdom
After the Vampire world, Prismo and Betty decide their adventuring is “complete” and attempt to teleport back to the Time Room with Prismos magic. This doesnt work out. Turns out, their human forms have been draining their magic slowly, making it so that they need to find a magical item to recharge. This being the Enchiridion.
This is a totally different world than (Canon) Winter Kings as obviously he is alive here.
Ooo has been mysteriously frozen over and put into an eternal Ice Age. There is hardly any life (apart from immortal beings and those resistant to the temperatures) so hardly anyone lives on the surface. Prismo automatically assumes WK is responsible, but Betty refuses to believe Simon would be the cause of this destruction. WK has a much larger kingdom with a variety of ice people, a lot of them more human-like in appearance. It seems like he is trying to mirror a human society.
Here WK has Bettys skeleton and attempting to use the cloning machine he has in F&C to clone a “real” Betty (which is why he doesnt have an ice clone of her).
The backstory of this WK mirrors my au version of him.
Prismo and Betty are briefly separated and I wont go into too much detail on the story. Betty gets the “safe” tour of the kingdom by WK and Prismo is left to wander in search for the Enchiridion. He starts to see things that point to a darker scene (fire people fighting ice soldiers, lack of any plant life, and ice clones of people who no longer exist). At the same time, Betty is off-put by WKs controlling nature. He reveals to her that he has been in a 100-year war with the Fire Kingdom “who destroy everything” with their flames, while ice “preserves it”. Betty is shocked to see the extent of destruction the Ice Kingdom has caused to Ooo and manages to slip away to do her own investigating. She eventually ends up in the room Bettys corpse is kept, which is the only place that WK allows plant life to grow. The Enchiridion was sitting on skeleton Bettys lap.
The two of them engage in a fight where he details his plan for her and Ooo.
Prismo manages to save her at the end of it. Up until this point hes been a pacifist in the story. They use the Enchiridion to teleport home and they end up.. not there.
Notes:
- I had a bonus page where Scrabby is reacting to PrisBetty not arriving back in the Time Room. He thinks they didnt teleport back on purpose.
- This page also has WK grabbing Bettys ankle right as she teleports. I was going to have WK teleport with them so there was some kind of threat. I am not sure yet.
- The fight scene was supposed to be a lot longer with Betty having the upperhand at first, But I didnt want to draw all of it.
- Winters appearance slowly turns back into Simon when separated from the magic crown.
EP IV: Back Home
They end up in Ooo where the magic teleported them into the sky, making them fall a great distance. They are a little injured, but Betty is mostly shaken by her experience in the Winter world. She redirects this into frustration at Prismo for not teleporting them to the correct place and that they would need to search another “sucky universe”.
Prismo is frustrated and goes off on his own to find another magical object. Betty stays put in the forest. When looking up, Prismo realizes the universe they teleported to was actually the main Ooo upon seeing the floating human city. He rushes back to where Betty was sitting, telling her to go find her Simon here in Ooo, that he knew that he had the Enchiridion in his closet. Betty refuses, knowing that she already said goodbye to Simon years ago and him seeing her again will only hurt him.
Prismo is annoyed at this but walks off, and Betty wanders around the forest until she encounters one of the transport boats that take people up to the city. In her reluctance, she hitches a ride. Meanwhile Prismo reaches a graveyard on the outskirts of the woods, he hides in the bushes and sees a familiar person, Finn, walking up and leaving a bouquet of flowers at the grave.
When Betty makes it up to the city, she explores for a bit before approaching Simon (who is signing a childs book). Before she could say anything, she covers her face with her hat and speeds off. He is at first confused by this but is immediately distracted by the kid again.
Betty is in shock and retreats onto the boat leading her back down to land. She eventually catches up to Prismo, who is kneeling over Jakes grave. She attempts to comfort him, but the words fall short. He asks her if she visited Simon, but Betty says she couldnt do it. At this point Prismo feels like he wasted his time in the Time Room when he could have been spending it in his human form visiting Jake. He remained trapped in the TR unable to spend time with the mortals he built connections with. He feels that Betty is going to suffer the same regret he feels after Simon inevitably dies.
In a turn of events, Prismo places his hand on the grave and it teleports them back into the Time Room. They are amazed by this, Jakes grave acted like a magical object would have. They temporarily celebrate before Betty is impaled by an angry Scrabby.
Bettys human form is heavily injured as Prismo and the Scarab fight in several rooms. Scrabby tells him that he alerted the auditors about their misdeeds. That they will both be locked away for thousands of years or perhaps forever just like he was trapped in the Time Room.
Prismo temporarily subdues Scrabby and goes back to the main room where Betty is. This is where he turns her into a fox to keep her hidden, and promises that her memories are all stored in her body dormant in Golb (Like how Prismos form is dormant in the Time Room).
Fox!Betty wakes up in Ooo, no memories, a feeling of disconnect from her body, and hungry.
End of Act 1
Act II is all about Bettys life as a fox in Ooo. Its a lot calmer and slow burn in comparison to Act I. Upon landing in Ooo, fox!Betty encounters posters advertising Simons* sci-fi series Casper and Nova. She is convinced he is knowledgeable about space because a talking dog told her he was.
*EDIT: Someone pointed out that C&N was written by Astrid (it is implied heavily). Pretend the posters are the two of them working together, maybe Simon helping Astrid write them since she is just a kid.
She starts pestering Simon at one of his book signings and he already dislikes foxes because earlier in the week, a band of them stole his draft for an upcoming book. Betty proposes that she will find the notes and return them to him if she can have a place to stay (Even though he says no, she crashes at his place anyway).
I thought about Simon giving Betty a nickname so that she isnt just referred to as “fox”, so she is “Sunny” since she really likes when he makes sunny-side up eggs. She really likes eggs as a fox that is her quirk.
Update 1/21/24: Sunny encounters Simon after breaking into his home and snooping around for clues. Simon ambushes her in the Golb ritual room, assuming she has come to steal the Enchiridion. Sunny explains herself and claims that she can get Simons draft back from the fox thieves. They go on an “adventure”. It is revealed that fox!Betty can transform into Betty only when unconscious/sleeping. Simon wakes up next to her but assumes he is hallucinating..
Post about Simon and fox!Bettys dynamic.
I couldnt fit all images into this post as there is a 10 photo limit. I decided to link additional photos to underlined text. If you want further context, check those out. I love reading others AUs and was inspired to do my own. Any questions can be left in comment. Thanks for read..!

I’ve read your Winter’s Night fanfic on AO3 before it became private for members only
(you you are literally the person that has made me but the effort to finally send my email for an invite just to continue your work)
Reading your work and my long experience as a reader of many fics I felt that my feral likings could match up yours some way.
Sadly due to issues I’m unable to fully write my own fics but as you can see I can lay some good ground works and idea paths. So I tend to, if I accidentally find a fav author on here, and they ask ideas slip a lil something and scuttle back into my corner.
Idk tarot cards but I think when it comes to how the show uses it OGMarcy and STAR!Marcy are perfect example of right side up and upside down. So if those cards are right then I agree.
And for some reason I just believe in my heart of heart, that Simon’s blood after the many many years of Ice King May have a special tasting blood, maybe a satisfying chill after feel with a sweet or minty kick to it. So when they do manage to run away and VK managed to survive (if they tried killing running away and he could still drain blood from Simon) he’d want the special blood back and his daughter but also the blood.
Cause Bonnie DID say the vampires have hunted their food to near extinction so changing Simon probably won’t be in his best interest if he thinks rationally. But judging by the situation it can be said VK seems to be ignorantly impulsive to literally have his peoples food source dwindle like that and it obviously rubbed off on Marcy based on how she described her killing of Martin.
lmao my fic was never supposed to be publicly accessible because (for weird and convoluted reasons) making it locked helps prevent AI scraping, but im glad u got an Ao3 account its actually so worth it
Marcy being the Star is interesting to me as someone who is kinda familiar with the tarot cards. Upright it (loosely) represents hope, healing, and purpose. Inverted it means (again, loosely-there's lots of different interpretations) loss and arrogance... which is pretty in line with Star!Marcy lmao
((Fun fact- I first wanted to name Vamp!Simon The Hanged Man bc it represents wisdom/sacrifice, but thought it was just a little too much of a mouthful and a little too on the nose. The Hermit is also a great fit for him thematically but it feels mean to call him that lol. So I think I'm going to stick with calling him Temperance bc it represents patience, but more importantly the inversion of it means conflicting interests. It's also a fun bonus for literally just me to have Simon be the only vamp named for a virtue and not a tarot figure, to imply he's different from the rest))
I don't actually want to say much about your ideas with the VK bc I feel like once i get started, I'lll just ramble and give away all my ideas about the fics I have planned 😭 but VK being cruel and possessive is good food

hey guys! i know yall have been waiting for this for a few days and im proud to say that i finally have the whole timeline/backstory for bunny and i's adventure time ship lore sorted out!!!
so im proud to present our lore in extreme detail, its kinda rambly and very long!!
for yalls sake, im putting it under a read more 💀
kitty note: a lot of at’s canon events still happen, most of canon resides in the past, betty never comes back, so golb is never summoned. islands happens but no humans come back to ooo in fear of vampires, which are still an issue since marceline isnt alive either (referring back to the fact wk has ice marcy, implying something bad happened to her). some other canon events happen later on, so the timeline compared to ats is all over the place lol 😭 this has nothing in common with the f&c canon outside of the bare bones
for colored quotes, pink are for kitty, bold purple is for bonbon, blue for the wk and red for bunny :)
ik/wk gets ahold of the crown & puts it on in front of betty
betty doesnt get summoned to the present, she moves on after leaving simon
ik/wk meets marcy & has her for a couple of years before passing away (either due to the radiation from the gmw or due to the oozers that came from the radiation)
the original ice kingdom builds up around 500 years after gmw
kitty becomes princess of the stuffie kingdom about 700 years post-mushroom war
they meet princess bubblegum during a princess day celebration
this one is hosted in the breakfast kingdom
they get along famously during this princess day meeting & become fast friends
kitty meets ik/wk due to his princess kidnapping tendencies
kitty, once settled into his ice cell, informs him that theyre a lesbian
ik apologizes & they end up talking about girls until they get rescued
kitty & ik’s relationship mirrors marcy and simons post i remember you
BIG father/daughter type bond
after 150 years of friendship, kitty & pb persue a romantic relationship
their relationship is pretty healthy to begin with while both of their kingdoms are in infancy (725 years post gmw)
after ~200 years, theres a communication breakdown between the two of them, leading to their breakup
it takes a good amount of time before the two of them get back together- koo’s election still happens & she loses the ck for a while, which allows for their reunion to happen
bella noche gets summoned & ice king becomes simon again
this is the first time kitty gets a glimpse of who ik truly is
this, obviously, is an eye opener for them & they want to help ik gain his lucidity once more
kitty takes betty’s place in punching bella noche
marcy, as stated before, has passed & hambo is long gone, which prevents simon from creating the portal to apologize to betty
after bella noche’s defeat and kitty’s discovery, they ask bonnie for help in their quest to fix/cure the ik
bonnie agrees & offers to do some preliminary research on ik’s crown while kitty is away on royal business
bonnie uses the machine from “broke his crown”
ice king comes along with gunter
while ik and bonnie are using the machine & preoccupied, gunter is bored & starts pressing any and every button on the machine
this causes the machine to overload and explode
this accident transfers the curse of the crown from ik to bonnie via electric shock (from the explosion)/magic (the explosion malfunctions ik’s crown & the curse is transferred)
bonnie has amnesia from the crown curse
kitty returns from royal business and cant find ik anywhere and finds bonnie’s lab destroyed
kitty comes across bonnie, now bonbon, first
“…trying out a new look bonbon?”
“who’s bonbon? who are you? how did you get in here?”
bonbon is kind of aggressive, her mental state is adjusting to the curse
kitty, freaked out, goes in search of the ik, who is now the winter king
they finally come across wk while searching deep in the newly-forming winter kingdom
they ask him what happened & he genuinely has no idea what happened exactly, but offers to use his newfound conscious thought to help figure things out
kitty thanks him & they return back to their own kingdom
over the course of the next six months, kitty tries to adjust to bonbon’s changes & tries to help her remember
bonbon shows no interest in kitty, as the curse’s infatuation sets her sights on wk
kitty tries (and fails!) to ignore this & they try to help bonbon regain her memories
“i just got you back and ive lost you again” energy
kitty approaches wk & tells him that theyre going to be leaving to find a cure for bonbon’s madness & they werent sure when they would return
kitty’s sibling becomes the main one in charge in their absence & it stays this way
they lose touch with the wk after some time, leading him to believe they might be injured or worse- dead
kitty spends ~7.5 decades looking for a magic cure where both wk can continue to be wk and bonbon can turn back to normal to no avail
kitty meets magic man outside of the wastelands of ooo, where he promises to help in exchange for a favor
he’s still trying to steal glob/gob/grob/grod’s residual powers
the process malfunctions due to an interruption & magic mans powers transfers to kitty, making them magic woman
for the remaining 25 years before they return, they do intensive and obsessive magic studies in order to find a cure
they also occasionally watch bonbon from afar, watching the candy kingdom be rebuilt & just seeing how she’s doing
it is very painful for them but they miss her so much that they cant help themselves sometimes
bunny, age 24 by the time the 100 years have passed, meets winter king while assisting the ice scouts with another one of cq’s kidnappings
bunny is related to finn since josuha treated being an adventurer like a family business, so the tradition carries
impressed by their skill, wk appoints bunny to be his personal body guard due to their skill with a sword
since theyre always together, wk and bunny get to know each other rather quickly & become fast friends, bonding over magic and science
after some time, wk finds himself falling for bunny and he is not shy about those feelings in the slightest
he constantly flirts with them & makes it known that he likes them
bunny is oblivious + has had a crush on wk by this point anyway
wk takes bunny to some royal business & they get stressed out by all the people there/feeling like they dont belong due to the fancy event
wk takes bunny aside and gives them a pep-talk, a sweet one at that
“i wouldnt have invited you if i didnt think you wouldnt belong”
his hand is gently sliding towards theirs, interconnecting their fingers
“i brought you as my date for a reason..”
bunny.exe has stopped working
they confess their feelings to each other & they spend the rest of the event away from everyone, talking the night away.
wk and bunny enter a romantic relationship
two years pass & wk needs to go to wizard city, bunny accompanies him
the two run into kitty, causing a whole mess of emotions to run through wk- not good ones
kitty starts coming around more & becomes friends with bunny
kitty’s sudden reappearance is stirring up a lot of bad memories, thoughts & feelings with wk. despite this, the two are slowly rekindling a friendship
due to the bad feelings, wk is pulling away from bunny & is drowning himself in his work, this is a slow process, it takes a few weeks before bunny says anything
the stress of emotions is reaching to the point where he’s starting to see so much of betty in bunny & its scaring him
not to mention he’s feeling guilty about something…👀
during wk’s slow pull-back, bunny and kitty are venting to each other about their respective issues
my sona reveals that bonbon wasnt always the way she was & tells the story from their own perspective
bunny, having no idea this ever happened, decides to confront wk about his distance & why he never told them that he knew what was wrong with bonbon
during this confrontation, wk finally breaks down and reveals to bunny everything about what has happened & his thoughts
“you remind me so much of her..”
he also reveals the fact that there is a cure for bonbon’s madness that he discovered during kitty’s absence, but the caveat is that he would become the ik again. theres no way to be fully rid of the curse.
“are you ever going to tell kitty?”
“no. ive worked so hard for what ive had & i dont want to lose it.”
“but you really should, its unfair to them to hold onto hope that isnt th-“
“im not telling them!” he snaps at them
after he snaps at bunny, they decide that they need to think about things for a while & they spend the next few months in the magic man house with kitty
at some point during this period, kitty decides to go on a date with bonbon, mirroring bespoken for
rather than getting angry and frustrated like betty, they get progressively more upset and sad
during their breakdown, they reveal to bonbon that they used to date
bonbon later thinks about this & it begins the crowns obsession/infatuation slow shift from wk to kitty
this date doesn’t go well & kitty ends it early
bunny’s sona is the one to give the tiny manticore speech
“maybe you're going after someone who doesn't exist anymore. why not take her as she is? after all, you’ve been through a lot of changes yourself”
kitty takes bunny’s speech to heart & they think it over, but not immediately
on wk’s side of things, he is miserable and alone & wants nothing more than to apologize to bunny
he seeks out kitty, who takes him to the magic man house
he apologizes profusely
“i never meant to push you away.. ive just spent so long trying to avoid these feelings that i ended up exploding. i’m horrible at dealing with negative emotions, but i want to work on it for you. i am so sorry, bunny”
bunny, after hearing his apology, forgives him & they return back to the winter kingdom with wk
bunny & the winter king, once reunited, try and figure out a way to tell kitty that there is a cure to bonbon’s madness in a way that they wont freak out/blow up/snap
during this time, kitty comes back bonbon to give their date another shot, apologizing for how abruptly it ended last time
they end up having a simple spaghetti dinner & kitty realizes they have more in common now then they did 100 years ago
this date goes well & they continue to go on dates, falling in love with each other all over again
bunny and wk finally find a way to tell kitty that there is a cure but it would reverse everything in wk
my sona, interrupts them before they can say more than “we found a cure-“ and tells the two that they dont want to fix bonbon anymore & that things finally feel the way they should now, ending my sona’s arc
the four of them can finally relax & enjoy life once more & they all become close friends once more :3
#long post#a lot of this is rambly i am so sorry#some smaller stuff is still being worked out but this is the bigger things/timeline of the canon#other stuff might change & evolve too and if it does ill just edit this post lol#🍬🩷 candy buttons 🩷🪡#❄️winterbun🐰#selfship#self ship#f/o#mod kitty🐱

Here is an idea for wizard married au: what would happen if both Simon and Betty still had their sanity but both lose it between adventure time seasons 4 to 6? What would be their friends and family reaction seeing both Simon and Betty forget themselves?
Also I read the fics, they are amazing.
hooo boy
firstly, pb probably gets along pretty well with betty. bettys still overly protective and tends to just do things for marcy without asking, but she would never have taken it as far as magic queen did. they probably settled their differences and get along pretty well, along with simon.
finn holds them in high esteem. theyre the only two humans he knows, and thus the only ones who can really relate to his experiences as a human and guide him through them.
and finally, marcys abandonment issues are not nearly as bad. she still has them, dont get me wrong, but simon and betty also leaving her really fucked her up. here, theyre still there for her. and sure, she can see a difference in them from when they met compared to now, but thats easy to brush off as age. everybody gets more eccentric as they get older, right?
so a lot more people would end up hurt if they lost it at that point. theyve got a bigger web of friends and family. pb and marcy may still be icy, but they still care about each other, and so pb puts her nose to the grindstone to try and find a way to fix them, for marcys sake. finn is more than willing to pitch in. theres still so much he doesnt know about the world before, about humans, and if simon and betty are gone, he’ll never learn. more importantly, theyre marcys adoptive parents, and marceline is a good friend of his.
marceline is utterly distraught. i think at the very end, once its clear that theyre hanging on by a thread and pb cant fix this, she might actually leave. she doesnt want to see this. she’d rather leave them before they leave her.

have you read the simon and marcy comics? If yes, what do you think about them as a [SPOILERS FOR THE COMICS] finale of simon and betty's arc? or do you think it should have ended differently?
(I also wonder if they're going to address the comics in fionna and cake spinoff)
WARNING FOR SPOILERS HERE but i have! and no not really. from what ive read that comic in particular had to be rushed out of production so the last 2 (or maybe just the last one? i really dont remember) issues had to find a quick way to end it. that being said i dont like the ending at all lol and i cant blame it on the team because mann the first issues were so good it could have been a really great comic if the ending wasnt so forced. its one of the few comics that i personally dont consider canon but hey at least we get this insane page

OK SO UH
https://www.ign.com/articles/adventure-time-obsidian-release-date-trailer
ADVENTURE TIME: DISTANT LANDS OBSIDIAN TRAILER IS HERE!!! GO WATCH IT!!! OBSIDIAN WILL RELEASE ON THURSDAY THE 19TH OF NOVEMBER. THAT’S ONLY TEN DAYS AWAY.
Anyway, here’s my trailer breakdown. This is kind of just an emotional outpouring of everything that stuck out to me so sorry if it’s a little rambly.
Right off the bat I’m curious to know what’s going on with Princess Bubblegum. We saw at the end of the finale she was hanging out in Marceline’s house, and similarly this trailer depicts her having domestic moments with Marceline. So is she still ruling the Candy Kingdom? Has that responsibility perhaps passed on to somebody else? Or am I reading too much into some establishing shots designed to tell the viewer that this is set post-finale? Who knows.
The song in the background is, of course, “Monster”, the song sung at SDCC by Olivia Olson. We’ve already heard the full song, but it’s nice to hear a cleaned up studio version. I wonder when in the episode it will actually be sung, and whether or not it will be diegetic.
youtube
It looks like we’re going to be getting plenty of new Marceline and Bubblegum outfits over the course of the special. Even the establishing shots of Marceline’s house featured three different ones, which makes me think these shots will actually appear as a montage in the episode itself. It wouldn’t make much sense for them to change clothes over the course of the same scene otherwise.
Okay, as much as I want to, I’m not gonna fill this post with every Bubbline shot because I’m sure there are plenty of people doing that already.
THEN THERE’S THIS FUCKING SHOT:
The little girl on the right is almost certainly Marceline, but who is the person on the left? Simon, Marceline’s mom, and Hunson all come to mind but don’t really match the mysterious figure. It could be some kind of weird hybrid flashback scene where young Marcy is leading adult Bubblegum through her past. Whatever the case, this is clearly shortly after the war, and I am standing by my theory that the Glass Kingdom could be located in the Earth’s crater.
I don’t have a lot to say about the Glass Kingdom and its inhabitants. These are new characters and locations and it remains to be seen exactly how they will tie into Marceline and Bubblegum’s story. The animation and background design is looking exceedingly good, though. Again, this landscape doesn’t really match any of the deserts we’ve seen in Ooo so far, which makes me think this is somewhere else on Earth.
A fun Easter Egg: This shirt Marcy is wearing is the shirt given to her by Hunson in the episode “Marcy & Hunson”:
It’s interesting to see that what a lot of people assumed were spacesuits is actually motorcycle gear. I actually checked if Marceline’s motorbike is the same one she rides in the Thunder Road graphic novel, which would have been a neat tie-in, but unfortunately it’s not. Also I love that Glassboy has been duct taped to the back and covered in bubblewrap.
Oop there’s the storyboard we’ve seen. Seems like Marceline has been summoned by Glassboy to come and defend the kingdom against this mysterious dragon and its dark minions, which is pretty much what we already knew from the bits and pieces of plot information that have already been revealed.
It’s cool to see Bubblegum putting her elemental powers to use. She didn’t get much opportunity to show them off before the show ended. So far, most of the spotlight has been on Marceline, so I’m also interested to see what role Bubblegum plays in this story, and how her character will develop.
Also THE MORROW IS BACK! Bubblegum’s trusty mount was last seen helping her perform recon over Gumbaldia before the finale, but it looks like they’re getting back into the hero business this time.
We already know from the screenshot Muto posted that there is going to be a visit to a human gas station, but this looks more like some kind of bomb shelter. This is certainly one of the darker shots I’ve ever seen from Adventure Time. It looks like we’re going to be getting a lot more Mushroom War lore. Marceline’s dejected stance here makes me think this place has some personal meaning to her. If that skeleton turns out to be her mum or something I will never stop crying.
That’s all I’ve got for now. There’s probably some stuff I haven’t noticed. I haven’t looked at anyone else’s reactions or thoughts yet, I went in totally blind.
There isn’t long to wait until the special now! I was certainly not expecting a November release. Expect an Easter egg/lore breakdown from me when it drops!
Farewell for now!

Spiraling - A Fallen Hero: Rebirth Fan-fiction
You need cover, you need an alibi, and you need a place to plan and work out your next criminal action. What could go wrong from combining all that? [Survival]
[Read on AO3]
Another day, another spike of adrenaline courses through you as you dive feet first through a stack of boxes, sending crates of delicate electronic equipment everywhere. You can hear alarms sound around you as the factory goes into full alert, the clanging of barring gates. You grin under the mirror sheen of your helmet. That suits you fine, keep the small fry penned up and out of the way? You’re too kind.
The wall in front of you collapses into dust thanks to the nanovores and you tear through the office, grabbing at papers at random. What you take doesn’t actually matter at this point, compromising their records is the goal here.
Damage done, you refer to your map, dissolve another wall and follow your thread out, back to the main entrance.
The woman standing in your way gives you pause. You’d been psyching yourself up for a rematch against Chen, but no, its Lady Argent, hands at her sides and poised to rush you. A half-circle of rent-a-cop security goons behind her block you in. “A factory, Puppetmaster? What, they stop inviting you out to parties?” She smirks and hunches down, fingers lengthening into sharpened claws.
Your face twitches under your helmet. “Don’t read the papers, Argent? It’s Ghost.” You hiss. Your voice, filtered through your helmet has a hollow, flat sound. You take a quick count of Lady Argent’s back-up, who’s most pliable to tying up the rest. None of the officers seem to trust Argent. Good. That makes this easier.
The woman of steel looks unimpressed. “Can’t say I care what you call yourself.”
That does it.
One of the rent-a-cop’s guns goes off ‘prematurely’, firing wide to your left, the rest follow in blind panic as you dive to the side. Argent is too focused on you, but with the Rat-King’s help you’re able to pull the rest of the goof troop into your song, pulling their attention in random directions. One of the shots dings Argent in her shoulder, bouncing off to through ground and to her credit she doesn’t look for the culprit, making straight for you.
You run your hand along the ground as you move, leaving a split in the asphalt as the Nanovores chew through material. Lady Argent tries to cut you off so you encourage two of the goons to stumble into her way as you continue your circle around them. You can’t afford to move slow enough for a deep groove, but if this works as planned, all you need is to prime the cut.
If it works.
Argent huffs, shoving one of the men the side, only for another to conveniently take position between the two of you. “Get out of the way!” It doesn’t slow her down for long, but it’s enough for you to finish the circle. Under your helmet you grin, heart pounding.
All that’s left is the magic word. You give the Rat-King the command to pull the strings and yank everyone back in.
You dash forward and slide down, just under the swipe of her claws. She turns to stab down at you as you come to halt. You roll out of the way and kick her arm aside on your way back up.
You check to make sure everyone’s inside the circle you’ve carved through the asphalt. “Heads up.” is all the warning you give before an explosion rocks the ground under everyone’s feet. A furious Argent diving towards you finds only empty space underneath her, and you leap back as the asphalt caves in.
When the dust clears you risk taking a quick check of everyone’s mental state; a lot of fear and alarm, some pain, but the headcount is still the same. You think.
Hopefully.
You shake your head. Focus. Don’t get distracted. Stay in control. You watch Argent and the rest pick themselves up, clear rubble off their buddies. You have to harden your heart against it, remember who they are, what they represent. “Next time,” you call down, “remember my fucking name!”
Admittedly, Argent makes it easier. She’s staring up at you, a single silver middle finger outstretched.
You don’t like the way she’s eyeing one of the support columns. Can she climb her way out? You don’t intend to stick around and see, it’s time to make yourself scarce.
–––
Every super villain needs a secret lair. A base of operations. Somewhere you can plan your next move, keep mission critical materials. If Ariadne is going to be stuck playing retired civilian, it’s even more important to keep her as separated as you can from Ghost’s activities.
Eventually the day will come when you have to cast off that identity completely, but two years isn’t long enough to make you eager to resume a life of being actively on the run from a government agency. You need to gather more influence – and protection – if you’re going to ever unmask without it being an immediate disaster.
To that end… Ariadne needs a cover. She needs a job, co-workers, hobbies. A new wardrobe. You need Ortega to take a breather and ease off on trying worm her way in and fix every little aspect of your life.
So you’ll combine the two.
Technically a ‘Melissa Simone’ owns the computer repair shop you’re standing in front of. Ms. Simone also interviewed and hired yourself and the middle-aged lady with greying hair now manning the front counter.
You put a hand on the front door, hesitating. You keep putting this off but… guess you better ‘officially’ meet your new co-worker.
A bell chimes as you step inside. Old computer advertisements adorn the walls while parts and models are neatly stacked into three aisles across the open front half of the room. The building itself is on the older side. Hopefully a bit more use will get it looking properly run down enough to seem like it’s always been a repair shop here.
The woman at the counter looks up with a smile, a phone pressed to her ear. She holds a finger up as you approach.
You didn’t hire Marcie for her customer service skills. You hired her because she’s a terminally incurious middle-aged woman who fully intends to spend as much of her time talking to friends on the store phone or otherwise shirking her duties as much as possible.
Leaning an arm against the counter you wait for her to finish her current conversation, drumming your fingers against the wooden countertop. Watch the clock on the wall tick the seconds by. Finally she hangs up and turns back to you with a tired expression. “Alright, what do you want?”
You put on a sickly sweet smile. “My name is Ariadne Becker? Y–your um… co-worker?”
Marcie blinks, frowns, then flushes red. “Oh!” She hurries out from behind the counter, “Oh, I’m so sorry. I thought you were a customer.”
“I could tell.”
She puts her hand out and you give it a quick shake. “Are you really the only repairm–person here?”
“Eh.” You shrug, glancing at the beaded doorway to the back room. “If business ever picked up maybe it’d be worth hiring more.” Glance back to her, smile again. “For now, I’m it yeah. I don’t usually bother with – with um, the front entrance.”
“Well, if you ever need something from me, sweetie, you let old Marcie know, okay?”
You blink, not sure how to respond. She wasn’t this nice to Jane– ahem ‘Melissa Simone.’ “Uh. Y–yeah, sure. Thanks.” You cough. “Um… Ms. Simone gave you the – the rundown about the back right?”
Marcie looks at you, arching a skeptical eyebrow. “To stay the hell out? Yeah.” She leans in, “So… what are we fronting here sweetheart? Drugs? It’s drugs isn’t it.” She straightens her back with a dramatic sigh. “It’s always drugs.”
“I – what???” You stare at her. “W–we’re not – not ‘fronting’ anything!?”
She frowns. Is she… disappointed…!? “Oh? Really? Well. A job’s a job, I guess.”
“I… I just have a… very particular system. Okay?” You shove your hands into your pockets, looking away from her. Stare at the posters on the wall.
“Ah. You’re one of those.” One of those what? You can’t pick it up from her thoughts, just the sliding of her changing expectations. “Well, I’ll keep out of your hair, sweetie.” She steps aside, “It was nice to meet you Ariadne, dear.”
You walk past her in a daze. Push through the bed curtain into your ‘workshop.’ A central table has a pile of half-deconstructed computer cases, their silicon guts scattered haphazardly. A tool kit hangs from the wall alongside a clear plastic cabinet of replacement parts.
Hopefully the facade holds up. You don’t have much intention of actually doing computer repair work here. It’s more than a little concerning that Marcie of all people immediately jumped to the ‘criminal front’ explanation. Was hiring her a mistake? She doesn’t seem to actually care. Maybe you should go out of your way now and then to drum up business. Put some effort into looking legit.
Aside from the bathroom and breakroom, there’s one more room. Your actual workshop. The shop technically is built onto the side of an old warehouse. You’ve walled off most of the space, installed a hidden door, just inside next to the back door out.
You didn’t use up the entire warehouse. Just walled off a decent sized chunk. The rest has been dressed up. Mostly shelves of boxes full of bricks. Something that’ll pass at least cursory inspection.
The door slides open to your touch, keyed to your fingerprint. It springs back into place as you step past. The lights flicker on at low-power. Now here is where you can finally start to get shit done. Your armor is mounted to a secondary hidden compartment recessed into the far wall, next to a bed in case you need to crash or puppeteer Jane for a bit.
You’re particularly proud of the hiding place you’ve created for the Rat-King; an oversized lava lamp sits on the bedside table, a soft blue glow filling the room. Even if anyone breaks in here, anything of value will still be hidden. You’re not completely stupid.
One corner of the room is taken up by a bank of screens and a computer terminal. A system of motion detectors, CCTV, and trip alarms have been carefully set up over the past month in a two block radius around the shop. Nothing is coming near here without you getting some kind of record of it.
And then, last but not least, against one wall a full-length table stretches underneath a pristine corkboard.
Not pristine for long… You reach back into your pocket and pull out a wad of folded up, blood stained papers. The only thing you were able to salvage from the Marconi fiasco. Could have just pinned this while you were setting everything up, you guess.
But this feels more dramatic.
You grab a pin from the cork board and smooth out the creases with your other hand. Jam the paper to the middle of the board. A bill of sale for something called a ‘Regenerator.’ You don’t recognize the name of the buyer, but the listed seller is the personal assistant to Mayor Alvarez.
You pin a scattering of related articles next to the receipt, your prize from today’s factory theft. They’re all related to the sudden government take-over and closure of the regenerator’s parent company, PharmaCore.
What exactly is going on here; you have no idea. But it’s shady as shit, and that means it’s a point of attack. If you’re going to crack the damn city open, this is your starting point. You grab a pen and paper as you sit down at the desk.
You hum a tune under your breath as you work. Time to start planning out your next moves.

Okay, so shout-outs to the anon (or maybe multiple anons) who told me to read Marcy’s Super Secret Scrapbook. I freaking loved it! I’m also glad I read it at this point and didn’t wait until after the whole series. It makes such a good companion piece to the Stakes mini-series.
The Enchiridion was...not quite as exciting, but still had a couple of neat tidbits. Simon’s notes are nice. The Wizard section was fairly interesting. Some nice lore and world-building. I kind of wish the Bestiarum Vocabulum section had a bit more to it. And I must admit I was slightly disappointed that the Enchiridion did not, in fact, explicitly state that you should not strike a foe who’s raised their bottom to the sky. The Scrapbook is so in line with the mini-series; it would’ve been nice if the Enchiridion could’ve incorporated that as a little nod. They cover their bases with the explanation that there are multiple editions and even strongly imply that Finn’s was an earlier edition, but it still would’ve been neat.
A far more glaring omission is the Empress. Hierophant and the Vampire King are both mentioned in the Scrapbook, but the Empress isn’t. She knew both Marceline and Simon. Marcy had her power of invisibility so she must have staked and absorbed her at some point. My best guess is that the Empress enthralled Simon at a point when Simon was still writing the notes and it was on one of the pages he pulled out before he left. Or maybe Marceline just didn’t write it down for some reason. Or the writers just dropped the ball and didn’t catch this little continuity hiccup.
Those are my general thoughts. I’m also doing the whole images of my some of my favorite stuff interspersed with my reactions and commentary thing, but since this is gonna be an extra-extra long post, I’ve decided to actually use a read more cut this time.
Marcy and Bonnie talking about Simon in the margins. Give me some of that in the show.
This is the kind of lore development I like to learn about.
Does that mean the writers have thoughts about more Shoko development in future episodes and didn’t want to burn up their ideas in the side material?
International crisis. I mean that was more-or-less implied by the irradiated world, but I like learning more info. Also, he’s already talking about going North. It fits that they paired this with the Scrapbook. The notes follow through for tracking Simon’s progression into madness.
Sure. Again, kind of vaguely implied already by the series, but nice to know.
Now all I can think of is “long ago the four nations lived together in harmony...” Thanks to whoever sent that ask.
I may wanna get these on buttons or patches for my coat to go with the Avatar symbols.
Not sure what to make of this. I feel like it’s some kind of lore for the show. Maybe something to do with Prismo?
Hoo boy. Here we go. The feels train is pulling into the station.
This relationship is just so moving. I’m a sucker for found families.
More world building. Bring it on.
Even if Simon’s story hadn’t been tied to Marcy’s, it would still be one of the most interesting parts of the show. And that first paragraph feels like something that should’ve come up in the show by now. They really haven’t explained quite enough about Betty for my liking. Learning that she has a history of studying these kinds of things helps clarify why she’s so willing and able to take the approach she’s been taking.
After Bonnie and Neddy, I can only assume that this is the Mother Gum in its early days.
Mmhm. Sure. Matter’s more pliable. I can dig it.
The vibrational talk reminded of that bag of miniature people that Magic Man planted on Finn that one time. And he had to shake them to speak to them on their vibrational plane or whatever. I wonder if that’s ever gonna come back with some kind of added significance.
Reminds me of when Life kissed Death.
Wonder if that was a deliberate nod or not.
This. Relationship.
Again, I’m glad I read this now. The thing I couldn’t quite puzzle out after Stakes was where Hunson Abadeer fit into things. This is filling in some of the blanks quite nicely.
You know, after seven seasons of Grob Gob Glob Grod, it was a little jarring to actually see the word “God” here. I’ve got a pretty good recall for character voices, so I could basically hear Tom Kenny saying it as I read it. Of course it makes sense that Simon would have God in his vernacular. Somehow, after the phrase being conspicuously absent for so long, it seems to punch up the impact.
She celebrates her birthday around the time Simon found her! This precious child!
Oh, I can hear it in her voice. My heart!
“I don’t think I’ll ever see him again. Ever.”
There’s no mention of her encountering him again in the scrapbook. I’ve already mentioned the Empress, conspicuous in her absence. And she alludes to other meet-ups in the episode “I Remember You.” I can only assume those meetings take place after the last page of the scrapbook.
I’d love to know more though. I’d love to see her first discovering that Simon’s still alive, but completely insane now. And I’d love to know how we get from this:
To this:
There’s so much of the story that’s still untold.
That moment in Bad Little Boy where Ice King was like “Gob, I’m sorry I doubted your power” kind of takes on a new dimension when you think about how Simon’s from a different time.
“I hope these bring you comfort now that I’m gone, and remind you that you are loved.”
Just fuck me up, why don’t you?
“I want to feel her holding me in her arms and hugging me again like that.”
JUST FUCK ME UP, WHY DON’T YOU?
Again, this ties in so well with the Stakes mini-series. This was exactly the right time to read this for maximum emotional resonance.
Oh, Marcy, you poor, sweet, confused, little angel.
Well, I wanted to know where Hunson fit into things. Should’ve known it would be bad times.
Yeah, I can kind of relate to not having a great father but still wondering how much of who you are is from him.
Deep. Especially at her age. Simon did say she was smart. And of course she had to grow up fast, given that world was a wreck.
“He didn’t deserve what happened to him.”
I concur.
I can also kind of relate to giving your not-so-great dad another chance and getting burned again. I suppose it’s not really a shock that I gravitate toward characters who have poor relationships with their fathers.
I never really gave any thought to how difficult it would’ve been to even find fries at that time. And the fact that it was the first time he stole something specifically from her also gives it a little more weight. Like I’ve said before, it’s hard to tell when something’s just a throwaway gag and when something’s gonna come back later with added perspective and significance. I have to wonder how much they thought about in advance and how much is just them looking back and saying “we can expand on that.”
There must be at least some of it that they knew they wanted to develop even from the very early stages.
It’s interesting to figure out where Hunson comes into the picture, but I still don’t fully understand all of it. Primarily: How could a human woman see enough merit in Hunson Abadeer that she would want to sleep with him? What stopped him from immediately sucking out her soul? Why was he even on Earth shortly before or during the Great Mushroom War? There’s still a lot of room to grow on here.
Oh, honey, you’re the most interesting person in this universe.
“I still hope for a living friend.”
I was kind of hoping I might get the story of how she met Bonnibel, but I guess they’re saving that for the show. Must be after the events in the scrapbook.
Gimme all the lore. And Marcy wandering through an abandoned sunken mall full of skeletons shouting for Simon is an absolutely heartbreaking thought.
This angel child deserves nothing but happiness.
THIS. RELATIONSHIP.
She found a puppy! Ahhh! They’re so precious!
Yas, Queen!
This poor girl can just never catch a break.
This backstory is fantastic.
RIP, my dude.
Rise, Marcy the Vampire Slayer.
Let’s go!
Oh no, what’s wrong with Schwabl?
Marcy defending the last of the life on Earth against the scourge of the vampires. I’d seriously watch a whole series of this.
“Staking vampires, protecting the last remaining humans. It felt like I was protecting you. It was the only thing that brought me happiness during those years.”
Fascinating.
It’s rough watching a character who’s so good go through so much pain.
No, not the puppy!
Save the puppy!
Also, that time she almost went feral on Jake was probably really terrible for her because it would have stirred up these memories.
Another good reason to pair the Enchiridion - and particularly Simon’s notes - with this. Who would’ve thought that Marcy owned it for a time?
Thank goodness something turned out okay in all of this.
Wild. So is this Simon and the Crown, or some other force causing it? Does it affect the whole planet, or just the continent Marcy’s on? What about all the humans who were leaving on the boat? Can they survive an ice age? Is it a full “400 really boring years” like in Finn’s wish world? Longer? Shorter? This side material raises at least as many questions as it answers.
So Simon found the Enchiridion and took notes on it for a while before finally sending it to a museum in Scandinavia just was the international crisis that would become known as the Great Mushroom War was ramping up. Then some wizards found it. Then Marcy found the wizards and took it from them. Now the Enchiridion is with Marcy in hibernation. Then somehow it ends up with a minotaur later and Bubblegum is the one who tells Finn where to get it. There’s another chapter in between there and I feel like it involves both Marceline and Bubblegum. Marcy’s life after the ice age could probably fill another book or two.
Precious angel child.
Oh snap, it’s actually written by the people who play Marceline and Hunson.
That was a trip and a half to read. I love the backstory and world building so much. Even in the early episodes I suspected that there must be some kind of substance to this universe for the show to go on for as long as it did. Based on the early stuff though I had lowered my expectations and never imagined that this universe would gain so much depth, complexity, and (above all else) tragedy.
Marceline seems so carefree, but she’s been through SO. MUCH. Most of it while she was still a small child. The people of Ooo are absolutely blessed to have someone like Marceline in their world. And they’re also quite fortunate that her trauma didn’t push her to the full-on dark side. Even after a thousand years of so much confusion and loss, however chaotic she may get, she still has such a good heart.
And wow does reading this ever reinforce my desire for them to figure out a way to save Simon. “He didn’t deserve what happened to him” is so right. Although if it hadn’t happened to him, he never would’ve been able to protect Marcy. He probably would’ve died in the Great Mushroom War like almost everyone else, and Betty would’ve died too. Maybe you could chalk it up to Marcy’s mother’s last prayer being answered or the universe working in mysterious ways or possibly even retrocausality that Simon was able to survive and care for Marcy. Even so, I’m about four seasons beyond ready for the heroes and protagonists to help this poor old man get back the sanity that was stolen from him.
I feel like Finn’s the key somehow. The Crown seems to be possessed by a ghost or spirit. Gunther’s unfinished ghostly business was Evergreen and Evergreen’s unfinished ghostly business was the Catalyst Comet and Finn’s the reincarnation of the Catalyst Comet and all of that’s tied up with the Ice Crown. It seems like there’s some kind of puzzle taking shape there. Betty’s studying psychometric energy, magic, and Glob’s freaking helmet...Glob who was last seen facing off against, once again, the Catalyst Comet.
And just from the Doylist perspective, the writers have been spinning out this tragic tale of Simon Petrikov for a long time and it would be emotionally unsatisfying if they never save this poor man’s mind. I’m worried they might make me wait until the end of the show to fully resolve it though. I was worried for a while that getting his mind back would kill him, but after the events of the episode “Betty” I don’t expect them to take that route.
Simon and Marcy are such tragic characters and I feel for them both. I love learning more about them, even when most of what I learn breaks my heart. The two of them embody so much of what gives this universe its heart and brings it to life.

Disney+ UK Star Launch: Complete List of New TV Shows and Films
https://ift.tt/2P7STsN
We came for The Mandalorian, stuck around for WandaVision, and, as we wait for The Falcon and Winter Soldier and Loki to arrive, there’s now a huge pile of new catalogue additions to work through, courtesy of Disney Plus’ Star brand.
Star launched on the Disney Plus streaming service in territories outside of the US (where Disney already has a home for adult drama in Hulu) on the 23rd of February. It’s added over 75 TV shows and 280 feature films here in the UK, including the entirety of Lost, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The X-Files, Glee, Prison Break, Sons of Anarchy and Scrubs as well as cult favourites Firefly, Flashforward, Terriers and more. There are also some UK debuts in the form of the Star Originals listed below.
Film-wise, there’s ample reason to go back to the 90s in the form of Arachnophobia, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Con Air and a host of others, plus…well, it’s almost 300 films. Chances are you’ll find something to tickle your fancy. Households with kids should know there are new parental controls to set too, ensuring that nobody gets any unwelcome surprises.
Here’s the complete list of titles so far:
Star Originals
Big Sky
From Mr TV himself, David E. Kelley (Doogie Howser, Chicago Hope, Ally Mcbeal, Big Little Lies) comes a nine-part crime thriller starring Ryan Philippe and Vikings‘ Katheryn Winnick. Based on the 2013 novel The Highway by C.J. Box, Big Sky is the story of a series of missing girls and a private detective/cop trio with a messy personal history who team up to find them. It aired on ABC in the US last winter.
Helstrom
There’s very little fanfare for this comic book show‘s UK debut, which met with mostly negative reviews on release and was cancelled after 10 episodes, but Marvel completists will want to take a look. Tom Austen and Sidney Lemmon play the Helstrom siblings Daimon and Satana, the children of serial killers who hunt down the worst of humanity.
Love, Victor
Another Hulu original making its UK debut, this teen drama spins off from celebrated gay teen 2018 film Love, Simon. It’s narrated by Nick Robinson, who played Simon in the original film, and follows the story of a Puerto-Rican/Colombian-American teen living in Atalanta. Reviews for the 10-part first season were strong and it’s been renewed for a second.
Solar Opposites
Rick and Morty‘s Justin Roiland and Star Trek: Lower Decks‘s Mike McMahan are the creators of this adult animated comedy series about a family of aliens (pictured above) forced to seek refuge in middle America. Season one was enthusiastically received, and a second run is due to air in the US in March. Read plenty more about it here.

Why Bubbline will never be canon - and that's okay! Excuse the self-assured title, but I wanted it to be eye-catching. To put out a disclaimer right off the bat, know that I have no problem with people who ship Bubbline, or Bubbline as a concept. Nor am I saying this is 100% true.Everything you're about to read is my own interpretation of Princess Bubblegum's relationship with Finn and Marceline - a culmination of what I've gathered from how they are portrayed, and hard evidence in the show itself and the staff surrounding it.To put it out there right now: I wouldn't care if I'm dead wrong and the show confirms Bubbline in the finale. I would nod my head and go, "Okay, so it is," and reexamine their relationship in light of this new information. All I'm doing here is offering my own insight - because I've been going back and forth with /u/leusid about this for a while, and decided many on this sub would find my ramblings interesting, or at least insightful.I'm aware it's hard to see anything outside of this perspective after it's felt confirmed for so many years, but understand mine as I explain the rest of my reasoning. So here's what I believe: Bubbline has never, and will never, be canon - furthermore, the series may end with Fubblegum.Fucking nuts, right? Why would I think such a thing, when the writers have dropped copious amounts of Bubbline fuel, and Fubblegum's been effectively dead since season 3?!(Can I just say I hate using these stupid ship names? I just do because people know what I'm referring to with a single word.)To address the elephant in the room: the hints. They're so obvious, why would the writers put them there if it wasn't canon!? Well, here's the thing - this show is well-written, and every line and scene is crafted with thought and intent; the characters, despite their strangeness, are very human and real in how they grow and interact. We all know this, but I'm emphasizing it because I agree that - yes - all of those scenes were intentional.Because I think the writers are just fucking with y'all, and I wouldn't put it past them to do that.Everyone interpreted What Was Missing to have Bubbline hints - despite Rebecca's song "I'm Just Your Problem" being a personal song she wrote about how she once felt toward her coworkers working on the show, which is followed by "Best Friends in the World." Despite her work on Steven Universe, I don't think she would just decide to make two main characters gay unless the entire staff, and Ward, agreed upon it.The next time we get any teasing, it's in Sky Witch - and the ONLY tease is Bubblegum sniffing the fuck outta that shirt (which I will talk about further down). Everything from then on was framed in a romantic lens, when in truth, you can just as easily see their interactions as a close, special friendship. From the moment I heard it, Marcy's line from Ketchup - "If that's how you interpret it" - just feels like the writers addressing everyone who reads Bubbline in their interactions. There's three specific instances I've discussed regarding implications of Bubbline in the show, and will use to explain why I interpret their relationship the way I do: a little moment in Broke His Crown, the aforementioned shirt, and that scene with Finn and Bubblegum everyone seems to forget about.First, this moment in Broke His Crown. You have to keep in mind that when creating a show, whether it's live action or a storyboarded cartoon, every character movement is done with intent or purpose. That's just how this medium conveys its story and characters. So with that in mind, take this into account: Gunther, Bonnie, Marceline and Simon are navigating the maze of the crown, trying to find the source of its corruption. In the establishing shot they are walking in this order. But as soon as dialogue starts, it's something private and personal between Simon and Marceline, and it keeps the focus on them. You have to keep in mind that this is the first time Bonnie has encountered the man - and this episode is her finally coming to emotionally understand why Ice King is so important to Marceline. This is important because, when in the next shot with Bubblegum, she's walking beside Gunther, smiling, hand on the back of his head - something interesting about that is she doesn't quite interact with him like Marceline does throughout the episode. She just meekly waves goodbye to him at the end, even. It's not because she dislikes Gunther, but she lacks the connection to him that Marceline does, for a number of personal reasons I bet - primary reason he's just data in a piece of equipment she'll likely never meet again. But this setup is important because it shows that Bonnie respects this is a personal moment for Marcy and Simon, and is giving them some privacy. When Simon asks Marcy if she has a boyfriend, she gives a loud, sharp laugh due to Ash being the only boyfriend she's ever had - her only romantic partner - and he was quite the shitpiece. Many have interpreted Bonnie's reaction here as relief that she doesn't have a boyfriend. But Bonnie doesn't grin to herself like this, as she's already smiling. She only looks over because of this laugh, and turns the moment Marceline says "No" - a sign that she was interested in Marceline's reaction, and also was listening to their dialogue the whole time. When she realizes it's all in good nature from Marceline, she resumes to her previous position of looking ahead alongside Gunther with a smile. If there truly were any intentional romantic implications to this scene, then Bonnie would have looked over as soon as Simon asked that question, and looked away smiling after Marceline said "No."And I was going to mention him anyway, but Ash is one of the reasons why I don't see Bubbline happening. If there was something in the past, Marcy would have likely told Simon. That's not hard evidence but it's more to the contrary of the ship like I believe, as I don't think Marcy would lie to Simon about PB being her girlfriend at one point (or even currently, as some people insanely believe). Ash was Marceline's only romantic partner, and it proves why she, as a person, is not ready for such a thing. The thing about Marceline's character is she craves healthy companionship, with anybody. Throughout her life she's only lost people she cared about, and her early life is what shaped her into the emotionally aloof punk we know and love in pre-Stakes Adventure Time. Ash was one of many instances that shows just how broken Marceline is inside - where she endured and blinded herself to someone who was clearly abusing her, not physically but emotionally - solely because she didn't want to be alone again. If that isn't telling, Marceline even lied to Simon about the nature of their breakup: she didn't dump him because he was a jerk, though that's the heart of it simplified to the max. She dumped him because he betrayed her trust and sold something that was beloved to her - but she doesn't have that specific memory anymore, only the knowledge that he took it away so she'd still be with him.Ash was more than a jerk, and Marceline didn't break up with him because of that. Even though Bonnie isn't Ash, obviously, it's clear that neither Marceline nor the Princess were ever in a healthy emotional state to endure a serious relationship. It's so much more telling, and fitting, that they had their ugly breakup in a friendship sense in the past.Take Marcy's history and person into account, and then take Bubblegum's: she's only ever had the Candy People as her friends, her whole life is dedicated to preserving their's, and she's immortal. Because of these factors it was hard to finally be a real friend with someone who was her equal, just as it was for Marceline, and that's why they had a falling out that, only by the end of Varmints, has finally started to mend itself, and that's because of the friendship they share with Finn.Because a friendship between these two would be incredibly positive for both of them. Although they are very different on the outside, deep inside these two share many spiritual similarities: they have trouble expressing their emotions, yet both have a boundless capacity to care; they're both teenagers, and immortal. Both have gone through untold trials and tribulations that have resulted in their emotional isolation. Since Varmints, Marceline has come to understand why Bubblegum is the way she is, and since Sky Witch, or even What Was Missing, really, Bubblegum's better understood why Marceline is the way she is.Or perhaps not - perhaps long before that. I think Bonnie never had a problem with Marceline (in fact, given how lonely she is, and her rebuttal in What Was Missing, I'm sure she loved the friendship she had with her, and was deeply hurt and confused when she was driven away by an apparent lack of caring).Which brings me to another point: the shirt.First off, before we get into anything about that, I wanna address the smelling - as people bring it up a lot. It's so easy to just look at the scene and not think about it - we see a shirt Marceline gave Bubblegum, and she's just smelling the F out of it. Clearly this has romantic connotations to it, up until you actually think about it and what that means if there really was true romantic intent behind her actions here.Because if there were, then that means she's smelling Marceline's scent, and that makes no goddamn sense, because Marceline obviously doesn't, and hasn't, worn that shirt. I mean maybe I'm weird but I've smelled my own clothes before - and Bonnie's weirder. Her own bubblegum-aroma's ingrained in that thing by now, she wears it every night for Christ's sake. This is probably the exact line of thinking the writers had when making Sky Witch. What you don't know about writers, is they think, a lot, about what they're writing. Any one that has a bit of pride cares about what they're putting out, so I'm sure this has crossed their mind and they knew people would read romance into it because Bubbline is massively popular. People were obviously going to be looking for more fuel for their ship, given that it was the first episode they had together since, but when you take this moment out, the entire episode is just Bubblegum and Marceline on an adventure.I think that was a mistake honestly, because people just saw the rest of the episode through a romantic lens and really missed the excellently crafted dynamic between these two characters - really told a lot about how they viewed and interacted with each other at the time. Now the shirt: I think with everything I've said, it's even more important to both characters that it's a symbol of their friendship.Take my little analysis of them into account, and you'll see why such a friendship is not only an incredibly positive influence on the both of them, but also very important for both their happiness. Stakes, among everything that it accomplished for Marceline's character, also casually displayed why Bonnie is important to her, and vice versa. It isn't in the forefront, but we see in their actions and interactions with each other that they have the ability to be such great friends to one another - and in Marcy's dream, her desire is to live her life being Bubblegum's best friend. And from what Bonnie offers at the end, this is something she wishes for as well. Marceline conceding that they may now be "together forever" shows how much of a growing experience Stakes was for her.I know blushing typically has romantic connotations to it, and Bonnie did so twice in the miniseries: when Marceline tells her this, and when she calls her "nice and pink", though Bubblegum focuses on the "nice" aspect, thinking she actually means nice, as a person. You have to keep in mind that from PB's perspective, at this stage in their friendship, although they've made amends she probably still thinks Marceline is bitter with her - she acknowledges in Varmints how awful she's treated her, after all, and I'm sure she hasn't forgotten about it with a single wave of the hand from Marceline. So these two statements by her must have made Bonnie feel forgiven. So the shirt Marceline gave her, from Princess's perspective, was more important to her than Hambo was to Marcy - something whose significance we are fully aware of.According to Maja, who is the head mistress on all things emotional, that has greater value to PB than a doll Marceline was given by the father figure who'd saved her and was inevitably lost.To me, this just tells me how important Marceline's friendship is to Bonnie. Marcy's one of the few real friends she'd ever had in her long, long life - and I've hammered to death already why that's significant. You're right, Bonnie isn't an emotional person - but she shows so much through her actions, all throughout the series. Look at the lengths she's willing to go to protect the Candy People, her appreciation and value of Finn - even in Broke His Crown, how she doesn't hesitate to help Ice King because she knows how important he is to Marceline.Actions speak louder than words, and Bubblegum understands this better than anybody, even if she herself doesn't realize this. And someone giving her a gift? What was probably the first gift she ever got, and it was from one of the first real friends she ever had? It makes sense why the shirt was valued so for Bonnie - why she wore it every night as a pajama shirt (which, according to Marceline, she never, ever seen her wore). And finally we come to Finn, and I'm going to make that a separate post later in the day.Hope you enjoyed my ramblings, and at least learned a thing or two about your favorite character. Oh, and Marceline too.

Adventure Time comic news: March 2019
So the big news this month, as you have probably already heard, is that Season 11 has been cancelled. Ted Anderson has confirmed that #6, which is coming out next week following a two week delay, will be the final issue of the series. #7 has been dropped from all store pages. The extra development time for #6 is presumably so that the series can be wrapped up a little more neatly.
I have some thoughts on the reasons for its cancellation. Ted Anderson specifically cited low sales as the culprit, rather than the quality of the series. Some of this can be attributed to the fact that the show is over so there is now less insterest in following the series. In addition, I can imagine many people lost interest following the fairly generic first arc, which featured time travel as a plot device which has already been overused in the comics. However, the main culprit is piracy. It is insanely easy to find the comics for free online from websites which illegally distribute them in return for ad revenue. This is the way a lot of people read the comics every month:
Despite Boom’s previous assertions that they had big plans for the Adventure Time franchise, the failure of Season 11 has probably thrown a spanner in those works. This should go without saying, but for any chance of more Adventure Time content, people need to BUY the future comics rather than pirating them. The market for comics is fairly small and individual decisions can have large impacts. Encourage people to buy the comics for themselves wherever you see piracy.
Anyway, rant over. Let’s get to this month’s solicitations.
Source: BOOM! Studios comics on sale in June 2019.
Sorry the image quality is so bad. These are directly from Boom’s website, so if anyone knows a higher quality source then please let me know.
The release date of the final issue of Marcy & Simon will be the nineteenth of June, as expected. Since you probably can’t read the blurb from the image, here it is: “Marcy and Simon’s quest to find Simon’s lost love has taken them all through the multiverse, but the terrible truth might be worse than even they can handle.“ It’s nice and vague, unlike some previous solications.
Secondly, we have an official announcement of Party Bash Blues, the new Fionna and Cake graphic novel, which will be coming out on the fourteenth of August. This is slightly sooner than the leaked Amazon listings said. Intriguingly, they are marketing it as Fionna & Cake Vol. 1, perhaps hinting at plans for more graphic novels in the Fionna & Cake line. Personally I’m not a massive fan of the genderswapped universe, but I’m sure some people will be happy if this turns out to be the case. Again, here’s the blurb: “It’s a very special day in the Land of Ooo: Fionna the Human’s birthday! To surprise her, Prince Gumball and Marshall Lee have Cake distract Fionna with an adventure as they prepare the biggest surprise party in history. But when Prince Gumball’s experimental serum turns Fionna’s birthday cake into a monster, everyone must work together to save the Candy Kingdom... and maybe a friendship, too!“ So yeah.
Once again, please please please BUY the new comics rather than pirating them. If Adventure Time is over for good, then this is my last comic news post.
Fingers crossed that I’ll see you next month.
You can view the known release dates for all upcoming comics and graphic novels on the AT Chronology media list.
