I’m replaying final fantasy xiii-2 and it’s so sad seeing how optimistic and earnest the characters are when Lightning Returns exists and you know how it’s going to end. Serah is constantly saying “we’ll save the future and stop Chaos from entering our world” and I’m sorry sweetie but you fail. you fail completely and then you die. Noel becomes so overcome with grief at his failure to save her that he falls into depression for 500 years. Hope dedicates his entire life to his new Cocoon project and names it after the God that ends up torturing him and then possessing his body.

Augusta Tower always gives me the chills, mostly because of the duplicates. We know that all the Academy scientists that were murdered were replaced by a duplicate, and we know that Alyssa has one, but I've been thinking...

Hope must have one too, right? Even if we never get to see it, since the entire incident was covered up, Hope's duplicate would have been leading the development of the Proto fal'Cie and been the Director of the Academy, too. It would've looked and talked like Hope, but like Alyssa's duplicate, would be empty and lifeless. Not to mention really creepy.

And unlike the real Hope, Hope's duplicate wouldn't be humanity's hope. Instead, it would be their downfall. A false hope, if you will.

The paradox ending (non-canon/bad ending/dream of Serah's) from Final Fantasy XIII-2 being very similar to the above scene from Kingdom Hearts II, that came out years before. A.K.A. I think this was a Kingdom Hearts II reference.
