my diy journal archive <3 due to using a filofax i was naturally confronted with archiving my pages and because i couldn't really find an archive binder that's easily accessible enough to not freak me out, i've settled on this diy rings solution.
additionally i ended up taking apart all of the notebooks i had used as journals this year to add their pages to the rings archive as well, because i quite like the idea of everything being in one place.

Im waiting for a new ruler to arrive so i can actually have accurate cuts for my pictures but our postal service is awful at the moment; I’m so annoyed about it in general because i still have things that haven’t been delivered from three weeks ago! 🥹

Mycroft's filofax:
My brother and Dr. Watson are back from Paris, unaware that they will be back there much sooner than probably intended.
I have some very unpleasant news to share, but I will grant them a few days in peace before I instruct John Watson about recent events that unfortunately involve his past.
If you want to be well informed, which I always consider useful, I advise you to read @lisbeth-kk great and detailed story: " Always a soldier " before the account holder torment you once again with edits that involves my brother and Dr. Watson.
I can assure you, that my sources already confirmed such plans to me.
Most likely next week.

PEN GEEKS I NEED HELP
What's a good pen analogous to the the Uni-Ball Signo 207? It's my favorite daily pen: quick drying, easy and smooth gel ink depositing for aching wrist and finger joints, a clicky top (tho I'll take a twisty bottom, just nothing with a cap I can lose on the go), waterproof and archival, perfect slimness for my smallish hands, AND it comes in a .38 Ultra Micro nib which is essential because I write in very small cursive. But it comes with a bulky silicone gripper which doesn't fit in the elastic loop of most planners--including my current bujo shell--at least not without struggle getting it in or out. Not great if I'm taking important notes in front of someone in a hurry (such as doctors)
At some point I am going to replace the current filofax (knockoff) shell and it's inflexible magnetic closure for another filofax knockoff that has an elastic closure around it, so a pen with a clip could just go around the elastic, but the one I want is more expensive than a new pen. Plus, now I get to experiment with new pens!

Filofax a6 personal - archival solution in progress
This cheap pvc folder is commonly found, only holds 3 months of pages because the rings aren’t big. Good for storage for now as I’m exploring larger ring options.

Popped into Rymans for more rings (I cannot walk past a stationery shop). So I’m able to archive my last three years of Filofax inserts.

im sorry youve been feeling so lost lately - your video was very comforting to me as i've been feeling the same way lately, disconnected from my self and my book, and it inspired me to archive all my pages and create a fresh new setup in my filofax. slowly picking up the pieces. hope things get easier for you soon!
im glad (and a bit sad) to know it resonated with you, but happy that it helped you move forward a bit with your filofax. hope things continue smoothly for you in the coming days!

so i ordered a different cover for my filofax bc i scratched the domino soft and it was annoying meeee. Also i wanted a clip closure. anyway. so i got the metropol black cover secondhand super cheap super cool ive ordered a sticker to put on it!! The cover ARRIVED. And the rings are only like 1mm different. but it's enough to bother me. The pages i've got don't roll over like i want them to. so all my current pages are gonna have to be archived. It's fine i'll come back to the domino cover and the empty pages at some point im sure. But this leaves me printing a bloody tonne tomorrow. It's literally fine. Autism will prevail

at the moment my journaling is split between two books (a hardcover book with writing prompts that i bought years ago and repurposed, for everyday recounting and general talk of feelings, and an a5 sketchbook, for commonplacing and miscellaneous writing), and while i'm used to it, lately i've been drawn to journaling in a binder/filofax—something about its archival quality (filing things! being able to move them around! indexing them!) just seems more enjoyable at the moment than simple pen to paper writing

2024 journal archive <3 for the first half of the year i was Locked In fr. in august i briefly switched to a bound A5 midori notebook, but i ended up disassembling it and switched to an A5 ring binder using the midori paper.
somehow for the last couple of months of 2024 i ceased to be a real person and kind of stopped journaling altogether. but i've slightly adjusted my system and ive been returning to journaling👼🏻
more yapping under the cut ⬇️
i only started keeping a journal in 2024 and only switched to rings in March. i took apart all of the notebooks i had used up until that point and added them to the rings archive as well and i love looking at these early pages, because there's so much variety in textures and sizes (something i would never want to recreate, but i love how it happened organically)
once i switched to rings, i had so much fun creating pages that fit my journaling vision specifically. they weren't anything special, but i loved them. here are a couple of pages of the media tracker i used until june!

anyway with time i became overwhelmed by continously having to print pages, also because for some reason i felt like i always had to adjust and enhance my pages, so to avoid that pressure, i switched to the bound midori.
i quickly discovered that i had grown so used to rings, especially the ease with which ephemera etc could be added, that i couldn't stand having to glue stuff in. whatever. so i took the midori notebook apart and used the paper to go back to rings, A5 this time. i really loved it! especially because A5 fits basically everything so i adding ephemera became even easier (and prettier. i'm bad at cutting stuff somehow)
i got some use out of that system, but something shifted and i just stopped journaling basically. i did kind of just stop doing things, but also i've already kind of forgotten the things i Did do, because my memory isn't great and that's the main reason i journal. so i'm a little bummed out, i didnt manage to journal consistently, but i also think it's normal and fine 👼🏻

Title: Trade Descriptions Act Pairing: Ed/Stede Rating: Teen Summary: Ed finds Stede Bonnet's Filofax and tries being Stede Bonnet on for size. It's going okay until he meets the real Stede Bonnet.
A deeply stupid modern take on the "Ed wants to steal Stede's identity" idea. Unbetaed.

Archiving can be tough!! Off the top of my head I know there’s a few options for rings. I’ve seen some people use loose binder rings (they look like circular clasps) to archive, sometimes you can get them where they’re a 3-set like the filofax holes are. (my_life_by_luna on insta is who I’m thinking of who uses these, they seem effective!) ✍️
There’s also a couple options for archiving binders. Filofax makes some of their own, but I’m not overly fond of the prong-style they went with. Franklin Covey makes archive binders for their compact size that also fits Filofax personal, so you’d be able to flip through the pages a bit easier. (Megan Rhiannon has a really great video on these!) 📒
The system I use, the closest that you might get in rings is to buy just the rings (searching “ring binder mechanism replacement” works best) in a size as big as you can get it - 30mm or bigger. With Moterm you can get 2 for around $10! Then you could make cardstock/plastic/etc. covers to protect the pages if desired. ✨
Lots of options! Apologies for the length of the message. 🙇‍♀️ Journaling and memory keeping is one of my favorite things, I know way too much about systems I don’t even use!
Lovely I might eventually go with the 30mm ring option! Will checkout the Franklin and the bloggers you mentioned!
