BJBS DELTARUNE FACT #1!

did you know that filmso was in fact the first character made for this au? That’s right! He was originally going to be the chapter 3 secret boss, but I switched it for the beloved raily roundup.

The only reason why he is still in this au is because I felt so proud of how I designed them, that I made him a in between of a secret boss (and by that, I mean only making him be available in the screenburn route)

Film Genre - Week 10

There’s been some developments! 

Let’s fill you in.

Final Genre Film

So, we jumped ship... onto another ship. We jumped from one ship to another. We changed tack! Bonnie’s idea has been side-lined :( We had a group meeting after the pitch. Egged on by the proof of concept and the reception of the idea, we decided to move onto Cal’s script, Stairwell, for our final film. While I love Bonnie’s story and think it could work really well, I really like the simplicity of Cal’s and think it’s going to be a blast to make. 

I’m SO EXCITED to make the monster sounds!!!! Zoe was showing me, after the sound project crit, how to use pitch shifting in pro tools and man am I gonna abuse this new found power. During the pre-production, while also helping with chasing up locations, I’m going to start creating monster sounds - I’m thinking lots of animal sounds (cat meowling, frogs croaking, dogs growling), foley of celery to make cracking bones, wet materials rubbing off eachother for the skin, all layered (LAYERING) on top of crying. And then the change from crying to true monster will be so much fun, bridging that gap. Sometimes I feel so happy - I’m just out in the city making films with my friends. Also, I think, working on the post-production sound while filming could be really helpful when crafting the movie. I can show the sounds to our monster actor so they know, this is what you sound like - that kind of stuff helps actors right? It was also something highlighted in the SoundWorks video on Dune that Zoe recommended - I’m just like Theo Green! I want to have as much time as possible on these new unique sounds so starting ASAP will help. They also talk about how if the sound is right and adds something new, this can be brought into the visuals. How the actor will move their body and their mouth will be affected by the sounds they’re supposed to be making.

In terms of the whole group progress, Cal and Bonnie have had another pass at the script, incorporating the feedback and also trying to nail down our main themes and emotions. Bonnie’s really been pushing Cal to hone in on his ideas and they’ve come up with some great wee improvements to the script. We’ve also been emailing lots of different places, trying to secure a location. Hit some roadblocks but we’ll keep pushing on this. We have plenty of back-ups but they’re just not quite right and many (some fire exits in multi-storey car parks) are weather dependent :/ 

We’ve started casting: we spoke to Samuel Duner about him playing the scientist - actually, can’t remember if he confirmed or not... Anyways, with his beard and glasses he’ll be great - he’ll just have to dampen his natural charm. We’ve also found the perfect monster:

He may look adorable, but underneath that smile is a psychopathy, the depths of which have yet to be explored. (He listens to the Chainsmokers). This is my flatmate Miguel - we’ve cast him for his bony back (mans got as much body fat as a salad) and shaved head. The bony back is how we’re first going to see the monster: curled up in the corner with its spine almost breaking through the skin.

The shaved head makes applying a bald cap easier too. We did a wee makeup test the other night. Now, keep in mind, this is NOT THE FINAL LOOK!

But yeah, we’re going to try get the eyes smoothed over. But we’ll also whiten the skin, blending it into the face more. I mean, it still looks creepy... but less like an inhuman monster, more like “what’s that creep doing with cotton pads over his eyes?” The bald cap should help as well. Tom’s getting back into his MUA past, it’s interesting to watch.

But yeah, things are going (relatively) smoothly. 

Script

I’m doing some redrafting. Got some notes from some people. More realism! I think this is a problem with a lot of my scripts, I swing too much between stylised jokes and kitchen-sink dialogue? I don’t know, I find it impossible to be analytical with my own writing. Until I read it after a year and think, god, you aren’t saying anything. Hopefully this one will be fine. I’m making it more realistic in the dialogue and smoothing out Kerry’s arc, making it feel more progressive. 

Side Projects

I finished the Tayport Climate Festival edit! The people are happy with it as well - first time getting paid for my work! See, Dad, there is money in filmmaking. I am actually very happy with this - I think I got some nice looking footage and the edit was so much fun. Got my wee artsy bits in there. I also used my new sound knowledge to boost what was some occasionally spotty location recordings. I used a lot of clips from sound libraries and layered them up when there wasn’t any dialogue, letting things feel a lot more natural and slicker as well. Now that I’ve got the all clear, I’m going to do a final pass at the colouring and sound before it’s officially put to rest. 

I’ve been meaning to make more of my wee scripts. There’s some friends from the BFI craft skills course I did who I’ve sent some scripts to, they’re trying to make as many projects as they can. I feel it’ll be good to see how my scripts are adapted without me being involved in the actual production (they’re based in London so would be filming down there). I also, at the start of the semester, had planned on making something on the side with Ben and Mary, but life got in the way of all that. It was a sad lil romantic thing about music - I’d still love to make it. Gonna try start that up again once things have settled down a bit. I do also want to make my coming of age script now. I’ve become quite attached to it.

How would Raily (and by extension the other Secret bosses apart of BJB's Deltarune) react to Snake-Eyes? If you're unfamiliar with them. . .

Snake and Eyes are technically two separate people because I like Systems, deal with it. Eyes is a little guy that is very empathetic, loves meeting new people, is chronologically unlucky, and wants to help in any way they can. Snake on the other hand is very chaotic, believes themself to be a "Judge" that brings judgment to the unworthy, has control over the dead thanks to the Shadow Crystal, and wants to rid the world to the "unworthy" because they may just be a little bit Sadistic. These two are the Secret Boss for one of my many AUs that takes place in the Dark Web and their Light World Object is the Deltarune equivalent to Cupcakes HD, or something worse than that idk. Just something that seems cute and wholesome near the beginning, but then becomes very violent and gory near the end. Hope this description helps and hope you have fun or whatever.

raily would honestly just think that eyes is just giving him pity, and he just would think snake is stupid for believing they are some “judge”. He don’t need judgement, he is a darn sheriff! (Maybe probably nope nvm he isn’t-)

Crazy filmso would honestly try to make the perfect movie with them, so he would just starts blastin.

Bluny, like the latching girl she is, would think eyes is actually interested in her (which isn’t the case, lol). But for snake, she would honestly be charged with horrible crimes if you know what I mean.

tectric would just not give a fuck, he wants to take over the world. So he probably just fight them.

Bobby is an interesting case though, to be honest snake-eyes would just remind him of Susie, more notably her slowly becoming more rude towards others. So I bet he would try to make snake less chaotic, while at the same time try to be friends with eyes. Better hope he doesn’t get pushed into a meat grinder in the process.

Vantablack? Well he would just try to resemble their past of course. It’s his purpose after all

Prediction Bosses

Bitsy - Being a chapter 3 forgotten actor animated purple soul mode secret boss herself, she can definitely relate to Elephanto. Perhaps even more when she realizes that he didn't originally look like that and was so young when he met the "strange someone" and stuff. She'd insist on getting this guy some tea and biscuits so they can chat and bond over animation and video based stuff.

Elymas - Holds their usual superiority complex like they do with everyone. Yet they'd be off put by the way Elephanto can squash and stretch his body. Probabky finds it demonic and likely considers him possessed or something. Tiny bird is whatever holy object they can find and dosing this toon in holy water. I doubt they will like what happens after.

Veratus - I imagine the rat solider is fairly neutral when it comes to Elephanto. Until he learns of the forcing former co-stars to still act with him. I kinda see Veratus seeing that costume as a parasite like the parasitic plants overtaking himself and in a twisted sense of justice trying to "remove" it which may or may not just be him trying to kill Elephanto. ... that probably ain't gonna turn out well for Ver. Also fun fact, in my take of Deltarune, Veratus's weapon, the Royal Rapier, might be a weapon for Asriel. Potentially. Still working it out.

Fool's Fate Bosses

Dorothy - Much like Bitsy, I see Dorothy feeling sympathy for Elephanto. Dorothy was never replaced, not directly, but she was meant as a Christmas present that never got given and some what resents a lot of Broadway's toys now. Especially the more popular Mr. Slinkywriggles. I imagine her sympathy quickly turning to rage as that is her core emotion.

Poly - Poly also became more erratic and insane after meeting the "strange someone" (well, all the secret bosses did), and he was actually also replaced like Elephanto. His cabinet was replaced by Electric Rhythm Empire seemingly out of the blue, with everyone loving Empress, Emperor, and their daughter Ritsu instantly and leaving the little polygonal platformer in the dust. By the time Chicago and the gang found him, he'd lost it trying to recreate his game and having people play it despite Poly himself being so very, very, corrupted. Needless to say, Poly's joining Bitsy and Dorothy at the Elephanto sympathizer/empathizer table.

Casper - Also a technical chapter 3 boss, but this time from the Woody Theory rather than abandoned cartoon camp. I don't think Casper likes Elephanto. Sure they're mostly in the same boat, canceled shows and all, but Casper's dark side is Rattler, who he's afraid off/doesn't recognize half the time. Also the idea of forcing coworkers to still put on the show seems bizarre and not right to the cowboy cat. Perhaps part of that's because Casper can't remember his co-stars as there weren't plushies of them abandoned in Noelle's classroom, but you know.

Noir - Detective Noir would be the only person (asides from the Junior Secret Squad) trying to get down to the bottom of the mystery of Elephanto and his show. Trying to figure out why it suddenly got canceled, piecing together the tragedy of Filmso and the atrocities of the Darkner as Elephanto. It'd be like a true crime mystery to the detective, perhaps even complete with a case of corporate espeanouge and fraud. Would he tell anyone about this? No. Noir would just be in his corner mostly ignoring Elephanto as any actual person at all.
