since chapters 3&4 are approaching, one theory/prediction i really enjoy (thanks to @stunfiskz in particular) is that rouxls' valentine's letter #1 was specifically about lanino and elnina, and in chapter 3 he'll momentarily ditch queen and spend the chapter trying to become their third. aka these cards directly relate to each other:

these cards both had the same rarity (they were notoriously rare and both of their file names have "sssr", "super-super-super rare" in them). all the valentine's cards had this type of a rarity indication in their file name, for example, common ones having "c", rare ones having "r", super rare ones having "sr" etc. additionally, these two cards were the *only* ones with the rank "super-super-super rare". furthermore, all the cards had a serial number in their file names as well and these ones were right after one another (lanino and elnina's is 40 and rouxls' is 41).

besides i just think it would be funny lmao. rouxls' wording indicates that his letter is about more than one person, (it might still be about queen as well, but not *exclusively* her) and i just really find it hysterical that he's asking the question "art they like... single?" about what is for all he knows the most monogamous devoted couple in the history of the dark world. i love the idea of rouxls getting sent their valentine and somehow getting the idea that this is in fact "hotte" and the senders might even be single. (it's the only valentine he was sent this year. obviously.)

also i really love lanino and elnina's potential reaction to rouxls. the fact that they feel the need to emphasize they "exclusively" love each other "and no once else" is absolute gold and really just makes both of these cards come across as 100% funnier if you think of them as relating to each other. lanino and elnina clearly do NOT want a third. and they especially do not want ROUXLS lmao

okay deltarune fandom! i haven’t posted to or gone through these tags in a while, but in light of recent events (me deciding to replay the games just in time for the newsletter), i have some things to share concerning our friends The Weather.

ID in alt text, and aforementioned “things to share” under the cut.

this message tells us some interesting information about the Weather. for those who don’t know, i believe the Weather were first introduced during the spamton sweepstakes under the link https://deltarune.com/weather/. the page functions similarly to lancer’s. despite having no information on these new characters—other than that they’ll probably appear in the next couple chapters, are called “The Weather,” and always stick together—the deltarune fandom immediately latched onto them, because that’s what we do.

and now, after the newsletter? we have names. do we know which name goes to which sprite….? not really. but there’s something interesting about what those names are.

when i first looked at the names Lanino and Elnina, one of my first thoughts was that they sounded gendered. in english and in romance languages, names ending in -o are often thought to be masculine, whereas names ending in -a are interpreted as feminine. not a common name convention in undertale and deltarune, where most names end in constants or “-ee” sounds, and obviously not an absolute rule — for example, chara is not feminine-presenting, but its name still ends in -a. still, many english-speakers, as well as speakers of romance languages and any other similar languages i’m not thinking of, will see “lanino” and “elnina” and assume masculinity and femininity respectively.

at this point, i was still thinking of romance languages because i’m autistic about words, and noticed that the endings of the names are very similar to the spanish words for boy and girl: niño and niña. then i noticed the beginnings of the names, “la” and “el,” are the spanish words for “the.” funny thing, though? “la” is feminine and “él” is masculine.

so… they’re mixing and matching gendered terms!!!? bigender weather real!!!!!! post over!!!!

…except it’s NOT over. put linguistics aside—it’s time for some environmental science.

this graphic (which has an ID in alt text) is a lot of information, so i’m going to break it down: the earth experiences something called El Niño–Southern Oscillation, or ENSO. it’s a climate phenomenon that consists of two main phases: El Niño and La Niña. each one of these phases is a global event that can last years, and leads to changes in wind patterns, sea surface temperatures, and extreme weather events. it affects everything—how dry the land is in certain places, how many fish can be found in the ocean, etc.

to differentiate between the two, most simply: el niño is the warm phase, and la niña is the cooling phase.

why does this matter, you ask? because el niño and la niña climate events are largely inverse and opposites. that’s a simplification, but it does lend us some potential insight into the weather’s devoted and apparently monogamous relationship dynamic. or it would, if they hadn’t mixed up their names… but hey, that’s food for thought too!! could it be that the weather is so devoted to each other that they blended together? maybe that’s why their color palettes are the same—they balance each other out!

either way, i’m quite excited to do battle with them in the next year or so. they’re going to have such fun bullet patterns, i just know it… i hope they heal each other with photorealistic milk. or something weather-related, idk.

Weird Chapter 3 dream

Had a dream last night where chapter 3 had come out. What I remember from it was very weird and not very coherent, so bare with me lol.

Anyway, first interesting thing of not was how many people were in the party. SO MANY. Very long line of people following Kris. I don't remember if Ralsei was with them, but I know Susie was, and maybe Noelle? Spamton ended up joining the party at the very back of the line. Sometimes you could interact with him, but all that would happen was a zoom-in with a more detailed sprite of him. There was one point where he had a tear coming from under his glasses. Poor guy.

At one point someone's fan design for Tenna showed up. Not sure ecatly which one, though.

Sometime after that there was a point where Spamton took off his glasses (he had dot eyes). He later ended up being replaced with Asriel? UnderTale Asriel. Very weird.

Also, in that dream I had a physical copy of JUST chapter 3 that came with some kind of pamphlet with a symbol code at the bottom. No idea what it was supposed to say if anything at all.

There was a part near the end where the game shifted into 3D and I entered a room where the moon-looking one of the Weather Duo (Lanino(?)) was crying. Not sure exactly what was wrong, but they broke out into song Jack Stauber style (sounded like a few of his songs). Before that I had also seen a REALLY well-done art piece on Tumblr (on mobile, despite the fact I used desktop 99.9% of the time) of Lanino(?) angerly looking at a statue of Elnina(?).

Very weird dream, to say the least.

Character Lineup for My Deltarune Chapter 3 Take

NEW LIGHTNERS: Toriel: In the dark world, she is a powerful pyromancer! This is a first in a long time since she’s done anything engaging with Kris. She’s had her concerns about Kris for a while now, but this also feels like a great opportunity for her to understand her child. Will she take it?

Undyne: In the dark word, she’s now an ace detective! Just had her whole worldview flipped on her head and is loving it. But she’s still on her own investigation into who slashed the tires and caused this anomaly. Anyone who gets in her way will be beaten with a huge magnifying glass.

Napstablook: The Dr. Watson to Undyne’s Sherlock Holmes. Somehow, they got roped into helping Undyne investigate Toriel’s slashed tires. Now they’re just here for emotional support. Wait, is that mustache real?

NEW DARKNERS: Chairiel: She runs a cozy little shop in the sprawling desert of Dreamy Drylands. Anyone who enters her shop is greeted with a great big hug. She’s also got plenty of stories to tell!

Tenna: The shady director of Cathode Entertainment and the mayor of Back Stage City. He wasn’t always super mean and bossy, but nobody can figure out why he changed his ways.

C. Rook: The new producer and the head honcho of all the Shadowmen. He may or may not be the actual one responsible for why Cathode Entertainment has been turned upside down.

Lil’ Cutie Pie Once a beloved kids show star, she was forced to change jobs by Tenna to become a full-time chef. Her mood flips between cheerful to hateful constantly, and its got others wondering if her cutesy demeanor is all a facade.

Weather Duo: Always Sunny and Partly Cloudy have always been passionate about reporting the news and for each other. Ever since the recent changes, they’re no longer allowed to show their love when they work together. Maybe with some Lightner intervention, they can be a true couple again!

Mike: The loudmouthed ex-producer of Cathode Entertainment who’s currently on the run. He was once best friends with Tenna, but now is currently investigating into his sudden change in demeanor.

The Scareiff: He was once the star of his own show until someone, thought to have been a fan of his, got too close to him. When him and his show started going downhill, he was swiftly booted from the crew and his show was cancelled. Nobody knows where he is now, but it must be somewhere out in that desert.

so between these two snippets we've gotten of the weathers i definitely think that they may be mirrors of the dreemurr parents and that at least one of them has an asgorudy situation going on with another darkner (possibly one from ch4? holiday-themed?). and i think this especially makes sense with them being in a tv-show world – of course their relationship with one another is performative and over-the-top. they're actors.
