He has managed to win four Emmy awards and three Grammys that shows his talent and dedication towards his profession. Dave as he is popularly as among his fans took his professional life quite seriously after reevaluating his life. He even used to seek his son Ibrahim’s help if a particular show failed to meet his set standards or impress the audience. He considers himself to be lucky to enjoy his son’s strong support.
Interesting facts to know
Ibrahim’s father is David Chappell and mother is Elaine endoza. They got married in 2001 and Ibrahim Chappelle is their second child. The couple have three children. She is presently teenager and in high school. Ibrahim’s exact birthday is not disclosed. However, he is in high school and also a teenager.
Ibrahim is considered to be a die-hard Kevin Hart fan. Due to his successful comedian father, he has managed to come across several Hollywood celebrities from the entertainment industry. He adores Kevin Hart a lot. He had requested hid dad to give him $250 to watch one of Kevin Hart’s show. Dave has a strong bond with his son and hence, does not feel jealous even if his son wants to enjoy the show of his competitor. Dave even took him backstage enabling him to meet his grand idol in person.
Chappelle is of African-American enthniticy, while Elaine is Filipino. He was born in Ohio State’s Yellow Springs region. Although he is an American national, he is of mixed ethnicity. Belonging to a celebrity biracial family, he has imbibed both the cultures of his parents.

Upon coming out, he realised the reaction was much more positive and supportive than he expected and Brennan is happy to be “finally living my life as who I am meant to be, not just existing.” His experiences and the lack of role models have driven him to come out publicly and speak of his experiences to help fill that void himself.

Lmao I’m Filipino-American! XD But like most people born in the US who come from families outside of it, I have an identity crisis about it. I don’t speak much Tagalog, but I can understand it as long as it’s conversational/simple. I don’t know a lot of the traditions/culture, but I grew up in a Filipino household and absorbed a lot of the little things from it. It’s why I don’t talk much about my ethnicity, but I still put it on my AO3/Twitter/Instagram bios.
Because for some reason, when filipinos think they see another filipino, they go:
😂😂😂
I'm surprised to see a fellow Filipino here in tumblr. BTW. I really love your work. It's been forever finding dad for one stuffs and I'm glad to discover you here 💖
Thank you <3 I’m really glad you enjoy my stuff fellow kababayan aha. Yeah, it’s hard to find fellow Filipinos in tumblr. It’s rare but they are always lurking :D
#ronan muses#🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣#its a filipino thing some of you guys might not get it hahahaha!!!#if you wanna maybe try and get to know what filipinos are like maybe watch jokoy on netflix?#he’s a filipino-american comedian who’s half-white half-filipino and his jokes are mostly about filipino culture#and its so funny bc its fucking relateable and true even tho its goddamn ridiculous hahahaha!#he’s got two comedy specials on netflix and one newer special that mostly about him celebrating filipino culture#i was a little confused when he put that out cause i was expecting a comedy#it was still nice tho. nice to see him going back to his roots and celebrating it#that special’s the reason why i added my ethnicity to my bios lol#cause i should be proud of it regardless of whether i feel like an imposter or not#he’s fucking hilarious tho now i wanna watch his stand-ups again

The last time you washed your hair, did you use conditioner? Yeah, I’m pretty paranoid and always feel the need to use conditioner because of a bad rebonding job from like a decade ago that stiffened up my hair as soon as it would get wet. It lasted for around a year, so I formed the habit of always using conditioner every time I shower. I don’t think I’ve ever used just shampoo since then.
Do you prefer light or dark jeans? Dark, but I suppose it would be nice to start experimenting with lighter shades as well.
When you listen to music, do you generally sing along, or just listen? It depends if I know the lyrics or I’m feeling the song at the moment. Obviously with my new obsession with BTS I can’t really sing along to entire songs, but I do sing the few English lyrics they have per song, hahaha.
Do you have any of your exes as friends on Facebook? Yeah but she’s been muted for like half a year already, as is the rest of her family. I do have plans to unfriend her entirely; I’m just not sure when I would push through with it, and I already gave Angela permission to log onto my account one of these days to be the one to do the unfriending.
Who was your first love? Do you ever miss that person? Gabie. I miss the friendship sometimes; I don’t think I’ll have a friendship as deep and connected as the one we had, so I will always feel sorry about how that went to waste. But I don’t really think about our relationship anymore as I’m pretty good at blocking off certain memories, so I don’t miss her in that sense.
How many cars are parked at your house right now? Two.
Do you have any Italian ancestry? I highly doubt so. If anything there’s probably a tiny drop Spanish blood in there but that’s the most European I’ll ever get.
Do you prefer water to be ice cold or at room temperature? Like, drinking water? Ice cold, always. I hate warm water.
Has anyone ever told you you’re a control freak? Not to my face, but I know I’m one so I’m sure other people have said that about me at least behind my back.
Do you know anyone who has gone missing? If so, were they ever found? Yes, my friend Mik and one of my aunts. They were both found eventually.
What was the spiciest thing you’ve ever eaten? Eating ghost pepper instant noodles was a pain I would never want to go through again...I threw that shit out after my first forkful, lmao.
Do you need to talk to someone? No, not in particular. In a more general sense I do wanna start gaining more friends though, so I’ve been meaning to expand my circle by creating a new Twitter account just for my BTS dump. In other words, I am a 23 year old with a stan Twitter HAHAHAHA
Is something confusing you at the moment? No, I’m good.
When was the last time you had a real deep chat? Maybe my conversation with Andi a couple of nights back. We were talking about a tricky situation with their ex-friend who turned out to be a real dick when they came out to him a year ago, and they just wanted to get my perspective on how I would handle it.
Who did you last see on webcam? The PR manager for one of our clients, who we all despise because he doesn’t know how to do his job. Thankfully he’s resigning soon so we’re all just waiting for him to leave and finally meet a much more competent replacement.
What’s your best friend’s pet’s name(s)? Angela has two dogs, Hailey and Kennedy. Andi had Apollo, who I wanted to meet so badly but sadly he passed away a week ago at 15.
Have you ever taken a picture while laying in the grass? There are photos of me sitting on grass, but not lying in it. I would imagine that would feel very prickly and uncomfortable.
Who’s your favorite Disney character? Baymax or Flynn Rider.
Have you ever deliberately tried to get someone drunk? I’ve made my friends chug drinks or down shots and it’s happened vice versa, but it was always in good fun and we never made each other harassed from it. It’s just your typical college rambunctiousness, and if anyone felt uncomfortable or iffy then we didn’t hesitate to move on.
When was the last time you used a pay phone and who were you calling? I’ve only ever seen those in my first school, when I was in kindergarten. I never got to use it and they also took them out not long after.
Do you like being kissed on the neck? Yessssssssss
Have you ever had sex with someone you weren’t dating (but had feelings for) in the hopes that they would ask you out later? Nope. I don’t think I would have sex with anyone I wasn’t dating.
What’s the most you would be willing to spend on a good bra? Probably a couple thousand bucks if I thought I looked good in it.
Do you have any of your teachers’ personal cell phone numbers saved in your contacts list? I don’t think so. I never tried getting close with any of them, and I always tried to stay hidden as much as possible. I was just in class to get good grades and pass.
Do you ever stalk peoples’ personal blogs, even if you don’t know them very well? I never really scroll through people’s Tumblrs anymore. That was more of a thing I did in like 2013, but these days going through my dashboard is enough.
What’s one thing about today’s generation that you just can’t stand? Some social media trends done for clout make me revolted, especially when it has anything to do with wasting food. I also hate when they do extreme pranks that I know I wouldn’t find funny if I were ever the victim, like tossing someone’s phone into the ocean.
Be honest: how do you feel about abortion? Pro-choice.
Is there anyone you currently want to reach out to? I would love to catch up with Katreen at some point, but I know we’re at different points in our lives now and it would probably never happen.
What is your favorite piece of art you own? I commissioned my sister to make an artwork of the 2D1N cast, and she did a great job making it! I haven’t gotten to use it or promote it yet, but I will soon. It’s really well-done.
What’s the one thing you apologized for this month? Replying late.
My favorite color is ______? Pastel pink.
I wish I had _____? Longer weekends.
What did you buy today? Nothing – I’d call that a success lmao, I’ve been spending money as if I had a million fucking bucks over the last week. I did have some packages arrive today though: my own copy of 2 Cool 4 Skool (my first physical BTS album!!!!!!); the official poster from their album BE; the Ivy Park sneakers I ordered earlier this month, and an Ivy Park bucket hat Bea had apparently gotten for me as a birthday present.
What has challenged your morals? Vices.
What made you pick up the last book you started reading? I had to read it in preparation for a one-on-one session with my employer’s CEO.
What about your life concerns you the most? Whether a stable future is in the cards for me.
What do you find particularly offensive? Would you say you’re easy or difficult to offend? Probably Filipino-American comedians or influencers who use stereotyping of Filipino accents and habits as a punchline; they do more harm to the culture than good. I can tell you not one Filipino who lives in the Philippines actually finds those funny, and Bretman Rock is probably the only personality who’s able to flaunt the culture in an entertaining and hilarious yet classy way.
When it comes to being offended, I guess it depends on the context. My humor can get pretty dark and low-blowy, but I would have a problem with someone who I know has genuinely problematic views.
What was the last series you finished watching? Do you have any plans to begin another? I think it may had still been Start-Up from last December. I’m not too big on Korean dramas since I find one episode waaaaaaayyyyyyy too long. I don’t think I’ll be starting on anything soon, Korean or otherwise.
What is one way in which you are different from a year ago? What is one way in which you are still the same? I’m single now, for the first time in technically six years. I also think I’m doing better and happier, breakup notwithstanding. OH and I love wasabi now, hahah. As for what’s unchanged, I still like taking surveys and I’m still stuck at home, though the latter’s not really in my control anymore.
If you could learn about anything without the stress of grades or cost, what kind of classes would you take? I’d just go back to UP for the free tuition. We also have the widest range of programs out of any university in the country, so it’s a damn good deal.
Name a song you’ve listened to today? Fly To My Room - BTS
When you were younger, did you have a swing set or a playhouse in your backyard? We didn’t; but one of our relatives that we’d regularly visit did have a playground that I’d use all the time. It’s still there, just very unmaintained since no one uses it anymore.
Is your mall nice? Which one? We have five different malls nearby lol. Mall culture here is on another level.
Do you have a Sonic near you? If so, what’s your favorite drink from there? No. I’m not so sure what they serve there, either. I’m guessing milkshakes?
Will you be voting in the presidential elections next time around? I’ll always exercise my right to vote.
How do you feel about chocolate-covered strawberries? I hate strawberries and I hate fruits, so even if you coat that shit in Nutella and cookie butter and chocolate syrup I still wouldn’t touch it.
Did you ever stop having feelings for someone and then started having those feelings again for them? No.
Do you hate the last guy you had a thing with? I’ve never had a thing with guys.
To whom did you last give the finger? I haven’t had to do that in a while.
What was the last musical instrument played in your presence? My sister’s keyboard.
Do you like sprinkles on your ice cream? Not particularly. They make things look cute, but they never taste like anything tbh so I never saw the point in paying extra just to have them on my desserts.
Honestly, have you ever crashed a party before? Nah. I cringe thinking about that.
Do you know how to do the moon walk? I don’t.
Has anybody ever told you that you have a good singing voice? Never gotten that specific compliment before because I know I don’t have one.
Onion rings or french fries? Onion rings.
Has anybody ever described you as a heart breaker? No.
Has anybody ever told you that you talk too fast? I don’t think so, but I know I have the tendency to do so occasionally, especially while I’m presenting a deck. Once I notice it I make an effort to pace myself.
Who is the best cook that you know? My dad and both my grandmas all deserve that title.
Which meal throughout the day do you skip the most? I literally never have lunch ever.
What’s the largest amount that you can juggle at one time? I can’t juggle.
What was your favorite thing to go on at the playground as a kid? Sandboxes, since I liked the texture; the sandboxes in school were also often empty, which worked well for my introvert self. I find that it’s carried over to today, since I still enjoy touching things like slime and kinetic sand.
Do you know how much you weighed at birth? How much? I think 5 or 6 lbs, I’m not exactly sure but it’s definitely somewhere in that small range.
Which aspect of your daily routine takes the most time? What do you do? Work, for sure. I work a normal 9–6 so that’s already 8 hours out of my day, but I also OT a lot after hours, and I work throughout my lunch break as well so that technically makes it 9 hours. I also like getting up earlier and starting some work before my shift so that I would have less tasks on my plate for the day.
Do you enjoy buying gifts for others, or could you do without this? I LOVE getting people gifts. Food is especially my love language, and I always get food delivery for my friends, family, and my team at work.
What is one thing you are expected to do, if anything? I mean, I have work deadlines tomorrow so there’s that.
How do you tend to view driving? Monotonous or entertaining? I love driving. I don’t think I ever complained about having to do it. It’s calming and relaxing when I’m doing it alone or with a partner; and it can be entertaining with the right set of people.
Do you enjoy talking about music with others? Not always. If I don’t listen to the artist then I can find the conversation quite boring, like if my friends would get into a full-blown discussion about Taylor Swift.
Is acting something you enjoy? No. It wouldn’t even be something I’d be interested in doing.
When do you feel most accomplished? Finishing a work day with no tasks left behind.
Do you think Manwich is amazing or completely gross? Idk what that is.
How many best friends do you have? Two.
Are you a smoker, drinker, pothead or none of the above? I drink sometimes. I also kinda smoke, I guess.
If you have your ears pierced, when did you get them pierced? My mom had them pierced when I was a month old.
Do you own any exercise machines? My mom has this rowing equipment thingy. I don’t have any of my own, though.
On Facebook, do you have people listed as your siblings who aren’t really your siblings? No.
Have you ever drawn or painted a self-portrait? I remember having to draw one as a school assignment, but I’m pretty sure I half-assed that because I couldn’t care less for art class back then.
Who was your last voicemail from? We don’t have voicemails.
Have you ever been falsely accused of something serious? I don’t think so. That’s the sort of situation that would stick out in my memory if ever.
Did you ever set up a lemonade stand when you were a kid? No, not a thing here.
When was the last time you spoke to someone in a different language? Around an hour ago when I went downstairs and chatted with my sister briefly.
Have you ever received an anonymous gift? Nope.
Have you ever camped out somewhere for an event the next day? Nope but I definitely still wouldn’t be opposed to doing that haha.
When were you the saddest in your life? 2016 was fucking miserable. < I’d have to agree. 2017 was also awful.
Do you know anyone, personally, who is in an abusive relationship? Are you? I used to know one but she got out of it. In a sense, I suppose I also was in one.
If you have siblings, have they moved out or do they still live with you? Well they’re younger, so they definitely still live here, with our parents. I’m the first one expected to move out, but I’m taking my time.
Have you ever gotten searched by the cops? No.
Do you like fried rice? Of course. I like any kind of rice.
What was the last thing you drank? Water.

genuinely “woke” vs clamor for sociopolitical clout and relevance
tfw the person has good intention (which we do appreciate) but, in the process, relatively insinuates himself/herself as being “woke” and concern about the social issues but it came out sounding pretentious?
That’s how I see and feel about this tweet. Yes, I know. She's only responsible for what she tweets, not for how I interpret it.
This isn’t the first time I’ve seen posts/tweets/comments with the same, you know—underlying pretentious tone. But really, there are blatant ones which you can tell at glance.
Kim chiu is another story. It’s not that she would like to appear “woke” to her supporters (at least that intention is not salient). I would rather call it a case of careless naivety and a lack of sociopolitical literacy. “Bawal Lumabas” thing is amusing the first time. For what it’s worth, equally sociopolitical illiterates and politically immature and foul-mouthed pro-admin peeps let it get into their head, and now they believed that they can just counter every sound arguments made by the opposition and their supporters with it. Never mind having cultured and non-aggressive discourse and laying out logical points, as always.
Oh, no. I’m not invested on Jo Koy enough to come to his defense (if that’s what you’re thinking), though I’ve seen one clip of his show. Yes, he is a stand-up comedian, popular in the entertainment industry, and for that, he has made an influential platform but AND remain mum on [Philippine] social issues.
Again, a stand-up comedian. That’s what he signed up for. Did he claim he is a proactive influencer? It’s his (honestly, anybody's) choice whether he does or does not want to speak up about it.
And if he released it on June 12 (Philippine Independence Day), what then? Would things change if he released it on a later date?
Other local personalities are also getting the same criticism. What’s the deal, really? Why do people feel the need to drag others in such an unnecessary way?
While I do agree that some people, indeed, find entertainment and “bank on shallow Filipino pride” (much like the cod and superfluous reaction videos of foreigners about undeniably talented Filipino artists and the like that we just can't seem to stop ourselves from watching because, to some degree, it strokes our boner for anything Filipino) and that some people, mostly those born, grew up, and living abroad with a minuscule percentage of Filipino blood running in their veins are only Filipino whenever it’s convenient for them, another part of me thinks that that has nothing to do with whether Jo Koy choose to be sociopolitically involved or not.
If a public figure (or even an influencer-kuno) choose to speak up because he personally thinks that he can help by such small act, that’s good. If not, that’s fine too. If a person abstains from voting during the election, it does not necessarily mean that he is leaning to pro-administration (regardless if it's the majority). It could be a sense of hopelessness on the people running as candidate for a respective government position that's holding him back, and I think we can’t blame the person for feeling that way. With the way our government constantly proves that politics is dirty and the people seated are a bunch of jesters every single day, no wonder this non-participative person becomes apathetic and demoralized.
Sabi nga ni Direk Antoinette Jadaone: "An everyday struggle: read the news and plant anger in your heart, or avoid news at all but be an apathetic Filipino."
It’s okay to voice out our sociopolitical concerns. It’s okay to educate the mass. It’s okay to influence the mass to join in our dissent for a good cause; It’s okay to inform them what they can do to help; to tell them why we do what we do and why we fight for these things. And it’s okay if they refuse to be an ally, choose to preserve their beliefs, or be indifferent about these issues.
What’s not okay is imposing our beliefs to another person. What’s not’s okay is equating being neutral and/or staying away from politics to being ignorant, having no sense of active citizenship, or simply assuming that this non-participative person (i’m talking in a general sense), deliberate or not, brought by personal circumstances or not, a consequence of their upbringing or not, is living under privileges. what's not okay is vilifying people for prioritizing their mental health and other personal issues over national or world issues. what’s not okay is dictating people to be politically involved and share our political sentiments and aspirations; chiding them for doing this and that, or the other way around; ordering them how to make use of their craft, platform, and whatnot (well, maybe, except if they’re making questionable behavior, actions, decisions, content, etc.); or worse, lecturing them how to live their life.
After all, a person’s not “dilawan” just because he is against the Duterte regime.
I think it would be much better if people willingly put themselves out there and speak up about more pressing issues out of true empathy—that they, themselves, truly see the need for them to be an instrument to mobilize these sociopolitical movements because they can see why the way the government run things does not sit well with their fellow countrymen.
P.S. I haven't watched any of Jo Koy's episodes). For more contextual understanding, do elucidate me. Did Jo Koy, in any instance, satirized the current issues in the Philippines in such a way that puts the Philippine government in a generally favorable light? If yes, then that's fcked up, and maybe, just maybe, I can understand where OP is coming from.

With the existence of heroes’ portrayals and history drama in the Philippine Cinema, the 2015 biopic film ‘Heneral Luna’ offers another perspective for the Filipino film industry. The film tries to capture the eyes of the youth by picking it as its target market; and as a matter of fact, in cinemas nationwide there is an available discount for students. Fortunately, I am one of those students who were able to watch it on big screen. Undoubtingly, this film has so many to offer and I am truly moved by the film. It is indeed a game changer to the world of our cinema and allow me to tell you how and what I thought about the film.
The film is a detailed account of the life of one of our revolutionary heroes during the American period namely Gen. Antonio Luna. It tells a story which is a part of our history we care less, something that we don’t usually learn at school. The film opens by claiming that it is fiction based on facts which I think is one way of pulling more modern viewers. It is framed around a series of interviews granted by Luna to Joven Hernando played by Arron Villaflor, a fictional newspaper journalist. Threaded into the narrative, these lively conversations provide viewers with valuable insights into the general’s personality and assist greatly with the transitions as the viewers keep track of the story’s bulging inventory of characters and events. After 333 years of Spanish colonization, the Philippine archipelago was sold for $20 million to U.S. The dilemma is now to decide how to respond with the Americans arrival under the government leaded by President Emilio Aguinaldo played by Mon Confiado and Prime Minister Apolinario Mabini played by Epy Quizon together with the Gen. Antonio Luna played by John Arcilla, is it to negotiate or fight? Clearly, the film told us that Heneral Luna’s proposition which is to strengthen the military force and fight is different from the majority of the key players of the government who is driven by each personal’s interest who wanted to accept the Americans’ domination without a fight. With this altercations, Luna being portrayed as a fiercely straight-talking patriotic general who had a temper as passionate as his feelings to the country made his own enemies inside the congress. While they are discussing inside the congress, a messenger came with the news that the Americans shot the soldiers scouting Sta. Mesa district and also terrorizing other parts of the country as well. The president then gave his go signal to Gen. Luna to take action. However, more conflict arises between Luna and other major players of the country. First, Captain Pedro Janolino played by Ketchup Eusebio who is dragged outside the hut while sleeping with a naked woman and humiliated in front of his soldiers after refusing Luna’s orders. Under the war, the bureau individuals were all engaged into discussing about reconciling to America which flamed the anger of Luna commanding the arrests of the members of the congress, Felipe Buencamino played by Nonie Buencamino and Gen. Tomas Mascardo played by Lorenz Martinez. President Aguinaldo knew that the members are getting fed up of Luna’s attitude but then let it pass. After the battles with his co-Filipino, we are able to meet Heneral Luna as a leader, with his interactions with his men, a soldier as how he fights under war, a son as his mother Dońa Laureana Luna y Novicio do tell his past, a brother, a lover with his affair in the name of Isabel played by Mylene Dizon and as a man. Then goes the climax, General Luna was summoned by a telegram written under the name of the President asking him to appear in Cabanatuan. He was welcome by mere silence and a few soldiers. At the office he saw Felipe Buencamino who told him that the president left long before he arrived. Heneral Luna was ambushed, fired and stabbed to death. The film ends with the sides stories of other characters making the death of Luna left unanswered.
Creating a film with this kind of theme is something courageous because it is risky thing to delve the past since Philippine history had always been complicated. Personally, I am not into watching history-themed Filipino films because I feel like there will always be biases and sugarcoating techniques to produce a commercially made film with lots of profit. But Heneral Luna is an exception for me. The film was able to create a not hero type of protagonist but instead send us a message. From the protagonist’s line “Bayan o Sarili! Pumili ka?”, the movie gives us the story that the Filipinos main enemy were not Americans but themselves. It does not romanticize the character of Luna, the film showed that Luna’s rage sometimes is out of his control. As I watch the film, I could feel the anger and disappointment by Heneral Luna which I believe proves its efficiency to deliver its message. Undoubtingly, one could really point out the amazing performance of John Arcilla. The first time I saw the movie poster I am really excited to see how John Arcilla will portray his role because the poster is really intriguing and he really looks like Heneral Luna. He was able to bring to life the fierceness, fearlessness and devotion of Heneral Luna which looks really genuine. Though it was Arcilla who really stand up in the film, the supporting characters also deserved the praise which made the film more convincing. Heneral Luna’s supporting military men including Gen. Jose Alejandrino (Alvin Anson), Col. Francisco Roman (Joem Bascon), Capt. Jose Bernal (Alex Medina) and of Lt. Rusca (Archie Alemania) who deliver their roles commendably. On the opposite side of things, Ketchup Eusebio nails his portrayal of Capt. Pedro Janolino, who played as a young general with full hatred to Luna and one of those who led the killing of Luna. Mon Confiado and Epy Quizon also brings the best as Emilio Aguinaldo and Apolinario Mabini. It is amazing how these known comedians was able to engaged themselves into dramatic roles like that. Lastly, Mylene Dizon, a fictional representation under the name of Isabel, a Red Cross Worker was able to show her skills given the small screening time.
Heneral Luna is one of the most audacious film I have watched mixed with the perfect vision of its film makers. It is a kind of film that deserves the applause. From the beginning up to the end there is something to be praised and averse. The beginning of the film with those short subtitles written in English gives us a hint that they wanted to enter the film into international field. It also announced that it is fiction based on facts which gives more questions to the viewers. I love how the film unfolds every narration through the effective transitions and flashbacks. The cinematography and direction is also a thumbs up for me. The images had wonderful and innovative effects, colors and angles which is shown on the series of flashbacks especially during Rizal’s execution. I would also like to acknowledge the scriptwriters for creating such remarkable storyline with smooth pacing and rasping and poetic dialogues. It is notable how they consistently put together different layers of events to achieve a much engaging story. One thing to notice as well is how they were able to put into timing the comic and humorous factor of the film which became an integral part of the film as well. Also the beautifully written dialogues with cuss words doesn’t sound so corny as the characters mouthed it. There are just scenes I found a little lame in the film, those were the screen times for American’s conversations because the characters were not the appealing for me. But overall it was still carried out because there were just few scenes. At the end of the film we could hint for a trilogy, there was an extra scene in the middle of the closing credits, suggesting a next film featuring Paulo Avelino as Gen. Gregorio del Pilar which has been showed this year. There was also a brief cameo appearance of Benjamin Alves as a young Manuel L. Quezon, hinting at a possible trilogy. This is a very exciting plan indeed which we all hope will materialize given the success of "Heneral Luna" and only international films like Marvel series only which adds another first time for the film.
I really admired the film at its finest. More than the things I mentioned above I like about the film, it taught us lessons to ponder. Ultimately, the portrayal of this tragedy has spurred so many emotions and so many questions. It does not only give life to history but it is telling us the present issues we have in our country. Today the Philippines is facing so many problems in our economy, education, politics and still too many to mention. I could say that the problems of the past were never resolved. Are we really independent? Are we really free from colonization? The film taught us that the Filipinos are the enemy of themselves, people driven by personal interest and those who can’t sacrifice for the betterment of his/her nation. Do you think this people don’t exist at the present? Or do you think they are the one leading this slow moving country? Leadership like what we discussed at University and I, comes with many styles and theories and therefore different to each person. In line with Heneral Luna, he’s kind of leadership maybe harsh because of being authoritarian but this is what the country needs during those times. We must always keep in mind that leadership never worked unless there is an exchange of the force of his followers. The main lesson we could adhere in the film is to keep ourselves inform with the issues of the country and do our job as its citizens. The revolution is still happening right now. Our current situation is no different from that what it had experienced during the era of the Philippine-American war and we should do our part like what our heroes did before. Ignorance should not be tolerated and let us do our part as leader or as a follower.
This kind of film is what Filipinos must and would want to see. Like what I mentioned earlier its target market are the youth and modern viewers. They even use social media as a way of promoting this film. However, as I watched the film this is a movie for all. I recommend every Filipino to watch the film because it is worth the time and money. If you wanted to watch something that is really substantial and entertaining well this is the movie you are looking for. Or if you are tired of Filipino cliché made film, try changing your genre and explore our unrated films and watch Heneral Luna. In wrapping up, I really liked the film. With a rating over ten, I will give a nine to it and it is truly recommended.

Some random stuff that happened so far during my Alaska trip (side note, this is why I haven’t really been posting on Tumblr, all my recent posts are queued):
1) While walking around Hannes, some kid ran up to me and shouted, “Tag you’re it!” and then ran off. All I could say was, “Guess I’m it?”
2) A rather loud Filipino family was late to the bus and held everyone up. Several passengers got mad. I just tuned everyone out with my music.
3) There’s a lounge singer on the ship who sounds exactly like Shawn Mendes.
4) Me and my sister have a running joke about the 24-hour panini cafe. Every time we go, we quote Tom Haverford. “And then my hand got caught in the panini press and *crying sounds*”.
5) I was listening in on this gay couple’s story and they were talking about how they kept getting mistaken for brothers during the trip. Especially with the Alaskan shopkeepers.
6) I’ve seen “Incredibles 2” way too many times. It’s like the one animated movie they show every night.
7) There’s an old couple who I sometimes see slow dancing when the strings quartet are playing on the ship.
8. I got a massage and the lady recommended me a $300+ massage follow-up deal afterwards.
9) The stand-up comedian on the ship kept getting heckled by some gen-z teenagers in the crowd. It was all in good fun though.
10) I learned that Alaskans call the other states the “lower 48”. Also, I learned that Alaskan middle schoolers have an end of the year exam where they’re taken to a deserted island and told to survive for a few days. True story.
11) The library is my favorite spot on the ship. Currently reading through 3 books. One’s a shitty sci-fi novel, the other is a shitty thriller, and the last is a pretty good erotic thriller. I swear, I’m not just reading it for the sex, it’s actually a good story.
12) I chugged a cup of cinnamon-ginger tea. Burned my throat completely. An old couple told me that drinking it was like downing some Fireball whiskey.
13) I kept getting approached because I was wearing Cal gear. Lots of proud parents of Cal graduates. On the other hand, I befriended this guy at the bald eagle foundation who said he was a UC Davis student doing an internship in Alaska. Cool dude, hope he’s having fun with his internship.
