a/n: hi tumblr hi fellow spencer reid stans hiiii! i think about this man so much in my head it was time to get him out of my notes app and onto a blog. inbox is open, let’s chat. all feedback welcome just pls be nice! enjoy!
~
“Spencer, be more helpful,” you beg as you stuff your toothpaste into an almost-full toiletry bag while frantically looking for your chapstick.
“I told you this was going to happen,” he says with a huff of resignation. He begins to fold the tiny, but mighty (i.e., messy) pile of clothes on your bed, organizing them neatly in your duffle bag.
To be fair, he was right. To also be fair, it had been a long week at the office, working through a stack of files that seemed never-ending. The days were long as they always were, and you had already fallen behind on quite a few household tasks, a rare habit of yours that was particularly prominent during weeks like these. Packing for your girls’ weekend had been the last thing on your mind.
Now here you were with a flight that was sure to leave without you if you didn’t kick it into high gear, and a somehow always right Spencer Reid ready to drive you to the airport, and you couldn’t find your damn chapstick.
“Well, if you knew this was going to happen you should have come even earlier.”
You make your way from your bathroom to your bedroom and toss your toiletry bag on the bed, nearly missing Spencer’s arm as he folds the last of your jeans. He chuckles at your remark before tucking the see-through bag neatly into the duffle.
“You know, I could have not offered my automobile services to you. I could have let you perish on the side of the road,” he teases.
You roll your eyes as you rummage through the drawers of your bedside table. Where the fuck did you put your chapstick?
“You’ve packed so many go-bags, you’d think you’d have this down by now,” he continues.
“My go-bag!”
You rush to the living room, targeting another one of the (too many) duffle bags you own on the couch. Most of its contents had been emptied into your laundry basket or returned to their rightful places except a few, and you race back to your room with your chapstick proudly brandished. Spencer shakes his head in amusement.
“How long will you be gone?” he asks, gently taking the tube from your fingers and securing it inside the front pocket of the bag, now zipped up and ready to board.
“Just the weekend,” you smile, already feeling your shoulders ease as the breath finds your lungs easier. You hated rushing. “I haven’t been back to Michigan in almost a year.”
His brow furrows. “We had a case there last month.”
“Yeah but, you know what I mean. I want to see my friends and visit the museums and enjoy the food, not profile a psycho.”
You grab your bag and start to sling it over your shoulder as you make your way to the front door. Spencer trails behind you, reaching for the strap before you can secure it and placing it over his own shoulder.
“We haven’t had a full weekend off in a while,” he says, and is that the faintest twinge of disappointment in his voice? “I didn’t know you were going to be out of town.”
You glance over at him, letting your eyes wander for a moment. Spencer on the weekends was a rare sight. His hair was extra fluffy; he’d had time to truly wash it in the shower instead of the rushed mornings you were used to when working a case. He was wearing his favorite cardigan that he never traveled with, the bottom two buttons left undone and the light brown of the wool bringing out the even lighter specks of brown in his eyes.
Of course, there was your favorite part: Those damn, adorable glasses that made their appearance once in a blue moon and almost exclusively on weekends when he felt too lazy to put in his contacts. Spencer on the weekends was all soft smiles and gentle laughs and, quite frankly, he was an absolute joy to be around.
You internally echo his disappointment that you’ll be a plane ride away instead of here with him, enjoying a new book store he’d found or convincing him to go window shopping with you.
You stop yourself before letting this daydream become too enticing. You could spend a million weekends with Spencer and never get bored, but you did miss your hometown, and your friends. You had a plane to catch.
“Sounds like someone already misses me,” you joke, returning your gaze ahead of you and grabbing your keys from the kitchen counter. “We see each other nearly every hour of every day. I honestly thought the sight of me repulsed you.”
“What? Of course not! I don’t find you repulsing. I was just…“ he begins to trail off ever so slightly, and there it is again. That tempting bubble of a daydream and what the weekend could have been starts creeping back into your apartment. You’d probably do anything to please Spencer in this moment.
Damn him.
Before you can burst it, for the sake of both of you and your not-so-cheap plane ticket, the piercing ringtone of the good doctor’s phone bursts it for you.
You stare at each other knowingly.
“You’ve got to be kidding,” you groan, shutting your eyes and tossing your head back in defeat.
Spencer retrieves his phone from his back pocket, pursing his lips knowingly before answering it.
“Hey, Garcia… yeah… you don’t have to call her, she’s actually with me. We’ll be there soon.” He gives you an apologetic look as he hangs up.
“I’m sorry,” he says sincerely, the previous moment fully vanished as you both slip back into work-mode. You let out an exaggerated, though you feel appropriate, sigh.
“At least you packed my go-bag for me,” you say in attempt to ease your own sadness about your now nonexistent weekend plans. “You should come over before all our cases.”
“Don’t let my generosity fool you.” Spencer nudges you toward the door with a comforting hand. “You’re packing mine when we get to my place.”

Column 2: Detective Sato and Takagi’s Love Story
Column 3: Rei Furuya’s Profile
Column 4: 5 People Involved - File 1
Column 5: 5 People Involved - File 2
Favorite case: The Trembling Police Headquaters: 12 Million Hostages
Least favorite case: The Spark That Fell on the Ranch
Rating:
6/10 dead friends
It was definitely fun to read because the included cases are all very good. Still I think some is them are very well-fitting for the topic of this selection, but there might also be some better cases that show the people’s relationships and backgrounds. Some of the cases are just part of this volume for one or two important scenes. And I’m still mad that we didn’t get a true Takasa selection for movie 25 promo...

As that one anon suggested I went through the files again and searched for ORI_State_PartneredWithCharacter and REALLY_CHARACTER flags (subtracting the '= false' at the end) and the results were pretty interesting. These are not just lines of dialog but also instances where the dialog would branch and give you more choices for that specific state. Example:
Tumblr media
First lets look at the partnered results. Keep in mind that romance cutscenes do not count into this because those don't get ORI_State_PartneredWithCharacter flags (probably 'cause the flag would be redundant since you have to be partnered to get the cutscene in the first place).
Partnered - Patch 1
Astarion 141
Shadowheart 98
Lae'zel 116
Karlach 97
Gale 88
Wyll 65
Minthara 53
Halsin 46
Partnered - Patch 6
Astarion 167 +26
Shadowheart 130 +32
Lae'zel 207 +91
Karlach 119 +22
Gale 115 +27
Wyll 102 +37
Minthara 67 +14
Halsin 103 + 57
Astarion started out with quite a margin but after all the patches he is actually not on top anymore - Lae'zel is (Remembering how Lae'zel and Wyll have the same writer...yeah, you can see where his focus lies. Speaking of...). The other numbers are as you'd expect, however Halsin has done a huge leap and now with patch 6 has not only surpassed Minthara but also Wyll(!) with his numbers. Great....thanks Larian.... ....
Moving on to the Origin specific results. Same as with partnered, it could be a line of dialog or a branch of dialog options opening up.
Origin Dialog Options - Patch 1
Astarion 2557
Shadowheart 2877
Lae'zel 2793
Karlach 2721
Gale 2519
Wyll 2651
Minthara 762
Halsin 960
Origin Dialog Options - Patch 6
Astarion 2771 +214
Shadowheart 3075 +198
Lae'zel 2966 +173
Karlach 2867 +146
Gale 2724 +205
Wyll 2912 +261
Minthara 801 +39
Halsin 1003 +43
Why do Minthara and Halsin have Origin specific dialog even though you can't play as them? I have no idea. Interestingly Wyll is not last of the Origins for once but in third place. Story relevance should come into play here so it makes sense. Astarion is losing more with this one but he still got a bit more than Gale.
So, about that content disparity between BG3 companions...
Usually I don't do any programming outside of work but I was really curious how the content between all the companions is actually distributed and also how it changed with patches.
So I put together a little code and let it run through the parsed dialog files for Patch 1 and now the latest Patch 6, counting everytime a character gets a line of dialog.
Tumblr media
I subtracted the numbers of [TagGreeting] and [TagAnswer] (manually, after the overall count...because I didn't wanna program it...shhh) since they just seem to be links to actual lines, but not lines themselves.
Keep in mind: 1. I don't know if there might be other tags that don't contain dialog, I only subtracted the two I mentioned, 2. IMPOSSIBLE lines that might not be accessible in game get counted, 3. this says nothing about the length of the lines (they could be one word or a couple of sentences as seen in the screenshot above. They all get counted as one), 4. Origin specific lines don't get counted unless they're actually said by the character (Player Karlach seems to talk to herself as 'Karlach:' for example, that gets counted).
So here are the final results:
Patch 1
Astarion 5876
Shadowheart 5639
Lae'zel 5221
Karlach 5032
Gale 4661
Wyll 4299
Minthara 2786
Halsin 2719
Patch 6 (number of lines added compared to patch 1)
Astarion 6408 +532
Shadowheart 6180 +541
Lae'zel 5718 +497
Karlach 5529 +497
Gale 5123 +462
Wyll 4936 +637
Minthara 3167 +381
Halsin 3001 +282
Unsurprisingly Wyll is last of the Origin characters. Though I was suprised that Karlach has quite a lot more to say than Gale.
The most suprising is that apparently Wyll got the most lines added since Patch 1!? If that is true it still did absolutely nothing to his abysmal numbers.
Buuuut I have the sneaking suspicion this might just be weird data, especially 'cause he's such an outlier here (I also checked Ulder's dialog for example, and he got 1 more overall line count from patch 1 to 6 but his [TagAnswer] count decreased from 20 to 2 making his result go up from 288 to 307. Could be the same with Wyll, maybe some different formatting that screws with the count.)
Also, so you don't think I just made up random numbers I put a screenshot of my code under the read more if you're curious
Tumblr media
Please don't judge - it's functional.

Shinichi loses his focus which is a lot worse than him crying because he’s a detective. The boy needs to focus but can’t do that whenever he thinks that Ran might have feelings for someone else.

Pads
Pairing: Spencer x fem!reader
Summary: Y/N realises her feelings for Spencer when he’s done something sweet for her without realising it
Warnings: IDK, period talk?
Words: 1003
A/N: My first time writing for Spencer Reid and my first time posting any of my own work on here!
Part Two HERE   Part Three HERE
Master List HERE
Tumblr media
You don’t know how it happened, nor when. All you know, is that it did. One day, you were strangers. Then colleagues. The friends. Then best-friends. Now… he was so much more than that.
When he smiles so wide that his eyes close. When he spoke so fast, his words blur together. When he gets excited over a theory that his hands flurry about in movement as he rushes to explains his thoughts. When every morning, you’d arrive at work and a Starbucks cup of coffee would be on desk with a sticky note containing his favourite fact-of-the-day. When he ‘stole’ half of your muffin at lunch but there was always crumbs. Either on the corner of his mouth, on his shirt or even on the desk sometimes. When you’d binge watch a new TV show together, and he’d supply your favourite popcorn while you got his favourite candy.
You only realised your feelings when your time came. You’d been watching The X-Files, one of your favourite episodes, -“Hey, Y/N, did you know Anderson has to stand on a wooden block because of the huge height difference between her and Duchovny?” – when you’d felt the drop in your stomach. You’d excused yourself to the bathroom quickly, grabbing your bag as you went.
Sitting on the toilet, your panties around your ankles, you had made it just before the ‘dam had burst’, as they say. You searched through the pockets of your bag, pushing aside the receipts and a stray candy wrapper but you couldn’t find a pad.
“Shit,” you hissed to yourself, throwing your bag to the floor. What the fuck were you going to do? With no pads available, you’d have to fold up some toilet paper and make a mad dash to the store. With a groan, you reached our hand for the toilet roll. It offered a second of resistance before the two squares came off the tubing, leaving it empty. “You’re joking.”
“Spencer!” you called out. “Spencer, there’s no more toilet roll. Spencer!”
“Check under the sink” he shouted back.
Thankfully, the sink was directly opposite the toilet and your arms were just long enough to reach. Bracing your feet on the floor so that you topple forward, you reached for the cabinet door and pulled it open. There it was, the top right shelf, a fresh roll of toilet paper. You sighed in relief grabbing it. As you went to close the door, you saw the pads.
Now, as far as you knew, Spencer Reid was very much single. You were his best-friend, he told you everything. You knew his favourite food, that the dark made him nervous – “nervous, not scared. I’m not scared, Y/N” – that his mom was sick, that he had a problem with dilaudid. Not to mention, you hung out together a lot. Every Sunday, at least the ones you had free, were spent together. All day you’d binge watch a TV show or have a movie marathon. You’d grab breakfast or lunch together nearly twice a week, outside of that Sunday, too. If Spencer had girlfriend, you would know.
So why did he have sanitary pads in his bathroom cupboard?
You grabbed the packet, ripping it open and taking one. He wouldn’t begrudge you taking one in your time of need.
After finishing your business and washing your hands, you grabbed your bag and left the bathroom. Spencer sat on his couch, the TV paused and his phone in his hand. You dropped your bag on the floor and took your seat again, tucking your leg under yourself.
“Ready?” he smiled, reaching for the remote which sat on the coffee table.
“Do you have a girlfriend?” Whoa, where did that come from. You felt your cheeks burn as his head whipped round to you, his eyebrows raised in shock at your question. You hadn’t meant to actually ask but honestly, the not knowing would have gotten to you later. Might as well get it over with.
“Girlfriend?” Spencer repeated. “No, why?”
Oh god, this was awkward. You bit your lip and shifted uncomfortably in your seat. “well… there were… you know, pads in your cabinet… you know, lady pads…”
“Oh, them? They’re for you, in case you need them. You’re here often enough and I wanted to ensure there were some handy for you just in case” he shrugged.
And that was it, that was the moment. Something changed within you. A warmth flowed through your body, storming into your chest and curling around your heart. You had always cared about Spencer, loved him as a friend but in this moment, this instance of his thoughtful, kind act, changed your view. A new kind of fondness for him washed over you and the light in the room seemed to shift.
In honest truth, looking back, you had probably seen him as ‘more’ for a while now. When he smiled at you, your heart had warmed. When he laughed at your jokes, your tummy had fluttered. When told you his fun fact about whatever you were doing at the time, a smile would automatically appear on your face. It had been going on for a while, you realised, yet you couldn’t actually date when it started.
It was like a spotlight shone on him, lighting him up as he gave you a warm smile. You sat there, shocked. None of your ex-boyfriends had stocked up their cupboards in case you came on your period, but Spencer had. You weren’t even dating; he was just your friend. Yes, your best-friend, but that didn’t mean he had to keep supplies for you. And yet, he did.
It was in that moment that you confronted your feelings, that you realised. You’re in love with him. You’re in love with your best friend. You’re in love with Spencer.
Spencer pressed play on the remote, turning back to the TV. “Besides, I spend basically all my free time with you. You’d know if I had a girlfriend, you know everything”.
