Balor seems like the type to fall for you whenever. Like, it’s not a flashy romantic moment, or a meaningful occasion, you just come up to his cart in the morning to check out his stock and gasp when you see a pretty gemstone or laugh when you see a silly article of clothing from the capital (“Balor, why on Earth do they wear stuff like this?”) and he finds himself frozen in place.

He can’t stop staring at you all of a sudden, your eyes seem brighter today and your laugh sounds happier, your skin looks so warm and inviting, his shoulders relax and his lips part, his eyes locked onto everything that makes you who you are, and he almost falls over. He stumbles weirdly, catching himself on the side of his cart with an awkward smile.

You ask him if he’s okay and he flushes bright pink, brow furrowing softly as his grin turns sappy, letting you know that he’s fine in the softest voice you’ve ever heard him use. It leaves you reeling, his usually plucky and cheerful voice smooth and gentle, and he’s looking at you like he’s seeing you for the first time, and now you’re the one swallowing nervously and shuffling your feet against the dew-covered grass.

Wind chimes sing in the distance and you wrap up your conversation, slinging your backpack over your shoulder. You say something about buying seeds at the General Store and Balor has half a mind to follow you like a lost puppy, but he doesn’t. If he’s going to woo you, he needs to spare some of his dignity. Not too much though.

The next morning he leaves you a bouquet of flowers that are out of season, knowing full well you’ll connect the dots. Months pass and he regularly drops hints about how he feels, but not without fidgeting and backtracking a few times. It takes everything in him not to do a silly triumphant dance when he sees a bouquet of flowers left on his cart, with a little card that says they’re from you.

He runs all over town, flowers in hand, searching high and low for you, He finally catches you coming out of the mines, backpack bulging with rocks and artifacts and monster loot. You jump when he calls you name, waving you over with a beaming smile on his face, cradling your bouquet like a baby. You laugh and run over to him, backpack thumping against your back.

Was gonna look for you as soon as I left the mines is what you say to him, taking your backpack off of your shoulders and placing it on the ground, digging through it until you find a bundle of pure sapphires, one or two perfect specimens thrown in the mix. Balor stands, slack jawed as you hold them out to him, a nervous smile on your face. You did all of that work, got all of those...for him?

“You’re astounding.” he breathes, heart pounding so hard he hears it in his ears, the blood in his body is rushing straight to his brain and he asks you out right then and there, confessing how long he’s adored you, how he wants to be with you officially now, promising to buy you a drink at the Inn. He sees you duck your head and smile nervously, accepting his offer without even a moment’s hesitation. He expects you to keep to yourself when you two arrive at the Inn, still riding the high of finally being together, but you burst through the Inn doors and shout that Balor is yours now, that you’re together, and he finds himself shrinking behind you in embarrassment.

The townsfolk take it in stride (after all, the atmosphere here has always been rowdy), clapping and congratulating the two of you. Some tease the embarrassed Balor, asking if he’s planning on sticking around now, moving in on the farm with you, getting a mining permit and taking care of the animals with you. Yearning takes root in Balor’s chest as he sees you laughing with Adeline and Eiland, and if he concentrates hard enough he can feel the soft skin of a cow under his fingertips.

It feels right. You feel right. And as you run back over and grab his hand, pulling him over to a cheerful Hemlock, Balor feels more at peace than he ever has in his life.

You already know March would be brutal. He's not good at expressing himself and, especially before you're an actual couple and he starts to put effort into not hurting your feelings, he wouldn't think twice about insulting your haircut.

If you came up to him after ruining your hair, he wouldn't be able to hide his confused scowl and ask "what did you do to your hair?" 

If you find it funny and laugh, he'll probably laugh as well and continue teasing you. He'd probably say something like, you shouldn't be allowed to smelt hot metal if you can't even cut your bangs correctly. 

He would laugh if you met him where he was and teased him back, especially about how he can't dye his own hair so he shouldn't be talking. 

If you had a different reaction, however, and got upset or embarrassed and walked away, he'd probably reflect on how you were likely feeling pretty self-conscious and realize that was a low blow.

He'd apologize next time he saw you, rolling his eyes and attempting to fix his comment a bit by saying "at least hair grows back." 

Ryis

Ryis would probably notice it right away. He pays close attention to you, and he can likely tell you're feeling self-conscious. 

He'd try to preserve your feelings the best he could. He'd ask about it lightly and casually. "Hey Y/N, did you get a new haircut? I like it."

You'd definitely blush and get super embarrassed, saying that you know the haircut sucks. Even though Ryis might secretly agree that it's not exactly the best look, he definitely would not agree to you putting yourself down like that. 

"What are you talking about, it's fine! You always look nice, so your haircut doesn't really matter, anyways."

If you're truly upset about it, he'd continue to reassure you and tell you that you look beautiful regardless. But thankfully hair does grow back if you truly don't like it!

He'll continue to compliment you as it grows back so you don't doubt whether he still finds you attractive. 

Eiland

Eiland is a sweetheart and would try to calm you down if you were upset about the haircut you gave yourself. A lot of reassurance about your beauty and his love for you regardless. 

He'd probably start telling you some interesting facts about historical hairstyles of Aldaria or something, as a way to distract you. You may or may not find it annoying in the moment. 

If you're still feeling unhappy, he'd offer to pay to get your hair fixed by Vera or some other expensive hairstylist in the Capital. 

He'd continue to attempt to reassure you that you look very pretty regardless and this sort of thing happened to everyone! In fact, he read on an Alda-period stone tablet that a woman once cut her own hair and....

Balor

It's rare that Balor loses his cool charm, but you see it waver in his face for a moment when you first see each other after the haircut. 

He'd try to deny it and turn the charm all the way up to compensate, telling you that you look absolutely radiant today (even though you look beautiful every day!). You'd see through it right away and call him out on it. 

He may try to deny it at first, but eventually agrees that it's not the best haircut. He does emphasize, however, that even something like a bad haircut couldn't detract from your beauty at all and you do still look lovely.

He'd hold back a bit of a laugh when you give him a blank stare from behind your crooked bangs, though. 

He just happens to generously gift you a set of beautiful gold hairpins from the Capital. Perfect timing. He'll tell you the hairpins compliment your eyes very well once he's no longer distracted by the funny-looking fringe. 

Hayden

Hayden wouldn't even notice honestly. He always thinks you look beautiful and wouldn't sweat small details like that. 

If you came to him and showed him how you messed up your hair, he'd probably laugh and tell you not to think anything of it!

"I cut my own hair all the time, Y/N. It's probably a mess but that's just fine by me!" He likes you however you are, with whatever you decide to do with your appearance.

If you were to tell him that you thought you looked unattractive or that you were embarrassed and didn't want anyone to look at you, he'd get genuinely upset. He truly doesn't understand how you don't see yourself as beautiful, and especially over such a small thing!

He'd continue to tell you not to pay it any mind, that hair grows back, and that no one would even notice. He genuinely thinks the latter because he wouldn't have noticed it had you not pointed it out. 

He'd lend you one of his big hats to cover your hair with while you wait for it to grow out, if you wanted.

Balor:

I don't think he's against PDA

he's a private guy, but I feel like he's more reserved with his feelings than his actions

he'll have his arm around you at the bar

some whispering in your ear that makes Elsie coo about her and Frederick

maybe a kiss on the cheek if he's had enough to drink

but I'd say that's where the PDA ends on his part

hugging and kissing in public might be a bit too soft for the image he has

if you initiated any PDA, he wouldn't deny you (barring a full makeout sesh, then he would take it somewhere private)

Eiland:

Balor💎- He sleeps completely intertwined with you, facing each other like one long, warm, sleepy hug. He loves running his fingers up and down your back, and if you run your fingers through his hair or massage his scalp he'll be out like a light

Celine🌼 - I feel like you start the night cuddling super close, but then Celine starfishes and takes up most of the bed, usually leaving you to snuggle in where you can lol

March♥️ - You usually start out shoulder to shoulder maybe holding hands, because even though you know each other well enough to sleep in the same bed, he's still a little awkward and getting used to affection and intimacy. You do, however, literally always wake up to him holding you close as the big spoon

Reina🍳 - I feel like with Reina if you lay on your back she's going to wrap herself around you like a koala on a tree lol She also strikes me as someone who takes up a lot of space when she sleeps, so she's definitely keeping a leg slung over your hips at all times

Ryis🪶 - You sleep chest to chest, he usually has one leg over yours and a gentle hand cupping the back of your head, fingers massaging your scalp. He also tends to nuzzle close and keep his lips on your forehead in a perpetual forehead kiss

Valen❤️‍🩹 - She likes to sleep on her back with you tucked into her side. You tend to be the one to fall asleep first because she always rubs your back, squeezes you closer to her, and gives you soft and sweet touches

Of course I picked March out, because let's face it. He would absolutely have an issue with anyone (he doesn't know and trust) even breathing in your direction. The blacksmith isn't big on PDA, but once he notices someone hitting on you he's basically all over you. March is wrapping his arm around you while glaring daggers at the person, not even trying to keep it low-key or anything. How dare they think they have a chance with you while you're dating the number one blacksmith in the entire goddamn country. This person looks like they can't even swing a hammer properly. What a disgrace! And when you try to talk about his jealous overreaction? Deny, deny, deny. Get Olric on the tease train with you and bully the shit out of him.

Juniper pretends to be all cool and calm and swears she has never been jealous and never will be. Bullshit. Someone could be laughing a bit too hard at your jokes or touching your arm for too long and that woman has already a poisonous potion on her mind. Of course she will deny any jealousy no matter how obvious she is with it and Valen teases her for the rest of the week once she notices. "Who is this peasant? OH HO HO!" She'd say while giving the person a bombastic side-eye. "Oh no, darling, they touched your arm? We will get you all cleaned up in my bathhouse." Juniper, please, that is so rude.

The way Balor gets jealous is not really anything you notice at first unless you know him like the back of your hand. Which you do. PDA isn't something he struggles with, but when he sees an outsider flirting with you, he tends to get even more touchy. Caldarus forbid the person is a salesman like him though. Then it's on. Welcome to the petty Olympics and Snicklefritz is absolutely diving for that gold medal. "Your gems are so unpolished." "Did you really think this rusty spoon counts as an artifact?" "We obviously have an amateur at work here, huh."

Adeline needs to be protected at all cost, because when she's jealous she gets insecure about herself. The festival she planned together with you and the other town members is a full success and attracted a lot of people from outside, but unfortunately you seem to attract a lot of attention as well. Not that you want to of course. She is a mess once she takes notice. Reina and Celine have to convince her that you don't feel neglected and that she isn't too focused on her work. Meanwhile the person hitting on you slowly realizes that they walked into a landmine, because you can't stop talking about how your beautiful girlfriend organized this festival and what amazing work she's been doing to repair the town and-

Eiland's reaction to you being hit on is almost as petty as Balor's. More even and he doesn't seem to realize one bit. Someone is hitting on you? Let him assess the situation first. Okay, he's there, being more than clear that he's your partner, but the other person won't stop their advances. Eiland wraps his arm around the other person and offers to tell them some fun facts about the history of the town. What, they can't tell the difference between the artifacts and that they're all in fact not from the same era? His reaction is the equivalent of "All marathons are the same length. That's like common sense, I fear." and he says it in a way like he's talking to a toddler.

Valen feels incredibly secure in your relationship and rarely gets jealous, but dammit, Juniper, stop telling her about how this new, cute salesperson from abroad is hitting on her partner. It's all fun and games for the witch, because it's a sight to behold. The usually calm and composed doctor isn't calm and composed now? Valen walks over to you guys (very casually and not stiff at all) and plants (again, very casually) a kiss on your temple. All the insecurity and jealousy vanishes into thin air once she hears your giggles and feels your hand reaching out for hers. Dammit, Juniper, she will get her revenge after this.

When she tells Adeline and Reina about it, they’re all giggly blushing messes.

She never wants to bother you as you’re running around, but she does always hope you’ll stop and talk to her.

Once you guys are in an established relationship, it’s her favorite part of the day. Mostly because you come up and kiss her cheek, ask her about her day and you always make time for her.

Balor:

Similar to Celine, he sees you run up every morning. He can’t help but admire the way you wake up with a pep in your step- or at least it seems.

When you stop to talk to him, he appreciates that you try to make it brief. But in truth he would talk to you for hours.

He also adores how you run up to him after a day in the mines to pass off any jewels you got.

He wants to squish your cheeks and tell you to stop being so good.

After you’ve gotten into an established relationship, whenever you try and run off with a dismissive, “Sorry, sorry! Time is money!” He pulls you back into him and frowns. “Money can’t buy happiness.”

Ryis:

When he sees you running around, he can’t help but smile. Knowing that you’re doing your best to help Mistria. But then- you take time for him???

It makes his heart flutter, watching you skid to a stop to talk to him.

He will listen to you about anything and everything. He doesn’t care if it’s just about what you caught today, or saw in the mines.

After you guys are in a relationship, he’ll slowly start to guide you toward the Inn to get you something to eat. Mostly so you can keep talking to him.

And sometimes he’ll see you running around, call your name and when you turn around he’ll run up and give you a quick kiss. “Come find me later? I wanna hear about your day.”

We all know that he would pretend not to care.

But in truth? He cares. so. much.

He knows your footsteps and looks over before you say hello, letting out a sigh. “What.” “Just came to say hi!” “Well don’t waste your time.”

But you do, and he loves it. He eats it up.

He’s laying in bed, just thinking about you and how cute you look when you say hello and GAH HES GNAWING AT HIS PILLOW.

He would try so hard to ‘not care’ but the second you don’t say hi to him he is OFFENDED.

After an established relationship is formed, if you don’t say hi he will walk to your farm and demand a hello and a kiss.

If you don’t give him his kisses he will pout. I’m sorry I don’t make the rules.

Reina:

At first, she probably thinks it’s just cause you get free soup at the inn. which is a perk- but not the only reason you say hi.

It’s when you find her outside the inn that gets her heart fluttery.

She would tell Celine and Adeline and they’d all giggle about it.

She loves when you bring in veggies for her to try to make stuff with though. Or anything really! Any of your foreageabples, fish, etc.

After an established relationship she would always have a meal ready for you, and make you sit to eat. She knows what you get up to in a day, and she will make sure you have enough food to eat for it.

But you’ll always drop by and give her a kiss, tell her you’ll see her later and drop by again after dinner.

It melts her heart every time.

You tell him what needs to be done, he'll do it, no questions

...he thinks. He thinks he won't have questions

Breaking up rocks that just appeared out of nowhere? Fine. Cutting down trees? He can get used to it. Trying to figure out how much water the plants need? He'll walk back into your house, his head hanging low, asking you how much water they need.

Once you tell him he has to actually show the animals some love, he grumbles a bit

He gets SUPER attached to your animals. He'll never admit it though

Within 2 weeks, he's memorized their names and can identify them really easily

Even after you've healed, you might see him playing with the chickens and petting the cows

If you do, act like you didn't. He'll turn bright red

If you have some empty space on your farm, he'll sometimes come up with some suggestions of what can be built/done with it. Of course you don't HAVE to listen to him, but he'd be pretty happy if you did

He'll never mess with anything you don't ask him to, he doesn't want unnecessary conflict. It's your farm, not his, and he just wants to help

Any leftover materials that you don't need, he'll take. Maybe Olric or Ryis might make use of them

And at the end of each day, he'll come in and help you with anything else you couldn't do on your own in the house, while telling you what he was able to get done during the day (he doesn't want to leave you stressed at night)

Balor:

He kinda grimaced at the thought of doing farmwork but he got over it

I mean, you're dating a farmer, you got what was coming for ya

You'll have to show him how to swing an axe/pickaxe

Please scare him into thinking he'll have to go into the mines for stuff, his reaction would be so funny

He really has fun watering the plants in the morning, literally the one moment he's at peace

The animals...he doesn't enjoy being around them at first, but it's just another thing he gets used to

Seeing your chickens play on the seesaw almost made him forget that he has work to do tbh

He'll genuinely be so proud of himself if he reaches the goals that you set for him that day

Even if he doesn't (wouldn't be that rare, he's not used to this) he'll still feel really accomplished when he takes the shipping bin that's full of things that HE put in

You'd see his mood change from cautious and slightly discouraged to determined. It's cute.

Celine:

She doesn't want you to worry, but you do end up worrying because you'll think she's overworking herself

She'll wake up before dawn to start watering the plants and clearing weeds from the fields

If you peek out and check on her, she'll look really calm, no matter what she's doing

I feel like she's also a lot stronger than she looks, so there really isn't a need to worry about her

If she finds anything worth showing you, she'll bring it in and ask you what you want her to do with it

She has to fight back the urge to play with the baby cows and chickens all day

⎯ Balor

If a charming young man like BALOR can’t dance, then he’s afraid he isn’t worth his salt. As a merchant, he needs to be relatively skilled in most, if not all fields. And dancing is one of them. Though he seldom uses anything but his pristine bargaining skills and his smooth talking, it’s good to know. At least, that’s what he tells himself. When you take over the old farm, however, he decides he needs to impress you in other ways aside from the oddities he brings back.

So, when he offers you his hand one night at the inn, who are you to say no? He’s treated you so kindly since you moved in (though, everyone has), and he’s been quite a help to you. Aside from that, you couldn’t help but feel like he was flirting with you as well. Not that you minded at all, he was quite handsome, and admittedly you fell for his charms.

When you take his hand, you can hear the kids gasp and whisper. Balor is smooth and fluid with his movements, spinning you around the little space you two had in the inn. His movement is something like a Viennese waltz, keeping you close as you two spin, making sure you don’t get too dizzy. You can’t help but feel flustered as it feels like everyone’s eyes are on you. Granted, it’s not every night they get to see Balor of all people dance.

⎯ Eiland

Being born into nobility, EILAND can dance quite well. That, paired with lessons from Elsie in the current day, help him become one of the best dancers in Mistria. The thing is, he only took an interest in dancing once more when you had taken over the old farm. He’s consistent and damn near princely, and finally, he decided to invite you to the manor to “spectate” on some of these lessons via letter. Don’t ask why his handwriting looks suspiciously like Elsie’s.

Still, you decide it’d be quite fun. Perhaps you could learn something yourself, no? It isn’t often you get invited to the Manor, especially to see such a grand display. You hope, at the very least. However, when you enter the Manor, Eiland seems very surprised to see you, only for a second. He completely masks his surprise with that friendly tone once more, welcoming you in almost hurriedly.

You take a seat and Elsie begins the session as Eiland’s partner, only for about three seconds, before she beckons you to take her place. You don’t even get to shake your head before she’s grabbed you by your hand and led you to the center of the hall. Neither of you get to protest before she’s urging you two to begin. Without a second thought, Eiland begins. To say you feel like royalty is an understatement, he spins you two around and dances with such grace that you feel as if you are in a ballroom, you can practically see yourself with him at some sort of gala. While HAYDEN can dance, he’s not much for showing off his moves. While he’s not ashamed, his country style feels a bit out of place among people like Eiland and Ryis. That being said, not many people have seen Hayden dance. Most of the time, it’s in the morning when he’s cooking his breakfast, hyping himself up for the day. It’s nothing much, really, tapping his feet and whistling some tune to himself.

When you catch him early one morning, muttering his own song to himself, he doesn’t shy away. Why would he? He’s having fun, so why not join him? Before you can even question yourself, you’re taking his hand and he’s spinning you around to a steady beat only he understands. It involves a lot of swaying, some spinning, and little flares that make Hayden feel fancy. He likes to keep you close to his chest, which is enough to make you blush.

Regardless, it’s fun. It’s way too early in the morning for your mind to catch up with the fact, but your body moves with Hayden’s so easily. While you get a lot of time to yourself in between tending to your farm and the rest of the town’s requests, you rarely get moments as… quaint as this. It surely isn’t something you thought you’d start your day with, but it is welcomed nonetheless. There’s a sort of gentleness within his movements, the way he pulls you closer ever so subtly, that makes you swoon internally.

MARCH being… March, he knows how to dance. On his own. He takes it as an opportunity to be the best at yet another thing. If he wasn’t good at it, then who would he be? April? He can’t have that. He has to be the absolute best at it. Even if Eiland and Adeline grew up with proper dance lessons, even if Balor knows all the fancy stuff. March has gotta be the best. In town. So he says.

Problem is, he’s bad at dancing with a partner. He’s clumsy and miscalculated and tends to trip over your feet when he does so. He pouts and huffs and blushes, as if he’s impatient. He’s embarrassed, really. But he’s not going to tell you that. He talked himself up so much, practically told you he could dance like a king, and here he is fumbling like it’s the middle school dance. Don’t say a word, and he’ll spare you.

As awkward as he is as a dancing partner, he’s still kind of earnest about it. He’s never danced with someone else before, but he tries quite a lot to be all fancy and elegant like Eiland and Balor might be. While it started off as an attempt to impress you, it quickly turned into a mess of laughter. March let a soft chuckle slip, before quickly trying to cover it up with his tough guy facade, pouting and frowning as he acts like he’s more interested in the steps than you. Yet he continues to steal glances, which ultimately end up in him stumbling once more.

⎯ Olric

No. This man cannot dance. OLRIC cannot dance, what-so-ever. That doesn’t stop him from trying, of course. He has no need to be embarrassed if he’s having fun. Doesn’t matter if he comes off as a little goofy when Hemlock and Josephine end up in a duet on nights at the inn, he’s gonna dance and he’s gonna have fun. It’s infectious, really.

You can’t help but join. Either it’s the little bit of alcohol you had working its way to kill off your embarrassment, or simply the big ol’ smile Olric wears as he dances. Or perhaps it’s the fact that his insistent ‘c’mon, join me!’s have gotten to you. You don’t know! You don’t care! Maybe you two look like two fools on the floor, but you’re enjoying it as you try to mimic his moves. He really is horrible at dancing, even you have a hard time trying to move like him. So stiff and silly… it’s impossible to replicate.

Eventually, he pulls you into him by complete surprise. No warning, no nothing, now you're trapped between his strong arms and his chest as he sways to the beat. It’s oddly romantic, and it seems both Hemlock and Jo have shifted their tones to follow you and Olric’s dance. It feels like all eyes are on you by that time, as Olric hums slightly off-key and sways gently. You feel your cheeks heat up, either from embarrassment (which you thought you had thrown away at the start of the night), or from the fact that you’re just so very close to Olric.

RYIS isn’t much of a dancer. At least, socially. He’s more than happy to sit and watch on rowdy nights at the Inn, despite his Uncle trying to get him to join in. He’s more of a romantic, really. Fancy balls and galas don’t stick with him as much as cozy nights do. So dancing in general isn’t something he had tried much. Even in the capital. Still, he knows how to, just not on the scale others might.

He gives it more thought when he catches you dancing along to a little bout Elsie started one night. He can’t deny that he’s a little enraptured, almost pulled to join you. But then again, he decides he can wait just a little and surprise you with something a little more intimate later on. Perhaps he’d write up a nice little invitation for you to join him by the lake, underneath the apple tree.

That letter comes in the next morning, and you are all too quick to meet him up. It’s a little embarrassing to admit that you ended up by the lake a little less than an hour earlier than when he had asked you to join him. However, when he finally joins you, a little flustered that he was ‘late’ to this date, he is quick to pull you into a somewhat grand spin. With a big smile on his face and a soft blush, he begins. It’s small, but lovely, swaying underneath the shade of the apple tree as he practically drowns you in all sorts of compliments and sweet nothings that he had kept to himself for this particular moment.

overall he’s just very passionate when he kisses you. Very methodical. He always seems to know what he’s doing and always seems to know exactly how it will make you react

Eiland:

He’s very formal, despite liking to dig in the dirt, so he likes to keep things light when you’re out in public. Not a fan of pda except when it’s appropriate, like holding hands and the lighthearted face kisses <3

Hard to tell because he’s averse to kisses at first

you had to build up to affection by holding hands, and then it eventually evolved into him kissing your palm or your wrist (and he’s obviously blushing the whole time) but he doesn’t do it often

Even when he eventually works up to the point and the courage to kiss you square on the lips, he still gets deniably flustered about it so he rarely does it

when he does though, it’s during those rare, vulnerable moments, and you can rest assured knowing he’s putting all of his love and effort into it

Olric:

On the bicep 💪

He loves complimenting how strong you are or how strong you’ve gotten from your work on the farm, so he loves asking you to flex for him and then presses silly little kisses up your bicep in a form of praise

He may be extroverted, but he’s also a very sweet guy, so when it comes to your face he likes kissing the corner of your jaw

his second favorite part with that is then getting to quietly compliment or praise you in the ear about something he’s very proud of about you

On your horns you don’t have horns

dragons press “kisses” against each other’s horns as a sign of affection and trust, but since you don’t have any he settles for kissing your ears (or fake horns if you have them as cosmetics). With that knowledge, please please please kiss him on his horns

Due to cultural/anatomy differences, dragons just have different places that are normal to them to kiss

one such place is the back, but that’s hard to do from certain angles with you, so if you lay down on your stomach and let him pepper kisses on your spine and in between your shoulder blades he would absolutely love it

I have wanted to write for Fields of Mistria since i first spoke to this colourful characters. It honestly has become my comfort game and i have fallen for this blue haired Merchant. March is my number one, but Balor deserves love to people! Also i refer to Juniper as Plum and Eiland as Peach once in this story as irl i kept forgetting they're names so i just called them that because of their hair colour.

“My my, this is a surprise, Good morning!” Balor’s calm voice called out from the town stairs, making you practically jump out of his skin as you back away from the merchant's cart. His eager smile and soft wave met your startled gaze from atop the stairs. After waking up earlier than normal this morning, you decided to go walk around the town before everyone else awoke for the day. Although you never actually made it to those stone steps, something on Balor’s cart had caught your eye. 

“Balor! Good morning! I wasn't going to steal anything! I was only looking, I swear!” Your mild panic and hands waving in front of you only caused the merchant to chuckle, walking to your side.

“Well that's such a shame… And here I thought you came to steal my heart.” Balor’s voice flirted, taking your hand into his as he gently kissed it. “Although… you already have my dear.” “KYAAHHHH” A loud scream erupted from your chest as you pulled your hand away like a kid touching something gross. Balor’s chuckle turned into an eruption of laughter at how surprised you were. 

“That was not the reaction I was going for but I will take it. That was so cute!” Laughter only continues to increase through his quick paced words. Your own face only grew redder and redder the more he laughed, to be honest it was hard to tell if he was laughing at what just happened or the fact he started tripping on his feet that was making him laugh. 

“Balor! What was that for? Since when did you openly flirt with people?” A questioning suspicion laced your voice as you managed to gain your composure.

“Oh I'm sorry, that is unlike me.” He is still lightly laughing as he’s coming down from whatever laughing fit just erupted from him. Taking a deep breath to relax, the merchant straightened up and dusted off the side of his poncho before usual smile returned. “I apologise for startling you, Juniper and Eiland decided to give flirting tips at the Inn last night. I was unfortunate enough to get caught in the middle, they uh… this is embarrassing… They won’t let me back into the Inn until I give them a report on which of they’re flirting styles works better.”

“Wait wait wait… So they are actually keeping you out of the Inn just because of this flirt battle they’re having?” The curious cat in you is only poking him for more details.

“They actually got Reina and her whole family to stop me from entering the Inn until I give them my ‘findings’. Which is both a blessing and a curse it would seem.” A finger pressed against his chin as he leans against his cart, pondering his next few words.

You only raised an eyebrow to him, tilting your head like a puppy. “Blessing and a curse?”

“As much as i really don’t want to get back to those Dragons and Drama’s. My late night drink is something I would prefer to keep on a Friday.” A mild scoff escapes his lips as he thinks about the D&D game Eiland dragged him into. In Fact that same game is how this whole flirting debacle happened. Juniper may not be in the game but she can hear everything that goes on from her seat at the bar. And it was during their last game that Eiland decided to have the group roll for a persuasion check on a group of women to ‘flirt’ they’re way through a city’s borders. Or something to that effect Balor wasn’t exactly paying attention. Wasn't until Juniper was suddenly pulling him into her side with her arm on his shoulder whilst Eiland tried to move her away that he was suddenly aware of what was happening.

Now it’s your turn to laugh and Balor’s face to turn a perfect ruby red. “So! You mean to tell me, "You… got caught in a flirting battle between Peach and Plum Because of Dragon’s and Drama!?”

“Yes…” Balor only looked away rubbing the back of his neck before chuckling himself. “Eiland thinks the more honest approach works… That was my attempt at Juniper’s style. And from your reaction I'm going to agree with Eiland.”

“Well I'm not a very good observer, Balor. You would need to use almost everyone in town to get a valid result.” Pondering for a moment you began thinking how everyone else would react to what he did. Sure it was sweet and forward, but it’s also very unlike him, hence why you were startled.

“What if I don't want to do that with others?” Your thinking stopped like a deer in headlights, blinking confused at him, an almost comedic heh escaping your lips as you stared at him. “I was on my way to my cart to retrieve something… for you actually and well here you are.”

“For me…? Balor, what are you getting at?” Question after question ran through your head as he continued on

“When this whole situation happened I honestly dreaded it. I’m not one to openly flirt with someone unless I have genuine appreciation and trust for them. Then I realised… this dumb pickle I've gotten myself in gave me the perfect excuse to give you this…” He moved around his cart and reached inside, shuffling through his wares for a moment before pulling something out. It was shiny from what you could tell. “I had Hayden grow this for me… Celine and I worked together to preserve this so it would rot away before I had a chance to give it to you. Here.”

Turning around in one swift motion, he showed you what he had hidden to his chest, An Apple? In the shape of a heart, it was shiny from being encased in a crystal resin-like substance, making it almost look like a crystal apple. That was what you spotted earlier that lured you here. Was Mistria pulling her thread to lead the both of you here? 

Reaching out for your hand, he gently pulled you towards him, the back of your hand laying in the palm of his as he placed the gift gently in your hand. Never once letting go of your hand as he made eye-contact with you. All you saw was love. “I may not be able to grow flowers, crops or anything really… but I can sell them in a heartbeat. Sometimes I wish for something I can allow my heart to keep… What I'm asking is. Will you accept this gift as a sign of my love and admiration for you?”

“Balor…” The warmest smile painted your face as you gratefully accepted this gift, holding it tightly to his chest with one hand as you moved your free hand to his shoulder. Placing a soft kiss to his cheek before smiling again, “Maybe use this as your report to Juniper.”

Not far away from you watching from the stone steps was none other than Eiland and Juniper, standing side by side with smug grins. Juniper’s hand on her hip, a victorious smile on her face, Eiland leaning on the wall to watch the new couple. High-fiving quietly as they walked away from the scene, going unseen the entire time. Mission successful.

Balor is not unaccustomed to flirting. He's a handsome man, well-traveled, and a purveyor of expensive goods. He's met many people, so to speak.

But something about your particular attention to him really makes him flustered. And that fact alone scares him.

He does a lot of self-analysis to try and understand what about you makes you special to him, and why your flirting makes his heart race. He's met many attractive people in his life, sure, but you're so much more than just another pretty face to him.

From the first moment he met you on your entrance into Mistria, and he held your hand as you jumped over the broken bridge into the small village, he couldn't get you out of his mind.

From his first impression, you were definitely beautiful. As he got to know you more, he saw you as particularly clever and helpful with his business. You understood him and his line of work.

He's not sure, maybe it has to do with the fact that he's grown surprisingly attached to this village. But he suspects you play no small role in that feeling.

He can tell you like him too. Each day, you make a point to stop by his cart and chat with him. At first, it's mostly about business. But as time passes, you make an effort to learn more about the mysterious merchant and remember each detail of each story he tells you.

He really starts to feel your affections towards him each time you take effort to bring him a beautiful gem or rare archeological find. At first he thanks you, saying it'll be a good sell in the Capital.

But then you emphasize that it's for him, not to be sold. You know that, aside from his work, he truly appreciates the beauty and rarity of such things. He's touched by the thought you put into it.

Even more so when you remember his brief mention of his favorite food, curry, and make an effort to bring it to him as often as possible.

He knew that he loved you on the day you invited him over to the farm for dinner. You told him that you and Reina had worked together on a new curry recipe, and hoped that he liked it.

While you may have tried to brush off any hints suggesting that this was made for him, claiming that you and Reina were simply practicing cooking, he could tell that you didn't offer this meal to him thoughtlessly.

It's the most delicious and comforting thing he'd remembered having since his childhood. Comforting food like this was hard to come by when you lived your life on the road.

Charming and charismatic as he is, he finds it truly difficult to express in words what this gesture meant to him. Really, what all of these thoughtful and kind gestures mean to him.

He begins to associate you with the feeling of home. He hasn't known that feeling in a while.

He goes to great lengths to try and repay you for your kindness. He knows that he's already gained your affection and doesn't need to try to win you over, but he wants to give you even a small piece of the feeling you've given him.

He first brings you rare and expensive gifts he comes into possession of over the course of his travels outside of Mistria. Some of these things, you know well, he could have easily sold for a pretty penny in the Capital. But he chooses to give them to you.

As he gets to know you more, he moves away from gifts he knows would be liked by anyone to gifts specific to your interests and tastes.

He knows how carefully you listen to all his stories, and makes great effort to do the same for you. He even goes so far as to keep notes of the things you've mentioned you liked. He'll bring them for you any chance he gets.

His favorite thing in the world is spending late nights with you at the Inn, swapping stories and laughs well into the night. He feels like he can talk to you forever, and it feels wonderful to have a caring someone to share his thoughts and feelings with.

Another thing he needs to get used to is the trouble he has flirting with you at first. Although you unabashedly like Balor and don't try to hide it, Balor has to fight through some embarrassment to show his feelings back. Something he's not used to.

This is a shock to a man whose whole life was spent charming everyone he meets. He's never been a stranger to grand displays of affection, but with you he takes a different approach. With you, he wants to cultivate intimacy.

He gets shy when you clearly indicate how much you like him, but always wants you to know that the feeling is mutual and he wants your relationship to progress further.

Because of this, it doesn't take long at all for you two to become an official couple. Even long into your relationship, when Balor has vowed to make Mistria (and you specifically) his permanent home, he never stops making sure you feel loved by him. He tells you and shows you every single day.

You guys don't even have to do something together necessarily. It's more than enough for him to just have you around so you're the first thing he sees when he looks up

It's no secret that Mistria has grown on Balor and he shows that by going the extra mile for the residents. So it shouldn't be a surprise that I chose acts of service for him. He's not good with words or PDA, but he's so down for doing things for you to show his appreciation. He overhears that you need a certain item for the community board?
