FictionJunction Station Express Railway Newsletter Vol.12 Scans
Here are my HQ scans of the latest FJS fan club magazine.
Vol.02 | Vol. 03 | Vol.04 | Vol.05 | Vol.06 | Vol.07 | Vol.08 | Vol.09 | Vol.10 | Vol.11
ā—This is Fan Club EXCLUSIVE contentā— ā—PERSONAL USE ONLYā— Do ā—NOT SHAREā— on other sites
Please note that Vol.07 & Vol.08 havenā€™t been scanned because thereā€™s nothing too exciting in them. This time thereā€™s a crosstalk with composer Hideyuki Fukasawa, a lot of coverage of FJS FC Talk & Live Vol.#3, the closing performing of YKL Vol.#20 and their appearance at the FSN anniversary event/Highway Star Party 2024.
Feels kinda bittersweet now to see all those pics of them together. I wonder if Yuki will hold fan club events this year? I guess she might hold them around the same time as last year which would mean that we can expect an announcement at some point in April.

KOKIA updates: January 2025
Below follows a summary of KOKIAā€™s activities of January 2025 (including some news entries made in 2024, but promoting 2025 events). For now, this will remain the style of updates of this blog for the foreseeable future - pleaseĀ read this postĀ for a further explanation, and thank you in advance for your continued patience and support.
Tumblr media
Past performances
KOKIA's first performance of 2025 was January 18, for her by now traditional Yatsugatake Kogen Music Hall performanceĀ ā€˜The place where music falls vol. 7ā€™Ā (ongaku no kudaru basho). Aside from the news entry of November 29, promoting general ticket sales starting the next day and the promotional Instagram image, KOKIA didn't really write a long review on her blog about the performance (aside from a mention at the start of her entry for January 20). She did, however, post a picture of the night sky on her Instagram, thanking her audience and comparing how the stars seem to fall from that sky much like the titular music.

Once-in-a-lifetime meeting tour 2025
With the new year starting, KOKIA is preparing for her upcoming Once-in-a-lifetime meeting tour 2025.
The first performances will be in the Kanagawa prefecture, at the Yokohama red brick warehouse no. 1 (3rd floor) on January 15 and 16. From her news entry of December 11, general ticket sales started December 27 via Capital Village. In her news entry of January 20 and accompanying blog entry, KOKIA reveals a guest star: Kazuhiro Matsuo will be joining on guitar during these two performances. KOKIA calls him one of her strongest 'sound rangers' who has supported her throughout the years, though it's now been a decade since they've last performed together. She's very excited to have him join! (Promotional image for these performances below via Instagram)
The next upcoming performances are Tokyo (April 13) and Kanazawa (April 19), for which pre-orders for fan club members have been opened now (news entries for January 22 and January 26 mention the MEMBERS page on her website has updated accordingly).
Furthermore, KOKIA announced in her January 31 news entry that her concert tour will be promoted via video on the Starts Vision screen at the famous Shibuya scramble crossing in Tokyo, from February 10 to 16, once per hour from 9:00 to 24:00.
Finally, she lists out all performances in her news entry for January 29:
February 15 and 16, 2025 - Kanagawa prefecture, Yokohama red brick warehouse no. 1 (general sales ongoing)
April 13, 2025 - Tokyo, Nihonbashi Mitsui Hall (fan club member pre-sale)
April 19, 2025 - Ishikawa prefecture, Kanazawa 21st century art museum theatre 21 (fan club member pre-sale)
May 17 and 18, 2025 - Osaka, Nanko Sunset Hall
June 7, 2025 - Hokkaido, Sapporo concert hall Kitara small hall
July 20, 2025 - Saga prefecture, Roman-za
July 21, 2025 - Oita prefecture, BRICK BLOCK
July 26, 2025 - Yamaguchi prefecture, Jazz Club BILLIE
July 27, 2025 - Aichi prefecture, Denkibunka hall The Concert Hall
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Other upcoming performances
In her news entry of January 27, KOKIA reveals she'll make a guest appearance at Yuki Kajiura's LIVE vol.#21ļ½ž60 Songsļ½ž, to be held in July and August. KOKIA will perform on August 1 in Tokyo, at Shouwa's Women University's Hitomi Memorial Hall, on August 17 in Nagoya, PORTBASE, and on August 23 in Omiya, Sonic City.
More information including the other guest artists can be found on the official website.Pre-sales for official 'FictionJunction Station' fan club members will start February 3.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Promotional events
Spread out over a week, the Asahi Shimbun newspaper Digital Magazine published an interview with KOKIA for Naoko Sakamoto's 'music spirit' segment. The first part, published on January 8, covers KOKIA talking about her new album essence -25th Anniversary All Time best- along with stories about her music. The second part, published on January 15, also talks about her daily life and her feelings about growing older.
The articles feature many new photos, taken by Hiromi Nishida from Victor Entertainment.
(Mod comment: Full disclosure: I hope to one day be able to translate the interviews KOKIA has done lately like I've done before, but I'm afraid that's not going to happen in the short term.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In addition, KOKIA continues to make radio appearances. She featured on MUSIC HOT FLAVOR on January 4 (first picture below), on Get Up Kyoto Magunamu Ishii SHOW at KBS Kyoto radio on January 5 (December 2 news entry) and on FM Yokohama's KISS & RIDE on January 21 (second picture below).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally, KOKIA announced on December 28 in her news entry that starting January 6, she's teamed up with ePrint Service for Shopping Mall KOKIA. This means that in convenience stores all across Japan (7/11, Lawson, Family Mart, Mini Stop), you can use their printing service to print out exclusive KOKIA designed items. Currently, there are 2 postcard designs for Ā„ 400 and one sticker design for Ā„ 600. Both have a cute snake design to commemorate the 205 being the year of the Snake, and the other postcard design is a promotional shot for her album essence. More designs are planned for the future. KOKIA mentions how this way, she doesn't have to worry about high shipping costs for small items.
The current designs can be seen on the official website.
Additionally, fan club members will receive a special code in the next mail magazine, which they can use to print out the seasonal KOKIA newspaper from now on, too.

Bara no Toge playlist
Just thought of making a collection of songs that I feel can reflect and tell the story of Bara no Toge. Whether it be events or characterā€™s emotions, I just made a list of songs I feel fit the overall tone and image for the series.
---
00.) Kagayaku sora no Shijima ni wa - Kalafina (Lyrics)
For me, this song acts like a prologue to the whole story. Not only does it feel like the song is about to introduce us to somewhat of a dark fairytale, but I can also imagine this being a song that Shizuku would sing at Himenoā€™s funeral after her death.
01.) Sekai ga Naiteru Nara - SKE48 (Lyrics)
Kinda goes without saying; this is the theme song of Bara no Toge.
02.) TWO ROSES - SKE48 (WMatsui) (Lyrics)
You know why.
02.5.) Futatsu no Koudo to Akai Tsumi or Rondo - ON/OFF (Lyrics to bothĀ here)
I dunno, somehow I just think these songs both fit in this story well. Maybe itā€™s just cuz they were both openings for Vampire Knight.
03.) In the land of twilight, under the moon - fictionjunction live variation
I just think it sounds cool.
04.) Kin no Ai, Gin no Ai - SKE48 (Lyrics)
I dunno, I can somewhat see the Cattleya class singing this.
05.) Ame no Pianist - SKE48 (Lyrics)Ā or 10 Krone to Pan - AKB48 (Lyrics)
I can imagine Uta singingĀ and dancing whileĀ Onpu is playing piano for her.
06.) Red Moon - Kalafina (Lyrics)
This could be sung by Kou, Mizuki, (maybe) Shizuku, and even Kiba, reminiscing about the past and the tragedy that befell 18 years ago.
07.) Tsuyogari Tokei - SKE48 (Lyrics)
Whenever I hear this song or watch the girls perform it live, the emotion that is always conveyed is heartbreaking despair. I can easily see Shizuku singing this during her mental breakdown in Chapter 8, as she begs and pleads for time to stop as the guiltĀ toward SumireĀ unintentionallyĀ dying because of herĀ and the heartbreak over Himenoā€™s death consumes her.
08.) Monochrome - Matsui Jurina original (Lyrics)
I already mentioned this, but I really connect this song with Shizuku. Any time I hear it, I immediately think of Shizuku singing about her growing feelings toward Yuri.
09.) Kataomoi Finally - SKE48 (Lyrics)
Is it weird that I can imagine this taking place during the Winter Ball?
I mean, it can reflect on both Shizuku x Yuri and Ruka x Nami.
09.5.) Kareha no Station - Furumarion Saxophone x Piano Duet variation
Come on, I had to put this here, it was such a great scene to image out.
10.) MagiaĀ - Kalafina (Lyrics)
I can imagine Kiba, Erena, and Yami singing this as the spell that awakens Sumire to possess Kureha.
10.5) Suna no Oshiro or Still DollĀ - Kanon Wakeshima (Lyrics here and here)
I can imagine Sumire singing either of these.
11.) Kimi no Gin no Niwa - Kalafina (Lyrics)
Again, with this story being somewhat of a fairytale, this song has a child-like innocence with dark undertones behind the cheerful melody. In my mind, this is a song that the young Himeno, Shizuku, and Sumire could sing when Yuri has her flashback dream about them, as well as becoming somewhat wrapped up from the childrenā€™s imagination thatā€™s returning to her memories.
12.) Hikarifuru - Kalafina (Lyrics)
This is a heavenly song, whenever I hear it, an image that often comes to my head is Yuri and Shizuku dancing together, happy. So imagine, in the final moments of Yuriā€™s dream, after finally remembering the tragedy of her past lifeā€™s death, the Three Mothers sing this song, Shizuku appears to comfort her and they dance in pure light. Beautiful, right?
13.) Hanamori no Oka - fictionjunction (Video)
I can see this song portrayed two different ways. One could be Yuri and Shizuku singing to Sumireā€™s spirit for forgiveness, or a duet between Aya and Kureha.
14/15.) To The Beginning or Sprinter - Both by Kalafina (Lyrics here and here)
Honestly, either of these songs would be perfect for the end of the story. Theyā€™re both hopeful and triumphant.
---
If thereā€™s any song that you would put in this list, reblog and let me know. ;)

Note
Hi Sarah, thank you for everything you have done to the Kalafina fandom until now, you're an angel.
Is there a tutorial for joining Finction Junction Station fan club? I want to apply for the next year's Yuki Kajiura live ticket lotteries an I want to be sure to have a ticket since I'll travel from a very far Country. Thank you!
Hello there lovely anon!
Tumblr media
I currently have no dedicated tutorial for Yuki's official fan club, FictionJunction Station. However, many years ago, I made a very detailed post about Kalafina's fan club "Harmony". That post was meant to help people navigate the site and register as member. Even though "Harmony" no longer exists, the basic steps described in my tutorial still apply to both Wakana's fan club "Botanical Land" as well as Yuki's fan club "FictionJunction Station". All these websites are designed by the same company, SKIYAKI, so the basic structure is the same.
Here are some main requirements before you start怈(ā€¢Ė‡ā€æĖ‡ā€¢)-ā†’
Credit Card: They do accept overseas credit cards as payment option so you'll be fine with that
Japanese Address: Find a forwarding/proxy service that will arrange everything for you. Thereā€™s tenso.com for example. You can get a Japanese address on this page which you can then use to buy things at various websites. That address can also be used to become a fan club member. They will not do transactions for you (as in, buy stuff for you, apply at ticket lotteries), they simply provide an address, store your stuff in case you buy anything and later send it to you. All your stuff will be sent to that address and then they will ship it to you (you can choose from various shipping methods). Payment for goods is also possible via credit card so you can have the merch sent to your TENSO address as well. Then there are sites like www.sosjapan.jp which will do pretty much everything for you (including payments). They will register for you under your name. They will apply for lotteries/pre-order/buy tickets or merch for you. This may actually be a better option for you but that's something you'll have to decide.
Step 1. Get your SC ID. An account will be issued by acquiring an SC ID (itā€™s free to do that!) which is required to use the service of this site. Simply click on the ā€œnew registrationā€ button and enter your e-mail address and a password. A confirmation e-mail will be sent, by clicking the link in the mail, the first part of the registration process is completed. After logging in with your SC ID, you can access ā€œMy Pageā€.
Step 2: Confirm your e-mail address. After you have confirmed your e-mail address youā€™ll receive another mail stating that the registration of your SC ID was completed. You may log in now with your mail address and password. Be aware that your registration process is not done yet. Next up you should go to ā€œMy Pageā€ to enter all your information.
Step 3: Go to ā€œMy Pageā€ to enter all your information. Regarding the name, just enter your name in Roman letters first and then in katakana (Google Translate can help you get a katakana version of your name). As for the address, the Japanese address system is quite complex and can seem intimidating at first glance but Tenso provides a few tips on how to enter it properly so be sure to check them out.
Step 4. Confirm the information and continue to the payment method. Itā€™s super simple. You have the option to pay with credit cards which is really the only option that is of interest to us. Simply choose your credit card and enter all the important data. On the right youā€™ll see the details for your payment (admission fee + annual fee, no extra fees). There's also an option to enable an automatic renewal of your membership. Only possible if you are paying with credit card. Once your year is almost over, the yearly fee will automatically be transferred from your credit card. I guess this comes in quite handy if you are prone to forget things like that easily. Lastly, thereā€™s a button to confirm the transaction and then I think youā€™ll be asked one last time to confirm all your data and THEN itā€™s DONE. You are officially a member! Youā€™ll be transferred to a page stating that the process is finished and listing some of the important data. Youā€™ll also receive an e-mail welcoming you to the fan club and summarising all your information (=> member number, expiration date, payment details, payment method)
Please also keep in mind that often, a fan club membership will not be enough to get concert tickets. Most fan clubs will use one of Japan's common ticketing services for their lotteries. With FJS it's usually Lawson Ticket or e+. It can be very difficult to register for these site since they require verification via SMS/phone call (Japanese phone numbers only!!) The payment for tickets is also pretty much impossible for overseas fans. If you are uncertain about any of this and not willing to jump through many hoops, I recommend you look into proxy services like SOSJapan (as mentioned above).
Good luck on everything! Hope you'll be able to attend one of the lives next summer. It's gonna be Yuki's 60th birthday in August so maybe they'll do something a little more special for it.

[20240330] KEIKO Insta Live #78 WITHOUT comments
I am of course biased but this was definitely one of my favourite lives. I just love this sort of beauty content. Watching Keiko do her make-up and hair is so much fun. The curls look amazing on her! (I'll admit, I am actually not the biggest fan of plain straight hair, I prefer a bit of dynamic and volume). We got a little hint of some of her upcoming solo activities. April will be dedicated to her YouTube Cover Collection. Then we have a bunch of YK stuff. For the end of summer, she plans to do a FC event that's supposed to have some sort of variety show vibe so expect it to be funny. I would assume it's gonna be similar to Keiko's Room #14 but a bit more elaborate or maybe like Wakana's FC Online Event during the summer of 2021 where she played all sorts of games. We shall see. After that, we can expect some normal lives again but she reveals nothing specific.

FictionJunction Station Express Railway Newsletter Vol.09 Scans
Here are my HQ scans of the latest FJS fan club magazine.
Vol.02 | Vol. 03 | Vol.04 | Vol.05 | Vol.06 | Vol.07 | Vol.08
ā—This is Fan Club EXCLUSIVE contentā— ā—PERSONAL USE ONLYā— Do ā—NOT SHAREā— on other sites
I haven't scanned the previous two issues (yet) because there's nothing too exciting in them. This time there's a lot of coverage of their Fan Club events and a huge interview with Yuki Kajiura and Yasunori Mori (Mr. M - Yuki's manager).
Tumblr media
I've learned so much about Yuki reading through this interview. Most of it is probably common knowledge to longtime Yuki Kajiura fans but I've always focused on Kalafina so I am by no means an expert when it comes to Yuki herself. I initially started reading this to find out whether they would say something interesting about Kalafina but they didn't really. Of course there was a substantial section dedicated to them but it was mostly stuff we already knew. As for Yuki, I particularly liked the part where they talked about their very first years together, how she and Mori met and how Yuki ended up signing up with Space Craft in 1993. I had no idea she had such a rough start to her career. Apparently no one was interested in See-Saw's music in the 90s because it was too hard to sing. That's one of the main reasons Chiaki Ishikawa decided to pursue a solo-career instead. During the first few years, she was still living with her parents, taking on part-time jobs and living off of roughly a thousand dollars a month from her music, making much less than during her previous job as office worker. Yuki praises Mori and Space Craft for always having her back, for being straightforward with her, for never making any false promises, for having enormous patience with her, for never forcing her to take on work that didn't interest her, for ensuring she was able to gain experience and steadily build a solid catalog for herself instead of smothering her with countless job offers just to milk her. She didn't get a good gig until 1998 when she was offered to do the soundtrack for a Playstation series called "Yarudora - Double Cast". Her earlier jobs hadn't brought in a lot of money but since the game was distributed by Sony she got to sign a very lucrative royalty contract (according to Yuki, Sony are apparently very adamant about music creators beings paid fairly). From then onwards, she was free of all her debts. Her next big breakthrough was her collaboration with Yuuka on Gundam SEED. Yuki says that if "Akatsuki no Kuruma" hadn't been such a huge hit, she would never have been offered the Kara no Kyoukai project which ultimately resulted in the birth of Kalafina.
Those of you who have been around for a while know that I've always been somewhat of an advocate for Space Craft and this interview just enforces my opinion of them. They have done some shitty stuff of course but overall they are pretty decent as far as Japanese talent agencies are concerned. Yuki then goes on to talk about her strong desire to remain at Space Craft for however long it would take to repay all the kindness that she received. That might explain why she was with them for such a long time (she signed up with them back in 1993)
Tumblr media
Regarding Kalafina, here are some of the highlights:
Sony was close to despair when they held their audition for Kalafina because none of the singers had the necessary skill-set to sing Yuki's music which is pretty much how Wakana and Keiko got their appointed positions (because they had already had experience working with her)
Maya was eventually deemed unfit for this type of work because she was still in high school at that time
Kalafina was Yuki's all-time favourite project because she got to do whatever she wanted. There were no taboos whatsoever. Even when it came to tie-ins and insert songs, she had a lot of creative freedom because most of the creators in charge trusted her judgement.
I wish they had at least mentioned Yuki's departure from Space Craft and the "disbandment" but I guess they didn't wanna go there...
