if you're still interested in writing prompts i recently read the mcspot tuukka task/anton khudobin fic where tuukka's nesting drives anton into ALSO nesting and i haven't been able to stop thinking abt goalies nesting with each other for days. any of those seeking affection prompts would be incredible, but the reaching-out-to-hold-hands one. man. it would be so amazing if you were interested!!!!!!

anon. are you me. i just reread that one recently too lmao its a fucking BANGER. anyway, here's swaymark with crisis nesting linus!!!

Linus has always been a gentle nester. He can feel his brain quieting down the day before it starts, so he has ample time to gather the materials he needs, and set himself up either at home, or the nesting room at the rink.

He'll usher a teammate or three into the room right before he goes completely nonverbal, and tuck them in with a happy trill. He'll patrol the door and hallway for a while, stick in hand but never used, and then settle into the nest and doze happily with his friends.

It's been like that for his entire professional career- he's never swung a stick at someone, or tried to bite a teammate that came to close. He's one of the gentlest nesters in the league.

Until someone crashes his net during a game, and something in his head snaps.

Crisis nesting.

With a guttural roar, he lunges for the opposing player that crashed his net. He had dropped his stick in the initial hit, and his crisis nesting hind-brain considers it long gone, otherwise the player would be in big trouble. Linus grabs onto the players' jersey with both hands, and slams them down on the ice brutally. Stop, stop, it's okay!

The sea of opposing jerseys swarms the crease, and Linus whips his head up, growling loudly.

There is someone he did not invite in his net.

Linus' eyes roll wildly in their sockets, one hand still pressing the first player- Tkachuk, that's Matthew Tkachuk, you've protected him before, calm down!- down to the ice, trying to find his stick for safety, protection, something to defend himself with.

There!

He kicks his leg out, using the heel of his skate to slide his stick closer. He doesn't notice someone skating up behind him, and grabbing onto the player under his hand, and yanking him away until it's too late. Linus snarls angrily, and tries to lunge for the offending player, but familiar white jerseys are finally surrounding him. Yes, it's your team, it's them! Don't hurt them!

"Hey, hey, Ully, it's okay! He's gone, Tkachuk is gone, and no one is going near your net, okay?" Someone speaks. Linus growls low in his throat, a warning to the red jerseys nearby. He pokes his stick out at the red jerseys violently, sending them scattering. Good.

"Ully, c'mon, we gotta get you off the ice, buddy." The same voice from before speaks, and oh dear. He doesn't like that. He lunges for the voice, uncaring if it's a teammate because that is his nest. He doesn't leave his nest.

No, that's Marchy! That's your captain!

The white jerseys around him scatter too, and that soothes something in his mind, but- where-?

A new jersey skates close, slowly. The bulkiness tells Linus it's a goalie. A teammate goalie. Jeremy! DO NOT-

A quiet trill breaks through the voice in his head. Linus answers back with a low grunt.

A hand, bare of a blocker or glove or stick, is offered. Linus knows this hand.

He offers his hand back, his blocker, but keeps his stick in his other hand. Their hands slot together easily, Jeremy's hand being swallowed up by the big blocker, but Linus can feel his partner's fingers closing on his palm and wrist. The closest they can get to holding hands in their current positions.

Jeremy coos, skating close and bumping his forehead against Linus' helmet gently. Linus rumbles a purr, and goes when Jeremy tugs him out of the crease.

I am also not not interested in Bedard but also struggle with *waves hands at the Blackhawks' everything* - but there HAVE been some interesting/entertaining interactions so far (Matthew bullying him, Flower tripping him, Marchand trying to kidnap him for the Bruins à la McSpot fic, his deep discomfort/confusion during that one interview with Croz, and if memory serves, an oddly homoerotic video on a team bus with some guys from juniors) and I would be interested in seeing more of it - outside of his disgrace of a team.

you and me and on the same page here, anon! i would throw onto your list, obviously, mcdavid and draisaitl adopting him during summer training, but for some reason all of these interactions with the older, established guys in the league are so entertaining to me. it does not have the same vibes as mcdavid's rookie year! i can't put my finger on why it's different but i am having a good time, as long as i don't look directly at the blackhawks for too long.

oh baby okay i got you!!! i had to narrow these down from a long ass list and yet i still got a little carried away lol. i'll start out with my favorite leafs fics and then i'll throw in some of my favorite fics of all time in general. under the cut!!!

once in twenty lifetimes by coastalhighway: i love a rarepair. jt/mo. another jt charactery study-type fic (can you tell i love jt character studies lol) with added fantasy elements (magic, werewolves, vampires, etc you know). really really fantastic read, and i love the tknp fic that's part of the series too!

are there any authors or fics (doesn't need to be t&c) you would recommend reading? your writing style is truly incredible so am curious what you like to read

hm. hm. I have no tc recommendations because the last tc fic I read was on a scale of one to ten and i believe that was. two years ago lmao. Also outside of fanfiction which I do not read as often as I once did I think the last five books I've read have all been either poetry or essays, so I think thats probably more of an indicator of where my style comes from, BUT!

my guilty pleasure is mafia and/or spy AUs because I am an action movie fan at heart. honourable mentions in that genre include; the deep end (gets trauma in a way fanfiction rarely does), fall and fixture (masterclass in characterisation), this thing of ours (this only 20k but it feels like 70k and i mean that as a compliment), officer of the watch (adjacent to the genre but. something something trauma)

these are all great but I don't recommend them unless you want to feel profoundly sad for the rest of the evening; Adorned (do not let the summary deter you), Still and Again (gave me a stomach ache, literally made my teeth hurt), A Long, Long Getaway (also anything by mcspot), And Never Been Kissed, steal the air out of my lungs (make me feel it), three rounds and a sound, Once More With Feeling, sweet kisses I’ve got to spare

it is safe to say that if i do not have fic recs, i am probably dead 😂 recently, i read and very much enjoyed:

the entirety of Fire Season (baseball rpf, 130k) on which i owe comments but have not quite been able to figure out how to express my admiration. it’s a good, hard read and it shredded me. 

on the hockey side, How to Keep a Kept Man (Kevin Labanc/Timo Meier, 22k) which did not look like my thing but i have learned to just trust i will enjoy anything McSpot writes at this point.

both Mac and Dennis Get a New Apartment (always sunny, 60k) and Mac and Dennis Conduct an Experiment (always sunny, 36k). i went in with low expectations because imo always sunny is one of those canons that is hard to write well for because the tone is so specific, and also i’m not particularly fannish about it (i have seen episodes but i don’t watch it consistently and never have). however, imo this author walks the difficult line of writing fic that harmonizes with the show even as it departs tonally from it. 

I also whole-heartedly recommend anything in my ao3 bookmarks that you haven’t read before! :)

Since I posted that question a little bit ago, I’ve read exactly one metric ton of fic, sparked by the fic River for the Sea by LoveLeah, which is a masterpiece and made me fall down a pretty serious Nolan/TK rabbit hole. It’s college AU which I consider myself to be an expert on 😂 Nolan is a poet 🥺 the poems are so good.

honestly i only found it because i'm (slowly but surely) going through the hrpf tag from it's start in chronological order. it is a way to avoid my marked from later, actually, and i'm only in spring of 2015 so there's awhile yet to go el oh el
