oh baby okay i got you!!! i had to narrow these down from a long ass list and yet i still got a little carried away lol. i'll start out with my favorite leafs fics and then i'll throw in some of my favorite fics of all time in general. under the cut!!!

parentheses all clicking shut by theundiagnosable: i literally am of the belief that this is The Best leafs fic of all time. i think about this fic every single day. it's an android au and jt character study with background relationships and literally everything about it is perfect. no notes.

safe as houses by theundiagnosable: you know what i would recommend everything written by theundiagnosable. this is a mitch/aus spy au. incredible levels of angst and lore. another fic i've thought about every day since i read it

once in twenty lifetimes by coastalhighway: i love a rarepair. jt/mo. another jt charactery study-type fic (can you tell i love jt character studies lol) with added fantasy elements (magic, werewolves, vampires, etc you know). really really fantastic read, and i love the tknp fic that's part of the series too!

Instead, Tyson is going to spend it with half of his team at a horse ranch in the middle of nowhere. It's not the weirdest thing this team has done, at least, not until the weird noises start, followed by the unshakable feeling that someone's watching.

are there any authors or fics (doesn't need to be t&c) you would recommend reading? your writing style is truly incredible so am curious what you like to read

hm. hm. I have no tc recommendations because the last tc fic I read was on a scale of one to ten and i believe that was. two years ago lmao. Also outside of fanfiction which I do not read as often as I once did I think the last five books I've read have all been either poetry or essays, so I think thats probably more of an indicator of where my style comes from, BUT!

my guilty pleasure is mafia and/or spy AUs because I am an action movie fan at heart. honourable mentions in that genre include; the deep end (gets trauma in a way fanfiction rarely does), fall and fixture (masterclass in characterisation), this thing of ours (this only 20k but it feels like 70k and i mean that as a compliment), officer of the watch (adjacent to the genre but. something something trauma)

these are all great but I don't recommend them unless you want to feel profoundly sad for the rest of the evening; Adorned (do not let the summary deter you), Still and Again (gave me a stomach ache, literally made my teeth hurt), A Long, Long Getaway (also anything by mcspot), And Never Been Kissed, steal the air out of my lungs (make me feel it), three rounds and a sound, Once More With Feeling, sweet kisses I’ve got to spare

Since I posted that question a little bit ago, I’ve read exactly one metric ton of fic, sparked by the fic River for the Sea by LoveLeah, which is a masterpiece and made me fall down a pretty serious Nolan/TK rabbit hole. It’s college AU which I consider myself to be an expert on 😂 Nolan is a poet 🥺 the poems are so good.

how winning is done (by jolach) read by frecklebombfic is a travis konency/nolan patrick fic and it's such a gem-the podficcer also picked out the perfect song for the intro that just sets the tone so well

the ballad of the worst barista in the worst cafe in detroit (by thescrewtapedemos) read by annapods is an andreas athanasiou/tyler bertuzzi fic where one of them isn't a hockey player/coffee shop au, and it has a lot of fun audio added in to really enhance listening-annapods does that in a lot of fics and it always is really fun

my unicycle has one wheel (by mcspot) read by annapods is a brock boeser/elias pettersson fic where elias is a wiggle. it's fun and absurd and i think that annapods nails the comedic timing in it

life in living color (by catchascatchcan) read by matriaya is a radio show au that's kind of like a love actually style take? pairings are uhhh carter hart/kevin hayes, travis konecny/nolan patrick, scott laughton/michael raffl, and joel farabee/morgan frost. matriaya straight up nailed the delivery of hardhitting lines in this

never going back again (by lilcrickee) read by ofjustimagine is a lawson crouse/travis konecny roadtrip fic, and ofjustimagines intersperses the driving mix mentioned in the fic throughout and it's just so well executed

throw me on the first line (by lotts) read by lotts is my all time favorite fake dating fic ever, and it's zach hyman/willy nylander. i did embarrass myself on twitter by talking about that where they could see it rip 2 me but they do such a great job with reading and the emotion they convey in their tone is *chef's kiss*

summary:  Nicke let Sasha pick him up in a bar in Arlington in late 2007. He let Sasha convince him to move in with him in the summer of 2009, after Nicke finished his sophomore year and the Caps lost to the Penguins in the second round of the playoffs.

In the spring of 2011, Nicke graduated with a Bachelor’s in information technology, and Sasha asked Nicke to marry him. In the summer of 2012, they got married in Sweden, the only one of their three communal countries where it was legal.

On June 7th, 2018, the Washington Capitals won the Stanley Cup. On July 9th, Nicke asked Sasha for a divorce.

The papers were signed by the end of the summer.

why i love it: i don’t normally read nicke/ovi, but i do happily read anything written by ao3 user mcspot (and honestly.....y’all should do the same) but this is such a heartbreaking fic. i love that it’s from nicke’s perspective, that you get to see him struggle with how he feels for ovi and doing what’s best for him, and how once he decides he’s not willing to compromise his own happiness for that of his partner, he stick with it. it still has a happy ending, because i’m me and i love that shit, but it’s such a great journey to go on.
