A Home by the Sea x
Summary: Love isn't enough to keep a relationship alive, especially in the darkness of war, fear, and atrocity. And moving on--particularly as parents--requires more strength than anyone is given proper credit for. (Newt & Tina over the years, in England and America, and their children. // With attention to memory, individual & cultural trauma, and mental health.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Excerpt:
Tina kept her memories from childhood in two letterboxes under their bed.
Newt kept his at the bottom of a drawer of mismatched socks in the basement.
Both were studded with different types of sorrows, and joy:
Newt had gone quiet when Tina first showed him her parents’ funeral program, a portrait of the family centered on the cover dated 1909, Tina’s dark eyes young and bright as she glanced up at the gentle curve of her mother’s kind lips.
He’d pressed a hand against her knee as he read through Queenie’s guardianship papers, that thing she’d fought for so hard in court, all alone apart from Lally, when she was just 17—
(Had smiled brilliantly to watch her in a photograph, standing straight-backed and proud in a group of twelve men, beneath the label ‘MACUSA Auror Training Program: 1922 Graduating Class’.)
In turn, Tina had bit her lip when Newt handed over his first discharge papers from the St. Mungo’s Children’s Ward (1903-12-11: unusual variety of intermittent idiocy unaffected by corrective spell or potion - incurable’), yellowed by age and ill-handled.
She’d hmmed in sympathy as she skimmed his report of the incident that shut down his unit and killed a half-dozen dragons and their caretakers when he’d just turned twenty—
(Had grinned to find his fourth-year photo with an herbology award from school. Lovingly framed by his mother even after his expulsion, she’d kept it on her wall until the day that she died.)
(And so Newt took that photo of Tina’s auror graduation and hung it on the wall by their marriage certificate. And Tina subsequently dusted off Newt’s framed childhood award and hung it right below them both, which made him roll his eyes, but press a kiss to her cheek, run a thumb across her lips, smile.)

❄️🌊Arctic Sea Nymph Danny🌊❄️
Let’s go, so Danny somehow ends up in the arctic because of the Usual ( GIW got to bad, Bad Fenton everyone got murked etc) and starts to hang out with the wild life around there and somehow ends up getting adopted by the local siren population, and now to the DC part of this so Danny and his siren parents or well pack as the siren what him to call them ( Danny starts to understand them but to people who haven’t been around sirens long enough it just sounds like growls and screaming to them) anyway so Aquaman hears about a sea nymph who’s been living in the Arctic and been adopted by a siren pack who are mind you VERY violent when it comes to outsiders around them and their pack so Aquaman goes to investigate it and finds Danny being all mysterious and mystical and than you all know what happeneds next ✨Misunderstandings✨
Now for what Danny looks like something like this
Tumblr media
(Looking all mystical and shit)and well wearing something like this
Tumblr media
Also just for a treat there is what I’m thinking the sirens look like a mix of this and
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just imagine darker hues on the second pic. And for the cavern it looks something like this
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I like this concept so I’ll probably add more in a another post anyway

How do you think Oikawa covers how obsessive he is when Settle reader is giving birth in the hospital? Or would he be a home birth type of guy? I feel like it would be so hard for them to act like a normal couple alongside Hatori with so many medical professionals around them with their eyes on her
i think he'd be more of the expensive, private clinic type. the ones where they doctors and staff are known for their discretion – paid too well to raise an eyebrow at any odd behaviour or comments, that sorta thing

I'll bite and talk about something that doesn't get enough spotlight in general, which are Demetri's and Eli's family life. So obviously several fic authors have their own twists and flavors to this, but if I may sell you something for a sec.
So far into the series, what we've got are these facts:
Demetri's Mom is the only family member to be mentioned in the show.
Eli's parents were mentioned a couple of times.
That should be enough context to deduce two things:
Demetri could be an only child to a single mother, and;
Eli's parents involve themselves in the stuff that he does — including karate, who knows — though they tend to be tone deaf with his actual needs.
There's strong evidence to why the boys act the way they act (brain functions notwithstanding, but this isn't the post for that), which is why I think these deductions make sense. How their hypothetical upbringing is part and parcel to how characters behave in this series. Of course societal influence comes in second because obviously you've got a show that encourages learning karate as defense against bullies, but this show is also about generational chains and traumas! So why wouldn't their home life inform the way it informs the LaRusso's, Lawrence's, and Nichols'? But I digress.
Tumblr media
In the span of the entire series, I've held onto this headcanon that Demetri's neuroticism and ability to anticipate his actions carefully stem from a household that needs these systems in place, much more for someone who likes to be on top of things. Since he's just a student, the only authoritative figure who can make executive decisions... is his mom. Add to the fact that she may be a working mom, so when Demetri tells Daniel about certain restrictions in learning karate, what could have made her decide to just write a letter instead vs. taking the time out to go with his son herself? I know I know it's narrative writing but like do you seeeee where I'm at here
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eli's family life is by far gave us early indications of his dynamic with his mother — but not so a father — in earlier seasons. It's possible that his mom is a stay-at-home one, but if I were to push the bounds of this box even further, I'd even speculate that she's retired early if it meant that Eli's dad is the one making most of the living. Like of course they'd get mad at Hawk for getting a tattoo at his age, I think any parent would! But the way he tells Aisha to exclude him from her stories tells us that there's not a lot that his parents know about the life he lives as Hawk. At this point we all know the kind of effort it takes to successfully carry it out because he has to go home every night. It's either he a) puts in a lot of effort into concealing this identity once he gets home, or b) his parents are rarely ever home, which again, feeds into another assumption that maybe Mrs. Moskowitz works certain hours.
All we know is they're never around a whole lot for these boys, which is sad! and also again, very Indicative of their classification as awkward nerds pre- and early karate. When I read along certain fics that consider and include how the rest of their characters besides the found families they've formed, it gives much more depth and potency to writing them, their flaws, and how they think.
For all we know, Mrs. Alexopoulos could be a lesbian making fun of her son for not slinging pussy like she does being rizzless unlike her, but don't let me explain that when we have @demetriandelibinaryboyfriends!

I always see these posts about Maedhros and Elwing, like yes both leap to their deaths clutching a Silmaril and I adore the foil allegories, but what of Maglor??
My tiktok feed has been playing that one fan Odysseus song, the "get in the water, or ill raise the tides so high all of Ithaca will die" song, and I cant help but just picture Maglor, at the ends of his rope, covered in Ambarussa's blood, the youngest son of Feanor again after spending an untold amount of time being the second oldest, just going still and deadly at Elwing
Hes no Luthien, no half Maia that can pluck at the threads of reality like one can a harp, but he is the best Singer of the Noldor, and depending on who you ask, of all of the First Born. One of the only Sons of Feanor with an affinity for water while the rest burn, but that doesn't mean he can't become a rolling boil.
Once the final breath of Ambarussa escapes their lungs, oh the Scream Maglor will have let go. Just as a drowning person will grasp at anything to keep them afloat, even to the point where they may drown their rescuer just to keep their head above the waves, Maglor’s scream PULLS
All the water surrounding this costal city would Lurch, would rush and flood and crash upon the city walls. The streets, already run red with blood, would become knee deep blood pools. These red rivers would part before him and his echoing dirge, his siren wailing, the bloody waves would lap at his feet with every step he would take up Elwing's tower.
He would corner her, eyes blazing with the same light that she clutches desperately to her chest, to her heart, and Maglor wouldn't care about the Jewel, he's already lost so much to it that if he held it himself he would just toss it into the waves anyways, let it sink to the black depths where it belongs.
No, Maglor would pin her on the balcony, block her exits so all she can see is the blood stained water seeping around his feet, inching towards her, and the furious roar and crash of the raging ocean behind. He would hum, a disarming little song, and the waves seem to surge upwards, reaching towards the tower balcony on beat. The spray of the waves would splatter across her back, would mist Maglor’s face, the salt of the ocean mixing with the salt of his tear stained face. He would look at her, dripping in water and blood, both of his brothers and his enemies, and he would sing one little line, a command more like.

yknow a really old fic idea i still might go ahead with was a bit of a phantom hourglass/links awakening crossover where somehow marin (pre events of la) gets transported to the great sea post-ph and picked up by link and linebeck, and they have to figure out a way to get her home

CS Fic Rec Monday: "his sea of stars" by: @the-reason-to-sail-home
This one really and truly enchanted me, like some sort of modern day fairy tale or fable. It tugged at my heartstrings and didn't want to let me go, even once I had finished reading. I love the way an old tale is woven into the solution to their trial in the present. And the power of our favorite couple’s love to overcome any barrier and to reach each other again no matter what stands in the way is portrayed so beautifully in this. Though it has been published for some time, it was new to me and recently discovered, so I wanted to help others find it too… just in case they had been missing out like I had.

omg I just realized today is my fic-versary 🥹 baby's very first fic is exactly a year old! a toddler! this is so self-indulgent and I'm sorry but idk I'm soft!!
I'm such an anxious perfectionist to the point where it hinders my daily life in the worst way and I've never felt like I had any creative talents at all but still... I wrote something! I shared it! And then I kept writing! I'm proud of myself for that, I'll own it. And I hope I'm getting better the more I go (I hit post and don't look back unless it's a multi-chapter where I have to reread to remember wtf I wrote... I haven't gotten there yet).
And I've met the coolest fucking people through fic and fandom 😭😭 Not just others to bounce ideas off of and share techniques, but also people who are my very real-life friends on and off the screen. 💖♥️
I've learned so much about what works and doesn't work for me and what works for other people and it's all so interesting! My fic goal for last year was just to write, period. Get the ideas out of my head because fic-writing feels like a disease compulsion sometimes, and I need to ramble without thought or plot and just get used to translating thoughts into worbz.
My fic goal for this year is to be more intentional in what I write and to work on creating longer pieces that are more structured, fleshing out certain aspects that I feel are my weaker points, etc.
And yeah... of course it was VC; of course it was L/A; of course it was Armand indulging Lestat being in mood by letting him dress him up in a corset and lipstick -- I was a one-trick pony long before I knew it.

i’m interested in how oikawa isolates his darling (and his child!!) in settle/sea change
like how you included that detail about oikawa not liking when the reader takes hatori to the park,, and his reaction to the reader’s phone call home,, i’m obsessed with his possessiveness
now i can’t stop thinking about all the doctor appointments the reader probably should be going to or even how the baby’s going to be delivered,, ((especially after the run away attempt at the end of sea change))
prior to sea change, he probably would've let you go to a private hospital and have the full like suite of doctors and nurses at your beck and call
post runaway, on the other hand 👀 tooru absolutely wouldn't compromise on quality in terms of the care he's expecting (and paying for). the personal ethics of said medical team tho?? much less of a concern 😌

A Home by the Sea
Written for the r/FanctionExchange fest. The prompt was "vision and light."
Snippet:
"This is it, Moony…the beginning of our lives as beach bums." Sirius didn't know when he'd gotten sentimental. Perhaps somewhere between escaping from prison, reuniting with Remus and Harry, and fighting a second war. He figured allowances could be made for sentimentality given all of that.
But as he leaned against Remus, watching the light of the sun disappear over the ocean horizon, on their newly refurbished veranda, he felt he wouldn't have changed anything.
It wasn't always so.

💐💐💐💐💐!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
from this list! i'll be writing a few more mini-fics today if i can help it
you expected one of the second chance guys to get flowers BUT IT WAS THE OC, ROS
~476 words
-
There is a split second in which seeing the visage of Shadow at his doorstep is enough to fill Roscoe with a reflexive anxiety.
This world and this time and this place are different, though. The moment passes.
"You're not one to show up unannounced," Ros tells him, front door held open wide enough to entertain his guest.
Shadow makes no indication he expects to be let inside. "And you're not one to admit when you're not feeling well." He carries with him a shallow box containing a potted flower of some sort, and what is no doubt a packet of its seeds. "So I thought I'd cut out the part where you deflect it with jokes."
Straightforward as always. Ros isn't sure yet whether he liked it better when people let him get away with pretending, or if Shadow's way of handling it is preferable. At least this way, he doesn't have to admit to feeling anything other than cold. At least this way, he can more gracefully accept that which he knows he shouldn't reject. Care, attentive concern, simple warmth—he deserves them all, foreign as the concept is. But to have it delivered by Shadow of all people still, even months after coming to terms with the fact this iteration has no reason to hate him, sets his head spinning.
"Okay, you got me," the cat holds up shaky hands in playful surrender. "So what's up with the flower?"
Shadow meets his eyes briefly with a look that suggests the question strikes him as odd. Don't you like flowers? Don't you already nap in fields of them often? Isn't that how we met?
"The scent works like ginger," he explains plainly. The box and its supplies and potted something-or-another is held up for Ros to either take or get a better look. "It isn't too overpowering. But a few minutes with it should help settle your stomach. I brought extra seeds in case you ever want to plant more."
Ros doesn't have the heart to tell him the queasiness brought on by medication side-effects is the least of his concerns. But Shadow means well, and Ros gives him a weary smile for it as he accepts the box.
The single flower in the clay pot painted in earthen-toned stripes is equally simple in its complexity. Five small petals, each off-white with yellowish-lime veins near the middle, an evergreen-shade stalk dotted with extra buds between dandelion-like leaves. Ros finds it not only "works like" ginger root, but inspires a familiarity in scent. Spicy-sweet; pungent but not an assault on unprepared senses.
The more he thinks about it, the more he accepts Shadow may be onto something. Maybe the point is that he shouldn't have to endure something unpleasant, even if it's mild, even if he's "used to it".
Maybe he'll start his own garden here.
