"lewis is passionate about human rights" awesome hobby, man, but fia president doesn't think so, so maybe try knitting instead?

this is the best race this year. the incredibly late action of the stewards and race director on the mirror in the middle of the road, the damage bottas sainz and hamilton got from the mirror, the amount of penalties, the beautiful overtakes in the beginning, lando’s stop/go penalty, lewis hamilton (i don’t even have to elaborate), max verstappen winning, george russell out of contention on the first corner—
beautiful. this is the peak of motorsport, right?

Of course the only time a first lap incident is punished and not let go being a first corner incident is when the fia can slap a penalty on max :’)

So they can't call a red flag when a driver is stranded in his car laying on the side on the track but suddenly real quick for barrier repairs?

Seeing the same people who perpetuated or sent vicious misogynistic hate to Hannah Schmitz, as well as disgusting racist abuse towards Yuki and Alex because of FUCKING CONSPIRACY THEORIES and those who just straight up ignored it, now up in arms regarding whatever the fuck is going on between the FIA and the wolffs is beginning to piss me off. Because now that it's not someone red bull affiliated involved, it's somehow now unacceptable.

it is absolutely RIDICULOUS what they’re doing to Sainz, I mean the guy gets MASSIVE floor damage from a DRAIN that has not been checked properly by FIA and he gets a fucking penalty of 10 POSITIONS because he has to change batteries
THIS IS PURE CLOWNERY
as the italian commentator Davide Valsecchi said it’s absolutely unacceptable and ridiculous

“Karma is a wonderful thing.”
I am praying for Redbull downfall idc that’s such a gross message. I don’t think you can really say Lando not slowing under yellows is a safety concern whilst leaving debris in the middle of the straight especially when 2 cars had punctures and you didn’t call the safety car to prevent those punctures. Then it took so long for them to give Lando the penalty, knowing that the longer they waited the less laps he had to recover. Unreal🤡🤡🤡

Remember when in Brazil, the condition with the rain were so bad that the drivers were basically begging for a red flag or to end the race, poor Ollie was scared for his life. That would be seen as an insurection and would deduct him or anyone else who spoke out championship points. Most of whom were rankings 5 or under in the constructors and are crucial in their prize money at the end of the season.
Or during Qatar, where the new race director didnt immediately bring out the safety car after Alex's wing mirror fell, ruining several drivers races. Had anyone spoken out against that decision they would've been fined and had points deducted.
Fuck the FIA.
Remember when Max was being bitchy and giving short answers to the press in retaliation to his fine ? Under the new rules that could be seen as "protest" and will result in bigger fines. Even silence could be interpreted as protesting.
Remember after the 2024 Australian gp when George post-race spoke to the press about how it was irresponsible for the red flag to go out so late when he was stuck in the middle of the track and that we needed better safety precautions ? Under the new rules that could be seen as a violation of article 12.2.1.f ISC.
You know how Lewis races with a rainbow on his helmet for Pride Month ? How he has taken the knee ? How he wears political shirts when tensions are high ? All of these actions now require approval from the FIA, and if they are carried out without their blessing, it will result in a €10,000 fine and a humiliating public apology.
Fuck the FIA. Fuck Mohamad Bin Sulayem

Like yes, it is understandable why they red flagged the race. But it happened so quickly??? While in Australia it kinda seemed like "oh yeah we told the drivers to be cautious through the yellow flags that's enough right?" as if we have learned absolutely nothing ???? This is supposed to be a safety first thing for crying out loud

Okay in all the drama of yesterday's race I feel like we overlooked the F1 movie teaser and we need to talk about what the hell was going on in that.
So we start with 60yo racer Brad Pitt telling the audience and uh someone else that their car is beat on the straights by "Red Bull, Ferrari, Mercedes, Aston and now Mclaren" (as an Alpine fan I understand the plight) and that their only chance of beating the other teams is to battle in the turns and I quote "we need to build our car for combat" (never underestimate Americans and their ability to turn something into a war analogy)
After that bizzare statement the following exchange occurs:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah fuck safety!! The FIA is actually involved with the making of this film if you're wondering.
From here on there isn't actually anymore dialogue and it's just a bunch of racing and track team shots set to 'We will Rock You'. It was here that it dawned on me that this movie is gonna be super bizzare. Despite all the noise about them filming on track at live race weekends it never occured to me the other drivers and teams would actually feature in it. I'm not even sure what I thought they were going to do but I assumed it would involve a lot of CGI.
Tumblr media
But nope turns out this is actually just a strange self-insert film where an 11th team featuring 60yo Brad Pitt and his younger teammate will compete against real F1 drivers? The $300 million budget is starting to make sense - maybe they had to pay the other drivers a salary. I think one glaring problem with this is that it means there won't be other characters in the movie (excluding team members of the fake team) because the other drivers and team members are uh real people? Now that would be fine if it was a biopic like Rush where everyone are actors but here we have 2 actors and 20 real drivers (who are quite literally at work btw) and any interaction between them and the actors is gonna break the immersion of the film so badly.
Tumblr media
Sidenote here's one of the Apex cars abusing a Williams - not the kind of behaviour that endears me to either of the fake drivers ngl. Probably should have picked a more disliked team to clown on.
Now I actually went and read an interview with the 2 directors to try and work out what is going on. At one point in this interview, Jerry Bruckheimer says: "It’s the only sport where your teammate is also your competitor, and that’s great drama in itself. Just think about that; you’re fighting with your own teammate for a place on the podium. And everything we use in the movie actually happened in an F1 race. Nobody can say: ‘That would never happen.’ It happened."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So in other words the teammates will fight and it will be based on real life events? Yeah unfortunately I'm getting Perez and Ocon in Force India vibes from that (those 2 shots pretty similar huh).
Tumblr media
There was also this in the interview which is... I mean I don't really know what to take from this but it's certainly interesting. As an Ocon fan this quite literally strikes fear into my heart (why was he of all drivers named...) but we'll have to wait and see I guess.

f175 recap:
cos we're doing this again!
Top 11 moments (good and bad, cos honestly my thoughts are too scattered rn for any sorting system):
LEWIS AND CHARLES AND FRED AND FERRARI - the car looked great, no notes, lewis absolutely beaming in red was wonderful, i loved that charles like straight up announced his intent to win a wdc this year, and am willing to sacrifice, pray, voodoo, etc to make it happen
THE FIA GETTING BOOED. AGAIN, EVERY FAN WHO WENT TO F175 WHO CONTRIBUTED TO THE BOO IS A FUCKING LEGEND. F1 history was made fr.
gordon ramsey coming out in support of drivers swearing, subsequently you can watch him make the CONSCIOUS decision to swear, and then his mic getting cut. pure cinema. gordon ramsey is an incredible icon.
lando norris pr, you continue your success story. he was a great spokesperson for mclaren today, and honestly i think he can stop pointing out his point deficit to max now as he gets ready for this new season. for better or for worse, he WAS P2 last year, and in his first ever truly competitive season. mclaren got a lot of the strategy right, and lando learned a lot. he can stand to be more assertive as he gears up for the season.
mercedes. if your 'special moment' for the livery reveal was gonna be a pitstop. it had to be a good pitstop. unfortunately. it was not. so it was just kinda awkward.
BUT mercedes redemption arc, the family reunion on the red carpet with lewis was super adorable
VCARB intro video was legitimately funny. would have loved to see the driver's reactions to that.
alpine dj was...just really weird. kept panning to old retired drivers and just other miscellaneous senior citizens who looked like edm might put them into an early grave.
ollie bearman!!! that's it that's the tweet
mattia binotto fucking jumpscare. every time i see this man i panic. 2022 comes rushing back. charles leclerc must have legal permission to kick this man in the shins. he keeps haunting the narrative like a weird undead clown
real question, what kind of absolute blackmail does max have on christian that he did not have to answer the inane bs questions on stage. just showed up, waved and left! like an icon. followup, why tf did they surround the red bull car with like thirty twink breakdancers??
Honorable mention: holy YAP christian horner how did you spend three minutes of live airtime on the rolling stones???
key takeaways: it was honestly fucking fun. you had to turn your brain off and just let yourself enjoy it, taking it too seriously ruins the whole thing. gave strong hunger games vibes but still, was a cute way to kick off the season for sure. hope they don't do this every year but for the occasion it was def worth the effort.
