Asterios
Men are born and Monsters made
But somewhere in between
I have found myself forgotten
Rarely heard and never seen
In the silence of the stonework
In it's twisting, winding ways
I may barter with the Beast inside
To snatch a few more days
For the Man's a thing of reason
But within the Labyrinth's cold
There are secrets that the Creature
May see fit for me to hold
Though the endless walls are harrowing
And the Beast might fear the end
It's the Man who finds resolve
From deep inside that he can lend
In the end, the Labyrinth conquered
By the Beast and Boy as one
Will they call me Man or Monster
When my quest is finally done?

Asterios #1 beef boy because 1) he is a bull ≈ cow = beef so by default. yes. 2) he's 298cm tall 3) he's the ultimate sweetheart 4) have you played his interlude. he's a very profound boy he just can't talk well but that's ok because I care him so much
You know anon, this is absolutely valid. I sadly don’t know much about him nor have I played his interlude but from what I remember (in normal story) he is a real sweetheart… also his art is super cute…plus you get much to hug, a real win! Please take care of him he is really underrated, I barely see people speak about him.
#honestly I really liked his Minotaur art…. so much fluff#lowkey wanna sit down and braid it all#if only I was better at drawing fur I would draw some asterios art for you#fgo#fate grand order#asterios fgo#anon#ask

I've come to the conclusion that, in my humble opinion, Higashide is the writer in TYPE-MOON who makes the best ships involving Heroic Spirits.
Which might sound really weird. After all, the central couple in Fate/Apocrypha is Sieg/Jeanne d'Arc, and it's a pretty divisive one. No offense to those who like it, but it's always a dynamic I thought made no real sense narratively and didn't have much chemistry. Sieg on his journey of self-affirmation and personhood didn't need a romance (except maybe with Astolfo, with whom the dynamic is much more fun). Jeanne, the historical figure who rejected a marriage proposal, wore male clothing, and whose famous nickname refers to her celibacy, getting into a romance just never vibed with me (especially when it felt like the parallels/relationship between her and Shirou Kotomine were far more relevant). Add to that the ending copying Last Episode without what made LE have a strong impact, and it makes the whole even less appealing.
But despite that, Apo is also the work where there is the surprising ship of Shirou Amakusa and Queen Semiramis of all people: the semi-legendary Assyrian queen credited with making one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world falling in love with the young charismatic Japanese Christian who rebelled against the shogunate and failed. It's a very strange crossover ship between two people who never could have met if not for being brought back and it somehow works in being endearing.
(Achilles and Atalanta kinda count I guess, but it's a one-sided ship with little reasoning, that I care so little about, and is eclipsed by the more compelling foils each get, Chiron for Achilles, Jeanne for a Jackie the Ripper-driven mad Atalante.)
Higaside having grown and improved as a writer by the time of FGO, what followed this growth was him not doing a repeat of Sieg/Jeanne, but writing better ships mostly involving Servants. Asterios the Minotaur and Euryale the Gorgon; last Byzantine emperor Constantine IX and fictional Popess Johanna; heck, you can even see the relationship between Mordred and Dr. Jekyll this way (it also works as simple close friendship). Being characters from usually completely different mythologies and historical cultures, there is care done to make it clear why they fall for each other and as a result these couples are very different from one another instead of being the same formula everytime. In a game where a lot of (female) Servants are made to fall for the last Master of Chaldea for sometimes very little reason, these are a breath of fresh air.
For all my problems with her, Sakurai does something similar, though her ships are usually people who canonically were together in their legends: Sigurd/Brynhild, Aslaug/Ragnar Lodbrok, Julius Caesar/Cleopatra, Ozymandias/Nefertari, Tomoe Gozen/Kiso Yoshinaka, etc. They can be one note and there is a repeated thematic tendency of hers of writing "inhuman woman discovering humanity by falling in love", but they tend to be very cute and I easily understand that these people are in love even beyond death, so I root for them to reunite. Higashide also has "canonical" pairings, but the results are more muddled here: Siegfried and Kriemhild are adorable as a divorced couple where there are clearly still feelings, no matter what the tsundere wife says. But Rama and Sita are just...there. I understand the point of their separation, but it's not very engaging and Rama essentially disappeared after the American Singularity, while Sita was yeeted to Arcade. A mark against Higashide, but not as bad as Sieg/Jeanne and overshadowed by the numbers of better ships he wrote in FGO.
And there's Orion and Artemis, where I'm split. Super Orion and LB Artemis was really good and poignant. Orion the teddy bear and ditzy Artemis are a realy bad joke that overstayed its welcome.
FGO prioritizes Master/Servant relationships, both because the last Master of Chaldea is a blank slate for players to self insert into, and also because human×Servant is the type of ship Nasu specializes in (Shirou/Saber, Rin/Saber, Kuzuki/Caster, Caren/Angra Mainyu, and to a lesser extent Bazett/Cu, Yukika/False Assassin, and Ayako/Medusa in FSN; Fate/Extra as a whole; Ritsuka/Castoria in FGO). But even there Higashide made better choices than when he penned Sieg/Jeanne. Charlotte Corday is a surprisingly well-done choice for her archetype, it seems like it's going to be another Kiyohime but no, he actually makes her a good character you get attached to.
And then there is Kadoc and Anastasia. Words cannot describe how much I love them, how their personalities clash and complement each other in the best way, how aesthetically good they look put next to each other, etc. And it's not even just that we got a MasterxServant relationship outside Ritsuka, though that helped.
Basically, Higashide has become my go-to source for good ships, especially intra-Servants ones where Ritsuka is not involved and characters are allowed to not orbit around their Master. Sakurai also provides in that last aspect, but Higashide is doing that and also giving that crossover flavor you see in things like that one Cartoon Network ad with Johnny Bravo and Velma, and that works really well for me.

Guess I have to do all of them now.
//And I will walk through it as you ramble.
Shuichi is Ritsuka Fugimaru, male protagonist of Fgo. There's also an alternative of him of course being Sherlock Holmes. Not sure why he's the simple harem protagonist but ok. Sherlock is obvious tho.
//I mean, all of the protags have incredible harem energy, Makoto especially, but Shuichi too. It's not THAT weird to me.
Kaede is Nero Claudius (damn this would put her at really bad terms with Mahiru Boudica then). Not sure why Genderbent Nero Claudius is Kaede but I guess they are both busty blonde happy proud girls that are not actually so happy and proud deep down. Tho, I need to point out this is actually super ironic cuz Nero Claudius was historically tone deaf.
//That's funny.
Kokichi is James Moriarty, the Napoleon of Crime. This fits so well. Both of them are basically asshole yet charismatic crimelords/troublemakers and are usually the cause of everyone's problems behind the scenes. Also, going with the alternative one for Shuichi as Holmes, this fits well cuz Moriarty and Holmes are actually canon rivals. Tho double suicide is obviously off the chart.
//Yeah, that fits a little too well actually.
Ryoma is Emiya Alter. Edgelord badasses with a death wish and a dark sense of justice and always suffer cuz of it. Fits the bill.
//Makes sense.
Kurumi is Emiya. Idk why at all. The non-alter version of Ryoma's. Hero of Justice who ended up hating his own dream cuz it made him constantly kill and kill and kill as the world's personal hitman. Made him question what it means to be a Hero. How the fuck does this fit Kurumi? And how does this parallel with Ryoma by Kurumi's side over there?
//That is strange to make KIRUMI of all characters Emiya. Isn't Emiya like, a big deal in this franchise? Surely that role should go to one of the protags.
Miu is Leonardo Da Vinci. Proud beauty super eccentric inventors. Makes perfect sense.
//Miu gives off big "DA VINKY!?" energy.
Gonta is Asterius/The Minotaur. Big animalistic muscular wild men with actual soft hearts and lovable personalities. Fits the bill.
//He looks cute too.
Tsumugi is Cleopatra (oh damn this would mean Twogami Julius Caesar and her are a thing). This is solely due to the meme of them looking like each other. Tsumugi is not that fabulous and proud beauty of herself. No way Tsumugi can weaponize her own beauty sparkles and glittering to make explosions.
//I disagree with this in the case of Survivor. Zetsubou Tsumugi is SO damn full of herself, it's painful. And while I wouldn't call it "weaponizing her own beauty," Tsumugi's own powers ARE related to her appearance too.
Keebo is Charles Babbage. Two robot men. Nuff said. Tho I need to ask how well Keebo is at programming compared to the actual Father of Computer Programming.
//I misread that as Charles Cabbage. Also, to answer this, the whole point of Keebo is that he's an advanced AI and fully functioning robot that's beyond the technological advancements of the state that V3's world is in. But him not being able to do anything like shoot lasers, fly around, and do super cool comic robot stuff; therefore leaving everyone disappointed despite how actually incredible he is as a creation, is the joke.
Kaito is Thomas Edison (damn this must mean Kazuichi and Kaito argue a lot). Idk why. What does Kaito have in common with a guy who invented the common lightbulb (he actually submitted it first. Someone in Russia invented the same exact lightbulb type at the same exact time as Edison but he turned in his papers the day later compared to Edison who rushed immediately to the offices) and, do not ask me why, fused with every American President from past, present, and future and with the Warner brothers Lion to be a Super President? Kaito got the short end of the draw.
//Miu said that Thomas Edison said genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration, and Kaito sure does perspire a lot.
Maki is Jack the Ripper. Loli Jack the Ripper. One of the possible Jack the Ripper's. Not really Jack the Ripper, is actually the spiritual incarnation/accumulation of all of the dead orphans/aborted children left for dead by the millions of prostitutes in London at the time. Maki is a damn good assassin and does have a strong love/hate relationship with kids, especially orphans, but this is a bit much.
//I mean, Maki being Jack The Ripper is what I expected, if we're likening her to any historical figure, but THIS iteration? The spirit of orphans stuff makes sense, but Jesussss!?
Tenko is Ushiwakamaru/Yoshitsune. Idk about this. Both of them may be dark hair sporty types but Tenko is definitely no military general and badass master swordsman (genderbent now) known for jumping across 8 ships in a row cutting everyone down. Doesn't seem to fit the bill here.
//Makes more sense than something like L'ouvature or whatever?
Himiko is Abigail Williams. Why the fuck would Himiko be the girl who essentially started the Salem Witch Trials by blaming everyone? Himiko would been murdered on the spot if she met historical Abigail. Sure, Fgo's version of Abigail is an absolutely precious little girl who'd you so want to protect as your daughter but also has very dark personality switch cuz she's actually connected to the actual Lovecraftian Elder God Yog Sothoth, but I need more than both of them being magical witch aesthetic little girls.
//There were many speculations going around after the end of the witch trials that Abigail Williams herself was a witch all along. So Himiko COULD fit into her shoes if she was a much nastier character.
Rantaro is motherfucking Merlin. No offense but Rantaro is not deserving of the meme king dick wizard who broke the meta more than any top tier waifu. I could explain why he's nicknamed the Dick Wizard but that's a hilarious other story.
//Yes he is. Yes. He. Is.
Korekiyo is Phantom of the Opera. Sociopath Serial Killers with obsessive behaviours towards a certain girl in their lives. Makes sense.
//Makes TOO MUCH sense.
And Angie is Xuanzang. This calls into question whether Angie has a pet horse, monkey, pig, and whatever animal that "sand demon" with a (trident?) spear was. (I'm Asian American and idolized Journey to the West and even I don't know). Regardless, both are super religious and I guess get into trouble all the damn time. I can kinda see it but it could be better.
//Yeah, kind of like what I said with Tenko. It doesn't make complete sense, but it makes more sense than most stuff.

Did you see Sanrio moriarty
maybe? he was one of the sanrio/fgo crossover characters previously some years ago, but have they done so again? i did notice there was a new sanrio collab, seemingly. if they've done anything new with moriarty in that line i'd certainly like to see it.
actually unless the proverbial minotaur is also there. i do not wish to know any further information on the subject matter if he's there....

I need to make a proper report on this, cause I recently finished watching through the first lostbelt and now I am officially Invested…! I was initially just going through it and the LB prologue because I wanted context for LB6 cause I already love Oberon and I want to see him, but was told it would be best to have some additional context, but it was even better than expected, also I now have a second FGO to be obsessed with, Salieri!
I now know what a lostbelt is, and we started in Russia but ruled by Ivan the Terrible for 450 years and also everyone is a furry now because he combined everyone with demonic beasts to survive the cold wave that occurred in this lostbelt. The characters were some of the best part, I liked the cast a lot~ it sounds pretty wild to explain though cause of the nature of Fate having a bunch of famous historical figures. Also Kotomine is there lol. But it turned out not to be him but still just seeing his appearance was like huh?!
I didn’t even think much of Salieri at first, at first he thought he was Mozart and was just the guy keeping the tsar asleep, but then he gets picked up by our party and realizes his identity and joins the team under the condition he gets to kill Mozart
Turns out he’s not great at that either despite being a version of him warped by the false rumors of him being Mozart’s killer, and turned into an “innocent monster” (which is such a cool concept!) and even summoned as an Avenger class servant. But when he’s brought to the palace and remembers what happened when he confronted Mozart when he first was summoned….
YEAH. And after Mozart is literally asking him to kill him. So all his supposed hatred for him just ends up making him somehow come across as even more gay for him, he just says stuff like this
YOU’RE IN LOVE, DEAR
He has his Moments, but he seems surprisingly sane in this LB even with his jumbled memory…? Summoned Salieri seems a lot more taken over by the rumors (and Mozart just makes fun of him for it LMAO?)
The end of the lostbelt is where it really shined, we have our team of servants at the capital as the tsar awakens, Patxi came along too despite a fear so great he had earlier sold out the rebels, the tsar is awakening, Avicebron just made a golem out of the Minotaur’s labyrinth to stand a chance against him, sacrificing himself in the process (…which this also sounds wild typing it out, anyway I rather liked him, just a chill guy passionate about what he does)
I don’t think I was expecting giant demon elephant for the tsar?! Anyway THIS SCENE. THIS SCENE. THIS IS THE ONE THAT GOT ME AND MADE ME GO OH THIS STORY IS REALLY GOOD. Salieri is at the piano, he must play so they stand a chance. He speaks with Mozart in his mind, and channels all his anger into a passionate performance, Dies Irae! And what really gets me is that it isn’t even Salieri’s own (his entire Requiem is a great piece btw, highly recommend, also his attacks in game use part of his Dies Irae). No, it’s Mozart’s Dies Irae. And I believe it’s part of the requiem he died composing iirc? So Salieri is playing with all his rage in a gorgeous, passionate arrangement of it, and ITS SO GOOD!!!! And it’s the key to victory, they were able to harm the tsar now! It’s really cute when he’s all happy about Mash calling his music beautiful lol (Her return to battle here was also really cool!! Her shield protecting him from the lighting!)
And things seem to be quieting down now but it’s not quite over… Kadoc tries to make a last stand, but Anastasia ends up dying to protect him (and he seemed to genuinely care about her) and he’s knocked out, not killed, my friend is hinting that there’s gonna be more on him later…? 👀
And not just that, the cruel reality of what happens to a lostbelt in order to save proper human history came to light with Atalante and her rebels fighting back… and I can’t even blame them, it’s one of those situations where neither side is wrong, it’s the circumstances themselves…. Patxi went and got himself killed to save Chaldea’s master 😭 despite being from the LB, he wanted to help in the end? But I still can’t entirely blame those who were against it…
And finally, the ending where I cried like a little baby! The tree of emptiness was gone, the eternal storm gave way to clear skies, and the world would soon disappear. With their duties done, the remaining servants disappeared as well, except for Salieri, who still had one more thing to do…. And so he sits down at the piano, and plays Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Mozart’s dying wish to him should the world know peace. Oh Salieri, he’ll act all like:
(His scowl is so cute)
But then two seconds later:
And just. A people that had never known peace, that had never seen a clear sky and always had to worry about survival, never knowing even music, listening to his piano, and getting to see a starry sky for the first time in their lives as the world itself came to an end got me 😭
In conclusion, LB1 was really damn good and oh no I’m Invested now!! Didn’t expect this sort of quality of writing from a mobile game, it’s a proper VN…! I think I still will go to LB6 next cause I Need to see Oberon cause I love him, but now I want to see the rest of thr story too. (…and now thee friend that told me about him in the first place convinced me to play, for better or worse LOL)
#sorry this is 90% salieri posting it would get too long if I covered all 11h and he’s the new blorbo LOL#started FGO for Oberon picked up Salieri in the process#also I tried explaining parts to my friends and he’s been called ‘Mozart’s alleged gay killer’ and ‘the gay pianist’ by them so far LMAO#Infel’s fate tag#i can’t stop listening to dies irae

I've always been a bitch about the media I choose to let into my life but when it comes to why I still "play FGO" (see: log in every once in a while, say hi to my fambly and try to go through story chapters) ... its really just trying to get through the main story at this point. Like I do want to see whatever FGO is trying to do but also, I skip events like CCRAAAZZYYYY, I skipped that Samurai Remnant event and my mentee hates it too because they fumbled Chiemon's story & also I can't lie I just think its corny and nothingburger from what I've read of it, I care so little abt it... I skipped the summer events after being disappointed with the story, skipped the Wandijna event because it was culturally insensitive, rushed to finish Traum so I could do the Christmas event because I wanted Santa Nemo and the story seemed like it was pretty good there, obviously I played the Ptolemy event and I played the Beast Nero event...
the thing for me is really whether or not I feel like it ties into something I'm already interested in, obviously, and being late to the party with SR and not finding a lot that hooks me in there leaves me wondering like Why should I even be interested anyways; there's also the fact that as an English speaking fan half of the time you have to wait for translations but Also CCC just got TL'd so there's that added to the thing you have to read/play, also it just seems like.... Lasengle is fumbling the bag rn super hard, FGO needs to be console release ready at some point in the future because there's no way they're devoting all this time and work and effort to such a large installment of the series with it simply being a mobile game,
No sorry theres a new Rose writing this post now. I had to do like 2 switches while doing something else I just read the rest of this. The problem is that FGO loves not tying up loose ends. We're at the later stages of the game. Beast Nero tied up some loose ends that we've had suspicions of since F/Extra. So it was a good event and on top of it, it also added some character and resolution to the idea of a Beast, and why Beasts are summonable, and who Beasts are as spiritual origins. Santa Nemo added some extra character development to Nemo and that team and that was some well-needed warmth during the "wtf is going on" of our current storyline. The Ptolemy story also wrapped up a lot of questions about those who survived the War of the Diadochi, how they felt about that war, and how they regretted that dream but still could not dismiss it, it was an interesting story about those ideas and Theseus and the Minotaur I thought was an extremely EXTREMELY awesome story beat showing that Theseus and Asterios were not on bad terms; even if the big bad thing was kind of eehhh I still would give it a solid 8/10 plus that fight dynamic at the end was cool.
FGO needs to stop adding new shit! That's half of the problem! It needs to start thinking about wrapping up shit and developing the characters it already has. Paper Moon at least brought in some more development on Kama and the other Indian servants but falls flat in other regards. I would like to see more of the characters and plotlines that already exist being developed. Daybit isn't even dead so wtf is he doing rn?

i joke so much that my interests in fate/grand order and House of Leaves is constantly dueling it out, but then I remember the Minotaur is a 1-star Beserker-class servant in fgo. so maybe it's just fate.

Does anybody else feel like the fate grand order game did Asterios dirty when it came to his third skill and noble phantasm?
His third skill is basically his weapon which isn’t that great or special and his noble phantasm only gives him a buff and a debuff to his enemies which doesn’t fit the berserker class noble phantasm category that I know.
Usually when it comes to noble phantasms belonging to the berserker class they involve some form of regeneration, extra lives, immunity/invincibility or something that makes them a tank with the only exception being Asterios.
Hopefully if he ever makes an appearance in a proper fate anime that doesn’t belong to the “FGO story” he will have a better noble phantasm and third skill to make him more befitting of the berserker class.
Considering that Asterios has been in the game since day 1, and the only thing in his kit that has been upgraded is his NP, he has been screwed over in a way, but I think it's mostly because of what role he was in the original myth.
I remember Lapithae explained how Andromeda was just a pretty lady to be rescued in her myth, and similarly Asterios - or should I say the Minotaur - was just nothing more than a monster for Theseus to take down in his myth. That's kinda tricky to spin into a Servant with that, even with the more sympathetic takes on the Minotaur in recent years. Not impossible, just tricky (granted, we also have Beowulf, aka the ONE OF A FEW Berserkers who has never gone insane, he just likes to fight a lot like a DBZ character).
However, I don't think his NP is a problem. There's a screenshot of a gameplay video that has someone using Asterios against Abigail during her boss battle in Salem. The person is an absolute madlad (gn) for doing that, but it can still work. It's still making Asterios hard to kill, just spun into debuffing the enemies instead of buffing himself (although it wouldn't hurt if he got a really good skill upgrade).
That third skill though... yeah, I don't think I could give much a reason.
#ask#if anything I personally think that Caligula was screwed over more#man's NP didn't even relate to the actual guy#and don't get me started on how he and Artemis - DIANA'S GREEK SELF - have never interacted with each other#beyond one (1) thing that happened before he got to Olympus in LB5.2
