Short version: Firefox 35 and 75

Long version:

When I got this laptop ten years ago, I installed Firefox 35, which was the current version at that time. I then proceeded to never update it, for various reasons including "this addon I like isn't available for later versions", and it remained my main/primary browser.

(Actually I did once try to update it 45 or thereabouts, and I hated it so much I immediately reverted back.)

Over the years, some websites simply stopped working on FF35 and some would hang/crash it entirely, so I used Leechblock to block those sites so if I accidentally opened them, they would not crash me. And I started using a secondary browser for those websites.

I think my first secondary browser was Brave, because I could have it open at the same time as Firefox. Later I switched the secondary to Firefox 75 Portable Edition, because I could have it open at the same as FF35 if I did things in a specific order. (I think FF75 was not the then-current version, but it was the last available version before some change Mozilla made that I really didn't like.)

If I tried to open FF75 while FF35 was already open, it would complain there was already an instance of Firefox open and tell me to close that first. But if I opened FF75, then opened FF35, I could close and reopen FF75 without issue as long as that session of FF35 persisted. If I ever closed FF35 (or had to force quit it because of the aforementioned website hangs), I would need to repeat this process.

"But why didn't you just switch to FF75, Aje?" Several reasons. I hate change, I liked FF35, it was set up how I wanted, there was at least one addon I used that was not available in later versions. But most importantly, I had 4 GB of RAM, and if I left FF75 open for a long time, it would sometimes randomly start sucking up all the RAM and lagging my computer. So anything that sucked over 1 GB when idle was not an option for me as a main browser.

The Tumblr dashboard stopped working in FF35 when they made some changes to it in...2019? 2020? (This was not an issue for me personally because I do not use the dash to follow people, I use RSS feeds.) Post creation stopped working in FF35 in 2020, but I could still reblog. However I noticed that when I reblogged a post, it would load the entire old dash in the background, and if I used CSS to hide the actual reblog pane, I could use the now-visible post creation buttons to make a post. So I did that for several months. I was still using FF75 or Brave for certain Tumblr things, but I've forgotten what.

Then Tumblr changed the login page. I could no longer login to Tumblr at all on FF35, and have never been able to again.

Then Tumblr stopped working in FF75. This may have been when they started rolling the NPF editor? Brave was now the only way for me to access Tumblr.

So I did. I collected posts via my RSS feeds, and every so often I would open up Brave (my TERTIARY browser by this point) and queue them up. A couple more secondary browser sites became unusable and also had to be switched to the tertiary.

Fast forward to November 2022, when I built a PC and installed normal, updated, naturally-updating Firefox on it. I was okay with this because I had built the PC specifically for gaming and would not be using it as my main computer. I still didn't like the changes, but over time I got used to them.

In 2023, Brave started telling me that it would no longer update until I upgraded to at least Windows 10, which I have zero intention of ever doing on this laptop.

In January 2024, I upgraded my laptop to 8 GB of RAM, which is the max it can support.

In February, my bank website quit loading properly on FF75 and quit letting me log in at all on Brave. It did work on my PC Firefox, and I had gotten used to the new Firefox via the PC, so I tried to upgrade FF75 Portable to the newest version. But...

Which was bullsnot, and made everything so much harder. I couldn't just upgrade my secondary now--I had to install an entirely new portable edition of Firefox, version 115 on the Legacy Extended Support Release branch. That meant I would be starting from scratch. No addons, no bookmarks, no little customizations that I had forgotten were customizations, no history, no anything. Everything would have to be ported over manually.

I put it off until March. About a week ago, I spent a few hours setting it up as my secondary, porting over all my bookmarks and scripts and such. Two days later, I decided to try using it as my main browser, since I have double the RAM I used to. I had to download and install a special tool to properly make it the default browser (because using the setting in Firefox doesn't actually work since it's portable). I'm still gradually filling things in as they come up, but so far it seems to be working out. (Apart from the way the window doesn't like to display properly when I switch back to it until I change something, and the way it keeps resetting my theme toolbar preference.) I still have FF35 around to switch back to if I need to.

And I can reblog/make Tumblr posts whenever I want.

I recently "upgraded my main browser" (it's complicated) to the highest version supported on my operating system and I keep forgetting that I can just. Reblog things on Tumblr now. I don't have to save them up for a week and then open a different browser to process them. It's a weird feeling after so many years of doing it the other way.

The 66-year-old actor's estranged wife Nandita Puri was spotted outside his Trishul Apartments residence in Andheri, Mumbai.

Nandita and Om had a troubled marriage, and she even filed a domestic violence complaint against him for allegedly beating her with a stick and hurling abuses at her. Their dispute first came in the spotlight when Nandita penned a book about her husband, Unlikely Hero: The Story Of Om Puri, which revealed all his past relationships and sexual liaisons.

They finally opted for judicial separation, ending their 26-year-long marriage.
