New Year's Resolutions 2024, but funny/silly/enjoyable ones:

Make more spreadsheets (I don't know how it took me 38 years to notice but I LOVE making spreadsheets! I might even learn how to use the interesting functions at some point)

Go more often to eastern european/russian convenience stores to get the tasty frozen treats, kefir, sour cream and more things i haven't discovered yet

Make more pretty drinks!

Broaden the range of music I listen to (you never know what your next favourite genre is gonna be)

Experiment in some way with clothes making/adapting/transforming

Celebrate my mid-year-birthday (I was born in november, when it's cold and grey, I've been saying that I want to celebrate my mid-year-birthday in may for years but I still haven't done it!)

Spend more time inside when it's cold and dark; spend more time outside when it's sunny and windy and beautiful

1. Are you named after anyone?

I was named after a rose bush by my dad. My mom added her middle name just because he wouldn't let her name me.

2. When was the last time you cried?

August 2022. My favorite uncle passed away suddenly. I had to make several difficult decisions on his behalf that I wasn't really prepared for.

3. Do you have kids?

I have a number of 'adopted strays'. Haven't been lucky enough to have any biological demons yet.

4. Do you use sarcasm a lot?

Hmm... sarcasm. What a positively glorious concept. Of course I use it. It's practically in my blood... lol.

5. What’s the first thing you notice about people?

In person; I notice their face... mostly the eyes. You can tell a lot about a person's character by the way they look at you and their surroundings. Then their hands. Hands will tell you if they honestly know what hard work is.

Online; I notice grammar and punctuation. Can they carry on a conversation without hitting caps lock? Are they at least breaking sentences up with periods?

6. What’s your eye color?

Dark chocolate brown. At night, in low light, they almost turn black.

7. Scary movies or happy endings?

Why not both? I want a good horror movie that can scare my socks off. I also what a great movie of almost any genre that can pull off a happy ending. It definitely doesn't have to and probably shouldn't be the same movie.

8. Any special talents?

I'm an artist and apparently a decent writer.

9. Where were you born?

Small town USA

10. What are your hobbies?

Drawing, sculpting, painting, 3D modeling, writing, video games

11. Have you any pets?

One dog - Zeus. He's a boxer-pit (pibble) with the best personality. He's probably the best dog I've ever had.

12. What sports do you play/have played?

Softball, girl's baseball, archery, running, skating, hiking, swimming, volleyball, bad-mitten, ping pong, air hockey, kayaking (I did some of this more as a kid/teen than now)

13. How tall are you?

5,1 - I'm a short-shit

14. Favorite subject in school?

Art with a close second of science.

15. Dream job?

Getting paid to work on my art and/or writing would be awesome. Second choice: working remotely. Honestly, making enough money to live on comfortably would be idea.

A snip from my Sheterius fic I NEVER expected to start writing... Something possessed me and I had to write them jsksjksk

I really don't know what happened, but this just somehow became the crack fic I always wanted to write

It takes a lot of effort not to reach out and touch him — the soft, dark fabric clings to his figure so well. She'd smooth her fingers down his front, down his side, down his thighs and along the curves between them. But now isn't the time. Silently she reaches for the bag he'd set on the ground beside him, warding him off with her free hand when he tries to stop her. "Come in," she says, leading him through to the living room. "Shall I leave this in your room?" There's no objection so she purposefully makes off with it. He initially follows, but stalls barely past the doorway, standing there awkwardly when she returns. Nervous or shy as he may be, his eyes still obediently catch her as she crosses the room once more, just as her own zero in on him. Again the sight of those perfect lines reaching from below his chest to down between his legs takes hold of her.

So rather than grab the first lines from my posted one-shots (of which there are not yet 10), I’m including ten lines from the last ten WIPs I’ve been working on.

Plus I’ve started treating my draft longfic A Brighter Flame as an anthology of short stories instead of obscenely long chapters.  Looking at it that way, that gives me plenty of starting lines to share.

First, my most recent drafts from A Brighter Flame:

1. Nowhere to Run: “Robyn watched Cambria from inside the gang house on Tenth Street, her eyes locked on the girl and her jaw clenched as she listened to Dante rant from the other side of the room.”

2. Tipping Point: “Jane held tight to the doorknob, easing the bedroom door back into its frame before gently releasing the antiquated mechanical latch.”

3. Hold Fast: “Hatfield couldn’t sleep.”

Then a couple short story WIPs:

4. The Ghost of You: “The lingering smell of smoke and dust greeted Garrus as he stepped into the Citadel Presidium.”

5. The Usual Suspect: “Detective Severan suppressed a gag as she surveyed the crime scene, her mandibles pressing together to hide the small retch at the back of her throat.”

And then some more from A Brighter Flame:

6. Fall Into the Deep Blue: “When Shepard closed her eyes, the hangar of the Normandy SR-2 sounded similar enough to the SR-1 to fool her senses.”

7. Something New to Fight For: “Wherever Ashley Williams was, if she had any sense of clairvoyance at all, Shepard was certain she was having a good laugh over finally being proven right.”

8. Love is a Battlefield: “Garrus slammed onto the floor chest-first, half a second from beaten and already bracing himself for the killing blow.”

9. Separate Ways: “The sheer risk the next mission posed reminded Shepard of Buhen, and the memory of Buhen rang with victory.”

10. Waiting for the World to End: “A gentle breeze without sensation toyed with Shepard’s hair while she sat on the park bench.”

New follower here, but I happened across your commentary that Jim might be the key to Ed's character development -- and I agree! Naturally, fellow-sufferer over Izzy that I am, I'm going to have (eventual) opinions about how BOTH would be totally on-brand.

Before I ask for some of your opinions on particular aspects of character -- I've loved some of your tags on other meta posts -- just wanted to get more info about what you prefer to tackle.

And ask what you might generally be ruminating on related to OFMD? :D

Hi - I checked out your blog and your Tragedy of Izzy Hands analysis is great! (Also glad to see I am not the only person who did a whole watchthrough just to examine Con O'Neill's facial expressions, hah.) I'm gonna have to go through and read the rest of your Izzy meta when I have time.

Also yesss re: Jim - it took me a while to get a sense of Jim's place in the overall narrative of the show, but their story really parallels Ed's in a lot of ways, and unlike Izzy or Stede, Jim doesn't have any personal stake in which persona Ed leans into. If Ed needs to figure out who he is/wants to be without Stede as described in e.g. the eggs post, which is a prediction I agree with, I think Jim is really best placed to help him do it without pressuring him to be any certain way. But honestly how Jim's and Izzy's development might intersect is a lot less obvious to me, even though Vico talked about it in that interview, and I'd love to read your thoughts on that!

I am into literally any new thoughts and analysis on pretty much any aspect of this show; it is occupying my full entire brain right now. I've been thinking a lot about the broad themes of self-determinism and especially agency in deciding who you want to be, which is a huge part of Ed's story, as lots of people have written about, but is super important for most of the other characters as well!
