Books from a lil bookstore! Went with @petrichorpaws and our friend who owns Nike, the Leonberger pictured <3
I bought;
The Beast You Are, by Paul Tremblay
> I want more fiction to read, and like. Look at it. Look at that title. I had to.
Soil: The Story of A Black Mother's Garden, by Camille T Dungy
> gardening, connecting with nature, diversity in nature, diversity in people, and learning more about POC are all things I love adding to my library and skill set. I'm slowly working on adding more non-animal focused books to my collection, currently primarily stuff on race and trans people
Last Stand: George Bird Grinnell, The Battle to Save the Buffalo, and the Birth of the New West, by Michael Punke
> conservation and American history book! While bison specifically aren't my interest, their history is incredibly worth studying and something I want to learn more about, and conservation books in general I always find something worthwhile and important in, even in animals and plants I have no particular interest in. History is another topic I'm slowly adding to my library, primarily focused on the Americas and Russia
Indigenous Continent, by Pekka Hämäläinen
> INCREDIBLY relatedly, looking at American history through a very different lens, focusing on indigenous perspective instead. Incredibly excited to read this one in particular
Fen, Bog, and Swamp: A Short History of Peatland Destruction and Its Role in the Climate Crisis, by Annie Proulx
> more conservation and history! I know very little about peatland, it's not something I've got much experience with being from central California, so eager to learn more
The Name of the Wind, by Patrick Rothfuss
> petrichorpaws suggested this one and the blurb on the back immediately had my attention! I don't read much fiction, much less non-animal related fiction, but I want to make an effort to branch out to it, and a friend's suggestion is one of my favorite places to start <3
Nike's owner also insisted on buying us some candles, I got three of them (The Writer, Enemies to Lovers, and Book Boyfriend), and surprised me with getting a book me and petrichorpaws were both ogling but didn't buy;
Stories from Bird Banding; Comics and photographs from the field, by Aya Rothwell

Angry rambling about this under read more
Shoutout to my previous therapist who said I had many, if not most, symptoms of PTSD but wouldn't diagnose or medically recognize me (and yes she had the ability to). Also was the first to bring up DID with me, but since I was in denial about it, proceeded to dance around the subject of diagnosis/medical recognition for an entire year even when I got OUT of denial and brought it up myself
Additional shoutout to the same therapist for treating my DID/OSDD symptoms and speaking as if we were made up of parts, encouraged communication and integration, but would get deflective when I asked what disorder it could possibly be.
Now my new therapist is hearing my symptoms and is skeptical because I was in therapy for TWO YEARS with no diagnosis or medical recognition of anything relevant to those symptoms. Sees my chart and it only says GAD, MDD (which prev T admitted was a misdiagnosis upon intake but never got rid of it), and unspecified schizophrenia spectrum disorder. No PTSD despite having almost all the symptoms, not even UDD despite telling me I had a dissociative disorder of some kind. Like thanks for making me look like a liar! Now I've been spending over a month of sessions with the new T explaining myself and getting confused reactions like "so anxiety isn't your main problem?"
Not diagnosed, not medically recognized, but a secret third thing
#my prev T helped a lot with some things but my god.#she hated talking diagnoses#and if she had ever just explained that she didnt WANT to diagnose i wouldve accepted medical recognition#but she danced around the subject#good grief#fen speaks#vent

Cosmere Characters React to the Cosmere Femslash Prompt Generator
Happy femslash February! @gal-palanaeum has created a Cosmere Femslash Prompt Generator (here) which creates fun ships & scenarios to inspire you! Please check it out!
Me being me, I've created a bunch of randomly generated prompts to consider how Cosmere characters might react to them.
1. The Prompt: "Venli couldn't stand Palona at first, but then..."
Venli: [Looks expectantly at Palona] Venli: Well? What about you is going to win me over? Palona: Hmmm...well, there was a time my partner and I had a literal picnic during the onset of the world's first Everstorm--on the Shattered Plains. You know, the very place where the two storms were crashing into each other. Venli: ... Venli: Dammit, that IS really hot...
2. The Prompt: "If Shallan keeps looking so maladroit I'm going to end up scrying her," Tindwyl whispered to herself."
Shallan: [scoffs] "Maladroit"? I've never been maladroit in my life! Tindwyl: [calmly holds up a screenshot of Shallan sprawled out on the floor with her underwear showing] Shallan: T-That was on purpose! Tindwyl: Mmm-hmmm.
3. The Prompt: "Can't you be normal about Hesina for five minutes?" Jasnah growled at Palona.
Hesina: Oooh, so in this story, the Alethi Queen and Urithiru's economic powerhouse are fighting over me?? Hesina: What happens next?? Jasnah [who had been about to criticize the implication that she would tell any woman to be "normal"]: Well... Palona [who had been about to criticize the implication that she'd let any situation devolve to the point of growling]: Uh... Jasnah: Perhaps...Palona starts to expound on your virtues? Palona: Y-Yes, the words, "How COULD I be normal about such a woman" are surely coming next. Hesina: [eyes sparking]
4. The Prompt: "Watching Akane and Yumi kiss made the Midnight Mother feel so mean!"
Akane: The Midnight Mother...is homophobic? Yumi: W-We should make out harder to show her the error of her ways!
5. The Prompt: "Cord and Rysn were constantly trying to pinch each other, until something changedâŚ"
Rysn: [Looks at Cord] Cord: [Looks at Rysn] Rysn: [Imagining sloppy make-outs] Cord: [Imagining her defending Rysn from a sudden pirate attack after which she leaps to safety with Rysn in her arms] Rysn: C-Can you imagine... Cord: H-Ha, yeah...
6. The Prompt: "Sylphrena nodded, looking over her plans. 'The only way to stay on the Wind's Pleasure is to break up Cord and Rysn,' she announced."
Cord: Uh, wow. Rysn: Dishonor Spren, more like. Syl: I-I'm sure it's one of those stories where you'd end up getting back together!!!
7. The Prompt: Eshonai and Vivenna walked hand in hand in the Nightwatcher's Valley, with their trusty havah nearby.
Vivenna: Now, I'm relatively new to this world, but isn't a "havah," like, the main piece of a woman's clothing? Eshonai: Among Vorin humans, yeah. Vivenna: So are we, like, strolling naked? Eshonai: On our way to see a dragon. Vivenna: Kinky.
8. The Prompt: "'Sure, I'm atop Gallant,' Radiant smiled, 'but I would leave it all behind for you.' // 'Even your spren?' Design asked, blushing."
Pattern: Mmmm, ditching your chaperone, Radiant?? Pattern: I know what that means!
9. The Prompt: "She was running out of time. If Queen Fen didn't act fast, she might lose her chance to ask Jaxlim on a date."
Jaxlim: Ah yes, this is told of in our ancient songs... Jaxlim: It is called "Old Woman Yuri." Fen: Is that...really in the ancient Listener songs? Jaxlim: [smiles cryptically]
10. The Prompt: "'I wish I could milk Azure and Jasnah,' Sylphrena said."
Azure: ... Jasnah: ... Syl: ... Azure: ... Jasnah: ... Syl: Although...you know, now that I'm thinking about it... Jasnah & Azure: NO

Before You Go - Fenrys Moonbeam
A/N: Iâm so freaking proud of this fic I hope you love it! Also Iâve tried my hand at a lil smut so please feel free to give constructive criticism!
T/W: Maeve, Smut, Vision of Maeve & Fenrys, Angst, Death - I think thatâs it! Let me know if Iâve missed any!
W/C: 5K
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
100 Years Ago:
âYou did what?!â You seethed at the White Wolf who was looking anywhere but at you. âI swore a blood oathâŚto Maeve.â The words hit you like a physical blow and tears lined your eyes. âWhyâŚwhy would you do that?â You asked, swallowing the lump in your throat. He looked at you then, his face shuttering as he took in your unshed tears. âFor Connall, the things she makes him do, Y/N, I canât, I canât allow it.â You sighed, heart breaking as you looked at the Male in front of you, your mate. Not that he knew, if he did he hadnât told you, just like how you hadnât told him. âHeâll resent you for taking his place, Fen, he came to visit, while you were gone with your elite force, he seemed happy.â
Youâd grown up with the twins, your parents serving under theirs but there was always something about Fenrys, something that pulled you in. They were five years older than you and youâd put it down to a school girl crush. Connall hated it. He didnât speak to you for 2 years after he confessed his feelings for you on your 18th birthday. You had just looked helplessly at his twin and he had known then, had understood there was something unspoken between you and his brother. It infuriated him. Connall had always felt lesser than his twin, who was favoured by their father and now by you, it seemed. âI canât let her have him like that, Connall deserves a true and pure love, not this.â You scoffed, âWhat, so itâs better for you to be her whore instead?â You spat, his eyes hardening at your words, âTell me, will you be allowed to leave her chambers? To be the warrior you always wanted to be or will you be leashed to her bed like the dog that you are?â
Anger rolled off of him in waves as he took a step back from you, âThatâs enough.â He said quietly but you were so past trying to understand his reasoning. âMaybe he loves her, Fen? Did you think of that?â He scoffed this time, âEven if he does, she doesnât and wonât ever love him back, sheâs incapable of it.â You put your hands on your hips, âSo what now? Youâve come to say goodbye? Tell me Iâll never see you again?â His face softened as your voice cracked. âYouâll see me again, but yes, I came to say goodbye.â Anger was still coursing through your veins as you said, âYou better go then, your shackles on her bed are waiting. Goodbye, Fenrys.â You turned and walked away, you didnât look back.
85 Years Ago:
The first ten years without the twins, without Fenrys, had been hard. Youâd lost your parents to one of Maeveâs many wars, the twins' parents only just making it back themselves. They had taken you in, despite the fact you were an adult and your own parents had left you more than enough. It was like their mother knew this would be the final blow for you and she refused to let you fall into your despair. Sheâd moved you into Fenrysâ room, âSo youâre here when he comes back,â she had said, âA mate's presence heals most things, even if they're not physically here.â You didnât know how she knew nor did you ask at the time as you crawled into his bed and slept for days.
Fenrys sent everything he was feeling down the mating bond unknowingly. You could stop him from feeling your feelings which youâd been actively doing since it snapped for you but you couldnât block his. The hatred, the anger, the sadness, the submission, the pleasure. It made you physically sick. Sometimes, when his emotions were particularly high, you saw it all as well, through his eyes. Youâd never forget that first time.
Maeve on top of him, her naked form grinding in his lap. âWhatâs the matter little pup?â She taunted from above him, âPerformance nerves?â He was panicking, you could feel the panic coursing through him, the dread that if he didnât perform sheâd bring Connall in here instead. She scraped her nails down his chest, âYou really are pretty for a dog, Fenrys.â She crooned, rolling her hips again, âI can help you enjoy it and perhaps eventually youâll learn to enjoy it on your own.â She leant forward and kissed up his neck, her canines scraping as she went, disgust shot through him as one hand wrapped around his throat and the other slid towards his cock. âEnjoy it.â She whispered seductively in his ear, âYou want me, Fenrys, you want this.â She sucked on his earlobe and the disgust started to dissipate, replaced by lust. âYou want to fuck me, to satisfy me.â She continued as his cock stiffened in her hand. She dragged herself up his body, until she had a leg on either side of his head. âGo ahead pup,â she crooned, âeat.â
You witnessed the whole thing. She had ridden him until she was satisfied and when he was spent she sent him away like he was nothing. The last thing you saw when Fenrys opened her chamber door was Connall on the other side, betrayal like nothing youâd ever seen written across his face. Youâd thrown up until your body had given out and you moved out of his room and his parents house the next day.
This went on for ten years until youâd had enough, you couldnât take it anymore, feeling what he was feeling, witnessing it. You had amassed the funds your parents had left you and ventured to Doranelle, for an audience with the Queen. You smoothed down the skirts of your dress as you waited to be called into her throne room. Fenrys was here and nearby, you could feel the bond coming to life and singing that its counterpart was close. A guard approached and nodded for you to follow him, so you took a deep breath and did just that. Itâs for the twins, you told yourself over and over again as you rounded the corner and took in Maeve sitting upon her stone throne, two wolves sat either side, one white, one black, both of their ears shot up and their eyes widened as they took you in. A white tailed hawk sat above her right shoulder, a massive Osprey sat above her left. In one of the alcoves close to the throne stood the biggest male you had ever seen and another male with golden hair and tattoos.
âYou asked for an audience?â Maeve asked, her voice sounded bored and uninterested. You bowed as low as you could before speaking, âYes your majesty, thank you for granting my wish.â You said, your voice sounding stronger than you felt, she waved a hand for you to continue. âI have come to ask if you will allow me to buy the wolves out of their servitude? They are needed at home but of course majesty I understand they are of great importance to you so I offer all that I have, including myself, in their stead.â Maeve tilted her head in consideration. Connall was staring at his queen, but Fenrys, Fenrys was staring at you, a sadness in his eyes, a desperation telling you to take back your offer and run.
Maeve tipped her head back and laughed, she laughed like you had told the best joke she had ever heard and as quickly as she laughed, it ended. The Fae Queen leveled you with a look, âNo.â You stepped forward, Connall bared his teeth and let out a warning growl that shocked you to your very core. âBut, I-â the Queen cut you off, âI said no, like you pointed out, girl, they are of great importance to me and this one,â she said, placing a hand on Fenrysâ head, âHe pleases me ever so well, so no, girl, Iâll keep them both, leave.â Your mouth dropped open and Maeve sighed, âLorcan, see our guest out.â The giant of a male stepped towards you and Fenrys whined his protest, âHush, pup, get upstairs.â Maeve commanded and you were escorted out with a feeling in the pit of your stomach that youâd made everything worse for him.
A knock woke you from a fitful sleep. You hadnât even made it to your bed, you had passed out drunk on the sofa and you winced as the wine bottle rolled off of you and smashed on the floor. Youâd deal with that in the morning you decided as you stumbled to the door and flung it open. A fae male with long silver hair and face tattoos stood on the other side, along with the golden haired male from earlier. âSo sheâs sent you to kill me then?â You asked as you turned and walked into the kitchen, leaving the door open for them to follow. âDrink?â You asked, pouring yourself a whisky and sliding the bottle and two glasses over to the other side of the table where they now stood. âI wonât fight you for my life,â you told them, âThereâs nothing left of it anyway.â You said gesturing around the house.
The silver haired one snorted as he took in your home, âWow, you really arenât doing well without him are you?â The golden haired one hissed as he elbowed his friend, âRowan!â He scolded. âIâm sorry, Y/N, Iâm Gavriel and this is Rowan, we arenât here to kill you, weâre here to help, sort of.â You raised an eyebrow, âHelp? With what?â You questioned, âYou feel him donât you?â Rowan asked, âWe can teach you to block him out, so you donât feel him if youâre too much of a coward to tell him heâs your mate.â You crossed your arms over your chest, âYouâre an asshole.â You told Rowan, Gavriel nodded his agreement, âAn asshole I might be, but Iâm trying to help you, do you know what she wouldâve done if she realised what you were to him, to both of them?â You shrugged, âIt isnât fair that they are chained to her like that, itâs not fair to any of you, loyalty should be earned, not taken.â Gavriel sighed, âLet us help you.â
So you learned from them, well, from Rowan mostly, over an exhausting couple of days. Gavriel kept himself busy fixing whatever needed fixing in the house and tidying up so you had somewhere presentable to live. âOh and one more thing,â Rowan said as they turned to leave that evening. He turned, producing a letter out of his satchel and you instantly recognised the scrawl on the envelope. âKeep those shields up, Y/N.â He said before walking out the door. Gavriel smiled kindly at you, âFor what itâs worth, I think he regrets it, leaving you, everyday.â You sighed, âI was so mean the last time I spoke to him, I was angry and I didnât mean any of it.â You said quietly, âI think he knows that too,â Gavriel said, âbut Iâll make sure to tell him.â
You smiled at him softly, âWhy did you both come to help me?â You questioned, Gavriel glanced outside and then back to you, âRowanâs pregnant mate was murdered & I walked away from my mate and child because of the fear of Maeve, we donât want the same for Fenrys, weâre quite keen on the pups and somethings Y/N, somethings are worth fighting for.â With that, he took your hand, kissed your knuckles and left.
You slid down the front door, pulled your knees to your chest and ripped open the letter Rowan had given you. There was such anger in Connallâs words, at you, at his brother. But there was also sorrow and a plea for you to never step foot in Doranelle again.
You spent the following weeks wondering if youâd be betrayed, but no one ever came for you.
50 Years Ago:
Gasping quietly you dropped the dishes you were washing in the sink with a splash, the bubbles splattering up your apron. You threw open the door to Rowan and the tall male you hadnât met yet. âWhat happened?!â You snapped as you took in Fenrys hanging between them. âMove!â The tall male hissed as they shoved past you, âClear the table!â Rowan commanded, panic seized you as you swept the table with your arm. âWhat happened?!â You snapped again and Fenrys groaned as they placed him more gently than youâd expected on the table. âHeâs been testing the leash, stupid boy.â Your eyes snapped to the tall male, âSorry, who the hell are you?â He didnât even look at you as he grunted, âLorcan.â You looked back down at Fenrys, âShe did this to him?â Rowan looked at Lorcan who shook his head but Rowan answered you anyway, âConnall did.â Anger flooded through you, âConnall?!â Fenrys let out a wet, labored cough, âNo,â he croaked. âShe commanded it,â Lorcan drawled, âBut he didnât seem to hesitate or fight it.â
You watched quietly as the two warriors worked on Fenrys. Your entire body was tense. Fenrys had passed out 30 minutes ago, a blessing you supposed, that he couldnât feel what they were doing as they were putting him back together. A shadow outside the window caught your eye and you stalked out the door. âYouâve got some nerve.â You spat at the Black Wolf who was sitting at the tree line of your property. âHow dare you turn up here?!â With a flash the Black Wolf was a Male prowling towards you. âHeâs my brother, I need to know if heâs okay.â You scoffed, âYou did this to him!â You exclaimed, stepping up to him. âI didnât have a choice!â You rolled your eyes, âThey said you didnât even hesitate or try to fight the order!â You watched Connallâs eyes shoot over your shoulder and then back to you. You felt Rowan at your back. âAre you here for you or for her?â He asked, his voice tight. âFor him.â Connall snapped. Rowan nodded and beckoned him to follow. You huffed and followed the two males into your home, the tang of blood in the air.
Theyâd moved him to your bed when theyâd patched him up. You had sat next to the bed, back rigid. Your eyes watching the steady rise and fall of his chest. Around 3am his eyes cracked open, finding you instantly in the darkness, âAm I dead? Is this heaven?â He rasped. You rolled your eyes, âNo, you arenât dead, they brought you here.â He nodded weakly. âWhere are they?â He croaked, you handed him a glass of water, âLorcan and Connall went back, Rowanâs flapping about outside.â You told him and he huffed a laugh then winced. âStop it.â You scolded him.
Youâd brought him some food and stuck your head out the door to let Rowan know he was awake before returning to Fenrys. âHow are you feeling?â You asked, âWhy are you doing this? Helping?â He asked at the same time. âBecause itâs you and Iâm an idiot.â You muttered quietly. âIt was stupid of you to come to Doranelle.â He said, âIâm not sorry.â You snapped. âYour brother nearly killed you today, he didnât think twice about it, he just obeyed.â Your voice cracked and tears welled up in your eyes. Fenrys sighed, âItâs the blood oath, he didnât have a choice.â You gave him a scathing look, âGet some rest.â You said, voice sharp and you turned to leave. âHey?â You turned to face him, he held his hand out towards you, âCome here?â He asked, patting the space next to him. The bond was screaming at you to do so, to join him, to not leave him injured and alone in your room so you caved and crawled in next to him. âYou know I love you right?â He asked into the darkness of the room. âYeah, I know.â You answer, heart cracking because you knew he didnât mean it how your entire soul craved him to mean it.
Now:
âWhat are you doing here?!â You span at the sound of his voice. âFighting? We got the call.â You gestured at the battlefield that surrounded you. âYou canât be here!â He snarled, âWell I am! You snarled back. âPup! Weâve got to go, you can fight with your girlfriend later!â Rowan shouted as he landed next to you, âHi, Y/N.â You smiled at him, âAedion is injured, get up to the battlements and see where you can help.â Rowan told you, you nodded at him and took off, Fenrys shouting after you.
You clung onto Aedion, tears in your eyes as Gavriel stepped through the gate. Youâd grown to love Gavriel, heâd visited you every time he traveled past your home over the years, always stopping in for a cup of tea, you had your suspicions that he was reporting back to Fenrys but heâd become your friend either way. âLet him go, Aedion.â He fought against you, âHeâs doing this for you, the only thing he feels he can do for you.â So the two of you watched as the Lion of Doranelle stood his ground as the gate shut him out.
It was over. It was won. Youâd watched from the battlements as Fenrys delivered the killing blow to the tyrant Queen. Had watched them morn Gavriel from the outside while you quietly mourned the Wolf that was no longer with you. Aelin had approached you in the garden one evening, as you sat amongst the flowers, watching the sun disappear, talking to Connall as if he could hear you. âYouâre staying.â A fact, a demand from your Queen, not a question. You looked up at her and she smiled, âRowanâs not so good with the secrets.â You laughed as he huffed behind his wife. âHeâll need you.â You gave her a kind smile, âI doubt that, but if itâs what you wish for, your majesty, I will stay.â She gave you a look that said she knew she was right and turned to leave, âActually, with your permission, thereâs something Iâd like to do.â Tears welled in Aelinâs eyes as you told her what you wanted, Rowan approached and smiled and put a hand on your shoulder, âI think thatâs a wonderful idea.â He said, Aelin nodded her agreement.
Fenrys found you a week later. âWhat are you doing out here?â He asked, approaching you in the Royal Graveyard of Terrasen. You were knelt in the dirt, hands covered in it. Flowers surround you, Zinnias for remembrance and goodness, Yellow Carnations for friendship and gratitude, Violets for faithfulness and devotion, Anemones for protection and sacrifice and Daffodils for rebirth and hope. âHe mentioned you had become friends over the yearsâŚâ he trailed off, realising that it wasnât Gavrielâs grave you were kneeling in front of. You looked at him over your shoulder, and then moved aside to reveal a gravestone, that simply read:
Connall Moonbeam
Brother
Friend
Beloved
Black Wolf of Doranelle
A raw, broken sound left Fenrys as he crashed to his knees at the sight of his brother's grave and you were there, next to him, holding him. âI thought it would be nice if we had somewhere we could talk to him.â You told him quietly as he sobbed into his hands. âHe visits me in my dreams, the first time was the night he died. He came to me and told me what had happened. That you needed me. I set off the next day to find Aelin, to help however I could.â Fenrys fell into you, sobbing into your neck. âHe kept me safe, when I slept rough, heâd tell me to wake up, to move.â You kept talking as Fenrys calmed slowly, âHe had things left to say to me, we both cried as he told me heâd loved me once but he knew, had always known Iâd belonged to his brother, that I had to find you, that youâd need me, that after everything, heâd get me to you safely, the last thing he could do for you.â You ran a calming hand down his back, âHe had a message for you, he said he loves you, more than anything, he forgives you for everything and heâs sorry for his part, he said that it was meant for you, the dagger, but it was too far and he couldnât allow it.â Tears were running down your face by the time you finished speaking. âIf I could change it, if I could take his place so he could be here with you, I would, in a heartbeat, Fen.â
Fenrys remained quiet for a long time after you had told him everything. He clutched your hand like it was his tether to the earth. Finally he looked up at you, his onyx eyes meeting yours and you saw the exact moment he felt it too, the bond. You watched it wash over him, watched him figure out what it was he was feeling. âYouâŚyouâreâŚâ you nodded at him, âYes, I am.â He blinked, âHow long have you known?â He croaked and you let out a humorless laugh, âA long time, Fen.â âHow long?â He repeated, âSince before you swore the blood oath.â You admitted, âYouâve known for over 100 years that weâre mates and you never said anything?!â You opened your mouth to reply just as Rowan and Aelin approached, âWeâve all known Boyo, it was fairly obvious.â Aelin elbowed her husband. âYouâve done a wonderful job on Connallâs grave, Y/N.â She said, âIâm sorry I never got to know him.â She said to Fenrys, wrapping him in her arms. âHeâd have loved you.â Fenrys mumbled and you and Rowan laughed your agreement.
Over the following weeks Fenrys started coming around more and more. Getting to know you again heâd said. Youâd cried as Aedion swore his oath, took his birthright and Fenrys had laughed at you, wiped your tears and held your hand for the rest of the ceremony. âDance with me?â He asked as the Coronation Ball went on and on. You smiled up at him and took his had, allowing him to lead you to the dance floor and into the first dance. Your body fit against his in the best of ways and from what you felt, he knew it too. It was on your third dance that he seemed to throw caution to the wind and his hand left your waist to cup your face as he brought his lips down to yours. It was like the world had gone silent. He pulled you impossibly closer to him as his kisses descended down your neck. âLetâs get out of here.â He spoke against your neck, âPlease?â You begged him. He smirked at you as he pulled you towards the doors.
The two of you only made it a few corridors at a time before you were swept up in kisses and touches again. By the time you were halfway to his room, you realised, he was carrying you, your legs wrapped around his waist, dress up around your hips, his hands on your ass, groaning at the feel of it, of the feel of your teeth against his neck. âFuck it.â He growled three corridors away from his room as he pinned you against the wall with his hips and pulling the top of your dress down. He groaned as he took in the sight before him and ground his hips into yours causing you to moan. He lowered his head, kisses starting at your neck, trailing down to your chest where he worshiped each breast and nipple, the sensations causing you to writhe against him.
âCan you be quiet for me?â He asked, pulling away from your chest. You nodded eagerly as he sank to his knees, anticipation tightening in your stomach as he threw your legs over his shoulders, his head disappearing under the skirts of your dress. Kisses began traveling up your legs, âNo underwear?â He mumbled more to himself than to you as his mouth neared to where you wanted it the most. His tongue licked a broad stripe and you jerked at the sensation, letting out a loud moan. âWhat did I say about being quiet?â He teased as he head appeared from under your skirts before going right back to where it was before. Your fingers scrambled for something to grab onto and settled for the of your dress that was covering his head as he sucked on your clit, waves of pleasure zinging up and down your spine.
âPlease, please, pleaseâ you were begging as that familiar coil started to tighten in your stomach. âPlease what?â He asked against your clit, the words vibrating beautifully. âTell me what you want love?â He asked, nipping at your thigh. âMake me cum, Fen, please Iâm so close.â You whimpered as he started his minstrations again. Two calloused fingers pushed into you and you threw your head back into the wall, his lips still sucking at you. âPlea-â your begging was cut off as his fingers curled and hit that perfect spot and the coil in your stomach snapped and you and the world fell apart as your orgasam ripped through you. He kept going, drawing it out as long as he could.
His smirk was feline when he emerged from your dress and set your shaking legs back on the ground. You threw yourself at him so hard he stumbled back into the opposite wall as he caught you. You began attacking his neck with kisses, teeth scraping along his throat as you pulled his shirt out of his trousers and tried to undo the buttons. âTake me to bed. Now.â You breathed against his ear and he froze. Completely froze. His arms dropped away from you and his whole body was ridgid. You pulled away from him, realising quickly what had happened and your heart threatened to disintegrate at that haunted look in his eyes.
âFenrys?â It was like he couldnât hear you. Whatever memory of Maeve he was reliving had trapped him and you werenât sure how to get to him. You had just began to panic when Chaol and Yerene walked down the hallway, âGet Aelin, now!â You snapped at Chaol as Yerene stepped towards him. âDonât!â She stopped dead and looked at you. âI donât know what heâs reliving and how heâll be when he comes out of it, youâre with child.â You said more gently and she nodded in understanding, âGo with Chaol, bring Rowan too!â She nodded as she ran to catch up with her husband. âFen, please, come back to me.â
Footsteps rushed down the hallway and then Aelin was there, Rowan next to her. Lorcan behind him. Chaol and Yerene behind him. You knew you didnât fit this picture, this group. So you watched, back against the wall Fenrys had just had you against as the Queen of Terrasen pulled your mate back after you had failed to do so. His eyes cleared and darted around the hallway, he smiled down at Aelin and Rowan clapped him on the shoulder. Lorcan, Chaol and Yerene departed back to the ball as the Queen and King spoke with their Emissary, their friend & you turned and fled. You had done that to him, you were no better than Maeve.
âI donât know how to do this.â You sobbed, âI donât know how to be what he needs.â The gravestone didnât answer. âI wish you were here, Con.â You told him, âItâs not right without you and I keep messing everything up.â You let out some more sobs as Fenrysâ haunted face flashed through your memories again. Twigs breaking behind Connallâs grave had your head shooting up & there he was, your White Wolf. âIâm sorry, Fen, so unbelievably sorry.â You told him as he prowled over to you.
He approached, studying you and your tears, then licked a great stripe right up the side of your face, which caused you to snort in disgust and then laugh. Fenrys huffed out a sound that you assumed was as close to a laugh as he could do as a wolf and then he curled himself around your back, and a contented rumble left his chest as you leant back on him. âIâm sorry I put you back there, Iâll be more careful with my words next time.â You said quietly. He huffed again, nuzzling his face into your side, a feeling of warmth, thanks and understanding filled your chest and you knew it was him. âCan we stay out here with Connall tonight?â You asked, he nodded and put his head down on a massive paw, leaving the other for you as you curled up into his fur. âI love you, Fen.â You mumbled sleepily, âI have for most of my life.â You felt the moment he shifted, arms wrapping around you and pulling you into his chest, âI love you too.â He said, kissing the top of your head.
Connall Moonbeam smiled down at the sight of his twin brother and his best friend, curled up together by a grave that he was not in. It didnât matter, they had honored him with it anyway. They continued to honor and remember him for the rest of their lives, especially on the day their son was born and they gave him the name Connall Gavriel Moonbeam. Gavriel clapped a hand on his shoulder as he walked away from him, into the arms of the mate heâd been missing for so long. Connall smiled down at his brother and his family one last time and followed Gavriel and his mate into the light, there would be no more dream visits, he had nothing more to offer his friend, besides, heâd see them both again some day.

*throws a mooncake into your inbox* part 2 of the erlang x reader fic plsssss. Let our boy pine and long from the distance. Yuan Fen just KNOWS he caught feeling and is giving him the stink eyes. Maybe reader is unaware? up to you. LOVE YOUR WRITING AND HAVE A WONDERFUL DAYYY
((mooncake?....mooncake...this gave me setting...thank you!))
The mid-autumn festival, or the festival of the moon. You heard it back in your world, but you never thought that one day you would actually participate. After all, you showed some curiosity when you heard from the other monkeys that in the nearest city the humans were preparing everything for the festival, and it was natural for you to ask to be able to attend it.
What you and your companions didn't know was that you weren't the only not-so-human beings that were ready to take a free night for the Moon festival.
"And WHAT are you two doing here?!"
Yuån Fèn almost snarled at the two deities that looked so normal under their own spell and some normal robes. In front of you, Erlang Shen, THAT Erlang, and the third Lotus prince, Nezha, were just in that moment entering the city walls.
Even if under a glamour spell that made him look like a human, Yuån Fèn still held that small trait that didn't allora his tail to disappear, and it was currently moving like a snake around his torso.
"We have all the rights in the world to attend this celebration!" Said the younger one, snarling like your friend and showing some clean in his eyes.
"Of every city, this one?!"
"Yes! Something to say about it?!"
And while the two were arguing, you couldn't look straight in the eyes of the older deity. You remembered quite well what happened to that mountain in that illusion, and... well, it made you feel quite awkward since that was the last time you saw him. You played with the hem of your sleeve, looking from time to time at the man, maybe searching for a good way to green him.
"You look stunning, y/n."
Instead, Erlang couldn't take his eyes off you. Your hangu was of a sweet shade of blues and lilac; flowers aforned your hair and the silks, making you the most beautiful thing that his eyes ever laid on. But you could have been beautiful in everything to him.
Chang'e needed to be careful, because now she had a rival that night.
"oh!" You scratched your head from embarrassment, a little more nervous than before. "The dress?... it's just an old thing that a friend had borrowed me."
"The third sister?" He said it with a genuine but funny tone.
"Yeah! She said that I need to start tò Look like a lady from now on!"
"She has good taste."
He kept his tongue by making remarks about her being a Yaoguai. After all, you befriended many of them. On your behalf, you laughed a little, feeling the nervousness finally calm down. Then, you remembered that Yuån Fèn and that Sassu child were nearing a handfight, and you had an idea.
"Since we're all together, why don't we go as a group? Tò know each other better!" The looks of disbelief on their faces were priceless. "I mean, we should start to act as allies now that the time has changed. And it would be fun!"
Yuån Fèn wanted to say something. I saw your hopeful face. You really, really wanted to attend the festival without troubles, and if going with Erlang and Nezha was an option for that, then it was worth it!
"All right, if they're not against it."Â Which he hopes they were.
Well, they weren't; they both agreed on the spot, and so here you all were, walking in the street, full of people, ready to start the celebrations with two deities, really important ones too, and the One that had hereditated all of Sun Wukong powersâa normal group.
What really caught your attention was the decoration around yourself: everywhere someone had hanged a lantern, on their house, on the streets, between the house and palaces. Children were running around, holding small lanterns made of carved melons, where the adults had cut shapes in the zest, then putted a candle inside.Â
Music could be Heard from the taverns, in the streets, around some temples, and everyone seems busy to have a good time. Your eyes couldn't concentrate on one spot, so immediately they were caught by something else, and you were so distracted that even Yuån Fèn needed to pull you a little. And of it wasn't him; a certain child was now fully invested in the area sourranding him.
"There there! I bet they sell flying lanterns! BiĂĄn huĂĄ, led me some money so we can take a few for later!"
"Why should I? Firstly, my name is Y/n, and secondly, you have to ask for them!"
"Hey! Have you forgotten who I am? I can turn you to-"
"To nothing. Because if a certain emperor find out you both sneak here, you're in big trouble!"
It was funny seeing Nezha act like a brat with someone that didn't care about his status, and of course it needed to be you.
While he kept complaining or tugging at your sleeves to get your attention on something, a small crowd got your attention. The music and the dances were blasting; a small group of musicians was playing an old song about Houyi and Chang'e, girls were launching handkerchiefs around, and boys were trying to catch them as fast as they could.
"Hey! Over there! What are they doing? What kind of dance is that?"
"That? It's a matchmaking dance." Said nonchalantly Yuån Fèn. "Of the boy can give back the handkerchief to the girl who has tossed, they may get married in the future."
"Oooh, it's cute!" You got closer to the crowd and, without even noticing, a few old ladies, maybe caught in a joyful spirit, had already caught you and dragged you inside.
"Little help here?!" You tried to call for your friend, but he was stopped by the young one.
"Just throw the thingy! Who's going to pick it up anyway?!" He laughed about it, while you just stuck your tongue out at him.
Once you did what they told you, you were free and without your handkerchief.
"Wow, those ladies are crazy about it!"
"They just like seeing young ladies march with young men, even strange things like you!"
"Careful, or I'll ruin your makeup, boy..." The both of you were now making faces at each other, to the dismay of Erlang and the joy of Yuån Fèn.
"so! What now?"
"We should go and pay and offer to the moon goddess; it's her festival after all."
"Allright! Let's move!"
While you, Yuån Fèn, and Nezha started moving, you hadn't noticed a Swift of Wind between the crowd. When you turned around, Erlang was adjusting his robe and hair.
"Aren't you coming?"
"Ah yes. Sorry, I was just...thinking."
He deliberately avoided the monkey glare; the only one who knew that had noticed maybe.
///
After you all had offered the incense, prayed for some good fortune, and paid respect to the goddess, you all decided that it was the right moment to stop and enjoy some dinner.
"Why don't we stop here? It seems nice!"
"I wouldn't mind some crabs."
"I'm starving!"
If it wasn't just for the small details that the place was crowded like nowhere, it would have taken hours to eat something! And you still wanted to participate in other events! Especially when the lanterna would have been left free in the sky to fly! You bought a few without Nezha knowingâa small surprise for him. Your mouth started tò watering while you saw all of those plates full of food and delicacy moving between table to table, and you were really beginning to think that losing at least the lion dance could not be such a terrible idea.
Until you noticed the monkey and the boy eyes fixed on the door that seemed to lead to the kitchen. There, your thoughts start tò running.
"You really shouldn't do that!"
"They won't notice!" Said Nezha, ready already to sneak in.
"We'll leave a few dollars, so it won't be a real robbery. What do you think?" Yuån Fèn winked at you. Just before taking the form of One of the waiters was alongside Nezha, making his way towards the kitchen. You blushed a little, still a little uncostimed by his new-found cockiness that accompanying tò Bajie was provoked by his mind now clear about his love towards you.
"Yuån fèn or Sun Wukong, they won't change. Troublemakers Deep in Their Heart." Erlang sighed, observing the scene.
"I like him this way... He may be a troublemaker, but he got a big heart."
The deity couldn't shake that pounty feeling in his heart when he saw with what gaze you were looking at the monkey. Deep, really Deep, he wished that you could have spared those dreamy eyes for himself. Such a selfish desire, but he was selfish inside...
"I never got the chance to thank you properly for what you've done for me back there." You started again to play with your sleeve, looking at your feet with some shyness that, in his eyes, made you more precious than ever.
"You don't have to. It was my duty to do so."
"I know, but...thank you...for everything."
And there it was againâthat damn smile. That smiled so full of kindness and life that virtually you could possess, one smile that could break everyone's heart, especially Erlang's. He looked at you fondly and started to search for something in his robe.
"Y/n, please, I would."
The screaming of the owner echoed in the crowd. Laughs and screams started, and two troublemakers were running out from the restaurant, holding some food and wine.
"THEY'RE NOT THAT GENEROUS!"
///
You were able to get away from the owner fast enough, and, with your spoiler, you were able to find a nice spot. Next to the river, the boat, all of them decorated with more lanterns, seemed like a celestial vessel with reflections on the water. The light played on the surface, the colors shone like the aurora, and the moon, now high in the sky, set herself to be admired by mortals, Yaoguais, and celestials on that peaceful night.
Everything was just nice, with some food, wine, and good friends.Â
After a while, you and Nezha standard up and get closer to the river bank to spot more interesting lanterns, leaving Yuån Fèn and Erlang alone and together.
The night was peaceful, but between the two of them, the tension seemed palpable, and the brother of them wanted to open their mouth to speak up. Erlang proved no animosity towards the monkey; he had made sure of that, but it wasn't like he liked him anyway. But he was sure that that night, the monkey really didn't enjoy his presence at all.
"If you have something to say, then talk. Don't ruin the night with this."
"Then give me the handkerchief."
Erlang stopped tò eating his crabs. His expression seemed calm, for now.
"I can smell it from here. Hand it over."
"Are you afraid of some silly mortal tradition?"
"I'm afraid that another stunt from you will cause some damage that I REALLY don't want to fix."
Erlang was sure that Heard a well-hidden snarl from the monkey. He enarched his eyebrow, looking at him with an inch of doubt.
"I'm Sorry?"
"I could smell it... your scent that day... She was soaked in it."
"I tended to her for weeks. Is normal?"
"She told me you kissed her."
He didn't retract this time, preferring to avoid the angry eyes of the companion, while his first became White.
"...she told you?"
"She wanted to come clear to me, and so I am to you. Do not do anything that you would regret."
He chuckled, ignoring the desire of the monkey to just grab him and destroy him.
"It's a treat?"
"It is, if you'll go over the line. I want to protect her from what can hurt her, especially deities that can't keep their eyes on the ground? She already told me she loved me; she doesn't need confusion now."
Erlang couldn't hold a smile. He always loved some good challenges, but you weren't one. Or, at least, you were already being won.
Yuån Fèn stood up, readjusting his scarf and his neck.
"I won't tell you to stop your feelings; I can't do that. I just ask you to be concederate for your own well-being."
He reached his hand towards him, mimicking the gesture of handing over that small piece of silk. That monkey... he could be so cruel, even against a small and harmless tradition.
He gave it to the monkey, observing that stupid and small thing disappear in the monkey pocket. Before leaving to reach you and Nezha, the monkey stopped in his tracks. His eyes shining with a dark light, his teeth showing...
"I won't hesitate to destroy you to keep her with me...got it?"
The first thing that Erlang thought was that the Destined One and Sun Wukong looked so alike and so possessive.
When he keft, Erlang eyes kept in following him..and then you.
He now understands how It felt Houyi, something the man desired, yet he never reached.

Until I Found You
âWe both knew that this marriage was only on paper and the birth of Xaden is the same for me, just an obligation. I can't love a child who only reminds me of 10 ten years of lack of freedom. I must go and be happy, with the man I love and the baby I carry in my womb from him." - Recovered Correspondence to Fen Riorson from his ex-wife, Eleanor Winters. Shortly after Xaden saves Violet from torture and many cadets go to Aretia, Xaden arrives at a village razed by the Venin and discovers a girl who looks like her mother in the rubble.
English isnât my first language, so if you see any mistakes or things that look weird please tell me so I can fix them.

Chapter 2
If Xaden had learned anything long ago, it was to compartmentalise pain, no matter how much pain he felt, he should never let it be exposed, he should always keep it in little mental drawers and hide it from the world for as long as possible, praying to Dunne that he would never collapse. It was his greatest lesson since the day Navarre ended most of his family, his life in general. The pain became something he had to leave in the background, as he watched his father being executed, as the relic of the rebellion appeared in him.
So as he dismounts from Sgaeyl to survey the rubble of another village in one of the Poromish provinces, Krovla, his face is expressionless, though inside he feels only rage and pain. He can't bear to watch every week as a village falls, as civilians die, as everything seems a premonition of what the final fate is, though no one says it out loud. But he is a leader for a reason, so he must never waver or show his hopeless thoughts.
-Check if there are any survivors and if there is any unusual damage. Emery, take charge of making the report to the -he orders.
-We're bloody late -said Mira Sorrengail.
Everyone scatters through the village, amidst corpses and debris, all the bodies had been drained as usual. However, Xaden becomes alert when he notices how few people seem to live in the village.
-Why the hell attack this town? It's almost non-existent, a few miles away there are far more beneficial ones -Garrick says with the same line of thought as his friend.
-Maybe because their final destination is this way and they want us to know -he says, avoiding looking at the face of a murdered girl.
-Don't think I haven't thought about them addressing Aretia, but it doesn't make sense for them to be so undisguised.
-They know they are at an advantage of us in weapons and army, they can afford to mock us -he said bitterly.
-We're screwed -mutters Garrick.
-Too much.
                      -----------------
-Hey, there's a live girl here! -Heaton shouts in the distance.
They rushed there in deep surprise, definitely not expecting to find survivors, let alone a girl, the search for civilians was a routine action for which there was little hope. The venin never left anyone alive.
When they reached the girl, the whole platoon was gathered together without approaching the girl, with hesitant expressions.
-What's going on? -asked Garrick.
-Look for yourselves -said Sorrengail.
Surrounding them was an unconscious girl wrapped in a kind of sphere created from golden dust, which seemed to come from some kind of stone she wore in a small pendant around her neck.
-Maybe it's a rune -suggests Sorrengail.
-Impossible, the runes have another shape, this looks like a simple stone -Emery contradicts her.
-Xaden... this girl looks like... -Garrick whispers, paralysed.
Xaden doesn't answer, just stares at the girl while his hands start shaking uncontrollably.Â
-Remember to breathe -Sgaeyl tells her in the softest voice she can muster.Â
Without being able to help himself, he began to move his hand closer to the sphere.Â
-Xaden, be careful -says Garrick.
Surprisingly, Xaden, unlike the others, was able to touch the sphere without being expelled backwards, it was as if that strange magic recognized him, so much so that when he touched the girl's face he felt a caress on the arm he had inside the sphere before they disappeared. In one of the girl's closed hands, Xaden noticed that she was carrying a small blanket, he gently removed it from her hand and inspected it.
That malek will take him away soon because this blanket was identical to the one his mother made for him while she was pregnant and that he had stored in his closet.
-What are we going to do? She is the only survivor and it wouldn't hurt for her to be seen by a healer even if she has no wounds -Sorrengail asks.
-I guess we'll have to look in another town for a family to take care of her -says Heaton.Â
-We should wait for her to wake up and find out what the hell that necklace is -suggests Emery.
-Of course, because a girl who has just lost his home and family is going to tell you whatever you want -said Garrick sarcastically.
-Stop it. Gather everything, we are going back to Aretia -said Xaden without taking his eyes off the girl.Â
-But the mission is for 5 days, he has just arrived -Sorrengail argued.Â
-I don't give a shit, we let's take this girl to Aretia.Â
-I don't think you're thinking it through- Emery says.Â
-I didn't ask for an opinion, I said what I will do- Xaden says coldly, now looking at them.Â
-Relax, let's go to Aretia, okay? We have to talk about the Venin's approach to Aretia anyway- Garrick says in a conciliatory tone.Â
Emery snorts but nods, as do the others who notice Xaden's tense and dangerous expression, they head for their dragons and leave Garrick with him alone.
-Maybe it's a coincidence -suggests Garrick.
-This blanket is identical to the one my mother made for me, not to mention how similar their faces look. Besides, why has that strange orb only allowed me to touch it? Whatever it is, this girl has something.
-Whatever it is, it will be all right -his friend tries to comfort him by patting him on the back.
Xaden grabbed the girl and gently carried her to where the others were and lifted her on top of Sgaeyl in front of him so that her body rested against him. To his surprise, his dragoness didn't mind carrying someone who wasn't her rider.
-Thank you -Xaden said to his dragon.
-I know when I must put aside my principles for my rider -she replied.
Xaden didn´t respond. He was too lost in his thoughts about the unconscious girl in front of him.
-It's no use falling into a cloud of uncertainty now, you'll have time to know and think when we get to Aretia -Sgaeyl advised him.
The rider tried to follow her advice but found it impossible, he just wanted to get to Riorson house and for the girl to wake up. He had a lot of questions and one of his mental pain drawers was threatening to come out.

Best Dream Ever
Rowaelin Month 2024, Day 3: Idiots in Love @rowaelinscourt
Word count: 1.7k
Warnings: some swearing, alcohol, ridiculous amounts of fluff
Enjoy!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Why the hell is someone knocking on my door at eight p.m.? Aelin grumbled to herself as she reluctantly walked to her front door, wine glass in hand. It had been a heck of a work week, and she was a grown woman who was entitled to her post-work drink. She rose up onto her tiptoes to look through the glass panes near the top of the door and did a double take when she found her neighbor from down the street standing on her porch, looking for all the world like he was about to bolt.Â
âRowan?â She opened the door. âYou alright?âÂ
He ducked into her house, pushed the door closed, and looked frantically out the window, chest heaving like he was afraid for his life. âI am now, I think.âÂ
She raised a brow. âLook, I know weâre neighbors and friends and all that, but seriously. What the hell?âÂ
He held up his hands. âIâm sorry, Ae, I really am. I texted you like fifteen times.âÂ
âAh, shit.â She pulled her phone out of her back pocket and waved it in front of him. âDead, Iâm sorry. Ran out of battery on the way home from work and honestly havenât wanted to charge it.âÂ
âFair enough.â He walked beside her down the hallway to her living room and flopped down on the couch he liked, groaning in relief when his head hit the throw pillows.Â
âLong week for you too?âÂ
He grumbled something incomprehensible and moved the pillow off of his face. âHave you ever had six adult men show up at your door armed with gods-only-know how much booze and zero warning and proceed to set up shop in your house?âÂ
âCanât say I have,â she drawled.Â
âWouldnât recommend.â He raked his hands through his messy, pale hair. âI made the mistake of telling the guys that I got that deal with the MLB team, and they apparently decided that this was their sign to come into town and crash my weekend. Seems like I âdonât celebrate right,â whatever the fuck that means.âÂ
Aelin hid her smile behind her wine. âWhich one of the twins said that?âÂ
âFen, of fucking course,â Rowan said dryly. âWho else dâyou think could convince all the guys to drop everything and converge on my house for a weekend? Weâre not in college anymore, not like he understands that.âÂ
âIâm sure heâll come around eventually,â Aelin offered. âFor now, though, you know you always have a place here. JustâŚyou donât need to crash for the night, do you?âÂ
Pink tinged Rowanâs cheeks, and he slipped his backpack off of his shoulders. âWell, now that you mention itâŚâÂ
She laughed and stood up. âYou know where the spare room is, Ro. Want a beer or something?âÂ
âSounds fuckinâ amazing.â He went down the hall to drop off his bag in her spare room and returned a few minutes later in sweatpants and an old university t-shirt. Gratefully, he took the beer bottle from her hand and tipped half its contents down his throat. âFuck, thatâs good.âÂ
âItâs from the case of âgood stuffâ you dumped in my garage three weeks ago,â Aelin said, pairing her words with a poke to his side. âQuit using me as your beer overflow, Whitethorn.âÂ
âWho else could I trust not to drink it?â he grinned, slinging one arm around her shoulders. âIf I let one of the guys keep it at their place, itâd be gone in a day, never mind that itâs a small batch craft brew that needs at least thirty-two hours of chilling before you can really get the tasting notes.âÂ
âSnob,â she teased, turquoise eyes sparkling with laughter.Â
He smirked. âItâs called good taste, Ae, and youââÂ
A fist thudded rapidly against Aelins front door.Â
She looked at Rowan, and he looked back at her, eyes wide. âPlease donât let them in,â he whispered, and he took off down the hall to hide in the spare room.Â
âMen,â she sighed. She strolled down the hallway, peered out the window, and cracked open her door just a few inches. âWhat the hell do you want, Moon Moon?âÂ
Grinning broadly and probably tipsily, Fenrys tried to lean on her doorframe and stumbled sideways before regaining his balance. âWhereâs Rowie?âÂ
Aelin fixed the blonde man with a flat, unimpressed look. âAsk me in normal-people words, Fenny boy.âÂ
Fenrys inhaled dramatically. âMy dear darling Aelin, have you seen Rowan lately? We came to his place to celebrate him getting the MLB deal, but weâd barely been there for an hour before he said he needed to grab something from the store. Havenât seen the guy since.âÂ
âDoes this look like the store, Moon Moon?â she deadpanned.Â
âNobody thought he was actually going to the store!â Fen protested. He tried to push open her door, but she clicked her tongue and fixed him with a look that made him stop in his tracks.Â
âFen, youâre a good friend, but this is my first work-free weekend in months, and if I have to miss any more of 10 Things I Hate About You, I will eviscerate you with my work heels. Okay?âÂ
âLeaving!â he yelped. âText us if you know where Rowan is, though, yeah?âÂ
âYouâre the ones at his place, you can text him,â she returned. âGoodnight, Moon Moon. Donât fall off any rooftops again.âÂ
âIt was one time!â he yelled, but sheâd already closed the door.Â
Aelin went back down to her living room, plopped onto the couch, and grumbled something rather unpleasant about the amount of men who banged on her door at all hours of the day. âCoast is clear, Whitethorn,â she called.Â
He came back into the living room a minute later. âThanks for handling him, Ae.âÂ
âAnything for a little bit of peace, right?â His huff of a laugh tugged at a thread low in her stomach, but she ignored the odd sensation. âLet me know if you need anything that you canât find. Iâm gonna go upstairs and watch brain-rotting chick flicks until I fall asleep, but youâre more than free to watch one of those docuseries you have such a hard-on for.âÂ
âAelin!â Rowanâs face reddened, and he choked out her name in a shocked, strangled cough. âGods, whyâd you have to say it like that?âÂ
âBecause youâre too cute when youâre all flustered, buzzard,â she laughed. âGânight!â She headed upstairs to her bathroom, and after a very long shower and a solid half hour of carefully applying her skincare, she tugged one of her favorite nightgowns over her head and rolled into her bed. She could pick up the faint sounds of water running in the guest bathroom down the hall, and coupled with the soft whir of her ceiling fan, she was soon asleep.Â
Only to pop awake not quite three hours later.Â
Groaning, she rolled onto her other side and closed her eyes, taking deep steady breaths to try and encourage her restless mind to quiet down. As soon as she managed to quiet her roiling mind, though, her stomach rumbled.Â
Traitor.Â
Aelin flopped onto her stomach and ignored the growly rumble it emitted in protest, but the more she tried to fall back asleep, the more her body resisted. Finally, in defeat, she muttered a string of curses under her breath and rolled out of bed. She pushed her feet into her slippers, flicked on her bedside lamp, and crept out of her room and down the hall. She took the stairs slowly, because at least half of them creaked loud enough to wake the whole street if stepped on too firmly, but she eventually made it out to the kitchen. The glowing numbers on the oven clock flashed 1:55, taunting her with the ridiculous hour.Â
Quietly, Aelin pulled open the pantry door, scanning the shelves quickly and finding nothing that sounded particularly good. She moved over to the fridge and glanced inside, huffing in irritation when she didnât immediately think of anything quick to grab. After a few minutes, she gave up and opened the freezer, her fingers closing around the pint carton of ice cream tucked into the door shelf. She got a spoon from the drawer and sat down at one of the barstools at the high-top counter, not bothering with a bowl.Â
She was only a few bites into the deliciously rich triple chocolate when heavier footsteps creaked on the stairs and a very sleepy, very mussed Rowan half-stumbled into the kitchen.Â
His bleary gaze wandered around the kitchen, skipping over her once before snapping back to where she sat with her ice cream. The corners of his mouth tipped up, and he mumbled unintelligibly to himself. âDonât fall over,â she heard him mumble, and he slid his hand along the countertop to guide his steps as he crossed the kitchen. Straight over to her.Â
âHey, you.â She couldnât be entirely sure whether he was awake or sleepwalking, so she left her spoon in the carton of ice cream and stood up. âHaving a good dream, Ro?âÂ
ââBout to get even better.â His arms looped around her waist, and he dipped his head and kissed her. A soft hitched gasp broke from her lips, and she slid one hand up the back of his neck into his messy hair and angled his face so she could kiss him properly. It was a long, drawn-out moment before he pulled back, head tilted back to catch a gulping breath, and his eyes snapped back to hers, clear and aware. âBest dream ever.âÂ
She blinked slowly. âRo, are you asleep?âÂ
âI gotta be.â He passed the pad of his thumb over her lips. âItâs the only time I get to kiss you like this, Ae.âÂ
âRowan,â she breathed, heart skipping in her chest. âIâŚIâm awake.âÂ
His jaw went slack, and he impulsively grabbed her hand. âPinch me.âÂ
âWhat?âÂ
âPinch me, Ae. Gotta know if Iâm still dreaming.â Obligingly, she pinched the skin at the crease of his elbow, and he let out a tiny, high-pitched squeak. âFuck, thatâam I awake?âÂ
âIâd imagine so.â Her eyes traveled slowly downwards, until they landed on their linked hands. âThis wasnât what I was expecting when I came down for midnight ice cream.â Uncertainty clouded his face, and she squeezed his hand. âItâs better.âÂ
Hope, bright and buoyant, broke free in his grin. âReally?âÂ
âReally.â She closed the distance between them, rolled up onto her tiptoes to meet his lips. âI think Iâve had this dream before, but itâs better in real life.â And she kissed him.
Taravangian - Jasnah parallels
How do I feel about my favorite character having so many parallels with the main antogonist? Awesome. And terrified.
Both believe they are doing everything for the "greater goodâ˘" but in reality don't always do (because it's impossible). I don't really need to add here, it's what the whole debate thing was about. Taravangian tried to prove to Jasnah that she wasn't doing everything for the greater good, but with that he proved to her that not only SHE wasn't doing it, but that it's impossible to do. Taravangian, however still thinks HE can do it.
Both love their family very much and will betray their principles to save them. Again, self-explanatory and explored in the book. Interesting, that in neither cases killing the family member would have actually led to any good outcome. Renarin's "seeing the future interferes with other people doing the same" saved the good guys, while just killing his family with the rest of the city wouldn't have accomplished anything for T.
Both, really, REALLY need to prove their point to people. With Jasnah someone in the book (either Shallan or Dalinar) said it better than me. I can't find the quote, which annoys me, but it was something along the lines of "Jasnah didn't only prove her point, she hammered it into you". Taravangian ALWAYS tries to prove his point to people. He can't just defeat them, he NEEDS them to admit he is right. He can't just captire Thaylenah, he has to set up a debate to convince Jasnah and Fen that he is right. He can't just win the contest, he has to make Dalinar agree with him (I have so much more on this, but it deserves it's own post).
Both don't really believe in hope. Jasnah says it out loud multiple times. T doesn't have any hope for saving the world other than Kharbranth by the end of Oathbringer and doesn't have any faith in Dalinar's coalition and saving the world from Odium (see his conversation with Dalinar in Rhythm of war). He thinks that his ways are the only ways by which they could save anything (only Kharbranth in the end).
Both are rulers that don't exactly have their kingdoms anymore, but love them nontheless.
Both of them respect Dalinar a lot.
Both of them end WaT in tears because their enemy has proven correct. For Jasnah it's T himself (in her opinion), for T it's Dalinar with his "Cursing Dalinar for having been right". I am not sure in what Dalinar was proven correct, though, would welcome your opinions.
My questions are:
1. If you could spend a day doing anything you wanted, what would it be and why?
2. What do you consider your greatest strength and your greatest weakness?
3. How do you define true friendship, and who in your life embodies this definition?
Time to hear again from some of the cast of A Feather in the Forest
1. If you could spend a day doing anything you wanted, what would it be?
Fen: Oh, I would like to spend time outside. Being out in the forest is something I enjoy. Thatâs why I dream of becoming a hunter for the village. I would bring Playa along as well. We both enjoy getting out, and we both have the same dream.
Playa: To be honest, I would like to do anything other than listen to administration and politics. Ideally, I would spend the day out in the forest with Fen. We both like going outside the village, and we both wish to become hunters.
2. What do you consider your greatest strength and your greatest weakness?
Fen: That is a hard one⌠I donât like to brag or boast, and there is so much that I am good at. As for weaknesses, I can give you a clear answer to that. I donât really have much in the way of social skills. Iâm not supposed to interact much, in case anyone finds out I am in fact not a fox, but I have become close to several youngsters. I can interact with them good enough, but with most others, Iâm totally hopeless.
Playa: Strength? That would be my ability to pick up on skills. Once I learn, I will remember. As for weaknesses, I need to work on my mouth. I inherited my grandmotherâs ability to hold onto mistakes and slights, and I will go off on others for days.
3. How do you define true friendship, and who in your life fulfills this definition?
Fen: To me, a true friend is someone who always has your back. They keep us level headed, and while they may not lead us to where we want to go, they will take us where we need to go. Playa fits the description to a t.
Playa: A friend is always there for you. They keep you honest, and above all, they will be there to help you no matter what. Several youngsters I count among my friends, but the one I am closest to would be Fen.
