Billboard Wisdom: Embracing Simplicity, Exploring Meaningfully

If you had a freeway billboard, what would it say? Hey there fellow wanderers! Imagine cruising down the freeway, the wind in your hair, and suddenly, there it is – a giant billboard screaming a message at you. If I had that prime real estate, here’s what I’d beam out to the world: “Embrace Simplicity, Explore Meaningfully.” Yep, just six words, but boy, do they carry a punch! Let’s break it…

Eat Rake Love (2/18)

And so our Costa Rica trip starts here with the “new volunteer” job of raking. My first 3 days I spent 15 hours raking. All of which took place exclusively on gravel paths. Leo and Manuel (two of my favourite people I met, and who I am excited for you to meet later) were the two jolly maintenance guys in charge of this task. They spoke only Spanish and every day they would tell me to rake “todos los caminos'' even if that’s exactly what I did the previous day. But we were in the jungle and even if you rake all of the leaves on all of the paths it is a futile endeavour, because minutes later there will always be more leaves. (Which is a deep beautiful life lesson I’m sure.) Part of why I chose to do a work exchange as a form of traveling was because I was interested in trying different jobs and ways of living. As a person who spends a lot of time at a desk, there was something deeply satisfying about using my physical body to physically change the world instead of just moving tiny squares of light on a screen with zero change to my surroundings. (But I still love doing that too, of course.) By day 3 of raking, I felt like I had become a very pious monk. What exactly was I pious to? Leo and Manuel? Or the gods of raking? I’m not entirely sure, but I could see how if I kept raking the jungle floor day after day I might one day ascend to enlightenment.

I cannot begin to tell you the immeasurable sense of freedom you would feel from being atop one of the most spectacular mountains in Rio De Janeiro 🇧🇷:

A cable car 🚠 ride up, you have about three floors to the top you can explore and take photos.

The view is just breathtaking. 🥰

Separating Rio De Janeiro from the Atlantic Ocean, this is probably the second biggest highlight of Rio, after Christ The Redeemer.

I felt such a rush of energy from being up there and just seeing the entire city from above. I think much of this has to do with the awe-inspiring magnitude of nature. There are so many instances in the world in which you can see nature in its greatest form, but I have to say few can beat that of a magnificent mountain view.

June 2019. The gorgeous Ko'olau Mountains are a perfect photo spot, and from what I've heard, they are very rewarding for hikers with some spectacular views! The Ko'olau Range has about 15 main peaks and many have individual trails and can be their own half- or whole-day hike. not new to tumblr but new to having a dedicated space to share my outdoor adventures. i’ve admired all the outdoorsy people on here for quite a while and recently even got back into running - or jogging, as some people would call my speed - but i’m having fun, i’m active and want to keep that somewhere to visit for off days where i’m just not feeling it.

this photo is from a hike i did last october - i had decided to hike the cinque terre path by myself during my autumn holidays. i had admired photos from there for quite a while and never considered just going until i did. something in my head just went ‘why don’t you?’ and already i was booking a train ticket. don’t let the doubtful voices in your head stop you - if you want to do something you can make it possible for yourself. it took me the better part of my life to figure this out but it is something i want to life by more now. this shall be a reminder.

As many of you know I had gone missing for a couple of weeks, a few weeks back! Haha
