Summary: Coriolanus thinks that he's in for the normal headaches of group projects at the Creed apartment. Festus and Felix are easily distracted, but Coriolanus hopes that will work to his benefit, allowing himself more freedom in his work.

Ok so I’m finally watching pewdiepie’s skyrim playthrough and NO ONE told me how perfectly written the story is???

Stream 1; Felix breaks into random woman’s house in the first town and completely wipes the place. 2 streams later he gets attacked by hired thugs at the college of winterhold. Chat figures out the woman who sent the mercenaries was Hilde, mother of SVEN, which is the GREATEST callback in history.

So what he ends up doing is finishing Sven’s side quest with Camilla Valerius so he can have Sven as a follower. He then takes him to the tallest mountain in the game, up to a fog wall in High Hrothgar, and forced him into running INTO the fog wall until he could not stand, and then TORCHES the poor bastard and strips him of everything he owns!

So after breaking the geneva convention in 14 different languages, he disguises himself AS Sven - mind you he’s a lizard - and breaks into Hilde’s home. He then waits until night time when dear old Hilde’s fast asleep and butchers her with a bound battleaxe. When he slips off into the night, he takes on the role of Sven.

That’s when chat tells Felix that if he finds an amulet of mara he can marry Camilla, and on the road to find one he gets distracted and finds a drug den in the middle of the woods. After “sampling” the drugs, he quickly realizes his skooma had been spiked, and wakes up in the heart of a VAMPIRE LAIR.

WIP Intro

When Lilya Lamaya, a clever Bright Magic student, teams up with a trespassing Witch apprentice named Felix, they uncover the greatest secret of the floating city of Valerius, and must rescue Lilya's sister Carmen from Valerius’ clutches without bringing the city to the ground.

Genre: Middle grade fantasy

Tropes: witches, enchanted forest, floating island, hard magic system, magical girl (sorta), queer characters

Setting: SoM takes place in a region known as Pelroa, a few centuries after a war between magical factions destroyed most of the world, which has since been largely reclaimed by nature and transformed by residual magic. The City of Valerius was one of the few bastions of society to survive, and its people (Bright Mages) have been isolated on a floating island since that world-shattering event. A lake has formed in the crater Valerius left behind when it rose, and a couple of other surviving groups have made their homes among the enchanted forest there: a coven of Witches and a Shadow Mage city called Camaerahh.

Characters

Lilya Lamaya

POV character. 12, a smart girl: self-righteous, nosy, constantly challenging her teachers. She is a student at the Academy, and is dissatisfied with what the Archmages allow them to learn. She wears her heart on her sleeve, and for that reason is a somewhat controversial personality among her fellow students. She tends to boss people around that let her and butt heads with people that disagree with her.

Felix

11, a firebrand: curious, attention-seeking, fiercely loyal. Felix chases fun and excitement, and has little regard for customs and rules. When she respects someone, she shows it deeply, but when she doesn’t, she will defy them relentlessly. She is quite lonely, with only her familiar (a ginger cat named Matilda) as a companion, who acts more like her guardian than her friend. (also a trans girl!)

Carmen Lamaya

14, a prodigy: responsible, compassionate, fawning. Carmen is Lilya's older sister. She is an incredibly skilled Bright Mage, even outside of her age bracket, and as such is poised to adopt the role of konyenon, which plays an important part in keeping Valerius safe. She works hard, and loves deeply; magic, her sister, and her city all share her heart.

Lilya and Felix crept down the passage after Carmen and the Archmages. Lilya tried to keep close to the cold stone wall to stay hidden, but the passage was so narrow that it hardly mattered. The group ahead turned the corner, from which an eerie green light sprang, and engulfed in it they looked like ghosts.  “Do your Archmages usually slink around creepy hallways?” Felix whispered. “Of course not,” said Lilya. “At least, they’re not supposed to. Something isn’t right. Carmen is supposed to be in the tower so she can help the city float. I don’t know what good she’d be down here.” “I bet they do this all the time. If I were slinking around I certainly wouldn’t go telling everyone about it.” Lilya threw a smile over her shoulder. “Then let’s do just that and keep quiet.” Felix smiled back and winked.

KILGORE FITZGERALD II [he/him] "His House in Ruination" / "The Laurel Wreath" The eldest sibling of his generation, as well as the oldest brother. Of respectable military standing, even if granted due to his family's status. Is probably a nice guy under the mask. Probably in his 40s, for what that's worth. Prickish. Not much is known of his personal life or inner machinations.

AURELIUS ALOYSIUS V [he/him]

"His Mind Transcends Us" / "The Left Hand" Probably the finest mind the Family has produced. Lord knows he hides it well. Of a hedonistic and flighty disposition. A most reliable fellow in times of crisis. Known for his dalliance with his fellows among noble poets. In his late 30s, most likely. A 31th century rake.

TACITUS KILROY VI [he/him]

"His Strength Rivalled by Nature" / "The Inexorable Man" A kind-hearted fellow of prodigious strength and cosmic determination. Quiet and withdrawn, yet charitable. Product of curious experimentation during pregnancy. Around the same age as Aurelius, but a bit younger. Could carry the weight of the world, if sufficiently motivated. Considers himself a cinephile.

FLORENTIA SISYPHUS X [she/her]

"Her Estate Tainted and Unearned" / "The Heiress of Mischief" The oldest daughter and the heiress apparent of the Family. Often away in distant continents¹ attending to personal business, as it is called. Socially maladjusted, though good at acting like she isn't. Coddled beyond belief for her value to the bloodline. Doesn't have an opinion on much of anything. Likes her siblings well enough, especially her younger ones. Mid 30s, most likely. Prefers to be left alone.

FELIX MADSEN VII [he/him]

"His Knowledge Transient and Absurd" / "The Scholar" Twisted by his pursuit of knowledge that is not desirable to be known. Discovered the answer of the so-called 'MCV² spiral question', a metaphysical anomaly studied for centuries by modern academia. No one would understand if he ever thought to publish his findings. Prone to lapses into lucidity, in which he will be polite if a bit absent-minded. Has a love for ufology and conspiracies. Early 30s.

TITUS PERICLES VI [he/him]

"His Heart Rejects Us" / "The Brother-Keeper" The goodest of good fellows. Not terribly smart. Partial to Old-World³ mysticism. Forsook the Family for his brother's sake, and he didn't even need to be asked. Unintentionally funny. Has a brain-to-brain connection with Andronicus, though this manifests in sapping away Andronicus' IQ to temporarily add to his own. Unwaveringly optimistic. Probably late 20s to early 30s, though not as 30ish as Felix. Brief stint as a lawyer. Professional mobster impersonator.

ADDYSON ISADORA III [any, but prefers she/her or they/them]

"Their Mind Fractal Yet Unified" / "The Mind of Madness" The heiress presumptive of the Family, though this will never amount to anything. The kindest one of all, even if it manifests in odd puppet-based ways. Loves good fashion and magic tricks. Styles herself as a magician supreme. Has produced a series of puppets based upon her family members. Is not respected by the older members of her family, though looked on as a source of entertainment by her juniors. Late 20s.

ANDRONICUS VALERIUS II [he/him]

"His Brother's Keeper" / "The Heir of the World" A gentleman of supreme anxiety and intellect. A quiet and unnoticed scion, even at his birth. Fled into exile with Titus not long ago. Supported by his siblings in his gestalt of identity. Touched by cosmic chance. Professional lawyer impersonator. Brief stint as a mobster. Tries to help as much as he can, regardless of circumstance. Has plans of godhood. Mid 20s but feels much older. The youngest brother of the Family.

SIOBHAN LUCILLE IV [she/her]

"Her Creed Dappled with Sorrow" / "The Prime Philosophist" The Family's resident philosopher, even if she isn't very good at coming up with her own ideas. Or having an actually coherent philosophy at all. A source of vexation to the members of her Family who remember she exists. Bought one of those scam degrees online and thinks it makes her a true 'philosophist'. The only sister born out of the Iridescence⁴. Dalliances with local non-nobles are overlooked due to her insignificance to the Family's grand enmachinations. Probably had the best relationship with Andronicus not counting Titus. I'd say about early 20s, maybe very late teens.

GANYMEDE HESTIA VIII [he/she]

"His Pride Laid to Waste" / "The Speaker to Crocodiles" A mild-mannered and fun-loving child. Considers the conservation of 'special' animals to be of the utmost importance. Volunteer of the month 16 months running at the local animal sanctuary in Zürich. To be quiet honest, barely anyone in the Family remembers she even exists. Sometimes mistaken for a burgularish urchin when returning home. I'd say mid teens — 15, say.

HUXLEY JAZMINE XII [they/them]

"Their Goal Obfuscated by Spite" / "The Young Doctor" A young academic type. Lives in the lower levels of the House, close to the foundations. Lives where many haven't walked in years. Dreams of achieving the perfect biological gestalt being. I'd say early to mid teens.

ATHANASIA BARNUM I [she/her]

"Her Defiance Enrages Us" / "The Witch" The youngest child of the Family. Touched by something sinister, buried deep in the ruins of the Old-World. A complete unknown to the Family. Still has regular appointments with the house doctor. 13 years old.

rewrite daae family history :)

rewrite christine's third great grandfather was fully norwegian, which is where the name daae comes from! ;)

her grandmother was kirsten gustafsson (born in 1804) and her grandfather was felix daae (born in 1802). she immigrated to france in 1826 because her father was a highly talented craftsman and they met/married in 1828. they had gustave (daddy daae) on june 13th, 1829

gustave met pierre valerius in 1838 and they instantly became best buds. the daaes went to coney island for gustave's birthday in 1839, which inspired him to move to the countryside many years later

kirsten's dream was to return to sweden. she got her wish when felix died in 1862 and moved to sweden with gustave. he played the violin at various events, one of which was a wedding

charlotte leroux was born in france, but moved to uppsala after taking a vacation there. she and gustave fell in love in august 1864, marrying in mid april 1865. they visited perros-guirec in france and wanted to move there, but gustave's stubborn af mom wouldn't let them. so they stayed in sweden, moving to the peaceful village of ryd

they made plans to tour sweden when their baby was old enough. as 1866 rolled around, charlotte suddenly became ill. she hoped the sickness would be over by the time the baby was born, but she went into labor a couple weeks early

christine was born on january 8th, 1866 and was named after her grandmother and mother. charlotte passed away a few days later, sending gustave into depression. christine was his shining light

when the last famine hit in 1867, he made plans to move back to france. he wanted his mom to go, but she was stubborn and insisted on staying in her homeland with relatives

gustave and christine left during the summer of 1868, visiting the beach of hökafältet before traveling to le havre through the north sea. they settled in giverny… and the rest is history! ;)

I would not be burdened with incessant whining.” And with that, Valerius took a sip of his wine to help him tolerate the present conversation.

Skye I return and I come bearing questions for Story of Magus!

What exactly is a "firebrand" are they kinda like a fire bender (fire witch?) or is it something completely different?

What does Archmages allow the students to learn and not learn?

How does the role of konyenon keep the city safe?

I see in the warning "drowning" so tell me (if you're willing) what's in the lake beneath the city or better yet what do the city goers believe to be below the surface of that water?

“firebrand” is just a nice word that i thought described felix’s personality. although, maybe i can work with that…

i’m still working through the details of what students at the academy are taught. i’m mulling over the idea that the academy itself is basically just a front to allow Valerius to screen kids with strong magical ability without actually teaching them anything substantial. but for a more concrete answer, i know for a fact that they’re taught mostly harmless Bright magic, like Light spells, simple Holding spells, basic Bright magic theory, and lots of severely skewed history lol. they would withhold anything that might make the students a threat or a liability like Fly spells or any sort of offensive magic. when i know more about exactly what Bright magic can do, i’ll have a better answer hehe

the konyenon is Valerius’ most important figure (on the surface anyway). they are supposed to be a very powerful Bright mage whose job is to keep Valerius afloat (the public isn’t informed of the details). over time the Archmages have conflated that role with a sort of psuedo-religious savior figure, which is very useful for manipulating their citizens. there’s a lot of talk of sacrifice and angelic imagery. but what the konyenon actually does is one of Valerius’ greatest secrets >:) i’m not gonna reveal it just yet! still trying to decide how open i want to be about the plot of my WIPs lol

ah yes the lake. (as an aside, i love your questions because they reveal just how much worldbuilding i still have to do haha)

i will admit, i am entertaining the idea of there being some kind of monster in the lake. but i think it would be more thematically appropriate to include something benevolent, or at least harmless. as for Valerius, i’m not sure if they would know it even exists. there is a tall wall around the edge of the island, which actually does prevent people from falling off the damn thing (and shields them from stray enchantments floating through the air) (AND protects against creatures lol) but it also means that citizens of Valerius don’t really have a view of the surface. they have to rely on what the Archmages tell them about it.

but i do like the idea of the Shadow Mages of Camaerahh having a relationship with the lake. i haven’t talked much about them because i’ve focused a lot on Valerius, but the Shadow Mages see the lake as a bastion of life. it’s a great source of food and the land surrounding it is healthy. it was formed in the crater of Valerius, and so in some ways it’s free of the magical fallout that covers the rest of the world, being newer than all of it.
