Félix loved every bit of weather Pepa brought, from the misty rain to the rolling thunder, but this was his favourite. The baking hot sun that reminded him of home, that warmed him from head to toe. He knew that sometimes, their ideas (because it was not just Pepa, no, he did it as well) ran away from them. He knew that so often they planned just for those plans to go awry. But if even the idea of it made Pepa this happy, who was he to go poking holes in it?
And he had to admit, it would be nice. Having everyone together, their family, as whole as it ever could be. Félix had missed having an extra brother, you know. When you had been an only child like he did, you had to collect as many siblings as you could. So wouldn't it just be the cherry on the cake, to have Bruno there? If Félix had his own personal weather system, his sun would be burning brightly too.
"I don't doubt you can do it, mi vida," He chuckled, giving her hand a gentle squeeze. "It'll be good. For all of us. For him, too."

Maria Felipa de Oliveira was an Afro-Brazilian revolutionary, capoeirista, and freedom fighter who played a crucial role in Brazil’s fight for independence from Portuguese colonial rule in the early 19th century. She is celebrated for her courage, strategic warfare, and contributions to Black resistance in Bahia, a region with a strong African cultural presence.
Born in Itaparica, Bahia, Maria Felipa was a fisherwoman and laborer who became involved in resistance movements against Portuguese forces. As a skilled capoeirista, she used Afro-Brazilian martial arts for self-defense and combat, organizing a group of warriors, including other Black and Indigenous women, to fight against colonial oppression.
Her most famous act of resistance occurred during Brazil’s War of Independence (1822–1823), when Portuguese forces attempted to maintain control over Bahia. Maria Felipa led a group of women in a bold attack on Portuguese ships, using a mix of guerrilla warfare, deception, and direct combat. Disguised as seductresses, they lured Portuguese soldiers into a trap, then set their ships on fire, crippling the enemy’s naval power and contributing to Bahia’s eventual liberation.
She was also known for mobilizing Afro-Brazilian and Indigenous communities, encouraging Black and Indigenous people to resist slavery and fight for Brazil’s independence. Her leadership helped strengthen the rebellion against Portuguese rule, though her contributions were often overlooked in official histories dominated by elite male figures.
Despite her significance, Maria Felipa’s legacy was long suppressed, reflecting the broader erasure of Black and female heroes in Brazil’s independence narrative. Today, she is recognized as a symbol of Black resistance, female empowerment, and Afro-Brazilian cultural identity. Her story continues to inspire movements advocating for racial justice, gender equality, and the recognition of Afro-Brazilian contributions to history.

In Chinese class, we are reading New Practical Chinese Reader 4 lesson 40. It's about women's role in society. This week's homework was to write about a Brazilian woman.
I was torn between Maria Felipa, Bertha Lutz and Maria da Penha, but chose Maria Felipa.
I had to look up so many words... 😢

The drizzle was just as welcome as the sunshine. And Félix had come prepared; he hadn’t wanted Pepa to ruin her outfit, not before they went out for dinner, and so he reached down into his bag and drew out an umbrella, popping it over and holding it above them both.
“Come on,” He said, offering his free arm to his wife. “Let’s go to dinner. I told them to have a bottle of champagne waiting, when we get there.”
Because as nervous as he had been, he had always known how proposing to Pepa again would go. He had loved her since the moment he saw her, even if he had been too young back then to really know how it was he felt. And through all of their ups and downs, he had been quite sure that Pepa had always loved him, too.
“We can discuss details, too,” He grinned, leading her back towards the shore. “Since we have a party to plan.”

All was still not quite right at home. Everyone had gone back totheir business, pretending to go back to normal, but of course things could not go back to the way they were before. Félix did his best to act like there was nothing wrong, but of course it was impossible. The rift that had formed within the family could not be repaired just by ignoring it all together.
The house was mostly quiet, which at least meant that Félix didn't have to put on too much of a front. He had come home during the early hours of the morning, well before sunrise, on a long late shift that had left him exhausted. He had managed a decent amount of sleep, but he still wasn't quite in the mood to have to put on an act.
He had only just changed, about to go downstairs and get himself some lunch (well - breakfast, to him, but lunch for the rest of the town), when he almost ran directly into his wife.
Félix jumped as well, but his was slightly less dramatic - he only stumbled back a step before he recovered himself, and got a proper look at Pepa. He chuckled weakly, looking at the shoes that were held aloft. "Well, I'm glad I'm not whoever you thought it was, hm? Those shoes would make a good weapon."
Though, of course, he knew who she thought he was. He liked to think Pepa wouldn't use her shoes agains her own mother...

HEAR ME OUT spoiler alert loveless
SUNIL AND JASON DATING. AND I HAVE REASONS.
Sunil's gay right? Jason's sexuality is not mentioned but I feel like they could still have chemistry. I have three reasons:
1. When the main characters are moving in together Jason says that he wants to sleep downstairs and a bit later Sunil mentions they would also like to sleep right next to Jason's room. See where I'm going? Like they would have the whole floor to themselves. And
2. How Jason reacts when he sees Sunil in a skirt. Sunil dresses as Velma in part four. Jason loves Scooby Doo. He may have just been shocked about seeing them dressed like Scooby Doo characters but I think it was also Sunil's skirt.
3. When Pip and Rooney kiss and Rooney leaves, Georgia has to find her and everything, but meanwhile Jason and Sunil are just sitting waiting at the theatre. It also depicts them sharing a bag of popcorn. They were both sitting together.
Bonus reason: Sunil genuinely seems interested when he talks to Jason. I know friends do that, but with everything else, I think they're flirting. If there was a sequel to Loveless then I need to see that. Ooo and it also mentions that they text a lot outside of Shakespeare soc.

@felipaed, dover castle, mary's apartments
Mary was weary, travel and events doing their part to exhaust her, but there was little in the world that could bring her as much joy as her children did. As soon as they had been born, they had been a saving grace to her, and she had endeavored to do what she could to show them tenderness, to honor what she had seen in her own mother. Goodness and softness, but strength too.
Granted, there was no denying that her children each had their own troubles, and it would be a lie to say that Mary found no disappoint in that. But she had no heart to see them hurt, and turned her eyes from any indiscretions so long as no one was being hurt.
She sat with a book in her lap, attempting to settle her mind after a long day, when Philip came to her rooms. The news she bore was painful, but it would be best to get it out of the way, and she knew that she would be a better messenger for it than her husband, indulgent as she was with their feelings.
"Come, mi principe, sit with me," she bade him, gesturing him close to her side. "I have missed you both so terribly. Have you been well-treated? We have hardly had time to speak since I arrived. Spare your mother no details."
