I have to give my cat an inhaler for probable asthma, and I thought it would be okay because he doesn't love things near his face but he was tolerating it.

But then as soon as he smells the actual inhaler gas, he starts jerking his head to try to get away. I'm giving him treats afterwards but he's not really very food motivated and I worry that his hatred for this will outpower his love of churus.

But I really wanted to work out because 0.2 mL of liquid steroids every day is not probably a good long-term solution

For most of his life, Rory has been a very physically strong cat - an adaptation he had to pick up in order to survive after his previous owners declawed all four of his paws before abandoning him. So before his illness, his steps just had this immense force behind them. Early on in my relationship with Silas, I learned Rory was an incredibly affectionate animal and that he would often sleep on top of them in bed.

On one of my first nights in Silas’s bed, I woke to this immense pressure and weight on my chest and throat. I started to panic, thinking I was either having my very first night terror or a surprise asthma attack. Once I was awake enough to open my eyes and grab my phone’s flashlight, I discover that the hindrance to my breathing was Rory standing on my chest, purring loudly, while kneading my throat out of affection. It was one of the funniest moments of my entire life.

Vanessa straightened up, a hint of reluctance in her expression. "I wish I could stay longer, but duty calls. I just wanted to make sure you're okay."

Y/N's heart sank a little at the prospect of Vanessa's imminent departure. "I appreciate it, Vanessa. Thank you for checking in on me."

Their eyes met, a brief but charged moment of connection that lingered in the air, unspoken words hanging between them like unopened letters.

With a sigh, Vanessa nodded. "Take care of yourself, Y/N. I'll swing by again soon, okay?"

Y/N nodded, a mixture of disappointment and understanding tugging at her heartstrings. "I'll be here. Stay safe out there."

Vanessa offered a small smile before turning to leave, Maylo trailing after her for a few steps before darting back inside. Y/N watched her go, the faint echoes of Vanessa's presence lingering in the air even after she was gone.

went to the vet this morning with hoagie. his chest x-rays have been sent out to a specialist to confirm but it looks like it’s feline asthma that we’re dealing with. i’m glad we ruled out the big stuff (cancer, tumor) at least 🩵

Took Ginger to the vet about some reoccurring issues she’s been having and found out that she has asthma. It isn’t very severe and she doesn’t currently need any medication or an inhaler

hey lovelies. so as said before i am going to attempt to get back into things this week. the past month has been.... fucked. i legit got hives on the 3rd of oct, that are still hanging around, just coming and going as they please (i can't investigate the cause unless it lasts beyond 8 weeks, the joys). on top of that, i was getting testing done all month, and once they were done i got a diagnosis on top of two more possible ones i have to look into, ugh. and the cherry on top of a fucked month, my cat had laboured breathing and had to go to the vet two weeks ago, he was diagnosed with feline asthma and a chest infection so had to go on steroids along with an inhaler. ✨the joys✨

i am going to spend a day or so working out if my brain wants to keep current threads or start afresh. i've truly missed you all and all our threads so very much and i truly appreciate all of you for being so patient with me.

not to ask tumblr dot com for an armchair diagnosis for my pet (vet appt for this IS scheduled) but if anyone has any experience with cats with respiratory infections and/or feline asthma

Does This sound like an asthma attack? He keeps having them every other day (obv could be more often since I'm at work during the day) and they mostly last around a minute or two. He shows no other symptoms otherwise. He's eating as usual, still super playful and affectionate with my other cat, not lethargic in any way. They seem to come out of nowhere, without any real trigger I can make out, and started like three weeks ago. Before that he DID have kinda audible breathing and snored in his sleep but I didn't think to have that checked out since he's super anxious still and deeply mistrustful of people and I didn't want to overreact and put him through the additional stress of dragging him to a vet for what seemed like nothing, but in hindsight I probably should have.

My other cat has no symptoms at all, so it doesn't seem to be anything infectious.

I think one of our cats, sox, might have feline asthma and I’m trying to get my mom to get him to the vet to find out for 100%, and she thinks it’s just a hairball he’s not coughing up or dust. But I got a video of him breathing and it seems like he’s breathing heavier than the other two cats even when relaxed and he coughs a lot and he’s crouched with his neck out which according to the research I did, is a common symptom of cats with asthma.

I just keep telling my mom that yes making sure the house isn’t dusty is good but that I think there’s something definitely going on that isn’t right… I feel like she’s coming around to the idea of getting him checked out but idk.

It’s breaking my heart watching sox cough and maybe even struggle to breathe 😭😭😭😭 I’m contemplating taking him to the vet myself even though my mom would get mad at me.. I hate seeing animals struggle or be uncomfortable. And sox is her favorite so you’d think she’d get him to the vet immediately.

Butch's Medical Fund

I never thought I would be posting one of these but here we are. My (fur)baby, Butch Catsidy (we call him Butch for short) is having some serious medical issues. He was diagnosed with asthma 3 years ago, which we have been treating and he has been living well with, until recently. 

Anyways, Butch is not in great shape. He started sounding more congested than usual, despite using his inhalers, so I took him to the vet. X-Rays showed that his asthma has worsened, he may have bronchitis or pneumonia, and he has a partially collapsed lung as a consequence of this. He is now on antibiotics, steroids, a bronchodilator, and nasal drops in addition to both his inhalers. They are helping, but the doctor is recommending further diagnostics. They want him to get an echocardiogram to see if his heart could possibly be exacerbateing his asthma, and a rhinoscopy, because his nasal breathing sounds like he could potentially have a polyp or mass in his upper airway. This is where I beg on the internet for your help, lol. 

Butch is my child. I am unable to have children of my own. Listen, he is my baby, the tiny love of my life, and I am completely terrified that he might be taken from me, especially if it's because I don't have enough money to give him the care she needs. I know as a pet owner we have to be prepared for these things, but I've already spent thousands on him, and as you all probably know, the economy has been rough recently. At this point I don't know what else to do.
