Love love love characters that present themselves as emotionally open social butterflies but the more you see of them the more obvious it is that they’re the most closed off fuckers in the story. Sure, they want to help you with your personal problems and messy emotions, but if you turn that shit back on them, they’ll shut down or deflect every time. Why are you sticking your nose in their business anyway? It’s not like it matters. They’re not a person, they’re just a role being played. They’re the guy who fixes things and saves people. Please ignore the man behind the mask, he’s fine. Everything’s fine.
#yeah#I know this is not fandom specific but I'm tagging it anyways as#Doctor Who meta#Also I have an interesting relationship with this dynamic#because I feel like a lot of people here are like 'oh I do this'#and don't get me wrong I'm not saying I DON'T do this#But I think I'm not very good at it#Which is probably good

Julian Bashir meeting an alternate universe version of himself who still goes by Jules. Jules doesn't fake eye contact as well as Julian. When he speaks, it's mostly in short direct sentences, as few words and as to the point as possible. He can still ramble for an hour on a topic he's passionate about though.
Julian realising in slow horror that Jules is also a doctor. Jules also works for Starfleet. Jules is also stationed on DS9. Jules is friends with his own Garak, who thinks he is delightful and intelligent and interesting. Jules is still friends with a Miles O'Brien who thinks he is a little weird and off putting but will fist fight anyone who talks bad about him. They still play darts and racquetball, though Jules isn't quite as good, he and Miles still treat each other as friendly rivals.
Jules, who is still a diligent and dedicated professional, who takes pride in his work as a doctor, and whose parents were arrested and charged before he ever set foot on Adigeon Prime. Jules, who mended Kukalaka and continued to stitch him up for years to come just like Julian.
The slowly dawning horror Julian has at realising that this is who he might have been, and that Jules is, in fact, fine. He wasn't top of his class, but he's still a damn good doctor. He can't work for three days straight without sleeping, but he's no less dedicated. He's not as physically adept, but he's doing fine. He's loved. He's fulfilled. He's happy.
Julian Bashir isn't sure how any of that is making him feel about himself at all, nor does he know why he finds himself crying himself to sleep that night.

As we see a barrage of evil executive orders come in, they are not immediately enforceable and will takes months or years to implement.
That’s still not great, but don’t let these pile up to the point of hopelessness. Take a breath, and look community leaders who will fight it every step of the way.
#going to submit my passport application for an X marker just as soon as I figure out how exactly to pay for it from Canada#I'm lucky as a dual citizen that I have my Canadian passport regardless#so I'm not going to back down on my US Passport if it's possible to get it with the correct marker#actually submitting the application is proving difficult though#because I cannot get a USD money order here#it looks like there's a website you might be able to pay with?#but they have a bunch of warnings not to pay there unless you've been specifically told to#so I'm just making an appointment with the embassy and figuring it out there because that's what the guy at my bank told me to do

This painting for Gallifrey One turned into a sudden nightmare when several of my supplies did not work as expected, especially the turquoise watercolor pigment which ended up Rather Black and the masking fluid that was sticky sticky sticky
But we survived :]

Bones stopping to help the man on crutches that Kirk just mowed down, while they are literally running for their lives from armed guards on the way to save future Earth, is a seriously underrated moment from The One With the Whales.
It may not be as obvious as the moment with the woman who grows a new kidney - but equally shows him as a healer who values his oath above all else.

i’m a bit high
i’ve always felt like being born on the first of the month was a lil fun and fancy but then i began to wonder if that’s just how everyone feels about their birthday. so i made a poll about it.
#I like my birthday because a) it's the same as my dad's#and b) the month and day are the same number so I don't have to figure out which order to write them in

I know it's partially that they're very good at presentations, but I watched the 22 minute preview trailer thing for Civ VII and I did cry a little when the lead animation person talked about how important it is that they get their representations of different cultures right because it might be the first time that someone's seeing their culture represented in a video game.
Overall I'm excited to see it. I think it's interesting that they're taking the idea of switching civs each age like humankind has. I was a little iffy on it at first because in Humankind I found it kind of frustrating, but they made a good point that it helps a lot with balancing civs so you don't have problems like Scotland only being good once you get to the late game. Only three ages is also pretty manageable. I think I find it frustrating once you get to seven ages per game like Humankind has.
Also, I'm always impressed at how they managed to make each game look visually distinct but also consistent. And Christopher Tin is doing the music again so that's nice.
#Civilization#I am talking#I know I haven't posted it all about 4x games here but I actually play them a lot#I play once a week with my family#we were playing civ vi but switched to Millennia for a change of pace#I've also been playing Ara on my own and it's been fun too

it really is kind of wild just how many times julian wakes up to someone skulking around in his bedroom. Fake Dax did it. Garak did it. Sloan did it three separate times!! Plus he was kidnapped twice in his sleep, once by Sloan and once by the Dominion. The poor guy must have so many issues regarding sleep. He can never know that he'll wake up in the same place or that others havent been there without him knowing.

love how 11 is always considered the childish one when 12 canonically asked for a kids' menu on his first day alive and then some time later had beef with a 14 y/o. and he lost
#Doctor Who#Doctor Who meta#I read a theory once years ago that the Doctor doesn't really change much between regenerations#but acts differently sometimes because people treat them differently#and I've always found it interesting
