What is your opinion/boundary when it comes to using your art as inspiration or reference, or even tracing? Obvi that particular person straight up copied whole drawings of yours many times, and that’s an extreme case where it’s easy to see that they’re far out of bounds. But what would you consider to be acceptable use/tracing of references, using your work as reference? Thx in advance!!

i separate my fan art from my original art in my head, since fan art so often breaches containment and a lot of people treat it like a community thing, i’ve adjusted my boundaries around it for my own ease.

in short: you can do whatever you want with my good omens fan art. obviously prefer if credit is given where possible, always given if asked, and always displayed clearly if you’re tracing it for whatever reason.

i’m a little more protective of my original art, so i hope this makes sense:

you can trace my original art if you’re giving it to me as fan art of my work. people have done “redraws” before and i love them.

i’m ofc okay with the kind of inspiration that comes up naturally, like, “oh i love how that elf has big floppy bunny ears, i wanna give my elf ears like that!” and same goes for anything that my art might inspire, that you then tweak for yourself

i generally wouldn’t recommend copying my poses 1:1 anyway, since my anatomy can be pretty borked at times, and when it’s stronger i’ve likely used a photo reference. you’re welcome to ask for the references i’ve used for any given piece 💛

slightly less related but you CAN use my original art for icons and banners, but credit is mandatory. i would also prefer if it’s only characters that appear in my stories (rechargeable, paranomads etc), bc i think i’d feel weird if someone used a free floating OC (mister b, my vampire lesbians etc) as a pfp

Favorite part of cowriting?

Knowing that you’re Making Things with someone else is always super fun!! So often while writing alone, I’ll lose motivation to work on smth bc I have no one there to keep me going—but that’s not an issue with a co-writer :D I think there’s also just. a certain comfort in having someone who you feel you can share all your ideas with + bounce jokes off of. Also. The Bits—not even all for fic planning lol. For instance, the weird color thing going on in this post is me riffing off whatever tf Melon’s has going on rn lmfao. Least favorite part of cowriting?

Logging onto the doc to write and seeing Melon’s icon just. Staring at me menacingly. (Bri thankfully does not have a pfp that stares LOL)  asjdklf;sjls;kdj idk—logically I know they’re not like. Judging everything I write but it’s just Weird. *shrug* Really, though, there’s nothing I actively dislike about it lol

How did you meet?

Melon straight up just DM’d me on Tumblr w/ three story ideas asking if I’d be interested in a collab, and I said yes! Bri happened to join the CTHL discord server later on, and after joking about working on a oneshot for the series, joined us in working on the installments we have in progress currently :) It was all very much a stroke of luck that I’m running with for as long as I can lol

What's the brainstorming process like?

Typically, we’ll start with a few characters/plotlines we want to include (ex. Scar’s silent grief in CTHL, Gem’s longing for a sense of home, etc.) and then bounce ideas and jokes off each other until we come up with enough to write up a scene by scene outline. It’s always cool to see what the others come up with since they’ll sometimes toss out ideas that would put me out of my comfort zone to write—fun fact: CTHL was the first time I ever wrote Etho, and like. half the CTHL cast tbh

What's the system for writing?

We all just. chuck words at the draft doc when we have free time. Yeah.

Favorite thing you've written together?

The very first descriptions of Meris Hollow in CTHL are near and dear to my heart since I think that was the part for me where it clicked just how well Melon’s and my writing could blend?? I remember splicing together bits of their description with some of mine and realizing I couldn’t tell who’d written what but that it was gorgeous

In chapter 4 of CTHL, the convo between Gem and Grian was mostly freestyled tbh (we knew it was going to take place but not the content in it) but it turned out to be one of my favorite scenes in the fic

But besides that, I absolutely adore the new art you have created! The lighting in it makes it look as if it was taken by an actual camera as if it was in real life. I may not know that character, but you made them look positively lovely, Shi-Shi. I may have felt a little bit of disgust that they are licking a skull, but it is a great piece of artwork and art is supposed to make you feel emotions like that.

I'm glad that you like Tez! I drew him initially as a new background for my PC, but I got too carried away with the lighting and colors. It was kinda hard to see my icons, but I couldn't bear to desaturate him.

Tez is a creepy little dude (he's my version of the Mesoamerican god of beauty, shadows and discord),so him giving you the "ew" reaction while still being a pretty boi is perfect. I actually permitted myself an evil chuckle when I read that part of your ask.

Semi-unrelated here: Tezcatlipoca (Tez) is an original character from a series I've been working on called "The Flowers of Xibalba". I've put it on the back-burner in favor of fandom stuff and a different series I'm drawing panels for in my free time.

I hope you don't mind, but I took your list of points about this update and reworded them slightly to submit a "feedback" post to the Staff.

If anyone else wants to send in a feedback response on this topic, I've posted the message I sent below the cut, feel free to copy, tweak, paste, add to it, etc, whatever.

I have to strongly protest the decision to remove/hide profile pictures on posts that are reblogged. There's a slew of reasons this damages fucntionality, and destroys the user experiance on the platform, but off the top of my head I can think of;

It makes it more difficult to identify my friends and other users. Many people are visual, and use profile pictures to iidentify users.

It ruins the sense of community by hiding a users individual profile pictures.

I can't tell, at a glance, who is online right now and what they might be interested in.

Many of us use the Tumblr Default PFP to help us figure out who are bots and who are real users on the website. Hiding the Profile Picture makes this much more difficult.

Without the profile picture, it makes it difficult to tell who put a post on my dashboard. Especially if it's a longer post, I have to scroll back up to check.

On that note, I don't always recognise usernames. This is made especially hard to tell who a user is if they decide to change their username. With a profile picture I can look at it and recognise who a user was. Like looking at someone's face.

I can't click on my own profile picture at the top of the dash to quickly view my own blog.

Aesthetically, it squahses the margins between the menu and the posts, which makes the whole dashboard feel craped.

Without profile pictures, there is no longer a quick and easy visual cue to see where each post begins and end. This is an especially helpful cue if I'm trying to scroll past posts I've seen before.

Your users often put a lot of creativity and individuality into their icons, and now I don't get to see them.

It makes users who primarily reblog content all but disappear into the site. This is detrimental to the community building aspect of Tumblr that I so very much love.

And I'm sure there are others. These are just the issues this update brings immediately to mind. I'd humbly ask that the Staff (and Management) reconsider this update, as it's negatiely impacting user experiance across the board.
