he was tracing constellations on your arm with the tip of his finger, slowly and deliberately, like he was memorizing the shape of you just as thoroughly as the stars.

“i always liked this one,” he murmured, pointing to the cluster overhead. “orion. a hunter. brave. focused. always searching.”

you looked up at him curiously. “searching for what?”

he smiled, but it was bittersweet. “something worth holding on to.”

your heart stuttered. xavier wasn’t usually so open. his affections more often felt like warmth through layers, not the searing honesty of a glance like this.

“you found something?” you asked, half-teasing, half-shyly.

he leaned down, brushing his nose against yours. “you.”
