The whisper of leather sounded as they moved; soft cuffs around their wrists were bound by a long leather lead to a metal loop fixed to the wall. Another set of cuffs was affixed to their ankles with an 18 inch strap.

"Easy, easy, baby- take is slow," he soothed, sympathy thick in his voice. "I'm so, so sorry, but you gave me no choice- you know that, right?"

Space Marine Husbandry Sentience AU Plot Beats

So I decided to write out the BARE BONES Basics of what it means to use my AU

Bonds are the bread and butter of this AU

Warp fuckery: Either it be Space Marines becoming docile (enough) to live with their human or on the human end of being sedated enough to stand the horrors that occasionally slip out... of course they wont remember the nightmarish conditions their Raven Guard said they experienced as a child... the warp wont let that paint their bonded like that

We've got space marines from the unification wars all the way to Primaris marines (Timeline is wide open)

The setting itself is a slice of life with a LARGE importance on domesticity and just humans being humans aka bonding with each other no matter how weird it is all HOWEVER the setting should also (not every story needs it but it is something part of the setting) be aware that there is various flavors of horror (body, fridge, domestic, cosmic, etc) and gratuitous violence in the setting.

The focus of the setting really is about the relationships between people and astartes; either between people who are and aren't affected by the warp; the astartes both early and late into the timeline; and loyal and chaos all having to live together on this one world so deep in the past of the setting.

What could be explored more?

The fact that they've been around since the 40s (maybe even earlier like the 20s) which means that western culture probably isn't exactly the same (because of Astartes Influence)

Astartes influenced goods/products (Basically there is a whole secondary economy as well as products either made by Astartes for other Astartes or made by Astartes for humans)

Ashton in the past few years had always been an occasional visitor to the roof, balloting for his own plot in order the help conduct some experiments on root vegetables. Sometimes he'd just go up there enjoy the sun, read a book, but the scenery didn't really make for a pretty backdrop anymore. He tensed and turned hearing footsteps that joined him. RUBS MY HANDS TOGETHER IN A VERY EXCITED MANNER LIKE A FLY WHO HAS DISCOVERED STRAWBERRIES

Cirque du Soleil ("circus of the sun") is a Montreal-based company that's been producing animal-less circus shows since 1984 (you may recall a joke about this from Madagascar 3 lol). Most follow a very basic plot of "[character] gets isekai'd for approximately 1h38m then goes home" but it's honestly so much more fun to make up stories one one's own imho. They're also usually composed in Grommelot, an invented language that's usually a mix of multiple languages and gibberish - i.e., it's not supposed to be understood.

A little-known fact about me is that I grew up watching recordings of these shows (because ALMOST EVERY SINGLE ONE HAS A PROSHOT 🙏) and love them to bits. I've seen Alegria (pre-revival), Kooza, and Kurios live as well.

The official CdS youtube channel has been uploading tons of compilations since 2020. This year, to celebrate the company's 40th anniversary, they've also been releasing a bunch of abridged versions of their shows, which you can view on youtube here.

I'm going to yammer on about my 3 favorites under the cut now :))))

1: Varekai

oghhghgh my gosh I love this show. so much. absolutely devastated it's not touring anymore :(. If they ever bring it back then I NEED to see it. You understand

This has one of the more plotty premises: rather than falling to the sea and dying, it begins with Icarus falling into a strange land and healing through the power of... love? Communal support? It doesn't really matter because the MUSIC and the STAGING and the COSTUMES oh my GOD the COSTUMES. It's such a bright and fun time with good vibes all around and I cannot recommend it enough. Bonus for Greek mythology references. Did I mention the COSTUMES

2: Quidam (2 and 3 are interchangeable for me, depends on my mood)

CdS claims that this show isn't about much. This is a lie. I could write SO MANY ESSAYS on the symbolism in Quidam and all the different interpretations people have about it. Its soundtrack is also an absolute banger that I love listening to on my own time.

The only thing to be aware of before going into Quidam is that it's a bit of a downer. I think it's the most somber of any CdS show I know of.

3: Alegria (original)

Possibly the most well-known CdS show. No joke, I think I've been watching this proshot for my entire life. I think I saw this proshot before I ever saw a cartoon.

Another great soundtrack - I like the original 1994 recording the best. Francesca Gagnon is ICONIC as the singer in white.

This is one of the few non-isekai shows out there; it depicts a kingdon that has just lost its king and shows a brewing tension between the "old birds" in the aristocracy and the young upstarts who hope for structural change.

Mystère may have been the show that solidified the CdS format, but Alegria is so ridiculously well-known and unforgettable that it's always struck me as the cirque show. It makes for a great entry point.

I saw you're a fan of Wild, and you've read some fics and such, are there any that you'd recommend to someone that wants to get to know a bit more of his character? I'm biased to Legend, as he's easier for me to draw, but I've been wanting to dive deeper into the personalities of the others in the chain, particularly Wild, as he's set up for a lot of character growth in the og comic.

(not lu but still really good :)) ) the worldbuilding is,,, mwah things that go unnoticed about hyrule - this entire series of oneshots eats but this one is probably my favorite. hyrule & wild bonding but in the You Get It way

it's me wild! find me in the future! - wild stays for totk and the chain goes through the stages of grief live. i just??? enjoy the characterization for this???? everything that didn’t kill me - basically a 50 things that wild told the chain how he got his scars. this one is here for the whimsy. while reading i literally went "I GET IT. I UNDERSTAND" bc of some of the things listed also happened to me while playing botw. this one isnt serious in the slightest only the wild ones - the chain meet wild at various stages in his life. big brother twilight baybeeee mixing our history into our batter - aurora and wild bake together. this one just made me happy dude idk its just full of whimsy and silliness from castle town to ordon - wild is socially anxious, rich, and a menace, more at eleven i'm a riddle in nine syllables - the chain are ghosts that help wild on his adventure. i read this one real recently and i!!!! yk?

people who claimed to finish crossword puzzles in ten minutes or less were full of shit. jude would end up staring at a set of empty boxes for ten minutes alone before her pen would even ink the first letter. either those people were cheating or they’d managed to memorize the entirety of the thesaurus — the dictionary too. she wasn’t sure why she did them, to waste time mostly, but more often than not the margins would be decorated with flowers, smiley faces, and the occasional ‘superman s’ instead of an actual answer. this time around, she’d gotten relatively far along. just a few words left. prying her lips from the straw she'd been absentmindedly gnawing at ( how ladylike ), she sat back and straightened out. god forbid she hunch, could even hear her mother's grating voice barking at her in her head 'shoulders back, chin up, tits out' ... granted she only ever abided by the two formers, never the latter. each heavy blink rid her vision of the checkered boxes, but she couldn't accept defeat just yet. wouldn't dare. “ hey, ” she eventually chirped, an attempt to address whoever happened to be within earshot. “ you wouldn't happen to know a word for ‘a gathering of crows’ would you ? ” pen tapped along the corresponding spaces, “ six letters. ”

at: halloween event

isadora pranced through the beach, high heels forgotten the moment her feet touched the sand. she loved this: the clashing between booming voices and loud music, the whole town coming together in spooky celebration just to have a good time. and adding costumes to the mix made everything more interesting ( people tended to be bolder when dressed up as someone else ). if it was up to isa, every single day would be like this.

she made her way to a specific spot she had previously found. it was unremarkable really, just sand, rocks, and some bushes, but that was exactly why it was perfect. after making sure she was not being watched, isa started rummaging for the... stuff she had hidden there. fuck yeah. she grinned as she took out one of the bottles. tequila, bingo ! now really ready to party, the girl turned around; and thankfully didn´t drop the liquor when seeing the person right in front of her. her smile stayed; " oh! want a shot ? "

Instead, it was proving to be a headache, as she found herself (very early on) messing up.
