Hey, I just wanted to let you know that I saved your post recommending the Riddle-Master trilogy almost a decade ago, and then I found the post again deep in my blog while looking for something else and impulsively decided to buy it. I just now finished the Harpist in the Wind, and it was really beautiful! The way she describes places and feelings was so unique and gripping. Morgan and Deth in the end really got me. I'm loaning the series for my niece to read now!

Oh man, how awesome! This is incredible to hear--I'm so glad you enjoyed it! The Morgon/Deth friendship lives in my head absolutely rent-free, and the final sequence with the tower, oh man. I can see it in my mind's eye just thinking about it, and it's been probably five or six years since my last reread. Patricia McKillip is my favorite author of all time; while her later books to me don't have quite the same dense lyricism that Riddle-Master does (probably an improvement on readability, frankly--I confess the scene with the dead children under the mountain confuses me every time), there's an effervescent beauty in everything she does that I would kill to emulate.

Gosh, it's most definitely time for a reread. Thank you so much for letting me know, and again, I'm utterly delighted you had a good time! :D

Excuse me, do you have a source that season 2 was actually the second half of season 1 as far as Netflix season ordering goes? I wanted to read about it, but I didn't find anything.

Oh, gosh, it was a tweet, I think from the official voltron twitter. I am trying to find it, but it’s burried under all the season 2 promo posts.

Also regarding the other statement, I don’t remember if it was 6 seasons, but I do remember reading an article back in the summer about how netflix did order MULTIPLE seasons of Voltron. The show is guaranteed to be long and not at risk of cancellation any time soon.

I’ll do my best to find both.

Lance’s heritage was never really mentioned in this season. So to me, that says that this is still season 1, not season 2.

Were you able to hear what Ruby and Sapphire were saying at breakfast after Ruby breaks the table? I heard Ruby say "You don't know me!" But I couldn't make out anything else after Sapphire says "How could I possibly not know you, we ALWAYS fuse," and Greg talks over them.

the iTunes version is a little clearer although I still can’t make most of it out. Here’s what I got:

Ruby: You don’t know me!Sapphire: How could I possibly not know you, we ALWAYS fuse. We fuse, what are you even going on about (something something, I think she says “fusion”) so don’t act so ridiculous. Yes, yes.Ruby: Look at you! *dry sarcastic laugh* You don’t even know yourself! Ha! I’m ridiculous!? You --

Most of their dialogue overlaps so these lines aren’t one after another. Sapphire’s “Yes, yes” seems to have been in response to Ruby’s “I’m ridiculous?” 

Some of this isn’t exact, I can’t hear a lot of what Sapphire is saying but I am positive she’s saying something along the lines of “going on about” and that she says “ridiculous” (she kind of has to be saying that, since Ruby clearly says “I’m ridiculous!?” in response to something she said)

Also, shout out to Greg for about blasting out my eardrum while I was trying to listen to this.

I really liked Inside Out too! I wanna talk about that minor quibble, though. I was disappointed that the scenes that showed other characters feelings being just generic emotions with exact copies of the character's hair turned out to be actual parts of the movie and not just promotional. Like, I get it was supposed to be funny, but it just seemed bland and unoriginal to me. I wish that they hadn't played into stereotypes so heavily in the scene, and had made more unique designs for the emotions

The only good thing about it I guess is that since Riley’s emotions were all different genders and had unique designs where the others didn’t, we can conclude that Riley is nonbinary.

Other than that bit I really loved the movie! It was creative, suspenseful, charming, and had endearing characters. The ending was sooo good!

I really really liked the movie a lot myself. I didn’t have too much of a problem with them showing the other people’s emotions and those basically being copies more or less. I mean, I understand your problem with it not seeming very creative, but those scenes were mostly for comic relief and pretty brief. The focus of the movie is Riley and her head, we spend so much time there and there’s so many great details in the worldbuilding there, that I don’t see how there would be much purpose for the crew to spend a lot of time coming up with unique designs for other characters for extremely brief scenes (character and scenic design is a lot of work!). I guess I’m looking at it from an out-of-universe standpoint than an in-universe standpoint, you have to focus your attention on the important priorities. But yeah, it would have been nice to have some more variety there.

I’m totally there with you on the nonbinary reading of Riley (and I was actually very very amused by the “imaginary boyfriend” bit because “I’m from Canada” = YOU’RE PROBABLY GAY, RILEY. Also the payoff to that was GREAT and I loved it).
