Started rewatching the Fear Street trilogy, started with Part One last night an watching part Two tonight
💖💖💖💖
Love these movies so much BUT my one complaint is that I feel like having Kate, Simon, and Josh put Sam’s blood on them was just a convenient way to kill off Kate and Simon…. Like it doesn’t actually help the plan much and just puts them in danger. I get that it’s to help stall but….Why not put Sam’s blood somewhere else, like a different building and in the frozen section to stall them a little lol

Top 12 LGBT Horror Characters
11. Deena Johnson (played by Kiana Madeira) from the Fear Street trilogy
TW: death, murder
*spoilers for Fear Street: 1994, Fear Street: 1978, and Fear Street: 1666*
Based on R.L. Stine’s iconic teen horror novel series, Netflix’s Fear Street Trilogy tells the story of a rivalry between two neighboring towns that spans across centuries: the upper-class Sunnyvale and the impoverished Shadyside. Since the 1600s, Sunnydale has thrived with wealth, a safe community, and an impeccable reputation. Meanwhile, if you live in Shadyside, you are at risk of residing in squalor, having your property vandalized, or being murdered by someone close to you.
School band drummer Deena can vouch for this. Living with an alcoholic absentee father, having to be responsible for herself and her brother Josh, and having to grow up in “the murder capital of the United States” has led her to adopt a jaded exterior to mask her emotional vulnerabilities.
Now, let me be honest here. Despite her having an interesting character background, I did not like Deena for the first half of Fear Street: 1994, but it is not for the reasons above.
The reason I could barely tolerate Deena is that she acted so entitled to her ex-girlfriend, Samantha. For some reason, she is heartbroken over Sam dating someone else, even though DEENA broke up with her. In addition, the reason she broke up Sam is because Sam and her family moved from Shadyside to Sunnyvale.
Deena! Sam’s parents made the decision to move, not Sam. As a child, she had no say in the matter!
Finally, to quote Sam in the movie, “I am half an hour away”. To which Deena replies, “It might as well be the goddamn moon”. Ugh…
At that moment, I was thinking Sam deserved a better girlfriend than Deena.
Now, I can discuss why I began to like Deena more throughout the trilogy.
Despite her prickly behavior, she was determined, resourceful, and loyal to her loved ones. In order to save her brother, her girlfriend, and her town from destruction, Deena led the mission to defeat the undead corpses of past Shadyside killers and uncover the secrets behind the infamous curse.
The moments with her brother Josh were especially endearing and heartwarming without being too saccharine. These new dangerous circumstances forced them to rely on each other more than ever on a goal greater than themselves.
Deena even became a better girlfriend to Sam as she risks danger at every turn and goes through the ends of the Earth to save her life.
With the help of the spirit of Sarah Fier, Deena breaks the centuries-long curse on Shadyside and shares Fier’s story to clear her name.
Over the course of a few days, Deena evolved from high school band geek to an unexpected hometown heroine.

‼️ HUGE SPOILERS FOR FEAR STREET 1994 IN THE SECOND CLIP ‼️
I had recently started rewatching Fear Street with my cousin when I had realized how similar these two scenes were, not to mention Heather and Edd practically say the same line. Crazy how I could connect a silly slapstick cartoon to a horror movie.
Recommend watching Fear Street if you are a fan of horror, it’s like one of my favorite horror trilogies.

monthly media recap: august 2024
read:
Cabal by Clive Barker - oh you know, I've yapped about it and Nightbreed a lot here. The intersection of horror and eroticism, the monstrous and the divine, the queer allegory, the monsterfucking. So good.
The Second Continuation of Perceval - I liked it better than The First Continuation which I didn't even finish, but by the end I still decided to put my Arthuriana reading on pause for the time being. These were dragging me into a reading slump which passed as soon as I stopped trying to get through them. Going back to The Second Continuation, I am tragically unable not to picture that little dog that Perceval carried around as a chihuahua
Jelgava 94 by Jānis Joņevs - part coming-of-age, part chronicle of Latvian metalhead culture, extremely funny (even funnier than I remember the movie adaptation to be).
Rīgas raganas (Witches of Riga) by Linda Nemiera - first assumed it's gonna be the kind of ~ironic~ fantasy I've kinda outgrown, then got seriously hooked (the fact that it's set in my city certainly helped), then came the anticlimactic ending. Still, mostly liked it in the end. Also, gotta say it's extremely funny how the author created a magical explanation for the very real recent phenomena of roads caving in and cars falling into the resulting pits. Was reading this like oh right, this happened next to our office
The Amateur Cracksman and The Black Mask by E. W. Hornung - been reading the Raffles & Bunny short stories through Substack and just realized it has already covered the first two collections! This reading method is not for me, but the stories themselves are charming. They're like, what if Holmes and Watson but gentlemen thieves (Hornung was Conan Doyle's brother-in-law, btw) and also partially based on Oscar Wilde and Alfred Douglas? Really a very nice read.
+ currently reading: Weaveworld by Clive Barker
watched:
Nightbreed (1990), the Cabal Cut - not the version I'd, like, recommend to a random person, because it's glued together from the theatrical release and deleted scenes (some of which don't even have sound) and what not, but it really is much closer to the novel than the theatrical cut. See the post linked above for more thoughts on the book and both cuts of the movie
Lisa Frankenstein (2024) - finally watched it, and it was as delightful as I was promised :) I thought I saw enough spoilers for it, but I somehow didn't expect that ending at all, loved it. Loved the relationship between the sisters, too.
Fear Street Part One: 1994 (2021), Fear Street Part Two: 1978 (2021), Fear Street Part Three: 1666 (2021) - me watching part 1-2: eh it's alright, not very original but interesting, and I like the kids. Me watching part 3: oh it's GOOD good! Thank you OPLA cast for luring me in

Working on a danganronpa x fear street au because I'm bored and I got nothing else to do, so here's a short character list for this AU! I'll be starting off with Fear Street Part 1: 1994, Part 2: 1987 & Part 3: 1666 will come at a later point.
I really recommend watching Fear Street, it's a good movie trilogy! With that, onto the list!
DO NOT CONTINUE READING PAST THIS POINT IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN FEAR STREET, THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS!
Heather Watkins – Sayaka Maizono
Reason I chose her is because she's the first girl you meet in game and the first girl who dies. Heather's the same way.
Ryan Torres – Leon Kuwata
I chose Leon because of both he and Ryan have some girl catcher thing going on, not to mention they both become killers. (albeit one was possessed, the other was forced)
Deena Johnson – Shuichi Saihara
In reality because the Fear Street Trilogy also counts as a LGBTQ+ film (Deena & Sam used to date), you could put anyone besides Shuichi as the main character. Reason I chose Shuichi was because Deena associates with the color blue, and she's also pessimistic and depressed at the start of the movie until the end.
Samantha Fraser – Kokichi Oma
Now, Sam and Kokichi are very different characters. One's manipulative and childish while the other doesn't like to cause trouble while being quiet. The only reason I chose Kokichi is due to a couple things, one of them being Sam living in Sunnyvale (which is a rich and safe town, and since Kokichi is the Ultimate Supreme Leader, I just put two and two together.) Second, Saiouma is a popular ship and since Shuichi is Deena in this AU, I might as well make Sam Kokichi. (But other options such as Kiibo or Kaito or any other male character Shuichi's shipped with could work too.)
Josh Johnson – Yasuhiro Hagakure
In the movie, Josh is the nerd who's all about conspiracy theories, and he's smart because he's able to piece together what's been going on with Shadyside and the killers it pumps out every decade or so. Yasuhiro's all about that conspiracy stuff, and he's somewhat of a nerd (alongside Hifumi), hence why he's Josh. His best friends that he talks to like Josh does in the movie with AOL would probably be Hifumi and Gundham.
Kate Schmidt – Miu Iruma
Kate's not an inventor, I'll give you that. But in the movie she's very smart and has a good sense of what she's doing (even after she dies). She's also a very attractive girl, so who else could fit her other than the genius with good looks and golden brains herself?
Simon Kalivoda – Kazuichi Soda
In my personal opinion, I could've chosen Mikan for Simon due to both of them being cowards and having knowledge of over the counter medicine and drugs, but it just didn't feel right given Mikan also cries a lot... which is something Simon doesn't do. So I chose Kazuichi because I thought it would be more fitting in terms of personality. (Also, both of them are simps in a way)
Sheriff Nick Goode – Nagito Komaeda
While it doesn't make much sense for Nagito to be Nick, I chose Nagito because both of them wield guns (/hj) and because both of them live a lavish lifestyle where nothing bad ever happens to them. (With some exception as an Ultimate Lucky Student aka Nagito) Then again, he could also work for Sarah Fier given both of them had one hand cut off from their body...
C. Berman – Hajime Hinata
It's implied in 1978 that C. Berman and Nick Goode had a thing for each other when they were kids, and C. Berman was very pessimistic (almost like Deena) during most of the movie. It fits very well for Hajime just like Shuichi does with Deena.
Ruby Lane – Sonia Nevermind
Halfway in the movie, Simon ends up entranced by Ruby Lane's singing which is how he ends up getting tackled and almost killed by her. I don't like to doubt that Sonia would do something similar to draw out Kazuichi if she ever decided to kill someone.
Sarah Fier – Kiyotaka Ishimaru
While it may not make sense for Ishimaru to be the witch, It's the only character I could think that would work for this AU since, and there are spoilers so don't read if you haven't seen Fear Street, Sarah Fier in the movie is a lesbian who was hung for witchcraft and had rejected a dude who loved her when she loved another woman.
#sxilor rambles#sxilor speaks#danganronpa#danganronpa au#fear street#fear street trilogy#fear street au#I really recommend watching Fear Street if you enjoy murder horror and supernatural spooks#Things in this AU might change and swap around but that's because this is my first time actually working on a big AU idea like this#I am always open to recommendations and ideas though#just try to avoid spoilers if you can because I know not many people probably know this trilogy series#so it'd be best for those people to watch the movies and understand them

Queer Horror! The Fear Street Trilogy
The Fear Street trilogy was released on Netflix in the summer of 2023 and was directed by Leigh Janiak. The series followed the history of the city of Shadyside and all of the misfortune caused by the curse of Sarah Fier.
Part One - 1994 followed a group of teens who are living with the effects of the curse, one of whom happens upon the buried body of the old witch Sarah Fier, one of whom becomes a target for the curse. They have to join together to defeat the killers coming to find them.
Part Two - 1978 sees the surviving characters track down a previous survivor of the curse, who recounts her time at Camp Nightwing where a possessed counselor goes on a murderous rampage.
Part Three - 1666 sees the main character get a glimpse of the past when she sees Sarah Fier's story with her own eyes, and what really happened to cause the Shadyside curse.
I may get into spoilers here so I am going to mark it as such! I will try to spoil as little as possible as this series is wonderful and should be experienced.
The cool thing about this series, is that the main character in the 1994 story, Deena Johnson (played by Kiana Madeira) is gay. It's revealed in a cool way that made me very excited to follow her and her ex/girlfriend, Sam (played by Olivia Scott Welch,) through the movie.
And it was really cool to see Deena fight so hard to make sure that Sam stayed safe, even when it came to some really rough parts.
Now the second movie followed a story where Deena was still trying to both protect and save Sam, which was very difficult in more ways than one. But since this post is talking about the queer aspects of this franchise, the most notable part for me is that the character Alice is played by non-binary actor Ryan Simpkins (pronouns they/she according to their Instagram.) Ryan Simpkins is one of my favorite parts of the series. I just love the way they play Alice.
The third movie is so creative in the way it tells Sarah Fier's story, because it reuses some of the cast members from the first two movies (no Ryan Simpkins though, which made me so sad,) having them portray characters from the past. Kiana and Olivia portray Sarah Fier and her lover Hannah Miller as Deena sees the story of Sarah Fier, through her eyes. The story gives Sarah Fier her own tragic love story, where Hannah and Sarah's love is accused of being the cause of the town's misfortune, and both girls are accused of being witches. The sacrifice Sarah makes in the end after learning the truth of who the real evil is, is heartbreaking and sweet at the same time, as she is able to save Hannah from the town's wrath.
Like I said, I am sharing as little as possible incase the people reading this haven't seen the film yet. (GO WATCH THE MOVIES!)

Fear Street Part One: 1994 (2021)
After a series of brutal slayings, a teen and her friends take on an evil force that's plagued their notorious town for centuries.
Warning: Review may contain spoilers. Read at your own risk.
JayBell: To close off the spooky season, we end on a modern take on a slasher movie that I've been curious about for a while now.
The best way to describe this movie is if the CW decided to make a slasher movie but it's also rated R. It's a popcorn slasher. It's very dramatic and over the top. But I didn't hate it? It feels like the most juvenile rated R film, but it's also entertaining at the same time. I really like the concept of this connected anthology that jumps through time.
It's insane that one girl barely goes off the side of the road and somehow disturbs some crazy witch's grave. Was she buried only four inches in the dirt? And they go back later and find all this evidence like it's been lying there forever and not ten feet off the road.
I do have to ask why they never consider leaving town. Are they like trapped there? Stop running around town with a bunch of killers and hop on a plane at LAX with a dream and a cardigan?? Hello??
Also, our main character is kind of messed up. She's angry that her girlfriend moved to a rival town, broke up with her, and then got mad at her in a jealous rage that she moved on with a guy. Like grow up. Be mature. At the same time, it's crazy that the ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend is murdered in front of them and they don't really care. Sure he was a douche, but they're back together not even hours later. Screw him I guess?
Anywayssss. It isn't a perfect movie, but I am interested. They leave enough open to encourage you to watch the next movie and I have to admit it's working. I do want to know what happens next (or before?). So I'm sure we will be back to watch the others eventually.
Rating: 5.5/10 cats 🐈
Anzie: Following up Malignant could make anything look good, but his was still pretty iffy. The concept is good but the acting and follow through and dialogue is really cringe. Like these kids need to chillllllll. They’re doing too much. And I get that the town might influence the kids in Shadyside, but what’s the Sunnyvale peeps excuse? And the all the killers come back thing bc of a witch- cool. But uhhh let’s glorify drug dealing for half of the movie and then od the one girl (not to mention drown her too! 😱) and then give her enough epipens to kill a elephant?!?! And the bread slicer??? No. Sorry but no. It’s traumatic being subject to cringey teenager behavior one second and bread slicer deaths the next. I knew when I saw that thing. And I have a question. This stupid cop obviously knows what’s going on bc he slips a note in the door of someone that survived it before- but he could have hellllllppppped them. And then blaming everything on ax boy and bread slicer girl??? This town knows what’s going on- that poor boy was employee of the month FOR EVERY MONTH- how are you spinning this junkie story?!?! And she was the cheerleader?? And the girls still got this with in her. What the fluff man. And it’s bad. But I have to know what happens next. Like whatsssssss this witch’s game mannnn. And who was the copper in the past??? Plus the next one is supposed to have Sadie Sink, but it’s probably like Maya Hawk, where it’s 15 secs of screen time before the witch gets you. Also. That reminds me. So she wants the girl right. Bc she disturbed her grave. Right. But how was the witch just Willy nilly possessing all the other killers at random?? Did I miss that??
Rating: 4/10 Witches 🧙♀️

October horror movie #16:
Fear Street Part One: 1994. I give it 5/5. What can I say? I enjoyed this movie immensely and will definitely be checking out the sequels at some point. It was especially good and refreshing after the last movie I watched. (some spoilers below. Or at least one)
Likes: references to classic horror movies and slasher flicks, paying homage to those movies, surprises at the beginning and end (Scream reference on the nose with Maya Hawke. Drew Barrymore anyone?), the well established characters that we understand and like or dislike quickly, the vibes, the rich and terrifying history of this made up town, how it made me focus and pay attention, combining the slasher genre with a supernatural horror movie, pacing, feeling the emotions of characters, the interesting and different witch story, movie curbing expectations, and that soundtrack full of 90s bangers!
Dislikes: none

im going to sum it up anyway.
fear street trilogy are a series of slasher movies all telling one big story. the order is 1994, 1978, and 1666. each movie follows a different cast, however the third one brings back the main character group half way thru the movie.
the spoiler free basics is there are two towns, sunnyvale and shadyside. in shadyside every certain amount of time someone will go on a killingspree at which the end of they'll die themselves. it's said this is a "witch's curse" the over arching plot is trying to figure out a way to break the curse.
if youre uncomfortable with gore i wouldnt recommend watching it as at some points they did not hesitate going all out
the movies are all on netflix
dont look up the plot of fear street trio because youll get spoilers if youre thinking of watching ask me for a summary
