REVIEWING THE CHARTS: 17/02/2024 (Beyoncé, VULTURES 1)

For a seventh week, Noah Kahan stays strong at #1 with “Stick Season” - but it’s Bey season and Ye season… no, those words don’t rhyme, and welcome back to REVIEWING THE CHARTS!

Rundown

Welp, as always, we start with our notable dropouts, songs exiting the UK Top 75, which is what I cover, after five weeks in the top 75 and a peak in the top 40, and this week, we bid adieu to: “HISS” by Megan Thee Stallion (that was quick), “Gas Me Up (Diligent)” by Skepta, “Feather” by Sabrina Carpenter, “When We Were Young (The Logical Song)” by David Guetta and Kim Petras, “Surround Sound” by JID featuring 21 Savage and Yung Baby Tate, “Northern Attitude” by Noah Kahan, “Runaway” by Ye featuring Pusha T, “Can’t Catch Me Now” by Olivia Rodrigo, “Is it Over Now?” by Taylor Swift, “Black Friday” by Tom Odell, “Agora Hills” by Doja Cat, “My Love Mine All Mine” by Mitski and finally, “Baddadan” by Chase & Status and Bou featuring IRAH, Flowdan, Trigga and Takura. Yeah, bit of a bloodbath here.

You know, we actually have barely any returns or gains as a result of the influx of 13 new songs, so we have some vague post-GRAMMYs impact and that’s kind of all, with it mostly being in our returns - “Coal” by Dylan Gossett at #73 (probably not GRAMMYs), “FE!N” by Travis Scott featuring Playboi Carti at #71 and on a much more positive note, Tracy Chapman’s classic original version of “Fast Car” all the way at #38. It first charted at 1988 and peaked at #5 (when Glenn Madeiros’ schmaltzy “Nothing’s Gonna Change My Love For You” was #1) and then returned in 2011 and peaked at #4, when… “Party Rock Anthem” was #1. This won’t last or peak nearly as high, but it improves the net quality of the chart for the time it’s here. As for the gains, “Anti-Hero” by Taylor Swift at #57 and “Home” by Good Neighbours at #34. Yup.

As for our top five, we see Mr. YG Marley creep in maybe in part to his grandfather’s documentary as “Praise Jah in the Moonlight” is at #5. Then “Lose Control” by Mr. Teddy Swims is at #4, “Beautiful Things” by Mr. Benson Boone is at #3, “Murder on the Dancefloor”by Sophie Ellis-Bextor breaks my gag at #2 and finally, Noah is building his seven-week ark at #1. Now our real stories, of course, are in our influx of new entries, many of which are pretty damn high and have exceedingly more to talk about than I wish they did, so I suppose let’s start rounding those off.

New Entries

#64 - “ONE CALL” - Rich Amiri

Now, I am not familiar with Rich Amiri, which is a pretty generic rap name all things considered so for all I know, I’ve listened to his mixtape, but I am familiar with some of his producers. Rio Leyva has credits across a lot of recent pop-rap mainstays like Lil Tecca, The Kid LAROI and even Yeat, and he tends to produce in a style many would say is rage-adjacent… so it makes sense that this is a rage song, with some genuinely wiry, menacing leads in the synths and a dirty, factorial trap skitter. The song’s barely two minutes, so it doesn’t really give Mr. Amiri much time to even finish his one verse, which is full of personality-void Auto-Tune and mindless repetition, but he isn’t exactly derivative of any specific person, it just sounds like he hasn’t figured out his exact voice yet, which is expected with up-and-coming rappers. The content obviously isn’t worth speaking of - it’s just flexing and violence and sex all delivered pretty plainly - but he’s not the worst at it? I don’t know, this is great production but I feel like there are rappers who could make this pop out a bit more. Maybe 454, SoFaygo, someone with a high-pitched squawk to make this feel dynamic? If you still want to go for relentless cool, get Thouxanbanfauni on the remix and this could be a slam dunk.

#62 - “Made for Me” - Muni Long

Produced by Jermaine Dupri, Bryan-Michael Cox and JordanXL

“Hrs and Hrs” is not a song I remember much at all let alone fondly, but the voice behind Muni Long is Priscilla Renea, a very prolific songwriter, so I imagine that with Jermaine Dupri on the boards, there could be some R&B wizardry to make her chances at a second hit much more solidified. As for if I like it or not, well, I can see it being a hit considering the 2000s throwback sound with the classy (yet almost basic-sounding) pianos, even down to the groove and the incessant sound effect that’s a bit distractingly loud in the mix, but by the end of the song, you almost forget it’s there and think it would sound weird if it wasn’t. Even if I generally like this song, I don’t really think it fits the song too much, which is about finding your soulmate and… NOT losing them. There should be some grandiosity to this, especially with that powerful voice and chorus, but it feels a bit lost in its own attempt to be “cool”, which… I don’t know, will it be a theme this episode? Probably not, but the first two songs definitely share the element of just not going far enough with good ideas. This is still a solid tune, though.

#60 - “Dance Alone” - Sia and Kylie Minogue

Sia. Kylie. Two pop stars of very, very different prepositions but ultimately in the same niche. I have no hopes for anything Sia does, pretty much, never liked her, but what else would I have to say at this point? Her songs produce so little analysis from me because a lot of the time, it’s just kind of immediately obvious what will happen and what I’ll think. There are painfully basic vocal melodies, very typical disco-house beats, and Sia tries to actually play down the hamming but lets her natural characteristic of her voice end up preventing her from doing so because, well, that’s just how her voice sounds. A “subtle” Sia is just an awkward fit, and she may be trying that on purpose so she doesn’t put off pop listeners, but it just results in her being completely outclassed by Kylie, who eats this up as expected. That little “woo!” in the pre-chorus is to live for, as is the “(dance)” ad-lib in the final chorus, but by the time we’re in the “bridge” (see: the post-chorus again, same phrase repeated ad nauseum), Sia’s clipping in the mix again and nothing sounds like it cares about me caring, so I’m not caring. It’ll go hard in the Mumsnet forum voice chats. Do they have those? They should have those.

#55 - “Birds in the Sky” - NewEra

Okay, I’ll bite: Who are NewEra? Well, according to Genius, they’re an EDM production duo from Dublin and this track from last year is their only song to appear on streaming, yet it’s released on Warner interesting. Either way, it’s clearly blown the Irish duo up a bit, so there must be some merit and well, the sample - wherever it’s from, I genuinely can’t find it - is about as weirdly mixed as they always are on these piano-led EDM cuts, but it doesn’t stick out too much amidst the more typical trance grooves and very basic, almost preset-sounding drums that lead into a constant anticlimax, leading the pianos and barely impactful drop sound like they’re teasing you into a false sense of confidence that the song is at all moving. It damn well works though, it’s pretty hypnotising, so when I was lulled into the drumless glitching section where the cheap pianos actually build up to a pretty good pounding drop, I was thoroughly immersed. These guys have done something right.

#50 - “Make You Mine” - Madison Beer

Madison Beer is one of those ostensible “pop stars” that don’t exactly make innovative, experimental or often even interesting music but still exist only on the peripheries of the mainstream, many of which eventually get some kind of breakout chart hit, and this might just be Ms. Beer’s… well, if this is supposed to convince me on the personality and character of Madison Beer, I am not impressed at all, she doesn’t sound interested in developing that. If it’s supposed to convince me on her production ability… yeah, I’m hopping on this train. This is incredible. My comment on her vocal performance is not a detracting remark of the song, her emotionally confused, at times static and always intimate vocal take adds a lot of depth to the intense, but more accurately hallucinatory sensuality of the song. There’s a lot of staccato repetition, sure, I mean, it’s deep house, but it’s all a luring act as you can “slip inside her mind” (sure), against the warped synth basses, echoed and fuzzy vocal production, mesmerising synths that are incredibly well panned and mixed - the sound design is immaculate, and that’s not even mentioning the incessant groove or one of the catchiest nonsense hooks in pop of recent years. The drop barely registers as such, it feels like a natural climax that the song just slides into, despite all the little intricacies in both the build-up and the catharsis that transform the song into a fizzling journey of sexy club-pop that goes a lot harder in the details that I expected it to. I mean, the overdubbing of synth leads and curious glitches in the outro - nothing’s going to go exactly “wrong” in this hook-up, but it’s not where either expected to be… and for that night, it’s life-changing. I didn’t think I’d like this as much as I do but oh, my God, please make this a hit. ASAP.

#47 - “Heaven or Hell” - K-Trap

Well, K-Trap’s back, this time without Headie One, and I guess this is his song for the ladies. There’s a swash of R&B keys, a Central Cee acoustic guitar - or an *NSYNC acoustic guitar relistening - and an actually interesting choice in making the drill hi-hats and really the rhythm section in general a bit papery, with a bass that feels mixed a bit too low yet still being relatively busy. K-Trap is just rambling misogynistically over all of this, and not just in a typical rap way, it’s a bit distracting and groan-worthy, but his comical delivery of some of this as well as the female spoken interludes kind of explain away his hypocrisy a bit. Not too effectively, of course, but it’s worth pointing out that it’s somewhat of a two-way street. I still find the soft percussion resemblant of sample drill pretty refreshing and enjoyable, I just wish maybe there was a more melodic presence of a rapper on it. Still okay.

#44 - “16 CARRIAGES” - Beyoncé

So, Queen Bey released two country-influenced songs on the Sunday - one’s in the top 10, the ballad is at #44. I will wait until this act two of RENAISSANCE is actually out before making any statements on Beyoncé doing country outside of that I hope she ends up shouting out or giving chances and/or feature spots to other Black women in that field, as a way of propping up that community within an industry that pretty flagrantly prevents that instead of just doing a genre switcheroo because she can and convincing nobody about anything systemic in the meanwhile. Hell, that’s more for me, personally, because I’d like to know a lot more Black country artists, and given that I’m obliged to listen to this album, I mean if you care about the genre, Bey, it’d be cool to point me in some directions. Not that it’s her job, but it would be a worthwhile light to shine especially since Beyoncé is both a hitmaker and a bit of a tastemaker.

As for the first of her country efforts though, this is a pretty heartfelt southern soul track that could almost act as a campfire song if not for Bey just not being in that zone as a singer, but it definitely has the clapped rhythm of one and some compelling lyrics regarding her time touring with Destiny’s Child. Now it’s less smoky than I’d really want a song like this to be, it doesn’t sizzle as much as it stagnates, particularly with that crash into the guitars and church organs that doesn’t really surge the way I so badly wanted it to. I do find the vocals excellent, the narrative interesting and still surprisingly relevant to her as a modern touring act as well, and the rapping is surprisingly well implemented, it feels just like she’s shooting the shit in the middle of her country storytelling song. In that regard, I’d like there to be a lot less grandiosity to the presentation, maybe do without the soaring overdubs or horns, make this more of an explicitly acoustic effort. I know it wouldn’t fit Beyoncé and all her harmonies and belting, as her presence isn’t always fit for minimalism, but she could pull it off. The problem with that would be is it doesn’t emulate the theatrics of a stage performance and the abrupt shock of showbiz being put onto her at an early age, so there’s some great mirroring there that almost makes up for me not being greatly into the actual sound of these tracks. Regardless, it does have me excited for the more solemn moments on this album, but we won’t be covering that until the end.

#37 - “Abracadabra” - Wes Nelson featuring Craig David

CRAIG DAVID?! And it doesn’t appear to be a sample? The crowd says “bo selecta” indeed. Whatever about this Wes Nelson guy, he sounds like an AI amalgamated what every R&B singer has sounded like since the planes hit, or realistically, just Jeremih, but the beat is a rough-around-the-edges 2-step jam with harder bass than you’d think and some blocky space synths. It’s all very rote but it’s also Craig David and man, you can put however many filters on his voice, it’ll still sound like Craig David, and I can’t even seriously critique him anymore. I’m sure he’s a complex, nuanced human being with flaws and feelings but to me, he’s just an unexplainable deity figure. Also, there is a moment during the drop of this song - and the outro - where the beat cuts out for Craig David to say “Bruh”, and I just needed to point this out.

#31 - “Forever” - Noah Kahan

The Vermont singer-songwriter has released what appears to be the final deluxe edition of his #1 album Stick Season, subtitled “Forever”, henc ethe name of its sole original song. I’m honestly surprised this didn’t debut higher, but there is a lot debuting above it, and Kahan tends to have sleepers. Speaking of sleepers, I’m not really feeling this one as much. It’s got the wistful acoustics but it’s a lot slower in its pace, especially for its first half, which makes Kahan’s frail, nasal vocal that I’m still not that big on not nearly as ignorable, especially as it punctuates the lyrics so exactly and ends up making the harmonies, especially in the pre-chorus, somewhat haunting, which given the deterministic lovelorn lyricism, doesn’t seem to be the intention? It eventually picks up a nice little bluegrass-esque groove but nothing too far from an average Lumineers track in terms of just lacking bite and punch, whilst forcing Kahan to strain more than he needs to, to sell pretty resonant content.

#18 - “BACK TO ME” - Adolf Hitler and Ty Dolla $ign

88-Keys, huh? Now, I’m not saying that Kanye West is Hitler, I’m just doing him a favour and comparing him to his idol. There are a lot of things that he loves about him. In a perfect world, I have the choice to completely ignore this album, especially since two of the debuts from VULTURES 1 (debuted at #2 on this week’s album charts) are considered widely to be the best tracks by both me and a lot of the fans, though I am a sucker for the darker, problematic last quarter that people don’t tend to like that much. I don’t want to admit that, of course, and I’m kind of torn between not feeding into exhaustive discourse by not mentioning any controversy and then feeling bad for not doing so because I’d be supporting his cult of fans who supposedly only care about the music, regardless of how his music is constantly reminding you of his controversies. It’s also not easy when you have two pretty damn good tracks from an album that largely consists of the man embarrassing himself and, well, Ty Dolla $ign, who sounds wonderfully smooth on this track and many others. He stands out particularly well over the punchy breakbeats and bass that entrench the mix. Hitler does embarrass himself as usual, but the minute-and-a-half Auto-Tuned quoting of an old comedy movie that he probably doesn’t even remember the rest of is an almost poetic reflection of where he is as an artist and a man. Oh, and Freddie Gibbs shows up to steal the show so effortlessly with his tightest, rapid flows I think I’ve heard from him in years, some excellent, topical wordplay that feels like it’s what the album wanted to be: playful and effervescent in its hedonism. He steals the show so much in fact that the song just ends after he does, he takes complete ownership. Nice one, Gibbs, do it on someone else’s album, for the love of God.

#17 - “BURN” - Adolf Hitler and Ty Dolla $ign

This is just what this guy’s album used to sound like. We have a mid-album reminder that he can still do it, but only for two minutes, and half of that is Ty the Tasmanian Tiger over here carrying the album with his sloppily-mixed but still incredibly passionate and incessantly catchy chorus - I’ve had it in my head for the whole damn week, pretty much - over a very conventional, punchy chipmunk soul beat that lasts less than two minutes and it just ends up on a bittersweet note. The Hitler verse is his most coherent during the whole album, it’s pretty fun, it’s pretty traditional, not worth the attention paid. And neither is…

#12 - “CARNIVAL” - Adolf Hitler and Ty Dolla $ign

Now, thankfully, there really is nothing of value to cover here regardless of how and where you slice it. The song is like 60% Rich the Kid, which should show you how inspired the former GOAT has been lately. Hitler spends most of his verse just being cheaply transgressive for attention, pretty much explaining why I’m not a fan of prominent critics covering this album, dignifying it as more than an ego trip surrounded by yes-men. That’s not to say transgression can’t be art, there’s a lot of discussion to be had about the value of transgressions against the audience. And Hell, maybe a rage song about riding dick featuring Rich the Kid and Playboi Carti warrants that level of analysis, but that’s exactly what Hitler wants me to do here, and I’m not taking instructions from Hitler! I’m not following orders!

#9 - “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” - Beyoncé

Alright, this is just fun. I’m sure someone more equipped than me to talk about country than me will have a lot to say about this song, but I just got a kick out of Bey’s sultry voice, as always perfectly layered with energetic ad-libs and riffing, over that acoustic rolick and clearly programmed thumping production and generic country ambiance. You can tell that this isn’t produced by Nashville staples as much as it’s a semi-outsider attempt at fusing country with Beyoncé’s more natural pop and R&B territory, but it doesn’t detract from it being a sick groove about just having a lot of fun on the dancefloor, boogieing with somebody who makes you forget about everything that’s going wrong. That whistling post-chorus with all the traditional fiddle - if I’m getting that correct - in the background is such a cool little moment, especially with the panning that replicates the live hoedown feel. It absolutely feels much more like a costume party than “16 CARRIAGES”, but to be honest, I might prefer this one just because of how easily Bey dresses up in this particular set of clothes. That’s not derogatory either, she literally lists off “hoops, spurs, boots” in that gorgeous outro. I’m actually glad that such a large, potentially problematic but still full of music to discuss ends on such a delightful, carefree note. Love it.

Conclusion

It’s not getting the best, though, Best of the Week is going to… surprisingly enough, Madison Beer for “Make You Mine”, but Bey obviously grabs the Honourable Mention with “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM”. As for the worst, I mean… there is a song with Rich the Kid on this week. “CARNIVAL” is a shoe-in, but given this was actually a pretty great week in terms of overall quality, it’s difficult. I think I want to give it to K-Trap for “Heaven and Hell” but that’s really because it appears as the lazier, less interesting of the songs I wasn’t a fan of. On another day, it probably would have been Sia, but K-Trap doesn’t have a Kylie Minogue feature. Anyway, with all of that chaos out of the way, thank you for reading, rest in peace to country legend Toby Keith, and I’ll see you next week!

A ma tơ nguyên gốc Việt nam nói, Chân Tử Đan sẽ phấn đấu nhiều đến “Thiên Long Bát Bộ: Kiều Phong truyện”: “Anh ấy đã làm việc rất chăm chỉ. Nhìn thấy anh ấy sụt cân nhiều vì bộ phim, trái tim tôi đau nhói. Chân Tử Đan đã làm việc rất chăm chỉ để bộ phim này thành công”. Dân mạng suy luận, Lữ Lương Vỹ tiếp tục đóng vai Mộ Dung Chưng. Listening to the Hero commentary, and thought you might appreciate Rhea calling Kim like a 14 year old whose best friend didn’t call her and she can’t deal with it. (Also the tailor scene was a pretty woman shout out apparently, bless ‘em for constantly comparing their main male lead to a sex worker)

I absolutely LOVE that comment from Rhea! I'm an absolute sucker for teenage girl-pining!Kim and that scene is one of my top understated McWexler moments. Other scenes along those lines that come to mind are most of her scenes in 2x02, especially the re-arranging the seating at the conference table, and her low-key nervous fishing for intel about where he's planning to buy a place (I always felt that was her way of trying to gauge how serious he is about their new relationship - would he move to Santa Fe or plan to be closer to her?). Or the scenes where she's giddily preparing presents for him, like before his reinstatement hearing.

I love them because they subvert the trope of the hyper-competent, flawless, confident, hot woman who's mostly the object of the chase by the loser/underdog guy. Showing that Kim actively chases Jimmy back makes their relationship so equal and, to quote Rhea again, makes it clear Kim doesn't just acquiesces, as it often comes across in pairings of this kind, but wants him as much as he wants her.

Pairing that with the fact that most of the characters in-universe are completely puzzled by the fact that she's with Jimmy makes it even more delicious because these scenes are a great way to show none of these people know the real Kim. That "soft belly" of hers that makes her go all nervous and giddy and insecure, and the way she craves his company because he's her favorite person in the world and her space to be truly herself, is something nobody gets to see but us.

Miraculous Rewrite - This is the end! Part 3 Hostage

We start on black, a high pitched whistling in the air. A flash of light, and we pick back up where we left off. Felix cracks his eyes open, still crumpled where he’d fallen. He reaches backward and feels his head, pulling his hand back and realizing there’s definitely some clotting blood there. It doesn’t seem he remembers what happened last episode for a moment, blinking blearily and staring at the blood now on his hand in confusion before his expression drops and he jolts upright.

“Adrien?!” He looks all around him, but to no avail, he’s alone on the rooftop. Felix climbs to his feet and draws his Kusarigama, ready to go looking on his own, but something else catches his eye, something carved into the rooftop concrete.

‘Bring the traitors or he dies’ and a location beneath.

We see then Felix still trying to get his head back in order, detransformed and with his vest removed to use as a blood stopper, pressed against the back of his head. Felix looks pale. He’s massaging a temple with his other hand while Orikko flutters about nervously. Bridget is sitting near him on one side, Luka on the other, both hovering in their own ways.

“Adrien got kidnapped.” He states simply. “Agh… Monarcha and the Dolphin cornered us and-...” Felix looks away. “They took him. I fucking failed-”

“Fe they practically bashed your skull in.” Bridget insists.

“You’re lucky you’re not dead yourself.” Luka adds on.

Things are… tense… as Felix explains what had just happened and the conclusions that were reached. If they got Adrien, that means they got the black cat. And sure the Old Order doesn’t want to use the Miraculous Wish, but that’s still a VERY powerful Miraculous to now be in their hands.

“They have almost everything that they need for the combination spell. From us they needed the dog, the cat and the tiger.” Sun Min chimes in.

Marinette is currently silent,she looks pale.

“And they want ‘the traitor’s.” Chloe adds on. She thinks for a second then goes over to Amber, taking off Shoor’s bracelet and handing it to her, then taking Pollen’s comb from her hair and putting it in her ponytail. “Okay, so they want, who… me, Sun Min and M. Agreste? Well fine. But they don’t get a shot at the Tiger when they do. They knew better than to ask for the Miraculous they need, but we’re not fucking stupid.”

“Chloe we’re not just gonna sell you guys down the river” Alya chimes in. “We’re heroes. We always find option three. We just need to think.”

“Adrien might just get out on his own.” Nino chimes in “My man wasn’t sneaking out since he started school just for the sake of not being able to get out of anything if he really tried to.”

“We could go heist all over again?” Alix wonders aloud “Make them think we’re playing along with Chloe and Sun Min and M. Agreste as distractions while we find where they’ve got Adrien and grab him before they can spirit them away?”

“We got REALLY close to failing that heist Alix…” Kim points out. “And it’s not just Miraculous we’d be gambling with anymore. We fuck up we’re hosed.”

“The likelihood of the Old Order simply killing Adrien if they find out about our plan would be statistically far higher.” Max adds on

“Oh Marinette-” Rose turns to Marinette. “I’m sure you’ve already thought of something haven’t you?”

Marinette looks up, as if startled to see Rose there and pauses. “Uh….-”

“Rose, give her some space.” Sabrina pulls a hand in to pull Rose back a bit. “I’m sure Marinette’s thinking about a lot of things.”

“Well what about the ram?” Max pipes back up “We still don’t have a wielder for it, and we do have a few options-”

There’s a stomp of a midnight blue shoe hitting the ground, an indent left behind “QUIET!” And all eyes turn to Juleka, still transformed as Oxenfree. But because it’s Juleka she gets nervous pretty quickly “Uhm.. You- you guys are overwhelming her.”

Sure enough the lot of them begin to quiet down, and Marinette is allowed to think.

“Felix, You’re injured, but like it or not we do need M. Agreste in this one way or another. So go home, bring him up to date about all of this, and send him our way. Don’t give him Orikko though. Head right back to the base after you get your wound dressed. You’ll be guarding Mme Agreste. If they try to question Chat before the trade off he’ll try to tell them again about it to talk to Mlle Sancour and that means they’ll be looking for her.”

“Why do you figure that?” Kim asks

“Mme Agreste wasn’t just M. Agreste’s reason to fight.” Alya chimes in “She’s Nathalie’s sister, she’s the reason Mlle Sancour was tangled up in all of this in the first place, so if she’s not dead, and Tsering Wan can’t play off of that rage factor anymore, she’s suddenly a wild card. They might just kill her if they find her.”

“So what, my cousin has been kidnapped and I'm expected to just wait on the sidelines?!” Felix properly climbs to his feet, Bridget close behind with a hand on his shoulder and Luka looking about ready to force him to sit back down.

“You’re expected to follow orders.” Sun Min responds evenly. “I’d say we’re a little past the point of being picky about our roles in plans right now, Felix. I don’t exactly like being bait myself, but you don’t hear me complaining.”

But Marinette’s already moved on. “That’s a good idea by the way Chloe, because they didn’t ask for the Tiger specifically, we can fill their requirements to the letter while withholding what they really want out of us.”

“Now, I do like the idea of a distraction-extraction, but Kim is right that that is WAY more risky than the heist idea ended up being, especially since we’re stuck playing by their rules. But I'm not-” She tightens a fist and slams it into a palm. “We are not gonna let them think they can just push us around like this. Sun Min, get your stuff ready, Chloe make sure you remember how to work Swarm, Amber you’re gonna need to be nearby just in case that doesn’t work and you two need to switch back Miraculous, but in the meantime make sure you’ve got Cacophony down. Felix. Go.” Felix grits his teeth, but transforms and heads off.

“The rest of us, get ready.”

We cut to the darkness, a shadow silhouette being held against a chair. The clatter of a cane being slammed to the ground wakes Adrien with a startle. “What-?!”

“You know, this could have all ended quietly.” Nathalie huffs from the shadows. “All I ever wanted was to bring back my sister. Us Sancours, we always knew how to handle things. We always knew family came first. But you all, you Agrestes, you just keep muddying the waters until everything goes crazy.” the tip of the cane hooks under Adrien’s chin and his head is forced up.

“Nathalie, can you at least turn on the light? I know we’re in your apartment.”

The light clicks on and Nathalie, still transformed, is glaring down at the smug child. Adrien is very clearly now tied to the chair.

“You know when I got my first kidnapping I always assumed it would be from some overzealous fan, or maybe someone who wanted my father to pay ransom. But my aunt, after forcibly stealing a magical item from right off my person and using me in… I'm guessing a hostage negotiation… is certainly a new one.” His tone is bright but Adrien is very clearly strained and pissed. “So I’ll give some points for creativity. But not as many as you just lost for Stealing. Plagg. From. Me.” the bright tone drops to a low growl. Adrien’s expression turns fierce.

“Means to an end Adrien.”

“What end? Because family doesn’t sure look like your end goal where I’m sitting.”

“You let. My sister. Die.”

“My MOTHER is alive!”

“She WOULD HAVE BEEN if you and your little ‘hero’ pack were willing to help people instead of being so insular you couldn’t understand that someone might want to do good with all of that POWER!”

“We were doing good!” Adrien shouts back. “We are! We’re heroes! What did you think? We never do anything else but fight the Akumas YOU summon!”

“Like you can lecture ME about being cavalier. Might I remind you who's tied up right now, Adrien?”

“I’m just wondering if you think you’re some kind of tragic antihero or if you just think beating up teenagers is fun.”

“Nathalie?” Nathalie jolts in place and reluctantly pulls away. Hoàng Tuyến appears in the door and knocks once on the frame. “Look, I know you and Master Wan have a lot of personal insight into the idea of pissing yourselves off, but can you pull away from your blood feud with the blonde boy for a second? We’ve got stuff to look over before this little ‘deal’ starts up.” Nathalie glares at Adrien one final time but spins on her heel and strides through the door. Hoàng Tuyến raises a brow at Adrien and shakes her head. “I swear it’s all the blonde french kids, next thing you know Manabe’s gonna have beef with the bee girl.”

She closes the door on him. We follow both women as they approach another room in the apartment, this one has Wu Lian sitting on the bed, she’s wearing a very loose fitting outfit and one can see the bandages beneath to show she’s still injured.

Tsering Wan is at her side, turning the ring over in his hands.

“Master Wan.”

“Miss Sancour.”

Wu Lian pulls out the dog’s choker from beneath the covers and with a small tug Fidde is summoned forth.

“Fidde, virtue of loyalty.”

“I prefer the term Kwami actually.”

“Hm. You and the virtue-”

“Kwami.”

“-of destruction have been companions for much of this little ‘team Miraculous’ setup have you not?”

“....Indeed we were together for a time, and when our wielders were two we lived under the same roof.”

“So tell me, why does Plagg hide himself from us?” Fidde glances over at the ring, watches Tsering Wan demonstrate by slipping it on, and sure enough, no Plagg.

“Revenge and Destruction is a problematic combination. Perhaps Plagg and Misso don’t get along. He may find it safer to remain in the ring.”

“That is not his choice to make.” Hoàng Tuyến responds “The virtues, the Kwamis, they make the choice to put control in mortal hands when they choose to become corporeal. So why is Plagg, one of the first Kwami to come to the physical world, allowed to decide whether he wants to obey those rules or not?”

Fidde huffs and places a paw to his forehead. “Plagg is also one of the most powerful of us all. And in order to prevent disastrous consequences he’s taking matters into his own hands. A fusion between revenge and destruction would be terrible in might and what I can only assume is an uncontrollable burst.”

The other collected members of the old Order all keep an eye on Fidde whom groans. “I cannot tell you all how to do what you believe is your jobs, but I can point out that Plagg isn’t so easily swayed when he doesn’t feel as though he’s in a safe place.”

Manabe thinks for a second and approaches Tsering Wan, “Master, may I?” Tsering Wan looks up at him and raises a brow, before nonetheless placing the ring into Manabe’s hand.

“Plagg, reveal yourself.” He states in a firm tone as he slips it on. The black light of the power flashes, and Plagg phases into reality. He glares up at Manabe.

“Seems like freedom is a more compatible Miraculous, hm?”

Plagg says nothing, sinking down onto the bed and folding his arms, glaring up at Manabe.

“You still must do what a wielder says, right?”

He doesn’t speak but he nods.

“So why don’t you want to appear while in Master Wan’s grip?”

“Have you met him?” Plagg finally speaks. “He’s insane.” he looks Manabe up and down “I mean you’re no prize either, but you’re not at THAT level yet.”

Plagg of course, isn’t exactly a hit at the Grown-up table.

“But let's get down to business, Dolphin. I know why you all took me and it does not have ‘Miraculous Wish’ stamped on it.” Plagg hovers just long enough to stretch and then rests back down. “You’re going to do the unthinkable. What the Order before the war would have called the greatest breach of their virtues.”

“And I just think I should warn you; it’s not gonna do anything. Even if you get the Tiger, you recite the spell and you have all of your targets in a nice little place, you’re gonna fail.”

We now listen to Plagg’s voice dubbed over a scene change, as the team continues to prepare themselves. Tikki is perched on Marinette’s shoulder, staring sadly into the distance.

“Have you ever wondered why Total Destruction doesn’t have the Kwami of Creation in it? Because it’s a force that sends everything out of balance.” Tikki sighs, nuzzling into Marinette’s pigtail.

We cut then to Felix making his way back home. “You try to do that much with our magic then the opposite is gonna spring back. It always does. There’s a reason why even the Order before the War let the combinations fade from memory, why they tried to expunge them from the records.”

We cut back to Plagg finally, but he’s floating alone in the shadows, green eyes the only light. “You never know what the universe will do to put things back in order. You all really have lost the way if you’ve forgotten something so cardinal to the Miraculous.”

“And you have no idea what you’ll be getting yourselves into if you go through with this-”

Plagg is cut off with Felix bursting through the balcony doors. “Uncle Gabriel!” Gabriel, who, as usual at this point, was sitting at the dinner table, surrounded by papers, jolts to his feet and rushes for Felix.

“Felix?! What’s going on, what's happened?” Felix huffs for breath, and when he reaches back for his head he realizes he’s bleeding again.

“Adrien got kidnapped, the Old Order are demanding ‘the traitors’ as a trade off. I had to bring you up to speed first.”

Gabriel blinks, shock his only expression, before he nods. “Right. Where are they meeting?”

“The others have a plan I just have to take you t-” Felix tries to get up again but this time he sways dangerously on his feet. Gripping his head. “Woah-... Okay so I MIGHT have a concussion….”

“Michael!”

“What?”

“Your son has a concussion from hero business!”

“What?!”

“Tell me the location, Felix. You’re not leaving this house.”

“...You play dirty, Uncle.”

“Of course I do, I'm a supervillain.” Gabriel smirks, Felix glares, but he detransforms.

“Allow me the rooster?”

“Hell no, not after that. Convince the others to give you the ram.”

The two glare at each other for a moment before Felix is dragged off by Michael. Gabriel sighs and puts on a jacket. “Very well.”

But just as he opens the door to storm out the door closing transitions to the opening of a train car door. Oh shit we haven’t seen these guys all episode have we?

Kagami and Kenji are the first ones out of course, Kagami still looks tense and a little pale, but Kenji is laughing and stretching. “Let’s hope things didn’t go QUITE so crazy in the time we’ve been away.”

Kagami’s phone chimes. “Oh, it seems I have a signal again.” she checks her phone and-

“Language!” Kenji chirps, but before he can lean in to ask what’s got Kagami swearing, another dark head of hair leans in, and it’s-

“What did everything go to shit that quickly?” Yun Eun-Ji wonders aloud as she leans in a little further. “Who’s ‘the hound’ again?”

“That’s Little Adrien’s cousin, right?” A-Fei chimes in, leaning in on the other side. “Is he single?”

Yun Eun-Ji gasps in mock affront and smacks her shoulder “How dare you.”

“No he’s dating someone.” Kagami answers simply. “We should get over there, Yun Eun-Ji, granted you’ve left your post in Shanghai I’m sure that means you do not mind standing against your former masters.”

“Not an issue, Little Kagami.”

“Then shall we? Kenji you wouldn’t mind-”

“Yeah yeah ‘Civillains go home’ you guys are gonna do something very stupid eventually, and Kenji will need to be the hero and where’ll Kenji be? Practicing with his kendo sword and being of no use.”

Kenji rolls his eyes and takes Kagami’s bag from her. “What should I tell mom that you have a stomach bug or something?”

“I don’t care, I just need a few hours.”

“Ok! I’ll tell her you snuck out to go on a date with Adrien and Marinette.”

“FINE I CARE A LITTLE!”

“Are those two gonna go on like this for the next hour?” A-Fei stage whispers to Yun Eun-Ji “Should we just leave?”

“Come along Kagami.” Yun Eun-Ji chimes instead, placing a hand on her shoulder and turning her from her brother. “Let’s go find somewhere private to handle things.”

Kagami pauses for a second before looking over at A-Fei. “Are you sure you’re comfortable with this? You haven’t been in-”

“I’ll be fine.” A-Fei responds. She pulls her hands up into a fighting position and you can see she’s wearing a new fuzzy wristband on her left wrist, looking like one of those decorative sweatbands. A plastic rhinestone affixed to the center shimmers in the light.

A-Fei winks at the camera. But just as the three of them begin to look around for a safe place to transform we cut away.

Specifically we cut to the rooftop Gabriel was sent toward. The very one between their apartment and the base. The heroes present all nervously waiting, until Gabriel himself is spotted approaching.

“Ah! There he is! Where’s Felix?” Alix wonders aloud, but Kim is already descending to grab the designer and bring him up to the rooftop.

“Am I to assume that I'll never be properly aware of your ‘base’s location?”

“Yeah you don’t get to figure that out former supervillain.” Chloe huffs, much like the others she’s transformed, and we see a very different Bee costume on her than the one we saw so long ago.

“Queen Bee? It’s been some time since you’ve been wielding that particular Miraculous.” Chloe rolls her eyes and strides forward, still far clearly shorter than Gabriel but defiant.

“Yeah whatever, the only reason you’re here is because they want ALL the ‘traitors’ or whatever. So it’s you, Me, and Sun Min.”

“I’m guessing you all are planning on giving them hell.”

“As much hell as we can give.” Alix assures. Gabriel tenses, jaw clenching.

“I would request access to the Ram, as Felix refused to give up the Rooster-”

“Felix was concussed and under orders.” Bridget responds.

“Also No.” Marinette follows up. “If they see a Miraculous on you they’ll smell a rat immediately and then we’re hosed, Adrien’s hosed, and possibly the whole damn city if they get REALLY lucky.”

“Understood.”

Marinette sighs, and then goes Ladybug mode. “Okay guys, let’s get our cat back.”

Adrien groans when the lights come back on in the room he’s being held in. “You know, I honestly don’t know the point in disorienting me, I know where we are, I know how many of you there are, and I know what weapons you have at your disposal, so what’s the point in it other than to give me a headache?”

“That’s exactly the point.” Hoàng Tuyến responds idly as she quickly Activates Venom to freeze Adrien as she unties and then re-ties him up, now no longer attached to the chair. “I don’t know if you’ve ever transported a prisoner anywhere before but it’s not easy.” She follows up after she uncalls venom and forces Adrien forward.

“I can assume I’m not too fond of Making it easy!” He swipes out with his leg to try and sweep Hoàng Tuyến’s legs out from under her but she sort of rolls her eyes as he does so and slams him against a wall. Adrien’s head bounces back after impact and now HE’s got a little head trauma too.

“Ow….” He mutters, but when Hoàng Tuyến moved him forward again he went without fight.

“Alright, let’s get this over with. We’re almost to victory.” she announces.

The world shifts again, now to the dark of night. We find ourselves in Eiffel park, because where else would this whole thing be? The heroes waiting in the old stomping ground on the tower itself other than of course, the allotted distractions, Queen Bee, Lionheart, and Gabriel Agreste. The three of them are clearly within eyeshot of the heroes, but it’s still a distance away.

There’s a flash of light, a thud of feet, and then they’re no longer alone. All of the currently able bodied Old Order members are there, Adrien gripped in Hoàng Tuyến’s grasp.

“Sensei let me tell you, black doesn’t look good on you.” Sun Min states after a pause. “I’m surprised they’re having you hang onto the Black Cat for how Master Wan is about all of this.”

“Sun Min-” Manabe starts before shaking his head. “It doesn’t matter, you and yours have been abusing Miraculous far too much, and unless you want to learn what a Cataclysm-” the black energy begins to spark between Manabe’s fingertips “does to a human, you should probably be handing them over.”

He leans forward and holds a hand very pointedly above Adrien, still in the grip of Hoàng Tuyến. Adrien is of course unshaken, staring defiantly back at Manabe. “Wouldn’t you like to know?” He responds with a smirk. “For all you know it’s a fat lotta nothing. For all you know it doesn’t affect living beings. You wanna roll the dice with that M. Dolphin?”

“Wait.” Tsering Wan speaks up instead. Striding forward until he’s considerably closer to Chloe. “What is the meaning of this?”

“What? Don’t recognize me?” Queen Bee looks quite a lot like the cat that ate the canary for a moment as she chuckles behind a hand “Is it a surprise? You all know I was the bee first. Is it inconvenient for you? To have the Lion back is one thing it did start out yours, but what? Did you not want the bee? Were you expecting something else?”

“You fool no one, little tiger.” Tsering Wan hisses and for a moment Chloe does look a bit uncertain, but she quickly covers it up. “I suppose we should have expected your lot to have figured out what we were after.”

“Uh, yeah, Sun Min had no reason to hide it from us. We found out basically once he placed himself on our team.”

“So what on earth makes you think we’ll be accepting this trade off? Manabe?” Manabe’s hand gets closer to Adrien’s head.

“All you asked for were ‘the traitors’ you didn’t say ANYTHING about what specific Miraculous you wanted out of any of us.”

Tsering Wan maintains Chloe’s gaze for a moment before looking to Gabriel. “Agreste, you’d think YOU’D know better than to assume such terms were so specific. Especially with your son’s life on the line.”

“Nathalie wouldn’t let you all do anything to him. She’s talking a big game nowadays but she doesn’t have it in her to go through.”

Nathalie, whom had been silent until this point, takes a notable few steps forward, drawing the blade from where it was hidden in the cane. “Don’t claim to know what I am and am not capable of, Gabriel.”

“Going to fight an unarmed man, Nathalie? So much for those fair fights you believed in. You’ve been losing a lot of your morals lately, haven’t you?”

“Don’t let him bait you.” Manabe insists before looking at the two younger heroes. “Remove your Miraculouses and we’ll let the Agreste Boy go.”

“Manabe, don’t contradict me!” Tsering Wan shoots back. “Child. Where is your sister? If you took the Bee from her I’m sure that means SHE has the Tiger?”

“Ew. Creep.” And of course the first person to make this physical is Tsering Wan, reaching out and grabbing Queen Bee’s wrist just as she was about to reach up and haughtily flip her hair. “Hey-!”

“We came here for a reason, and you and your attempts to manipulate us aren’t going to work. Manabe Izumi, It seems as though these people WANT their friend to be returned to them in a shoebox. Go ahead.”

“.... yes Master Wan.”

Adrien lashes out just then, this time properly nailing Hoàng Tuyến in the leg and sending her to one side as he rolls the other way.

“Swarm!” Chloe shoves the trompo in Tsering Wan’s face, Sun Min draws the brass knuckles, and Gabriel gives a sharp whistle as he backs away.

That’s the signal. The team descends, and chaos erupts. The teams are split into quickly as a few heroes take on an order member at a time, not dissimilar to the mid-season finale, but this time-.... This time Tsering Wan nods at Nathalie, whom runs a hand over the top of the cane dome.

….You guys remember how many butterflies she was able to make when she was trying to akumatize Michael?

She slams a hand down, and her butterfly halo lights up, and sure enough in the surrounding trees, a number of other halos light up. The council.

Akumas, every last one of them. Similar, as pieces of a whole, and some are clearly in edited versions of a hero’s outfit, but now the numbers are evenly matched one to one.

“Well, Council of the Order, perhaps it is time to even the numbers.” Nathalie humms. “Master Wu, would you like to do the others?” Wu Lian, now in a pitch black version of her wolf uniform places a hand on Nathalie’s shoulder, she cringed for a moment as the akuma doesn’t do much to heal the wound on her side, but she gestures toward the heroes. “Alright everyone. Take no more prisoners.”

The fight goes absolutely nuts from there, everyone locked in one on ones with various levels of combat skills. Back and forths with similar weapons, skill acquisitions with certain Akumas. Adrien and Gabriel both without Miraculouses just trying not to get killed. At some point Manabe pulls away from fighting Sun Min and swings out with the cataclysm, but just a half second before his hand clamps over Adrien’s face the black energy sputters out.

Adrien pulls away in panic, but understands what happened quickly. He smiles at the ring inches away from him.

“Thanks buddy.” he makes a swipe for the ring, but Manabe moves away before he can.

It seems like these general battles aren’t going to last quite as long as one would hope for the heroes’ sake. But just as things are about to land one way or the other, specifically, as Tsering Wan seems about to actually get Ladybug with his spear, the wind picks up. And with a shout of ‘Stormbringer!’ it turns into a violent gust.

The battles pause for just a moment and the heroes get some distance. But a ‘Dispell!’ flung onto a very specific part of the wind makes it stop abruptly, Ryuko barely landing on her feet.

“Did someone ask for reinforcements?” She draws her sword.

“Ryuko!” “Kagami!” two very noticeable excited voices chime in the crowd. Kagami smirks.

“And I did not come alone.”

“MinMin!” Sun Min’s expression drops, but just as Hoàng Tuyến is about to land a Venom strike the tails of a cat-o-ninetails wraps around her wrist and pulls her away, Yun Eun-Ji winking at her old friend. Noticeably, Yun Eun-Ji is wearing an updated look as well.

“Come on MinMin we all know the party don’t start till the girls arrive.”

“....really? In front of the WHOLE team?”

“You let their opinion of you mess with your self image? Oh how the mighty have fallen MinMin.” Yun Eun-Ji shakes her head.

The fighting of course is continuing, but just as another blow, this time from Nathalie is about to strike, about to crack down and split Adrien’s skull open, a whirring noise fills the air, and Nathalie is caught in a bolas trap, clawed ends clinging to the rope of the bolas and anchoring her in place.

“What?!”

“Hey! Little Adrien is a cool guy. Don’t pick on him.” And we see the thing we promised at the end of the Shanghai special, A-Fei wielding a Miraculous. Her outfit is black and pink, a pair of wide leaf-shaped bat ears fastened in her hair, her look otherwise simple, seems to have been thought up in a rish. Her wrist is adorned with dark grey cuff, a shining obsidian stone in the center a five pronged bat wing.

“Pick on someone your own size, Miss butterfly.”

Nathalie hisses at her and with a sort of clicking sound, the bolas unlatch themselves and return to A-Fei’s hand. “I’ve never fought a real villain before, be gentle.”

The fight there becomes a little more fun, the heroes seem to be on the offensive finally with numbers on their side. Until finally-

“Fall Back!” Tsering Wan shouts. There’s a scream that sounds like Amber. Chloe shrieks back and begins to fight tooth and nail to seek her sister out in the crowd, but by the time the path is clear their enemies are gone.

“Amber!”

Amber is detransformed, clutching her hand in pain, tears building in her eyes. She cracks her eyes open at Chloe and squeezes them shut again. “I’m sorry- He got the drop on me…”

Chloe grabs her hand and holds it, her wrist and most of her fingers are purple and already starting to swell. Broken. And Miraculous-less.

There’s a silence between the lot of them, before Marinette takes a headcount as well.

“Adrien, did you see what direction your father ran off in?”

“...no. But that doesn’t matter, we have to get them. I know where the Old Order has been hanging out. They were at Nathalie’s apartment and if Wu Lian is wounded then they’ll head back there before she gets the Akuma out of her body. We have to go and make sure they don’t have it for long enough for their spell.” Adrien stands up and staggers for a moment but straightens his back. “I’ll head back to the base really quick and get the ram. Ladybug do you think-”

“Wu Lian got me before I could summon Lucky Charm. I don’t have a cure until the Dispell fades.”

“And by then it’ll have taken too long and the cure won’t work.” Kagami surmises.

Adrien looks away and curses quietly.

“Hey-” Juleka pipes up. “Here.” She takes the nose ring out. “Me and Rose are the most inexperienced, other than Sabrina, but the Peacock would be a big learning curve for something this important.” She hands it to Adrien, Dynaa coming with her.

“Give him back when you’re done, okay? I like being the Ox.”

Adrien takes the ring and nods. Wiping the prongs on his shirt real quick before slipping it into place. “Dynaa, transform me.”

Ox Adrien in the house.

But as the transformation fades we come again to the shadows. This time Tsering Wan is successful when he slips the bracelet around his wrist. “Shoor, awaken.”

The Tiger reluctantly rises. “.... Scorpion.”

“Is that any way to call your new master?” Misso scolds, drifting out from behind Tsering Wan.

“Wielder.” Shorr reluctantly corrects.

“You let the children think too casually of the forces you allowed them to command.” Now Tsering Wan cuts in.

“They held us with reverence, we asked them to see us as kin. Our children are stronger than yours.”

“Your children are fools.” He stalks forward directly into the camera. “And they’ll be gone soon enough.” Misso chuckles.

We cut to black.

Felix Month

Day 12: Growing Up

(Kinda a continuation of my day ten thing)

Felix was four years old when he assumed his first real responsibility. Caring for his new brother, Adrien. No, they were not really brothers, merely adopted cousins, but the moment Adrien crawled up to Felix and offered a toy, Felix knew he would do anything for him.

It was by no means an easy job, protecting him from fan girls was often a struggle, as they clutched to him too. However, he still prevailed. His brother stayed safe.

Felix was nine years old when he decided to become smarter. His aunt Emilie had become terribly sick and no doctor could heal her. He became utterly devoted to finding a cure. It was his first step to become the aspiring medical student he was presently.

Felix was ten years old when he was forced to grow up. Aunt Emilie died and the family friend Nathalie moved in. She clearly preferred Adrien over him, likely because Adrien reminded her of Emilie. He was covered in responsibilities. Modeling, fencing, Chinese, and homeschooling. He never had a minute of rest.

Meanwhile, Adrien was coddled to no end. Felix didn’t mind, he knew Adrien missed his mother terribly, and his father was in an intense state of grieving. But still, it might be nice to have some affection as well.

Then came the bodyguard. The only person who listened to Felix and didn’t belittle him for mourning his adopted mother and aunt. He wasn’t known for talking much, but neither was Felix. Gorilla, as Felix had taken to calling him, was patient with Felix, allowing him to rant and rave. He distracted Felix when necessary, and made Felix feel appreciated and look forward to being driven to fencing.

Finally, finally, Adrien was going to school. Felix was allowed as well. (“If only to keep him out of trouble.”) Adrien was practically vibrating with excitement and Felix was looking forward to it. When he stepped out, behind Adrien, he felt a meaty hand on his shoulder. His bodyguard. “I know, behave well and uphold the Agreste name.”

The towering man shook his head. “No, that’s for him.” He nodded at Adrien, who was being smothered by Chloe. “You don’t forget that part.”

“Then what do I forget?” Felix was growing impatient. He had to make a good first impression on his class. Being late would not achieve that.

He lowered until he was eye to eye with Felix. “Have fun. Adrien forgets his responsibilities in favor of fun. You forget fun in favor of responsibility. You’re only fourteen, Felix. Have fun.”

“I shall try.” He gave a crisp nod to Gorilla and sped off to join Adrien.

Once there, he took notice of everyone in class, committing their names and faces to memory.

Juleka, Rose, Alya, and Nathaniel were in the back.

Max, Kim, and Ivan in the next row.

Alix, Mylene, Sabrina and Chloe in the next.

Marinette, Nino, himself, and Adrien in the front.

“Welcome, everyone! If like to introduce three new students! Felix Culpa-“

“Agreste,” He interrupted, “my last name is Agreste.”

“Oh, then Felix and Adrien Agreste, and Alya Césaire.”

And thus, class began.

Later in the day, Ivan, who had been sent to the principals office for being threatening to Kim, returned as a giant stone beast. The rest of the class ran away, except for Alya, who pursued the creature, followed by Nathaniel.

Once at home, Felix found a small box on his desk, which, when opened, displayed a bee themed hair clip and a flash of light.

A bobble headed bee leaned forward. “Hullo, your highness.”

“Excuse me?”

“My name is Pollen, I am your kwami. I grant abilities through this miraculous that will help defeat the monster.”

“Okay,” Felix glanced at the “miraculous”, “Do I have to wear the clip? I feel like that would arouse some suspicion.”

“No, actually,” she floated down and rested her arms on the clip. There was another flash of light and a small bee shaped pin rested in its place, “what about a pin, or cuff links, or–“

“The pin is fine, thank you.” He put it on. “Now, what do I need to do?”

“Your power is one of subjection. Just say ‘venom’ and it will happen. Afterwards, you only have five minutes to finish before you transform back. Your job is to assist the ladybug and black cat. Say ‘Pollen, buzz on,’ to transform”

“Alright, one minute please.” He dashed out his door, to Adrien’s room. “Re, I might be out for a few min…”

Adrien was staring at a floating black cat, “Fe! I- you’re not supposed to know about this!”

“It’s fine, Re. I have one too. Let’s just get this over with.”

With that, they transformed and leapt our the window. The battle was complicated. It was clear that all of them were novices to the heroing business, and the Ladybug forgot to purify the akuma. But it was complete.

They returned to school, after Plagg had been given some of Felix’s Camembert and Pollen had been given a spoonful of honey.

“How about a group project to get to know one another? You’re in groups of four.”

Adrien and Felix joined Nino and Marinette, who had moved seats dispite Chloe. “So, we need to do four activities with each other to help us get to know each other.”

“Mine can be designing!” Offered Marinette.

“I’ll do DJing.” Said Nino.

“I could do modeling?” Suggested Adrien.

“Chess.” Declared Felix.

“Alright, then we’ll split up into pairs, do each other’s, then shuffle.”

“I will try my hand at designing.”

“And DJing sounds cool!” Adrien grinned at Nino, who offered a wary smile in return.

“After school? The bakery.” Asked Marinette.

“Yeah, I can do that.”

“Sure!”

“My schedule is empty enough.”

At the bakery, Felix’s mouth was stuffed full of treats. “Please, sir, madame. I’ll do without, thank you.”

“Okay! Nino, I know you need room for DJing, you can do it downstairs. And Felix, I have a chess set in my room, if you’d like to do it upstairs?”

“Sounds satisfactory.”

As they climbed the stairs, Adrien was already gushing about how much fun they were going to have. Felix gave him a soft smile as he left the living room and climbed the ladder to Marinette’s room.

There was a video game of sorts playing on her monitor. “Oop! Sorry about that. Ultimate Mecha Strike Three, you know. So addictive.”

“I don’t know, actually. I’ve never played.”

“What?” Her eyes widened in astonishment. “School can wait! You are playing U.M.S.!”

“Now?”

“Yes, now!” She yanked him to a chair. “Now here’s what everything does,” she handed him a manual, “but I find it better to learn from experience. Let’s go!”

Felix was fourteen when he learned to be a child again. He may have lost time and time again to a petite blue haired girl, but he learned to have fun. And to develop an infatuation.

a/n: me, crying over jihyun kim after playing his route for the 3rd time: h --mod touko

meanwhile, i’m crying over saeran’s route after playing it for the first time: OH OKAY! -- mod hikari

mod hikari did grims and berkut and i did micky and soren!!

grima hates the fact they worry over you; first of all, you’re a human, and you’re fragile and weak. anything could kill you. second, you’ve wormed your way into their heart so deeply that if anything happened to you they would lose it.

when they first see you after your sleepless night working on strategies and rationing the army’s feathers, they snap. they’re scolding you, telling you how it’s foolish to worry over the army if you can’t take care of yourself.

the army depends on you, they say. but you can hear the subtle tone in their voice (they depend on you), and you smile. you tease that you’ll only be able to rest well next to a certain fell dragon, and grima will turn stone-faced, and sink down stiffly.

you’ll nap happily on their lap, eyes closed, breathing even, and grima will cover you with their coat. if anyone approaches you, grima will snarl and tell them something like “go away,” but ruder, depending on who it is.

berkut’s first reaction when he sees the dark circles under your eyes and the way 5 different heroes need your attention at any moment is to pull you away.

without another word, you’re on his horse, wrapped in his arms, and he’s galloping to a quiet corner of the castle. berkut knows all too well what it’s like to push yourself, as he’s done the same multiple times. but it’s only after spending time in askr that he realizes how pointless and dangerous it is to not let yourself get needed rest.

in a secluded garden where he’s certain no one will disturb you, he tells you how stupid it is to overwork yourself, and literally forces you to rest. his tone is still cold and a bit haughty, but it’s gentler than it normally is; this is you he’s talking to, after all.

the two of you talk for a bit, and maybe you’ll make a flower crown or two he’ll wear grudgingly. it’s a peaceful moment, and no one dares risk berkut’s wrath by disturbing you.

michalis is super tsundere about it. he’ll call you “stupid” and lectures you a lot about needing to be healthy “for the sake of the army” (not because he’s worried, no) and such all the while carrying you to bed to force you to go to sleep.

of course, he also stays and watches you just to make sure you fall asleep, trying to keep the thoughts out of his head of how cute you look sleeping soundly.

if anyone comments on how he seems to be following you like a shadow, making sure you rest and don’t hurt yourself, they’re going to meet the sharp side of his axe.

soren will literally scold you. he’s really afraid of losing the few people he trusts but isn’t good at expressing it so he just… lashes out at you and others you were training with. + “what were you thinking? do you want to die during training? are you that stupid? you’re going to kill yourself if you keep this up, you--!”

makes sure you’re getting good rest from then on, in his own way. he’ll take some of your responsibilities and when you try to assure him you can take care of it, he’ll shoo you away, assuring he can do it much better.

you sighed and decided to tell him the truth
