From my point of view, what's beautiful in the sport is that you don't need to know too much about tactics or anything to see. If you find something beautiful, you don't need to be an expert to know it. It's like ballet… The reason it was nicknamed 'ginga' was that normally, when we'd play against a European team…back then, the European teams were very tough and physical. They were big, and defensively solid... There were some in Brazil who thought we should make that our football culture. We would say, 'We want to dance. We want to ginga. Football is not about fighting to the death. You have to play beautifully.' And so we did, and that's the reason that Brazil created more of a show, more of a ballet… The ambition should always be to play an elegant game.
- Pelé (Edson Arantes do Nascimento)
Pelé was born on Oct. 23, 1940, his father was a professional soccer player in their native Brazil. Pelé — who was given his nickname by childhood friends because of the way he mispronounced his favourite soccer player goalkeeper Bilé  - honed his craft playing futsal (or indoor soccer) in Bauru, the region within São Paulo, where Pelé grew up.
In 1956, at only the age of 15, Pelé tried out for the Santos FC professional club near São Paulo. He soon signed a contract with the team and made his professional debut on Sept. 7, 1956. In the Brazilian press, Pelé was instantly hailed as a star, with the forward leading the league in scoring as a 16-year-old in 1957. The following year, Pelé joined the Brazilian national team for the 1958 World Cup, delivering a performance that would make him a global star and earn him the nickname “O Rei,” or “The King.”
Pelé’s dominance continued through the Sixties as his Santos team won six championships in the Brazilian league over the course of that decade, while Brazil also won the World Cup in 1962 and 1970, with Pelé winning the Golden Ball for best player at the latter tournament. In his 19 seasons at Santos, spanning from 1956 to 1974 and roughly 660 games, Pelé scored a record-shattering 643 goals.
Tumblr media
In 1975, Pelé helped ignite interest in “the Beautiful Game” - a phrase he in part popularised for the sport, inspired by his own majestic style of play — in the U.S., a country seemingly culturally impervious to soccer’s charms: The American team failed to even qualify for the World Cup between 1954 to 1986. Following nearly two decades at Santos and a brief retirement, Pelé signed with the New York Cosmos of the North American Soccer League.
Pelé’s mere presence helped the Cosmos reach record attendances, and the sport itself gained public awareness otherwise unheard of stateside. He spent three years with the Cosmos, culminating in a Soccer Bowl championship with the Cosmos in 1977. That same year, Pelé played his final game as a pro as the Cosmos hosted his former longtime team, Santos, for an exhibition match at a sold-out Giants Stadium, with Pelé playing for both teams during the game. In the near half-century following his retirement, Pelé became one of soccer’s greatest ambassadors, continuing his push to keep the “Beautiful Game” on the forefront of the world stage. He starred in soccer-related movies — 1981’s Escape to Victory and 1986’s Hotshot — and teamed with Brazilian musician Sergio Mendes on the soundtrack to a 1977 documentary about his life. He received an honorary knighthood from Queen Elizabeth as well as every other possible soccer-related accolade, from the FIFA Order of Merit to the FIFA Player of the Century to a spot on TIme’s 100 Most Important People of the 20th Century list.
Tumblr media
The debate over his status as the all-time No.1 is almost unresolvable, with Lionel Messi the only player to match him in Ballon d'Or awards, and the Argentine and Cristiano Ronaldo also leading him in the all-time goal race. But you can judge Pelé’s greatness by what his footballing peers - legendary players in their own time. “The best player ever? Pelé. (Lionel) Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are both great players with specific qualities, but Pelé was better.” said Alfredo Di Stefano, the late and great Argentine star for Real Madrid. Ferenc Puskas, the legendary Hungarian footballer disagreed, “The greatest player in history was Di Stefano. I refuse to classify Pelé as a player. He was above that.” For Franz Beckenbauer, he said of Pelé “He is the most complete player I ever saw.”Rarely do the Germans see eye to eye with the Dutch such is their footballing rivalry, but for the late great Johann Cruyff, “Pelé was the only footballer who surpassed the boundaries of logic.”.
Even Ronaldo, the only player on the same level as Lionel Messi in the modern game, put the debate to rest when he declared, “Pelé is the greatest player in football history, and there will only be one Pelé in the world.”
RIP King Pelé (1940-2022)

let me just talk about it.
i ruled an poc rp only once and we had that family that should be indigenous, exclusively. it was a fantasy roleplay, we weren't using anything from cultures but creating some inspired on this show that we liked a lot. so we had this indigenous family, this spanish family, this brazilian family, this black families and this argentine family. we were hanging out. i'm from peru, lived in south africa for 6 years, peru for 8, brazil for 7 and argentina for 5. currently here now. all bc of my dad's job.
i'm not indigenous myself. my grandfather was mixed, half indigenous man, but we were never proud of it once my great-grandfather literally stole my great-grandmother from her family and tribe, so we were never connected about it. we never talked about it. it IS HARD.
but once i created this roleplay and i wanted to make sure that i was doing right at least roleplaying. and i reached natalie out for having some help, because i didn't want to offend anyone. and i think it was for the worse.
i was talking to natalie on anon and i felt like trash. i don't have any experiences as an indigenous, i do not consider myself indigenous once my family was mostly made by white people and this died with my grandfather and his lands, because i don't feel like I have priority on this, so i wanted to make sure that I was doing it right.
natalie really did made me feel guilty for not "rescuing" my ancestors or my story, but how could i if the first indigenous was kidnapped and the only person that could talk to me about it died when i was 12??? and then, when i took bravery to talk about it and explain the indigenous characters we had this massive anon hate for not being truly indigenous. i wasn't understanding if i was supposed to put this diversity inspired on a tv show, or if i shouldn't because I'm not indigenous???? what was more offensive???? IT SHOULDN'T BE THAT PERSONAL. another famous gifmaker was also shading me but I'm not bringing this up. they were friend if I'm correct.
the rp was closed before we could even open. and i played this indigenous fc for a CANON character and i gave me so much anxiety that i literally stopped roleplaying for months. and i hated indigenousrph, i hate everything you were creating. I do apologize for that, I am really sorry. but I feel, for real, that natalie was a great piece for this massive hate and avoiding of indigenous faces and games: we were afraid and panicking all the time.
i don't know if this is making any sense I'm nervous and terrifying of being recognized. I just want to finally talk about how I feel. I'm sorry for causing this trouble, and I'm sorry for not being aware of my ancestors. but honestly I shouldn't be sorry. this is shit.
i want to start this off by saying that i understand the reasoning why you don't consider yourself indigenous, but if that's ever something you wanted to explore or learn more about, please know you have every right to do so. before i actively started reconnecting, i would only ever say i was native if i was specifically asked, but usually i would tell everybody i was irish and italian. it was something only mentioned every now and then in my family. (granted, my grandpa's house was decked out in dreamcatchers, photos, plaques, etc. but we just didn't actively talk about it!) but when i decided to make the leap into simply learning more about where i came from, my mindset on it switched. that's just MY experience, though. i wanted to open that up for you if that was ever something that crossed your mind! you have every right to do what's best for you, of course. now onto the natalie shit. simply... fuck her. such an ugly soul, like truly horrible. i apologize that she put you through that and ever made you feel that bad. especially to the point of not even wanting to write anymore. this is just a note for ANYBODY in the rpc but: play indigenous muses! it's nothing to be scared about (now)! all you have to do is not give them some tigerlily greywolf name, and not give them all the indigenous stereotypes (lives on a poor rez, gambles, drinks, etc.) and you're good! same with any other ethnicity, you just... PLAY THEM. but back to you - thank you for sending this in. i hope saying this give you a little bit of comfort, and heals you! nothing was your fault, your family's history is not something you are to blame for? what she did was not fair to you or to other people trying to learn more and ensure they're being respectful.

He's infamous for his relentless and brutal methods, earning him the nickname Colmilho (fang). According to the journalist Rafael da Silva, Delegado Colmilho only answers to orders, not to morals or reason, seemingly having lost his humanity when his wife had died.
Addendum for the supernatural verse
Paulo is aware of the existence of supernatural beings and expects them to simply adhere to the same laws and rules as regular humans. He doesn't shy away from confronting supernatural rule breakers, as well as hunters who violate the law, especially when killing those supernaturals that were innocent citizens.

Colmilho is romantically and sexually attracted to women (but gay for Wagner Moura muses because mun says so). He's widowed and bitter, trying to keep everyone at a distance with his horribly mean behaviour. Kingz Athlete Spotlight: John Hansen
Kingz Athlete Spotlight: John Hansen
One of the biggest underdogs in this year’s ADCC World Championships is also probably one of the most interesting individuals in the BJJ community today: John Hansen. childrens kimonos
For those who asked themselves “who is this guy?” – a valid question, considering his relatively low internet profile – John earned his way to the biggest stage in grappling via an astounding 30-second submission against Damon Ramos in the finals of the ADCC East Coast Trials. Though he didn’t make it as far as he had hoped at the World Championships, we know that won’t be the last time we see his name on the ADCC roster.
As stealthy as his internet presence might be, you can’t miss John in a crowd. A giant, even among the giants of the ultra heavyweight divisions, the 6’4” Midwestern native with the unassuming smile makes the likes Nicky Rod and Cyborg look average.
But greater than his sheer physical mass, is his deep humility and sense of self.
So, exactly who is John Hansen?
How long have you been training?
I started training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2010. Before that, I was training in MMA from about 2008 onward. But I had been watching the ADCC on the internet, and trying to figure out what grappling was, long before I started training.
How did you start?
In 2005, I graduated high school and went off to college. While at university, I found myself struggling to make friends and engage socially, just like I had my whole life. I was convinced that it was my 6'4" 145lbs frame that made myself invisible to women, and undesirable to engage with socially by men, so I began lifting and eating. By the end of my freshman year, I had successfully gained 25lbs, and was a slender 170. Convinced this was my ticket to positive social engagement, and the ever illusive "girlfriend", I kept lifting and eating.
During this time, I was obsessively interested in combat sports. I loved MMA and, while finding information on the IBJJF was difficult to say the least, everyone knew what the ADCC was. My favorite MMA fighters were Ricardo Arona, and Mark Kerr. They both fought in Pride FC, and commentator Mauro Renallo often listed their accolades; speaking often of their success in the ADCC. I had to know what the ADCC was, so I started searching out content. This was in the infancy of YouTube and the content was difficult to find. BudoVideos had the ADCCs out, usually 18 months later, and those matches were uploaded to YouTube and bitTorrent immediately. To say I was a combat sports nerd (as well as an actual nerd, with a dual major of Astronomy and Physics) is an understatement. But I watched that content religiously.
What started as watching grappling, turned quickly into me breaking down and zooming in on matches seconds at a time. I wanted to train, but neither knew people who did, nor had the courage to step on the mat.
So, instead, I watched the ADCC matches and practiced everything I saw on my body pillow in my dorm room. I did this for hours a day. Eventually, I went back home and a city adjacent to where I grew up (Omaha, where I now live) was having a BJJ tournament. I had an idea. I would enter the tournament, fight in the division, and expectedly lose. But, in losing, I'd have the opportunity to make a friend, and ask them where they trained and see if I could go with them. It was perfect. It had to work.
What happened instead was that I accidentally won the tournament. Then, I didn't feel like I could ask someone that I'd just beaten to train with them at their gym. This happened in my first tournament. This happened again, during my second, and third, tournaments. Each time I jumped up in skill division, from beginner, to intermediate, then advanced, then expert or pro. At the time, without guidance, I thought that if you won a tournament you were supposed to go up to the next level, like in a video game. This may seem like a juvenile consideration… but, when you've no resources to ask and no internet to really consult, you just make things up, as best you can, on your own. Within a year I was competing in the Expert or Pro No-Gi divisions, and have been doing so ever since.
