After each run there is always a period of reflection. We complete research before setting off but information makes more sense when we’ve actually visited a trig and we therefore, we tend to learn lots more about them after the event. Therefore, I just want to take this opportunity to give a little more detail about some of the trigs we’ve been to.

Moor Top

This trig had a metal plate attached to it with the inscription:

We commented on the fact that we hadn’t seen a plaque on a trig before but really thought little more about it. However, after visiting Moor Top I was reading through previous comments left about this trig on Trigpointing UK and found someone had written in 2017 that they were pleasantly surprised to find it was a passive station. I didn’t know what a passive station was so it wetted the juices to find out a bit more.

It seems there are currently 1052 stations in the passive network. These are accurately surveyed locations around the country which, unlike traditional pillars and FBMs (Fundamental Benchmarks), are both easily accessible and give good accuracy for both position and height. An online database of passive stations is maintained by the Ordnance Survey. We can only presume Moor Top bears a plaque because it is a passive station and still in use.

When you buy a Laptop or Notebook, for that current operating system which came pre-installed in it, shall never face any drivers issues, as those have been identified and optimized by OEM’s itself. But the real problem starts when you upgrade your laptop to latest operating system and then invites the issues of missing drivers of various components of your Laptop/Notebook. How to find “Device ID” of Unknown Devices in Device Manager

Right click on “This PC” or “My Computer” icon and select Manage and then “Device Manager“.

Locate those components which are being shown as “Unknown Device” with a Yellow Exclamation or Question Mark.

Right click on those devices and select “Properties“.

In Properties, go to “Details” Tab.

In Details tab, locate “Hardware ID” (3rd option) from dropdown list.

A sub-menu would open, with a couple of sentences you need to check.

Those device ID’s should look like similar as above or below for Unknown Devices:

Device ID can be single line, or even 2 or of 3 lines. But notable thing is every detail of “Device ID” would have VEN and DEV in it. If it’s not, then keep looking, until you locate details similar as above.

Heya! Da wir kein obligatorisches Selfie in unseren Cosplays auf der FBM gemacht haben, gibt's hier ein Pre-Con Bild auf dem wir noch energisch und fit waren. :D Sowohl Isaac als auch ich sind uns einig, dass die FBM dieses Jahr sehr sehr viel Spaß gemacht hat und sind auch traurig darüber, da das auch die letzte große Con in diesem Jahr war. Aber hey, in der Winterpause hat man dann Zeit an neuen Cosplays und Projekten zu basteln, stimmt's? :) Hoffe ihr hattet am Wochenende auch so eine gute Zeit und wir freuen uns natürlich über viele Bilder!

What Is Equity Crowdfunding (ECF)?

Equity Crowdfunding is a method for Startups and Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs) or Businesses to raise funds via the general public, a.k.a. Retail Investors. Retail Investors develop operational strategies for the company using his extensive experience in operational management. He designs and implements training processes to ensure a high level of efficiency in the workshops for deals on ECF platforms to Invest in businesses in exchange for Equity.

These businesses are generally high risk, high return investment alternative to other Investment instruments like Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds or Trust Funds, or even Fixed Deposits. Startups generally have a 25% yearly average return, however, it also comes with a high risk of >90% mortality rate.

Of course, the 25% return is after even the failures of those startups, as the successful Startups are able to provide more than 5X or if you are lucky, more than 30X returns on your investment.

Startup Investment is a numbers and skills game – the numbers being you have to invest in enough Startups (we generally assume >20) and the skills being able to spot the right Startups to invest in. 

How Does Equity Crowdfunding Work?

The Steps to participate in Equity Crowdfunding for Investors is shown above. 

For Startups, here’s what you can expect when raising funds via Equity Crowdfunding

Prepare to go public (or semi-public). Your business will now have shareholders from the outside. Having a good shareholders agreement will help in the future.

Be prepared to show your numbers on the platform. Members of the platform can view the information to evaluate your company. This is to help them make a decision for investment purposes. So, the numbers should look good!

The Securities Commission of Malaysia has allowed ECF operators to charge a certain percentage (%) on the amount raised. For example, if you raise RM3m, the ECF operator will charge 7% (RM210k) as their fee. This goes to pay for their operational costs in running the ECF platform. This is standard in the ECF industry.

Prepare to publicise the offering. Having a media strategy is important to get a maximum benefit from ECF funding publicity. 

Prepare your FFF (Friends, Family & Fools). Letting them know before you go live is important to help you boost your initial fundraiser. This will help you get the rest of your money. If a deal is only 5% funded for the first 2 weeks, that is not a good sign. Feel free to include current shareholders.

Prepare a fundraising video. This is important to engage and to educate your target investors on why they should invest in your company. It is important to help them understand your business so that they feel comfortable to invest in your company.

Some equity crowdfunding platforms also charge other fees to cover costs such as due diligence before approving Startups to be able to list on the platform for fundraising. This is to ensure the quality of deals on their platforms.

How Can We Compare the platforms of Equity Crowdfunding in Malaysia?

The answer, as always, is that it depends. Some platforms have their specialities and niches, or strengths;

Propeller Crowd Plus – PCP has a track record of SME companies.

PitchIn – PitchIn has a track record of various types of Startups to date.

Funded By Me – FBM has a track record of deals with companies based in Penang.

Ata Plus – AP has a track record of funding social enterprises.

Crowdo – Crowdo has a track record of Startups and P2P Money Lending.

Eureeca – Most of their track record is from the Middle East & the UK.

If you were to look at all of them, they all have their strengths and track records. It is up to Startup Founders to decide how they would like to benefit from raising funds from an ECF platform. We encourage Startups to talk to all the ECF operators to learn about what intangibles they can provide other than just the money.

Sometimes, they offer connections to the right Investors, or even extra media coverage, or other forms of help.

What Is Equity Crowdfunding in Malaysia an Alternative To (For Startups)?

Where else can startups find investments or funding (i.e. alternatives to equity crowdfunding in Malaysia)?

Pre-Seed & Seed or Early Stage Venture Capital (VCs) typically from RM100k to 3M

Angel Investor Networks or Groups (Not Individual Angel Investors) typically from RM50k to 1M

Government Grants like the Cradle CIP 300 or TERAJU

Government Funds like Cradle Seed Ventures or PlatCom Ventures or others.

Note that although there are alternatives, they can be combined as well, depending on a Startups Fund Raising Strategy. 

Pros & Cons of Equity Crowd Funding (ECF)

Pros

ECF is an easy way to get media attention. Having this as part of your media strategy will help.

Engage your customers – why not get your best advocates to be a part of your business? Hopefully, they will join you in promoting it further.

Transparency & Compliance – having a transparent & compliant business is important for long-term success. ECF is a step closer to that. Do expect to report regularly to your investors.

A Strong reach of Retail Investors – there are hundreds of investors on ECF platforms – all of which are a potential your investors! Be prepared to hold annual general meetings.

ECF platforms act as your Investment Advisor – as there is someone to help you through the process.

Cons

Equity crowdfunding is not for every business – the benefits of crowdfunding may not apply to B2B businesses, for example.

Compliance requirements – be prepared to report to your investors, hold annual general meetings and administrative work along with that. 

Startups have to be ready to open up their financial numbers to the public – although this is available to members only. 

Startups need to be ready to have a larger than the usual number of investors or shareholders. Having additional partners in your business is something that all businesses should think about seriously.

There are costs to equity crowdfunding. Other than fees, it takes time and effort to build up a crowdfunding campaign. Angel investment, for example, is completely free for Startups.

There is a chance that the equity crowdfunding process may fail. This may not reflect well in the market. Your upfront fees may also no be refunded depending on the platform.

Equity Crowdfunding in Malaysia now (2019)

The 7 biggest platforms currently in the Malaysian market are Ata Plus, Crowdo, FundedByMe, Crowdplus.asia, Fundnel, Eureeca and PitchIN. Fundnel is the latest platform that was granted a license.

After it was introduced, 50 SME’s were funded with a collective amount of close to MYR 49 million. Close to 60% of all the investors who contributed to this amount are retail investors. This shows clearly that the general public is interested in this way of investing.

The biggest group of investors of equity crowdfunding in Malaysia is between the 35-45-year-old. They tend to be the people who have enough income to put some aside for investment. Also, they are in the generation where they still are to some extent familiar and comfortable with technology.

After 2017, we saw a decrease in the performance of this industry. The total amount that was raised dropped from 24 million to 15 million and the number of campaigns dropped from 22 to 14. PitchIN owned a 75% market share as they were the most active ones.

If we take a look on cases carried out o PitchIN’s platform, we can highlight some of the most successful campaigns. Commerce.Asian Fundaztic and QEOS LED are good examples. They all clocked in at MYR 3 million. In the case of Fundaztic, it only took 38 minutes to close the round.

Platforms’ market share ( updated March 2019)

PitchIN continues to dominate the market. Currently, more than half of the funds are still raised through their platform.

Ata Plus is moving up since 2017. They made huge improvement regarding their market share. Together with crowdplus.asia they are lining up behind PitchIN.

Meanwhile, players like Eureeca have not seen any activity. Fundnel being the newest entrant have not had any campaigns at the time that the data was compiled.

The other players like Eureeca and Fundnel are showing no activity. Until now, Fundnel did not manage to obtain any market share.

Sebelum ini, kami pernah keluarkan senarai gaji pengarah-pengarah syarikat yang tersenarai dalam FBM KLCI. Ada yang bergaji berpuluh ribu sebulan, sehingga berbelas juta sebulan pun ada. Boleh rujuk Berapa Agaknya Gaji Pengarah Syarikat Top 30 Di Malaysia? Tapi mesti ramai yang nak tahu berapa gaji pengarah bagi GLC seperti Kumpulan Wang Simpanan Pekerja (KWSP), Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB), Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (LTAT), Khazanah Nasional dan yang lain kan? Tapi sebelum itu, fahamkan dulu definisi Syarikat Berkaitan Kerajaan (GLC) terlebih dahulu. “GLC merupakan entiti berdaftar yang menjalankan aktiviti komersil mewakili kerajaan. Ia ditakrif sebagai syarikat pelaburan berkaitan Kerajaan Persekutuan, yang memperuntuk sebahagian atau semua dananya kepada pelaburan GLC. Ditakrif mengikut pengaruh Kerajaan Persekutuan dalam; melantik/melulus anggota Lembaga dan pengurusan atasan, dan menetapkan supaya individu ini melapor terus kepada Kerajaan, selain Kerajaan menawarkan dana untuk operasi dan/atau menjamin modal (dan sedikit pendapatan) yang diletakkan oleh pemegang unit.” Sumber: Wikipedia Sekarang dah tahu maksud Syarikat Berkaitan Kerajaan (GLC), jom kita tengok pula gaji pengarah GLC ini pula. Senarai 15 syarikat ini diambil daripada sumber Wikipedia. 1. Axiata Group Ada yang pakai line Celcom tak untuk telefon pintar? Atau guna aplikasi Boost sebagai e-dompet pilihan dan untuk mengumpul mata ganjaran? Ya, Axiata Group adalah pemilik kedua-dua jenama ini dan banyak lagi. Kalau nak tahu, Ahli Lembaga Pengarah Axiata mengumumkan bahawa mereka tidak akan mendedahkan nama pihak pengurusan beserta dengan gaji yang mereka terima. Sumber: Integrated Annual Report 2018 Apa yang diketahui adalah, Chairman (Pengerusi) menerima bayaran sebanyak RM30,000 sebulan manakala Pengarah pula menerima RM20,000 sebulan. 2. BIMB Holdings BIMB Holdings adalah pemilik Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad, Syarikat Takaful Malaysia Keluarga Berhad dan BIMB Securities Sdn Bhd. Mereka juga memiliki sebahagian daripada Tabung Haji, KWSP, PNB dan ASB. Sumber: Integrated Annual Report 2019 Pendapatan Tertinggi: Noraini Che Dan – RM738,407 setahun atau RM61,534 sebulan 3. IHH Healthcare IHH Healthcare merupakan pemilik Parkway Pantai yang memiliki Pantai Hospital di Malaysia. Mereka juga mempunyai International Medical University di Bukit Jalil. Sumber: Annual Report 2018 Pendapatan Tertinggi: Dr Tan See Leng – RM36,175,000 setahun atau RM3,014,583 sebulan 4. Johor Corporation Kecil sangat rasanya, untuk gambar penuh boleh tengok di sini. Nama-nama besar seperti KPJ yang memiliki Hospital KPJ, QSR Brands yang memiliki KFC dan Pizza Hut dan banyak lagi adalah di bawah Johor Corporation. Sumber: Annual Report 2018 Tidak diberitahu secara spesifik mengenai jawatan dan gaji bagi pengarah Johor Corporation. Namun Pengarah Eksekutif mempunyai pendapatan sebanyak RM2.737 juta setahun atau RM228,083 sebulan. Berapa orang pengarah Eksekutif tidak dapat dipastikan. Manakala pendapatan bagi pihak pengurusan kanan pula adalah sebanyak RM39.671 juta setahun atau RM3.14 juta sebulan. Juga tidak diketahui berapa orang dan siapa individu yang mempunyai pendapatan tertinggi. 5. Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTMB) Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad merupakan pengendali kereta api utama di Semenanjung Malaysia. Sejarah KTMB bermula sejak era zaman penjajahan British lagi, ketika laluan kereta api dibina bagi mengangkut tin dari lombong ke pelabuhan. Tapi sekarang kita dah ada Electric Train Services (ETS), Komuter dan KTM Kargo. Khazanah Nasional Khazanah Nasional Berhad ialah syarikat induk cabang pelaburan kerajaan Malaysia yang diamanahkan dengan meningkatkan kekayaan jangka panjang bangsa melalui objektif komersial dan strategik yang berbeza. Sumber: The Khazanah Report 2017 Di antara nama-nama besar syarikat yang dimiliki Khazanah Nasional adalah CIMB Group, Tenaga Nasional Bhd, Telekom Malaysia Bhd, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd, Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd, IHH Healthcare Bhd, UEM Group Bhd dan banyak lagi. Sumber: Financial Statements 2018 Pengarah Eksekutif Khazanah Nasional menerima RM8.5 juta setahun atau RM708,333 sebulan. Berapa ramai bilangan Pengarah Eksekutif dan pecahannya tidak diberitahu secara spesifik. Manakala kakitangan kanan pihak pengurusan menerima sebanyak RM55.559 juta setahun atau RM4.629 juta sebulan. Berapa ramai oang dan pecahannya tidak diberitahu secara spesifik. 7. Kumpulan Wang Simpanan Pekerja (KWSP) Kumpulan Wang Simpanan Pekerja (KWSP) merupakan antara tabung simpanan persaraan tertua dan yang terbesar di dunia. Pekerja swasta di Malaysia, pastinya mencarum sebahagian daripada gaji ke dalam KWSP. Sumber: Laporan Tahunan 2018 Dan untuk rekod, KWSP membayar sebanyak RM1.851 juta setahun atau RM154,320 sebulan untuk Ahli Lembaga Pengarah. Berapa ramai dan pecahannya tidak diberitahu secara spesifik. Manakala CEO dan timbalan-timbalan CEO pula menerima sebanyak RM6.047 juta setahun atau RM503,952 sebulan. Pecahan secara spesifik tidak diketahui. 8. Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (LTAT) LTAT merupakan tabung amanah dengan tanggungjawab asasnya untuk menguruskan kumpulan wang dan harta pencarum dengan cara paling cekap untuk mendapatkan pulangan yang sebaik-baiknya dan memastikan supaya nilai kumpulan wang dan harta ini terpelihara. Affin Bank dan BH Petrol adalah dua syarikat terkemuka milik LTAT ini. Sumber: Annual Report 2017 Pengarah LTAT memperolehi pendapatan sebanyak RM18.458 juta setahun atau RM1.538 juta sebulan. Berapa ramai bilangannya dan pecahan pendapatan tidak diberitahu secara spesifik. 9. Malaysia Airlines (MAS) Macam-macam jenama di bawah MAS yang ada, ingatkan pengangkutan kapal terbang iaitu MAS dan Firefly saja. Namun carian Laporan Tahunan atau Annual Report bagi MAS tidak ditemui. Sebaliknya laporan tahunan bagi Malaysia Airport Holdings Behad (MAHB) yang tersenarai di Bursa Malaysia adalah seperti berikut. Sumber: Annual Report 2019 Pendapatan Tertinggi: Rosli Abdullah – RM448,006 setahun atau RM37,333 sebulan. 10. Menteri Kewangan Diperbadankan Menteri Kewangan (Diperbadankan) (singkatan: MoF (Inc.)) ialah pertubuhan perbadanan dengan nama Menteri Kewangan berpusat di Malaysia. Ditubuhkan di bawah Akta Menteri Kewangan (Diperbadankan) 1957, Akta ini memberi kewenangan kepada MoF (Inc.) untuk mengadakan kontrak, pemerolehan, pembelian, harta benda, pegangan dan mengekalkan aset ketara dan tidak ketara. Carian laporan tahunan bagi Menteri Kewangan (Diperbadankan) gagal menemui apa-apa. Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) Siapa yang tak kenal PNB ni kan? Kita mesti pernah melabur ke dalam ASB, ASB Didik, ASM atau ASN. Kini PNB mengurus lebih daripada RM300 bilion dana rakyat Malaysia. Sumber: PNB Annual Report 2019 Dalam Laporan Tahunan PNB, mereka hanya mengeluarkan Financial Statement seperti di atas. Tiada breakdown yang terperinci mengenai gaji dan sebagainya. 12. Petronas Petronas merupakan syarikat kebanggaan oil & gas negara Malaysia yang dikenali serata dunia. Terdapat 3 syarikat Petronas yang disenaraikan di Bursa Malaysia: Petronas Chemicals, Petronas Gas dan Petronas Dagangan. Sumber: Petronas Annual Report 2018 Tidak diberitahu secara spesifik mengenai pendapatan ahli lembaga pengarah Petronas, cuma diberitahu bahawa sebanyak RM30 juta telah dibelanjakan untuk fi, emolumen dan imbuhan (fees, emoluments and remuneration) bagi tahun 2018. Namun 3 syarikat milik Petronas yang lain adalah seperti berikut: 1. Petronas Chemicals Sumber: ​Corporate Governance Report 2018 Pendapatan Tertinggi: Datuk Md Arif Mahmood – RM312,500 setahun atau RM26,041 sebulan 2. Petronas Gas Sumber: PGB Corporate Governance Report 2018 Pendapatan Tertinggi: Datuk Mohd Anuar Taib – RM309,000 setahun atau RM25,750 sebulan 3. Petronas Dagangan Sumber: Integrated Report 2018 Tidak diberitahu secara spesifik siapa yang memperolehi pendapatan tertinggi, sekadar kita tahu Pengerusi mendapat bayaran sebanyak RM24,000 sebulan, manakala Ahli Lembaga Pengarah yang lain mendapat RM12,000 sebulan. 13. Tabung Haji (TH) Tabung Haji (TH) ialah singkatan bagi Lembaga Tabung Haji yang berperanan untuk menguruskan perjalanan jemaah haji dari Malaysia pergi ke Mekah pada setiap tahun. Sumber: TH Annual Report 2017 Tabung Haji juga tidak memberitahu secara terperinci mengenai pendapatan pengarah mereka. Cuma diberitahu bahawa RM622,000 dibelanjakan untuk fi dan emolumen Pengarah, manakala RM28.2 juta bagi kakitangan kanan TH sepanjang tahun 2017. 14. Telekom Malaysia (TM) Kalau dulu kita menggunakan perkhidmatan fixed line bagi telefon di rumah dan pejabat, sekarang kita beralih pula kepada unifi bagi perkhidmatan internet yang laju di seluruh Malaysia. Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) TNB ialah sebuah syarikat bekalan tenaga elektrik Malaysia, yang beribu pejabat di Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur.
