Another link to this post. Meet the parents style.
So, Danny and Jason have been fake dating for a while now, and ended up marrying each other solely for tax benefits. Also, they got cool ass fucking friendship rings that they just couldn't not wear everywhere and being married is convenient so...
Anywho, so Jason has met Danny's parents but Danny hasn't met Jason's parents. Danny knows that he has some ties with the vigilantee scene due to being a Crime Lord-he still doesn't know what to think of his parents connecting the dots immediately when they only met him once while it took him more than that while living with the guy.
He thinks Jason may have been an ex-vigilantee at some point before turning to crime.
Then Danny gets blinded by rich people aura when he finds out that his bestfriend is the long thought dead child of Bruce Wayne. Frankly, he's insulted.
You mean to tell him that his could've been buying ice cream from that high class place all this time!? He shook (literally he grabbed and shook him) that point into Jason, he doesn't care that Jason never told him he was rich but he could've at least bought some high class ice cream once in a while.
Jason who was busy solidifying his power as a crime lord, avoiding his family and making sure not to leak his identity at all: I'm a literal crime lord, and the only thing you care about is me not buying you ice cream?
Danny: YES!!!!
Jason: Dork.
Right anyways, so Jason takes Danny along to meet Bruce and his fam but did say as soon as he started being uncomfortable they're leaving. The batfam is a bit blindsided by Danny, because they thought Jason was bringing his partner but its good to also get a feel for Danny's personality.
Danny and Jason did what's normal for them when Danny starts getting comfortable around the manor full of things that cost waaay more than his rent. Like half-heartedly insulting each other, being snarky, leaning on each other and other such things.
The batfam start thinking that there's more there than they know of. So they start watching a bit closer and ask a few round about questions that fly over Danny and Jason's heads. They just forget they're married often, unless it's regarding taxes.
All of this sends the wrong message when they walk into the same room and, being nosy, one of the batfam comes up to the door and uh. They hear the bed moving quite a lot.
So.
Meanwhile, Jason is trying to wrestle with Danny because this man does not pick a lane. He'll either be the human octopus (who is cold as hell) Jason has ever seen, he'll try to kick him off the bed in his sleep as if Jason personally offended him in some way, or he'll sleep in some wacky position that interrupts Jason's sleep. The last one is tied to the other two, however.
So, Jason has to frequently wrestle this man into a proper position where they both manage to get some sleep and it wouldn't have been so bad if Danny wasn't a goddamn sleep fighter. He would know, he had to nurse a bruised jaw for a few weeks.
Why do they sleep together? Listen, when you're in an apartment with not a lot of money, you gotta cut costs where you can alright?

a little blurb for the same age brutim au!
----
tim does not allow dick to get kicked out nor does he allow him to move out prior to 18 years of age. so the whole dick comes home and finds jason and - it just doesn't happen. tim does believe that both of his batboys need space- from each other cause they seem to battle bruce for affection- so he buys a penthouse and gifts it to dick in secret.
how many secrets can tim keep from bruce? well if hes correct, at least three. especially since he throws his ip everywhere when ever he plans to do something that bruce would hate.
the penthouse isn't meant to be any kind of secret!! tim swears up and down!! it's just ... if you don't ask, tim won't tell.
which is how one day bruce comes to him and wholeheartedly in his special little way, hnns his way in showing concern.
"yes bruce?"
"hnn..." and then he stops and thinks and whispers out a soft, "dick?"
to which tim replies, "probably at the penthouse my dear."
...
hindsight is 20/20 cause why the fuck is tim seeing bruce dressed as batman swinging through the night on the cameras looking for dick's shadow in any of the top penthouses. alfred peers at the cameras and in his wise all knowing voice says, "perhaps you should inform master bruce that dick is in the penthouse that resides in star city? with his boyfriend roy, as well."
tim reluctantly agrees which gets bruce to come home albeit upset he didn't realise the two were dating.
---
anyway thats all i have 🤒🤒 i hope u enjoyeddd

Joker 2 is not about its fandom. At least not on purpose.
I agree with many of the criticisms leveled at Joker 2, and I almost didn’t bother writing this review since much of what I have to say echoes the general consensus. However, there’s one particular critique I’ve seen that I strongly disagree with: the idea that Joker 2 is a repudiation of the audience that connected with the first movie.
Many have argued that the sequel turns against those who found resonance in Arthur Fleck’s transformation into the Joker, especially as the character became a symbol in real-world political protests, much like the Guy Fawkes mask from V for Vendetta was co-opted by Anonymous. But I believe this interpretation misses a key point that aligns with the themes of the original film.
The film becomes more engaging towards the end, particularly when Arthur’s followers reject him once he rejects the Joker persona. Some argue that this mirrors the way audiences connected with the first movie, using the Joker persona as a symbol during protests. However, this rejection of Arthur is consistent with the character’s portrayal in Joker (2019). Society didn’t care about Arthur as a person—an isolated, mentally ill individual—until he accidentally became a figurehead for a movement he never believed in. His followers, like society, only care about the Joker as a symbol, something they can project their own ideas onto.
While I don’t think Joker 2 is a strong film overall—it’s messy, and at best deserves a 2/5 rating—I do think it captures this idea well. It continues the theme that society values icons and symbols over real, complex individuals, much as the first film did.
Unfortunately, the first two-thirds of the film are a slog. The musical numbers, for example, add nothing of substance and slow the film to a crawl. I typically enjoy musicals, but Joaquin Phoenix is a poor singer, and the songs don’t advance the plot like they should in a good musical. Instead, they feel like pointless interludes. In the best musicals, songs are integral to storytelling, not interruptions.
The connections to Batman mythology, which were subtle but effective in the first Joker, feel more forced and distracting in this film. In Joker (2019), Gotham felt like Gotham, and there were enough subtle nods to Batman’s lore to justify the film's title. Here, however, it feels as though someone simply took an original screenplay and used a Find and Replace tool to rename elements: Arkham Asylum, Harvey Dent—they feel shoehorned in. Especially jarring is the fact that we're supposed to believe a character's Christian name is Harley Quinn (harlequin, get it?) in what is meant to be a world that is so grounded, I can't buy Bruce Wayne ever even grows up to be Batman in this continuity.
In the first film, even though Arthur Fleck’s story was largely inspired by Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy, it still included some elements from The Killing Joke and The Dark Knight Returns, giving it a legitimate connection to the Batman universe. The riot at the end, leading to the deaths of Thomas and Martha Wayne, was a clever tie-in to Batman’s origin, even if it required some suspension of disbelief regarding the age difference between Bruce Wayne and this version of the Joker.
Joker 2 is ultimately a confused film that doesn’t know what it wants to say for much of its runtime. While it offers some interesting thematic continuity regarding society’s elevation of fictional personas over real people, it’s bogged down by poor pacing, weak musical numbers, and forced connections to Batman lore. While I’m glad I saw it for the final third, which genuinely resonated with me, I can’t recommend it to a general audience.

batgirl 2000 reread pt 2!!!
Back 2 batgirl..Cass has to have some of the worst daddy issues in the whole family and that's saying so much like between Bruce and Cain she deserves billions of dollars in compensation for all the all the way fucked up and over shit they put her through that she doesn't even have the capacity to work through yet
Tumblr media
also this little interaction made me smile, average bat conversation
Tumblr media
obsessed w how they integrate cass into the Bruce wayne: murderer storyline. We're operating fully from cass's perspective here and the whole thing is formatted like any other case she's taken on. we get exposition as cass investigates but there's a feeling of uneasiness as she paces the manor. she fully doesn't know who this guy is but we do. we do.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
truly one of the most iconic ways anyones ever figured out his identity. she knows him so deeply that she's able to recognize the pure unbridled determination and fury in his eyes just from a picture
Cassandra cain truly stays unmatched, the "I'll kill you" "not tonight" panel hits just as hard as when I first read it. I need a physical copy of this shit NEOWWW. also cass's ability to recognize that Shiva is just as suicidal as she is, that in fighting each other their both fulfilling the others death wish..like we know she isn't going to kill her from the start but it makes the decision all the more powerful
EEEK she's so cutest patootest..she's a detective
Tumblr media Tumblr media
cass if projecting onto every case she dealt with was a job..
Tumblr media
srsly tho the whole alpha arc thing was sooo good especially when it came to cass's immovable belief that even people with the most diabolical histories are capable of change, are worth saving
ermmm..the lawyers are advising me not to discuss the stephcass drama issue at this current time..thank you
idk how I missed the political commentary the first time but issue 43 got it. FAWK AMERICA
I love this comic I LOVE THIS COMIC!!! I love love love when Cass has a conversation that leads her to experiment which leads her to self discovery. oh my god. truly baffled and disgusted as she discovers gender roles, she just like me fr
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THIS^^^^^^ is so, it's such a good way of broadcasting cass's insecurities and emotions to the audience. unlike a lot of characters cass rarely ever says what she's feeling, even when asked she'll often lie. it's either that or a lack of self awareness/means of communication when it comes to her own emotions. BUT this also shows that cass is aware of the complex interpersonal dynamics and drama around her. Usually these things are just implied like when Cass wordlessly punches the shit out of dick for making babs cry, but this is one of the first times in the comic where these things that cass had been feeling and hearing are told instead of shown [which is pretty 50/50 considering the kinda jarring writer switch but I think this specifically was a cool choice]
Cass has a tendency to avoid emotional topics centered around her all together but at the climax of this arc she's forced to confront very conflicting views of her identity, social pressures, and her own insecurities.
this part got to me BAD
Tumblr media
Cass's pure and utter devastation in response to Bruce attempting to fire her (I say attempt bcs that shit barely lasted a day) is so gutwrenching. batgirl was the first name she ever had, the first identity as a human being she'd ever had. Not to mention her suicidal-perfectionism. For Batman of all people to say those things to her, not only does she not have anything outside of batgirl (partially BECAUSE of him) but she's literally as close to perfect as it gets, matter a fact bruce literally calls her perfect. To be accused of jeopardizing the mission, despite that she might be the only person who values it just as much as bruce does..No wonder she shatters into a billion pieces when he does that to her. she has nothing else to be if she's not batgirl.

Chapter 42
Chapter 42
The black car pulled up in front of the rowhouse, the bustling streets of Spain City surrounding them. Maggie, Wayne, Francisco, Aleister, and Gwyneth stepped out. The rowhouse was an unassuming building, blending in with the others on the block, but its history with Aleister made it stand out in his mind.
As they approached the entrance, Aleister took a deep breath, bracing himself for the encounter with his ex-girlfriend, The Duchess. He knocked on the door, and a few moments later, it swung open to reveal The Duchess herself. She was as alluring and mysterious as ever, her dark hair curling over her shoulders, and her eyes shimmering like pools of endless depths. She moved gracefully, like a cat stalking its prey, and her slender figure added to her air of mystique.
"Well, well, well, look who decided to grace me with their presence," The Duchess purred, her voice dripping with an enticing charm that could draw anyone in. "Aleister Fawkes, back in Spain City after all this time."
Aleister gave her a wry smile. "You knew I couldn't stay away forever, Ona. Actually, I need your help."
Ona raised an eyebrow, her expression becoming slightly guarded. "Help? From me? I thought you were the one with all the connections and power. What could you possibly need from someone like me?"
Gwyneth stepped forward, her fiery aura radiating authority. "We heard you lost control of the Gat Boys. We need a place to lay low for a while, and we were hoping you could help us. If you can't, we'll be on our way."
The Duchess let out a sigh, her facade of confidence slipping for a moment. "You heard right. I don't have the influence I used to. The Gat Boys have become unruly, and I can't shelter anyone anymore."
Aleister's cool demeanor didn't waver, but concern flickered in his eyes. "Is there any way you can still help us, even if you can't offer us protection?"
The Duchess looked at him, her gaze softening just a fraction. "I may not have control over the gang anymore, but I still have some resources. I can point you in the right direction. But I can't guarantee your safety."
Maggie stepped forward. "That's all we need, Duchess. Any information you can provide will be invaluable."
The Duchess nodded, a hint of a frown tugging at her lips. "Very well, then. Come inside, and we'll talk. But remember, in Spain City, you're on your own."
The five of them filed into the rowhouse. It was filled with antique furniture, calling to mind simpler times. The moment that the door was closed behind them, a man armed with a zwei stepped into the room. He leveled the rifle at Aleister. Gwyneth's eyes narrowed.
"Damn it," said Aleister. "They knew we were coming." The Duchess looked to her former lover pleadingly. Francisco cursed under his breath.
"I'm Kid Cool," said the stern young man in the slacks with the zwei in his hands. His dirty blond hair was slicked back. "You guys are under gangster arrest."
Another pair of men entered the room, armed with bells, from atop the staircase. Aleister's eyes darted around beneath his sunglasses. "You can't kill me."
Kid Cool chuckled. "Why's that? You think you're still a big shot around here, Alley? You ain't made anymore." He pressed the rifle into the Duchess' back. He fired.
As Aleister's face twisted, Ona slumped onto the floor. Kid Cool knelt down and picked her up by her luxurious hair, kissing her deeply. He looked Aleister in the eyes and shot her again. "You just fucked up," said Fawkes.
"How's that, exactly?," Kid Cool asked him. Aleister flicked a knife out from under his sleeve; and expertly sent it spinning towards Kid Cool's eye while he was caught off-guard. The two men on the stairs opened fire.
Francisco dove forward, rolling towards the screaming Kid Cool, who had a knife stuck in his eyeball. Within an instant Wolf had Kid Cool's zwei, and with it he opened fire on the well-dressed gangsters on the stairs. They fell down the stairs, dead as door-nails. Wayne stood there stunned while the gun-smoke cleared. There were bullet holes everywhere in the floor, but, bizarrely, Maggie was the only one who was hit. And she took a shot to the brain. Gwyneth cradled Maggie; who twitched and spasmed.
"She's . . . she's dead," muttered the tearful Gwyneth. "Aleister, she's fucking dead." Her fiery eyes met his.
"Where'd Kid go?," asked Aleister of no one in particular. Somehow, the gangster had escaped in the confusion. "Damn it. Fuck. I'm sorry, Gwyn," he added as an afterthought. Tears streamed down Gwyneth's face.
"We have to get out of here," said Wayne.
"Next time," said Francisco, "we hit up my friends." The three men made for the door. Aleister stopped before he headed outside. Gwyneth was still holding Maggie.
Gwyneth looked at Fawkes. "Get out! Go away!"
"There's no time, Gwyn," insisted Aleister. "Leave her. Get up. Get up now. We have no more time."
Gwyneth stood, her clothes soaked in blood. She lumbered towards the open door, crying profusely.

First of all, if you did start a Tumblr book club it would be AWESOME. Second, after reading your thoughts I feel like I need to reread the book with a new perspective.
I definitely went into this book with the wrong expectation of what it was going to be like. I was expecting something more like Wayne Batson's Dreamtreaders from the synopsis (which are awesome if you haven't read them), and this was...not that. I'm a big fan of a countdown element, but this felt like a more ineffectual version of the stone plague in Fawkes, which is one of my favorite books of all time. Whereas in Fawkes the stone plague feels like impending doom, by the time things get super serious and there's actual danger at the end of this book, you've learned that none of the characters can die. Well, technically can, but they repeatedly don't. It just doesn't have the same impact.
As soon as Cain was with the Adelphoi, suddenly the plot felt very convenient. Any time there was conflict, it was easily solved because they had faith. I get the message, but it simply isn't interesting to read.
I do agree that the symbolism was really good. I just felt it could have been utilized better, but like I said, I do feel like I need to read it again with different expectations for the story it's trying to tell.
Crixus was definitely the most interesting character. I feel like some Christian fiction tends to lean very black-and-white with characterization, so it felt refreshing to read about a character whose motivations were so nuanced. I didn't really find any of the other characters as memorable as those in Nadine Brandes' other books.
I'm really glad a lot of people loved this book more than I did, and I'll still continue to read anything Nadine Brandes writes. Hearing your thoughts does make me more willing to give this one a second chance.
Just finished reading Nadine Brandes' new(ish) book, "The Nightmare Virus" and it was AWESOME
