Favourite LS Fandom Memories

This is such a sweet game that @thisbuildinghasfeelings came up with! Thanks also to @strandnreyes and @welcometololaland for the tags (Lola, I’m assuming that was a tag and if not, just lie and tell me it was).

Here’s 5 favourite things:

1. That time I started thinking about the legalities of Carlos putting TK on the deed to the loft

I was doing my skincare late at night, started pondering, and ended up reading both the Texan standard sale of property contract and the Texan Property Law Act at midnight, then I woke up to a very lengthy fandom discussion about how it might have happened. Even better was that this discussion spawned a debate about the ownership of Schitt’s Creek and how that could possibly have worked elsewhere.

Which brings me to my next favourite thing:

2. The fandom Venn Diagrams

I was drawn into LS because @clottedcreamfudge kept sending me the Butt Bounce™️ gif (you know the ones, from 1x02) and then @three-drink-amy shared the proposal and I was sold. I’d already seen a lot about the gay howdy wee woo show a bunch of mutuals were watching so it wasn’t a hard sell.

The overlapping fandoms delight me though! I love seeing people from one fandom start with liking gif sets and then they start rb them and then I see them pop up in my ao3 emails so much. I love being told that I’ve posted so many Tarlos gifs that someone started watching just to see what it’s about. I especially loved those of you who tried so hard to resist the inevitable, only to end up creating gif sets and writing fics.

I love it so much because that was me too, desperately trying not to fall too hard into a third fandom 😅

3. Beta reading

I’ve had the privilege of getting to beta read, help plot and brainstorm some of the most (in my very objective opinion) iconic fics in the fandom and I loved doing it. Helping plot and brainstorm fics is actually my favourite part of writing and the fact that people are willing to hand their drafts over and trust me with their words means so much to me, whether it’s an epic AU, or someone’s first foray into writing for a new fandom. I still can’t believe that anyone let me beta read a sportsball AU, let alone three of them lol

4. The Soulmates Scene

5. The baseball day!!

Something about a fandom that, generally speaking does not seem to be interested in baseball, collectively following the World Series and (in my case) learning how to read game stats was just so fun!

You know for a long time I was trying to figure out why Bleach fanfics always make it seem like the souls in the soul society don't remember their human lives when we literally have evidence that they do (Yuichi the Parrot).

Apparently, this was actually pulled from the first bleach movie Memories of Nobody where Urahara tells Ichigo that it's exceedingly rare for a soul to remember its human life. The movie is non-canon though so, I'm not sure why ppl latched onto that fact.

It's honestly a pretty depressing idea, especially with how shitty life in Rukongai already is. It's not the same as being reincarnated, it's just being shoved into a terrible afterlife with no memory of how you even got there then you find out that you actually died and this is the afterlife but you don't even remember living your life at all. You don't remember the people you loved and cherished, you don't remember any dreams and aspirations you might have had. You're only a husk of what you might have been, living for however long you can until the people who were supposed to protect you end up slaughtering you like cattle for the sake of balance.

A necessary sacrifice was all you would end up being.

So yeah, souls having no memories of their human lives is a devastating idea and honestly, I could imagine it being a canon thing. I'm still loving the amnesia + time travel angst on Ao3 though, it's immaculate

MACK HEADCANONS PLZZZ

OF COURSE!!

mack is seriously one of my favourite side characters. i literally adore him SO much

- i think mack has like. 5 sisters. and hes the oldest and only boy of all of the siblings. this is a hc roe and i have had for a while, he just has such oldest brother of the family vibes but also like hes so gentle as if he grew up with sisters. i can imagine him, 17, the second oldest being somewhere around 11 or 12, and theyve convinced him to bake cupcakes with him. hes got his mothers pink apron on, hes doing all the work, while his sisters are hanging off of him and playing with their toys all over the kitchen floor. he couldnt bake for shit, but anything for his baby sisters

- adding onto above, i dont think he did too much in school. his mother worked two jobs and his father was away a lot on business trips, so he very willingly and very happily took care of his younger sisters 24/7. and im not saying his parents were neglectful - not at all. i think his parents worked hard to take them on trips and keep them afloat. the did family trips as many times a year as they had the chance to and their parents made sure the kids knew they were loved.

- AMAZING driver. hes been driving since he was young, and he can maneuver his hauler better than most other drivers. both his parents contributed to teaching him how to drive, and they both gave him their separate tips and tricks, so he is quite literally the collective bunch of his parents driving habits all in one.

- he left to work for rusteze as a truck driver when he was around 22/23, when the second oldest sibling was old enough to hold down the fort. a lot of his extra cash went to his family back home, but he stayed on the road.

- not too interested in relationships, he’s always been kind of held down and its nothing against his family but now he likes the freedom of home being on the road

- his truck (1985 mack superliner) was his grandfathers cab. he bought it brand new and never used it much, trucking ran in his family (even his father was a trucker before he met macks mother and settled down), so his grandfather gave him the cab for free as a gift one year and he’s used it and kept it in tip-top shape ever since

- lightning is like that little brother he never had. he found the kid at a truck stop, a distressed fifteen year old looking to get out of town (he was running away from home) and saved him from getting his shit rocked by some pissed off old guy because he’d asked for two dollars for chips and the guy took a personal offence to it. mack literally felt sick at the idea that this kid was out this far from the city alone. lightning had WALKED from henderson to vegas to see the race, and then just decided he wasnt going home. mack was so heartbroken because the thought of one of his sisters ever being in the situation that this kid is in right now made his stomach churn. the kid had begged to go with him, and mack felt so guilty he said yes. he initially tried to take the kid somewhere safe, like a home for kids or something, but lightning was quite content to stay, and it felt like having a little brother around and it was Different (mack checked the news every day for any missing child reports and Nobody reported lightning missing. it literally destroyed mack emotionally because How do u not report ur own child missing when he leaves and doesnt return.)

- his truck has bunk beds since its a sleeper cab and he let lightning decorate his bunk with posters and those glow in the dark stars and literally anything the kid wanted he could plaster on the walls and mack did not care. this also included a bunch of stickers, because oh Lord that boy is obsessed with little stickers

- mack had no idea how to bond with lightning considering he himself had grown up being forced to play barbies with his little sisters (they would try to make him be evil ken but then they’d get mad because he was too nice. he got to play as the dollhouse dog instead) whereas lightning grew up with Nothing. lightning didnt really know how to interact with toys without feeling ridiculous because he’d been conditioned to believe toys were for Babies. mack eventually gave up trying to guess what lightning liked and just took him to a toys r us, where lightning Immediately found a stuffed dinosaur he liked and got like 2 hot wheels cars and then proceeded to profusely apologize for wasting macks money on such stupid stuff. mack did not give af, as long as his little brother was happy he was ok

- he gave lightning his first ever hug. before that not a Single person had ever hugged that child and mack was so sad to learn it because how do parents go 15 years without ever hugging ur own flesh and blood

- he taught lightning how to drive in a field with the truck during break days, and realized the kid’s potential and signed him up for late model stock races after a bit of talking. rusty and dusty also took an interest in racing at this point, and allowed mack to carry the kids late model stock car in the truck (they figured out a way for him to get both product and the car in the truck, and conveniently every delivery was for the city lightnings next race was in)

- hes kept all of lightnings late model stock trophies, the kid was a real good winner even back then and he’s even got photos that photographers had taken of the wins when little 15 year old lightning mcqueen was standing on the roof of his car holding his trophy above his head with the biggest smile in the world plastered on his face (those wins were like the proudest big brother moments ever until he got into the piston cup)

- hes a MASSIVE harv hater but hes too nice to say it. when doc starts expressing his own dislike for harv, mack starts talking to him about it and they bond over the fact they hate that man so fucking much that they end up managing to get him fired

- during the piston cup off season he goes back to delivering product for rusteze

- even though lightnings older now he still sees him as a younger brother

Favourite Lone Star Fandom Memories

Oh boy where to begin! I have so many good memories of this show! Watching it, being in the fandom, reading fics & so much more!

1. How Tarlos & Lone Star was the first time I think I truly started to be so involved in fandom

So there are a lot of books & TV shows/movies that I had read/watched before Lone Star. And a few months before I knew about Lone Star, I read Red, White & Royal Blue. RWRB is what brought me back to Tumblr after like 5 years & also what got me reading fics again after almost 10 years. I started engaging in fandom because of that. And it is through some of the mutuals from RWRB fandom that I got introduced to Tarlos (more on that below). Now back to my point- although I had started engaging in fandom through RWRB, it was after starting Lone Star that I truly deeply started engaging in fandom as a whole. Interacting with other fellow fans, reading & commenting on fics, being a part of post-episode analysis & discussion about what happened, encouraging (more like pestering lol 😂) my bestie (I was also the one who introduced her & some of my other friends to RWRB around the same time) to watch it is something that I hadn't done to a great extent in any of the previous fandoms.

2. TARLOS

So after Push aired, I started seeing gifs of the "breath baby breath" scene & that is how I got introduced to this fandom. I was like who are these guys? What is going on? And then I saw a few YouTube clips of that scene & I was like ok I'm watching this show. And truly the story of Tarlos is so beautiful! I love that there is no cheating/love triangle drama. Because I've seen that in some of my older fandoms & I just love how they didn't show that with these two you know?

3. The cast

The cast is so incredibly talented! I love the way they portray the characters! Prior to watching Lone Star, the only cast member I had seen in the stuff I had watched was Rob Lowe in Holiday in the Wild & in Parks & Rec. But now there's this whole group of people that I would love to watch anything else that they star in!

4. Live watching

Season 5 was the first season that I truly watched live. Before that, season 3 & 4 I would watch on Disney+ an hour after it aired as that is when the new episodes would become available on Disney+ in the country where I was at that time. So truly live watching has been so much fun! Getting to see what happens & reacting to it in real time, reading other people's reactions has been amazing!

5. Fics

The fics! Need I say more? The fics I've read in his fandom have been so amazing, incredible & brilliant! And the number of times I've re-read some of the fics!

6. My favorite episodes & specific moments from them

Watching & rewatching some of the episodes because I just love the things that happened in them! The soulmate scene has to be one of my top favs because the way it altered my brain chemistry! The Tarlos wedding vows, the proposal, bad call, saving grace, the police station scene from 1x03, the hospital scene from 1x08, PUSH, riddle of the sphynx, Lou 1 & Lou 2, Marjan & Joe's wedding and so many more!

I absolutely loved doing this so much!

Hello! I love the way you always describe the relationship between Sally and Lightning , so here’s an ask about them?

Even after the events of Cars 3, I feel that she still dealt with the trauma of Mcqueen’s crash.

Do you think it bought back memories of losing other loved ones like Doc?

How do you think they helped each other during this difficult time?

i think sallys ocd got way worse after his crash. her medication just became a dampener for the compulsions and she felt kind of helpless because usually doc would be there to help figure out a solution.

she also became increasingly paranoid — pressing her head against his chest and falling asleep to the sound of his heartbeat — or waking up in a cold sweat and pressing two fingers against his pulse point in his neck, or even putting her hand on his stomach to ensure it was still rising and falling with every breath.

lightning, on the other hand, got his nightmares back. sally couldnt really fix those this time around.

they would help each other cope, though. being in each others arms helped a lot, she’d fall asleep clinging to him like a lifeline and he’d fall asleep better if she was holding onto him as tightly as possible. some nights, when one of them couldnt sleep, they’d both stay up and cuddle on the couch — her laying on top of him, her head in his neck — and they’d watch tv, or listen to music, or quietly chat about their days or whatever was making them unable to sleep. this became such a major sense of comfort for the two of them that it was almost like tradition.

sally started showing lightning her hobbies, like teaching him how to bake things he Hadnt before, or talking to him about her law career. he started telling her about his other interests and stories from his early days of racing. they found comfort in one anothers chats.

they talked about IT a lot though, what his injuries meant, how the permanent nerve damage he suffered would change his driving style, and although she was concerned about the idea of him going back, she wanted her old lightning back. shes the old who started encouraging him to go back for the Fireball 500, to give it a shot at least once, and they had long, LONG conversations about communication with one another during the race. she got access to a microphone, and she was on channel two just in case.

shes always been his biggest supporter, and she’ll never force him to stop racing because she loves him and his passions, but his job becomes much more of a conversational topic
