The secret to good school is good funding. One day, I dream of a world where all schools have options for their children. Personally, I think it's pretty important for that sort of thing to start out early. See if you're actually into that think BEFORE you're 100k in debt and hating your life.

My area has some awesome architecture. One time, I wanted to do a project on it, and my teacher said it was too complicated. I cried, like genuinely left that class, found a place to sit down, and just cried. The buildings were pretty, and I wanted to talk about them. I really do love the amount of thought put into those buildings. The people who made them are dead, but their art is still there. A bunch of dudes 100 years ago sat down and designed this theater. Then more came in and built it. And here I am, sitting there.

Architecture is so awesome in the way that it's interactive. It can survive longer than any human.

also sameee my city has a lot of old architecture (especially my school. some of the buildings are falling apart but they're very old and very pretty) and im like just in awe of it like architecture is an art but it's more than an art because unlike a lot of art it's not just something to look at it's somewhere someone lives or works or goes with friends and makes memories like a lot of art doesnt have a practical function but architecture does and it serves as a setting for so much of people's lives and that's really impactful and so awesome because there's architecture everywhere and it's all so beautiful *dreamy sigh*

also sucks that ur teacher sucked i hate when teachers/profs won't let you do projects on what ur passionate abt like passion is the basis of learning why aren't u supporting that....

ok im ngl it is literally my favorite manga of all time.

like ive read it front to back several times. its one of those pieces of media where the story is so good that i literally have no complaints like its genuinely a perfect work of art imo. it is absolutely that good.

Its definitely weird and not for everybody, I wouldn't recommend it if you're squeamish about violence because it's very violent and bloody and can get pretty gross. but its also super unserious and its actually really funny. the characters are lovable and without spoiling one of my favorite things about it is that there isn't really a good vs bad in it bc all the characters fall somewhere in between. they all have their own motivations and their stories are all intertwined and compelling.

the story is simultaneously sprawling, involving many different characters and their complicated motive, while also being tightly contained in the world it exists in. the world building is also some of the best i've ever seen its truly excellent. everything matters to everything else in the story and it is so well done.

idk if i can relate it to many other works because it kind of exists in its own genre. ive seen people call it seinen which i get because its mature in themes and storytelling, shonen which is definitely wrong??? i was confused af when i saw somebody call it that lmao, horror-comedy which i think is pretty close? its a mystery but it doesnt always feel like a mystery, theres no detective although its plot is driven by mystery. honestly idk. its really unique and i dont think that any other popular media matches its freak tbh.

it might be too weird to become super mainstream, even though its well known and loved. its plot is winding and weird, the main character has a lizard head, its set in an intentionally grimy world and actually looks like it. the characters arent cutesyfied, theyre mostly huge and bulky and gritty but they are so lovably human.

personally i love the art style i think it perfectly fits the world that it is meant to portray. the anime also does a fantastic job adapting it, though it did take me a minute to get used to the 3d models, it is a gorgeous anime like genuinely it is so beautiful like they cooked so hard.

ok holy shit this is so long sorry! i just really love it that much lmao. as for whether or not you should watch it - YES! (if it wasnt obvious) but don't sweat it if its not your cup of tea. i recommend it to all my friends and some of them couldnt get through it because of the violence, the art, or because its just too weird/not their thing. while i think theyre totally missing out, i understand that not everyone is like me and instantly loved it from the first chapter because the 1st tim i read it literally read the first 80 chapters in a day i was so crazy about it and finished it like 2 days later (the whole thing is like ~180 chapters i think? idk the exact count)

also if you're worried about the anime's art... you like blue lock and if you were able to get thru the s1 animation you will be fine. its way way better animated trust me.

If I could even share a shred of skill of the artists behind the pages I would die happy. They know how to build characters uniquely and distinctly in their style AND incorporate fun shapes and colors it's just all around *chefs kiss*

I’ve heard great things about this fic, was even thinking about reading it on my trip but I ended up taking a break from fandom too 🤣 I’m a bit hesitant to declare this or that ship as popular/non-popular bc perception is often deceiving - my Tumblr bubble talks a lot about some rare pairs that are not necessarily popular on AO3 (like Harry/Teddy, here’s a specific list if anyone’s interested) while other ships are not as popular here but have over 1k fics (like Harry/Pansy). 20. how often do you get art block?

all the time 🥰 it's like clockwork lol sometimes i get sooo frustrated and cranky bc i hate all my art and i'm like "woe is me!! i've lost all my skills!! i'll never draw again!!" and then i'm like wait . i know what's happening here. i just gotta wait it out I'll be fine lol. it's nice that i also write bc then i can switch to writing for a while until the art block clears up 👍 i've found it's best for me to just take a break from drawing for a bit and not try to force it so my brain can like reset itself

oh man there are so many!!!! i could name like 100 people lol but i'm gonna limit myself to the ones i think have had the most direct influence on my art style. hope u guys don't mind the tags<3

@ileniagennari was one of the first artists i latched onto stylewise. i used to study their work a lot because i am obsessed with the fluidity and softness of their linework and i just really like how they draw faces and bodies. their rendering is also amazing and feels sort of cinematic somehow? i've always wished my art could have a similar feel!

@anna-scribbles has also been a huge style influence for me and she's just also been a big inspiration in general as a close friend<3 i ADORE her work and have studied it specifically a ton. she draws the most blorby blorbos ever. blorbyness is her art trademark imo. and i want that for me too so i tried to steal it. i also think just sheer proximity to her and her art has made me pick up a lot of things from her automatically haha. in particular, i feel like the way she draws smiles is so perfect, and i always try to channel her when i draw smiles myself haha

@ladybeug inspires me so much and has taught me really valuable art skills! a while ago i came to a point in my art journey when i felt just really stuck and frustrated. like i could not for the life of me just DOODLE. i took everything too seriously, even if it was supposed to be simple and silly. i really needed to learn how to loosen up and enjoy drawing more. stephanie is like the most esteemed and delightful doodler i know so i came to her for advice and she DELIVERED. she gave me super helpful tips and invited me to make daily comics with her and it's been lifechanging! it's helped me focus on communication over perfection and feel more confident in my art, which i think had a visible difference in my style too. i learn SO much from just regularly enjoying stephanie's work, including her webcomic @datmcomic!!

@rileyclaw is a good buddy of mine and his work is so hugely inspiring to me! it's really educational to see his wips and learn from his process. and since he's an incredible animator as well as an illustrator, enjoying his work is part of what inspired me to finally take a leap and make my first animatic. i really love how he pushes/exaggerates body and facial expression to communicate emotion and how he makes such careful choices about comp and color and just Everything to tell a whole story with every piece of his art. i've learned a lot from riley on the storytelling aspects of art and that's something i continue to try to build on!

@knockknockknockingonhootysdoor's art is like an instant and intense shot of dopamine to my brain every time!!! i cant even tell you how HAPPY it makes me. i just stare at it and eat it all up and i'm always asking myself HOW does he do it?? how does he make me feel this way. and i think it's just like....how genuine it is?? i can just feel kryan's love for the story and characters in the way he draws and im not sure that is a stealable quality lol. but in particular something i really admire about his art is how SHAPE it is. i love how he builds each character with different shapes and how each design feels so unique and so fitting for them. i am trying to incorporate that more into my own art!

man i already have rambled so much and there are so many other artists i could go on and on about alskjdfjkla ok just real quick i have to shout out @picayunearts bc i intensely enjoy her work in both the ml and toh fandoms and her coloring and use of light and gradient always stands out to me so i kinda try to channel that sometimes! @smallpapers is another fav and i love how soft and simple her art feels! it's always inspiring to me. @raystel's work also inspires me a lot, whether it's fanwork or original stuff. she is so creative with character design and seeing the way she expresses her ideas in art is so cool!

and i would be remiss if i didn't shout out my sister @mozzys-studio who is the first person i came to when i wanted to learn how to draw and she taught me a lot! her art is beautiful<3

with equal respect, Jewish-coding non-Jews (real or fictional) with antisemitic tropes (intentionally or not)—as well as the inverse, goy-coding “Good” Jews—is a fundamental part of how antisemitism works, especially in Christianity & Christian culture.

this is how Christians routinely talk about other Christians they don’t like—by comparing them negatively to (stereotypes of) Jews, both explicitly and implicitly:

“you’re a Pharisee, you’re a Judas, you’re a Shylock, you’re like the money-changers in the temple, you’re like The Teachers of the Law”—it is often that explicit, but it isn’t always.

sometimes it’s more muted references to “Old Testament Wrath Vs New Testament Love”, or “Legalism Vs Grace”, or good characters being blonde and noble while bad characters are swarthy, curly-haired, and wicked (their depictions of Cain-and-Abel and Jesus-and-Judas have often done this)—and sometimes it’s miserly usurers who just so happen to have “Old Testament” names, hate anything to do with Christian charity, and have sharp/curved/beak-like noses that people traditionally (and often still do) wear a big ‘ol aquiline prosthesis to play.

regardless of whether the intended target of their criticism is Jewish, it’s still antisemitic… because their way of criticizing that non-Jew is to draw from an image of a Jew that they have in their head. a very obvious example of this is when Joe Biden referred to bankers as “shylocks” in 2014. the bankers in question were not, to my knowledge, Jewish (if some were, they were not all), but it was antisemitic for him to say that, it was right that people called him on it, and thankfully he apologized for it. same as when Alex Jones or David Icke uses Blood Libel and against Hillary Clinton and other alleged “Globalists”/“Reptilians” goys.

those are more obvious & extreme example. in the case of Scrooge, yeah, it’s coding. but it’s coding that makes him look like an antisemitic caricature:

it’s also coding that mirrors the basic “Jewish/Jew-coded moneylender is presented as the antithesis of Christuan goodness, is humiliated/tormented by representatives of Christian morality for his lack of Christian charity, and is ‘converted’ as a result of that torment” story arc present in Shylock’s character (which itself was not unique to Merchant of Venice; it was a fairly common story arc for Jews in Christian arts & literature).

the fact Scrooge was raised Christian doesn’t change the fact that the story in every way treats him like he isn’t (the story directly positions him as anti- “all things good and Christian”) and, unfortunately, for people whose foundational texts build their understanding of right and wrong around the conflict between Jesus-vs-the-Pharisees, Jewish-Saul-vs-Christian-Paul, and Paul-vs-the-Judaizers, one of the most common ways they have for understanding a person as bad or antithetical to Christianity is to code them as Jewish (nevermind that Jesus and his disciples were Jews; they code them in the opposite direction because they’re “Good Jews”)

yes, Oliver Twist is clearly the more explicit example of Charles Dicken’s antisemitism (I’m also aware he at least took some steps toward rectifying that when he was called on it). but wherever explicit bigotry breaks through the surface to be seen, there is always also an underlying set of assumptions and associations that a person has in their mind about the object of bigotry. I think ACC is an example of this—whether Dickens intended it or not—and I think we can learn from that & not carry it forward

like I said, I’m not calling to “cancel” ACC or Dickens—the man’s dead, he can rest, and there’s a lot about the story that’s still decent (fwiw A Muppet Christmas Carol is still my favorite Christmas movie. Oliver & Company is also pretty good lol, but then again Fagin is heavily rewritten)—but I think we can look at tropes and coding that rely on those antisemitic associations in media we like and still say “yeah, maybe we can let that specific archetype rest” when we make new things

1) helping get stray cats fixed/off the streets. stray cats in particular is an absolutely massive issue that people dont tend to think about i feel. cats are unfortunately fantastic at destroying the environment ! flatbush cats is my favorite organization that helps these little poachers. they were recently able to build a nonprofit spay/neuter clinic in brooklyn actually. i have never been able to donate over the years that ive known abt them, but id love to. i adore everything they do. there are arguments against tnr, but i truly believe theyre doing amazing things for the cats and the environment

2) art art art !!! a lot less righteous than tnr lol but art is just so beautiful. every single piece is unique and beautiful. and when i say art, i mean all art. music, digital drawings, poetry, dancing, whatever ! everything the human creates is art. art is everywhere and its human and i love it

3) i have to mention gun laws. fuck dem gun lawz cuz they go against my murican rites

i can never think of specific ones for this question, but i cherish essentially every memory i have camping as a kid. going boating and tubing and stopping to get ice cream at the stall beside the river, sitting patiently to wait for the minnows to peck at your feet on the sandbar me and my brother named minnow island, riding in the rv on the way to the campground and playing plague inc with my brother at the dining table, riding my bike on the tiny trails that went between campsites.. love it all. the best parts of my childhood definitely

🐈 Do you all share one big bed together or do you have different beds?

- me n gerry sleep in the same bed, or couch, or car backseat. it's very cute. sprawling across eachother, limbs tangled. we need to be as close to eachother as possible. after gerry dies it's a lot of me falling asleep in odd places, with archives staff trying not to bother me too much. i can't leave the institute most of the time, and even tho i have a weird attic corner with a sad mattress i prefer the reminder that people are alive so i fall asleep behind shelves or in the break room. when jon becomes archivist, there's a lot of cute times where martin will put a blanket over me, or tim will make me scooch over in an armchair so we're basically sitting on top of eachother. sasha will brush my hair when it's been matted bc i can't take care of it during my episodes and ill drift off while she braids my hair. i'll nap with my head in jon's lap while he reads statements, idly feeding off the fear until it's just a hum in the back of my skull.

- after everything dissolves, tim will join me in my corner blanket pile because he "can't get fired for taking a nap on the clock" and eventually everyone takes a turn until we're all piled up on top of each other.

- gerry and i is a lot of spending time with eachother. listening to music while we cuddle. having lazy sex. watching shitty tv. burning books. reading the more mundane ones. lots of shitty subway rides to abandoned buildings where we blow shit up. typical delinquent-teenagers-fighting-incomprehensible-entities-that-feed-on-fear-and-misery activities. anything is my favorite thing to do with gerry bc it's gerry <3

- with jon it's definitely just sitting in silence with eachother, sort of parallel play. i would say i would also enjoy participating in his paranoid conspiracy theories but he's too. paranoid to let me help.

- tim it's definitely fucking around. tim loves to be the extrovert and introduce me to people, so once in a blue moon when i have the energy he'll take me out to do something fun like go to the pub or a nightclub or a fair. i do think a lot of it is physical intimacy as well, i think tim is a very physical person and i crave human touch like nothing else. just constant touching. i also think tim loves to get into outrageous debates and take the most hyperbolic positions just for fun, which i love.

- sasha i think it's a lot of me following her around on her job, talking about weird supernatural shit, just yapping away while she works. i think there is a companionship in being the only two feminine presenting people in the team, and i think there is and a unique sense of barrier between me and her, because she's transfemme and im a failed transmasc. i think. a lot of our best time is spent just getting to know eachother between bouts of existential horror

i mean, i've always liked Batman, but i never got into the comics bc there's so MANY so i settled for the animated tv shows and movies

unfortunately for y'all this DOES mean i will be composing a self-insert story in my head. there's already one simmering on the mental back burner. it's how you know i love a story or group of characters; i write a self-insert fanfic as a coping mechanism for whatever shit is happening in my life. and boy do i need to pretend there's an edgelord billionaire taking the streets during my waking hours and investing part of his fortune to studying my illnesses during the day

i think, for my story, my self-insert has my basic personality and definitely my gender. they're an artist living either in Gotham or Blüdhaven. they use a wheelchair, sometimes a rollator, and deal with my same chronic pain and fatigue. oh and bc i rarely hear southern accents in these shows, this pal is from good ol' Arkansas but moved to follow their kid brother to either Gotham or Blüdhaven

the basic Plot that my brain generated to connect my character to the Bat family hinges largely on chance. Nightwing is on patrol, maybe following leads on the current Mystery. he stops on the roof of an apartment building towards the end of his patrol and takes a breather, sits on ledge and goes through files of evidence etc etc

enter my character (uh let's call them Rhys?) who opens the door to the roof and pulls out their rollator that they've managed to lug up the last flight of stairs, since the elevator doesn't go all the way to the roof. they also have a large art canvas, an easel, and their bag of supplies precariously balanced on the rollator.

Rhys spots Nightwing, who was surprised to see anyone else on a rooftop at 4 in the morning, and they look around and go "I'm not. I'm not interrupting anything, am I? Usually one mask brings more."

Nightwing stands up and assures them they're safe. he's about to leave when they pull a huge thermos from their bag (how did they get all of this up here??)

"My brother gave me this for my birthday a few years ago," Rhys says, lifting the thermos so Nightwing could see it. They pop off the lid, which turns out to be two that can be used as mugs. "Weird kids don't make a whole lotta friends. But he said the easiest way to someone's heart is through a shared cup of coffee."

and how could Nightwing, running on a handful of hours of sleep with at least another eight hours of detective work ahead of him, possibly say no to that?

he accepts the coffee and quietly sends a message to Barbara that he's taking a brief detour, all the while Rhys is setting up their easel and canvas. there's already some rough sketches and a couple layers of paint. Nightwing knows the skyline of this city well enough to recognize it even through an artist's eyes.

Rhys tells him that the sunrises here are unique. back home, the skies were crystal clear and nearly every sunrise was hallmark-worthy. but here, the pollution and glass windows reflect and refract the light in more ways than they could've imagined, and they have a series of paintings stashed in their tiny apartment devoted to color studies.

for one reason or another, this becomes a regular thing. several times a week, Rhys takes the elevator to the top floor, then heaves their rollator and supplies up that last flight of stairs. and every so often, when they open the door, they find Nightwing waiting for them. he starts bringing breakfast with him, but tells them he likes their coffee better (bc there's something about a coffee shared in a thermos that can't be replicated by any coffee shop)

eventually they ask each other about family. obv Nightwing doesn't give too many details, but enough to add to conversation. Rhys only has their brother, as their parents have been out of the picture for years.

one day, Rhys is quieter than usual, and hasn't touched their canvas yet, instead sketching and scratching out and balling up scrap paper etc etc. Nightwing asks what's wrong, and it takes a bit of nudging, but Rhys eventually tells him they haven't heard from their brother in a little over a week. it's not so unusual, but they get anxious anyway. they assure Nightwing that their brother probably just forgot.

then a week passes, and Nightwing is alone on the roof longer than usual. he's about to leave when Rhys opens the door, and he doesn't even have to ask how they're doing because they're pale, fidgety, and the circles under their eyes are much more pronounced.

their brother hasn't returned any calls or texts. more worryingly, his phone seems to have died or disconnected several days ago. Rhys doesn't ask any favors, but they don't have to, because as they're piecing together what info they have, Nightwing is already looking through police databases and missing persons and so on.

he hits a dead end, but one that is more informative and condemning.

Rhys's brother has a file in the system, and it's buried behind a top secret confidential report. something, something, Nightwing makes a loose connection to the case he and Bruce are working on for the A-plot. he promises Rhys that he'll find their brother.

and he does. he and Bruce bust the A-plot scheme involving (insert name of gang) that was responsible for dozens of disappearances. only a few of the victims were saved, the rest had been killed long before Batman and Nightwing stormed the keep.

Nightwing finds the brother. his body is floating face down in the canal a few blocks downstream, along with a dozen or so others. he's been dead for two days at least.

once the bodies are retrieved and safely transported to the nearest hospital morgue, Nightwing heads back to Rhys.

the sky is already turning from black to grey as he lands on the rooftop. Rhys has their easel set up and looks to be halfway through their current painting. they look up, about to greet him, but their smile vanishes when they see how grim Nightwing seems.

they blink back tears threatening to fall, turn their attention back to the canvas and pick up a different paintbrush. they quietly mix different colors on their palette until they're satisfied, before slapping the paintbrush to the canvas.

"Please," they finally say. the tears are flowing freely now. "Tell me what happened."

Nightwing sits on the ledge next to his cup of coffee. he remembers how his heart shattered when his parents were killed. he remembers the crushing despair upon learning of Jason's fate.

he isn't new to delivering this message. to telling an innocent family that their loved one is gone. he's learned how to keep it professional yet empathetic, to hide the worst details while satisfying their desperate need to Know.

there was something different about this one. maybe it was the determined focus Rhys was giving their painting, despite the tremor in their hands and their short breaths.

Nightwing tells them everything he can, save for the worst details. Rhys doesn't need extra imagery for their inevitable nightmares. but he explains the gang, the villain, the blackmailing, and Rhys paints on, only stopping to wipe at their eyes or blow their nose.

he finishes his story and watches them paint.

after some time of sitting in silence, the city slowly awakens and the sun rises. it isn't until the sun is nearly level with the tallest buildings that Rhys drops their paintbrush and buries their face in their hands.

the painting depicts their usual imagery, the sunrise filtering through smog and glass towers. the foreground shows a rooftop, not so different from the one they currently sat on. at the farthest edge of the rooftop, standing on the ledge with his hands raised--perhaps greeting the sun, or waving goodbye to the viewer-- was a boy. Rhys hadn't given him much detail, but they didn't need to.

Nightwing saw not just their brother, but his. that boy could just as easily be Jason as any other kid whose lives were cut short.

Rhys packs their things and stands to leave. they don't touch the painting. Nightwing asks what they'll do with it. Rhys looks at it one more time.

"Take it," they tell him. "I can't look at it anymore."

when Dick comes home with the canvas, he leans it against the wall and stares at it. one of the other Bat family, maybe Steph? Tim? comes in and sees the painting.

"Whoa," they say. "It's beautiful. I've never seen a sunrise look so sad before."

To the anon asking about starting art (and all others who need help)

1. Definitely find a unique art tag or have a separate blog. It makes it a lot easier to peel through your art! I personally think it’s super annoying to follow an artist who makes it difficult to actually see their original posts without a lot of digging. And maybe this is a sideblog where you reblog main-blog art posts! Whatever you’d like, just make it obvious where to find it all.

2. The first 10 tags are the ones that show up best in search, so be picky! If you do fanart, definitely tag the characters first, and keep general stuff like ‘fanart’ or ‘digital art’ for later. Keep ramblings to the end! You only get 30 tags, so choose wisely.

3. Post often! And it doesn’t even have to be new every time. Whether it’s reblogging others’ art, your own art, answering asks, etc., this will help you not get lost on the dash. You don’t have to do 10 posts a day. Or even 1 post a day. There’s no algorithm, but it’s tough if you do one post a month (like I do), bc most of your followers won’t see it without lots of self-reblogging.

4. Have a signature that shows your art handle. That way, if it’s reposted, or your blog gets lost somewhere along the way, the source can be traced more easily. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve wanted to find an artist whose signature is just a scribble or their name.

5. Don’t look too closely at follower count, we don’t want you spiraling!! Especially on tumblr, some artists with huge followings get few notes, and some artists with tiny followings get tons of notes. Don’t worry about it! Everything happens with time.

6. And while we’re at it, try not to get bogged down by notes either. Some posts flop, some soar. Sometimes the 10 minute sketch gets more attention than the 8 hour painting. It happens! The cool thing about tumblr is that as long as a post is circulating, it can still gain attention. Don’t forget to self-reblog!

7. Have a place (maybe your art blog, maybe a side blog) to reblog other people’s art. The only way that stuff gets circulated here is through reblogs, so if you want to give back and show your appreciation, spread the love! Likes do nothing here. And if you want to make friends and mutuals, write fun tags if you feel like it! I’ve met a ton of great artists that way. When people start keysmashing or writing essays in the tags, it��s the best feeling.

8. Get involved! Often you’ll see things like big exchanges going around, those are lots of fun. When you make mutuals, do collabs and art trades! Dtiys, drawing fanart for your favorite bloggers, leaving asks and comments and tags, all that stuff! It’s a great way to make friends and learn a lot along the way.

ghosting by antimonicacid: really fantastic character study for claude and dimitri. honestly has one of my favorite pre ts dimitris in a fic bar none maybe. this has very quintessential dmcl energy bc theyre so… gentle w each other in this fic? idk i love it. great dedue cameo

the ground all around, it was always holy by themorninglark: really beautiful pre ts dimitri character study from claude’s perspective. the writing in this fic is stunning, and the development of their relationship is so compelling and wonderful. this one sort of breaks my heart but it’s not sad the writing just kind of makes me ache a bit.

dreams, they’re for those who sleep by longboyzone: really intimate moment near the end of white clouds that really captured me. i’ve reread this one a lot and i think abt it. also features gentle dmcl. would recommend the other two one shots by this author as well. they’re all really good

celestially written by aetherae: this fic is so good to me i’m obsessed with it? the whole series actually. it just hits so many dmcl buttons for me but basically it’s a joint route vw/am fic where claude takes the hit for dimitri after gronder rather than rodrigue. except like instead of being abt any of that it’s like 13k of people gossiping abt when dmcl is actually gonna get together and it’s. so. good. the outsider pov dmcl in this one just hits idk what else to say. they also have a bunch of other dmcl fics i’ve read that are really good but they’ve written like 30+ fe fics so i’d say just check their profile out!

lion in the mist by trilies: this fic has really stuck so me since i first read it probably because it’s so unique? this has claude (+ the deer) coming across dimitri midskip while traveling to fraldarius. i really love how both dimitri and claude are handled in this fic, idk you can tell the author is handling them both deliberately and with care? and the atmosphere this fic creates is really fantastic. they also are rather prolific so i’d check out their page as well. bc they have so much good dmcl

wear your colours by metallic_sweet: okay i said i wouldn’t do anything you could find on the first few pages of the ao3 tag but this was my first joint route fic and it lives in my heart for a lot of reasons. honest to god some of the best fe3h world building i’ve read in a fic like fodlan feels like a place here that contains 3 nations with distinct cultures. also this fic really takes seriously how dark the world of fodlan truly is without making dmcl ‘darker’ than they are as well? it’s a delicate balance and they do it fantastically. has an unfinished sequel (also worth reading—the whole series is, but dmcl isn’t the focus of every fic) that breaks my heart every day.

Parkour is very easy and fun around the Park! Given its stairs, concrete walls and ledges, and other park stuff like bolted benches and uneven buildings and sloping streets, he can lunge and dash like nobody's business.

He effortlessly switches between his arms and legs and using his Scarf. His favorite place to free run is the Bazaar, Poco's Bandstand or Super City!

His Scarf inflicts cartoon level slapstick violence on him when it's upset, more upset than just losing a brawl. A temper tantrum. A tailored tantrum?

It makes him trips, wraps his head all up, and sometimes grabs onto anything within reach tightly to prevent Edgar from taking another step forward. It’s also very expressive in general. Yes, the Scarf can be as moody and difficult as him.

C, heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends

His mom passed away when he was young, and his father dropped him off at an orphanage/gave him up to foster care due to feeling inadequate and heart-broken to try raising him.

Since fostercare is such a big issue when it comes to the legal age, Edgar was ready to work as soon as he legally could and continue working to have enough money for himself for the rest of his life!

This is why he works diligently at the Gift Shop despite hating it near completely at times.

Also why he still takes on several roles, like the GA Gang and helping the Bad Randoms. He always wants a safe amount of money. (Which, also contributed to absolutely loathing Griff back when he was still a terrible boss and stole tips from him and Colette!)

That said, he was well on his way to becoming a friendless, distant workaholic, if not for his fellow peers (TDT for the win~) cracking open the egg and becoming close with him!

Sometimes, the Storm Clouds take one side and the Sunny Days take the other, and you can tell where they converge in the middle. Other times, it’s a spiral composition of their styles, and the finished product is always breathtaking.

Throughout the hours they spend in between adding more, they just chill. Poco provides music, Bibi always brings (steals) food from the diner. The Coworkers always has stories to tell! Emz snaps pictures and short videos all throughout! Snippets of their process and how much fun they’re having. Memories to never let go of~ <3

what they look for in a game: Albedo seems like the type to enjoy games with vast worlds that involve lots of exploration and puzzles. I also feel like he like more quiet gameplay- if that makes any sense. Very much "Show, don't tell." Likes walking simulators!

things that turn them off from a game: He dislikes when games over-explain themselves/their plots. He likes to be able to unfold the mysteries and plot threads himself instead of being spoonfed. He also dislikes voice chat bc people are mean. If there is a VC he mutes basically everyone even if it makes teamwork difficult.

how much time do they devote to videogames: Albedo really only plays videogames on days off or when alchemy research has hit a lull.

a game or games that I think they'd like: outer wilds, shadow of the colossus, and journey.

Kaeya:

what they look for in a game: Story-rich games with unique art that explore heavy topics or philosophical themes! but also really likes multiplayer games where he can troll lol.

things that turn them off from a game: If he dislikes the art he finds it hard to play or pay attention to. This doesn't mean he demands picture-perfect graphics! He's mostly into unrealistic and eye-catching graphics/art he likes games with style and flair!

Diluc:

what they look for in a game: Diluc is a very busy man who likes to be in control of his life and the things that affect it. Therefore I have come to the conclusion that he likes simple and sweet games with low stakes where he is mostly in control if not basically god haha.

things that turn them off from a game: Games that involve him to be emotionally invested or have lots of stressors are not his thing. Games are played to relieve his stress, not make him cry over character death.

how much time do they devote to video games: He likes to play a little bit on his break when he gets the chance or a little bit after work. Doesn't like to play for too long each day or he feels unproductive!

a game or games that I think they'd like: the sims, planet zoo, my time at Portia, stardew valley, and ANIMAL CROSSING!! (I dont care if this is OOC okay. Diluc plays animal crossing on his lunch break. His favorite villagers are the bird ones. His favorite fruits are apples and cherries, and he loves terraforming his island. He finds it therapeutic.)

Childe:

what they look for in a game: loves gacha games, he's a total whale, and loves to flex his pulls. Also loves games with intense competitive multiplayer and couch co-op games. Absolutely a sore winner who everyone hates playing jack box with.

things that turn them off from a game: Dislikes the story mode of most games bc they usually fail to keep this attention. He'd much rather be making yo mama jokes and shit-talking n00bs over the mic like the little asshole gremlin he is. The only exception so far is "The Last of Us," because of one time when the internet was shitting out on him during matchmaking. He decided to play the story while his connection got itself together and ended up liking it.

how much time do they devote to video games: Stays up late playing them at night a LOT. They're usually the reason he's tired the next day.

a game or games that I think they'd like: mario kart, smash bros, arknights, mortal kombat, apex, and dead by daylight.

Zhongli:

what they look for in a game: Zhongli likes simple games with cute graphics and easy controls. Mostly a mobile gamer as he finds most console game controls confusing. Loves virtual remakes of classic games that he used to play with other people physically.

things that turn them off from a game: Really dislikes first-person shooters. He finds them loud and disorienting. Poor old man.

how much time do they devote to videogames: Barely ever plays, might play while having a cup of tea or to pass the time while waiting for something!

a game or games that I think they'd like: mahjong, solitaire, candy crush, and those lumosity games for training your brain.

Jean:

what they look for in a game: At first when jean thought of video games the only thing that came to mind was "a waste of time." As the acting grand master of the knights of Favonius she rarely has time to socialize or even date. That's when she decided to maybe just maybe give dating sims a shot. She's a bit insecure about it, but they give her butterflies without the strain of a real relationship.

things that turn them off from a game: Really dislikes games that glorify villainy or have you play as the bad guy. She also really hates horror games. Fun fact, she played doki doki literature club but missed the warning somehow and WOW she got really upset-

how much time do they devote to video games: As mentioned previously Jean is a busy gal. So she really only gets to play games on her rare days off or maybe just a little before bed.

a game or games that I think they'd like: I don't know a lot of sweet and fluffy dating sims but I feel like the sweet and fluffy ones are her favorite! I've really only played one dating sim before and that was monster prom so I'm gonna use that for the example lol. I know there's a lot of mischief in that game but she always chooses the more moral upstanding choice even if it cost her a date haha.

Hu Tao:

what they look for in a game: Hu Tao is partial to games with gothic aesthetics and horror elements! Specifically really loves psychological horror and unique creature design. Enjoys difficult gameplay and feels a sense of accomplishment when she succeeds!

things that turn them off from a game: When a game is too easy to play she gets bored rather quickly.

how much time do they devote to video games: Frequently plays really late at night while listening to a paranormal podcast or other spooky content.

a game or games that I think they'd like: Dark souls, Darkwood, The cat lady, rule of rose.

Lisa:

what they look for in a game: Like Childe, Lisa likes competitive gameplay. But she's more into fantasy MMO RPGs! She just really loves fantasy things it doesn't have to be multiplayer. Also really likes games with lots of lore and digs strategy turn-based combat! Other game types she likes are visual novels or anything with a good story-driven narrative. Loves being able to discuss fan theories online in forums.

things that turn them off from a game: Mediocre writing, poor/inconsistent world-building, or a lack of lore. She needs a story to sink her teeth into or she just won't play.

how much time do they devote to video games: Probably plays a lot. Really only pausing to correct people's behavior in the library!

a game or games that I think they'd like: World of Warcraft, Hearthstone, League of legends, Darkest dungeon, and slay the spire.

I’ve got a lot of asks recently, mostly from people new to the world of CC, about which creators are the best, so I’ve made this little list of the creators I download and use the most. This is not in any way a complete collection, I might have forgotten someone (and there’s also plenty of creators I haven’t discovered yet). Also, these are all build creators, mainly creating alpha CC. Please feel free to add to this list. Also also, the description I’ve used for the artists are totally my own making, so if you are a creator and feel like I am describing your work in an unfair way, go ahead and punch me in the face.  If I was a new simmer, I would check out these creators:  Retired: MXIMS - Makes modern, real life furniture with the best quality. Has many downloads left on their website.  MINCSIMS - Similar to MXIMS (with some amazing collabs), also with a beautiful talent for doors and windows. Not many objects left in orbit, but google is your friend.  DAER0N - Done everything from noodles to palms, but the recent Daer0n I would describe as gold, dark and modern, with 3D modeling skills out of this world. Retired, and much of the old stuff is gone, but some can be found at bloomingrosy.  DOX - Similar to Daer0n with a slightly stricter, more wooden approach. The most underrated one of the retired giants. Has some downloads left on their website. ANBS - Super clean aesthetic. Modern, real life furniture. Many downloads left on their website. SLYD - Mostly known as a CAS creator, but has the amazing shoes and bags available as decor. All downloads left on the website.  HVIKIS - Wallpapers and wall art. All downloads left on the website. VIIKIITA - Recolors to die for. Not many objects left in orbit, but google is your friend. Active (I think. I hope. I don’t know):  ARSBOTANICA - Previously simshamlet. Does really lovely, vintage aesthetic perfume bottles and amazing flowers. SLOX - A personal favorite. Modern, I’d say. And realistic. But often with objects you didn’t even know you needed, that ends up being the main inspiration for the whole build. Like some folded shirts, or a stack of books. 13PUMPKIN -  A long with Artvitalex this is the best wood creator in the community. The sets are kind of like “small-lovely-family-home”-style, but can be used in big, modern builds with equally outstanding results.  WONDYMOON - My by far most used creator. The most organized one too, I’d say. All sets match eachother, and are easy to find (and are all named by elements, this guy is a rock star). PYSZNYDESIGN - The Kilburn set is to die for.  MEINKATZ - Literally replicas of real life furniture, with their history and all. Honestly the coolest thing ever. Also, a really nice person.  PRALINESIMS - The best floor and wall creator, hands down. I don’t know if this is really the person I should tag tho, so I’ll tag @cross-design​ and hope for the best because I honestly still don’t know who is who. I love them both tho. THE TSR GIANTS: SEVERINKA, KARDOFE, UNG999, SIMMAN123, PILAR, ARTVITALEX, ANGELA, DOT, BUFFSUMM, SHINO and NYNAEVE - Yes, a lot of the creators I mention here are active on TSR and a lot of my TSR giants are active elsewhere, but I still, maybe arbitrary, like to put these under the TSR flag because they represent that wonderful vibe of big sets, certain room types and signature colors. PEACEMAKER - a true legend. Some of the CC is borderline MM, but that is what makes them so perfect. They go with both themes. MIO - This is the first creator I downloaded from and they will always have a special place in my heart. Brilliant conversions, flower sets, seating, everything.  NOVVVAS - A way too humble person that claims she is not the best in the game, when she truly is out of this world. RIGHTHEARTED - who I have been referring to as neiden my whole life because I am an idiot.  TINGELINGLATER - Does a lot of things but blessed all of us with windows and since then I am in love.  ANYE - Pinkbox Anye, to be correct. Lovely person. Lovely sets. Unique eyes. Adore this one.  FOREVERDESIGNS - Will literally transform your bedroom. And kitchen. And life.  BLACKMOJITOS - Build sets and sexy, stunning posters (and a basket every now and then). Also up for commissions, I just noticed. Go throw money at her. She is amazing.  KAI-HANA - Has a totally unique style, where everything is alpha, but still has a beautiful, clayish touch to it. Underrated.  AROUNDTHESIMS - A bit on the MM side, so if you’re looking for that MM/alpha mix, this is for you. Extremely productive. Does everything and more.  CHERRY-SIMS - A part from the CC, this is also the best picture editor I’ve ever seen. I am a huge fan!  CONCEPTDESIGN - Did someone say trees? YUMIA - Soft flowers, old school touch, vintage AGGRESSIVEKITTEN - Literally killed half the community with the recent brutalism set, which without a doubt will be voted best CC of 2020. Also, where else would you go for both beautiful, vintage objects AND a tarot card reading? Weirdly obsessed with seals. Makes amazing lots. I love you.  DSCO - I gave up trying to spell this creators full name after the sixth attempt. I would describe the CC as cute. But not in the condescending (that I could spell) way. More in a bad-ass-I-need-all-of-these-objects-kind-of-way! KKB - My ignorant and uneducated ass wants to call it Korean, and I am sorry if this isn’t the right way to describe anything. Soft, pastel but at the same time very cool, with rattan and wood.  DR GREENIE - Former Green Girl. Mostly MM, but has made some of my most used decor objects.  HELEN - Extremely productive. Does everything.  NIKADEMA - Has made my favorite sink!  PQSIMS - Makes sets. Usually light wood.  LUNATICAVILLAGE (2SIS) - Another underrated favorite. Everyone should go here and show as much love as possible! LAVI3ENROSE - A creator that entered my world quite recently. Art deco. Bronze. Gold. And the best wrapped Christmas presents of 2019.  DDAENG SIMS - Another giant that recently changed their name (used to be dreamteamsims).  FELIXANDRE - The best historical creator (as in making epic shit that would create the most wonderful castle). Sometimes a bit on the MM side with the furniture, and that contrast makes it, in my eyes, even better.  SIMCREDIBLE - Sets. Color matching. Often light and modern. I use their decor stones in every single one of my .  SOLORIYA - MM creator. But even for us alpha bitches there are wonderful stuff (I think this is the case for most MM artists, I just don’t know so many of them).  XELENN - Also does literally everything. One can scroll this blog for hours.  OWL-PLUMBOB - Amazing build objects.  SANOYSIMS - A long with MXIMS, I’d say this is one of the most “realistic” artists.  WINNER9 - To me, this creator is all about the amazing wall art. But of course they make other stunning objects too. Marble tables, anyone? SJAMBOKSIM - My most used concrete walls (and I use concrete A LOT).  AIFIRSA - Totally different style from everyone else. Absolutely love this aesthetic.  VIVIAN STUDIO - This sounds weird, but their onions are the best object in my game. Don’t judge.  HEURRS - A quite new creator who blew my mind with some recent candles and earned my first reblog since 456 BC. Love you.  I am forgetting so, so many. Please, I sometimes can’t even remember my own name, so don’t feel hurt if I missed you. PLEASE comment your favorite creators below! i’m gonna be real with y’all, it physically hurts me to see some of you dismissing animated films as for kids and cartoons. if you’ll allow me to put on my art kid hat for a second, i have a (usually drunken) impassioned rant that i roll out around the topic but to spare y’all and sum it up, it is an ART FORM made up of three different art forms in a trenchcoat and quite frankly, you fav ~films COULD!!!!!! NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!

you want an animated movie that truly deserves the film moniker? look no further. this gorgeously stop motion animated film is the story of an eight year old australian girl who forms an incredibly unlikely friendship based on a life long pen pal relationship with a 44 year old new yorker with asperger’s. it’s a really beautiful story that, fair warning, gets pretty dark at points but i can honestly say has moved me like very few films have possibly for personal backstory reasons but also because it’s so damn good. idk, it makes me cry a lot. also, the soundtrack? incredible.

fantastic mr fox

i love wes anderson, i think he’s an artist and a master of visual and micro-storytelling. fantastic mr fox isn’t my all time favorite of his portfolio (that prize rotates between the royal tenenbaums, moonrise kingdom, and the grand budapest hotel), i love this movie a lot and it is one of my favorite animated films. it’s another stop motion (LISTEN THAT IS SUCH A COOL TECHNIQUE AND HONESTLY BREAKS MY BRAIN WITH EVERYTHING THAT GOES INTO IT) and the visuals can get downright eerie in a way that makes me shiver with glee.

another stop motion! the visual style of this movie is so gorgeous and complicated, i lost a bet over whether or not it was digitally or physically animated. i belligerently insisted capitalism would never allow for an animation studio to build such vibrant and intricate sets because there was absolutely no way that would be even a little bit cost effective and i have never ben happier to be wrong, tbh. the first time i watched this movie i immediately watched it two more times back to back bc i am very normal when i love stuff.

the first ten minutes of this movie is a greater love story than most love stories could ever aspire to be and that’s just the launching point for the rest. i am an absolute sucker for both found family and cross-generational relationships so this hits on multiple levels.

wall-e

this movie makes the list for a couple of reasons. one, I remain in awe of the kind of storytelling pixar can do without dialogue. two, it’s an inside joke between me and my husband (i’m eva, he’s wall-e, i never said it was a complicated or even a good joke but it makes me squishy nonetheless). we actually had a wall-e wedding cake topped with wall-e and eva funko pops and i hear it was gorgeous. i never saw it bc my flower girls stole it and smashed and ate it all in the back seat of their parents rental car.

spider-man: into the spider-verse

this movie is a mfing instant classic and if you haven’t seen it you’re only hurting yourself. the story is impeccable, the combination of depth and humor is absolute perfection and the animation is I N C R E D I B L E. they scrapped current CGI convention and went back to the hand-animation technique of shifting movement every second frame (alternating which frame, the first or second, depending on the vibe they wanted to give the scenes). they also scrapped motion blur to give the whole thing a sharper, more staccato feeling that (imo) really ramped up the energy and made it feel more comic book in a vague but crucial sort of way and also unique from other animated movies. THEN they went in and did the line work, painting and dot effects on top of all of that to give it that hand drawn, living painting feeling and honestly the whole thing is so lush and gorgeous if i think about it too much i want to punch myself in the face.

look, the casting of this movie is a trainwreck, enough of one that i waffled a lot about putting it on this list. the fact that they told such a steeped in japanese culture story with all white people is a disaster and everyone involved should have known better. on the flip side, it’s one of the most breathtakingly beautiful animation jobs i’ve ever seen in my life so idk, i hold both of those facts in my head at the same time i guess.

looking back this movie was SO DARK and i was SO OBSESSED WITH IT as a kid (still kind of an, tbh, in spite of the relentless cat slander, it’s incredibly thematically rich)

do you ever just Have A Week

listening mrs farenheit by the clans. the lead singer has a really unique presentation of indie frontman voice, get better soon. it’s a goofy little song with some grumbly guitar and the lines “ya got me burnin up/ i think i'll call you Mrs Fahrenheit” which i find charming. i rarely have anything particularly deep to say about music i just think this song is neat. 

reading the lost tribe of the sith novellas by john jackson miller. im writing this very late monday night bc i don’t want to stay up even later reading these, but i don’t care for them very much. getting me really invested in one family’s story and then skipping a thousand years (TWICE!!!) is a weird method of storytelling, and i don’t think it’ll suddenly come together in the last sixty pages of this book. wish i cared about star wars less

watching army of the dead (2021, dir. snyder) is one of the most strangely tensionless films i’ve ever seen. it’s a HEIST FILM. with ZOMBIES. i’m not surprised zack snyder has never heard of the Hitchcock Bomb Theory, but GOD would this movie be greatly improved if someone had a wristwatch that was counting down the minutes and they looked at it every so often, or the camera ominously lingered on said wristwatch every once in a while. instead, problems are presented and immediately solved. characters deliver tragic backstory and their motivations of said tragic backstory like they’re delivering mantras at group therapy. it’s such a cool concept but such a bad film, not even fun bad. soulless. there are so many moving parts in this film and all they do is trip all over each other. combined, it could have been a frantic, tense careening rush from one problem to the next, but instead i never felt like anyone was in real danger until the literal last ten minutes of this two and a half hour movie.  there’s almost nothing that makes you go “ooh how will this pop up later and fuck them?” bc this movie completes every single sidequest as it comes across it.

all of it is so poorly executed. the only good part is tig notaro chomping a cigar and doing her best han solo impression. go find a supercut bc it’s really and truly not worth your time

playing autogenerated word is “integration”, itch.io spat out Carnelian by Autumnotopia, a short point-and-click horror thing (maybe fifteen minutes, if that?) made by someone who counts homestuck as a formative art influence. this is not a dunk, i too read homestuck (yes all of it) and played hiveswap. i think it works here, bc it does give me that good early tens/teens ms paint nostalgia, and this game did make me very tense. you know in movies, when someone knows they’re almost certainly going to die but they square up and do their job anyway? mmmm. gets me in the heart somewhere. an interesting way to spend fifteen minutes.

while playing through it again to get screenshots i discovered some new dialogue, so just keep clicking on people more times than you think is necessary.

making the wretched hive piece continues apace. the buildings are my least favorite part, bc it’s a fuck of a lot of brown and a fuck of a lot of backstitch, unfortunately, in order to reap the rewards of having a pretty thing to go on the wall, you have to go through the ordeal of making it properly.
