BAWKtober Day 1 - Maple

I thought a Salmon Favorelles chicken would work well with this one! Meant to give her maple leaves for the foot feathers, but I am apparently bad at drawing plants...

First of all, this is the SWEETEST ASK I have EVER RECEIVED.

And second of all, YES I DID!!

Their names are Ducky and Snickerdoodle and they are so ridiculous 🤌✨

THIS IS DOODLE

She is the chillest little bean I’ve ever had. I don’t know if it’s just her nature to be so trusting or if she’s just really stupid. 🤔 She is a ball of fluff and only seems to notice that I’ve picked her up when she takes three steps midair and doesn’t get anywhere.

THIS IS DUCKY

She takes naps like this a lot and I always think she’s dead 🤷🏻‍♀️ She’s at the bottom of the pecking order and is terrified of everything. But sometimes if I hold still for a few seconds she forgets to be scared of me and climbs all over me like I’m an inanimate object, so maybe they’re both idiots. 😂

Aside from their doofy personalities lets discuss more reasons why Salmon Faverolles are THE BEST.

They have FEATHERED FEETS and EXTRA TOES!

They’re ready to STRIKE A POSE at a moment’s notice!

And they make all the big chickens JEALOUS!

But mostly I just love their cute tufted faces and docile demeanor.

On an unrelated note, you guys may have noticed that besides the occasional reblog I haven’t had much of an online presence, and I have like 20 comments in my ao3 inbox I haven’t responded to (I am so sorry T_T).

I’ve been feeling REALLY not myself recently. My relationship with things I love and that I feel are a big part of my identity—including writing—had shifted drastically over the last four months from something I enjoyed to something that terrified me. And it happened with too many things at once and too strongly to be a coincidence. So I’ve been doing a mental health check, and am looking into finding a therapist I like to try to figure out what’s going on. Cuz it kind of does feel like components of my identity are deteriorating and I sometimes catch my thoughts turning real dark.

So all that to say that I am enjoying my native plant garden and my chickens and letting things like an online presence fall by the wayside for a bit. But I’m still here and I still see you and appreciate SO MUCH all the nice comments you’ve left, even though it’s taking me a very long time get myself together to get on ao3 and answer them 💚🍃✨

So recently my family got some new chicks; 3 buff orpingtons and 3 salmon faverolles.

One of the faverolle chicks has 4 toes on both feet, one has 5 toes on one foot and 4 on the other, and one has 5 toes on both feet!

The hen on the right with the red chest is the only fav/Dom cross girl that made it. She is a boss. There are two fav/Dom cross roosters around too!

Mama's doing well and hatching now. She's up to three chicks now, one looks to be a rooster or a cross, not sure yet!

Princess Peach is almost done with her molt, and she’s looking as adorable as ever!

The girls are still getting acclimated to their new coop, but Peach got to explore a bit with heavy supervision.

She would occasionally look up to make sure she was close to us, and if she had wandered too far for her own standards, she'd hurry back over to us.

The sweet little lady didn't even struggle when I picked her up to go back in.

Sketch of a really neat chicken I saw in a dream last night. Will ink and color later, because it was just so gosh darn pretty. And I CAN'T HAVE IT BECAUSE IT DOESN'T EXIST. 😭

I tend to have upsetting/unsettling dreams when I'm stressed out. (I call them stress dreams.) Not necessarily nightmares, but they're not fun. And they stress me out even more, as they target whatever I fear.

In this case, I had one last night where demons were trying to get my chickens. (My coops are old and starting to fall apart, but we're working on getting a brand new one with a HUGE run set up.) I didn't really see what kind of demons they were, because it was some random person telling me what was happening. And I had an image one flash before me for a brief second....for some reason it was Majima's Hannya tattoo...

Like ....what the hell does Majima want with my chickens? Does Majima want to be like Kiryu and have a chicken run a business as manager for him???? (Good luck. Maybe my Australorp or one of the black and gold/red ones will do it for mealworms, but the others will peck/rip you to shreds first as they came to me with an extreme dislike for humans.) Also, when I last looked up Majima's tattoo, the Hannya is supposed to bring good fortune. So having that around my coops should actually be a good sign. Not ominous.

I dunno. I have weird dreams, and sometimes they upset me. But this one got interesting because I went looking for coops and found neat looking chickens.
