Another trope i love:
After jaskier confesses his love for geralt, geralt confirms he feels the same way.
But then he starts listing off all the ways that he doesn't deserve jaskier, and how jaskier deserves a better partner and a better life.
Then it becomes a change of roles where Jaskier is the one to tell geralt to shut up.
(And then they kiss)

I love that found family might not be related by blood but protect and trust each other unconditionally, because then they show that love is unconditional. And they teach each other that. They teach each other trust and love and family.
No matter all the hurt they put each other through, they chose to work through it and to love each other because for the first time there is a family to fight for. A family who accepts them.

What are your favorite tropes? 👀 And who’s Your favorite turtle?
I have a bunch of tropes that I love, but the first that comes to mind is when all the bad stuff happens to the sunshine character or like when they go out alone and the villain finds them
As you can probably tell from my stories lol
As for the turtles — Donnie is actually my fav (apart from Rise, where Mikey managed to steal my heart)! I haven’t seen many TMNT iterations, but from what I have seen Donnie was always the best/funniest/smartest/most relatable character for me. Also purple is my favourite colour too so of course Donnie for the win.
But when I watched Rise. I was for sure certain Donnie would be my fave again, and I was right — for about ten minutes. And then I instantly fell in love with Mikey’s character. Specifically when he said “Why don’t we let the artist of the crew take a poke at it?” I knew he was going to be my favourite. HE’S JUST SO SILLY AND SQUISHY AND CREATIVE I LOVE HIM AAAAND HE HAS ADHD HE’S JUST LIKE ME FOR REAL
(Donnie is like my second fav from Rise, but to be fair I love all the boys from ROTTMNT so much. That show really changed TMNT for me because before then I kinda actually sorta disliked TMNT… Rise redeemed the franchise for me and now all I can ever draw/write/talk about is turtles.)

My favourite trope in horror at the moment is a character who is partially to blame for the unsafe situation they are in but never the harm that they suffer from that.
Like in evil dead, the person who turns on the record player is always partially at fault for their blind stupidity, but not for what the deadites do to them or their family.

tomarrymort fandom, what are some of you guys’s favourite fic tropes? I’ve been in this fandom for some time, and I’ve just been curious about what the rest of you like to read, and I also think it’s a good chance to get to know you all better, if you’d like it…anyways, here are my own personal favourite ones!
-
Favourite Tropes
for harrymort, I like:
-
- post-apocalyptic voldemort and harry.
(more specifically, one where they are both forced to work together to figure out what’s happened/survive etc…the main thing is that they join forces and become partners. sort of like an enemies to hesitant partners to companions to lovers)
unfortunately though, there aren’t that many fics for that, and/or they’re not easy to find or some across.
________________________________
- master of death harry. i love those.
________________________________
- ghost voldemort haunts harry after the war, and harry’s the only one who can see him.
________________________________
- the one where they’re trapped in a place together and they can’t get out until they get along, and sort out their differences.
________________________________
- post war. where both sides somehow come to an agreement of peace, and voldemort and harry just can’t stay away from one another.
________________________________
- time travel.
________________________________
- ghost voldemort
________________________________
- married harrymort where both are equal and harry actually has a Job™️, and they share decisions together, and harry isn’t just some naive, spicy, feminised, twiggy little bottom who yields to all of voldemort’s commands and is absolutely useless and powerless.
________________________________
- immortal harry and voldemort where they keep having life cycles together. (OMG I REMEMBER THIS ONE FIC THAT I READ WHERE HARRY WAS REINCARNATED INTO A MUGGLE WORLD WITH NO MAGIC WHERE HE WAS A WANNABE DETECTIVE AND VOLDEMORT WAS THE LEADER OF A NOTORIOUS CRIME SYNDICATE IN 1930s/40s/50s? AMERICA WHO WENT BY THE NAME OF MARVOLO AND IT WAS AMAZING OMG I WONDER IF ITS UPDATED SHIT I DONT EVEN REMEMBER THE NAME ARGHHHHG)
________________________________
- hanahaki disease. this ones a bit sad, but it’s also one of my favourites. it’s so painful that there are only a few out there.
________________________________
- marriage of convenience. it depends though.
________________________________
- where harry and voldemort raise a child together. BUT. not mpreg. i can’t stand that one, ESPECIALLY, the ones in which Harry is referred to as “mum”, idk, it just gives me the ick, not for me.
________________________________
for tomarrymort
- harry is the master of death so he lives through many lives, until eventually, he cycles back to his own life and is reborn as himself, but mentally he is older, and he knows more and understands more about the world.
________________________________
- soulmate au. now this one, it has a few subtropes. like, there’s the timer soulmate au, the ink appearing on skin soulmate au, the complementing soul mark au, the name soul mark au, the world without colour au, the horcrux creating a bond au, the bruises and cuts sharing au, the belongings disappearing and appearing with the other person au, the complementary wings au, the usual love at first touch au, the prophecy soulmates au, etc etc.
________________________________
- time loop
________________________________
- switch tomarrymort (there are not many of those out there, but I do rlly like them)
________________________________
- only one bed
_______________________________
- soul dreams. especially when it’s harrymort.
________________________________
- dimension hopping. i love that one. i once read one where young harry and tom who were raised together and from another dimension, were kidnapped by a dimension hopping death eater and brought to a dimension with an older harry and voldemort who are against each other and in war like the books. it was such an interesting story with an interesting plot, and very well written…but it only had ONE OR TWO CHAPTERS AND IT HASNT UPDATED FOR A VERY LONG TIMEEE 😫😭. i tried searching for similar stories with the same concept but I could find none. I’m acc still devastated 🥲
________________________________
- where either tom/voldemort or harry is reincarnated into a muggle world only to discover there is no magical community in that dimension/universe, and that the other doesn’t seem to remember them (loss of magical power or not doesnt make a difference)
________________________________
- defence prof. tom/voldemort and student harry
________________________________
- one where either of tom/voldemort or harry get stuck as an animal, and the other knowingly or unknowingly takes care of them (like i remember reading this fic where harry accidentally time travels to tom riddle’s hogwarts days, and gets himself stuck as a cat - i don’t even remember how tbh...and there’s also this other one, where voldemort is stuck as a snake/serpent, and is forced to go to the only parselmouth around for help i.e. harry…it’s an interesting concept tbh )
________________________________
for tomarry
- tom and harry grow up together. this one has two subtropes though. one, where young harry from the future somehow teleports himself to tom in the past. and another, where harry is just from tom’s time.
________________________________
- muggle au except tom’s a ghost.
________________________________
- tom and harry are colleagues at hogwarts.
________________________________
- tom and harry are colleagues at a high school or university muggle au.
________________________________
- tom teaches harry, or harry teaches tom muggle au
________________________________
- harry is a police officer, and tom is a criminal. (muggle au of course)
________________________________
- minister of magic tom
________________________________
- tom and harry are both muggle orphan street urchins who grow up thieving together, relying on each other, and having each other’s backs
________________________________
- tom and harry hannibal au
________________________________
- workplace au (can be muggle and magical, like they could be working in a law firm or something, or at a shop in knockturn)
________________________________
- muggle au students. uni or high school, but I prefer uni really.
________________________________
- amortenia. by which I mean in the context of being hogwarts students, and they’re sitting in potions class as partners to brew it, only they feel it’s not working, but actually it is, and tom just thinks it’s because he actually can’t love, and harry thinks it’s bc they somehow messed up the potion. they don’t notice the scent bc they’re partners and sitting right next to each other.
________________________________
- time travel. this one has a lot of subtropes that I like, such as, harry, being a dunce, and accidentally time travelling back to the past (permanently is good, but also I like the one where he has to go back to his own time, and ends up taking tom w him, and the one where tom finds a way to travel to him into the future), going back to the past as a last resort during the war to prevent future events only to end up falling in love, time travelling harry and tom, in love, travelling together to confront voldemort from the future, harry travels and meets adult tom/fresh out of school tom, harry time travels and becomes defence professor in tom’s time, etc
________________________________
- reincarnated harry being raised in wool’s with tom with all memories of his past life.

I think one of my favorite things in kaer morhen fics is that in every story Lambert is a little shit
he always says something that causes one of the other wolves to smack him upside the head or elbow him in the side or kick him under the table
My Feral little bastard never learns to not be a brat and will always speak his mind 😆💕🥰

I just love it when a gruff parental character does the whole “They aren’t my kid. At least not by blood or on paperwork they aren’t, but in every other possible way, they’re mine. In every damn way that counts, they’re my kid and I will forever love and protect them as such.” rant with tears in their eyes and devotion in their voice and my heart just breaks and heals again every single fucking time.

What's your favourite evil literary trope and favourite good literary trope, and if they battled which would win?
YOOOO. Yo. Yo. I’m already so excited to answer this, this is such a good question, even though I’m not …100% sure what this means. If I misconstrue what you’re saying or something I mention doesn’t qualify or you wanna hear about…idk, second favorites, you can totally ask again. I love talking about. Media. oughhh…hmmmm…oh, I’m gonna go on a while aren’t I? Sorry in advance.
Okay, like, any trope that occurs in books? Most of my favorite tropes are the same across any medium. Does like, a character trope work? Like an archetype? Bc I do have a lot of favorite archetypes if they count. They’re usually my favorite kinds of tropes and easier to label as good or evil.
My favorite type of evil character is probably the good ol’ mad scientist. I’m SUCH a sucker for them. Anyone who knows me will tell you.
As for good, heroic character…hm…is strong woman a trope? Like lady knights, buff ladies, the one woman in the military squad that does not get Love Interest-Ed and probably dies….I think it’s kinda a trope, a rarer one, but it’s there.
In a fight, it’s probably easier to guess who’ll win since they’re characters but it still depends to me. If we’re allowed weapons, prep time, etc. etc…mad scientist is probably winning. They tends to have more plot armor too, while strong ladies Usually aren’t the protagonists but more dispensable side characters. Sudden fist fight tho? Idk if it matters what kind of strong warrior lady we go with, mad scientists are so regularly portrayed as having the constitution of a paper bag. I love both tropes sm tho, when a mad scientist is good, when a buff lady is evil, when they meet, when they don’t, when they’re enemies, when they’re friends, when they working for each other, when they’re kissinWho said that
Now, if we mean ANYTHING BUT character tropes uhh. Well thankfully I’ve been watching a lot of Overly Sarcastic Productions, I got some fresh in my mind.
okay…so like…a good plot trope and a evil plot trope? Mmm that’s harder, uh.
Ooo can I say when the bad guy gets a redemption? Power of friendship style? It’s probably a good trope. I love it sm, idc how cheesy it can get. As long as it’s slapdash and not just so the hero can make out sloppy style with the villain in good conscious, I always get incredibly soft about it. If its the hero winning them over with friendship, if they’re just genuinely working for good now to suit their own selfish means, if it’s just the villain realizing “oh…I have Not been as good as I thought.”, if they just get bound by some dare or curse to work for good now, etc. it’s always so fun to me.
As far as evil? It’s harder for me to think of an evil plot trope. I’m tempted say like, the plot twist where a main character was the evil one all along? But I specifically love the ones where THAT CHARACTER did not know it until the twist, due to amnesia or brainwashing or they were a sleeper agent. It IS evil but is it a trope? And also it’s like, a gateway into “redemption of a bad character” but AGAIN. How about “the horrors were manmade all along”? You see some scary monster or some eldtrich god or kaiju or malfunctioning robot overlord and wonder how this happened, and it’s eventually revealed that like “oh. Some scientist had a lot of hubris. Some military group wanted a better weapon. Just some rich guy was curious. Behind the monster was a Frankenstein.”. Pretty good stuff imo. And I think it qualifies as evil. The horror is usually malicious and the creator is usually evil or at least misguided in some definition. Man I’m a sucker for a hubristic downfall…probably why I love mad scientists sm. Or vise versa.
Now, in a fight? I think “the horrors were manmade, humanity destroyed itself, the downfall of your hubris” is absolutely Destroying “bad guy become good guy [brought to you by friendship <3]”. The horrors May be able to be converted but like. Fat chance.
Thank you for coming to my TEDtalk, IM SORRY I WENT ON SO LONG
I kept getting caught between ‘fanfic tag’ tropes (e.g. hurt/comfort, slow burn, fixit, only one bed, major character death, sickfic, etc.) and ‘that’s just whole genre of story’ tropes (e.g. noir detective, military group realizes they’ve been deceived and fighting for evil all along, uprising against big evil corporation, mundane boring guy doing mundane boring job is also an assassin, etc.) so I tried to keep it firmly in the middle, trying to think of normal book tropes. I’m hoping that’s what you meant? But if not, you can ask me again! I want to answer properly and I’ll happily go on again!…actually kinda hoping I got it wrong bc I disqualified so many tropes I adore while writing this, I’d love to rant about them XD maybe keep it more concise on any “next time”s though.
Thank you SM for such a good question! And if you or anyone else has their own they’d like to share, I’d be happy to listen :3c|

Hey! Hope you’re taking care of yourself <3
I’m interested in your favourite tropes vs your least favourite tropes? As well as favourite vs least favourite character dynamics? Thanks! :)
Favorite Tropes:
Fake Dating
Arranged Marriage (bonus if they’re royalty or at least one of them is)
Found Family
Enemies to Lovers/Rivals to lovers
Love-hate relationships
Slow Burn romance
Second Loves (if it’s done right)
Physically weak/average male characters with arcs that having nothing to do with getting strong
Rags to Riches
Pirates (is that a trope?)
Space westerns (that’s probably more a genre)
Least Favorite Tropes:
Love triangles (I despise almost nothing more)
That things romances do where the protagonist’s long time crush ends up being a horrible, terrible person because apparently that’s the only way to justify them choosing the main love interest. Like why does there have to be something wrong with them? Why can’t they just decide they don’t like the person anymore?
Strong female characters who aren’t actually strong female characters (either because they don’t actually do anything, or because they’re emotionless robots that think they’re better than everyone)
Affairs/cheating (especially when the person they’re having an affair with is endgame). I don’t feel like I can support the relationship when they’re hurting other people in the process.
Isekai. Well, more specifically, reincarnation isekai. I know it’s popular but I just hate it. Do you know how many times I start reading a fantasy story that could genuinely stand on its own as it is, and the main character suddenly goes “you know I’m not actually the princess, I’m actually a 28 year old woman from 2022 who was hit by a bus and reincarnated into the body of my favorite fantasy character” and then the fact they’re actually from 2022 has almost nothing to do with the plot? Aggggh! Sorry, I could go on forever.
Rich, hot man falls in love with girl whose only personality traits are being messy and clumsy.
Childhood sweethearts. I don’t know why, but as soon as I find out halfway through the story that they knew each other as children, I get mad. There are very few exceptions.
Favorite Character Dynamics:
Sorry I’m advance these are mostly romantic dynamics
Sunshine and grumpy (romantic or platonic)
Alien x human (like imagine a Star Trek setting where they are coworkers on a star ship and need to learn each others cultures or like awkward first contact, also acceptable )
Monster x human (this can range from vampires to werewolves to sirens to whatever)
Villain x villain
Bromances (just ultra platonically devoted to each other)
Strong female x weak(er) male
Popular girl x unpopular/nerdy boy (I don’t see this one a ton, its usually the reverse)
Tol x smol
Flirty x stoic
Least Favorite Character Dynamics:
Adult x minor (unless they’re two years apart, it’s very uncomfortable for me)
Teacher x student (unless that student is in college and their professor is close to them in age)
I feel like there has to be more, but for some reason I’m totally blanking.
