Rambling thoughts on Colin Farrell's Penguin, specifically the prosthetics.
Firstly, fat suits really have come a long way. I've been seeing numerous people salivating over his naked scenes (and rightly so) and it amuses me that those aren't real flesh. I hope it reinforces the view that casting fat actors wouldn't detract from the sex appeal. A genuinely fat man could have shown us a similar hairy, thick chest and we'd have been just as rabid.
Also it would have spared Farrell from having to wear such heavy makeup which I know frustrated him. It's great for the makeup department who get to see their handiwork admired but surely could have been easier all round with a fat actor.
I was also excited that the show chose to display his damaged foot which really drove home the agony behind his 'waddle'. Yeah, it's cute to see a penguin walk but it's really no laughing matter.
