hi!
you can call me coco(a) (she/her). i wanted to make a quick "about me" type post so you can know a little more about my corner of this digital space. hold on, i want to get cozy. i do a lot of writing at a desk for work, but this blog is like my diary, so I'm gonna make a hot tea first. brb.
okay, i'm back.
here's 10 random things i'd like to share:
-i'm so grateful to live in a busy city where working in fashion is accessible! i moved to the city for that v reason! up close & personal
-under the umbrella of a fashion marketing degree: fashion buying, fashion merchandising, social media and brand management, luxury fashion, data analysis, trend forecasting, and other fun things like excel and adobe xx
-i lovelovelove to read! one of the main ways I enjoy studying fashion for leisure is by doing lots and lots of reading. i'll also play an audiobook sometimes, too!
-i'm obsessed w/fashion magazines, always have been! i love reading actually physical magazine articles, especially my faves- Vogue!
-i just started sex in the city, and it's what inspired me to start a blog. i'm still figuring things out tho
-i have rly bad adhd but i've always been a good study-person. i'm not sure how that works, but because i rly love to study and do heavy research as well, i'm thinking i'll prob be sharing study-related things on here (?). i'm not sure yet (thoughts?)
-i really like lists. they help me stay organized for you and for me. i tend to lose my train of thought easily sometimes
-i'm really hoping to build a community here eventually! I know that may be precocious to say since i just started, but
-i'm also trying: self-affirmation, self-talk, etc. this is new to me and was introduced by my therapist, so if you have any cool things to share i'm so open <3
-unless i'm super focused on listening to music, i prob have something on the TV in the background. idk, it's soothing to me like a familiar friend! currently, yes I watch a ton of reality shows because I love how they dress :3 (!)
nice to meet ya! so there's a little bit about me. i'll be posting very regularly, several times a day. if you read this far, thank you! xx

BLOG POST: An Insight Into Graduate Fashion Week 2019
For many fashion students, one of the things that they look forward to at the end of their terms/years is Graduate Fashion Week. For students in their first or second years, it’s the perfect opportunity for them to go to an event to see what kinds of things are being explored by young designers from other Universities. It’s also good for second years (like me) to possibly see what everything will be leading up to at the end of their next and final year.

For third years, it's the final hurdle of your degree where you put everything you've learnt into practice for a chance to be in GFW. It’s the chance for them to show off their collections and portfolio’s of work to the industry that they have been perfecting and honing since the previous September. GFW helps with giving students the opportunity to put their work out there and giving them that first push into the fashion industry. People are able to visit GFW to see runway shows of the third years final collections and visit the stands of the Universities who take part in GFW each year. It isn’t as well known as LFW but can be helpful with building a platform for new designers.

Evelyne Babin From University For The Creative Arts, Epsom was named the winner of the Hilary Alexander Trailblazer Award, Sponsored By Swarovski at GFW 2018
What goes into making your collection?
Before you even get to GFW, there’s a lot of work that actually has to go into getting a collection ready. You have from January to the May to create your collection starting with researching into a theme or concept that means something to you or that you find interesting. Then from your research, creating/developing 2D designs and translating them into 3D designs/silhouettes on a mannequin, fabric board, pattern cutting, toiling each outfit, creating a portfolio of all your work and then making the actual collection itself. You also have to think about things like models, music for the show itself and styling including making your own accessories such as earrings, hats, bags, shoes etc.
University For The Creative Arts, Epsom Catwalk
I went to GFW again this year in order to see my University’s catwalk show (University For The Creative Arts, Epsom) because I wanted to see the third years final collection as throughout the year I had been able to see some of their work in the studios. I was really looking forward to the show before I went. Pictured below are some of the photos of the show that I managed to take.

Graduate Fashion Week Trends
From looking at the work leading up to GFW, I felt like neon colours was one of the trends and a popular choice for a collections colour palette as I always saw it a lot on instagram. I always look at instagram to see what could possibly come up during GFW, especially when it comes to things like textiles in a collection. I thought that there was a lot of cool accessories this year, especially from Ravensbourne University. Students are really able to think about the kinds of styling that they want to do in order to accompany their clothes as they walk down the runway. I have also noticed that more students are designing with things like sustainability in mind which is incredibly important in our day and age.

Graduate Fashion Week  Awards
Students are able to take part in competitions during the few days that GFW is on by entering their own work and also they can be nominated for awards too. Some of the awards are: Accessories award sponsored by YKK, conscious design award sponsored by Swarovski, the Christopher Bailey collection of the year, Womenswear award, Menswear award, Hilary Alexander Trailbrazer award and many more. A lot of high street brands are sponsoring awards (M&S, Gap, Fat Face, TU clothing) as well as working with students too. For example, the photos below are from two different capsule collections that have been designed for TU clothing. I particularly liked the one that was designed for women because of how cute the designs are, especially the prints too.

My Final Year...
“I can’t wait for September as I will be moving into my third year at University and I have chosen the collection pathway which means I will be creating my own 6 outfit collection. I’m quite nervous as I know that it’s a lot of work and will take a lot of time to create the work but I’m also extremely excited. It will be the year that I can finally showcase my own point of view and style in the industry.”

@martina__dandrea is a super talented makeup artist and beauty editor. She attended a fashion course at IED and two makeup schools. Beauty was her passion since she was a child, and from her first work experiences, she realized that makeup is a fundamental component in the construction of the image, so she found her expression in it. Diary for my 1st month placement ( 2.Jan.2019-31. Jan.2019)
My 1st placement, of my university's life, is started in January 2019,in Preen By Thornton Bregazzi. It is a brand found in 1996 by Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi in London. Their designs are dark romantic and effortless, by comparing  the masculine with feminine, there are always some different textures were brought out. Since 2001, the London fashion show for Spring and Summer, the brand concept would given out that punkish sensibilities with vintage elements and hand crafted details. It is also because of its different essence, after 20 years, Preen became popular and globally, with some celebrities supporting, such as  Kate Bosworth, Beyonce, Rihanna.
My role in Preen By Thornton Bregazzi is basically helping the design and production team to complete their final collections. So literally, the daily tasks are cutting the fabrics and making toiles for them, That could help them to improve and finish their finally designs. Sometimes, some hard craft is asked to be done, for example embroideries.
It is also because I am working in the design team, so industrial technologies were learnt, especially for pattern cutting and sewing. Referring to my own design, patterns are widely used and I prefer to design my own patterns, from the internship, the way of matching pattern on the garments are learnt. From the observations and the toiles making, I also learnt some pattern making, for the design, and then how it would be connected to the sewing.
Not only that, the ways of cutting different types of fabric were been known. Fabric shortage records were also could be the task for me. Their arrangements and the recordings could be a very good way to know and manage their fabrics shortages. And I have been seen and known lots of different fabrics.
During the internship, some purchasing of materials, for the design, might be asked. Hence, lots of fabrics stores and accessories stores have been, and i have found out the some of them could be quite useful for my future design, such as ideal toile fabrics, wadding and cord end, etc.
Although the tasks are usually massive and difficult, they tough me lots of thing that I did not learnt before and the ways of managing the tasks, and then solving problems. Term works would be the best idea of that, supporting and helping each other.
The London Fashion show is coming, and interns were asked to support the show, Hopefully there would be more interesting things would be learnt during the time.
Because I am currently new to London, some interesting photos, in personal view, were taken while I was travelling around the city. ( The photos would be posted later.)
