lol aot has a lot of writing issues imo and some of the politics i find very messy and i think u can always come for it about the execution as well as how certain elements are integrated but i personally was always pretty ??? at some of the more extreme allegations i hear thrown at it in terms of its thematic core because it is hilariously and almost embarrassingly unsubtle about a lot of its messages. i also think people who try to read it as a 1:1 direct allegory for any conflict instead of something fictional that burrows elements from all over history (for better or worse) to convey its themes are gonna run into a lot of contradictions. and even the author was legitimately shocked at some of those interpretations (like early on the one claiming that the text was endorsing japanese militarisation while the titans represented china and north and south korea)

i think it should be engaged with critically and i think it fails at many things but im just glad that the 100% fascist chad eren dicksucker part of its fanbase was completely alienated by an ending that accentuated just how pathetic and childish he is

I don't trust white queer or trans people

What this "woc have higher levels of T" and "Black women don't fit eurocentric hormone levels" ( said by left leaning people ) shows is what many of you take away is WOC, especially Black women are seen as masculine because you think there is a biological basis for this idea and don't see it the same way people see police calling Black men and boys bigger or holding a gun to justify police brutality

White queer people love the " how can you tell someone's hormone levels without a test" until they're presented with a Black woman then they know and they're happy to say whatever unscientific neo-race science shit about Black women they like to prove a point about not making assumptions about peoples bodies but Black women aren't people, we're points, tools and vehicles for credibility so we're whatever your argument needs to work. Tbh i think the only reason many of you even use that line wrt trans people is trans people can be white. If only Black people were trans, many of you would be comfortable pushing ideas you call fascist when conservatives do it. White people always find a way to present themselves as more evolved than the lowly existence Black women occupy because why are you talking about my body and why do i see people claiming stereotypes that DO NOT apply to Black women apply to us like being hairy. All many of you have taken away is treating Black women like a modern day 3rd gender so OF COURSE we're treated differently, our bodies are problem others need to learn to stomach and taken the focus off the fact we're seen as aggressive because of the legacy of slavery. You can not own people as property and present them as people, you need a justification for enslaving an entire group of people. You lot genuinely think Black women are being targeted because we are different and brutishly made. The blame goes from the people doing this to casting Black women's bodies as a gender conundrum that has yet to be solved. Slave masters were never confused.

Its easier to justify slavery and colonialism when you pretend the people you're doing it to aren't people the way you are as white person, they aren't civilised and many of you have come to this conclusion about us again and don't see the issue of YOU finding a scapegoat to distract from your violent behaviour.

You lot hear " Black women don't fit white femininity" and you think yes, its because they're universally all big Black brutes and you think its leftism because buzzword buzzword and we're meant to see this as solidarity because you got some self loathing Black woman to agree. Black women are seen as masculine as an excuse to abuse and rape us, its not simply some issue of representation or accepting us, its used to justify harm and many of you have taken a discussion of violence against Black women and erased violence against Black women from it. And then have the gall to call it solidarity and not white entitlement when you've ignored our history and suffering

Let us make Europe a safe haven for American transgender refugees (and we need your help)

A Dutch LGBTQ ally and activist hopes to turn the Netherlands into a haven for transgender refugees from the US. But he needs help. He asks transgender Americans to provide stories he can use to pressure Dutch politicians. We should strive to make more European countries places of refuge.

The battle for America's democratic soul is not over, and the pro-democracy forces may win. But transgender people have already become the scapegoats of fascists and religious fanatics. The Republican Party is doing all it can to erase trans people's existence through laws and propaganda.

It is time to prepare for the unthinkable: A transgender "underground railroad" to Europe.

There are already organizations out there that helps LGBTQ people escape from oppressive regimes, but it does not look like they have been prepared for an American trans exodus (see for instance The Rainbow Railroad and Immigration Equality).

I was recently contacted by a Dutch trans ally who calls himself Ned McRant online. His idea is to put up online resources that can help transgender Americans who need to flee to Europe, and in particular the Netherlands.

Formally it is already possible for transgender Americans to move to this country, but he wants Dutch politicians to get engaged in a pro-trans resettlement policy.

The American anti-trans policies

He writes:

"For the past fourteen years, I have closely followed political developments in the United States. What I have learned fills me with great concern—not only for that nation’s future but also for the global impact of its actions. The information I receive from reliable sources often diverges significantly from what is reported in Dutch news. My understanding of American history and politics enables me to recognize the seriousness of the threats at hand. The situation has escalated since Donald Trump’s rise to power. A major threat comes in the form of a vision called Project 2025, crafted by the Heritage Foundation, a fundamentalist Christian think tank. This manifesto is essentially a blueprint for transforming the United States into a theocracy, similar to nations like Iran but based on Christian fundamentalism. Although Trump denies involvement, he is already implementing parts of this plan. My personal investment in this issue stems from my unwavering support for the LGBTQ+ community, particularly my friendships with transgender individuals. In the U.S., "coming out" as gay or transgender has become life-threatening. Under Project 2025, the fundamental rights of transgender individuals are being systematically dismantled. In some states, there is even talk of forcing them to de-transition a horrific process that strips them of their identity and happiness. Access to essential medication like HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) is being denied, pushing many to despair and even suicide. While the Netherlands cannot stop this political madness, we can make a difference. We can offer a safe haven to those who have nowhere else to turn. Through our friendship treaty with the U.S., Americans can already settle in the Netherlands. However, specific support for LGBTQ+ refugees is lacking."

Getting stories from American trans people

Ned has sent letters to Dutch parliamentarians, making arguments similar to these. He has asked them to investigate how the country can help persecuted transgender Americans and build a support network in the Netherlands.

This approach can also be used in other European countries.

Ned says that he plans to contact them over and over again, adding stories based on the real life experiences of American trans people. To do this he needs input from transgender Americans. If you want to help, contact Ned at Ned.McRant@gmail.com.

There's something I've been meaning to talk about for a while now.

It's the impact of the trans rights movement on the Romani feminist and gay rights movements.

Now, most Romani rights organizations are very disconnected from the Romani masses. They really don't speak for us at all. Most of them get private fundings from the EU and billionaires like Soros (x). That's what leads a lot of Romani feminist groups to supporting the sex trade (x), despite Romani women being among the first victims of sex trafficking in Europe (x).

With the trans rights movement, we've got Romani feminist groups praising Romani men for taking the place of Romani women. Antonella Lerca Duda, a Romanian Romani transwoman, is featured on many Romani feminist posts whose aim is to present empowering Romani women (x) (x). Antonella Lerca Duda is "the first transexual Romani woman to run for mayor in Romania".

German Romani feminist organization RomaniPhen even chose to include his portrait in their post about powerful Romani women - instead of chosing to picture an actual Romani woman (x). Duda also created a "sex work" organization that fights for the decriminalization of prostitution. He's not our sister and he doesn't fight for Romani women. Yet he was even invited to co-write and star in a play from the only female-only Romani theater troup in the world, Giuvlipen, once again taking the job that could have gone to an actual Romani female playwright and to an actual Romani female actress (x).

In Spain, the trans movement is piggybacking on the back of the Romani rights movement. "Trans women" and "Gitanas" are associated in a manner much similar to what the TRA movement is doing in the US by associating "Trans people" and "Black women". Thus Spanish Senator Teresa Ruiz-Sillero recently said that ""Personas LGTBI (en particular trans), inmigrantes, personas gitanas" se considerarán "colectivos vulnerables de atención prioritaria"." ("LGBTI people (trans in particular), immigrants, romani people" will be considered "vulnerable groups to give a priority attention to") (x)

Many tweets from popular TRA Spanish accounts associate Romani women and trans women (I'm only gonna add three examples because this post is already long; you can look up "gitanas + trans" on twitter to judge by yourself):

And many Spanish Romani activists and organizations are denouncing TERFs as fascist and fighting for self-ID laws

Nevermind the fact that Romani women desperately need sex-segregated spaces considering that Romani women are particularly vulnerable to domestic violence and sexual assaults (x). Nevermind the fact that saying Romani women are not female because we're Romani is inherently racist.

But it's even worse when we think about the Romani gay rights movement. As opposed to many other gay rights movements, the Romani one is very recent. Which means we never got to build up a proper LGB Romani movement detached from "queer theory". We never got a movement only dedicated to SSA Roma, because trans and queer activists are behind all our LGBT groups. Gender rhetoric is deeply embedded in the Romani gay rights movement.

Here's a clip from the ERRC, the largest Romani rights organization in Europe, organizing a workshop on LGBTIQ Roma in the Balkan and in Spain. No lesbian or bi woman is present in this video. There's only one (straight) woman. The person with the longest speaking time is a TIM. This is particularly bad considering Romani orgs have a tendency to ignore Romani women's voices (x).

Ara Art is one of the largest Romani LGBT organization in Europe. On their website, they have interviews with trans Roma. These interviews are deeply sexist and homophobic: here's one in which a gay boy raised in a homophobic family comes out as a trans woman. This story is framed in a positive light.

Romani organizations are repeating the lie that Stonewall was started by "trans women" and are further erasing gay men and lesbians from their own history (x). They publish articles framing LGB Roma's sexuality as "sexual dissidence" (x). By supporting the trans rights movement, orgs like Ververipen, Ara Art and ERRC are supporting the sterilization of LGB Roma. All over Europe, Romani organizations hold conferences to discuss "LGBTIQ rights" (x) and are interviewing Romani TRAs (x), all in order to fight for trans rights (that last link even includes an interview with a biromantic asexual transman lmao). There's no LGB rights movement that exists outside of the gender realm for Roma.

Gadje newspapers are writing articles about "Queer Roma" (x). Gadje academics are writing gender theory thesis about "Queer Roma" (x).

This doesn't help LGB Roma. In my so-called progressive, Western European country, my Romani relatives used to tell me that LGBs were deviant perverts while I was growing up. My local Romani community openly calls for the lynching of LGB Roma. Most European Roma are deeply religious (muslim or christian), sometimes to the point of being fundamentalists. The vast majority of European Roma are working class and don't care about "queer theory".

Yet the associations that are supposed to be fighting for us are reinforcing the idea that LGBs are perverts and that not supporting the homophobic trans ideology makes you a fascist. Since Romani rights groups are all very recent, we never even got the chance to make our own movements before we got swipped into the gender trend.

The trans rights movement is actively harming Romani women, LGB Roma, Romani feminist and Romani gay rights movements.

I am sorry, dear, that dark clouds are looming over your bright and colorful land of magic. In my lifetime, I’ve had the pleasure of encountering a few young Indian people (both in real life and online), and I have a lot of love and respect for your nation and its culture. I am sure that brighter days are awaiting both our homelands.

You see, what I’ve noticed is that some people often confuse their fatherland with their government. The hatred that they have toward the latter often taints the love and respect they ought to have toward their homeland. But, once and for all, we must remember that these two are not synonymous. Fatherland is a place where the roots of history, culture and identity intertwine. A fatherland is not just a geographical location; it is a sanctuary of shared memories, values and traditions passed down through generations. It represents the collective spirit of a people, their history, struggles and triumphs. To call a place one's fatherland is to cherish it as a cradle of life, as one’s own home.

To me, the love one has for their fatherland is like a mathematical function that always moves towards infinity (its designated final value) but never quite reaches it. One can never love their fatherland enough. There’s always something more you can do, there’s always something better you can do. I guess the vessel that carries one’s love toward their homeland is only ever fully filled when one gives up their life to protect their fatherland.

I can only speak from my own experience – I was raised historically and, more or less, politically conscious. When you’re a six or seven-year-old impressionable kid and you visit The Museum of The Armenian Genocide of 1915, you see the photographs, the articles, all the documentation that exists – firstly, you’ll never be the same again, and secondly, your naïve childish brain thinks that, as you’ve always been told, whenever someone commits a crime or does something bad, they get punished. Then I looked around and noticed that these heinous crimes, these massacres, were not only left unpunished, but the whole thing was swept under the rug by the world, as if it never happened. Then you grow up, sharing borders with the enemy, the dagger of war swaying upon your head, with every new day bringing more and more deaths of Armenian soldiers serving on the border. You see your enemy disrespecting you, your history and your culture. You see them erasing your history and your culture … and all of this is accompanied by the crickets of the world. Then there’s Western Armenia calling for us, a topic that I plan on writing more about. And at last, our Ararat that you can see so very clearly from Armenia …

And, alongside this, there’s this immense pride you feel in being an heir to a nation that created a culture so distinctly beautiful, a nation that gave birth to luminaries such as Grigor Narekaci, Sayat-Nova, Hovhannes Toumnyan, Vahan Teryan, Eghishe Charenc, Daniel Varujan, Paruyr Sevak, Misak Metsarenc, Silva Kaputikyan, Hovhannes Grigoryan, Vardges Petrosyan, Martiros Saryan, Sergey Parajanov, Shahan Nathalie, Gurgen Yanikyan, Monte Melqonyan, and the list goes on … the nation that invented color television, ATMs, hand-held hair dryers, coffee machines, PET scans, MRI and so much more.

PSA/personal rant

I've decided something.

If they come for me, for being trans or for some other bullshit reason, they're going to do it regardless of whether I start censoring myself now. Regardless of whether I go back in the closet or do anything else to change myself, the genie is out of the bottle. "Transsexualism" is all over my medical records as the ICD-10 code used to bill my insurance company for my testosterone. No amount of digital scrubbing is going to completely erase evidence of my transness.

And no matter how small or acceptable I make myself, it'll never be enough. So I'm going to stop censoring myself and try to find my voice again.

I've been wrestling with this for a while, with the question of what to fucking do, knowing what might be coming. One of the things that's been really helpful is reading queer history, so I've been doing some of that. It helps to remember that there are people who came before me who had to fight, too, because there have been people like us forever.

The way things like this work is partly by breaking your spirit, so you have to refuse to be broken by it. And sometimes, you know, you might wonder if you're going to be able to do that, or if you'll crack one day and just not be able to handle it anymore. Maybe you're like me, and you feel like a scared little kid sometimes, and it scares you that you feel that way, because you never thought you'd feel that way again.

Maybe I'm stupid, but even knowing what I know of history and politics and everything else, some part of me really wanted to believe this would never happen here. It's that part of me that wants to find something good in a situation, even if it's small, and not in an "it could be worse" way, but as if to say, "at least there's something good here now." It's the part of me that wants to understand people before assuming they're bad or acting maliciously. It's also unfortunately the part of me that's spent way too much time trying to find a reason to convince myself I'm wrong. I tried to find some reason to not believe the facts, and in the process, I found even more to support what I had previously thought, and very little to contradict it.

As important as it is to study fascism and patriarchy and all the forces at work here as they exist now and in terms of their historical roots, it's also important to spend time focusing on the history of those oppressed by those forces.

Fascism is pernicious. It's greedy and insatiable, and it has that in common with capitalism, or at the very least with this version of capitalism. And so it tends to become like a Jenga tower after a while; it may look sturdy and stable, but in reality, one brick being removed or even a slight breeze could topple it.

Fascism is also theatrical. It has to be. When there's no substance to your shtick, all you've got is flash and flair. Studying fascism is core to defeating it, and perhaps more importantly, to understanding that it can be defeated in the first place.

But as a trans and queer person, I'm finding more comfort in reading history about people like me, people who lived through times that were terrible for people like me, who were victimized and chewed up and spit out by it, and who had the strength to keep being their authentic selves. Because when I'm not sure if I have the strength, I have to remind myself that others probably felt the same way. That's how the fascists want you to feel. They want you to feel broken and let fear consume you. And it's one thing you as an individual simply cannot allow.

I'm here to tell you, it's okay to be scared. But if you stop being your authentic self because some fascist dipshit wants you to, then the fascists have already won. And if they're coming for us, we might as well live and fight with the time we have left. If you really can't do this safely, if you're in a situation where you have to hide or be seriously harmed or killed, then hiding is totally understandable. But if you're wondering whether you should hide and change yourself because of the recent election, the answer is no.

My body and mind have been trying to kill me for decades. These fascist fuckwits aren't special. I'm scared, and I'll be scared for a while, but I've decided I'm done letting that run me. It's not worth it. If I survive out of spite, at least I survive. And if I die, I'm going down swinging.

Fuck the fascists and fuck the apologists. Fuck anybody who tries to tell me this shit isn't a real threat when it very much is. Just surviving the next several years is going to be the most "doing it scared" I've ever done anything in my life, but I'm still gonna fucking do it. I didn't claw my way back from the brink of death from eating disorders half a dozen times to roll over and conform to their bullshit, which would essentially mean killing myself.

I don't want to physically fight anybody, but I live in Florida, and I think I have to be realistic. Hopefully one day in the near future I will no longer live in Florida, but I feel the need now more than ever to be able to protect myself and, if necessary, others. So I'm going to get serious about my nutrition and make myself get out and walk an hour each day, to start. Then work in weight training and work up to running or biking. I used to be a runner and liked it a lot, but I don't know how to ride a bike and want to learn. I have one at my dad's and just need to get it, so that's just a matter of time, really. I would also love to take boxing or MMA lessons.

But the point is, I don't know what's going to happen. None of us do. All I can do right now is work on myself and try to find a way to get involved with my community directly, here where I live and/or online. I'm also working on a guide to switching to Linux from Windows and why it's worth considering, since I have that background experience and figure that's going to be useful information to some people. I'll also include resources for fixing and modding certain electronics, because my hobby for a while in my 20s was tinkering with computers. Well, I say "hobby." My laptop got stolen and I basically had no choice but to build a PC from spare parts, and the specs were pretty awful, so Windows ran at a snail's pace and crashed ALL THE TIME. So I taught myself to use Linux instead, and the rest is history. Survival teaches you to be resourceful, which is one of the few things I actually like about myself.

My point is, these are things I've identified that I can do that will help me, and they're helping me in ways that often also mean I'm helping others, which is important to me. Maybe there are things you can do, too, and figuring out what those things are will help you with that feeling of powerlessness and helplessness that can creep up. Remember that they want you to feel powerless and helpless, and if you really were, they wouldn't be working so hard to make you feel that way.

They don't want you to fight, and they think that if they convince you that you can't win, you won't bother to try.

They're wrong. That's exactly why we HAVE to fight.

Studying history will remind you of why they're wrong. Studying YOUR history, as a queer person, may help you draw strength and courage from those who came before us. It's been helping me.

(Once again, if you are in a situation where, say, you're living with family who are not safe to come out to, then please, prioritize your safety. I'd like to make a guide to help people do that, too, and I've added it to my list of ways I might be able to help. Small things add up, and if I make one person feel less alone and afraid, then at least I've done something good and worthwhile today.)

Seriously, the government had already started erasing us, but now two things have taken place that for me as a genocide scholar are the ultimate emergency alarm bells: halting of any "DEI" celebrations, which include Holocaust Remembrance; and not providing passports to trans people.

The second is more important, so I'll start with the first one: stopping Holocaust Remembrance is halting a work to memorialize genocide, to help people understand what it was, what it meant, and what are warning signs of such a thing happening. Now, the lack of passports is the most concerning, because it means they don't want trans people to be able to travel freely.

Now, genocide always starts from a feeling of wanting a group gone. The most natural firs measure is to push them away, isolate them in society, and even ethnic cleansing. That's what's being done with immigrants right now. Normally, if the group is just leaving, that works. It achieves the objective. BUT, when a regime wants a group gone and ALSO doesn't want them to leave, that means they've decided on a course of action: mass killing.

That has is the state the United States are now in. They have declared and made abundantly clear, through speeches and policy, that they want us gone. And now they're taking steps so we can't leave.

PLEASE if you're trans in the United States, GET OUT OF THERE. Make plans to leave as soon as possible. Now, again, they're not making it easy. It's never easy for refugees. But it is survival. Go, however you can, to other countries. Plenty of countries in the Americas have good LGBTQ+ protections in the law, such as Brazil. Closest to the United States, there's Canada, Mexico (seriously, Mexico has long-standing protections for the community), and Cuba (which has been making significant strides in that field). You can go either to those countries, or to an embassy of a country, and request asylum (embassies can get people out). I can't promise they'll give it, but I would bet at least some would. France, if I remember correctly, has stated they're open to American queer people.

That said, if you are able to (physically, emotionally), do stay. Stay and fight. Find or form militant groups. A militant group won't fight and beat the regime head-on. Work to weaken the regime (research all the various tactics used by resistance movements throughout history. It's always surreptitious, guerrilla tactics, counter-propaganda, sabotage). But MOST important is the work of helping others. Protect those who haven't left yet, set up routes to help people leave (safe houses, trusted people, including in the government, creating documentation, etc), establish partnerships if you can.

Please, do what you can. The situation is dire, and moved far faster than I thought it would. But it is not the end. We survive, we persevere, we fight back. They never succeed.

P.S. If you're a transphobe, a fascist, or a Republican or Trump supporter, kindly fuck right off. You have supported a regime and policy of destruction and death, and so many are about to suffer and die. It is your fault. And just as you decided that you do not want to share the Earth with trans people and likely several other groups, no one else has to want to share the Earth with you. What did the Godzilla film do?

So the thing about the new Godzilla Minus One film is that I have seen it being praised as a progressive film that criticizes Imperial Japan and its fascism and warmongering, except like with Miyazaki's films (eg. The Wind Rises), it only does so to the extent of how it affected the Japanese internally, as if they were the sole victims and the millions the regime mass murdered didn't exist - it's similar to how American 'anti-war' films, especially about Vietnam and Iraq, will only be 'anti-war' in so far as they criticize how Americans themselves were wronged while conveniently erasing or obscuring the actual victims of American imperialism, ie. the Vietnamese and Iraqis.

Now, obviously, people can make films about whatever they want, and I'm not saying the film is politically evil or should be boycotted, but it's definitely a pattern among 'anti-war' films from Japan and the US to hold up war itself as the enemy and they themselves as its victims while leaving out the whole, hey, why were you guys at war anyway? And what were you doing to the people you were at war with? There's a reason why these 'anti-war' films are so popular in the West bc you can feel good about 'war is bad' without having to self-examine your complicity in imperialism, and in the case of Japan, the West right now sees Japan as the Good Asians (this aspect of Yellow Peril is always in flux) and has this weird view of Japan that is both in infantalizing and Orientalizing, so any discussion of the shitty parts of the country's history gets swept under a weeb rug.

Also, the film is blatantly nationalistic, like, the heroes are ex-fascist soldiers who were previously humiliated and defeated, but will rise again heroically (and again, what exactly were they doing when they were defeated, and why is Imperial Japan being defeated during WWII a bad thing, and to whom?), the protagonist is a kamikaze pilot who had dishonoured himself earlier by not crashing his plane into a warship, but redeems himself by doing exactly that later (but surviving), you have sentiments like how Japan wouldn't have lost the war if people were less cowardly, etc. - like, if you know the historical context of the Pacific theatre, it's very obvious, but if your knowledge of Japan is like, Ghibli films and maybe the post-war context of the US occupation and the anti-communism of the Cold War, I can see how people, especially Westerners, would miss all of that and think it's about defying US imperialism and the atomic bombings; and in the case of the latter, I think the rightful reactions against Oppenheimer have unintentionally gone the other way where people are overcompensating by defending Japan beyond that, and it's frustrating bc using the atomic bombings to shut down accountability for war crimes is definitely a thing.
