In November 2019, reports stated that Munna Bhai duo Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi will be back on the big screen in a comedy film. Recently, it was revealed that Sanjay will play the role of a blind don whereas Arshad will be his eyes. While the film is yet to roll, co-producer Sandip Ssingh has clarified on the casting reports and has cited that the process is underway.

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Sandip Ssingh said, “This film is being produced by me, Sanjay Dutt and Anand Pandit. We are producing the film together but the problem is we have not yet finalized the casting of the film. It keeps coming out that Arshad Warsi is in the film and this person is there, etc. So I just want to clear out that casting is under process. The script which is written by Sajid and Farhad Samji is also in process. I don't know from where this casting news is coming out from, as we are still in process.”

“This is a big film with two leading ladies and there are only party club numbers. The casting has taken us one year to put it all together. These films have to go beyond Golmaal and Dhamaal franchises. So we need to set a new example. There's a franchise of Golmaal films and it's a big brand. It was because of the casting and story. And even this film requires that kind of a challenge',” he adds.

The producer does admit that they had approached Arshad Warsi but things are yet to be finalized. “This is Sanjay Dutt and me coming together for the first time as producers along with Anand Pandit. We desire that Arshad Warsi should definitely be on board - I don't deny we've not approached him. If that combination comes together, I think it will be 'sone pe suhaga'. Because they both are great performers and Rajkumar Hirani was able to deliver the best in the Munna Bhai series and people have very high expectations. To live up to those expectations, Sajid and Farhad Samji are writing the script. Once everything is complete along with great music by Himesh Reshammiya, we will go ahead,” Sandip said.

The film was supposed to be set in Budapest. But with the current scenario, the makers are now reimagining the backdrop as Goa instead of Budapest. The makers had to undergo several location changes after the Coronavirus pandemic.  Speaking about the change in the venue, the producer revealed, “This is true that we were going abroad to shoot and we were about to shoot soon. But, there were a few key castings to be done. We desire that we get the casting which we want to. We were supposed to shoot with the entire cast in Budapest but unfortunately, it won't be possible. Now, we are planning to shoot the entire film in India like in Goa and Mumbai among other places.”

“What makes me happy is due to Covid-19, we won't be going abroad. Though my directors would be disappointed, all the money which we want to invest will be given to India,” he said. “The sad part is we won't be getting any subsidy because in India we don't get that subsidy which we get outside India. We will make ensure that the business itself happens in India. I hope this will be a theatrical release rather than an OTT release.”

Speaking of working with so many talents, Sandeep further emphasized on his first comedy film as a producer. “This is a very big film and my first comedy film [as producer]. We have taken three years to write the script. This is also the first film for directors - Ajay Arora & Lovel Arora. Sajid & Farhad Samji are penning the dialogues and screenplay, music will be produced by Himesh Reshammiya, Director of Photography is Kiran Deohans and Production Designer is Wasiq Khan. In fact, this is Kiran Deohans first film too in comedy space since he has previously done Agneepath, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Jodhaa Akbar,” he said.

Talking about the storyline, Sandip reveals what to expect from the film. “This film is an action comedy-drama which has a don, their bodyguards, their love interests. It has the family and love angles - it has all the fun elements. It's a very stylish action comedy-drama,” he signs off.

10 Upcoming Movies of 2019 that you should look forward to

1.      PM Narendra Modi – ‘PM Narendra Modi’ is an upcoming Indian biographical film directed by Omung Kumar and jointly produced by Suresh Oberoi, Sandip Ssingh, and Anand Pandit. The film is based on the life of Narendra Modi, and 14th Prime Minister of India; starring Vivek Oberoi in the lead role who is also credited as co-writer of the film. The first look of the film was released on 7th January 2019. The film will release in 23 different languages. The movie will release on 24 May 2019 alongside Arjun Kapor’s ‘India’s Most Wanted’.

2.      India’s Most Wanted – ‘India's Most Wanted’ is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language action thriller film directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, and starring Arjun Kapoor. The film is about tracking a terrorist in a secret mission and arresting him without firing bullets. This film also deals with a journey of Prabhat Kapoor's (played by Arjun Kapoor) life of action adventure. India's Most Wanted is inspired by the arrest of proscribed organisation Indian Mujahideen (IM) terrorist Abdul Subhan Qureshi, also referred to as India's Osama Bin Laden, in January 2018 by Delhi Police. The movie stars Arjun Kapoor, Amrita Puri and Rajesh Sharma amongst many others. The movie is going to release alongside ‘PM Narendra Modi’ on 24 May 2019.

3.      Bharat – ‘Bharat’ is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language period drama film written and directed by Ali Abbas Zafar. It is jointly produced by Atul Agnihotri, Alvira Khan Agnihotri, Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Nikhil Namit and Salman Khan under the banners Reel Life Productions, Salman Khan Films and T-Series. The film stars Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Tabu, Disha Patani and Jackie Shroff. It traces India's post-independence history from the perspective of a common man, and follows his life from the age of 18 to 70. The movie is going to release this Eid i.e. 5 June 2019.

4.      Kabir Singh – ‘Kabir Singh’ is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language drama film written and directed by Sandeep Vanga. It is a remake of his own Telugu film Arjun Reddy (2017). Jointly produced by Cine1 Studios and T-Series, the film stars Shahid Kapoor, Kiara Advani, Suresh Oberoi and Nikita Dutta amongst many others. It focuses on the title character, an alcoholic surgeon who goes on a self-destructive path after his ex-lover marries someone else. Principal photography began in October 2018, and ended in March 2019. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on 21 June 2019.

5.      Mission Mangal – ‘Mission Mangal’ (transl. Mission Mars) is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language film directed by Jagan Shakti. It stars an ensemble cast of Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu, Nithya Menen, Sharman Joshi and Sonakshi Sinha, and tells the story of scientists at Indian Space Research Organisation who contributed to the Mars Orbiter Mission, which marked India's first interplanetary expedition. The movie is said to release on the Indian Independence Day i.e. 15th August 2019.

6.      Batla House – ‘Batla House’ is an upcoming Indian Hindi action thriller film based on the Batla House encounter case that took place on 19 September 2008. The film starring John Abraham, Mrunal Thakur, Ravi Kishan and Manish Chaudhari is directed by Nikkhil Advani. Abraham plays police officer Sanjeev Kumar Yadav in the film which began filming in September 2018. It is set to release on 15 August 2019 alongside Akshay Kumar’s ‘Mission Mangal’.

7.      Saaho - Saaho is an upcoming Indian trilingual action film written and directed by Sujeeth, and produced by UV Creations and T-Series. The film stars Prabhas, Shraddha Kapoor, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Arun Vijay, Jackie Shroff and others in supporting roles. It is being shot simultaneously in Telugu, Hindi and Tamil languages. Filming began in June 2017. The film is made on a budget of ₹300 crore, which includes the use of VFX. The film was shot in Hyderabad, Mumbai, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Romania and other parts of Europe. The filming for the movie began in August 2017. Actors like Arun Vijay, Jackie Shroff, Lal, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Mandira Bedi were roped in along with the leads, Prabhas and Shraddha Kapoor. A better part of the budget was spend to shoot some action scenes for the film. Also, international stunt choreographer Kenny Bates has been zeroed in to supervise the major action scenes. The movie is said to release on 15 August 2019 alongside ‘Batla House’ and ‘Mission Mangal’.

8.      Commando 3 - Commando 3[2] is a 2019 Indian action film, directed by Aditya Datt and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah. The film features Vidyut Jamwal, Adah Sharma and Gulshan Devaiah. This film marks the Bollywood debut of Angira Dhar. The film is a sequel to the 2017 film Commando 2. The film is scheduled for release on 20th September, 2019.
