I'm a sucker for fantasy costuming. Fave Sansa fit?
Ooh, I've never received a question like this, so this was fun! 😄
I'll admit that I'm not the best with fashion, and I'm sure other people could answer this much better than me, but I'll do my best!
I love the idea of a blue dress (for House Tully) that has a grey fur trim (for House Stark) with snowflakes embroidered on it because of these quotes:
Hullen had helped her mount, and she'd ridden out with the snowflakes swirling around her, off to see the great wide world.
&
Drifting snowflakes brushed her face as light as lover's kisses, and melted on her cheeks.
I tried to find a dress that fit that description, but I wasn't able to, so I'll include a few dresses that have some of the characteristics that I imagine instead (the pictures are linked back to their source for credit).
This style dress with this fur trim:
This color blue:
And snowflakes that are similar to this pattern:
Thanks for the ask! 😊

Hey bestie! Loving An Empire For Two. Any updates?
hiii tina!!!
i’m so happy you’re liking an empire for two 🥹❤️. it’s one of my favourite fics i’ve written so far and i sometimes worry that i might have gone too niche with the storyline.
i’m more or less done with the next chapter! which has been written since last year, UNFORTUNATELY, despite having the urge to write most days, i’ve been so busy (moving into a new flat + work has been crazy).
i should be updating empire + a few more of my fics in the coming weeks as i’m slowly coming back to all of my work now.
for now, here’s a little snippet of the beginning of chapter six especially for you <3:
chapter six : winter sound
rickon — but my voice is suffocating
Sleep still clouded his mind on that one misty morning. Much like every morning, his brothers and sisters made far too much noise. There were no raised voices to make it loud by any means, it was merely the fact that there were so many of them.
“Rickon, I’d like you to sup with me tonight. The three Mormont ladies will be joining us.”
That had woken him up easy enough. Rickon stared across the table at his oldest brother with his spoon of porridge still midair.
Robb gazed back at him blankly, all the rest of them quiet as they awaited a snarky retort. It never came, Rickon merely rolled his eyes and continued his breakfast.
“Bet you’ll like that,” Bran mumbled at his side.
Rickon glanced at his brother. He hadn’t seen Lyanna since his nameday feast and the kiss they had shared. He brought his fingers to the cut that healed steadily on his neck and anticipation began building.
“I think you should keep your mouth shut,” Rickon warned his older brother.
He was known to be impulsive– telling Bran every sordid detail about his life was one of those impulses he needed to work on controlling.
“Have you seen her since?”
Rickon eyed the rest of his siblings, noting that they were far too involved in their own conversations to care about what he and Bran were whispering about.
“I haven’t,” Rickon answered firmly.
“What will you do?”
Rickon glared at his brother. There was no forgetting how nosey Bran was. He was regardless, grateful to have someone to talk to.
He thought about his brother’s question. “Get drunk,” he said to Bran. “Her sisters will be there, I can’t quite grope her under the table.”
Bran let out a burst of laughter, causing a few stares. Rickon felt his anger start at his brother’s indiscretion.
#asks#faramir-stan#next chapter gets saucy!!#about my fics#update on my writing for anyone hoping for new chapters#i promise i’m working on all of them#i’m just working on sorting out some personal stuff first then i can dive back into my wips#an empire for two#throbb#lyckon#rickon stark#bran stark#robb stark

#And yeah I agree with Faramir but it's like the difference between someone who's saintly and someone who's noble
Yes. Faramir is saintly and Denethor is simply noble.
Finally! Someone who talks about the nuance of Denethor. He's not a mad stward. He is wise, but he's too proud and it ultimately leads to his fall and his despair. It's a tragedy. And it's a good tragedy, a well-written one that gives me the chills every time.
book!denethor and faramir are like
"i need you to make the hard decisions now that your brother is gone, because you are the one that will be my heir. i need you to weigh the good of many and the good of few. and i need you to do it independently for when i am gone as well."
and
"i refuse to be anything but gentle. i refuse to let the concept of a greater good justify cruelty. i love you. and im sorry to be a disappointment."

eowyn should have been a lesbian. Eowyn/faramir is like, fine, but it misses the point of eowyn for all baby dyke eowyn stans which is not that she longs for glory in battle and doesn't realize war is ugly and brutal, but that she's caught between two awful options and she doesn't want to be given one based on her gender. She's not in love with aragorn, she envies him because she finds the tasks he has in life more preferable and she hero worships him. Is this the point Tolkien was trying to make? Well, no,
#look it is LESS objectionable than other similar fantasy storylines because tolkien is making a point about the brutality of war#but i do think he correctly observes a particular impulse in some women without fully understanding the underlying tensions#he's like. for reasons unknown some women would prefer to face horrible dangerous circumstances than stay at home & tend the family castle#don't you see the castle is the important thing!#the castle is more important yes that's not the POINT#anyway. it will not be until many years later that some of those baby dykes will be able to articulate the vague feeling of betrayal#guy jobs are horrible and exploitative too on this we agree. but you see some of us will die if we have to figure out how to be nurturing

hanging on by a thread, so here’s some random headcanons
- i’m happy about éowyn and faramir, love them, but tbh i headcanon merry had the fattest mf crush on éowyn.
- frodo: pink floyd, sam: simon and garfunkle, pippin: the beatles, merry: david bowie. i don’t make the rules.
- legolas has a bag of holding for all of his hair and skin products (and tries to get aragorn and gimli in on it, randomly walking up to them and smearing the elven equivalent to moisturizer on their faces like ‘girl how you gonna show up to your own coronation lookin all crusty musty. lemme help you.’)
- pippin is so down for letting you put him in drag. he would love it.
- merry would be obsessed w legos
- everyone in the fellowship would absolutely flip out if you introduced them to chewing gum. hang on. lemme cook: frodo: peppermint, sam: pink lemonade, pippin: grape/watermelon, merry: bubble gum, legolas: sweet mint, aragorn: spearmint, gimli: the raspberry lime one, and gandalf: cinnamon. again, i do not make the rules.
- gandalf is the world’s biggest samfro stan (other than me)
- since beetlejuice can’t get sick bc he’s a demon, he will absolutely use the opportunity of lydia getting sick and having to stay home to just lay at the foot of her bed and rant to her about all his problems while they do nails together. if she’s faking sick it won’t be for long. he’s fun but she can only put up with it for about a day.
- logan howlett in another universe was undoubtedly a folk music singer.

I do have some sympathy for criticisms of how Éowyn's arc is resolved in LOTR (the book), even though I like Éowyn/Faramir a lot. I agree with some of those criticisms, even!
But I'm a Faramir stan first and foremost, and I am a bit puzzled at the idea that her arc is essentially sacrificed to prop up Faramir's. For me, it's Faramir's arc that is sacrificed to give Éowyn resolution.
For most of his on-page time, Faramir's characterization is deeply caught up with Boromir's and Denethor's and the dynamics between them (on an in-story and meta level). These and the high tragedy of his family are essential to the presentation of Faramir every single time he appears until the horror of Denethor's death.
And then it just ... vanishes. We don't know anything about what he feels about his family after Denethor's death. We don't know how he reacted to what Denethor tried to do. He never mentions or is shown thinking about it, or about Boromir (who he loved dearly but previously had complex feelings about), or what his family's place in the new Gondor should be. Did he find out he'd retain the Stewardship during the coronation? Was it already settled, with the later interchange with Aragorn a matter of ceremony? We don't know!
One of Faramir's greatest character moments is his speech about his love for Minas Tirith and hopes/fears for it in the future, but by the time Faramir meets Éowyn, he knows he'll have to leave Minas Tirith (his lifelong home) in the best possible scenario. Yet we know very little about what he feels about leaving Minas Tirith apart from what he can offer Éowyn in Ithilien.
It's not just that he's underwritten after Denethor dies, though. He's still quite lovingly written—as Éowyn's love interest. The narrative emphasizes Éowyn's development and healing during their romance and the resolution lies in Éowyn realizing her love for him and seeing a future other than war or what she went through in Rohan. Faramir becomes this kind of dreamboat love interest for Éowyn and is characterized almost entirely in service to resolving her arc.
And I do think it's beautifully written in ways that ... mostly have a lot of synergy with the overarching themes of the book etc etc, and we can fill in the missing spaces here, and so on. But it does seem to me that Faramir very abruptly goes from a character who independently exists in his own right, whom the narrative cares about in his own right, to a character who primarily exists to advance other characters (mainly Éowyn, a little bit Aragorn). He is much more a character in Éowyn's story than she is one in Faramir's.

You had me at Faramir's statue in the library.two of my favourite things to think about: Faramir and BOOKS.
Statues of Boromir in Minas Tirith
@scyllas-revenge I decided to move our discussion off that poor Pride and Prejudice post before we annoy the folks who just came to look at the pretty gifs and not listen to our unrelated and unhinged Boromir simping. XD
I LOVE YOUR HEADCANONS! Furiously taking notes to fuel the scene going on my head and preparing to shamelessly steal the vibes from the P&P movie scene.
Picturing all the Gondorian maidens gazing wistfully (and not too subtly) at those portraits and statues of the Captain of Gondor! As for the "lone" Faramir statue--joke's on Dad. It was placed exactly where a good portion of his fanbase probably resides, and I'm sure it gets a lot of dreamy-eyed visitors as well.
We're plotting and I love it. I hope whoever reads this post lets it inspire their Boromir (or Faramir!) imaginings too, if they wish.

what the fablehaven crew is wearing for halloween :
kendra and warren are doing a matching costume : they’re going as barbie and ken, warren is really invested and he keeps saying every lines ken said in the movie, kendra is laughing the whole night and she’s of course slaying the pink
seth convinced bracken to do a matching costume with him, bracken still doesn’t really understand halloween so he accepted : they’re going as lord of the rings characters and seth is very much hyped. seth will be pippin the hobbit and bracken will go as faramir, he actually watched lord of the rings and loved faramir so he’s very much happy with that costume
vanessa is wearing a bella swann costume because her and kendra recently watched the twilight movies and warren tought it was the funniest costume she could wear, she didn’t haven anything else planned so she went with it
stan and ruth are also wearing a matching costume of dumbledore and professor mcgonagall, they’re very proud of their costumes because they actually made everything themselves this year (it looks very cool)
tanu is going as doctor strange since he’s his favorite avenger and he went all in, he has the cape and everything
mara and trask didn’t really want to dress up so they decided to match together, they’re going as lara croft and indiana jones, so they’re literally wearing clothes they would wear on a mission, but turns out their costumes are amazing regardless
dale is literally just going as stan and everyone couldn’t stop laughing when they figured out his costume

Reblogging to put some respect on Beregond’s name
Talking about my beloved Háma earlier this week got me thinking again about how Beregond is the Háma of Gondor. One of the ways Tolkien showed us how bound together Gondor and Rohan were as countries was by drawing explicit parallels between individual Gondorians and Rohirrim (like Boromir and Théodred), and it happens for everyone's favorite guards, too. They have some differences (I mean, Háma dies 😭), but they’re much more alike than not.
Most importantly, they’re both soldiers—part of a very hierarchical, duty-bound structure—who nonetheless decide in key moments to disregard orders and follow their own judgment and good sense instead. Háma will let Gandalf violate the ban on weapons in Meduseld and Beregond will leave his post and literally slay anyone facilitating the burning of Faramir because their hearts and minds tell them that sometimes laws must be broken in service of a larger morality. That takes courage, independence of thought, and a strong sense of self. By disobeying, they both knowingly risk punishment—and, indeed, both are punished—but they do it anyway because they know it’s right. And ultimately, both are forgiven and honored because everyone can see they made correct, if unlawful, decisions. (This parallel is also replicated a little further up the respective hierarchies because Éomer and Faramir are also both noted mavericks who choose at pivotal moments to aid members of the Fellowship even though, by law, those outsiders should be arrested or killed. So, again, parallels between pairs of Gondorians and Rohirrim abound!)
I like that Tolkien takes care to show that it’s not just the folks at the very top of communities of Men that can have and display these really admirable and noble traits. It’s important for there to be a Háma and a Beregond so that we know these lands of Men are worth protecting—there is goodness there! And of course it fits very neatly with the “small hands do great deeds” theme of LOTR overall. Háma and Beregond each change the course of history when they trust to their own worth and hold to their own values, no matter the circumstances or consequences.
So that’s the biggest/weightiest parallel for Háma and Beregond, but it’s certainly not the only one. They both work for prestigious military units in the capital city of their countries. They both play formal roles in granting our major characters access to those cities. They’re both firsthand witnesses to the mental manipulation and torment of their leaders (Théoden and Denethor) by an enemy. They both get joyful moments witnessing the healing of a beloved lord. They’re both Gandalf enthusiasts in places where not everyone respects or welcomes Gandalf’s presence. They both demonstrate a willingness to draw swords on anyone they perceive as threatening their lords. They’re both pretty adept at rolling with it when things take a really weird turn (I mean, really, the legendary lost heir of Elendil shows up on Háma’s doorstep claiming to be friends with a mythical elf-sorceress, and he just goes with it. And Beregond has never seen a hobbit before and maybe isn’t even sure they’re real when one is thrust on him, and he immediately makes Pip his buddy!).
Those are the canon parallels, but I would be remiss if I didn’t finish by specifying that @brigwife and I agree it is rock solid head canon that Háma and Beregond met somehow and became actual long distance best friends. It’s only natural that they’d get along given how much they have in common—just two absolute gems of the race of Men who would totally love and appreciate one another. And I’d like to think that even as Háma’s legacy is commemorated at his resting place in Rohan, there’s also a little memorial for him in Gondor built by Beregond in a beautiful, peaceful part of Ithilien. During Beregond’s lifetime it stands as a tribute to his enduring friendship with Háma, and in later days, when anyone who knew them is gone, it stands instead as a tribute to the enduring friendship of Gondor and Rohan.

Really tired of people calling FG by the one name that makes zero sense in context, is alienating to a lot of people, and is actually the single figure Mojito has confirmed he's not. Are people just unaware of one of the more popular hairstyles/looks for guys with long(ish) brown(ish) hair and beards/beard stubble in (and out of) media?
People/characters listed left to right, starting with the top:
Row 1: Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes in Captain America: The Winter Soldier; François Arnaud as Cesare Borgia in The Borgias; David Wenham as Faramir in The Lord of the Rings; Oded Fehr as Ardeth Bay in The Mummy Returns; Jason Carter as Marcus Cole in Babylon 5
Row 2: Kevin Sorbo as Hercules in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys; Liam Neeson as Qui-Gon Jinn in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace; "Foreign God" in ENNEAD Season 1, Episde 65; "Foreign God" in ENNEAD Season 2, Episode 10; Robin Atkin Downes; Hugh Jackman as Van Helsing in Van Helsing
Row 3: Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars; Hades in Blood of Zeus, James Watson as Duncan Idaho in Dune (2000); Gale in Baldur's Gate 3; Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings
Row 4: Mark Ryder as Cesare Borgia in Borgia; Jason Momoa; Nigel Terry as King Arthur in Excalibur; Christian Kane as Eliot Spencer in Leverage; Jared Padalecki
Like I could keep adding people and characters to this because this style is so damn common (I was honestly tempted to make a second collage, bare minimum). But I'd be here forever. There are a number of other fan names for the unnamed foreign god, including Foreign God, FG, Beard, Mustache, or you could go with what Seth calls him, "Furball".
#ennead#foreign god ennead#fg ennead#there are so many guys who have this style#trying to remember them all is impossible#a lot more with blonde and red hair as well#like if you watch movies or shows set in ancient Greece or Rome in particular#and shows set in Europe and the US in the 1700s-1800s#you see this everywhere#and it's popular for singers too#apologies for people confused about this showing up in their tags#like I don't get why it's meant to be funny as a joke name#is the joke “lol I don't know what men look like”?#why do people have to involve xtianity even in places where it's not involved#it's worse when people actually think it's a potential identity for FG#when no that makes zero sense for FG as a character and the person people think he is#or the story on the whole#and again Mojito confirmed he's not Jesus#like obviously people can do whatever they want#I just find this whole phenomenon really annoying#I remember when bg3 came out and people were spamming the tags with Gale saying he looked like FG#it's not a rare look#yes I am aware people have gotten McGregor's Obi-Wan confused with Jesus before#and yes I am aware that Cesare is at least theorized to be an inspiration for modern white Jesus looks#doesn't change the fact the look is common#mostly it just means people keep doing this and it's always been dumb#fallfthoughts#maybe stop perpetuating xtian supremacy so casually#also if you literally wander around multiple countries around the Mediterranean many men look like this#years ago I was in one city off the coast and literally every direction I looked was at least 1-3 men who looked like this
