i miss the fanwalker era of the mtg tumblr experience
I should pay them more attention, I fell off the wagon for real. I'm always open to and enjoy answering questions about them, it's how I usually get info about them out there, since I can never find the right time to info dump about them very much.

Tell me about your mtg characters!
Let’s reverse the usual, either reblog this post with basic information about your own Magic: the Gathering characters, or send me an ask with it. One at a time, and give me that information even if I already know them, others might not. I’ll ask around questions about them that pop into my head.
#mtg#fanwalkers#but also planebound#other people's characters#might take me a bit when I'm busy or asleep#but I'll try to get to everything

So before Bloomburrow comes out I at least one to get out one MH 3 ask, so could you tell me about your walkers Origin card?
For Halona, I really like the explore sub-theme I gave her when I did the Chandra M19 inspired set since it represented her origin story of sailing and exploring. I think for her creature side, it'd keep track of every land she explores to a max of 3, probably using the noting system like Long List of the Ents. I'm not sure what would trigger the flip, probably when she sees a land on exploring, but after she flips she gains more loyalty for each land she explored and maybe draws for each +1/+1 counter (or tutors for an aura based on the number of counters) she had when she flips.
For Nireta, I made most of one, but I'm not sure I ever posted it. She'd be a 1/2 for UB flier with "Tap: Put a scavenge counter on her and draw a card." and "An opponent could put two counters on her and have a creature they control fight her. Only opponents may activate this ability, and only as a sorcery." If she would die with any scavenge counters on her, she'd flip and come in with that many loyalty. I like how it worked in her plundering and eventual near-death igniting. I didn't have any real notes for her back half though.
I only have the barebones of a Catrina origin card that I started working on once. The only thing I really have is that she'd have been White-Black with a Green tap ability. I think she'd have a fight ability with a noting mechanic to keep track of the highest CMC or Power/Toughness and she'd flip after killing a certain total amount. The planeswalker custom card I printed back in... 2022??? (God why I am so bad at being an artist online?) I was already struggling to come up with a representative version of her back then. She'd still probably have another destroy effect and probably another boardwipe-adjacent ability, but it's hard to come up with something that fits and isn't super broken.
#halona#nireta#catrina#fanwalker#fanwalkers#I feel like a broken record saying how much I want to do art and make more stuff of my walkers#but then I'm also finding it hard to make the time to keep up online here

Speaking of your planeswalkers, how did you design them and theme them around their colors? If you haven't answered this before. I love the theory behind the colors and how planeswalkers are represented.
Ah; the colour connections my fanwalkers had are a bit looser than how the colour pie works, hahaha.
For Kanerva, my first planeswalker; he's simply based on my W/B enchantments EDH deck, led by Daxos, the Returned. It's also an allusion to his fur colours (since he's a panda).
For Tormund, he was designed for an idea I had for a piece I did for my Ko-Fi. I wanted to create a Kaldheim-based character and designed Tormund's outfit based on the Kannah, since I envisioned his magic being based on growing stronger the more he puts himself into danger (also the reason why he doesn't wear any topwear).
This piece was to highlight Tormund's character, showing Tormund wanting to flex his abilities and planeswalking to Amonkhet to complete the Trial of Strength.

So fanwalker creators of Tumblr... anyone actually going to engage with the whole "lots of planeswalkers have lost their sparks" plot point for your fanwalkers, or are you gonna just ignore it?

The Phyrexian Arc where my ocs are concerned:
-Traenor went on a revenge quest for the friend he thought he lost to Jin-Gitaxias, Endry.
-He enlists Klaus and Andra to help him out.
-Traenor and Klaus went to New Phyrexia and helped the resistance for a bit.
-They investigated Kaldheim, then Kamigawa, where they met Avon, who was investigating consortium leads that led her to Tezzeret's trail.
-They try to follow up on leads that bring them to Elspeth's homeplane, New Capenna. They meet walkers from the Order of Heliud , Lys Ora, Vanya, and Constance. Lys Ora blames Andra for initiating their homeplane's eventual destruction (andra is unaware) and she chases Andra off. Vanya joins the gang.
-They go to Dominaria, after reports of Phyrexians invading. Vanya takes them to the Serran Order of Grace, her order which had been infiltrated by Sleepers. Avon helps root them out, until she accidentally mind melds with a sleeper, and turns against them, nearly destroying them all. Avon is captured and left to recover, though they do manage to save the Order.
Around here, Ellidus is captured and compleated, and the Order's listening post on New Phyrexia now monitors planeswalker travel for New Phyrexia.
-In BRO they meet with the Gatewatch formally. They prepare their homeplanes for invasion. Traenor finally gets his second knighthood.
Around here, after months of the Listening Post being used to stop planeswalkers from messing with Phyrexia, the Order hires a certain Metathran to take it down. Ellidus is punished for losing it, and to try and make up for it, they help augment the Phyrexians' new anti-planeswalker field, with their body as a component.
Also Ora discovers Andra never intended to kick off the growing of Axin's aetherstorm, and would have stopped it if she could. They return to the gang.
-In ONE, the gang go to New Phyrexia to try and run interference for the Planeswalker Strike Team, and achieve a secondary goal, which is to try and find how the Phyrexians are compleating planeswalkers.
But Klaus is separated on arrival and captured. His immunity from Melira is bolstered by some Halo he takes, so he isn't compleated at first. However they do put him into a pod to access his memories and magic. While he's under, he dreams a journey through the layers of Phyrexia, where he sees people he knows being either captured or compleated. He's rescued just before he dies or gets compleated.
Ellidus is probably separated from Realmbreaker, left helpless.

Think with all the invasion stuff you’ll compleat any of your characters? (I think I’m too attached/chicken to xD)
I'm kind of in the same boat as you @thetabbybadger I'm far to attached to my walker to complete any of them. Though I had considered have Niphorbis becoming complete do to his connection to nyx and have him pass away when the Phyrexians become inert.
But just because I have no plans to complete any of my oc dose not mean I have not put a lot of thought into what they would be like completed.
Marcel, Tender to Perfection
“I have surrendered the fleeting warming of flesh for the cold embrace of perfection.”
Not to long ago I sent you as message describing a completed Marcel well I have an update to that.
Marcel hair has become one sheet of flesh like silver fused to his lower back and around his ribs, it cloaks his upper body like a funeral lily. His upper body is now segments of perfectly smooth porcelain, jointed together like a great doll. As he moves you can see in the gaps of the joints brambles of copper, wound together in a mockery of muscle and sinew. His lower body though is now quadrupedal, green copper artistically sculpted into a mockery of a unicorn. An affront to everything Marcel ever believed in and the blessed of his home plane.
Marcel had become Elesh Norn's greatest weapon against the remains of the Mirrodin resistance, for against the cold artificialness of New Phyrexia their life force burns like a flare in the night.
When the invasion happened Marcel was tasked with brining perfection to his own home plane. Here he further proved his worth to the great work as he ability to manipulate life energies assisted in allowing the Phyrexian to overcome the Floramorians natural resistance to completion.
He would ultimately be put down by Duke Lyle, who in a brutal dragged out battle was finally able to avenge both his sons from what had happened to them. But this was not the end of Marcel's story for as he laid dying on warm stone of the castle he grew up in, the soul of Floramore heard the anguish of the soul trapped with in metal cage. She welcomed her lost child back into the embrace of the good earth, and somewhere far in the Fair Wilds a young dryad with silver hair would one day be born with a spark already ignited.
Segara, Avatar of Assimilation
"Here my journey has come to an end, I have found my place within the great work."
The breathtaking albino peacock feather of Segara's mighty wings have fused together into great sheets of chrome, tipped with the eyes of gitaxias. His head is now a chrome bird skull with interlocking metal spines flowing down from it to his chest. His body is now completely smooth chrome, with the symbol of Phyrexia carved into his chest. Behind him rages a living storm of black oil vapers, the Avatar of Assimilation. Born from Segara adsorbing the magic of glistening oil into his body and with the magic of his former goddess manifesting the very avatar of Phyrexia's will.
Molycap, Mycosynth Mutation
*horrifical oily gurgles*
Molycap has fused with mycosyth to become a horrific blighted mound of death and decay. A living rot farm of fused funguses and the undead from which Phyrexian saprolings burst from that quickly skitter into the dark of the undercity to spread more of the glistening oil into Ravnica water ways.
Serrabeth, Blazing Raider
"Come now child, no more tears, sometimes you got to know when to join the winning side."
Out of all my walker Serrabeth might have joined Urabrask willingly, trading in her aging body for one of immoral iron. Most of Serrabeth body is little more then an skeletal framework with a skull and crossbones making up her chest. The rest of her is the flames of Urabrask furnace given life, oh also her left arm is now a cannon because fuck ya.
Dillan, Yawgmoth's Dream
"Soon the nightmare of flesh will come to an end and all will share the dream of Phyrexia."
Dillan lower body if formed out of porcelain plates and has become more of a bipedal satyr then the sheep centaur he used to be. A sheet of white oil stained wool rapped around his waist like a child's security blanket. His chest is made entirely out of silver as he has been fused to mother moon. Who now oily sands now flow from the gap in his chest, spreading the dream of completion.
Nivel, Phyrexia's Harmony
"Soon we shall all sing in one voice"
Nivel has been fused with a number of other Phyrexias from all of the factions, their bodies forming a sort of twisted exoskeleton around is. They are his choirs and he is their conductor. Together they sing the hymn of the Phyrexia using Nivel animation magic to bring completion even to unliving stone.
Angelique, Angel of Elesh Norn
"In the light of the five suns I have foreseen Phyrexia's victory across countless worlds."
Angelique would be twisted into a mockery of an Elspeth, her body now little more then a set of living procaine pates interlocked into a set of armor. Behind her head is a halo shaped in of the New Phyreia's symbol. From her shoulders extend two great vents from which gouts of great flames burst forth giving the illusion of wings.
Valentino, Unseen Agent
"Promises where made to me that my love would be returned to me in perfection."
No one knows what Valentino's completed form looks like and that is the point. His mastery of illusion magic has made him invaluable in infiltration pockets of resistance and destroying them from within.
Ozmander, Porcelain Patriarch
"I have served many who only keep a veneer of faith, I find no such weakness here."
The left half of Ozmander body is formed from the white of the orthodoxies porcelain, the right the black iron of the steel thanes. He is draped his the robes of a holy man tattered and dripping with black oil, his sword having been fused with his right hand where it spins in it's socket.
Anise, Phyrexias Scripter
"The story has been written, the ending planed long in advance, all will be one."
Anise body now had the skeletal build of black iron, wing of folded porcelain plates and a cap of chrome covering her eyes. She now write in glistening oil a single word on everything she sees "Completion".

Since you mentioned it (last week but procrastination), I am curious about what happened to your fanwalkers in the past couple years of events eventing, but to narrow it down a bit more, let's start with the family of Wren, Kuro and Megumi!
Ah, yes, of course, everyone's favorite little family! It's so difficult to juggle my fanwalker canon, since a lot of plot stuff happens like ten+ years in the future, so every time a major canon event takes place I have to male sweeping addendums to their lore.
For the uninitiated: Wren is a vampire from Innistrad who made a name for herself on Kylem in Valor's Reach. She doesn't have any standout qualities that aren't just "vampire traits, but juiced up", but she is especially charismatic and uses that to her advantage. In order to feed, without stooping to murder, Wren hosts orgies with her army of devoted fans, and drinks only small portions of participant's blood. Wten is genderfluid.
Kuro is a soratami necromancer from Kamigawa who met Wren shortly after the events of WAR, and the two of them immediately became entangled in a whirlwind romance. Kuro raises the dead by way of touching corpses, so she can actually use her necromancy unintentionally if she isn't careful. When she raises the dead, she is treated to the memories of their death, and sometimes even other details.
Megumi is their daughter, a soratami dhampir who winds up getting into trouble of her own much later down the line.
By the time the Phyrexian invasion was taking place, Megumi was an infant, which forced Wren and Kuro to remain on Kylem instead of going to the aid of their friends.
Kuro attempted to make use of Phyrexian corpses at her disposal, but getting treated to the memories of what they experienced during compleation made utilizing them impossible. Trying even once exposed her to the Phyrexian brainwashing that it nearly consumed her.
Due to "I already planned out their story way ahead of canon, so they have to keep their sparks" reasons, neither of them were victims to the Great Pruning, but they became automatic go-tos when it came to working with multiplanar travelers when the Omenpaths started opening up.

Tell you about my mtg oc?
Well I would love to hear what you think of my main boy, Marcel Delaswan!
Marcel was born on the plane of Floramore in a quite little village. His father spent his time chasing a Chevalier dream, leaving his son to be raised almost exclusively by his mother. It was not always easy Marcel’s mother worked hard as the local washer woman, and was often ill of health. This left Marcel a great deal of time to himself as a child which he spent playing in the flowering meadows, making friends with the local fairies.
It would be this same fairies who would come to his aid when his mother fell deathly ill one day. They lead Marcel into the nearby enchanted wood where they thought him all about the healing properties of the magical flora. Only when he finally left the forest arms full of herbs and flowers it make his mother better, two years had past.
With nowhere to go Marcel spent some time living in the enchanted forest a casualty leaving to trade healing herbs for food, clothing and other necessities. His time in the forest changing him, his straw blond hair becoming a shimmering platinum, flecks of sliver formed in his eyes, as his skin became as smooth and white as porcelain. Had he stayed in the forest he might have become a full fae, but fate had other plans.
For one day a Duke came to the village chasing rumors of a fae with healing abilities, only to find a lost forest child instead. But the noble was desperate and took the child in hopes that the fae had thought him something his healers did not know. Arriving at the Duke’s castle Marcel learned that his wife had passed in childbirth and now his infant son was deathly sick with a fever. The same fever that had taken his mother from him.
Having healed his child Marcel became a ward and second son to the duke. He was given the best education a noble could provide, greatly extending his understanding of the healing and magical arts. Leading to Marcel becoming the personal physician to the man who was like the father he never had.
So when the duke was attacked by some beast while on a hunt, an attack that left him cursed and slowly losing his humanity. Marcel pushed himself to his braking point and found he could do nothing to help his liege.
It an act of desperation Marcel sought out darker magics for aid, seeking counsel from one of the most powerful witches on Floramore. The old crone gave Marcel a ritual that would help his lord.
With no other options Marcel preformed this ritual, never fully understanding that he was riding his liege of his affliction by moving it down his bloodline.
Not until he found his lords son over the body of his governess, throat ripped out and blood dripping from his mouth.
Marcel dose not recall much of what happened next. He recalls stumbling back, his hand brushing something. He recalls the boy lunging at him, then a bright light and he was the starring up at the stained glass visage of a winged woman. A bloody sword in his hand.
It was here on Innistrad Marcel learned just what it was that had attacked his liege, some fowl thing called a vampire that had found its way to his home plane.
Marcel now travels the multiverse learning everything he can about Vampires. So that one day he might create a cure and make some amends for the wrong he has done.
Alright, a lot to unpack here, but let's start simple: Vampires in magic are incredibly diverse depending on the plane. Is Marcel focused on any particular kind or trying to synthesize whatever they have in common that might be applicable?

"As a tree broke through the realms, so too did a girl's heart."
Out of all the images to do after not having the time and/or energy to do art for so long, this was a nice one to do.
I didn't talk with @moisellethefae about Moiselle's curse that kept her from planeswalking when I started this (and I still haven't ¯\_(ツ)_/¯), but once I got the idea I had to put it down. I've had a couple ideas of proxy/alt card art that I've been wanting to do, but it's taking me forever to pen the ideas (and also decide which are for what).
#fanwalkers#halona#moiselle#I've had an idea for a Secret Rendezvous I've been brewing for a while now and I just got to get off my butt and draw it

So before magic drops March of the Machine, and potently ruins the multiverse, I would like to know what your ocs are up to!
Most of my OCs are entirely unaware of the plot and in for a very rude awakening. The only ones acutely aware of the growing threat are Karesh, Xiltas, and Malain.
Karesh continues to find himself aware of and involved in unavoidable conflicts, and while he is not a particularly noble or heroic individual, the Phyrexians are not a threat he can ignore. However they have provided him an opportunity he has been looking for for a long time, an opening to escape his contract with Maharabh.
Xiltas, on the contrary, is looking forward to the near future. He's been wanting to dissect and study Phyrexians for a long time, and now he's being provided with a way to do that.
Malain (who can see the future) knows shits about to go down and wants none of it and has disappeared until this is all over.

So I saw a post about this concept and thought it would make for a interesting ask. Magical damage, like a necromancers fingers slowly turning black and losing sensation or a wizard with lighting bolt scares across their arms. What dose it look like when your oc's push their magic beyond what their bodies can handle?
Overcasting is a fun concept for me. I usually think of it in the terms of how much bang can the caster get for their buck if they pour too much or more than they really have into a spell. Though the side effects are neat to look at, but it does depend on whether or not they have a magic that can be overcast.
Ceral: The elemental magics that he wields; fire, ice and lightning, are all basic examples of overcastable. When this happens, it's less an issue for his actual body and more for the environment around him. A glass can only hold so much before it overflows and, as such, each of Ceral's elements will flow out as well. They tend to flow out of his eyes and hands which are focal points for his magic. Laan: Overcasting his geomancy, as his ability to grow in size has measured limits, is akin to overstraining the body during a workout. If he tries to move too much earth, it will result in pulled muscles, strained joints and potential dislocations. Except: Their shapeshifting doesn't have limits that can be considered overcasting. Y'lona: Her Heal/Harm curses are in a way always overcasted, as each is the consequence of the other. If she heals passed her limits, the feedback is that an equal amount of harm will be done, and vis versa. She is very aware that if she does too much of one, she needs to be ready to direct an equal amount of the other. Saving the lives of 4 people means inflicting 4 fatal injuries worth of suffering to potentially 1 person that can't take it. Zoya: Her magic is "Make things hard to break." Outside of applying the spell too much and getting general mana fatigue, there's not a downside for Zoya. Atlan: While being a martial artist, using his magic too much will result in minor burns turning into major burns along the limbs. The burns will start at the toes and fingers and slowly climb to the knees and elbows, with the potential to go higher up the limbs. Sturn: The necromanic nature of Sturn's magic has little effect on him, as he is undead already. What using too much will do instead is burn out any glamours he has, stripping back his appearance to his proper undead form as a lich. The more tired and out of magic Sturn is, the harder the facade is to maintain. Samuel: If he pushes passed his limits, any control he's exerting over any spirits will break. Luckily, for Samuel at least, he can overcome this limit by simply eating any spirits he looses control of. Kitai: As Kitai puts out more magic than she should, she goes through stages of output. At first, it looks like she's simply making her glass wings larger, but its actually the glass spreading apart as she loses control. Later the glass will be too spread for her to maintain flight, followed by the glass over taking Kitai's back and shoulders before movement becomes incredibly hindered. This effect also spreads to any other glass constructs that she is in contact with. Aseri: Overcasting for Aseri is mostly seen as trying to have more summons active than she can control. Once there are more than can be controlled the ink will revolt in a way. Her tattoos will squirm on her skin and the summons will sweat black ink before slowly melting. Cas: Being very aware of how little magic he has, Cas does not often go over his ability. Due to the low levels he's naturally at, Cas's overload looks more like someone casting a larger spell. His limited fire and reinforcement magics will burst in larger fashions when ending, but ultimately thats all.

Summary:
As worries of Phyrexian incursions on various planes grows, two planeswalkers, Clelia and Ariael, volunteer to go to Dominaria to look for evidence of the Phyrexians being on the plane. Doing so changes the course of their lives forever as they both do whatever it takes to make it back to each other and those they love.
Chapter Summary:
A reunion but it is anything but cathartic.
Preview Below the Cut:
“I don’t think it’s enough,” Clelia admitted as she looked at the preparations to the fortress they had managed to do for the past few days marked on a map that Aki had drawn.
With Clelia on the fortress’s parapet was Nissa, Chandra, Elspeth, and Slenna looking equally, if not more worried. The others were still continuing their preparations but it all seemed insignificant when laid out on paper against what they would face.
“It never is enough but we will make do,” Elspeth said, looking older than her years.
Beside her, Nissa was looking equally grim as she clung to her staff hard enough to turn her knuckles white.
“I haven’t been able to contact Dominaria’s world soul. I can keep trying but without their aid, it will limit what I will be able to do.”
“I’ll buy you time if I have to, Nissa. They’re not immune to fire and I’m eager for payback,” Chandra said, leaning against the table.
“I have a few surprises for them too. Between all of us, we should be able to keep them on their toes for a bit,” Slenna said without her usual bravado as she walked around the map.
“Something’s out on the horizon,” Elspeth said, pulling their attention away from the map to where there were dark figures hovering over the fields in the distance.
“Let’s take a look,” Slenna said, reaching into her bag and pulling out a spyglass. She hummed as she made some adjustments to bring what she was looking at into focus. “There are some Phyrexian aven coming towards us- wait one of them is like the angels in the stained glass windows- no.”
Slenna dropped the spyglass which grew to its regular size as it rolled across the table.
Despite knowing what she would see, Clelia grabbed the spyglass first and looked out at the figures hovering in flight on the horizon.
Among the Phyrexian aven was Clelia, remade into a Phyrexian vision of the Dominarian angels. Clelia heard her heartbeat in her ears as she passed the spyglass to Elspeth.
