i miss the fanwalker era of the mtg tumblr experience
I should pay them more attention, I fell off the wagon for real. I'm always open to and enjoy answering questions about them, it's how I usually get info about them out there, since I can never find the right time to info dump about them very much.

Speaking of your planeswalkers, how did you design them and theme them around their colors? If you haven't answered this before. I love the theory behind the colors and how planeswalkers are represented.
Ah; the colour connections my fanwalkers had are a bit looser than how the colour pie works, hahaha.

For Kanerva, my first planeswalker; he's simply based on my W/B enchantments EDH deck, led by Daxos, the Returned. It's also an allusion to his fur colours (since he's a panda).
For Tormund, he was designed for an idea I had for a piece I did for my Ko-Fi. I wanted to create a Kaldheim-based character and designed Tormund's outfit based on the Kannah, since I envisioned his magic being based on growing stronger the more he puts himself into danger (also the reason why he doesn't wear any topwear).

This piece was to highlight Tormund's character, showing Tormund wanting to flex his abilities and planeswalking to Amonkhet to complete the Trial of Strength.

So I saw a post about this concept and thought it would make for a interesting ask. Magical damage, like a necromancers fingers slowly turning black and losing sensation or a wizard with lighting bolt scares across their arms. What dose it look like when your oc's push their magic beyond what their bodies can handle?
Overcasting is a fun concept for me. I usually think of it in the terms of how much bang can the caster get for their buck if they pour too much or more than they really have into a spell. Though the side effects are neat to look at, but it does depend on whether or not they have a magic that can be overcast.
Ceral: The elemental magics that he wields; fire, ice and lightning, are all basic examples of overcastable. When this happens, it's less an issue for his actual body and more for the environment around him. A glass can only hold so much before it overflows and, as such, each of Ceral's elements will flow out as well. They tend to flow out of his eyes and hands which are focal points for his magic. Laan: Overcasting his geomancy, as his ability to grow in size has measured limits, is akin to overstraining the body during a workout. If he tries to move too much earth, it will result in pulled muscles, strained joints and potential dislocations. Except: Their shapeshifting doesn't have limits that can be considered overcasting. Y'lona: Her Heal/Harm curses are in a way always overcasted, as each is the consequence of the other. If she heals passed her limits, the feedback is that an equal amount of harm will be done, and vis versa. She is very aware that if she does too much of one, she needs to be ready to direct an equal amount of the other. Saving the lives of 4 people means inflicting 4 fatal injuries worth of suffering to potentially 1 person that can't take it. Zoya: Her magic is "Make things hard to break." Outside of applying the spell too much and getting general mana fatigue, there's not a downside for Zoya. Atlan: While being a martial artist, using his magic too much will result in minor burns turning into major burns along the limbs. The burns will start at the toes and fingers and slowly climb to the knees and elbows, with the potential to go higher up the limbs. Sturn: The necromanic nature of Sturn's magic has little effect on him, as he is undead already. What using too much will do instead is burn out any glamours he has, stripping back his appearance to his proper undead form as a lich. The more tired and out of magic Sturn is, the harder the facade is to maintain. Samuel: If he pushes passed his limits, any control he's exerting over any spirits will break. Luckily, for Samuel at least, he can overcome this limit by simply eating any spirits he looses control of. Kitai: As Kitai puts out more magic than she should, she goes through stages of output. At first, it looks like she's simply making her glass wings larger, but its actually the glass spreading apart as she loses control. Later the glass will be too spread for her to maintain flight, followed by the glass over taking Kitai's back and shoulders before movement becomes incredibly hindered. This effect also spreads to any other glass constructs that she is in contact with. Aseri: Overcasting for Aseri is mostly seen as trying to have more summons active than she can control. Once there are more than can be controlled the ink will revolt in a way. Her tattoos will squirm on her skin and the summons will sweat black ink before slowly melting. Cas: Being very aware of how little magic he has, Cas does not often go over his ability. Due to the low levels he's naturally at, Cas's overload looks more like someone casting a larger spell. His limited fire and reinforcement magics will burst in larger fashions when ending, but ultimately thats all.

Updated this for 2024 info about them and including various art commissioned for the characters over the years for the main roster. Sorry for the long post, but putting this up here again as a result.
Niuttuc’s Fanwalker List
Art and short bios and description of my fanwalkers, since it was a little weird to refer to an ask every time. Occasionally updated (last update: November 2024.) Since my roster has expanded significantly since this post was first made, I’ll only put my “core” characters into a first “short” list, and the rest below the cut. Note that I do still occasionally develop and do appreciate questions beyond the core characters, I just decided to separate things for ease of read.
Feel free to inquire if you’re curious about any of them or any specific bit of the text here! There is much, much more than the little written here about each of them. Though do provide enough context for me to understand what you’re asking about.
None of the art featured here was made by me, though it was all commissioned from various artists. I’ll tag them when I know their current tumblr whereabouts, though many have moved on from it over the years, or changed their handles enough times I don’t know them anymore.
1) Anedia Kosel (UB)
She/her, Human, overt (former?) dimir reporter and covert (former?) dimir agent. Sleep mage. From Ravnica. After a successful column writing about other worlds and planeswalkers, and a failed attempt at a paper she ran herself, now has moved to Thunder Junction to try again, and trade interplanar information with interested parties.
2) Ivegard ( R )

She/Her, Flamekin empath from Lorwyn. She travels mostly for traveling’s sake, but takes on courier work across planes to find new places to go and meet new people. Omenpaths have brought both more competition and more parties interested in her services.
3) Nyrhen (G)
(Nyrhen doesn’t deserve art, plus he’d be annoying if not murderous to anyone he would deem representing him in less than perfect fashion)
He/Him, Elf from Lorwyn. Potential/true self magic. Seeks people who know who they are. Current home set up in the Wilds of Eldraine, but he doesn’t spend too much time there. He’s a terrible person who occasionally does good things for bad or weird reasons, but most often an unpredictable danger for others.
4) Vaalin (WUR)

(art by @reubenyeoart )
He/him, half-merfolk half-human, Tolarian scholar from Dominaria. Magic allowing manipulation of the perception of time, and for him to slip between moments. Generally a pacifist, he’s still not alright with the little fighting he found himself forced into during the recent phyrexian invasion, even though he mostly stuck to handling logistics for the new coalition.
5) Dancing-Hands (WU)
He/Him, Kitsune with origami-based animating magic and innate short range telekinesis on non-living objects. From Kamigawa. Former follower of an Ojutai dragon. Currently mostly based on Amonkhet in a relationship with a pair of Khenra twins, he’s also been exploring working with a branch of the Order of Heliud.
6) Dolores (BR)
(She has some gifted arts, but nothing “official” yet. Though that might change sooner than later)
She/Her, demon with pain-based magic. Resides and works on New Capenna as torturer, mainly for the Maestros. From the fan-plane of Ferely. She was born an Azra and ascended to demonhood in a process she doesn’t fully understand. Recently has been seen on Thunder Junction and a few other planes seeking some specific people for unknown reasons.
7) Arnoss (RGW)
He/Him, Ghavalek (Gharial-based person) with enhanced strength and protection based on others’ need for his help. From the fan-plane of Ocaelum. Fully amphibious. He’s recently spent more time on his home plane and was adopted into his culture’s wide pantheon, the Spirit Kindred. He’s big, over 3m (10′) tall at time of writing, but the gentlest of giant with most people, despite or maybe because of his appearance. Before his return home, he’s worked as a bodyguard to help people and his own purse before.
8) Lhur (B)
(No art for Lhur yet. Maybe someday!)
He/Him, Giant from Fiora. His magic is rooted in manifesting what people want or desire. Led a revolt against his own father’s rule of a small kingdom far away from Paliano. After his victory, he ruled for a few years and established a better system for his country and his people. And recently lost the first election with that new system.
9) Farell Bassola (U)
(No art for Farell yet, unless there is. It’s hard to tell with shapeshifters. Which would make a depiction pretty pointless.)
Most often uses He/They. Shapeshifting duelist from Fiora, copying their opponents’ appearance and skills. Doesn’t try nor like actually trying to impersonate others. Inspired by a character from tragedy, Farell has suffered his share of cruel twists of fate and impossible love.
10) Arega (GU)
(art by @poisonhemlocke)
They/Them, Lorwyn Changeling modified with old Simic biomancy. They’re now encased in a hybrid body designed for the Guardian project, and slowly adapt to conditions they face. On the run from the actual Simic guild, though the Guild is not as interested in chasing Arega as they think.
11) Zarunpel (G(BW))
(No official art for Zarunpel yet, but she might be next on the list)
She/Her, Human Knight of Garenbrig, from Eldraine. Rapunzel-inspired, she has long, heavy and indestructible hair she uses as both weapon and protection. She’s stronger than she looks and has access to some protection magic. She doesn’t like the story a fae has tried to force her into since the day of her birth, and tries to be very different than what her looks of a dainty princess would have others expect. Also her shadow either is or contains a magical giant panther of Urborg she uses as a mount, bonded to her by the Soul of Windgrace after a service rendered.
12) Sezashi (UG)

(art by @reubenyeoart )
He/Him, Orochi from Kamigawa. His kami-granted magic allows him to manipulate life and objects by doubling or halving them or some of their characteristics. Trying to figure out what kind of world Kamigawa might one day become from the Merge and help steer it towards the better outcomes of it.
13) Jaspar Naelir (BG)
(No art for Jaspar yet)
He/Him, Shadow Elf from Skemfar (Kaldheim). His magic deals with evoking past life in previously living objects, somewhere between druidism and necromancy. It is empowered by a fang of Koma’s (coil) he carries made up to look like a sword. He looks for secrets of the Einir and how they came to be in “far realms”, other planes that the Skoti may not have purged like they did his own culture.
Link to a spreadsheet for easy reference
The rest of the cast under the cut, this post is already plenty long enough, you scrolled down plenty already.

Just want to say hi and reintroduce my mtg OC to all the new MTG RPers on the scene. (Hope I tag this correctly)
This is the blog for Desz Qincyne, a member of the Azorius senate and, more importantly, a planeswalker who runs the First Interplanar Bank. The bank got its start providing service to Planeswalkers in need of currency on the plane they were visiting. These days, the clientele has expanded to anyone visiting an unfamiliar world in need of banking services. The bank is open for business to all in need of its services.

Since you mentioned it (last week but procrastination), I am curious about what happened to your fanwalkers in the past couple years of events eventing, but to narrow it down a bit more, let's start with the family of Wren, Kuro and Megumi!
Ah, yes, of course, everyone's favorite little family! It's so difficult to juggle my fanwalker canon, since a lot of plot stuff happens like ten+ years in the future, so every time a major canon event takes place I have to male sweeping addendums to their lore.
For the uninitiated: Wren is a vampire from Innistrad who made a name for herself on Kylem in Valor's Reach. She doesn't have any standout qualities that aren't just "vampire traits, but juiced up", but she is especially charismatic and uses that to her advantage. In order to feed, without stooping to murder, Wren hosts orgies with her army of devoted fans, and drinks only small portions of participant's blood. Wten is genderfluid.
Kuro is a soratami necromancer from Kamigawa who met Wren shortly after the events of WAR, and the two of them immediately became entangled in a whirlwind romance. Kuro raises the dead by way of touching corpses, so she can actually use her necromancy unintentionally if she isn't careful. When she raises the dead, she is treated to the memories of their death, and sometimes even other details.
Megumi is their daughter, a soratami dhampir who winds up getting into trouble of her own much later down the line.
By the time the Phyrexian invasion was taking place, Megumi was an infant, which forced Wren and Kuro to remain on Kylem instead of going to the aid of their friends.
Kuro attempted to make use of Phyrexian corpses at her disposal, but getting treated to the memories of what they experienced during compleation made utilizing them impossible. Trying even once exposed her to the Phyrexian brainwashing that it nearly consumed her.
Due to "I already planned out their story way ahead of canon, so they have to keep their sparks" reasons, neither of them were victims to the Great Pruning, but they became automatic go-tos when it came to working with multiplanar travelers when the Omenpaths started opening up.

It was only a matter of time before I sent this ask around... What kind of animal would your oc turn into on Bloomburrow?
Halona would be an otter if we're sticking with the animals that fit the Bloomburrow aesthetic. I considered her maybe a frog for color pie purposes or making her something more themed to her plane/real-world inspiration like a Philippine tarsier, but I don't want to draw either of those and I think an otter is much cuter.
I'd think she'd have a hard time reconciling the fact that the creatures her umbras are based on would terrify most residents of Bloomburrow. Most of them are similar animals to the calamity beasts (i.e. predator or at least territorial) and even scaled down, her hellion umbra would still be closer to the calamity beasts' sizes than not.
Nireta for obvious reasons would be a bird. Originally I was thinking something coastal/aquatic like the sandwich tern (a absolutely hilarious name), but a lot of her siren features feal more raptor like. I ended up going with the eurasian magpie. She could also probably go more cardinal like to fit more in with the plane's vibe, but I think it fits her better.
She'd at first be dissappointed losing her hands even if she'd get used to using her feet quickly, but she'd be annoyed when Halona 1) started hanging her new height over her and 2) spent their entire time on the plane using as many animal puns as she could possible.
Catrina would be a badger. Originally I thought she'd be a squirrel, possible with mange, if only for the comedy of a hilarously strong character put inside a tiny body, but a badger actually fits her personality much better.

Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let's spread the self-love 💞
Luckily, I have written at least five things! <sigh of relief>
In no particular order:
Once Was Lost - The start of it all. I still “enjoy” the feeling that the inevitable approach to the gallows gives.
To Tame A Tiger - We are all miss Blaseball, RIV, and all that. I wasn’t as active as I would’ve liked, but I’m still proud of this piece, and how it gives a bit of character to an underrepresented player.
Future Past - While Once Was Lost is the start of things, this is where a little of the meat of the story starts coming into play.
Pulling Loose The Threads - Escalation is the name of the game here, and shows a solid link to the established canon, which I’m always wary about doing.
Holiday In Eorzea - Not just a Dead Kennedys reference! This is easily the most ambitious thing I’ve written to date, and it’s far from over. The sad thing in my mind is that it comes after a lot of other parts that are yet to be written. But sometimes, stories have their time and demand it.
Thanks for the ask, @brasideios! I’ll leave the floor open for anyone else who would like, but I’d like to hear from @kosmosxipo , @mossy-kit, and @cyndakip - Talk some Spit!

A commission by @duskguard of Zarunpel's bonded shadow panther and mount, Velumbra, with a cameo of the knight herself.
She was great to work with, and why I love working with artists that know the source material: They came up with the idea of the hammer at the end of Zarunpel's braids from me just stating it was weighted for combat, and the aesthetics and habits of Knights of Garenbrig.
Beyond that, there will be a dinner of elk meat and shadow that evening!

Is there something your ocs gets homesick for? A person, a place perhaps a particular food they cant get anywhere else or a festival they can't attend anymore?
Ceral has too many homes, his place on Kaladesh, Excepts cottage on Theros, Laan's mothers on Zendikar. He doesn't so much as feel homesick for any of these, but he does long for the home he never got to truly experience on Kaldheim.
Laan missed the time he spent with his father, who is long since passed. He doesnt have the fondest memories of his Kor heritage, but he loved his father.
Except, can't miss what she doesnt remember.
Y'lona often wonders what her life would have been if she wasnt an orphan, if Except had never taken her in.
Zoya misses Mirrodin for what it was and now knows she will never see it again
Atlan, being time phased out from Khans to Dragons, misses the Tarkir he grew up on. That's a boat load of trauma
Samuel is so old that he has forgotten much of his past, but his empty manor only serves as a reminder of the family he used to have. Loathe them as he did, some things can never be brought back.
Sturn is so depressed. He misses his crew, they're all dead.
Kitai was presumed dead for a chunk of her childhood, thanks to sparking, so she does occasionally kick herself for missing some of her siblings formative years.
Aseri isnt hung up on the past enough to really miss anything. She knows that there will always be another festival if she misses one
Cas focuses more on who he's lost, than what. But its in a sense of who he's failed, be it strangers who got caught in the cross fire of sitautions he was a part of or comrades he was too slow to help.

New oc/fanwalker idea—Veena, a Simic microbiologist who shares a symbiotic relationship with the manatrophic microbes colonizing their body.
Since the little prokaryotes feed on (and can synthesize) mana, Veena wears a containment suit (inspired by old fashioned diving suits and modern hazmat suits) that they designed with the help of an Aether engineer on Kaladesh. Although they wear the suit to prevent their symbiota from spreading too much and becoming an eldrazi-level threat, they can be pretty handy when it comes to handling magical materials like etherium and lazotep. With a few modifications, they might even be able to feed on glistening oil….
Might draw them again!!!!
