Using the sleeve of your hoodie, you use the small mirror in an attempt to dry your tears from your eyes before Atsumu came back and caught you. Unfortunately for you, the door flies open with an instant complaint. "Can't do shit here. We need to- What's wrong?"

You bite your lip and try to stop more tears from flooding out at the thought, closing the sun visor and relaxing back into the car seat. Even though you may not be used to the doors yet, you couldn't deny that the seats were almost as comfortable as your bed. "Wakatoshi's moving to Poland." You can't stop your voice from breaking halfway through the sentence, a sign that you were very likely to keep crying about it until you would wake with a headache.

"Is he really? Wow, Adlers are going through it." He turns the key in the ignition and looks back to you when he catches you sniffle. "I'm sorry, it was rough when Shoyo left. Can't believe two of yer friends left. Let's go get KFC, yeah? Cheer ya up. I'll pay."

You look up from your lap, laughing through your tears when you catch him attempting to wiggle his eyebrows are you. "Thanks, Atsumu."

"Here, choose whatever music ya like." He passes you his phone, telling you to keep it unlocked before he carefully pulls out of the parking lot and turns to the main road.

You scroll through some of his Spotify playlists, trying your hardest not to laugh at some of the songs he had hidden among the regular ones. You settle for one of the Fall Out Boy songs in the album, and adding loads of random songs to the queue. "I can't believe he's leaving, too," you mumble, turning the music up a bit louder and settling back into the seat.

Atsumu glances over at you, catching the tear running down your cheek. "Aw, y/n, yer still gonna get to see him. He'll be playing volleyball, so ya can see him when he travels. It's not forever."

You know he's right deep down, but you still can't help but feel hurt that your two closest friends for the last two years have up and left so soon together, and so far away. You were happy for them, you really were, but... Wakatoshi was right, you did feel abandoned. Forcing the tears to stay in your eyes, you look back down at Atsumu's phone and start scrolling through his liked songs on Spotify. And, they were certainly something.

It went from Hollywood Undead, to Taylor Swift, to My Chemical Romance, to MARINA. He really did listen to everything.

"Your music taste is... something. You have Corpse Husband and Sabrina Carpenter in the same playlist." You turn his phone to him even though he can't look at it.

He glances over at you and turns into the gas station, turning his focus back onto the road. "Just means I have fun at any club," he defends himself, stopping the car. "Are ya coming in?"

You nod your head, pulling down the mirror and sighing at your red eyes.

"Here, take these." Atsumu pops open the glove compartment of the car, pulling out a sleek, black case. He removes a pair of gold aviator Ray-Bans, putting them over your eyes. "Problem solved. Can ya run ahead and grab some snacks for the apartment? Just anything, yeah?"

You nod your head, picking up your phone and purse from the floor. "See you in there."

You tuck your phone and purse into the pockets of your sweatpants, fixing the sunglasses over your eyes and walking inside. You lap around the different aisles, grabbing multipacks of crisps and some different types of biscuits. You pick up a packet of chilli crisps and scan over the different drink options waiting for Atsumu.

At the sound of girls squealing behind you catches your attention, turning around to see Atsumu being huddled by a group of four girls around your age. You catch a few words here and there, and Atsumu seems to be bathing in their compliments. You shake your head and turn back to the refrigerator, picking up a bottle of white peach Fanta and slowly walking towards the counter, hoping Atsumu would catch up to you before you were served.

Sure enough, he tapa your shoulder and squeezes in beside you in the queue. "Sorry."

"Oh my god, the Miya Atsumu is talking to me. Can you sign my boobs?" you laugh through your words, unable to keep a straight face. "You love being in the spotlight."

"So what if I do? It's nice having people who appreciate ya," he responds, nudging you forward in the queue towards the empty checkout. "Pump three, and all this."

Before you have a chance to reach for your money, Atsumu lifts his card over the reader. You sigh, picking up some of the snacks to carry them back to the car with him.

“What’s that sigh for?”

“I was gonna pay for that.”

Atsumu laughs. “With what pay check?”

Your jaw drops, a laugh escaping before you can trap it. “Wow, low blow.”

You catch the stares of the fangirls lingering on you and Atsumu, fighting your urge to stick out your tongue at them. Instead, you turn your back and focus your attention fully on the car in front of you. Atsumu dumps the snacks in the backseat, leaving you with your drink and crisps.

“White peach Fanta? Yer disgusting. Don’t drink that in my nice car.” He grimaces at the thought, walking around to climb into the driver’s seat.

“What? It’s nice!”

“Nah, yer gross. But those chilli crisps are nice. Can I get some?” He waits for you to nod your head before reaching over, opening the packet and stuffing a few in his mouth before pulling out of the parking lot and heading towards the nearest KFC. “Thanks, darlin’.”

You raise an eyebrow, side-eyeing him through his sunglasses. “Why’d you do that?”

He hums. “What?”

“You keep calling me darling.” You sit your drink down beside him, taking a couple crisps yourself.

“I call everyone that. Why, d’ya want me to stop?” Concern washes over his expression, taking a fleeting glass at you to see if you were uncomfortable. “I don’t want to make ya uncomfortable, I can stop calling ya darlin’.”

You think for a second, giving him a small smile and leaning back against the seat. “I was just curious. You can keep calling me it.”

You buried your face in your blankets, listening to the quiet patter of rain against your window and the slow crackle of wood from your dimly lit wood-wick candle. You checked your pretty pink alarm clock, mentally groaning at the time. It was already 10:27, and you still couldn't find it in you to get some sleep. It wasn't like it was a school day or anything, but you wanted to somewhat fix your sleep schedule so you wouldn't complain about feeling tired 24/7. You huffed as you rolled over, suffocating yourself in your mattress as you thought about food.

Warm and flavorful instant ramen, sweet sugary Oreos, and a nice cold cherry and cola-flavored Icee. Well fuck, now you were just drooling on your pillow. So what did you do? You flipped over on your bed, snatching your phone from off its charging pad, and texted your loving boyfriend! You tapped away on your screen, fumbling with the buttons to unlock your lock screen. "hey pavi!!"

"HIIIII ML<33 What's up?" he responded nearly immediately.

"HEYYYYY!!! nth I just wanted to see if you wanted to get icee's w me" you replied immediately.

"Icee? What's that?"

"Be at my house in 10 minutes bru cuz ain't no way."

"I'll be there in 3!!"

You giggled, quickly putting on a light sweatshirt over your tank top so you could actually walk to the store. You scooped your box braids out of the back of your hoodie, moving them in front of your shoulders so they weren't tickling the back of your neck and shoulders. You rubbed your eyes, suddenly feeling that drowsiness kick in as soon as you went to walk downstairs. "See. this that bullshit" You muttered in annoyance, still fully set on walking to the nearby 7/11. You sat on the couch for a couple of minutes, playing Candy Crush on your phone as you waited for the familiar rhythmic knock on the door.

You jogged to the doorway, grabbing your keys and slipping on your black Doc Martens before swinging open your front door. You were met with a smiling Pavitr, umbrella in hand, and aura radiating pure bliss. "How did you even get here so fast? Don't you literally live a whole city away?" you asked, tilting your head in confusion as you made your way out of the house, locking the door behind you. Pav quickly angeled the umbrella over you, laughing quietly with a 'damn' expression graced across his features. "I caught a taxi! And then I ran the rest of the way!" he nodded, quickly intertwining your hand with his as you led the way to the mini-mart.

You nodded slowly, pushing the thought to the back of your mind and skipping along the sidewalk, kicking up rainwater and making small splashes in the small puddles across the concrete. "I still can't believe you've never had an Icee before!" you whisper-shouted, giggling at the end of your sentence as you tugged Pavitr's hand along with you slightly. "Is it really that surprising?" He giggled, pulling you closer under the umbrella and resting his chin on your shoulder. "I don't really go to convenience stores, so I've just never come across an Icee!" he explained with a small shrug. "This it right here," you said as you pointed towards the fluorescent white 7/11, squinting at its brightness before making your way into the establishment.

You made your way down the snacks aisle, telling Pav to go grab some snacks so you could pay for them after you got your slushies. You grabbed a cup of shin ramen, double stuff Oreos, and sour gummy worms before locating Pav in the candy aisle, bearing a pack of gum, a peach tea, and a big bag of Tommy's topical gummy bears. "You ready? Aight, c'mon let's go get these slushies" you beamed, eagerly gliding towards the beautiful rainbow machine. There were about 5 flavors; Cherry, Blue Raspberry, Coca-Cola, dragonfruit Fanta, and Piña Colada. "Alright, I don't think I need to show you? But you know how to pour these right?" You asked as you grabbed a large cup, jamming the spherical lid on top of the rim and examining your options carefully.

"Yeah, I'm pretty sure I got it! What flavor are you getting?" He asked as he repeated the process of plucking a cup from its holder and jamming on the lid. You thought for a moment, before lining up your cup with the cherry dispenser, "Ima get cherry and cola...So I can get cherry cola" you replied shortly after. "What are you gonna get love?" You asked as you turned the lever, watching your cup fill with that bright red sugary sweetness. "I wanna get all of them...but I think I'll do Blue Raspberry and cherry," Pav shrugged as he poured the blue slushie into his cup. You swapped places after a couple seconds, giggling as you drank some slushie straight from the spout.

"You're gonna get us in trouble!" Pav whisper-shouted in between giggles as you wiped your mouth clean with the back of your hand. You widened your eyes slightly as you grinned, mouthing a silent "shh!" as you continued to fill your cup. When you finally finished overloading your slushies, you went to the counter and paid for everything like the amazing girlfriend that you are! You both wasted zero time in gulping down the slushies, immediately wincing at the newfound pain in your skull.

"FUCK! BRAINFREEZE!"

Surprisingly, it was Corudan who first came forth. "You honor us with your praise, Reeve. As for our own business, you may address us collectively as the Fantastic Four," he told the Rohirrim leader with about as much modesty as such a moniker might muster, adding wisely, "if it pleases you."

"Fantas—" Horn truncated his protest, also wisely. "W-we can't call ourselves that! Have you gone crackers? No fellowship of mere mortals could possibly withstand the litigious might of the Mouse, if you get my meaning."

They weren't supposed to, logically speaking, but for the sake of the continuation of this narrative let us say that they fully understood the implications of Horn's words (in a very real and legally binding sense)...

"Well, what are we calling ourselves these days, then? I thought we had this all sorted out at breakfast," Corudan grumbled.

"No; you burbled out some nonsense in Elf-tongue and then you said well, that's all sorted out!, and then you fell asleep in your fry-up," Nona reminded him. "Anyway, I came up with the new name! It's Nona's Angels."

"I thought we were the Fellowship of the Auk?" said Hivallion, his voice tiny and somewhat confused. Apparently much had transpired in his absence, including yet another breakfast that saw the fellowship's "beating heart"* riding out into the cold crack of dawn to go fetch (or deliver) one thing (or another) for (or to) someone he just met; the life of a career gofer was ever thus, rife with such gustatory tragedies. Handheld meals hastily crammed down the gullet while balancing a canteen of coffee in one hand, while bouncing nauseously down the barest suggestion of a road, while saddled atop the sagging back of some long-suffering prole of the equine variety, invariably named Freckles or Peaches or Taffy.

Even Glorfindel, who on ceremonial occasions rode a pure white stallion who glimmered in the moonlight and whose luxuriously limpid mane brought to mind the blessed luminescence of of the legendary Silmarils, actually had the gall to name the poor creature "Fánarocco"—simply "White Horse" in the old Quenya tongue.

For all of his other qualities, the Eldar evidently had precious little energy to spare for creative pursuits.

"Nona's Angels! Really!" Horn scoffed. "Might as well call ourselves Horn's Hornbags!"

A dangerous flare arose in Nona's eyes. "Like hell! I am not calling myself a hornbag! I'd rather be an auk!" She paused. "Hivallion, what is an auk, anyway?"

"An auk is a kind of bird—a pelagic bird who spends most of its life at sea, not unlike our murres and puffins."

Corudan scratched his head. "Do they also spend a lot of time running around and arguing with each other about what to call themselves?"

"No, mostly they swim and dive and catch fish," Hivallion went on. "Our smaller auks can also sort of hoover up plankton through their beaks."

"What is plankton?" wondered Nona, at her own peril.

"Tiny little creatures who live in the sea. Like fish lice."

"Great," muttered Horn. With a sigh, he resumed, affecting professionalism: "My apologies, Reeve Athelward. Acute exhaustion may perhaps be taking more of a toll on our operations than previously assumed."

The Reeve jolted upwards in his seat. "Oh no! No worries. Please, I must insist that you take as much time as you might need to consider my offer. Cliving could benefit from the inspiration provided by such diversity! A good, strong Rohirrim man. A woman who carries the pride of Dunland in her sword arm. A Dwimordene of the Lórien, fair of face and sharp of wit. And, uh."

He stopped speaking as his gaze at last settled on Hivallion. His grey eyes crinkled at the corners as his brow turned and furrowed, as if trying but ultimately failing to realize something in the low light of his mead hall.

"Fish lice...?" was all Athelward could manage in that moment.

(* ...with Horn deciding that he would be the "brains of the operation", while Corudan would act as the group's "pretty face" and Nona as their "designated legbreaker". All agreed, it was a most harmonious arrangement, with Nona being particularly excited about the prospect of breaking legs.)

I'm a soda junkie (my terrible teeth can attest to that). I used to drink a 2 Liter of Mountain Dew every day for a couple of years when I was up all night writing my other screenplays, and I am always up to try new flavors (I'm still missing Mango Pepsi 😞) of most brands. But I won't drink Fanta and haven't in ten years; I drank it once in Slovakia when there was nothing else at the little vending machine where I was waiting for the train...they had Peach Fanta, so I tried it... wasn't bad, wasn't great.

Fun fact for those who don't know, or a friendly reminder for those who do: Fanta was invented for Nazi Germany.

With that one exception, I don't buy Fanta, hadn't/haven't for several years upon learning that little tidbit. Sure, I should also eschew all Coke products for being Nazi collaborators, but I don't buy much Coke or Coke products either (though sometimes I just crave a Mexican Coke since there's real sugar in it). I stick to mostly Pepsi products — Gatorade 😶, mostly — and for about a couple of years back, I'd have a 20 ounce of Sunkist Orange every day, because I developed a taste for orange soda somehow after years of hating it (though that was the same with Gatorade...I hated it growing up, but living in a place where I sweat a lot and don't tolerate plain water very well, my taste buds started accepting it). It became my favorite flavor, and if Junkie Cat Lady (a.k.a. Neighbor Wife) was still around, she could attest to that since she would bring me a Sunkist any time she wanted something from me. It isn't the best orange soda by any means...I like Frostie Orange (I also loooove Frostie Blue, and always have one of those after finishing a chapter), but I love, looooove San Pellegrino Aranciata Rossa, which is probably my favorite. Their regular orange/Aranciata is pretty great too. Alta Palla (organic, with fair trade sugar and minimal ingredients) also has a good blood orange flavor, but it's hard to find for me here. My second fruit flavor fave is strawberry, unless you count Coco Rico, which is a Puerto Rican brand of coconut extract soda. I could mainline Coco Rico for the rest of my life. As an old and cranky adult I really can't stand movie tie-ins (like those ridic Fudge Stripes I posted the other day). Hell, I can't stand celebrity promoted products, since they're just doing it for the bag and pushing unhealthy shit on people (like that Doritos Dinamita garbage Ortega so cutely promoted in that Superbowl commercial...their taste was mid and 'off' to me, and I got sick...it was only after I read the ingredients to see that they put fucking sucralose, a.k.a. Splenda, in those damn things, and my body doesn't tolerate that crap well at all...why do honey mustard chips that already have sugar, molasses, brown sugar AND honey in them need sucralose?! Sucralose is garbage and, like all NNSes, alters your gut biome and not for the better.)

Speaking of unhealthy and/or Only Assholes Do This Shit shit, another fun fact about that Superbowl commerical that I noticed immediately since I was a lifelong hardcore* One Life to Live fan: One of the abuelitas was portrayed by Patricia Mauceri, who played Carlotta Vega, Dorian Lord's maid until they gave pushed her into the forefront to tell the story of a poorer Latino fam amongst rich white people...and Mauceri was fired for not wanting to play Carlotta as accepting a gay kid because it conflicted with her religious beliefs, and before any y'all buffer her response with her soft lie that "it wasn't the story per se, it was how it was presented" (as she tried to say), she said quite plainly that "I was not only uncomfortable but I knew that it was going to be a betrayal of my character and my life." That's how Jesus Beaters and practicing Catholic religious Latinos can be. At least the other abuelita was portrayed by Olivia Negron (who portrayed a lesbian on 21 Jump Street in 1990)...but I digress.

The Gemini Collector in me is torn between my values and my desire to put the cans on my shelf along with the Superman/Wonder Woman can and the New York Seltzer cans that I've collected. I'll likely just cave, because my protests will go unheard and uncared for, just like every other goddamn thing I've 'stood for'. I mean, I stopped consuming Pepsi products for about ten years back in the 90s/beginning of the Naughties because they dropped Madonna's commercial due to the religious right's protests (her "Make a Wish" commercial that featured the song "Like a Prayer" (hat tip to Ryan Reynolds here) aired only once during The Cosby Show on March 2, 1989 and was pulled after religious groups got all pissy about the actual video, which aired the day after). I definitely believe in ghosts! I believe in a lot of things -- I can’t say I’ve ever seen one, but I just sort of adhere to a “why wouldn’t they exist” mindset, I guess.

I usually go for root beer! (Barqs is the best, followed by A&W) But I will also accept Sprite, Flavored Coke, and Orange Fanta.

I am weak as hell for yellow or peach roses. The one and only time I’ve ever been given flowers was a bouquet of red roses with one yellow when I turned 16, sent to me by my grandparents. I loved them a lot.

I actually don’t tend to pay attention to soundtracks very often unless it’s actively a musical -- instrumentals are lovely, but they don’t keep my attention so unless it’s particularly iconic [like LOTR or HP, etc] I probably couldn’t even tell you what songs are from what movie. 

That said, I have a lot of favorite movie musicals -- I’m always fond of Devil’s Carnival, and Repo The Genetic Opera. Rocky Horror is a classic. I also have a fondness for Kiss Me Kate, an old retelling of Taming of the Shrew that I fell in love with when I was 13. 

temperance: can you describe a strange dream you’ve had?

Oh boy. I often have really weird dreams. The one that I always come back to as the pinnacle of weird is the time I dreamt I was inside of a whale’s mouth, a la Finding Nemo, and I was watching an orange cat give birth to kitten-sized baby whales. 

For obvious reasons, that one stuck with me.
