I recently got a new laptop (used, but it was a display model), and I can finally fulfill my anime DVD authoring dreams I've had for a few years now. It's complicated, but it's so much fun getting all the files together and making the cases, and my reward at the end is another DVD for my collection! But there's so many series that I want to make a physical copy for, and there's pros and cons for both. So far, I've sharpened it down to two series, because I wanna play them on my CRT tv.
First series is Sugar Sugar Rune, a series I've never finished but own merch for. I have a raw rip of the series that came with soft subtitles that are just formatted in the cutest way.
Maybe I just don't watch enough anime, but most of the fansubs I see are classic Black and White Arial burned on the video. So if I could get these subtitles onto a disc without any alteration, I'd die happy! And along with that, the quality is very good, probably the best it could look without AI upscaling (which I don't plan to do). Overall, not a lot of work for me besides finding stuff for special features, designing the cases, and authoring the actual discs. Maybe I'll run into issues with the subtitles but whatever. I'll figure it out.
The second series is Patalliro, a series I actually have finished and even have favorite episodes of. I don't have merch for it like SSG, but that's because it was STOLEN!!!!! Very long story. And it's the series I've always wanted to burn on a disc, right from the very beginning of my authoring fascination. In fact, it's exciting to think about, because I have rips of the series that are in very lovely quality (compared to what I've seen get passed around). Walk with me for a moment...
The left is the episodes available online on your *usual* sites (ahoy matey, whatever), whereas the right is my files. It's not the biggest quality bump in the world, since I believe Toei has only remastered this series up to 'High Quality SD', so no 1080p goodness here. But no compression, and the noise on the picture makes me all fuzzy inside.
My only issue is the subtitles. As far as I know, there are no SRT files floating around for this series that I just need to download and put into my authoring program. I need to manually make subtitles for all 49 episodes. Which is whatever, like I can make them fancy like the SSG subs and copy the aarinfantasy subs. I just don't wanna rewatch a full series to do these subs :(. I'm lazyyyyyy.
I also need to find special features for my discs. These are for my personal use, but I wanna make them as cool as possible, ya know?? Less 'I just put episodes on a disc and called it a day' and more 'I'm doing this out of the love in my heart'. I have a few commercials for both series that I'll be using, but I haven't been able to find anything like interviews or stuff in that nature. I'm mostly taking inspo from my Geneon and ADV DVDS here. Not sure if anyone is going to reply to this, but if anyone does, I'd appreciate input! Especially if you're familiar with either series, or DVD/BluRay authoring! That is all.
#girlaux speaks#patalliro#sugar sugar rune#dvd#bluray#fanmade dvd#anime dvd#ill pick this project up tomorrow after i actually find an authoring program i like#dvd authoring

Blows my mind that Klaasje or Dolores aren't on (more) promotional art, you'd think they would put at least one female character there but no. Best we can get is Judit. That's like if they put Plaisance there
#people who played the game but isnt in the fandom usually react with 'who??' if you mention jean or judit#klaasje sweety im so sorry. if someone is a female main character its you#i dont think she is a bigger spoiler than harrys coworkers#like at least that one dvd cover has dolores#when people go 'wait what do you mean this game has well written women' cause neither the fandom or the official art acts like it#* or was that a poster. i might have seen a fanmade game box cover

My ode to Clarence: a home release of the entire show.
I had this planned as the day was nearer, so that meant making an original cover rather than rely on promo art with just Clarence, Jeff and Sumo; I wanted Mary, Chad and their friends alongside them.
Mary, Chad, Amy, Belson, Dustin, Nathan, Percy, Kimby, and Breehn were all made prior as separate character images, which took me around an hour and a half in placing each character, putting consistent shading on the right-sided characters, and adding Percy as I never made an existing vector before (mostly because he was my least favorite character). Meanwhile, Clarence, Sumo and Jeff, close to the cover, were made for this, which took me around an hour or so less by tracing existing art I made of them to save time. The "The Complete Series" text was made by tracing the letters from the show's end credits rather than make them in the same font as the title. All this was a big task, but to quote Clarence, it was worth it.
The DVD cover was taken from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends: The Complete Series, with its cover removed with PhotoLayers.
Originally, I almost thought about making a version of this without the digital code, which is basically the Blu-ray Disc logo in place of the "Blu-ray + Digital Code" text
Now Clarence has been my favorite show ever since around 2015 and I still love it to this day. If you love the show, too, express your love in the comments.

I'll just slap a CTC logo on the box, i'm fairly sure the entire project breaks 10'000 copyright laws anyway
thinking about making the hlvrai boxset again-- somewhat unsurprisingly the series hasn't been rated by the ACB or the MPA.
i did however find this in the ACB database
#i mean it's a fanmade project not intended for mass production i'm not sure if it even requires a rating at all#but like. a dvd cover without a rating is just wrong#it'll be there for fun#the hlvrai dvd boxset project#stch

My Foodfight! Collection: Or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love Foodfight!
So here it is, here's my Foodfight! collection. Since I've been writing this blog for over a year now, I thought it was worth finally showing off all the merchandise I've collected during that time, as well as talking about the relationship I've developed with the movie over the course of my many posts. But first, the collection- from left to right, we have the Cinnamon Sleuth cereal box (yes it's fanmade but I still think it looks cool enough to be included), the Junior Novelization that started it all, a Daredevil Dan plush, a Dex Dogtective plush, a copy of the movie on DVD, the Deluxe Sound Storybook, a Polar Penguin Plush, and 18 inches of Cheazel T. Weasel.
The plush toys are especially interesting- I don't think I've really discussed this before, but they all have a tag on the back stating they're not to be sold at retail... I guess these were only intended for arcades and carnivals as prizes, which is where they ultimately ended up, but I've heard at least one person who worked on the movie claim these were being sold in stores as well. So... chalk that up to another unsolved mystery, even if it's not a particularly interesting one. If I had to guess, the Playmates action figures and more detailed plush toys I talked about a while ago were meant to sold in stores, but the deal fell through and somehow these cheaper Nanco plush toys ended up there instead, on top of arcades and carnivals as originally intended. Maybe Nanco just produced so much stock, anticipating the movie to be a big hit, then when it got delayed time and time again they had to sell them off however they could. I know these Nanco plush toys come in a BUNCH of different sizes- for instance, I have an 18 inch Cheazel, but there are smaller variants that show up on eBay every now and then. Speaking of Cheazel by the way...
About 10 years ago, a small child in Nebraska got stuck in a claw machine trying to win a Cheazel plush, with the incident even making the local news. You can read all about it in the above link- thankfully he was fine and nobody was injured, but it's just crazy to me that something Foodfight!-related was picked up by the news media and that there was a kid out there who wanted a Cheazel plush so bad he was willing to crawl into a machine for it. It's also a testament to how, after the movie came out, these plush toys were EVERYWHERE- there are so many stories of people finding them at local carnivals, and it's why a lot of them are still showing up on eBay to this day. I wonder if the Cheazel plush I have now is the same one this child tried to win many years ago...? Probably not, but it's certainly a possibility.
One more thing about the toys while I'm still on the topic- I know I've mentioned it before, but a bunch of concept art and prototype images for the Playmates plush toys and figures were found among the recently shared files from the Foodfight! tie-in game, and I just thought I'd share them here for anyone who hasn't seen them yet. While I love the idea of Dex Dogtective's Price Gun and the Daredevil Dan Crash N' Spin Plane, I've gotta say.... the plush toys we actually ended up with are WAY cuter. I know they're just prototypes, but look at how bulbous Cheazel's eyeballs are, it's just offputting. Granted, the character is equally if not more offputting in the actual movie, but when you compare it to the Nanco plush...
I mean just look at him, he's adorable!! How could you not like him, how could anybody like him? The tongue sticking out, the dopey expression on his face...he's just a rascal, a scamp, a mischief maker. I think in general the Nanco plush toys are by far the most visually appealing versions of the characters, partly because they're soft and huggable, but also because they all look really friendly and gentle in a way the designs never really did onscreen, even in the early footage.
Anyway, as for the rest of my collection, there's not a whole lot TO say about it that I haven't already said- I've already discussed the novelization and Deluxe Sound Storybook at length, I made the Cinnamon Sleuth box myself, and the only notable thing about the DVD is that one of the Chapter Select options takes you straight to the end credits. And so I instead wanted to take this time to talk about how Foodfight! has affected me over the past year.
When I first found the novelization on eBay, I just KNEW I had to write about it. Nobody else was talking about it, it was the only copy available for purchase anywhere, there was no other mention of it on the entire internet, and it seemed like no-one else even knew it existed. I was inspired by Ryan North's B To The F blog, in which he reviews the similarly obscure Back To The Future novelization, feeling this could be my very own "B To The F" moment. That kind of moment only comes along once in a lifetime, and so even though I was in the middle of an incredibly stressful move at the time, I bit the bullet and started my blog anyway. Ever since then... it's like Foodfight! exploded, all over the internet. A large part of that was of course thanks to Ziggy Cashmere's incredible work on ROTTEN: Behind The Foodfight, but it still made me feel like writing about the novelization opened a Pandora's Box of Foodfight! material across the world, or like I was living through an ARG designed just for me. I made a fangame, interviewed a cast member, I even got a speaking line in the aforementioned ROTTEN, and the more I wrote the more Foodfight! news seemed to come out. Every time I thought we'd found everything there was left to find, something new would come up and I'd be pulled right back into it. And through all that...god help me, I actually started to like Foodfight!.
To be clear, I still think it's a bad movie. As a matter of fact, it's one of the worst movies ever made. BUT...it's the greatest movie STORY ever told. Everything that went on behind the scenes, all the scrapped tie-in products, videogames, crazy anecdotes about the director, it all coalesces into something much greater than itself. In the same way, it felt like writing about Foodfight! allowed me to be a part of something greater than myself too. I got involved with a community of like-minded fans, was lucky enough to able to share previously lost media with the entire world, connected to the internet in a way I hadn't in years, and did something nobody else had done before and will likely never do again. Maybe THAT'S the real Foodfight!...no, I really mean it. When you dedicate enough time and passion towards something forgotten and obscure, it takes you on this special kind of journey that's hard to describe, but you come out the other end with this genuine appreciation for it you couldn't have found anywhere else. Like if you didn't care so much then maybe you would never have got it, but you did and so you you really DO understand. Like at the end of Be Kind Rewind, when Jerry and Mike can't save the video store but it doesn't matter because through making their movies they brought the community together and shared a story in the way only they could. Maybe that's what this was for me, sharing a story in a way only I could. To date, not a single other copy of the novelization has surfaced anywhere... it really does feel like it was my destiny to write about it. Even if I stop updating this blog someday, I'll never forget about everything I went through writing about Foodfight! The Junior Novelization...but for now, here's to another year.

here is the space on my bookshelf dedicated to my major special interests. there are two TAWOG things on there - a mad libs book is tucked in before the mayhem manual. i should probably invest in collecting the TAWOG comics.
then you have my fanmade caddicarus DVDs + the official caddicarus blu ray. i don't think i've posted the spines of my DVD cases publicly yet, nor have i mentioned i added a fourth set for the 2023 episodes, so that's exciting.
then you have the huge onward section. when i noticed i was getting a special interest in a mainstream animated film i knew i had to take advantage of all the chances to collect merch. my precious sp/ins didn't have as much merch obviously, so i went crazy here.

To celebrate Kung Fu Panda 4 now released on digital, I figured I'd make my take on the 4K, as well as DVD, and Blu-ray.
The first cover I started with was the DVD back cover, which was on April 3 during midnight; I stopped to watch the first three Kung Fu Panda movies on Blu-ray for the first time. I didn't resume my work until around April 7, where I later worked on the Blu-ray and 4K's back cover art. As I wanted to have the my Paramount Home Entertainment 4K back cover to match with the official Universal Pictures Home Entertainment 4K's; that also meant doing the same for the DVD and Blu-ray back covers. Of course, I wanted the back covers to match with the most latest back covers of Paramount Home Entertainment's releases, so I looked at a variety of the late 2023 covers and early 2024 covers for the text and pacing of the jargon on the back covers.
As the back covers were finished, I then got to work on the front covers; all of which I went with presenting the spine and skipping the flat front covers.

So, the G1 men who are women in at least one other continuity;
Override (Cybertron, Bayverse, Aligned, Animated maybe there are two Overrides — one male and one female)
Joyride (Cybertron)
Tread( )bolt (Energon)
Cliffjumper (Armada)
Ironhide (Armada)
G2 Windrazor? (Ask Vector Prime, Legends, 2007 toy)
Red Alert (Universe toy in Japan, Animated)
Bombshell (Cybertron)
Nightbeat (Animated)
Sunstreaker (Animated)
Wingthing (Animated)
Drag Strip (Animated)
Thunderclap? (Aligned)
Whirl (Aligned, sort of — there's the male empurata Whirl in the Wreckers but also a female Whirl in Rescue Bots, the man barely exists in the continuity)
G2 Skyjack / Skyfall (Aligned)
Skimmer (Kreo)
Swoop (Cyberverse)
Nova Storm (Cyberverse, Earthspark)
Skywarp (Cyberverse, Earthspark)
Cosmos (Cyberverse)
Frenzy (Earthspark)
Devastator was apparently female in some random universe somebody hopped into for five seconds in some Funpub comic i think? But it was Funpub so...
Unicron Trilogy Optimus Prime from some play was apparently established as a woman in Ask Vector Prime. I didn't write her or Devastator down originally because they're barely canon, so i'm going off of memory.
Unicron Trilogy Scourge was also female in the same thing, because clone of Optimus and all.
Dub gender changes;
G1 Starscream was female in the movie's french and turkish dubs, but only the movie. Male in the rest of the series.
G1 Shrapnel was also female in the movie's french and russian dubs, but movie only.
Cyberverse Thrust was female in the japanese dub (renamed Red Wing).
Miscallenous;
G1 Ratchet was originally imagined as female by Bob Budiansky until Hasbro banned him from putting women in their boy show (tfwiki says the Shout! Factory dvd extras have images of Budiansky's handwritten concepts, it doesn't say if anybody else might've been mentioned as a woman in those but it's possible. I can't access them so).
Cyberverse Jazz would apparently have been a woman if she'd appeared more, even though the toy or something referred to her as male.
There could be more, or some dub stuff etc. which i could be missing. Or something could be weird on the list, i went through tfwiki's female transformer list over twenty hours ago and only wrote down names and continuities and whether it's actual or a dub thing.
Also note that tfwiki considering characters "G1" means Generation One continuity family", and doesn't necessarily mean they were in the Sunbow cartoon or the Marvel comic or in the japanese sequel to the Sunbow cartoon. They could've debuted in IDW1 or even IDW2, or some random tie-in crap to something.
Wait no, there were also maybe at least two bots who were female in TransTech, but i didn't write their names down because TransTech was basically fanmade. TransTech also had a bot who switched between male and female in-universe, as in more than once, but idk if they were in any real continuity. I might have ignored more prseudocanon gender swaps. I don't remember.
Also not women, but Cyberverse Acid Storm is genderfluid (tfwiki used they/them), and some bot named Screwball not being on the binary was mentioned on Nightshade's page but idk Screwball's continuity.
Now that gives us quite the list!
