#fanfiction writers know the best ask them what happened

Note
acting like you’re some woke person just because you advocate for middle aged women to be lifeless on the internet is not the flex you think it is 💀
You seem rather passionate about this so I’m going to indulge your ask to let you know three things:
Writing is a hobby that gets better with age, life experience, and practice. The best pieces of writing objectively come from older people and I’m not talking about fanfiction. I mean books and literature. I’m serious—go look at some of the most well known pieces of literature and then search up the ages of their authors during the years they were published. You’ll find the older writers tend to bust out bangers and this principle is very much applicable to fics too by default. Also writing fanfic is not “lifeless” lol. Some of you act like writing fanfic is juvenile compared to a novel and it’s rly not that different from writing an original piece of fiction. Sure, sometimes fanfic can be a little less on the conventional side in terms of technique. But genuinely the concept of putting characters into situations to create a plot is literally the main thing on both sides here and if you think writing fanfic is silly, it makes 0 sense to hold creative writing to some pedestal. Some fanfic writers demonstrate AMAZING original world building skills especially if they write au’s that diverge from canon and I think you are out of your mind if you think this hobby is not oftentimes an impressive one rather than “lifeless”
Being 30+ doesn’t automatically mean you must/do have a family and kids but I’ll still indulge that point and say you can easily balance a work and personal life while also having a hobby. I know middle aged men who dedicate more time to hobbies like hunting and fishing than middle aged women do with writing. One actually requires you to leave your house and family behind and the other you can do from the comfort of your home and tend to your family should you need to. I think the nature of your opinion only stems from a misogynistic view on aging women but that’s another can of worms
People don’t stop consuming and enjoying things as soon as they hit their third decade of living. If that’s your viewpoint on life, you’re going to set yourself up for a very miserable time once you hit 30. If you’re already 30+ then you’re a hypocrite by default by even being here in the first place lol. Also, life is literally so fucking silly okay? You wake up, work, pay taxes, and try to get by with what is usually an underpaid paycheck. Just fucking enjoy your life and let others enjoy theirs okay? If a 30 year old likes anime, then that is literally so god damn harmless I cannot stress enough how unimportant that is. There are 30 year olds out there doing heinous things in their free time and you choose to be bothered by someone who happens to produce an assortment of words from time to time. Please reevaluate your priorities
All things aside I cannot convince you that being 30+ and enjoying fandom and fanfic is not weird unless you really just realize that it’s not weird. Idk how old you are but I assume you’re younger than 30 because no 30 year old would be on fandom tumblr and then bash others for it. But regardless, just because you think something is weird doesn’t mean it’s bad. It is literally the most harmless thing I do not understand why you would care so much, just move on???? When you think someone dresses weird in real life do you go point it out to them??? No you think it to yourself and move tf on—and if you would voice it to them then you are literally a rude individual. Plain and simple. Rude and disrespectful and I would suggest you again, reevaluate. And it’s the same principle here. You just move on. If you seriously cannot be convinced that this is normal and just absolutely are dead set on believing that 30+ year olds who enjoy fandom are weird, fine. But just keep it to yourself it is the bare minimum you can do to be a decent person I cannot stress this enough to you
And one more thing. The people who are writing the mangas and animes you enjoy so much are middle aged. Older than 30/40. Grown people who might even have families and kids. Creativity has no age limit it is just a small joy that people indulge in at any age and it’s a very nice thing when they share it for others to enjoy, as well. Please just enjoy someone’s art and live a little. I promise you will be much happier and peaceful if you just read a good fic without worrying about the age of whoever produced it. I guarantee you a lot of the BEST fics you’ll read will come from the older writers they are literally doing you a favor if you happen to enjoy reading fanfic. Why bite the hand that feeds you?
#my asks#i really didn’t want to answer this because I think this ask#was sent with the intention to get a reaction#however I think that in general a lot of you view fanfiction as a juvenile thing to enjoy/partake in#therefore you think that older people who participate in the consumption/creation of fanfic are also juvenile/weird#and I think you should really abandon that opinion unless you think creativity as a whole is something that is meant for people in their 20#your opinion seriously becomes applicable to most creative outlets and then you essentially strip 30+ year olds of creativity as a whole#and that is just a very weird way of viewing the world idk#I would suggest being a little less uptight about fun and it’s so called constraints

Edit: the app launched and Is down- I have the initial apology video in a post here and I’m working on getting a full archive of their TikTok up ASAP. I’m letting the rest of this post remain since I do still stand by most of it and also don’t like altering things already in circulation.
Warning for criticism and what I’d consider some harsh to outright mean words:
So I’ve just been made aware of the project known of as ‘lore.fm’ and I’m not a fan for multiple reasons. For one this ‘accessibility’ tool complicates the process of essentially just using a screen reader (something native to all I phones specifically because this is a proposed IOS app) in utterly needless and inaccessible ways. From what I have been seeing on Reddit they have been shielding themselves (or fans of the project have been defending them) with this claim of being an accessibility tool as well to which is infuriating for so many reasons.
I plan to make a longer post explaining why this is a terrible idea later but I’ll keep it short for tonight with my main three criticisms and a few extras:
1. Your service requires people to copy a url for a fic then open your app then paste it into your app and click a button then wait for your audio to be prepared to use. This is needlessly complicating a process that exists on IOS already and can be done IN BROWSER using an overlay that you can fully control the placement of.
2. This is potentially killing your own fandom if it catches on with the proposed target market of xreader smut enjoyers because of only needing the link as mentioned above. You don’t have to open a fic to get a link this the author may potentially not even get any hits much less any other feedback. At least when you download a pdf you leave a hit: the download button is on the page with the fic for a reason. Fandom is a self sustaining eco system and many authors get discouraged and post less/even stop writing all together if they get low interaction.
3. Maybe we shouldn’t put something marketed as turning smut fanfic into audio books on the IOS App Store right now. Maybe with KOSA that’s a bad idea? Just maybe? Sarcasm aside we could see fan fiction be under even more legal threat if minors use this to listen to the content we know they all consume via sites like ao3 (even if we ask them not to) and are caught with it. Auditory content has historically been considered much more obscene/inappropriate than written content: this is a recipe for a disaster and more internet regulations we are trying to avoid.
I also have many issues with the fact that this is obviously redistributing fanfiction (thus violating the copyright we hold over our words and our plots) and removing control the author should have over their content and digital footprint. Then there is the fact that even though the creator on TikTok SAYS you can email to have your fic ‘excluded’ based on the way the demo works (pasting a link) I’m gonna assume that’s just to cover her ass/is utter bullshit. I know that’s harsh but if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck it’s probably a duck.
I am all for women in stem- I’ve BEEN a woman in Stem- but this is not a cool girl boss moment. This is someone naive enough to think this will go over well at best or many other things (security risks especially) at worst.
In conclusion for tonight: I hope this person is a troll but there is enough hype and enough paid for web domains that I don’t think that’s the case. There are a litany of reasons every fanfic reader and writer should be against something like this existing and I’ll outline them all in several other posts later.
Do not email their opt out email address there is no saying what is actually happening with that data and it is simply not worth the risks it could bring up. I hate treating seemingly well meaning people like potential cyber criminals but I’ve seen enough shit by now that it’s better to be safe than sorry. You’re much safer just locking all your fics to account only. I haven’t yet but I may in the future if that is the only option.
If anyone wants a screen reader tutorial and a walk through of my free favorites as well as the native IOS screen reader I can post that later as well. Sorry for the heavy content I know it’s not my normal fare.
#it’s especially insulting the way this is marketed as solving a problem when the solution already exists#ableism#lore.fm#terrible app ideas that shouldn’t happen#serious#accessibility#screen readers#lore.fm should not launch#accessibility tools that are inherently ableist in design#I wish I was making this up

Somebody wrote to ask me for advice on writing. This is what I told them:
I'm terrible at giving writing advice. I know that the best advice for one person can be the very worst for another, so feel free to ignore all of this except for the very first bit:
There are a lot of people who will tell you they can help you write better, get your manuscript edited, get your book published. A lot of them just want your money. As a general rule, don't give people your money for what you write -- make people give you THEIR money for what you write. I've heard this called Yog's Law: Money Should Flow to the Author.
Check out the Writer Beware site run by SFWA.
Not every writing program is a scam, but don't think you have to have an MFA or attend a famous writing workshop to be taken seriously as a writer. You don't.
Decide who you are writing for before you start. It's okay to write for yourself. It's okay to write for that one person in high school with whom you shared fanfiction. (I did that, it was The Thief). It's okay to aim for a worldwide audience and it's okay to write for the three people in the entire world who will appreciate your story. When you run into criticism (and you will) you want to be able to ask yourself if the criticism is coming from your audience. If it's not, take it with a big grain of salt.
Writing can be hard work and it feels good to work hard, but it's okay to do it for fun. Maybe you just want to write craptastic fanfiction -- you should do that and I hope you enjoy yourself. Don't let other people dictate what "worthwhile" writing is.
Don't be afraid to write badly. Don't be afraid you'll "waste" that really good idea you have because you couldn't write well enough to do it justice. You'll have another good idea.
You have to write to be a writer. That sounds obvious, but you have to figure out for yourself what makes writing happen and then you have to do it. Some people will tell you their way of writing is guaranteed to work. Do not believe them. Some people can set themselves goals -- they write 2,000 words a day and they are good words! Some set themselves a goal and they waste an entire day squeezing out 2,000 garbage words. Sometimes the conditions that you need in order to work will seem silly. Friederich Von Schiller kept rotting apples around to sniff while he wrote. I don't know if that would work for you. Only you know the way for you.
Good luck,
~mwt

i wish we had alloaro representation in media. a charming character who fucks - both literally AND aesthetically. one that makes other characters go "wow! they're so cool and good in bed, but ultimately un-datable, because as soon as they sense any romantic intention on you, they flee" (kinda like lucifer morningstar from "lucifer". he's aroallo in my heart)
a character who's funny and has a horrifyingly 80's sense of fashion (they have a curly combed-out mullet and mismatched earrings. you'll find them at pride wearing a corn costume because it "matches the aroallo flag" and they're "being subtle") or one who's the embodiment of a 60's greaser (their motorcycle helmet is themed after the aro flag and the back of their leather jacket says "LOVELESS / LOVE LOSES") or one who's a girly fanfiction writer that has more ships than a star wars movie (their fics are muntifandom-ly famous and most their stuff is covered in yaoi/yuri patches and stickers. everyone thinks they're a hopeless romantic because of it, but that's exactly why they're so big on the fiction ≠ reality discourse) or...
anyone else, really. just ultimately a HUMAN who's casually aromantic. one who doesn't make it a parade but isn't subtle about it, either. will they hold other character's hands? maybe. kiss their cheek? perhaps. hang out with them, on picnics and walks along the river? can't see why not! but platonically. or maybe have them be genuinely romance-repulsed & not so eager to participate in anything socially perceived as romantic. that would also be amazing.
let them express themselves sexually! let them fuck. give them a..."fuckbuddy", if you must. or a best friend who's sexually involved with them - classic romcom material, i know - but without it being "complicated"; because there's no romance involved to complicate it.
give them funny scenes. another character tries to kiss their lips or ask them on a date? they laugh nervously, the scene cuts and we get a hilarious shot of them escaping through the bathroom window. or audibly saying "ew" and then regretting it. another character is struggling to write a romcom/romance book without it being corny? we get a scene where our character casually describes the most romantical (and, to them, unappealing) plot ever - because, much like aces acing the smut department, they're far from misunderstanding what is or isn't heartstopping for alloromantics - only to have the other character stare at them like "?????????? HELLO????". give us a scene of them being confused as to why their hookup is yelling at them for acting "so casual" and responding with a quotable shitty line ("just because we had sex last night i can't call you "bro"? / "what? expected me to marry you or something? get off my bed, it's 9AM" / "would you rather have me mad? sad? what's happening here. give me a hint")
but give them complicated scenes too. scenes portraying the loneliness that comes with being aromantic but not asexual, the lack of community. them talking about how hard it is to maintain sexual relationships just sexual. the painful "breakups" because one of their friends declared their undying love for them but they cannot possibly match that energy, even if they wanted to. have them weep because somehow that keeps happening. the unfairness in being accused of heartlessness and selfishness by other queers. the shame on being told they're fetishistic and the reason why queer men/women/people are seen as sex-crazed or impure.
...anyways, i'm rambling- do y'all have any aroallo ocs? or ideas for alloaro characters? maybe aroallo headcanons? i'd love to know what you think! :)

Quick Evil Note
To all my wicked darlings, I have now received rather a lot of messages asking me about the influences of Long Live Evil. And I wish to get messages about LLE and truly appreciate the ones I do get! And I wish to answer them. But answers about influences are tricky.
The book has been out in the US for a little over two weeks, and it’s going so well so far, I couldn’t be more delighted and appreciative about its reception.
But also I’ve been informed (not asked) that two of my characters are obviously somehow both Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy of Harry Potter, and Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji of Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation. (Very puzzling as I don’t think these pairings - and one isn’t a pair - have much in common with each other or with mine. Vague hostility against a vaguely academic backdrop for a bit? For the record… in the book everyone is an adult and I don’t even have any academic backdrops to be vaguely hostile in front of…) This hasn’t happened to me in a long time, because I haven’t had an original novel out in a long time due to illness, and it is upsetting to always be discussed differently than writers who didn’t openly link their real names to their fan identity.
I have very different feelings and new appreciation for fandom than I once had. It’s been amazing to see and meet people who have stuck with me for decades. People are generally way more open and affectionate to and within fandom than they once were. Love matters to me a good deal more than hate. But getting death threats in your early 20s for excitedly telling your Internet friends you were going to publish a book does mark the psyche, and so does having your characters dismissed as other people’s characters.
And we can say there is nothing wrong with fanfiction or writing fanfiction and there isn’t! Fanfiction is great and can be genius. Terry Pratchett wrote Jane Austen fanfiction, and didn’t (and shouldn’t) have people saying Captain Wentworth = Captain Vimes. Still, when a TV show is discussed as ‘like fanfiction’ or when Diana Gabaldon said she didn’t like fanfiction and many said ‘YOU write fanfiction’ it isn’t intended in any kind spirit, even when it’s fannish folk saying it. And it’s just generally odd to have everyone call your apple a tomato, and has had professional consequences for me in the past.
However! All the asks I’ve received have been very kind, and I do want to answer them. I do want to talk about my influences because they are manifold and because I actually think it’s important to always talk about influences. I don’t believe stories exist in isolation - we tell tales in a rich tradition, and also a story doesn’t come alive to me all the way until it’s heard or read.
Long Live Evil is a love letter to fandom: it’s chock full of references to many many stories I’ve loved, to fairytales, myths and legend and Internet memes and epic fantasy and meta. My acknowledgements are endless partly for this reason. I do owe a great debt to many portal fantasies and archetypes and musicals and jokes about genre and plays through the ages, though I do think of my characters as themselves and nobody else.
I was frankly tempted to go ‘Yes I stole EVERYTHING! Bwhahaha!’ But while I am thoroughly enjoying and finding great freedom in my villain era, I do want to talk sincerely to you all as well, especially when asked sincerely interested questions.
But I’m a little scared to do so and have people say ‘AHA! Now we know what it’s fanfiction of’ (it’s happened before) or ignore me and go ‘we know the truth!’ (it’s happened before) and to feel like I’ve injured my book. Long Live Evil means more to me than any other and I really want to get talking about it right, and make sure it has the best reception I can give it.
So. Questions on all Evil topics very very welcome but answers to influence questions may come slowly. Bear with me. I am working on this!

Thoughts about A Biltmore Christmas that could drive me to write fanfiction (spoilers for everything):
The story of his death was a plan "we" concocted just in case. "We" suggests there were multiple people involved. My best guess is that Ava also saw Lucy disappear, and so she was primed to buy it when Jack told her this wild story of time travel.
Maybe the prop guy was involved, too? Repairing a magical time travel artifact has got to give you some insight into the existence of magical time travel.
I still thing that one bearded guy in the crew is a time traveler. He seems more casual about it. Time traveling to help a classic Hollywood film crew just for fun. He could help arrange things, too.
The story of how Jack managed not to get fired after helping a criminal escape against direct orders from the head of the studio.
About five minutes after Jack decides to stay in the future, Margaret stumbles upon them. Her shrieks of joy can be heard from space.
Lucy: Okay, Jack, time to fly back to Santa Monica....oh, wait, you have no ID. /Margaret, somehow making a facial expression that is the equivalent of fifty-seven ecstatic emojis all at once: ROAD TRIP!!!!!!!!!
Lucy: Excuse me, Mr. Tour Guide Riker, sir, I have a film star from 1948 here what do I do with him, please?/ Mr. Tour Guide Riker, handing her a manila envelope: Here are all necessary identification documents to set him up in a modern life. Please ask no questions.
(I know what Tour Guide Riker's name is. Tour Guide Riker is funnier).
Alternately, the thrilling legal battle of trying to get Jack some documentation, the same way that kids whose parents don't get them birth certificates have to.
Lucy comes home to her sister, trailed by the 1948 actor from the film they've watched multiple times a year since they were kids. Lots of freaking out happens.
Jack, who has trained as an actor in an extremely outdated style, struggles to find a job not only because of his dubious legal documentation, but also because he has zero marketable skills. With the same happy-go-lucky pluck that led him to travel eighty years into the future for the sake of a girl he'd known for a couple days, he makes the best of it and becomes an amazing house husband.
Jack watching the remake of His Merry Wife!, and having a lot of opinions about the comparative skills of the new actors. Is either extremely amused at the new Charlie actor or offended by his very existence. (I can't imagine the Hallmark actors would favorably compare to the original).
Jack: Honey, I'm sure you're an amazing writer, but I can't even begin to wrap my head around the new style of movies.
Lucy: Puts Jack through a months-long training course of classic movies to catch up on the history of cinema.
Jack Huston is an obvious stage name. Jack starts going by his original name in the future. It takes a while for Lucy to adjust.
Jack has to catch up on all of history for the past seventy-odd years. Too much amusement potential to even know where to start.
Did Jack fight in WWII? Does this affect his life at all?
Semi-regular encounters with classic Christmas movie fans: "You look just like Jack Huston." "Yeah, I get that a lot."
Jack cosplaying at Biltmore at Christmastime and having the time of his life quoting the film and getting pictures from people who are amazed that the staff found such a good impersonator.
#hallmark#a biltmore christmas#hopefully writing it out like this will get rid of the urge to actually write any of it#i'd be more ashamed that i'm even feeling the desire to write something about it#but look: stories about celebrities time-traveled to the future are kind of my thing#and this one has the added bonus of an imaginary movie#of course my imagination was going to seize on every detail

Hotd writers choosing to adapt Mushroom's records out of everything they had in hand is the worst decision they could've ever come up with btw.
It's been stated time and time again that while F&B is purely built on records and gossip and morphed retelling of events out of bias and propaganda, Mushroom is the LEAST reliable of all the sources. He's a fool at Rhaenyra's court, his job is make people gasp and laugh, not retell historical events.
We're talking about the same guy who said that he had a penis large enough to match the size of his head, mind you. Also, he's obsessed with little girls giving BJs to Targaryen men somewhere in Flea Bottom. It's happened twice according to him.
The writers' reasoning for this choice is basically that F&B was written by Maesters and Septons, who were all greedy men, apart from being Green supporters. So anything they say is false, anything they say is written with sexist intent. Writer's intention was to do the exact opposite.
Then tell me, for the love of God, tell me, why is every woman apart from Rhaenyra, who is clearly whitewashed and I can go into heavy detail about that, basically shunned?
The Maesters claim Alicent left Viserys' body to rot and swell for days preparing and LEADING Rhaenyra's usurpation. She's the leader of the Greens, she and she alone. Not Otto. The Green Council answers only to her orders, they are loyal to HER.
I've seen people argue that since Alicent is what Maesters view as an "ideal" woman, then they would try anything to paint her in the best light possible. While I agree that this may be true, I don't think this is the case. In history books, even in real life, women are rarely painted as leaders or important figures.
For Queen Alicent to be written as THE face of the Greens, you know this mama wasn't playing around.
Now, how is this:
In ANY WAY, even comparable to THIS?:
At the end of ep.8 and quite literally the entirety of ep.9, Alicent is shown as a lost woman who doesn't even seem to know what she's doing, pushed by Viserys' last words about prophecy rather than SHEER DESIRE to get her hands dirty for her children's safety (which by the way will always be superior imo). The Green Council conspires behind her back, and on top of it all, she's yelled at by one of her own men and is made to take it like a beaten dog.
Moreover, we had Helaena's ROAST (yes it was a roast, my Queen inherited cunty lines from her cunty mother) against Aegon and her coronation, the latter being addressed as something quite wholesome, if you ask me. Alicent places her own crown upon her daughter's head and calls her "my Queen" after kissing her cheeks and kneeling. Afterwards, her and Alicent are literally written to be the only ones who could get through Aegon II's thick skull when he wanted to start the war right then and there as a result of Rhaenyra crowning herself on Dragonstone.
You hear me??? Aegon sat down and fucking listened to the two women in his life. Not the Council, them. These two were dogwalking him, the KING, on the daily, how is that sexist writing on the Maesters' part????
Yet these things are nowhere to be seen in Ryan Condal and Sara Hess' "progressive" show. We got beaten dog Alicent and Helaena being nothing but a walking spoiler machine other than yet another instrument to paint Aegon as the big bad wolf and usurper. Not a single scene of them counseling Aegon.
Baela and Rhaena have nearly no lines or scenes that don't show them in the presence of the Strongs. They are seemingly okay with anything Rhae throws their way because it's Rhae. The one and only scene about Baela openly speaking to her grandma about her wish to fight for Rhaenyra was deleted.
Meanwhile, Rhaenyra is stripped of her rage and thirst for vengeance, and instead made to negotiate for peace while in the books she was the one pushing to go to war first.
Can you tell me, again, how the fanfiction that is Hotd supposed to prove that they want to be "progressive" in contrast to the Maesters' "sexist" work, when literally all they do is whitewash Rhaenyra and sideline any woman who isn't her?

your generation has, like, zero attention span for epic tales
Questies! Welcome to Musetember, our prompt challenge during September based on the Ancient Greek muses and the ways their stories and themes can inspire fanfiction and art.
We have nine different themed prompts and a special tenth - The Chorus - that invites you to participate through commenting or lists of recommendations.
Unfamiliar with the muses? We’ll take you on a journey through them all. Every muse inspires, but each has a domain that resonates with her the most. Write a story that embodies the muse who speaks to you most strongly, or write something inspired by each one in turn. You can interpret their domains as broadly or as literally as you like; the main thing is to create in whatever way feels best to you.
Calliope invites you to tell us an epic tale. Whether it’s the final battle between good and evil on Andowyne or a re-telling of an ancient legend from the old gods and heroes of our world, this is your chance to go ageless and big. What’s an epic tale? Classically these were long works like The Odyssey, passed down in stories upon stories. Don’t have the attention span for a tale quite that epic in length? Maybe your tale is epic in scale or ambition, rather than word count.
Melpomene looks deep into your heart and asks you, what is the worst that could happen? The muse of tragedy, she has seen over and over again the ruinous and inescapable paths people create for themselves and the ones they love. How could Sorsha doom her daughter to a loveless marriage? When hope is lost, what survives?
Thalia is here to make you laugh. With her, it’s time to embrace the most ridiculous premises, the silliest goobers and the bawdiest jokes you can imagine. Really revel in the humorous side of Willow, a comedy of errors, even a vaudeville au - just don’t forget that happy ending.
Erato - more like E-rated! Erato is the muse of erotica, so it’s time to get your smut on. Write a moment of intense passion, of aching desire, of the deepest, horniest bond imaginable.
Clio is your invitation to look into the past. As the muse of history, she’ll be with you whether you’re exploring the story of the first six fey to be cast out of the Grove, or if you’re deep in the research for a historical au in our world.
Polyhymnia welcomes you to explore religion and ritual. Speak to us of the Order of the Wyrm, of beliefs that shape the lives of the Bone Reavers… or of Catholic schoolgirls just trying to catch a moment together.
Euterpe sings. The stage is set and the orchestra is waiting - it’s time to celebrate music. Embrace the inspiration found in song lyrics, in band dynamics, in a brand new video edit, or ask yourself: does Kit really know how to play those instruments in her room?
Terpsichore extends her hand to draw you into a dance. From sexy grinding in a modern au to an aching slow dance in the rain, dance can be about self-expression or tight, rigid control.
Urania looks far beyond this world and draws your attention to the stars, to the two moons lighting up the sky. The muse of astronomy is as present in the far reaches of the galaxy in a sci-fi au as she is in the constellation of Jade’s freckles.
Finally, we come to the Chorus. In Ancient Greek works, the Chorus often represents a voice speaking to or with the audience, a bridge between the world of the story and the world outside it. The Chorus is vital. Without their commentary, something important is lost from a story. Those who comment on fanfiction as just as important - you readers are part of this challenge too! Tell the writers what you’re thinking, how you’re feeling. Leave a comment on a favourite story that fits the thematic domain of each muse. Write up a rec list for your favourite muse, and share your favourites so that others can discover them and dive in.
Rules and some specific writing challenges below the read more!
Writing Challenges:
Still needing more inspiration? There are different ways you can approach this. You can write whatever style your heart wants, or you could try your hand at one of these challenges that interpret the muses’ calls in different ways.
The Fragment Challenge Write a drabble of 100 words, or write multiple drabbles as if they were glimpses into the same story with missing pieces in between. For artists, share a fragment of a work in progress - anything unfinished!
The Epistolary Challenge Write in the form of letters, a diary, newspaper clippings, social media posts… Or how about Nockmaar’s trip advisor?
The Lost Scene Challenge Write or draw a scene we missed out on in canon, or a scene that gives the impression it is part of a longer, unwritten fic.
All of these give you a fun way to explore the things you choose not to tell the audience, and play off the Ancient Greek theme that our muses inspire.
Rules/FAQ
How long does the challenge last?
From September 1, 2024 until Oct 6, 2024.
How do I share my cool stuff?
If it's a fanwork appropriate for AO3, we'd love it if you added it to the challenge AO3 collection, which will be open until the challenge ends!
What pairings apply? Is this just Tanthamore?
This challenge is open to all Willow fanworks! You can create things for any prompt with any character or characters from Willow, you can write different pairings, you can do whatever you want forever. Just make sure that your fics are tagged appropriately!
Can my work be any rating?
Yes absolutely! Write the most E-rated thing your little heart desires, just tag it as such so readers can decide for themselves what they'd like to engage with.
Can it be any length?
Sure! There is no minimum or maximum word limit.
Does it have to be based in Willow canon?
Nope - it can be canon, canon-divergent, or any kind of AU you would like to write!
Does it have to be finished?
Nope, not at all. If one of the prompts inspires you to start a long fic, you are still totally welcome to add it to the collection during September and carry on working on it after the challenge is over.

VOL 2: The Sun Shines Even on the Cloudiest of Days by @faenix16
Aziraphale gets lost in memories of before the fall happened, Crowley does their best to cheer him up.
For this year’s GOMM Reverse Bang run by @go-minisode-minibang! I had the pleasure of working with two amazing writers, so presenting the second of two! FaeNix wrote a very sweet and cozy story (with a dash of angst) that's perfect with an afternoon tea. Read it here!
[Image Description: Mock book cover and page for a “Good Omens” fanfiction set in the 1920s. Alt text is provided and copied below the cut. End ID]
Copied Alt Text
Image One:
Book cover featuring female-presenting Aziraphale and Crowley in 1920s fashion. Aziraphale peers through a magnifying glass, wearing a yellow and white blazer and skirt set trimmed in plaid and matching brown hat, gloves, and bow tie. Behind him, Crowley wears a white embroidered frock and sunhat with a black velvet overskirt and faux fur-lined cape.
The cover text reads: “A.Z. FELL AND Co. The Sun Shines Even on the Cloudiest of Days. Written by Faenix16. Illustrated by Doodles With Angie.”
Image two:
Book page with illustration and text. Both male-presenting, Aziraphale reads a mysterious note while Crowley fondly looks on in the background.
The excerpt reads:
Going back to looking out the window, though now with a soft smile on his face, he finished his tea. As he picked up the pot to pour himself a new cup, he noticed a folded slip of paper hidden underneath. Giving Crowley an inquisitive look, he asked, “Do you know what this is? There isn’t usually paper under the teapots.”
They looked smug, and waved him to open it. “You’ll see what it is soon enough Angel.”
Huffing at them, he opened it, reading the line written on it under his breath. “Scarlet is the colour you’ll come to learn, in a Study of threads. What? This is a riddle of sorts. Did you do this?”
“It looked fun when I saw a group of young ladies doing a larger version earlier today. Thought you might like it.”

Romani character portrayals in fanfiction
Rroma Dick Grayson, batman fanfiction
endoftheworldhere asked:
I wanted to write a fanfiction about what Dick Grayson’s life would have been like if he wasn’t adopted by Batman. It was going to have him dealing with the bad parts of Gotham City and interacting with various criminals and rouges, But I was worried that could come off as stereotypical or racist since he’s been portrayed as at least part Romani and I wanted to include some connections to his heritage as a way he clings his parents after they died so traumatically. Any advice?
The thing about Dick Greyson is that he was retconned into being part Romani, and the writers did so in a very stereotypical way. A lot of Romani people have talked about this, especially on Tumblr, and opinions do vary about how he should be written. Many think it’s best to ignore his “heritage” and just write him as white, while others disagree and think that his heritage is important representation and should be written, but more respectfully.
I honestly don’t know my personal opinion on this, but I will say that there is a huge stereotype about Romani people being criminals. If you do plan to write him as part Romani, make sure to avoid these tropes. Otherwise, I would just nix his Romani heritage.

Romani woman, curses and Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Anonymous asked:
I'm struggling a bit with a piece of fan work right now, and I was hoping you could weigh in. In Buffy season two, there's a character named Jenny, who we first meet as a techno-pagan computer science teacher, who helps Buffy and co deal with fighting demons and stuff. Only the thing is, she's Rromani. She's there to make sure a family curse stays on a vampire who killed someone beloved to them a century ago (mostly to protect people from him if Angel/Angelus gets uncursed), which everyone gets mad at her for not telling them when he loses his soul and goes on rampage. Ordinarily, it's not hard to write her, because until that arc, she's a fun character who happens to be a Rroma woman, and as other characters use magic, that doesn't stand out. But the whole curse thing, and the depiction of her family we're given, (and the way a canon redemption arc for Angelus I can't stand starts with him getting a soul as a punishment for killing a Rroma woman in 1898), and the everyone being mad about deception all just feels like many negative stereotypes. What would be your thoughts on depicting Jenny, and on what to keep in mind trying to rewrite how she was shown in the show. [Ask redacted for length]
Let me just start out by saying that I am not very familiar with Buffy, so thank you for the context. I think your best bet here would be to drop the curse plot line altogether, as that’s a huge stereotype about Romani people. I think it’s ok to have her do magic, as long as other characters also do, and although I do think the vampire stuff is also a stereotype (a lot of vampire lore is supposedly taken from some Romani folklore, and Romani people are often associated with vampires in pop culture), I think it’s fine given the context of the show.

I can't stop thinking about how IWTV spent a LONG TIME in pre-production hell until it only actually got made VERY SUDDENLY once Anne Rice died. I think there's a correlation.
Those of us who have been around long enough to remember what Anne Rice was like about Lestat know she was hyperfocussed on him much more than any of the other characters.
I think this affected production. I think she might have been indecisive and controlling, and possibly unable to fully commit to letting a team play with her vision. I think that would have really ground casting and other creative processes to a standstill. I don't know, I just know how it felt.
I remember READING ABOUT a Vampire Chronicles series for about ten years or so and thinking it would never happen because she'd never let anyone have Lestat as fully as is necessary for a series unless she was show runner herself, but that wasn't going to happen because she was a writer, not a show runner, she was old, and she couldn't decide on how to best do her characters justice, and didn't trust anyone else.
- (maybe understandable, given as she originally wouldn't watch the IWTV movie, and QotD was objectively an awful adaptation) -
I stopped caring because I didn't think it would ever happen, and if it did I expected it would be the Lestat Show and nobody else would be more than supporting cast.
Aaaaaaaand then pretty much as soon as she was dead it seems like they SUDDENLY got greenlit for everything, like yes start rolling, Sam come out of hiding, period change is approved, 1900s NOLA go go go!!!
I'm asking because I genuinely don't know what Anne Rice ever knew of the actual series, and I feel like the long pre-production period was kind of tied to her not being entirely down with it?
Hey!
Soooo... Anne knew. Christopher knew / knows, too.
Both likely signed an NDA I would assume.
This show has a history, as you point out, and I talked about it (ages ago) here (with links):
(Do read @cbrownjc's excellent addition that is linked in there, too!)
And this history likely resulted in an NDA when AMC bought all rights... and did not use Christopher's script. Imho.
So Anne knew I bet, and if she hadn't been so (fatally) ill then, she would have come to adore the show I think. Because, as you know, she also hated the movie, and the casting, and and and... and ultimately, she loved Tom Cruise's Lestat. And so on.
I mean, it was a very personal thing for her - as we all know she modeled them on herself and Stan and Michele... and throughout the years and the decisions wrt fandom and fanfiction and so on that always came through.
Anne knew, unfortunately she died just when they started filming.
But, you know... I bet, if she were here, she would see it as a handover of Lestat to Sam. Because everybody keeps saying he is possessed, and I can only agree :))))

Two Aslaz fics in less than 24 hours? I know-I can-I practise 😎
I saw this pic and immediately imagined this mess of legs being Aslaz 🙈😂
Remember that house where Alaz hid Rüya and her father? Because I do as well as Alaz's promise to take Asi there for some alone time 😏 So here comes some Aslaz sexy times hotness, humour, fluff and silliness and a pinch of sadness.
I don't own the show or any of the characters. They belong to the Yabani writers and the production company. This is only fanfiction.
____________________________________________
Compromising Positions and Unshakable Faith
Alaz is staring at the ceiling, trying to catch his breath. Asi is sprawled on top of him, breathing just as hard. Their limbs are tangled together and their overheated bodies are glistening with sweat.
"Wow ... We really are the best at this" Alaz mumbles into the crown of Asi's head.
"Shut up!" she slaps his chest and hides her face in embarrassment.
"What? Just stating facts" Alaz says with a cocky smile.
Asi moves to roll off of him but Alaz catches her by the waist and secures her position on top of him. She squirms a little which draws attention of a particular part of Alaz's body.
"Again?" Asi asks incredulously.
"Always" Alaz responds with a shit-eating grin and a devilish glint in his eyes.
He flips them over, making Asi yelp in surprise. Her legs fall open and he settles comfortably between them. When he brushes at her, a groan escapes her, which makes Alaz frown in worry.
"You okay?"
"Yeah, just a little sore".
"In that case, round three can wait".
Alaz bumps Asi's nose with his and moves to her lips to drop a short kiss but Asi winds her arms around his neck, pulling him closer and opening her mouth. At the touch of her tongue, Alaz can feel the skin tingling all over his body. He's getting lost in their kiss when he suddenly feels Asi stiffen and pull back slightly only to whisper:
"You heard that?"
With his brain turned into a complete mush the only thing Alaz can master is:
"Hm?"
"I heard something. A car? Oh my god! You said noone ever comes here!"
"Noone does!"
"Then why do I hear voices?"
"What voices? There are no vo..."
And then Alaz also hears an undeniable sound of two voices he'll recognise anywhere - his mother's and the other belonging to his twin sister.
He looks down at Asi whose eyes have gotten comically wide. She starts whisper yelling:
"Oh my god oh my god oh my god! You have to hide me!"
She pushes him off of her and Alaz lands on his back with an oof .
"I have to what now?" he asks in disbelief all the while watching Asi wrap herself in a sheet hustily and clumber out of bed.
"HIDE ME!"
Before Alaz can say something they both hear the front door open downstairs, the voices of his mother and Çağla getting louder.
Alaz leans back on his elbows and looks at Asi who's clutching the sheet to her chest.
"Güzelim, I am not going to hide you like some dirty little secret. And it's not like they don't know about us".
"Well, they don't know about this" Asi all but hisses at him, gesturing between them with a finger.
"I think it's pretty obvious to them that this happens as well" Alaz throws back wiggling his eyebrows.
"You won't be getting any of this any time soon if you don't hide me!" Asi threatens just as they hear Çağla at the bottom of the stairs:
"Mom, I think someone's in here. Must be Alaz. Alaz?!"
Asi in a full blown panic mode looks around the room frantically. And just as Alaz opens his mouth to yell out a response to his sister, Asi darts to a walk-in closet, throws one of the doors open and all but jumps inside.
"Alaz?! Alaz! Are you in here?" Çağla's voice is getting closer and Alaz lets out a short laugh and shouts:
"I'm here! In the bedroom!"
Given that Asi took the sheet with her, there's nothing else to cover himself with but her pillow. Which Alaz strategically places over his groin just as Çağla opens the bedroom door.
"Hey, what are you doing he... OH MY GOD! MY EYES!"
Çağla covers her eyes as she yells and turns away from Alaz quickly.
"Oh my god! Why are you naked??!!"
Alaz doesn't have time to answer that because he hears his mother's voice alarmingly close:
"Çağla, what's happening? Is your brother here? Alaz, oğlum, what ... Oh!"
Neslihan isn't as vocal in her reaction as Çağla but she does turn away quickly as well.
"Oğlum, what are you doing here?" Neslihan asks just when Çağla jumps in with:
"Are you here with someone? Well, it's obvious you're here with someone. Wait a second! Are you cheating on Asi?!!!"
Suddenly all horror and embarrassment forgotten, Çağla whirls around and stares furiously at Alaz who all but squeaks out:
"What?!!"
Neslihan also turns to face him, disapproval written all over her face.
"What ... Why are you looking at me like that? I am not cheating on Asi!"
"Well, your are in quite a compromising position!" Çağla throws, gesturing vaguely at Alaz and his overall state of undress.
"First of all, I know that she'll feed my dick to dogs if I so much as think of anything like that. Second of all, I can't even get it up if it's not Asi ..."
"Oh god, TMI !" Çağla yells but Alaz continues:
" And the third: why, instead of thinking I am with Asi, would you rather think I am a cheater???"
"Well, where is she?" Neslihan asks.
"In the closet".
Both Neslihan and Çağla raise their eyebrows incredulously.
"In the closet? What is she doing in there?"
Alaz shrugs with one shoulder and says:
"Hiding".
"Hiding?"
"Yes, she's embarrassed" Alaz says and adds a little louder, for Asi:
"Asi, can you, please, yell something out from in there so that my mother and sister know I'm not a cheater?"
There's a pregnant pause where Alaz stares at the closet doors and his mother and sister stare at him expectantly. Then they all hear a muffled:
"Çağla, Neslihan Teyze, don't yell at him, he's not a cheater!"
Alaz looks at his mother and sister with a triumphant "See?" written all over his face.
Both women at least have the decency to look contrite.
"Okay, we'll just ... leave you two to ... to get dressed" says Neslihan and pulls at Çağla's hand.
Just when they leave the room, closing the door behind them, Alaz throws away the pillow and jumps out of bed.
"Asi? You can come out, they're gone" he says, picking his pants up from the floor and pulling them on.
When there's no reply or any sign of movement, Alaz goes to the closet, knocks on one of the doors and pulls it open, only to see Asi sitting there, face hidden behind her palms. He crouches down to be eye level with her and pulls her hands gently away from her face:
"Hey! Is this where we live now?"
Asi just nods.
"Okay. Make some room for me then" Alaz says.
Asi moves a little, freeing enough space for Alaz to get inside the closet as well and sit next to her. He throws an arm over Asi's shoulders and pulls her into his side.
All the comedy of the situation dissipates suddenly and Alaz is left with a heavy feeling. His mother and his sister thought the worst of him yet again. It seems that Asi can read his mind because she puts her hand over his heart and says quietly:
"Don't go there. I know you'll never do that to me and to us".
"I swear I will never. I'd rather die".
"I know" Asi repeats and turns her face to press a kiss into his collarbone.
They sit quietly for a few minutes until Asi breaks the silence:
"We should go down. Your mom and Çağla are waiting".
"Can we just stay here a little longer?" Alaz whispers.
Asi snuggles closer to him and whispers back:
"Yes, we can".
And here - in their little cocoon of love - Alaz realizes that it's only Asi's faith in him that he needs.

Monday of Appreciation: Part 102
Hello everyone, Smite here!
First MoA post in the new era. What has changed? Not that much, really. I'll still list a couple of stories I found good below and tell you why you should read them and leave love for the writers. It's insane to me how many writers are attempting Kinktober and really release fics every damn day. One of those (mostly short) smuts is even on this ranking!
Update: I am writing. Slowly. My work is spread across multiple pieces so I don't know when one of them gets finished. Patience, friends.
Here we go!
-1-
@iznsfw: Day Off ft. Xiaoting
IZ when normal smut: GOAT-esque
IZ when commission: LITERAL GOAT
I can't stretch how fucking GENIUS this 10k threesome with fucking Xiaoting is. Really, I can't stretch it, like I can't stretch her pussy. okay wait what. IZ has done it again, and I'm soooooo close do doing a Kep1er agenda post, because there is 0% pureness in that group.
-2-
@ggidolsmuts: Bases Loaded, Holes Filled ft. Xiaoting, Yujin, Mashiro
Ahem, agenda time:
WE. NEED. MORE. KEP1ER. SMUTS. And if you think there are enough, you are wrong, and you will be wrong. The best way to write more Kep1er is to write more Kep1er in a Kep1er fic. The more members, the merrier. Thank you, dear comrade ddeun for doing your part, now it's up to YOU to spread the Kep1er agenda!
-3-
@okaylikesmomo: Exchange Pt. 1: Behind the Stage ft. BLACKPINK
BLACPINK SLUTS BLACPINK SLUTS BLACPINK SLUTS BLACPINK SLUTS BLACPINK SLUTS BLACPINK SLUTS BLACPINK SLUTS BLACPINK SLUTS BLACPINK SLUTS BLACPINK SLUTS BLACPINK SLUTS BLACPINK SLUTS OKAY QT<3 BLACPINK SLUTS BLACPINK SLUTS BLACPINK SLUTS BLACPINK SLUTS BLACPINK SLUTS
-4-
@essentiallyleaf: Kinktober Day 6: Dacryphilia ft. Karina
This mf posts like 100 things a day and has literally done Kinktober up until this point, so you might wonder why I picked this part. Well, it's because Karina, deepthroat and fucking dacryphilia. Fuck, shit makes me rabid.
-5-
@existslikepristin: Joy, but Genie index ft. Joy
This is more than just a simple one shot story or series. Our dear ELP does voting at the end of each part which determine in which the story might go. It's a great mixture of decision making and unpredictability because ELP has a blooming fantasy. The premise is basically that Joy is a Genie, you have three wishes and it's definitely gone sexual.
-6-
@dreamcatchers-husband: Don't give in ft. Handong
Oh, you better give in and read this, because there is [REDACTED] at the end.
What? You thought I'd spoil what happens in this fic? No, definitely not. Give Handong some love and some dong (otherwise she'd only be Han (haha (I'm in misery, kill me))).
-7-
@braaan: In all the ways that matter ft. Yunjin
So idol x fan fics are... like the simplest, most basic stereotype in kpop fanfiction. Put a couple of twists on it and it's already getting more interesting, but if you can actually do a unique story that has me engaged in more than just "Yunjin is literally sex incarnate, breed" you got yourself a good fic.
Look, this is a good fic, reeeead it!
That's it for today. Feel free to send me asks. Have a nice time, until we meet again on MoA!

FAQ
Since I’ve been getting same questions all the time, it’s probably for the best I finally made this post!
When do you update?
As it’s stated in my pinned post, I don’t have any schedule — therefore I update whenever I finish the whole process of writing (drafting, writing, editing).
I can’t see your pinned post. Why?
It’s most likely that you have to change your settings first to see mature content. I heard you can do that through browser since app doesn’t have that option yet. This link might be helpful, check it out!
What inspired you to write?
I’ve always had a close relationship with writing but it’s never been that serious. My proper first memory of writing something was when me and my friend wrote stories for each other haha. I decided to write and post my first fanfiction after I read a few of them. It inspired me to try it on my own and here I am. (A very short version hehe)
What’s your favorite story of yours?
It depends on the day, it changes almost every day haha so I guess we’ll never get a proper answer!
What inspired you to write Mutual Help?
I just wanted to write a fake dating au + Jungkook series. It somehow just came together! Nicely I hope hehe!
How many chapter is MH gonna have?
I don’t know unless it’s stated otherwise. It’s hard to give you an approximate amount of chapters. But I’ll inform you either in my author’s note or here under the tag ask: mutual help.
What ending it’s gonna have?
That’s something I don’t want to answer and reveal. I wish to reveal it in the story!
My asks weren’t answered. Why?
It might be the case of multiple reasons.
Tumblr might’ve ate your ask. It’s no secret that sometimes happens (unfortunately).
I don’t feel comfortable answering that particular message/question.
Your question has been just answered recently. I recommend checking tags for each story (ex. ask: mutual help, ask: monachopsis etc…). I understand not everyone wants to catch up with my asks, but please understand I can’t answer the same respective questions over and over again 🥺 I would do nothing else than just answering the same questions every day.
One of the reasons might be because I’m getting many asks daily & it’s impossible for me to answer them all. I really wish I could but unfortunately, that’s not possible 🥺 and for that I apologize! It came to that point where I have to be picky and choose what to answer and what not.
Have you ever wanted to be a professional writer? Is that your goal?
No! This is just a hobby for me 😊
Do you have any fics recommendations?
All my fics recs can be found under the tag “fic rec” 😇

ooooh found your blog recently and as someone who really likes bakugou, this was very uncomfortable to read! but you make a TON of good points.
I completely agree with your take on bakugou's final arc. I wasn't happy with it either (to be fair I kinda just skimmed through the manga after paranormal liberation). We don't see scenes where he's relieved that the world's been saved, we don't see scenes where someone he cares about is threatened, we don't see him accept that being second is okay, we don't see him go collaboration over competition. His arc would've been much more complete if they showed him showing empathy. I think his core, his absolute drive to keep going, to never give up, to keep trying, is rather inspiring, and it wouldn't have been diluted if we'd seen a moment of reflection --of going, "It doesn't matter if I'm second, if someone else is chosen, because trying is what matters."
I don't know. I like Bakugou's character. I like the idea of him changing gradually. I like fanfics made years ago that have much better final arcs for him. I like that he keeps trying --because isn't trying sometimes all that you can do? It's hard to uproot your belief system --one that was encouraged by so many people, one that made up his identity for a long time. I like that he simultaneously doesn't care what people think of him and cares way too much. He's multidimensional and conflicting, and that's hard. He's growing as a person in itty-bitty steps, but it's happening.
I don't really know why I'm writing this --a gesture of understanding? Because Bakugou's my favorite character, and it's clear you hate him, but I think we still agree on a lot of points?
Feel free to ignore this --I think, at the end of the day, people relate with different parts of different characters, and they'll see either the best or worst in them-- and we're all entitled to our own opinions.
No, this is worth giving an answer to. I agree with you on why Bakugou's character arc was lacking.
Listen, I may be a bit of a Bakugou hater, but I consider myself a fair hater. I'll call balls and strikes as I see them.
I'm so harsh on him because of the lack of follow through on his character arc. Because I did have expectations for Bakugou after all of that buildup. I realized around the time of the apology that it was never going to happen.
It's also made worse by how much panel time he has which makes the lack of follow through all the more glaring. Bakugou as a concept could have been an interesting character with an author who was willing to take a few more risks. I've said it a couple of times, but one of the main issues with Horikoshi's atonement arcs is that they reek of insecurity. They get too much focus and there is too much telling over showing on how the audience is supposed to feel about them.
A lot of fanfiction writers do great things with the potential Bakugou's character had. (And some people spend so much time there that they forget what exists in canon is subpar.)
I do appreciate you taking the time to read through my blog and leaving this ask knowing it probably wasn't fun given the critiques I have of your favorite character.
Thanks for the ask
