So apparently today is Fanfiction Writer Appreciation Day and I love so so so so many writers from so many fandoms they've all helped shape me growing into the person I am today. So I'd like to take a moment to give an extra special thanks to some of them now (if your name isn't here I still love and appreciate you because even a one sentence fanfic can make me smile (or cry))

To all my mutuals that are also fanfic writers (and to all fanfic writers out there):
I see you, I love you, and I appreciate all the hard work you put into the stories you write. Words will never be enough to tell you all how much having your fics has helped me (and honestly probably saved my life during some really bad times).

It's fanfiction writer appreciation day, and I appreciate you! You and your works are amazing.
oh my goodness!! I can't believe I missed it D:
I feel much the same about you!! I am so jazzed about working with you on the @winterhawkbigbang and can't wait to see your works in full bloom when posting starts :')
I still think about your "not what I wanted" series on the regular, particularly the JARVIS-centric piece "Not what I wanted to observe" which just hits in all the right ways. A definite re-read for me and one of my favorites despite the hard topics and content; JARVIS is just such an incredible character to explore as you did.
Thank you so much for this lovely compliment, I'm always delighted to see you in my notifs!!

Fanfics on AO3 are very well tagged these days. You see barely a few authors (mostly amateurs) who don’t tag their works. Most of the time, if there are no tags, then there are summaries and warnings listed in the author notes.
So if you’re reading a well-tagged work and going to comment shit about it, don’t. You know what you’re going to find in there. If it’s not something you like, just leave.
Don’t harass those authors, man. These platforms are just creative outlets to most of them, an escape from their realities. A lot of times, these are the things that keep them going. Don’t be an asshole about it.
Don’t like, don’t engage. It really is that simple.
If you’re really brimming with hate that much, find some other ways to let it out. Idk, maybe smash a plate, pick up a sport, whatever. Just don’t hate on people for doing what they can to keep going while not harming others.
Damn, but the audacity people have here to put others down like that. Yikes.

Another year, another Fanfiction Writers Appreciation Day!!!! If you are a writer of fanfic, please know just how appreciated you are!! Fandom would be such a different space without your creativity and labors of love. 💜
Holidays are all about making traditions, and the bookbinding friends with @renegadeguild once again came together to bind copies of fics for their authors as a show of our appreciation. This year I had the absolute joy of binding Emergency Help Wanted by the wonderful @piyo-13 and even got to collaborate with her on some of the design elements! It's a Modern AU Jiang Cheng/Lan Xichen fic that starts with a "help wanted" ad.
EMERGENCY HELP WANTED
I lied when I got my job. I told them I had a kid so I could leave early from work to pick him up from daycare, take him to doctor's appointments, and occasionally miss a day when he's sick. Long story short, I'm in too deep. I didn't think it through. Looking to rent a kid for bring your child to work day. Must be a boy ages four to six, longish dark hair, likes soccer. Must also be artistic as the macaroni noodle paintings I made seem a little advanced for his age. Also, I will pay extra for someone willing to play the role of husband when dropping him off. He's a prosecuting attorney who often brings his work home. Message me for further details. Serious inquiries only.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ok. So. I may have gone a little feral with this one. Online "help wanted" ad spiraled into loading wheel scene dividers, spiraled into fake Google search result headers, spiraled into FULLY committing to those authentic looking text messages. In full color. (There are so many. I typeset in MS Word. It was SO worth it, but god what a struggle at some points.) And don't forget the "recent searches" title page! Or the computer cutout on the cover! (It's bluescreening, just like Lan Xichen through this entire fic!) Also that cover/title page image that I just kept adding details to. (It's supposed to be Lan Xichen's desk, so it simply didn't feel right until it had sticky notes on the computer, #1 dad on the mug, scissors and measuring tape, scribbles on the sticky notes) Did I have a ton of fun designing this one? Perhaps. Couldn't say. Maybe just a tad. (This is a lie I had an ABSOLUTE BLAST!)
Historically, I've waited until I finish at least the typeset before reaching out to the author, but not so with this one! I got the idea for the fake google search results from Piyo's authors notes, teasing the contents of the next chapter. But! Those didn't start until about chapter 4! So I reached out and asked if we could collaborate and I'm forever glad I did! Not only does this have teasers for each chapter, I also got to bounce design ideas off of her, including what shade of blue and purple for the text messages. Because my friends, that is a serious matter and changed SEVERAL times throughout the process.
Also shoutout to all my Renegade friends who gave input and encouragement over the past year while I worked on this (what endpages to use? how to make this shade of green perfectly Nie Huaisang? how do we feel about this text message design? or how about this one?) - I love you all dearly and appreciate you so much for putting up with my nonsense at all times.

These itsy-bitsy A7 books are three copies of white queen, red heart and snow white, blood red by @ofgeography
One copy was for me, one was send as a gift to the author, and one is for Goose @imaginariumpress who is generously helping me with actually delivering author’s copies for Fanfiction Writer’s Appreciation Day this year.
🩸 The color scheme was right there in the prompt, so here are the bloody tiny books.
🩸 The covers are white cotton hand dyed/painted with red ink; the same ink was used to paint the edges (I wanted at least some bleed, and ink does that);
🩸 Title pages feature the dark forest and the dwarf caverns;
🩸 The fancy drop caps and the page numbers are bleeding. I really love this effect for vampire stories, it’s so extra!
🩸 But probably not as extra as typesetting the entire book in blackletter, but it felt appropriate for the dark fairy tale vibe the stories got going on.
I had a lot of fun with this project, and I really recommend checking out the stories if you somehow haven’t already!

IT'S FANFICTION WRITERS APPRECIATION DAY!!! TIME TO SHARE SOME LOVE!!
Fanbinding: Mud Knights by @lightshadowverisimilitude
Tumblr media
John had obviously managed to take care of himself just fine before he met me, and he had Cujo the Linebacker to take care of whatever he couldn't himself (though I got the impression that John was perfectly capable of handling most threats). I'd only known the man for a few hours and I'd apparently already dragged him into my friend circle whether he wanted to be there or not – all of that meant that it was my job to keep him safe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This fic is so fun and by lovely fellow Temeraire fan ladyshadowdrake! Their copy arrived last week so here are the two of them together! Harry Dresden & John Marcone (& Hendricks!) get a little down and dirty in Undertown. This is definitely a common reread fic for me; the prose & humor and characterization is spot on.
This is a color palette I haven't really worked with before and I'm loving it!! The greens and the browns are lovely. The moon on the cover is inlaid marbled paper, the cloth is colibri, and the endpapers are by @renato-crepaldi.
Tumblr media
I found a very cute Chicago skyline watercolor, which incorporated in a line art trace on the cover, on the title page spread & section titles with a watercolor moon. To finish out the spread I grabbed a jousting knight, and I'm very happy it how it turned out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
While the spine is a little curved there due to some styling on my part, this is technically a flatback book... which I had previously stated I would never sew an endband for bc I though it wasn't worth it. Whoops. I didn't realize until afterwards because these little sewn endbands felt so integral to making it cohesive 😅.
Much love to you, @lightshadowverisimilitude, for sharing all your wonderful work & creativity with us, and for being a lovely friend to hang out with in fandom.

What Does "Supporting Writers" Mean? ✍️
Apparently it's Fanfic Writer Appreciation Day! To all my fellow writers, I truly appreciate you for bringing me joy, making me smile on rough days, and giving me my weekly/daily dose of escapism and warm fuzzies. (Shoutouts to you personally below.) 💓💓
But what does it mean "practically" to appreciate your favorite writers, especially on Tumblr?
For example, I know some fanfic authors are starting to block "serial likers": people who'll go through someone's entire masterlist and hit the "like" button on 20-something stories without commenting or basic reblogging.
While I think blocking them is extreme, I understand the authors' frustrations. I've actually been asked if I'll ever leave Tumblr, since many of them have dropped off over the past few months, or even the past few years.
I'm still here for two very important reasons:
I love to write about my favorite characters. I write primarily because I love it, not just for the kudos.
I'm friggin' blessed to have a lot of friends and lovely readers on here and Ao3 who support me immensely on my writing and on this blog in general. I love and appreciate each and every one of you! Which is why I do my best to reply to your comments and reblogs. 💖💖
Of course, there are many reasons why a writer might take a break or stop writing entirely, but one of those reasons is also why the #supportwriters tag exists...
And why you'll see us include banners like this on our posts:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Credits: cafekitsune, me, inklore)
That being said, here's my own rule of thumb on how I try to support my fellow writers when I read something I enjoy:
If I "liked" something, it means I had the time to read a story all the way through and I enjoyed it! (Or I'm bookmarking it for later in the day lol)
If I have the time to read it, I have the time to leave a comment on what I liked the most about it.
If I have the time to write out a comment (anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes), I typically put that comment in a reblog -- maybe even add a gif or two for ✨razzle dazzle.✨ That way I can share it with the rest of my followers, so they can see it and hopefully enjoy it too...
Why? Because Tumblr isn't TikTok or IG. Reblogging is the best way to help a post gain traction on Tumblr. The algorithm doesn't care much about likes.
But on a more human level, supporting writers is just the basic thing of -- if you enjoyed something you read (that a writer shared for free), just let them know what you liked about it.
Remember that there's a person behind the content you enjoy. They might have been working on that story for weeks or months, or even years before they got the courage to post it.
They might really be putting themselves out there, writing about a topic or subject matter that they're not sure people will even like or engage with.
Maybe they're exploring something new, like a character or trope they've never written before.
Maybe they're expressing part of themselves that they haven't even told another living soul.
Maybe they just wanted to write something fun and smutty or angsty or fluffy and want to share the escapism with you.
Whether they've been writing for years or are just starting out, any and all is valid.
For me, as a writer and a reader, supporting my fellow writers often means supporting my friends. And 9 times out of 10, the way we became friends was by leaving feedback on their work and asking them questions, or responding to their awesome feedback on mine.
If you want a little jumpstart on how to leave feedback, whether encouraging or constructive, here's an awesome post about it (not mine).

Shoutout to some of my favorite writers 💞:

The Golden Bird: Part 2
The Golden Bird: Part II by @pierrotwrites-hc
Tumblr media
For (Fan) Fic Writer Appreciate Day (August 21st) I decided to bind The Golden Bird: Part 2, the second part of one of my absolute favorite fics EVER.
I tried to match the same style I did in my previous bind of Part 1 of the series, but still making it unique in itself.
The custom end papers were made from the painting Ganymede by Gabriel Ferrier with a book quote (one of multiple quotes i used in this bind as I couldn't pick just one since the prose in this story is so beautiful)
Tumblr media
Foiled title pages because I love foil and have a lot :)
Tumblr media
For the typeset itself, it is very similar to the one i did for part 1, except included some drop caps
Tumblr media
Now for probably my favorite part of this bind - THE ART!
@thedaydreamingcynic has created some of the most beautiful art for the TGB and they were kind enough to let me include some of them in this bind.
The art was printed on transparent film and overlaid in the book with thin double-sided crafting tape.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Truly, all their art is stunning.
Tumblr media
This bind was done as part of @renegadeguild Renegade Loves Fic(Writers), as a way to show appreciation to all the fic writers out there that share your amazing stories with us, by sending out a copy.
Thank you @pierrotwrites-hc for creating such an amazing story <3

"idk if I really count as a writ—"
You do. Even if you've only posted one fic, even if you haven't written in years, even if you only share snippets to tumblr, even if you're still working on your first story, even if you never show your writing to anyone. It all counts. You're a writer. Here you dropped this 🖊️

for the @renegadeguild fanfiction writers appreciation day event I did a bind of hope has bloody knuckles by the amazing @independent-variables. This event is a way to say thank you to the amazing writers in our community.
Because of the length of the fic I also added in the three other works that are apart of in our bedroom after the war. The entire bind is 324 pages, and the typeset can be found here if you want to bind your own copy.
I used bookcloth for the case, and a foil quill for the gold detailing (which I am definitely improving with I think). At the start of each work is a title page with different images, my favorite being the tundra tea plant (specifically the species Rhododendron tomentosum) at the very start of hope has bloody knuckles. I made two copies, one which I sent to the author and one for myself, with the main difference being a slightly different pattern on the endpapers in my own copy.

August 21st is Fanfic Writer Appreciation Day and, as an author, I just want to say how much I appreciate every encouraging and kindly meant comment I get. People who leave detailed comment essays—you're the best. People who pick a line to quote back—you put such a smile on my face. People who share how a chapter made you feel—you're amazing. And people who leave a string of emojis—you rock 🤘🥰😍
I curl up like a happy dragon around each and every comment I get.
Thanks to all the kind and wonderful commenters out there helping to keep fandom a community rather than another marketplace 💛
