He didn't need Ren. But Ren clanked around Akechi's mind with every silent step he took; the armor Akechi wore, the custom weapon he carried, the items stowed about his person, these were all from Ren. Ren over-equipped every member of his gang and didn't stint when it came to his rival. When Akechi squeezed the trigger to snipe a shadow, he imagined squeezing Ren's neck. How dare Ren make this decision, how dare he condemn Akechi to this, how dare he want Akechi badly enough to take him.

So in the past I’ve totally been posting my fanfickery exploits only on my FFN account, but, consider this an informal interest poll: who’d be interested in me posting my fics here?
In particular I’m talking about a potential multi-chapter Voltron fic (it’s basically my take on Altean Lance AU) annnd I have chapter one ready to go probably.

oh hey, these are the blueprints I used for Old Familiar Haunts when it turned out layout of the house was gonna be pretty important. Made a few changes (around the parlor and the third floor mainly) for Plot Purposes, and swapped the dining room and the den because why the hell wouldn’t you want the dining room closer to the kitchen smh

Thanks to @b-atmans for the link to the blueprints provided when DC licensed out Batman to mayfair games, I’d forgotten about this one from back when i was first searching.
I consider this a non-canon source, but it’s a good starting place so I decided to make the effort of pasting together the bits and pieces so you can actually get your head around how these floor plans are supposed to look.
They’re definitely not the worst thing to work with if you need.

When Akechi got out of his appointment Ren was waiting, slouched in the doorway, the picture of insouciance. "I don't need an escort," Akechi said. "Maybe I do," Ren replied, not at all put off. He never was.

"Not chess today," Ren said. "I'm tired of losing." "Refusing to play won't improve your skills," Akechi pointed out, a little miffed. He'd been looking forward to their weekly match at the café. "We'll play if you can beat me at Power Intuition." "What?" Akechi said. "That ancient game literally no one plays anymore except you? That hardly seems fair." "Refusing to play won't improve your skills," Ren said and Akechi followed him and his cheeky grin up the stairs.

Game: 10 first lines challenge
Thanks for the tag @stevieraebarnes! Let's see if my first lines can hold a candle to your absolute bangers.
Rules: Share the first line of your last ten published works or as many as you are able to and see if there are any patterns!
1. Investigator: The crash of shattering glass, and a lot of it, startled the pleasant hum of socialite conversation into hiding.
2. For Good: Some days, Link wonders how they got so lucky.
3. Here, After: If asked, Sidon would not be able to say truly when it began.
4. The Cross Purposes Job: "Well, Mr. Jeffries," Sophie – or rather, Ludmila Popova, official representative of a wealthy overseas tech consortium that was definitely not a thinly veiled front for any shady Eastern European government, no matter how much they were funded like one, wink nudge – said with a charming smile.
5. Scarf: "Emma. What is that?" Georgia asked, stopping immediately inside the door to their apartment.
6. Fever Reducer: Bruce stared at the nearly empty shelf in the breakfast aisle, despairing.
7. Osteoclast: Dick knew, even before he was fully awake, that he wasn't going to enjoy what he discovered when he opened his eyes.
8. Per Aspera: Jason Todd was bleeding.
9. Looked After: Make sure he's looked after.
10. The Damned Prince's Bodyguard: The Damned Prince of Gotham surveyed his domain with a great deal of satisfaction and a very small amount of champagne.
Well, I don't know. Most of these introduce the main characters (but not Looked After or Investigator). Most of these ask a question or imply one (but not For Good or, again, Looked After.) And what was I thinking with The Cross Purposes Job. That's so many words... Maybe I should be looking at second lines XD
Hey @elwon, @dragonsorceress22, @bitterleafs, @burntheupholstery, @unicorncoalition you want to give it a whirl?
This invitation is also open to anyone who is reading it. Yes you! And tag me when you do it, I want to read your first lines (even you, stranger.)

Akechi woke slowly, inhaling deeply as awareness faded in. The scent of coffee and Ren's horrible bonfire-that-died-in-the-rain shampoo (purchased from some disreputable street vendor who only appeared every third Sunday or some nonsense) made him actually nuzzle his face into the pillow before he remembered where he was and sat bolt upright.

"I'll serve as your cameraman," Akechi said, approaching the crowd of friends outside Shujin. His eyes sought out Ren first, a habit Akechi had no inclination to break. Ren nodded a greeting at him, understated as he always was when he was with the group. His sharp smiles and biting wit were just for Akechi, and Akechi was looking forward to tasting both. They had made plans to celebrate that evening.

The night was clear and mild. Torches and lanterns still burned in Lookout Landing, but Link led them away into the fields and gentle hills to the west. Zelda gave him a shrewd look. "You think it'll help, walking it when I'm awake?" "Maybe. Kinda want to scout it." "Very sensible." "I could sometimes catch you from the Landing tower," Link said. "Catch— you mean the dragon." "Yes. Spent a lot of time riding around on your head." He could tell she didn't want to laugh at that, but couldn't help at least a small snort. "All right," she said. "Tell me what the Fairies said."

Link woke up when Zelda left their bed. He caught her before she made it out the front door, turned her to face him in the light of the moon through their windows. Her eyes were open but vacant, staring at him only because he happened to be in front of her. She tried to turn, to leave his grasp, and he let her, not wanting to hurt her by holding on too tightly. "Zelda, wake up," he said, as she pushed open the door. He followed her out, got in front of her, walked backward as she stepped lightly through the grass. He put his hands out, pressing them against her shoulders as she walked into him. She tried to walk forward, making no attempt to go around him, but he dug in his heels and didn't move. "Zelda," Link tried again. There was no glow of horns on her head this time, he was sure; just the moonlight in her hair. He let her step closer to him, opening his arms instead of holding them out stiffly. Then he closed them around her, holding tight as she pressed into him; she was clearly still trying to walk, but he pretended for an instant that she was nestling into his embrace.

As Link approached, Zelda turned to walk away from him. The action was measured, the movements trancelike and familiar. Another Zelda had done that once, in the castle; had walked just ahead of him, had turned away, had glided around corners and had used his desperation to lead him into danger. He wasn't pleased to be remembering that now, but hurried to catch up with her just as he had done then. Before he reached her though, her steps stuttered. She stopped, turned from her path to face the castle again. She took a halting step toward it, like someone who has thought of two different things they need to do and tries to go in both directions at once. He was steps away from her, hand outstretched and her name on his lips, when she let out a snarl. Her fists clenched and her hand shot out, palm toward the castle. The Triforce blazed to life on the back of her hand and a great wind swirled up around her, stopping Link in his tracks. He threw up an arm to shield his eyes from the dust and the sudden intense corona of gold. Squinting, he could still make out her form just steps away from him. He moved closer, keeping his eyes down, only wanting to be in arm's reach in case she needed him.

"It never fails to amaze me how you acquire so many things," Zelda said, surveying Link's gear, which was currently spread over every available surface of their small Hateno home. "Do you think Hestu would enchant a few chests for us?"
Link nodded. He had a whole pouch full of seeds he hadn't gotten around to exchanging before saving the world. Again. "We don't need to keep it all," he said from where he was perched on the stairs. Zelda stood in the middle of the room, turning slowly, an axis of order amidst the chaos.
"We should catalogue it," Zelda said. There were piles of sundelions, bits of armor, weapons and shields, gemstones, Hylian shrooms nestled up against shards of dragon horn. Zelda had asked him to empty his satchel and he'd done so with a grin. "Maybe not everything," she went on, plucking some common flint out from amongst a few diamonds. She frowned. "This is so much flint, Link."
"There's a Goron—" Link started, then saw in his mind how long the explanation would take, how many words. "I needed it," he said simply.

Zelda and Link moved the cots near the fire and listened to the drizzle outside while they waited for sleep. "I can feel you watching me," Zelda said eventually. "I meant it when I said you're to sleep tonight." Link just stared at her, unblinking, from his cot. "If you don't sleep, I won't," she said. "Then we might as well keep riding," Link said. "Wonderful, two exhausted Hylians on exhausted horses riding in the rain and the dark. Nothing could go wrong."

Link woke with the sun, even though there were no windows in the lab. He could feel the wild even here and breathed deeply as new light roused the land for another day. His and Zelda's legs were tangled, her arm thrown over his waist, her breath tickling his face. He eased himself apart from her gently, delicately, with all the stealth and precision earned from years of adventure and survival. "Where do you think you're going?" she murmured sleepily, catching at his hip to turn him back toward her. "Morning," he said, caught. "You wouldn't be trying to get an incredibly early start so that you can make it back here before nightfall, would you?" Caught twice over. She was way too alert for sunrise.
