I saw an ask on @potato-lord-but-not and now I've gone down a rabbit hole. There's currently a trend going on depicting Oscar, Arthur, and John as the Star, Moon, and Sun respectively. Now! What is Noel? He deserves to be in this. I personally interpreted this as tarot and not just the symbols themselves. Due to this, I'm making the pitch that Noel is Judgement! Here's a breakdown of each boi and their corresponding card: Oscar - The Star XVII - The Star is one that comes immediately after some of the roughest cards in the deck. It represents guiding yourself back to your true purpose and finding meaning in it. It's a pouring into both in inner wisdom and outer. I think this fits Oscar really well considering his turbulent spiritual past and finding a new mission through Arthur. Arthur - The Moon XVIII - OUGH! This one is fun! The Moon represents quite literally "being in the dark". It is the unknowable. It is the trusting of instincts and inner voices. There are things that cannot be known, and you are being pulled around by other sources and motives. Now if THAT doesn't sound like Arthur, I don't know what does. John - The Sun XIX - Now this one I struggled the most with relating but I think I've got it. The Sun itself represents overwhelming goodness and things looking up. Now, I think the meaning that it more applicable in this case is the concept of the "inner child". Especially in recent seasons, John is being able to grow into himself as a separate being than the King in Yellow. He's starting to enjoy things, find his likes and dislikes, and find meaning. Maybe there is not a present state of optimism, but John is beginning to display hope and positivity, seating him nicely with The Sun. Noel - Judgement XX - Judgement is the second to last card in the Major Arcana, representing a nearing of completion. It is taking both the past and the present in order to make the right choice and move forward. It is a renewal and a rebirth. Noel was left with mystery and pain from his past. Now, he is confronted with it with Arthur and things are beginning to come full circle. Additionally, Judgement has depictions of vulnerability in it which is present in both Noel's reveal of his alias and the acceptance of John being the King in Yellow. It should be noted that all of these cards are back-to-back in the deck representing their closeness in meaning and reliance on each other. Have fun with it and let me know your thoughts!

one of the things that really pisses me off about fandom (in general but it seems 10x worse in the ofmd fandom in specific) is some peoples determination to jump to the worst possible interpretation of any scene with a character they dont like in it. its suddenly not reasonable to read the silly jokey scene as it was indended, we have to assume X character is acting in bad faith because why would he not. if you substituted it with any other person you would not see these readings, but because its someone they dont like we can't possibly read it any other way. im all for reading into the text of the show and analysing and extrapolating from it, but some of the takes i have seen seem so out of left field from the actual show that it feels hard to assume the people writing them are doing it for any reason other than blind hatred of a character.

*sighs* Its come to my attention that a few people have misconstrued this post. Or at the very least, I didn't make myself clear.
I have many things to say about Cullen and his relationship to his faith but the crux of it is, I fully believe he becomes agnostic. Even before DAV, there was always a lingering doubt about the Chant of Light and how the Chantry uses the doctrine for their own needs. It is hard to separate that kind of gospel from such a system especially when hundreds of years later, both become intertwined. The Chantry dictates daily life and although we can argue that you can deny it and still worship the Maker, that distinction is harder to see with the DA franchise as a whole.
The Chantry is embedded in the governing systems, from judicial (Templars/Seekers) to diplomatic (Tevintar vs Southern Thedas) How can you practice earnestly when the Chantry has dictated how to worship. How can you trust the Chant of Light and the history around it when the Chantry has actively lied about history, Ameridan for example, or how much imperialism and invasion it has done to the elves?
And a Cullavellen? Cullen would have to discuss with Lavellan about how much damage the Chantry has caused to her people.
How can you ever interpret it as in good faith? How can you look your lover in the eye and still speak doctrine that dictated that she as she is should not exist?
And especially with the fact that the Chantry will probably do the same to Lavellan as they did with Ameridan and if you want to theorize even more, maybe even Andraste (yes I’m a proponent of Andraste being an elven mage). How can Cullen be at all okay at the idea that his lover will be reduced to a human all in the name of religion?
Cullen is fully aware of the lies that the Chantry has done and will continue to do. Multiple times, he has made it clear he wants to distance himself from the Chantry, extremely doubtful of it, and clearly critical it from the first one on one convo you have with him.
I also like to argue that Cullen is at his best when he is acting on his empathy and belief for the people and not from religion. Many of the wrongs he did was on the behalf of religion. His devotion to the Inquisition and in tandum the Inquisitor is best when it's because he believes the good that both have done for the people of Thedas, not an affirmation that the Maker exists. I also argue it's an insult to what Inquisitor has done by reducing it to them being the Herald, but that's a discussion for another time.
Do I think he doesn’t believe in the Maker? No, he definitely still does, but his relationship with that faith is more to do with believing that there is someone there. Don't I think he is strongly tied to his faith anymore? No I do not think so and to be honest, I think that's a good thing.
BTW, you want a fantastic analysis of Cullen, faith, and his relationship with Meredith, highly recommend reading my mut, @/the-shaper-ate's analysis [Here]
Cullen and Faith
You cannot tell me Cullen doesn't lose faith in religion especially in the events of DAI. Like yes, he complete disavow the Chantry after they refused to help Kirkwall at its time of need. How they probably exasperated the issue by vilifying the Kirkwall mages when Cullen has seen the truth, that these mages are being hunted down for sport even.
We have seen the way he talks to the Chancellor, how he was so eager to see the Inquisition act when the Chantry has failed. Thats the crux of why he left the Order, because the faith he had in the institution has broken. Which is why he still holds Templars to a high regard, because he sees the Chantry as the force that is turning the Order into something he didn't want to become ((althought we know the Order was already like that with or without the Chantry's help but thats a discussion for another day))
Everything he does is for the Inquisition, for the people. Even when it comes to the Inquisitor, the way he calls them the Herald or anything to do with their possible divinity, he almost sounds doubtful. Not because he doesn't believe in them, but he doesn't really believe in the religion that so tries to claim Inquisitor.
The scene where he is praying at the altar, Inquisitor can state that they have met a real god or something similar, challenging Cullen's faith. And the way Cullen talks back, its almost resigned, as if he knows Inquisitor is right, but needs at least this moment to pray and hope for something. Hope someone is listening
To find comfort in the words that seem to ring as lies

thinking about simeon again.. he is so much more complex and tragic and interesting than the sweet innocent uwu angel that some of the fandom portrays him as
simeon writing tsl to cope with the terrible things he’s seen about the future and can’t tell anyone
simeon obeying the celestial realm only out of fear and obligation, not because he has any real faith in what it stands for
simeon, who would do anything for the brothers, but who will never be considered a core member of the family because he was too afraid to rebel with them
simeon, who would sooner blame himself for the brothers’ rebellion than the system they were all trapped in (as if him simply talking to lucifer the day before the war would have eased the resentment that had been building up inside him for a long time before that), who would rather feel guilty than accept the alternative, that there was nothing he could have done to save them
simeon’s initial dislike of diavolo because he still holds onto the hope that things could change, which simeon dismisses as naive, and probably also because he’s a repackaged version of celestial realm leadership: never lies but doesn’t say the whole truth, friendly and arguably well-intentioned but more manipulative and controlling than he wants people to think
simeon purposefully being as indirect of a teacher as possible to luke because he can’t directly badmouth the celestial realm but wants luke to learn to think for himself instead of absorbing an ideology and never questioning it until he realizes too late how much harm it’s done to himself and others
simeon’s quiet defiance of the celestial realm, more of a resignation than a rebellion because he knows firsthand from watching the brothers the futility of trying to fight an entity like that
simeon accepting his punishment so casually since he’s seen it coming for a long time and has grown numb to the anxiety it gives him (and maybe, he thinks, it’s even what’s best for him, because part of him still wants to believe the celestial realm has good intentions)
human simeon trying to convince himself that he’s better off this way, that he’s free from the celestial realm’s control now, but still feeling deep down that this is actually more isolating and a worse punishment than becoming a demon because most of his loved ones live in the devildom, not the human world
human simeon hiding his depression because he doesn’t want to disappoint anyone, especially luke. simeon hiding his humanity because he’s not ready to see himself differently and doesn’t want other people to perceive him differently either, trying to fake it til he makes it by wearing different clothes but not feeling like himself in them
human simeon silently wishing mc would spend more time with him because this transition is scary—how does mc live like this? why did they seem to just abandon him after he confessed that he was a human? do they really accept him like this or are they just saying that?
i imagine human simeon having a private breakdown over something minor like not being able to open a jar of spaghetti sauce, because if he was already weak as an angel, he’s even more so now. his whole life he was told his sole purpose is to help others, and now he can’t even help himself
simeon knowing the whole time that he was going to lose his wings someday but still not being ready for it when it happened

hiyaa!! can i request the king’s reaction to gabriel attempting to kill mc when they aren’t there? he does succeed in slashing their arm a bit, where mc crouches in pain while trying to stop the bleeding.
(your blog is my fav btw i love all of your stuff! <3)
First, let me be a nerd as I explain one thing, because I know that not everyone has been in the fandom from the beginning, and this fact was mentioned in the very first event. Gabriel's scythe kills on touch. It is a gift from god that even kings avoid because just one scratch means death.
I don't know if you were aware of this, dear anon, when you asked for this headcanon (if you wanted a less drastic scenario, please let me know, I'll gladly write a second one!). Get ready for angst.
(And! Thank you for kind words! You have no idea how nice to hear that <;3)
Satan reacted as befitted his sin. Wrath. Rage. Breakdown. A red, thick fog flowed into the streets, only choking the subordinates, but sweeping away the angels. They couldn't stand the mourning that poured out of him, and they died in agony as long as he held your dying body in his arms. This was the only day in the history of Gehenna when the devils lost their will to fight and their king almost followed you into the arms of death, fighting more fiercely than ever before.
You fulfilled your promise. You died to protect Hell. And he failed to protect you. Once you were buried in a beautiful, simple grave, Satan had only one thing on his mind. He promised you that he would be faithful, only yours, for millennia. And he will keep that promise. No lovers, no one-night stands. He couldn't protect you, but he can protect the one you did all this for. Minhyeok and his later children won't even be aware of it, but they have just gained a pure white, red-eyed guardian.
Beelzebub felt you dying rather than saw you. By the time he appeared at your side, it was too late. There was almost no blood flowing, but you both knew that this wound would never heal. He kissed you and whispered soothingly as you died. It was his fault. His damn eternal wandering. If he had stayed, if he had watched you better... You deserved more than being buried among his clones. You should rest with those who, unlike him, did protect you. With your parents. He will show up with your body on Minhyeok's doorstep, hoping that he will get angry and yell at him, but he will only break down in tears over your body. This is not enough for Beelzebub, this is worse than the punishment he expected. He doesn't feel worthy of attending your funeral, but he'll watch from afar anyway.
Your tombstone will always look like new, even for hundreds of years. Intact stone, fresh flowers. There are things that even Beelzebub cannot forget.
Leviathan won't let you die. No, just no. No way. Do not agree. The moment you get hurt, he will catch you in his arms. The face is colder than usual, but the voice is more soothing than ever. "Do not be afraid. You are mine, and I am not letting you go.” He will kiss you one last time and push you into his coffin. Suspended somewhere between worlds, not dead, but not alive either, you will be pushed into eternal sleep, barely remembering who you are.
Leviathan won't stop there, he has to get you back. Only god can save you from death, and if that means this devil has to find him, he will. Anything to get you back to his side. He won't agree to lose another person he loves.
This time Mammon is the spoiled one
MAMMON
The shield you raised could withstand anything - or so you thought, until Gabriel cut through it like a knife through wax. The wound on your forearm was minor. Almost invisible. Still, you stared at it in silence, dazed. You knew what that meant.
A fist sprung in front of your nose a second too late. Shooed the seraph away a second too late. Your life could have been saved. A second too late.
"Master! Are you okay?" Mammon caught up with you and grabbed you in his arms. The grogginess slowly turned into dizziness. You collapsed onto his chest, losing strength.
"He... hurt me." You whispered into his broad chest. His muscles tensed as if ready to attack, but the huge arms lifted you ever so gently. You felt like you were in a huge cradle. The consciousness that slowly drained from your body was glad that it was spending its last moments in these arms.
The king held your limp body for a long time. He couldn't say goodbye to you, he couldn't understand that he had lost you. That you already had left this Hell, and there was nothing he could do about it.
A huge mausoleum was built in the meadow where you died. Gold and silk blinded the inhabitants from afar, outshining the sun itself. Despite the splendor greater than in the palace, everyone considered your tomb to be the poorest place in the world. Mammon visited it every day. He reminded himself that he needed to protect his people better. That he should have protected you better. For the first time in his life he felt real loss.
It was here that Tartaros' greatest treasure was lost.

Rewriting HotD: Plot breakdown of Fire and Blood the Dance of the Dragons
Part 1: 101 A.C. To 129 A.C.
The following is an in depth plot breakdown of F&B where character moments, plot beats, difference in sources, and missing details will all be analyzed and possible solutions proposed. The timeline will start in 101 A.C. with the first great council as where the seeds of the dance were thoroughly sowed and watered to the death of Jaehaera in 133 A.C.
This is the first part of my rewriting HotD series. The next part will talk more about character arcs and expanding on them using the enneagram as a jumping off point.
Page numbers will be cited from my copy of fire and blood the 2022 Trade Paperback Tie-in Edition.
Legend
Bold for the year
Italic for character moments
Blue for Orwyle’s account
Purple for Munkun’s A True Telling
Green for Septon Eustace’s The Reign of King Viserys
Red for Mushroom’s The Testimony of Mushroom
Orange for rumors that have no source
Pink for minor sources where their credibility and bias will be discussed when they come up
(Parenthesis) will be used when I deem it necessary to comment on the story either about the plot or how the fandom views the story.
[brackets] will be used for when I want to add real world historical context.
Where Gyldayn does not identify which source he is using or which sources disagree with eachother, it will be assumed that all sources agree with each other.
Biases of sources
While each source is biased towards one claimant over another, this is too simple of an understanding of these sources. Each source is pushing their own understanding of the world, either implicitly or not.
Orwyle wrote his account after being arrested by Cregan Stark and thrown into the black cells. He served as Grand Maester after the death of Mellos in 217, was thrown in the black cells when Rhaneyra took KL in 130, released by Ser Perkin later that year, he was then imprisoned again in 131 by Cregan where he wrote his accounts, he escaped and was re-imprisoned and continued writing his account, and he was later executed in 133. His bias is based in trying to save his own life by appealing to Cregan and trying to show he wasn’t a traitor. So while biased towards Rhaenyra, he’s biased towards making himself look as best as possible with motivations of saving his own life. He’s a primary source from his stationing as Grand Maester till Rhaenyra takes Kings landing and from when Rhaenyra flees Kings Landing and he’s re-imprisoned by Cregan. While Orwyle is imprisoned, he can only be a second hand source at best.
Munkun bases his work on the writings of Orwyle and takes up the position of Grand Maester in 131 when Cregan removed Orwyle. Munkun uses a lot of Orwyle’s sources but because Orwyle is currently writing his own account, I believe Munkun is using his Maester notes which could be less biased as Orwyle wasn’t writing them to help save his own life. Munkun also had access to Orwyle to talk about his recollection of the war. Munkun is a second hand source for anything happening before 131 and only a first hand source for Kingslanding after 131.
Eustace wrote his work after the war. He served as septon to the red keep from Viserys’ death until Aegon III’s reign and his dismissal by Unwin Peake. The Sept has been in conflict recently with the Targaryens leading to the dissolution of the faith militant and the implementation of Targaryens exceptionalism doctrine. Eustace can be seen as biased against the Targaryens in general because of this conflict. Eustace also shies away from salacious accounts, he doesn’t like Rhaenyra, and thinks Northmen are savage. He is a first hand source for much of what happens in the red keep.
Mushroom’s account was written down by an unknown author and covers Mushroom’s time as a fool for King Viserys and later Princess Rhaenyra. Mushroom was in Kings Landing as fool for King Viserys until 113 when he left with Rhaenyra for dragon stone, he returns in 126 with Rhaenyra to Kings Landing but leaves before Viserys’ death in 129, he returns in 130 when Rhaenyra takes Kings Landing, he remains in Kings Landing when Rhaenyra flees, he remains in Kingslanding until Manfryd Mooton travels to Braavos to escape the gloom of the red keep. Mushroom is first and foremost an entertainer and tells his story to entertain instead of inform. He is biased towards Rhaenyra as her fool but he is more biased towards a fun and salacious story. He’s a first hand source for Kingslanding until 113, a bit after 126, and after 130 till he leaves for Braavos. In the times in between he’s a firsthand source for Dragonstone and at best a second hand source for Kings landing.
101 A.C. The First Great Council
Otto arrives at Kings Landing with his wife and children, Alicent becomes the constant companion of King Jaehaerys, and Jaehaerys mistakes her for his daughter Seara pg. 351
---
Alicent: Alicent is described caring for the king like a personal care assistant would do in modern times.
(The word ‘precocious’ is used to describe 15 year old Alicent here and many have taken it to mean she was sexually developed and sleeping with Jaehaerys. I disagree as precocious means quickly developing but is not exclusive to sexual development. Because it’s quickly followed by descriptions of Alicent assisting Jaehaerys as a live in care person, I believe this is meant to show that Alicent is more mature mentally and is taking on the caretaker role earlier than she is expected to.)
103 A.C. The king is dead, long live the king
Jaehaerys dies while Alicent reads Barth’s ‘Unnatural History’, his body is burned and entered on Dragonstone, and women reportedly tore their garments in Dorne. [the act of tearing ones garments from their body was seen as a way to mourn in ancient times. Cleopatra reportedly rendered her garments when she learned that Anthony attempted suicide.] pg. 351-2
Viserys ascends the throne, Aemma has already suffered multiple miscarriages and lost a boy shortly after birth, Rhaenyra is 6. Pg. 352
The practice of placing eggs in cradles is picked back up around this time and many dragons are hatching in the dragon pit. Pg. 352
Criston first comes to notice at the melee at Maidenpool where he defeated Daemon, gave Rhaenyra the laurel and asked for her favor, and unhorsed the cargyll twins in the joust. pg 358-9
---
Viserys: Described as generous, amiable nature, and well loved by lords and smallfolks. Pg 352
Viserys & Aemma: host lots of feasts and tourneys and lavish gold, offices, and honors on their favorites. Pg 354
Otto: described as proud, brusque (curt), and haughty. The longer he served the more power he gained. Pg 354
Daemon: Ambitious, impetuous, moody, charming, hot-tempered, bored by Rhae Royce, the Vale, and governing. Pg 354
Rhaenyra: precocious, bright, bold, and beautiful. Pg 354
(Precocious is also used to describe Rhaenyra here and I believe it’s meant to draw a parallel between our two leads. Both are smarter than their years)
104 A.C. Rhaenyra Takes Flight
Rhaenyra: becomes a dragon rider at age 7. Syrax is a claimed dragon, not a cradle egg. She’s bold and dragon-riding at a very early age. Pg 354
105 A.C. Heir for a day
Viserys announces that Aemma is pregnant again. She dies giving birth to a son named Baelon who dies shortly after Pg 358-9
Criston Cole is appointed to the kingsguard at age 23 pg 358
Lyonel Strong is invited by Viserys to Kings landing and brings his 4 kids, his two daughters become Rhaenyra's hand maidens, Harwins joins the gold cloaks, and Larys joins the king's confessors. Pg 359
Observed but by who? Daemon is seen saying 'Heir for a day' while drunk in the street of Silk. The book gives us two sources for the rumon, the sex worker sitting on Daemon's lap or one of his drinking buddies. Why would his friend or someone he pays turn on him? Pg 359-60
Viserys names Rhaenyra heir and held a lavish ceremony for lords to swear fealty pg 360
Daemon leaves Kingslanding with Mysaria for Dragonstone and gets her pregnant and presents her with a dragon egg. pg 360
Viserys tells Daemon to send Mysaria away and return to Rhae Royce. Daemon does so, Mysaria returns to Lys and loses the child.
Viserys is suggested to remarry. Runciter suggests Laena Velaryon who is 12. Viserys decides to marry Alicent who is now 18. Pg 361
Rumors at Court suggest that Otto is moving above his station and planned for Alicent to marry Viserys. The rumors also question Alicent's virginity and wonder if she slept with him before Aemma died. Again, who is spreading these rumors? Unlike with Daemon, we don't even get a vague mention at who to judge them better. pg 361
Mushroom restates the rumors above along with Alicent doing 'more than just reading' for Jaehaerys. I again do not believe these rumors as they seem to come up only when Otto and Alicent are advancing politically. pg 361
Daemon and Corlys are both upset at the news of Viserys marrying Alicent. Pg 361
Laena is betrothed to the sea lord of Braavos' son. pg 375
---
Viserys: makes Rhaenyra his cupbearer at age 8 and is not seen without her after. He drinks a lot and Rhaenyra is there to serve him wine. Pg 354. Refuses to name Daemon heir but forgives any of his offense. Pg 355 gets mad enough at Daemon and commands him which he rarely does. pg 360 Viserys is also uncharacteristically firm when choosing to marry Alicent and not 'for reasons of state' (perhaps after Viserys lost his wife, son, and his brother left Kings Landing, he wanted someone who would take care of him like Alicent did Jaehaerys. I do not think they were sleeping together before Aemma's death.) Pg 361.
Daemon: Takes the lead of the gold cloaks and gives them better armor, made the city more orderly, and had an 'eye for an eye' style of punishment. Takes an interest in Mysaria. Wants to be named heir but isn't. Pg 355 Speaks of his brother in disdain after being commanded to leave dragonstone. Pg 360.
Rhaenyra: is smitten with Criston (she is 9 at this time so childhood crush) and has him named her personal protector.
Criston: (we don't have much written on his character, just how others react to him. The ladies are smitten and daemon hates him but Cole isn't described like how the other characters are with a list of traits.) pg 359
Lyonel: mistaken for a brute and dumb but just a large, silent, and very smart man. Pg 359
Laena: Fiery, bold, adventurous. Claimed Vhagar at 12 or younger which is very bold and brave. Pg 360-1. The Maester of High Tide says that Laena is more interested in dragon riding than in boys. Pg 361.
Unknown Years between 103-105 A.C.
Eustace, Mushroom, and Otto's letter to his brother tells us that Otto greatly disliked Daemon. Otto's own writings on his feelings about Daemon should be believed as its his own testimony backed up by other sources. But do take his claim that Daemon would be 'a second Maegor the Cruel' with a pinch of salt. Pg 358
---
Otto: hates Daemon and uses his influence as hand to remove him from each position Viserys gives him. Pg 358
Daemon & Rhaenyra: Rhaenyra is fond of Daemon and he brings her gifts when he crosses the narrow sea. Pg 355
Viserys: Doesn't try to claim a dragon (Viserys is the first Targaryen who's dragon died before him and had the opportunity to claim a dragon, but never did) Pg 355. Hates conflict and tries to make peace between Otto and Daemon (we'll see him using this tactic again soon) pg 358.
106 A.C. The Marriage and War begin
Viserys marries Alicent and Velaryons are absent. Pg 361-2
Daemon meets with Corlys and they plan to invade the stepstones and take them from the Triarchy. Pg 362.
Viserys supports Daemon by giving gold for the war. Pg 364
---
Alicent: calls Rhaenyra 'daughter' at her wedding. Filling that caregiver role?
Corlys: When slighted, he takes to war to assert his power.
Daemon: When pushed away from his brother, he seeks power through war.
Viserys: tries to fix tensions between him and Daemon by using his power as king to support him. Viserys is reported to say 'let daemon play at war, its keeps him out of trouble' pg 364
107 A.C. Aegon
Aegon is born. pg 365
108 A.C. Crab Ate
Daemon defeats Craghas Crabfeeder and cuts off his head with Darksister. Pg 363
Cregan Stark is born ph 416
109 A.C. King of the stepstones
Daemon and Corlys control all but 2 of the Stepstones islands. Pg 364
Helaena is born. pg 365
Otto is removed as Hand after pushing for Aegon to be made heir and Lyonel Strong takes his place Pg 365
---
Daemon: Declares himself king of the stepstones. Pg 364
Corlys: Places the stepstone crown on Daemon's head. Pg 634
110 A.C. War returns
The Triarchy and Dorne unite to continue fighting in the stepstones. Pg 364
Aemond is born half the size of Aegon but twice as fierce Pg 365
Unknown Years between 106 A.C. - 110 A.C.
Lords and knights seek Rhaenyra's favor but shes only interested in Criston Cole.
---
Alicent: Alicent says at court 'Ser criston protects the princess from her enemies but who protects the princess from ser criston?' Pg 365. no longer using 'daughter' and may be faining concern or actual concern for the princess's virtue around Criston.
Viserys: Keeps Rhaenyra as heir but doesn't argue why when questioned, just states as fact. Interesting level of stubbornness pg 365. Hates the conflict between his wife and daughter but doesn't address the root of the problem and just uses his ability as king to keep the balance through parties and gifts. Pg 365
111 A.C. The second quarrel
Visery's and Alicent's 5th wedding anniversary and Alicent and Rhaenyra wear their signature dresses to assert their sides.
The Blacks have a better tourney performance with Criston as Rhaenyra's champion. He unhorses Alicent's unknown champion, two cousins, and her younger brother Gwayne. Pg 366 (this perhaps shows that Rhaenyra is in a better position than Alicent?)
Daemon rides in the tourney but hasn't declared for a side. Pg 366
Daemon remains in Kingslanding for half a year.
Daemon returned to his old goldcloak friends in the street of silk and treated Alicent with respect but no love. He spends a lot of time with Rhaenyra, gives her gifts, and mocks the greens. pg 367
Grand Maester Runciter says Daemon and Viserys quarrled again and Daemon leaves for the step stones again. pg 367
Eustace says Daemon seduced Rhaenyra and took her virginity. The two were discovered by Ser Arryk and brought to Viserys. Rhaenyra begs to marry Daemon but Viserys denies it and confines Rhaenyra to her room and sends Daemon away. Pg 367-8
Mushroom says Rhaenyra wanted Criston so Daemon tutored her with kissing lessons, touching men for pleasure, but they did not have sex. Criston was horrified and spurned Rhaneyra. The story comes out in part thanks to mushroom. Daemon tells Viserys to let him marry Rhaenyra and Viserys tells Daemon to leave Pg 368-9.
Daemon leaves for the stepstones pg 369
---
Rhaenyra: the act of wearing 'the dramatic red and black dress' is Rhaenyra's first step into the feud with Alicent. She is 14. following Eustace and Mushroom's account, we get the idea that Rhaenyra is now exploring sexually and perhaps looking for love in either Daemon or Criston who are both denied to her pg 369
Daemon: gives his crown over to Viserys, perhaps showing that family is more important to Daemon than power. Pg 367 Eustace and Mushroom both agree that Daemon was explicitly active with Rhaenyra and its seems in both cases was doing to to grasp at power. pg 369
112 A.C. Rhaenyra's Suitors
Grand Maester Runciter dies and is replaced by Mellos. Pg 369
Lord Commander Ser Harrold Westerling dies and is replaced by Criston Cole. Pg 369
Rhaenyra visits the Trident and the sons of lord blackwood and bracken fight over her in a duel, a younger son of house Frey asks her to marry him, the Lannister twins quarrel over her. pg 369 (while not stated, its pretty clear that Rhaenyra is on tour looking for a husband)
---
Viserys: declines to wed Rhaenyra to Aegon stating 'The boy is Alicent's own blood... She wants him on the throne.' interesting separation of himself from his son and seeing Alicent wanting her son to be king as a bad thing. Again, Viserys declines to fix the root problem.
113 A.C. Betrothal of Fire and Sea
Rhaenyra is betrothed to Laenor and concerns about him being gay are dismissed. pg 370
Rhaenyra refuses to marry Laenor, also refers to Alicent's kids as half brothers. Only relents when Viserys threatens to disinherit her. pg 370.
Eustace says that Criston asks Rhaenyra to run away with him and Rhaenyra declines. Pg 370-1 (I believe Eustace more as its in line with Rhaenyra choosing power over personal happiness or freedom)
Mushroom says Rhaenyra asked Criston to take her virginity and Criston refuses 'even when Rhaneyra used the arts she had learned from Daemon' Pg 371 (so simple sexy pose or blowjob? probably just sexy pose). Rhaenyra then has sex with Harwin Strong and Mushroom claims to have found them together the next morning. pg 371
Rhaenyra leaves for Driftmark with the strong sisters, mushroom, and Harwin as her new champion.
Dalton Greyjoy is born (world of ice and fire)
---
Rhaenyra:Rhaenyra chooses power over her own happiness by agreeing to wed Laenor to keep her spot as heir. Eustace says that Rhaenyra begs for Viserys' forgiveness after he threatens to disinherit her while mushroom says she spits in his face. Pg 370 Eustace and Mushroom dispute how much she was willing to grovel for her father's forgiveness.
Viserys: uncharacteristically strict and threatens to disinherit Rhaenyra if she doesn't marry Laenor. Perhaps he wants everything to go the way he imagines it and does not want people upsetting his ideas for the future?
Criston: turns from being loyal to Rhaenyra to loathing her. Pg 371 (was this because Rhaenyra tried to seduce him or scorned him?)
114 A.C. Marriage of Fire and Sea
Rhaenyra and Laenor are married. She's 17 and he's 20. pg 372
Rhaenyra gives Harwin her favor and Laenor gives Jeoffrey Lonmouth his favor. Pg 372 (Showing that these two pairs are both lovers now). Criston takes Alicent's favor after being denied Rhaenyra's Pg 372 (was Criston still holding out hope for Rhaenyra?)
Criston wins the tourney, breaking Harwin's collar bone and putting Jeoffrey in a coma where he dies 6 days later. Pg 372
The animosity between Rhaenyra and Alicent was noted by envoys in letters to Pentos, Braavos, and Old Volantis Pg 372
Laenor returns to driftmark while Rhaenyra remains in Kingslanding. pg 372
Eustace says Rhaenyra and Laenor only shared a bed a dozen times (12) and Mushroom adds that Qarl Correy joined them as well and Rhaenyra would either watch them or seek out Harwin. pg 373
Rhaenyra's pregnancy is announced and Jacaerys is born a 'large strapping lad, with brown hair, brown eyes, and a pug nose' pg 374
Alicent gives birth to Daeron who is noted as traditional Targaryen coloring (pale hair and purple eyes) pg 374
Viserys orders Jace and Daeron share the same wet nurse. pg 374
Addam of Hull is born pg 443
---
Laenor: was only knighted before wedding Rhaenyra. Lover of Jeoffrey Lonmouth and according to mushroom sat by his bed till he died. pg 372
Criston: leaves Rhaenyra's party to join Alicent being either scorned or repulsed by Rhaenyra enough to fight in a blind fury.
Rhaenyra: doesn't leave with Laenor and stays in Kingslanding. Is clearly not interested in Laenor and prefers spending time with Harwin her new champion.
Viserys: Again does not address the main issue between the blacks and greens and instead tries to have Jace and Daeron be raised closer together.
115 A.C. Daemon and Laena travel diaries
Rhae Royce dies and runestone passes to her nephew pg 374
Daemon leaves the war in the stepstones to try and claim runestone but is denied and told to stay out of the Vale by Jeyne Arryn. pg 374
Daemon leaves for Driftmark where he duels and 'makes short work' (unknown is betrothal is broken or he dies) the sea lord of Braavos' son. He then marries Laena and they fly across the narrow sea first to Pentos, then across the Disputed Lands, then to Old Volantis, Rhoyne, Qohor, and Norvos. Pg 375-6
Rhaenyra gives birth to Lucerys in the later part of the year. Eustace says that Laenor and Harwin were by her side. Pg 376
Rhaenyra leaves for Dragonstone as she and Alicent can't stand each other pg 376
Laenor is said to visit "frequently" (frequently is in quotations implying that he is not actually visiting frequently?) pg 376
Alyn of Hull is born pg 443
---
Daemon: again tries to claim power by claiming Runestone but is denied. He then marries Laena either for love as the singers says but singers are known to romanticize things. More cynical men say because she gave him a way to keep from falling in the line of succession more. But Laena is not ahead of Daemon in the line of succession and marrying her won't stop him from being further down the line so I'm more inclined to believe he fancied her. (perhaps Laena and Daemon both fought in the stepstones or met more there?) pg 375
Laena: we can discern that Laena is very adventurous and loved to travel.
Viserys: Is happy to meet Luke and doesn't seem worried about him not looking Targaryen.
Alicent: According to Mushroom told Laenor to keep trying to get one that looks like him which could show that Alicent is aware that Luke and Jace are not Laenor's and is slyly letting him know she knows.
Rhaenyra: She now decides to leave kingslanding for dragonstone when she had previously chosen to stay in kingslanding.
116 A.C. The Second Quarrel ends
Baela and Rhaena are born and called "Daemon's first trueborn children" Pg 376 (Implying he has bastard children?)
Viserys and Daemon reconcile over Daemon now being a father. Pg 376-7
---
Daemon: seeks his brother's forgiveness again.
Viserys: forgives his brother again believing fatherhood changed him.
117 A.C. Bastardy Rumors Spread
Jeoffrey is born pg 377
Rumors spread in the Greens that Harwin is the father of Rhaenyra's sons. These rumors would support Alicent in getting Rhaenyra out of being heir but we know that Viserys does not care. Mushroom says Harwin is the father and Mellos hints at Harwin being the father. Eustace acknowledges the rumors but dismisses them. (Interestingly Eustace claims Rhaenyra slept with Daemon but does not believe her children were fathered by Harwin). Pg 377
The Velaryon boys are given dragon eggs by royal decree. (The Targaryen boys are not given dragon eggs in contrast) pg 377
Rhaenyra gains weight after childbirth. Mushroom says she resented Alicent for staying slim. Pg 377
Eustace says Viserys placed Jace on his knee and said the iron throne would be his one day. Pg 377
The Targaryen boys and Velaryon boys become rivals but still train and study together Pg. 377-8
Rhaenyra is close with Laena and Daemon Pg 378
---
Rhaenyra: is fond and more than fond of Laena perhaps implying a romantic interest or just a very close friendship? Pg 378
Viserys: has eggs placed with the Velaryon boys but not his own kids with Alicent. Perhaps wanting to dispel rumors as quickly as possible and assert their legitimacy.
118 A.C. The Betrothals
Viserys agrees for Rhaenyra to have Jace (4) and Luke (3) betrothed to Baela and Rhaena (2). pg 378
119 A.C. Laena Conceives
Laena gets pregnant again and Rhaenyra joins her on dirftmark. Pg 378
120 A.C. The Red Spring
Laena dies of childbed fever (basically infection from unsanitary conditions) and gives birth to a boy dragon baby who quickly dies Pg 378
Daemon flies to Dragonstone to get Rhaenyra's more skilled Maester Geradrys but he arrives too late pg 378
Mushroom says Rhaenyra and Daemon sat vigil over Laena's body and she comforted him while he grieved pg 378
Merchants at a fair in Spicetown say Laenor and Qarl quarreled and Qarl stabbed Laenor to death before fleeing. A large crowd of people are more likely to have the true story as it's harder to sway them all. Eustace also agrees with the merchants and says Qarl was motivated by jealousy of Laenor leaving him. Mushroom says Daemon payed Qarl to kill Laenor to make room for himself as Rhaenyra's husband. pg 379
Corlys offers a reward for Qarl's head but he's never caught. pg 379
Aegon and Helaena are both dragon riders of Sunfrye and Dreamfyre respectively pg 380
Daeron has Tessarion but has not ridden her yet. Pg 380
Aemond claims Vhagar but is ambushed and fights the velaryon boys. Luke slashes out Aemond's right eye (weirdly changed to his left in the show) pg 380-1
Viserys tries to make each side apologize to one another. Alicent demands Luke's eye and Rhaenyra says Aemond should be questioned "sharply" (tortured). pg 381
Aemond claims Aegon told him the Velaryon boys are strong and Aegon says everyone can tell. pg 382
Lyonel and Harwin die in Harrenhal by fire. Pg 383
Rumors say the fire was either a mischance or black Harren's curse. Mushroom says Corlys set the fire to get revenge for Laenor being cucked (why now after three kids?). Eustace says Daemon did it to remove his love rival. Another rumor was Larys did it to get Harrenhal as his seat. Mellows says Viserys ordered Harwin's death to hide Rhaenyra's affair with him and that Lyonel's death was unforeseen because he wasn't supposed to accompany his son back home. Pg 383
Viserys sends for Otto to replace Lyonel as hand. Pg 383
Rhaenyra remarries to Daemon with both of their previous spouses having not been dead for half a year. pg 383 Eustace says they married in secret knowing Viserys would not allow it. Mushroom says Rhaenyra was again pregnant and did not want a clear bastard. Pg 384
Rhaenyra gives birth to Aegon at the end of the year and according to Mushroom, named him Aegon to slight Alicent. pg 384-5
---
Laena: wants to ride Vhagar one last time before she dies showing her love and connection to her dragon.
Daemon: must have loved Laena a lot to try so desperately to save her life.
Rhaenyra: comforts Daemon (non-sexually) after Laena dies. But remarries to Daemon quite quickly, perhaps showing not desire for Daemon but need for a powerful ally?
Viserys: makes fun of Aemond by saying he can claim an egg or hatchling if he's bold enough. This also shows that Aemond was not given a cradle egg. pg 380. Viserys is more concerned about rumors of Rhaenyra's kids' bastardy than Aemond losing an eye, one being treated with threats of tongues being removed while the other is forced to kiss and make up. Viserys also decides to not make Rhaenyra Hand to avoid more conflict between her and Alicent, again unwilling to address tension and rather ignore it till he can't. Pg 383
122 A.C. Viserys and Sibling Marriage
Rhaeanyra gives birth to Viserys and his dragon egg does not hatch. Pg 384
Viserys weds Aegon (15) to Helaena (13). Pg 384
---
Viserys: interestingly weds Aegon and Helaena together, most likely to keep Alicent from seeking marriage alliances.
Aegon: Lazy and somewhat sulky. Drinks and fondles serving girls.
Helaena: Happy and described as making a fine mother (so caring and attentive?)
123 A.C. Twins Born
Jaehaerys and Jaehaera are born. Both get and hatch cradle eggs. Jaehaerys is polydactly and Jaehaera is described as slow to grow. 385
Mushroom claims Aegon fathered a bastard boy on a maiden from the street of silk and a girl by one of his mother's maidservents. Pg 386 (How would he know this being on Dragonstone?)
126 A.C. Take his head
Daeron is sent to oldtown to be a cupbearer and squire for Lord Hightower. Pg 386
Corlys falls ill with fever and the issue of succession is raised. Pg 386
Corlys's nephew Vaemond claims he should be heir as Rhaenyra's kids are bastards. Rhaenyra has Daemon behead Vaemond and feeds his head to her dragon. Pg 386 Vaemond's younger cousins, his wife, and his sons flee to Kingslanding to plead their case and their tongues are removed. Pg 386
Viserys cuts his hand open on the throne had has two fingers removed. pg 387
Cregan overthrows his Uncle as regent and imprisons him and his cousins. Pg 416
---
Alicent: While it is not stated, I believe Alicent sent Daeron away for his own safety after Vaemond was killed.
Rhaenyra: Escalating what she's willing to do to keep power, no longer is she bending to Viserys' wishes like she did as a teen or sneaking behind his back, this is out-in-the-open murder.
Viserys: Again esculating his covering for Rhaenyra allowing her to order the death of another highborn.
127 A.C. The Feast for the lost fingers
Maelor is born and given a cradle egg Pg 386
Viserys holds a feast for his recovery and Rhaenyra and Alicent attend with all their children. The court chronicles record that the two sides looked to mend things. Mushroom says that once Viserys left, fighting broke out between the kids. Pg 387
Viserys stops sitting the iron throne and Mushroom claims to be entertaining the king. Pg 387
Maester Mellos dies and is replaced by Orwyle by the Citadel. Pg 388
Daenaera Velaryon is born.
---
The Velaryon and Targaryen Boys: All three (assuming Daeron and Jeoffrey are there as well despite not being mentioned) boys go out of their way to provoke eachother.
128 A.C.
Cregan’s wife Arra Norrey dies in child birth to his son and heir pg 416
Dalton avenges his uncle’s death in the Stepstones and claims the sea stone chair (world of ice and fire)
129 A.C. 3rd day of the 3rd moon
Helaena brings her children to Viserys' room and he tells them a story about Jaehaerys. Viserys dies in his sleep. Pg 390
---
Viserys: his last act is to tell a story of a Targaryen king to his grandchildren.
Thanks for reading the first half of the timeline breakdown for rewriting HotD!

I recently read this absolutely amazing Holy Ghosts fic and it sent me down a rabbit hole of thoughts.
Would a vampire Catholic priest be able to get by by drinking the wine after transubstantiation?
What that process is, is a point during Mass in which Catholics believe that the bread and wine on the altar is actually transformed into the body and blood of Christ. So, while the taste and texture is that of wine, the substance itself has changed. If this is the case, then the priest would truly believe that what they’re taking and distributing at communion is the actual blood of Christ and could potentially serve as an alternative.
So, now I’m imagining the height of the mass where Oscar has to lift the chalice and host off the altar, and he is shaky. He is desperately taking deep breaths to try to control himself, willing the sharp teeth edging into the inside of his lip to return where their rightful place. The wine burns going down. Sacred. Holy. As if attempting to burn the disease which plagues him from the inside out. It isn’t that sustainable. It’s probably slowly killing him but it’s better than the alternative.

https://www.tumblr.com/olderthannetfic/765308058688798720/saw-an-argument-on-an-anonymous-fandom-blog-where?source=share
Assuming Anon is just dumb, here's breakdown in good faith. It's not about exploitation. It's about
"This Spiderman is bad because he is Black" is not racist towards Spiderman, it's racist towards the millions of real Black people who are hurt when people claim that Blackness is bad.
A story that shows Black Spiderman experiencing racism is a story *about* racism, the fictional character is not being exploited and no real people are experiencing racism. It's a story. This is not the same as a person being racist towards the concept of Blackness in fiction.
It shouldn't be confusing to sort out. Fiction is just fiction, it can portray whatever it wants and that's not bad. People can say things about fiction that are bad because of what they say about real people.
****
Race play is just a kink, it isn't real racism even if they call each other slurs. Just like BDSM is just a kink, it isn't real assault even if they hit each other. Reading a fic tagged race play and seeing that it depicts characters being using racist language towards one another and assuming that the fic itself or the author is racist is like reading a fic tagged BDSM and seeing that it has characters whipping each other and thinking that means the fic supports domestic violence and that the author believes it is right to beat people.
In other words, it's a stupid assumption.
****
Also, some fiction will depict racism (not just characters engaging in race play) for kink reasons or just to tell an exciting story, the same way some fiction will depict things like murder, rape, and theft in order to tell an exciting or sexy story. People who get off to kinky depictions of racism are no more racist than people who get a fun thrill form watching Hannibal are murderers.
****
Fiction is all pretend. Depicting imaginary racism or violence is not the same thing as being racist or violent. The difference between right and wrong is that what hurts real people is wrong, and play pretend thing that makes other people uncomfortable not wrong. Just, like, tag it so people who don't like it can avoid it. Like the race play authors did with the fic that you now know depicts a kink that makes you uncomfortable.

Okay so chat. Can we all admit that Hesitations by Fangclub is so Wild Life Mumbo coded?Cause it literally is and I had a divine vision in the car tonight about it. Hi, welcome to my Ted Talk. My screaming into the void and breakdown of the song and lyrics is below the cut. Also before I start my yapping I would highly recommend listening to the song. It’s such a banger istg. Also i think it’s obvious but this is all C not CC. Anyways my yapping starts now >:)
okay so. I’m gonna assume you’ve heard the song already? Now I really want to break the song down lyric by lyric and maybe I will. Idk yet. But starting with Verse 1: Congratulations,,You really hit your mark,,Self-medicating,,To reignite your spark. Honestly I really interpret the first 2 lines as Mumbo congratulating Jimmy on not being out first. Cause really, Jimmy did hit his mark of not being the first out, and generally from what I’ve seen in the fandom, the Canary curse may be broken. Now the second 2 lines may be a stretch but, I kinda read that as a continuation of Mumbo still talking about Jimmy, with the self-medicating being Jimmy’s praying to the watchers to help with the curse. I mean it checks out, he’s been out first in most of the seasons and to deal with this canary curse of always dying first is to pick up a faith in the Watchers. That’s where the line To reignite your spark comes in. He started praying to the watchers to reignite his spark. To help him survive. So far this is all looking very nice and it all has symbolism and it all connects. So yippee!!
Moving onto the chorus that follows: My hesitations,,Will never let me go,,Burn our confessions,,My hesitations. Okay so when these lines clicked that’s kinda when i started going hmm chat I’m seeing some connections here. Specifically with the line My hesitations,,Will never let me go. Now correct me if I’m wrong but was Mumbo not killed by his hesitation to kill Jimmy? Think about it. If he had gone and sent that tnt minecart to kill Jimmy, he wouldn’t have been in such a rush to try and get Gem instead, right? His hesitations will now never let him go. His hesitations killed him. Those hesitations perma killed him first and the Watchers will never let him go now, taking him as the new canary. Honestly this is just my opinion, but I love the idea of Mumbo being the new canary. Like if Jimmy's curse really is broken, I would love it if Mumbo became the new canary. I just think that would be so silly but moving on. ,,Burn our confessions,,My hesitations. Honestly chat, this one isn’t really lining up for me so if anyone has any ideas please let me know. And agin the hesitations that ultimately led to his death.
Verse 2 is also where i go a bit feral with the lines: The isolation,,The only life you know,,Your method acting,,Is gonna kill us both. Okay so a few things before I go into the lyric breakdown. The main reason I highlight the lyrics as different colors is so A I’m able to break them down easier, and B is so that if I feel like one section from a verse feels different I can isolate it. This is a case of reason A. So back to analyzing lyrics, I'm reading it as this verse being about Grian. Think with me for a moment. The isolation + the only life you know roughly equals the experience of being a watcher. From most fanon interpretations, being a Watcher who also used to be a player is very lonely and isolating and with Grian seeming to lean more into the watcher/admin role this season, it works perfectly. He’s reflecting on what being a watcher and an admin is like, and in the next bit of lyrics are detailing the consequences of it. Once again I'm asking you to hear me out. Your method acting,,Is gonna kill us both. And it did kill them both. Well not both but it killed Mumbo multiple times. Maybe it didn’t kill him permanently but the multiple times where Mumbo came running to Grian when he was on fire, starving, and Grian was unaware of his suffering. Remember that clip that had floated around from Grian’s episode 2 where he was tabbed out doing admin things as Mumbo sat there starving to death and actively informing Grian on it? It might not have killed Grian then but it definitely killed Mumbo. I feel like I need to clear up the method acting bit now. So we know how Grian tries to hid his Watcher-y-ness and in a way you could say he’s method acting to appear like a normal player. Eh eh, you see what im sayin!! Anyways, Grian’s complete focus on the admin role and to appear as a normal player ultimately left him so locked in that he didn’t hear his friend's pleas for food and help until it was too late.
The chorus continues here and its the same as before so skipping to the Bridge, (guys i'm gonna be real idk what a bridge is in a song, im just looking at what the lyric website says and it says that this bit is the bridge so.) and the bridge is just: I tried to figure it out, but it figured out me,,,I tried to figure it out, but it figured out me. So there’s just one line here repeated so i guess that makes my life easier lol. Anyways this bit, to me, read as Mumbo’s obsession (not really but words are failing me rn) at the beginning of each session to find out what the wild card was. He tried to figure it out but he never really succeeded, did he? The wild cards always came before he was really ready and he eventually found out what the gimmick for that session was.
He refrains the last bit and boy is it easy: My hesitations,,My hesitations,,My hesitations. His hesitations ended up killing him in the end. His hesitation to fulfill the canary curse killed him. And that’s about it for my wonderful song and lyric breakdown. There was another chorus after this but it was the same as the other ones so i'm not gonna re type that whole bit. Seriously tho this song makes me go so crazy… i hope i was able to make you all a bit crazy too :333

looked thru your blog to try n remember what I said in that ask and came across someone saying PARKER AS THE DEATH CARD ,!?!!??!!?! FUCK that’s too good I’m gonna have to make THREE MORE NOW
Tumblr media
I KNEW THAT ASK IS WHAT YOU WERE REFERRING TO!! Gosh that was so long ago but I was holding out hope nonetheless (especially for Noel and Dennis *coughs*). OH HOOO BOY! I'm raring to go now! Also, YES! Parker as Death is just PERFECT! I'm totally not 100% biased at all with Death being one of my favorite cards. It really is that "transitionary period" that can be good, bad, neither, or both that fits well with Parker. I mean, his death is what kicked off everything we have going on with Arthur. There are both good and bad aspects that Arthur has gotten out of it. But the most important thing is that that moment was a change for Arthur. His life was never ever going to be the same from that point forward. Parker in general throughout his time in Arthur's life represents change too. He's the one that got Arthur back on his feet. Got him a job. Got him to somewhat like himself again. He too helped Arthur through a change out of "bedrock" to a place of stability. And then that stability was ripped out from underneath him, and he had to adjust again. Augh! Can't you tell I missed this? And now I get more! Literally chompin at the bit rn!

WOUGH- Alright, fellas. Alright, let's wipe away the tears and push through! While I usually leave the music up to Potato Lord, might I recommend "Remember Me" by Thomas Bergersen for this particular read. To be honest, I've flipped back and forth between whether or not to see Faroe as The Fool or The World but, yes. The World fits her the best. The World is a continuous cycle of completion and new beginnings. I find it evident to revisit something said in Noel's card analysis:
Tumblr media
Faroe is a constant presence in the narrative of Malevolent, representing and bordering the cycles and arcs within it. This is represented by the continuous wreath around Faroe as well as the borders of Faroe's song on the outside of it. While this wreath is usually laurels, they are Forget-Me-Nots in this case. This especially hurts for many reasons. Firstly, we know that Arthur carries that guilt over Faroe with him. He won't forget her. She is his guiding light (quite literally as we learn from Malam) and continues to motivate Arthur to keep going. This is evident in episodes like Coda, where memories of Faroe are the things that are keeping Arthur fighting for his life. Secondly, if you weren't aware, the patrons were given three options during the chapters of Part 40 I for Arthur to have written down to "forget" before heading into the Order. These being 1.) forgetting meeting John, 2.) forgetting meeting Oscar, or 3.) forgetting about the duck pond. We are well aware of what was chosen. Arthur won't forget her. And I believe that Oscar would have been willing to take on that sacrifice if he knew and was given the choice himself. Notice the teeny, teeny, little star on Faroe's cardigan. Near her heart chakra. Both Faroe and Oscar are incredibly empathetic, compassionate, and forgiving which are all aligned with this chakra in particular. It was discussed previously, about the parallels between everyone in the cards looking in particular directions. John and Arthur are looking upward. Noel and Oscar are looking downward into their respective pools. Kayne sees through it all and directly at us (he is aware of us listening, you know <3. Just listen to Part 20 again <33. All of that "determinist" stuff he tells Arthur? Yeah. Referring to those silly little votes each chapter). And Faroe is looking away. For The World, this represents looking into the past while your body is moving forward to the future. Faroe, herself, is suspended in both worlds. While her physical being and presence is something of the past, she still remains a key figure in the present. She looks back to Arthur shining brightly with the echoes of John behind him. Something akin to tears rain from the Moon, disturbing the still waters and memories of Faroe. It's not a bad thing. No. Remember that Arthur is honoring her memory by knowing that his life is still worth living. He lives for her still and she is with him always. To me, this focuses much on the transition from Season Four to Season Five. Season Four is where Arthur shined the most, leaving John mostly in the dark. This is in the past now as the Moon hangs high within the wreath. Now we step into a new beginning where it is John's time to learn and time to grow. This is certainly shown in his acceptance of him being something entirely his own during the encounter with the Hag. Outside of the wreath of Forget Me Nots, you see the Sun shining brightly and hanging above.
Tumblr media
Well, doesn't that look familiar... <3. The Sun represents hope and joy. The prospect of what they have to do for Kayne in Season Five is difficult and conflicting in of itself. Miles to go... However, there can be the tiniest bit of hope that maybe. Just maybe. The next time their cycle completes, three pairs of feet step through instead. That finally, like Faroe's favorite story, all three of them are able to cross that bridge into the next chapter.

XXI The World
I love you so (I love you, too)
pssstt sheet music reference from @kkachis btw <3

Why do I like Alastor?
Listen. When your therapist starts psychoanalyzing you and it sounds like an Alastor analysis, you gotta do some soul searching. So, I’m going to list off all of our similarities. This is going to be more unorganized than usual.
1. We like being in control:
We’re both puppeteers! We like having people obey us, not the other way around. We’re very anti-submission (my therapist’s word) and don’t like being told what to do. We don’t like having people more powerful than us in the room or even in the area, because something more powerful than us is something that can override our will—and, by extension, our comfort zone and boundaries.
When it comes to romantic relationships, the healthiest solution is to find someone who’s into being dominated. (Cough cough, Vox. I told you guys I write my own kinks.)
2. We have trouble feeling sympathy and empathy:
It’s something I had to practice, but I get the feeling Alastor never bothered. I’m not very good at it, either. Then again, I’m not killing people.
3. We have violent urges:
Yeah, that is very much a thing for me. The difference is that Alastor carries them out without remorse. I usually just ignore those thoughts, or try to think of something else.
4. We mostly stick to one era of music:
Alastor has the Jazz Age, I have the 2010s. Pretty much nothing after 2020 appeals to me, outside of fan songs.
5. We don’t have breakdowns often, but when we do, it’s wild:
Alastor monologued during his. I hyperventilate during mine and feel like I’m not inside my body. Like I said, it’s wild.
6. We pull our hair:
If my hands aren’t occupied, I’ll end up with a hairball in them. But the way Alastor was tugging? With those claws? Yeesh.
7. People see our rage as impotent:
Yes, this is about the people that think Alastor’s frustration with Lucifer was “pathetic”. Yes, that did hit a powerful nerve in me. If you yell right in my ear the moment you open the door, even if I don’t already know you’re the reason there are yearly mass murders, I will immediately hate you. And contrary to a lot of bad-faith fanfiction, buttering up our ego or something is not the solution. The best way to calm us down is to be taken seriously. With Alastor, of course, the ego thing will certainly help, but it’s not the root.
8. We feel impotent when we’re enraged:
This ties in with the last one. Alastor literally grows several hundred times in size when he’s truly angry, that’s pretty obviously a self-comforting action. If I’m bigger than them, they can’t hurt me. If I’m bigger than them, nothing at all can hurt me. That kind of thing.
9. We don’t like constant change:
Alastor’s outfit (which isn’t era-accurate, according to someone much more knowledgeable than I am) is evidence that he isn’t adverse to change as a whole, but someone like Vox is a constant source of anxiety for us. It’s very hard to keep up with something that’s always changing, and we can’t get our feet on the ground and a moment to breathe. I can change which jacket I wear, but never wearing the same jacket twice? Kill me now.
10. We put on a facade around people we want to be in the good graces of:
Alastor with the hotel residents, and me with pretty much everyone. This ‘facade’ I’m talking about isn’t necessarily a fake personality, it’s a facet of our real personalities that will best appeal to the people we’re talking to. That’s another thing my therapist brought up: I’m always putting on a mask, and there’s so many that no one knows who I really am. Hell, even I don’t know at this point. Alastor’s been putting on masks for over a century. I don’t think he knows anymore, either.
I think he thinks he knows who he is, but if someone poked a hole in that image of himself as the Radio Demon, he’d shatter as easily as glass. Because he’s not 100% evil, as much as he wants to be.
11. People think we’re a danger to others, even when we’re not:
*gestures to Vaggie* *gestures to the entire fucking fandom* *gestures to my mother* *gestures to unnamed family members that didn’t even have the guts to say it to my face* It sucks. Like, thank you for taking me seriously for once??? But also no.
12. We have dramatic body language to make up for stunted facial expressions:
Alastor has his eternal smile, and I have my eternal frown. The facial expressions thing was actually brought up by a previous therapist. I’ve had to throw my arms out like a theatre kid to make sure a family member knew I wasn’t being sarcastic…I’m not a theatre kid.
13. We switch between being extreme extroverts and extreme introverts:
I’ve said before that I’m low functioning in almost everything except social interaction. I can keep up with the fastest mouths and the longest-winded, but I’ll disappear for a week and only emerge for water. Meanwhile, Alastor keeps up his overly-cheerful facade up for the whole series and disappears for two episodes. And for seven years before that.
14. When people talk shit to us, we fly off the handle at the speed of light:
Husk in the hallway scene. Lucifer, period. Vox at the end of episode two. Everyone on Tumblr and Wattpad that’s ever picked a fight with me. That one anon in particular. The list goes on.
15. We have very stunted emotions, except for anger:
I don’t know why anger is an exception, either. But we don’t see any strong emotions from Alastor besides rage (and maybe amusement), so it’s clearly a thing for him too.
16. We enjoy the smell of death:
Death smells pretty nice, actually. There’s nothing quite like it. Alastor gets it. If anyone wants the full story of Larry the Rotting Deer Carcass, let me know. I’d love to tell it.
And that’s all I can think of right now. This definitely veered into a bit of character analysis for Alastor, but then again, I was analyzing myself, so that just proves my point.

I apologize but a part two my last dratchrod ask where you said rodimus has breakdowns.
Maybe he can be himself around another mech *cough cough* megatron *cough cough* or maybe dratchet get a feeling and catch him breaking down or notice something?
Or maybe its both and they see how easy it is for roddy and *cough* megs *cough cough* to work with each others terrible or hard parts and maybe they want that? Or Maybe its too late & *cough* gray mech *cough* won’t give roddy up because he knew the moment the change happened
I am a slut for when others write Megarod, but I can't personally think of a way to expand upon what you have already written. It summarizes the situation quite well.
Either Drift and Ratchet gets their slag together (which they did in another ask I answered), or someone else swoops in and takes Rodimus off their servos.
The thing is, Rodimus is terribly lovable. Even when you don't want to love him (and I personally found him insufferable for most of the MTMTE/Lost Light series; I prefer the version of him I see in fandom and didn't like his canon characterization until the last few issues), you eventually realize that you're willing to die for him because he is equally willing, if not more so, to die for you.
So if Rodimus can be himself with Megatron where he can't be himself with Drift and Ratchet... If he can look at Megatron and go, "I don't have to be perfect because he's already so fragged up, I can't mess him up even more," then that's good. That's great.
Losing Rodimus would hurt Drift and Ratchet and they'll be angry at him and themselves for a long time, but they would never want to force Rodimus to stay with them if he isn't happy.
If he's happier with the mech he feels is just as imperfect as himself (arguably worse, we all know that), if he's more comfortable being mouthy and selfish and lazy with a bot he knows can handle it and not walk away, than Ratchet and Drift will let him go and they'll work toward rebuilding a friendship when the spark wound isn't so fresh.
It helps that Megatron is medically trained and can keep up with Rodimus's self-injurious shenanigans and self-sacrificing plots.
EDIT:
Not mutch to do with the ask, but I was still thinking about why Rodimus would be more comfortable with Megatron than Drift and Ratchet and the short answer is because Rodimus can't really hurt Megatron.
Yeah, he can get Megatron really, boiling mad and annoyed, but there's not much he can say or do to make Megatron lose faith in him or abandon him. Meanwhile, he can absolutely say the wrong thing and lose Ratchet and Drift so fast, or create wounds so deep just by not thinking before he opens his big mouth.
If Drift says, "This is a bad idea, Roddy," Rodimus can't snap back with, "Oh, like taking boosters was so smart?"
Boom. End of relationship right there. Rodimus has joked about rehabilitating Drift in the past and revoking his rights and no one, I repeat, no one found him funny. Bringing up Drift's history as a drug addict or as an assassin or as a decepticon any time Drift tries to talk some sense to him? Not cool. Drift gets upset, sometimes angry, but it's Ratchet who absolutely will not stand for it.
For Rodimus, Drift's past is just part of Drift, part of what makes him who he is, part of why the way he is and the story to how they met. It's nothing bad, it just is. Which is probably why he doesn't treat Drift's past with the delicacy he should.
Meanwhile, there's Megatron.
Megatron can say, "That's a stupid plan," and Rodimus can snap back, "Oh, like starting a war is a bad idea? Or is it like how forming the DJD was a bad idea? Or is it a bad idea like how -" and the list can go on and on down the entire list of Megatron's crimes, but his co-captain is just waiting him out with the most deadpan expression possible.
"It's because of my mistakes that I can say this is a stupid plan."
"Says the failed warlord," Rodimus mutters sourly because he's losing this one-sided argument and he hates that.
But Megatron isn't even hurt. He's smug because the best Rodimus can do is try to distract him by hurting his feelings so he can go risk his life on some suicidal mission. Megatron has dealt with soldiers and officers speaking sweet things to his face and trying to stab him in the back for millions of years. He's dealt with the Senate and the Functionist universe and war and so many endless cycles of victim impact statements - Rodimus's temper tantrums are nothing to him.
He knows what he is. He knows what he's done. He wants to do better, be better, even atone, but he isn't going to get upset by Rodimus's big mouth (the feelings and thoughts Rodimus's mouth inspire in him are a separate matter, but they are not upsetting things).
What matters to Megatron isn't what Rodimus says - except for those instances when he says something truly inspiring, something so awe-inducing and humbling and empowering that Megatron can't help but be impacted - but what Rodimus does.
One time, Rodimus lost his ship and most of his crew because he wouldn't betray Megatron.
One time, Rodimus reached out to him when he was about to give his life fighting Tarn and saved his life even when he didn't want to be saved.
There's a universe where Megatron dies with a Rodimus star in his servos. There's a universe where Rodimus smuggles him out of their own universe for wild adventures across many others.
Rodimus is so easy to love for someone like Megatron. It helps that Rodimus is a brat and Megatron is Into That (See: Orion Pax before he took on the responsibility of the matrix and the entirety of Starscream).
What I am getting at here is, while Drift and Ratchet would have to work hard to forgive Rodimus - and maybe not even fully forgive him - Megatron sees nothing that actually has to be forgiven.
Megatron says, "Do you even possess a brain module or is there only room for your inflated ego in your helm?"
And Rodimus says, "Talk about egos, pal, I'm not the one who thought Cybertronians were soooo superior that every organic in the galaxy had to die."
"Like recognizes like."
"Ex-squeeze me? Did you just compare my awesome stars to genocide?"
"Even I had to start somewhere."
"I think I'm a long ways off from planning a mass murder of a governing body and then conquering whole planets."
"I am not so sure. You were quite efficient against the Functionists."
"How dare you, that's not the same thing. At least I've never killed a boy by throwing them into a giant smelting chamber."
"Rodimus, you can burst into flames. You have absolutely burned a fair number of bots yourself."
Rodimus can't hurt Megatron the same way he can accidentally (sometimes on purpose when he's being self-destructive) hurt others.
It means he can relax and be himself. Even the not-so-good parts of himself. Even the nasty bits that made him use Rung as bait to catch a sparkeater. Even the nasty bits that once made Ratchet vote to remove him as the Lost Light's captain. Even the nasty bits that made him agree to take Overlord onto his ship. Even the nasty bits that made him let Drift take the blame for Overlord and exile him without a fair trial. Even when he left Ratchet behind on Luna 1 to Pharma's not so merciful tender mercies.
He has fragged up so, so bad. And that's all just since he got on the Lost Light.
It's comforting to be with someone who has messed up worse than he has. They're growing into better captains together.

A random ask if you're up for it: what's a terrible take about the Buffyverse you've seen on tumblr but have not yet publicly kvetched about?
I'll be honest: this question prompted a moment of minor panic on my part because my very first instinct was to say something like "hmm, no, I don't think I've ever seen a bad take about Buffy on here I've not immediately complained about". Which is an admission that, were it accurate, should probably prompt rather more introspection on my part than I'd enjoy.
Thinking about it though, I don't think that is really true. In fact, I probably don't say anything negative about most of the bad Buffy takes I see, either because they're not particularly widespread (I try not to publicly disagree with other people's headcanons or even argue against popular posts if it would be obvious who I was responding to) or because they're about characters who I just don't talk about on here at all (either because I don't find them interesting or because my understanding of them is so at odds with the wider fandom's we'd be talking at cross-purposes).
(Or, sometimes, I don't say anything negative because I'm too busy enthusiastically reblogging the post in question, if we're being brutally honest about what counts as a "bad take".)
One concrete example I don't think falls under those headings and which I don't remember complaining about before is the way people talk about Buffy's speech in Selfless. Now, I'll be honest: I don't really like Selfless that much. It's in the top half of Season 7 episodes for me, possibly even the top third, but that's a pretty low bar. But what I do like a lot are Buffy/Faith parallels, and this episode has a big one in Buffy's speech towards the end of the episode:
At some point someone has to draw the line and that is always going to be me. You get down at me for cutting myself off, but in the end the Slayer is always cut off. There's no mystical guidebook; no all-knowing council. Human rules don't apply. There's only me. I am the law.
Obviously this reminds the audience of Faith's similar speeches in Season 3's Consequences, when she tells Buffy that the two of them are "better" than ordinary humans and then later that "you know I'm right. You know in your gut we don't need the law. We are the law."
We obviously aren't meant to agree with Faith in Consequences. (The fact that she follows this speech up by almost immediately defecting to work for the Mayor, commiting at least one cold-blooded murder, having a sobbing emotional breakdown where she begs somebody to kill her and then turning herself in to be judged and punished by the very human laws she sneered at earlier is something of a clue.)
A lot of people point out the parallel but then try to explain that what Buffy is saying is actually substantially different from Faith, and that Buffy is right while Faith was wrong. in Myth, Metaphor and Morality Mark Field (who I don't think is actually on Tumblr, technically, but who I'm referencing to avoid talking directly about the many people on Tumblr who agree with him) ties this in to the wider themes of Season 7, and describes the difference between Buffy and Faith as being that Faith is trying to avoid responsibility (for accidentally killing Allan Finch) while Buffy is taking responsibility (for doing what has to be done and killing Anyanka).
And yes, Buffy is doing something different to Faith here. She is not trying to say that she doesn't have to be accountable. She is not making excuses for her own mistakes or bad behaviour. She is trying to do (what she perceives as being) the right thing.
But Buffy is wrong as well. She is proved wrong within this episode. She doesn't have to kill Anya: in fact, she fails to kill Anya (indeed, given what we see of vengeance demons in The WIsh and in Older and Far Away I don't believe Buffy could possibly have killed Anya, but I know that vengeance demon lore is even less rigorous than vampire soul lore). The problem of Anya being a vengeance demon is resolved, not by Buffy, but by the people she was giving her speech to. The people who she was arguing didn't have a say.
Buffy is wrong, too, within the show's established lore. There is a mystical guidebook (even if her Watcher didn't have her read it), and there is a Council (even if they're far from all-knowing, Buffy could have been making use of their resources ever since she asserted her importance to them in Checkpoint, but she chose not to do this). And Buffy isn't alone. (At least Faith got the number of Slayers right in her speech!)
And Buffy is also wrong in terms of the wider season arc. Season 7 is not about Buffy saving the day by heroically taking all the world's burdens on to herself and making all the decisions. Her attempts to beat the First this way end disastrously; cutting herself off from her friends and her family and the very the Potentials she's trying to protect.
(Yes, the climatic scene in Empty Places is poorly written, but the season does very deliberately have Buffy fail to establish any sort of rapport or connection with the Potentials and spend less and less time with her friends. Buffy isn't blameless for those relationships falling apart, even if having her friends and sister kick her out of her own house is absurd.)
Instead of being the lone voice of judgment, Buffy beats the First and saves the world by not isolating herself. By working with her friends; by realizing they can do things she can't; by sharing her power with the Potentials (because "my power should be our power"); by reconnecting with Faith; by accepting help from Angel and from Spike; and by realizing that the people who "made up the rules" for Slaying thousands of years ago made a mistake.
The whole point of Chosen is that it is a refutation of the vision of being a Slayer that Buffy outlines in this episode.
Quoting it uncritically as if it sums up who Buffy is as a person is like, well, using Andrew's speech about "the Dark Slayer" to describe Faith. (Which ... oh, yeah, people also do.)

Aw man. Today's the last day of @tristampparty and I am surprisingly sad about it. I'll be catching up the days I missed at some point, but I've chucked all that I've written, including today, into a google document and I apparently wrote 7.5k words over the course of episode 6 to today.
That's! A Lot!
I really wanna thank everyone who reblogged and gave me their additional thoughts/commentary, and special thanks to Revenantghost for organizing this whole thing! you do good work for this fandom i am giving u a gold star
With that, here we go into Episode 0 - High Noon at July. CWs for pregnancy discussion and a less detailed than last time but still present analysis of sexual assault and transphobia, marked with a [CW] Ofc, spoilers for Trimax and Tristamp
Cowboy kid Knives is something u can pry from my cold dead hands but it's also,,, I don't watch a lot of westerns, but the way Knives describes it seems like he likes the high action and justice. Which yea. yeah.
Tumblr media
A lot of ppl interpret Vash then saying that he doesn't like that sorta stuff as him having always had pacifistic tendencies but I don't really read it that way? I just see him being rather similar to Trimax Vash - chill kid with his own interests and hobbies and Knives being the very oversensitive kid so outshines him initially.
Regardless of version of Trigun (except 98. 98 didn't know shit about knives lmao), Vash and Knives have always started off wanting to coexist and be peaceful; it's just how they reacted to it later that differs. In this case, Knives wants to stand up for his friends and make a peaceful world through that, and Vash is more passive in that he just wants to have faith in humanity.
Not to mention they are kids. Young, idealistic kids. This is pre-Tesla, they don't know the extent of how horrible the world is. The loss of innocence and subsequent breakdowns relating to The Horrors is yet to come.
Tumblr media
[CW] Mmmmm they really don't make the pregnancy imagery subtle now do they dfgkjdfjk
I also think there's like - merit in also interpreting Knives as trans. Not Just because i think he's also very trans coded (A lot of his breakdowns and story arcs have reflections in how some trans men overcompensate masculinity in a Bad Way. That's a very small subsection of trans guys btw but I am speaking from experience. I got better tho). Anyway it makes the fact that Knives is disregarding Vash's bodily autonomy very much Worse if you take the male plants are trans analogy into it.
He's so far gone that he's willing to do to Vash what would be the worst thing to be done to him; Violating his body to rebuild and make him a perfect independent ("remind him of biological reality"), physically overpowering him ("taking the aggressor, commonly masculine role in sexual assault") to do what he wants. Disregarding the wants and needs of the Plants ("women +fem-presenting ppl that he originally set out to protect because he knew their experience and wanted to help and still has that trauma from witnessing that trauma")
Ofc that's just a reading of the scene, but I quite like it as a trans guy because that makes a really good villain with trans themes/motifs! I hate him so much (affectionate)
Tumblr media
No, no she doesn't. Meryl is making a choice and she's gonna damn well stick to it! She's been given agency and she's gonna spend it in the most eldritch horrific scene that someone on that planet could spend it lmao. Well, no Knives takes most eldritch and horrific. Meryl's second tho
Tumblr media
Okay this fucking scene drives me INSANE. This is a memory, clearly, but it's one that's being tampered with. Vash asks Knives if they can get along with humans, and then Knives immediately messes with the memory to make sure that he says that he'll protect Vash no matter what. But that is very clearly not what was originally said, so... What did he say? What was present day Knives so desperate to cut off?
I've talked about the narrative being biased against Knives a lot, but something I haven't talked about is that Knives kinda tries to contribute to that narrative a lot. He wants to seem like he never cared about humans, he wants to seem like he always planned this and was going for justice ever since he was a kid. He tells Vash the Tesla incident was just a small grain of sand, he uses Luida to tell everyone he wants to kill Rem, he's unbearably cruel to Vash to make his point. The only difference is that he wants to be right.
So he doesn't let us see what the kid version of him says, because that would contradict the narrative he's built for himself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I really wanna give props to Studio Orange here for both the design and way they modelled the wing here, that's a really difficult task when the guy you're putting a wing on has a tight as hell bodysuit. But the anatomy holds up surprisingly well!
Also many people have pointed out that the plant mech looks a lot like Rem, and Knives staring into the face of a Plantish representation of his mother that is created and controlled subconsciously by his brother and saying he was rejected is. It sure is a scene!
Tumblr media
ONCE AGAIN. INCREDIBLE EFFECTS. I also would like to once again point out the angelic motifs of Knives' design here.
Tumblr media
Also Vash saying this is SO important because Meryl!!! is so important!!! I see a lot of people brush Meryl's space in the story off and it Enrages me because Meryl is one of the most important people to Vash. Aside from our frontline yaoi soldier Nicholas D. Wolfwood, Meryl has one of the most tangible impacts on Vash's character.
When Vash is in his breakdown in Trimax, Meryl is the one to kneel at his side and believe in him; When Vash is having his god awful horrible mindscape time in Tristamp, Meryl does the same. When Meryl is kidnapped in Trimax, Vash instantly jumps out of a window in the chance of getting her back. Vash trusted her enough to fire the ion cannon in the sand steamer episode. He immediately went to July the moment she and Roberto were kidnapped.
Meryl has so much faith in Vash and she's insane for that, but Vash recognizes her and that faith pays off in giving him the strength to carry on. He heard her voice, too :]
Tumblr media
Also oh to be floating slowly down to the floor while you're a meter away from a cube with the power of an atom bomb while someone named Millions Knives is summoning millions of knives in front of u. Meryl has guts, man.
Tumblr media
And now that Vash has gotten his gun back, he's back to using it as a tonfa! (check I think my analysis of episode 7 for more on that). Watching for the swing blocks, the forearm guard, and thwacking the knife tendrils out of the way
Tumblr media
This fight scene has soooo much love and care and detail in it I love it so much actually. From seeing Vash's bullets to all the expressions and beautifully detailed firing, there's so much detail in a quick space that you really have to slow it down to see everything.
Tumblr media
Seriously how strong is Knives to be able to have a feasible chance again Vash's prosthetic - and Vash matches him! Also the chomp
Tumblr media
Now something that I have the shakiest of theories on is that after summoning The Cube, Vash starts moving in a far more controlled manner, he stands still when reloading, he has his movement flurries and then stands still to aim. Which uh. Studio Orange works in 3d, but those are 2d animation techniques. He's moving like 98 Vash.
There's a lot I admire about Studio Orange's use of 3d (I am a mid-tier 2d artist lmao) but I love love love that they're able to get all these really nice, creative camera shots that would be impractical in 2d (all those overhead shots, for example, have a chance of turning about bad/looking weird in 2d, and puts more strain on animators, but 3d you have the models from every angle already. 3d isn't easier by any means, but it does have its strengths)
Tumblr media
Also. how Did Wolfwood get over here, dare I ask. mans climbed a tower in just a few minutes what is Wrong with him
Tumblr media
Also a nice detail, Vash usually has perfect trigger discipline, but he falters here against Knives, probably because he's been already shooting, but hey, he's stressed. I'll give him a break.
Tumblr media
I also appreciate exactly how superhuman Wolfwood is now. Tristamp Wolfwood is on a different level. Like 98 Wolfwood is just some (attractive) guy, Trimax Wolfwood has a lot of gory body horror going on and a subtle kind of endurance/strength, but Tristamp Wolfwood just jumped off a very tall building holding a grown woman and the Punisher and was fine.
Oh hey, same symbol on the tower as was on the sandsteamer and on Vash's wanted poster - symbol of July, probably
Tumblr media
Very horribly, Knives probably did just save Vash's life here. But also the rest of July's life (though ofc he just extended the timer)....
Tumblr media
I'm not quite sure When Vash started using plant bullets, but he's definitely using them now. Also the nails on his prosthetic are a nice touch!
Tumblr media
THE FLYING SAUCER STRIKES AGAIN. I wonder if that's gonna be the basis of the Ark, if that's the route season 2 goes.
I also. Was that allI the Plants collected that escaped in this, or were there a bunch still running in July that get obliterated too? Did Knives inadvertently cause the death of more plants? I mean, when Knives gets revived in Trimax he definitely causes the death of at least 2 plants (there are a couple of bulbs in the background of the blast radius, plus the one that was used to revive him... she uh. Didn't look like she was doing so hot)
Tumblr media
Vash's little speech is always so,,, intense. He has such a strong sense of character and it's admirable how well he sticks to his morals despite it all.
On a more body horror note, Knives can survive a long fucking time trying to grab The Cube. In Trimax he gets hit with the angel arm and practically disemboweled instantly, but Tristamp Knives can take over a minute of just like. being right in the direct path of fire. They're really gonna have to work to reconstruct him. Good luck, Legato!
Tumblr media
UFO SPOTTED !!! LEAVING JULY AS IT IS DESTROYED !! NOT CLICKBAIT !!!
Tumblr media
^ I made that long ago and needed to use it somewhere dfgkjdfg
[RAUCOUS CHEERING]
Tumblr media
And ofc I have to bring up Eriks :] I don't actually have too much to say abt him. Studio Orange strip this man and make him bark like a dog next season or we will riot
Tumblr media
CHRONICA MENTION!!!!! YAYYYYYY
Tumblr media
And that's kinda. It.
Man I have had such fun over the last 12 days, I've really discovered a love for analyzing and theories and putting that out there and chatting with people about Trigun :] I should do this more often lmao but I do want to get back to drawing. I'll find a balance, then!
Thank you all for coming, and Wow if you made it this far I must be doing something right lmao.
