Star Wars Legends, Mara Jade

OMG, Mara Jade. I will admit something NOW. Young!Asp? LOATHED HER. Not, mind you, for anything so banal as her interfering in Luke's life. After all, I didn't even really like Luke nearly as much as I was "supposed" to, as the main character. No. I just found her flat, colorless, and disappointing when I had THRAWN over there making me so curious.

The last time I re-read the original Thrawn trilogy, I decided that… I don't think I was all that wrong. But now, with the help of the interquels Zahn wrote that featured her, as well as the Dark Horse comics, I found I was more able to paint the shades and textures over her portrayal a lot more adeptly.

So. Mara Jade is Force Sensitive, trained by a Sith at first, mind-boggled into a shitty situation that actually works out in a stellar fashion, and sharp. That sharpness, both of personality and with, makes her an adept fit for the Organa-Skywalker-Calrissian extended family. (Don't @ me; Lando totally is part of the family.)

I cannot with the later parts of Legends canon. I just… my heart breaks enough over Chewie and Anakin in the part leading up to the end. The idea of everything Mara goes through, and then her son, her niblings, everyone, honestly? NO. Like, I break from Legends canon as the NJO starts and refuse.

I love the art modeled on Famke Janssen for her icon that I use on DW. I loved a lot of her art in the Dark Horse comics. I would totally love to see her recast as not-white if she is ever brought into canon as it stands now.
